What You Have to Know About Paloh, Johor

Though Paloh is just a small town in Kluang District, Johor, Malaysia, it still has something to brag about when it comes to food for it has many authentic cuisines. Paloh’s old town is a home of various authentic dishes even before the early times up until now, it is still a place where people tend to pig out.

Paloh History

Located 35 kilometers away from Kluang and about 32 kilometers from Yong Peng, Paloh town is a balanced population of Chinese, Malays and Indians. During the old times, this place is just a low-lying swamp water, hence the name “Paya”, while “Paloh” is a transliteration from accordingly. As early as 1916, Huang Ren Wang, led the villagers in dredging the fill and started to develop the place. Due to help and participation of the villagers, there were 29 houses built in the town during that year.

Succulent Curry Noodles

One of the most wonderful and notably good food that you can eat in Paloh is their delicious curry noodles. Who wouldn’t be tempted with the thick curry sauce, sweet coconut milk, plus the secret ingredients added. Not to mention that this one is spicy enough to fired up your mouth. To ease the hotness, it is best to match this dish with a raw coconut milk and red bean ice. Truly awesome!

Tempting Siopao and dumplings

Try to fight temptation with this very soft dough coupled with sweet and juicy meat and gravy – siopao. Aside from this, there’s also a pork and fish dumplings made with ginseng that will really burst in your mouth. Don’t miss to try this delish food in Paloh to make your visit memorable and worth remembering.

Aromatic Coffee @ Ling Nam

One of the most famous old coffee shop in Paloh is Ling Nam Coffee Shop. So, if you are a fan, try to hop into this shop and have a cup of their aromatic cup of coffee. Partner it with delightful and crunchy toast or is you like, try out half-cooked egg with a cup of traditional flavour of coffee. Surely, this will really awake your sleeping mind and soul.

Dried Chili Wonton Noodles

Noodles? Paloh also has your favourite authentic “dried chili wonton noodles”. Getting confused with the term? Lemme clear this up. Dried chili wonton noodles is not a wonton noodle that literally has dried chili on it, rather, the wonton shop owner Lau Pa Sat nickname is “dried chili”, hence the name. Kinda interesting, right? This sumptuous noodles is really worth trying for.

Wong Restaurant has something to brag about here in Paloh – presenting their rice wine noodle, which has a little sour taste and is mixed with other delightful ingredients.

For a long time, there was only one food street in Ipoh after sundown. Now, tourists have another food street to explore in the evening. Except this one only opens on the weekends.

About Paloh Street Food Paradise

Paloh Street Food Paradise is demarcated by a Chinese style archway ( Paloh Gate ) on Jalan Theatre. It is next to the Octagon apartments in Ipoh New Town.

The opening of Paloh Street Food Paradise coincides with the mid-autumn festival in Ipoh.

And the official initiation was on 23 September, 2023 together with a traditional cultural performance. Which was a main highlight of the mid-autumn celebration by the Perak Chinese Chamber Of Commerce And Industry (PCCCI), Ipoh City Council, and Wisma Octagon.

VIPs who attended the celebration included Minister of Local Government Development, YB Nga Kor Ming and Datuk Bandar Ipoh, YBhg. Dato’ Hj. Rumaizi Bin Baharin.

Opening Hours For Paloh Street Food Paradise

Stalls will be in operation at Paloh Street Food Paradise from between 6pm to 11pm on every Saturday and Sunday.

Parking At Paloh Street Food Paradise

New parking lots are available around the Octagon apartments. And if you can’t find street parking along Jalan Theatre, you may have to circle around for a while.

Parking is still relatively easy to find before 8pm on a Sunday night for example.

Ambiance At Paloh Street Food Paradise

Apart from the covered walkways surrounding the Octagon apartments, Paloh Street Food Paradise does not have any roof over it.

In the daytime, this road is open to cars but closes on weekends for the food street.

For now, the food street is very short. It is much shorter than Kimberly Street or Chulia Street in Penang.

If you’re not planning to try each stall, it will take very little time to explore this food street. Passing through the street does not even take 5 minutes.

That said, the street is long enough to accommodate more stalls in the future if necessary.

Food At Paloh Street Food Paradise

We only saw Chinese vendors for the market stalls .

Hence the crowds consist mainly of Chinese families looking for an after-dinner treat.

None of the stalls sell main dishes. Most of them sell cute street snacks . There is also a cart for roasted chestnuts . And a van from BluezChic selling fried ice cream .

Other stalls sell drinks like lime tea. While others have Nyonya kuih, fried snacks (e.g., Takoyaki), Taiwanese street snacks, and tiramisu of varying flavors.

In the middle of the stalls, are plastic tables and chairs for customers.

Paloh Street Food Paradise is not much for now. But it offers something to do in the evening where Ipoh is generally lacking in nightlife activities .

Plus, it’s a family-friendly venue with ample parking.

If you are looking for more supper or nighttime hangouts in Ipoh, we recommend the Palo 101 or Soho Ipoh. These vibrant areas have many eateries and dessert shops to check out.

For dinner options, Buntong Beef Noodles is within walking distance from Paloh Street Food Paradise.

Jakarta, IDN Times - Partai NasDem menyatakan akan mendukung pemerintahan baru yang dipimpin oleh presiden dan wakil presiden terpilih periode 2024-2029, Prabowo Subianto - Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

Ketua Umum NasDem, Surya Paloh , menegaskan partainya siap bergabung ke dalam pemerintahan Prabowo-Gibran.

Hal tersebut disampaikan Surya Paloh usai menggelar pertemuan di rumah presiden terpilih, Prabowo Subianto di Jalan Kertanegara IV, Kebayoran Baru, Jakarta Selatan, Kamis (25/4/2024) sore.

"Saya katakan NasDem hari ini menyatakan kembali menegaskan, mendukung pemerintahan baru di bawah kepemimpinan Bapak Prabowo Subianto dan Mas Gibran," kata Surya Paloh.

Surya Paloh menilai, Indonesia sebagai negara besar harus tetap mampu menjaga proses perjalanan kehidupan kebangsaan sebagaimana yang diamanahkan oleh para pendiri bangsa.

Menurutnya, Indonesia merupakan negara dengan potensi sumber daya alam yang sangat besar. Sementara kondisi dunia saat ini dipenuhi dengan ketidakpastian. Sehingga seluruh elemen bangsa Indonesia harus melakukan rekonsiliasi sebagai wujud semangat persatuan menghadapi tantangan global.

"Memang ada opsi karena dasar bukan saya yang meminta, tapi kesempatan, dorongan, keinginan, spirit mengajak, untuk bersama dengan pemerintahan saya pikir itu lebih baik. Itu lah pilihan saya, pilihan NasDem. Beroposisi bisa setiap saat, tapi bekerja membantu pemerintahan itu dibutuhkan juga suatu semangat, suatu spirit, dan keikhlasan hati yang mengedepankan objektivitas yang tetap menjaga nalar dan daya kritis," imbuhnya.

Berdasarkan verifikasi Kompas.com sejauh ini, ada yang perlu diluruskan terkait informasi ini.

KOMPAS.com  - Beredar video pertemuan Ketua Umum PDI-P Megawati Soekarnoputri, Ketua Umum PKB Muhaimin Iskandar, dan Ketua Umum Nasdem Surya Paloh.

Narasi yang disertakan, seolah-olah pertemuan terjadi setelah Pemilihan Presiden (Pilpres) 2024 dan mereka sepakat untuk bersatu.

Namun, setelah ditelusuri, narasi itu tidak sesuai dengan konteks video sebenarnya.

Adapun pada Pilpres 2024, PDI-P mengusung pasangan calon presiden-wakil presiden nomor urut 3, Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD.

Sementara, PKB dan Nasdem mengusung pasangan nomor urut 1, Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar.

Dalam video, tiga pemimpin partai politik itu bertemu, kemudian menggelar konferensi pers.

Berdasarkan penelusuran Tim Cek Fakta Kompas.com, video tersebut identik dengan konten di kanal YouTube  BeritaSatu ini  yang diunggah pada 14 Mei 2014.

Berdasarkan keterangan video, PDI-P, PKB, dan Nasdem mendeklarasikan koalisi untuk mengusung Joko Widodo sebagai capres pada Pilpres 2014.

Deklarasi dilakukan di kantor DPP PDI-P, Lenteng Agung, Jakarta Selatan pada 14 Mei 2014. Sehingga, dapat dipastikan video yang beredar dibagikan dengan konteks keliru.

Sampai saat ini tidak ditemukan informasi valid soal Megawati, Muhaimin dan Surya Paloh bertemu setelah Pilpres 2024.
