Hey there! Your post about the best places to visit in South India during the monsoon is fantastic! I loved the diverse destinations you covered and the vivid descriptions of each place. It’s inspiring me to plan a trip right away. Great job!

I loved reading your piece. Sundeep and I had compiled an article on monsoon must-visits in North India. We love travelling in monsoon since the rains so transform a place. Thankfully I have visited some of these places and can imagine Jog and Athirapally Falls look divine in monsoon. Curious to know if the roads of South India are safe to drive in the monsoon.

That’s quite a comprehensive list of places to see in South India. I have only been to two–Chikmagalur and Pondicherry. I have had Lakshwadeep on my list for long, but now the bucket list grows bigger. I would love to explore these green parts of South India.

My personal take during monsoons is to chill at home. I’d rather not take any travel risk during monsoons. I prefer to stay in the comfort of my home, watch movies, read books and savor a hot cup of coffee!

You have listed all of my favourite places! Kanyakumari has been on my list for really long. And Coorg and Coonoor are my favs from my South India trip!

I have not been to South India yet. I’m going to bookmark this blog whenever I would be travelling there. Thanks for sharing.

Great . Love the details that you have mentioned. There are so many options and it’s so wonderful to choose from the variety of options. It would so fun to explore places even during monsoon.

So many places you have mentioned to visit during monsoon in south India. Wow! Incredible. I have never been to South, so would love to visit someday.

This guide is a monsoon wanderer’s dream! Discover breathtaking destinations and embrace the magic of South India’s rainy season. 🌧️🌴🌊🗺️

Great of you to share these incredible places. I personally love traveling but never thought of India as a place to visit before seeing a lot of these travel blogs from Indian friends online. I guess, I’m like most of the typical people who’d love to see the west side of the world(USA), or Europe (which I feel so blessed to visit in 2022), and the land down under (AU and NZ) which is still on my bucket list. Your post made me think otherwise of my list of places to visit and have surely added India on it=)

I didn’t know there were so many places in south I only knew Kodaikanal and Alleppey This is amazing will definitely bookmark this

Top Getaway places from Hyderabad in Monsoon

The following is a list of the greatest hill station close to Hyderabad that will be available during the monsoon. You will be able to take a break from the hectic pace of metropolitan life and experience a revitalizing vacation by visiting one of these hill locations. Take a peek.

Visitors can participate in a wide variety of activities throughout the year in Hyderabad, which is known as the "City of Nizams." But now that summer has reached its pinnacle, that great fireball is not sparing us its wrath. It is the perfect time to pack up and leave the madness of the city behind to get some peace and get away from the sweltering heat. And what could be more enjoyable than a trip to the mountains on one of the upcoming weekends? Spend a weekend traveling to some of these breathtaking hill stations located close to Hyderabad.

Are you seeking well-known mountain resorts in the area around Hyderabad? After experiencing the splendour of the city, you will undoubtedly be ready to unwind on a holiday in the hills.

Srisailam is a holy site that is considered to be one of the most significant pilgrimage destinations in all of India. It can be found in the Kurnool district of the state of Andhra Pradesh. This is not only one of the most well-known destinations for religious tourism in the area surrounding Hyderabad, but it is also regarded as one of the top monsoon weekend trips from the city.

The Srisailam Dam and the Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Temple, both of which are dedicated to Lord Shiva, have brought the town of Srisailam a great deal of notoriety. The combination of a Jyothirlingam & Mahasakthi in one site is a very unusual occurrence and this kshetram is the only one of its kind to have this attribute.

Temples and beautiful natural settings may be found in abundance around Srisailam. The Srisailam Dam, which was constructed over the Krishna River, is considered to be among the largest dams in Southern India. Other places of interest in Srisailam include the Mallikarjuna Temple, Bhramaramba Devi Temple Shikaresvara Temple, Sakshi Ganapathi Temple, Akka Mahadevi Caves, Pathala Ganga, and Mallela Theertham.

A picturesque waterfall known as Mallela Theertham may be found deep within the Nallamala forest. This is one of the most well-known tourist destinations in Srisailam, and it is also among the most well-liked weekend escapes and two-day excursions from Hyderabad.

When the reservoir gates are opened during the monsoon season (around August or September), Srisailam is at its absolute peak.

Kuntala Falls can be centre in the centre of the Sahyadri mountainous region in the Telangana state's Adilabad district, close to the Neredikonda village. With a drop of 60 meters (200 feet), Kuntala Falls is not only one of the best monsoon vacation spots around Hyderabad, but it also has the title of being the highest waterfall in Telangana.

In addition, it is one of the most well-known waterfalls in the area close to Hyderabad. Kuntala Falls is a two-tiered waterfall that is formed by the Kadam River and is situated at the base of a rocky plateau.

The amount of water that is allowed to flow over these falls is determined by how much water is let out of the Kadam Reservoir. The Kuntala Waterfalls are a potentially hazardous location because of the unpredictability of the water, which is especially prevalent during the wet season.

Visits to Kuntala Falls are most enjoyable during the monsoon and post-monsoon periods. There are a number of significant locations located in close proximity to Kuntala Falls, including Pochara Falls, Gayathri Waterfalls, and Kanakai Waterfalls. It is both a well-known destination for a day trip and a convenient weekend escape from the city of Hyderabad. Whenever the water flow is strong, it is risky to enter the water at the bottom because there are sharp rocks and twists in the riverbed.

Another significant tourist destination that may be found between Hyderabad and Kuntala Falls is the Sriram Sagar Dam. It is one of the most extensive irrigation projects that Telangana has ever undertaken. The irrigation needs of the districts of Karimnagar, Warangal, Adilabad, Nalgonda, and Khammam are met by Sriram Sagar, which was constructed on the Godavari River. When the gates are open during the monsoon season, this location welcomes a significant increase in the number of visitors.

One of the most important Buddhist places in India is called Nagarjuna Sagar, and it is located on the border between the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. One of the top tourist attractions during the monsoon season in the vicinity of Hyderabad is Nagarjuna Sagar. The Nagarjuna Sagar Dam, which is located there, is widely recognized as one of the largest dams in India.

It is also the location of tremendous archaeological value, and excavations have shown that throughout the third century AD, this location served as a hub for the dissemination of Buddhist doctrines throughout South India. This location was the starting point for the development of an early river valley civilization.

The Nagarjuna Sagar Dam, the Nagarjuna Konda, the Ethipothala Falls, and Anupu are the most well-known places to visit in the Nagarjuna Sagar area. The Nagarjuna Sagar Dam, which was constructed on the River Krishna between both the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, was finished in the year 1966 AD. It measures approximately 1,450 meters in length and 124 meters in height, and it contains 26 crest gates.

The dam has produced the third largest artificial lake in the entire globe in the form of a lake. To get to Nagarjuna Konda, the location of the ancient Buddhist excavations, which is placed in the centre of the waters of Nagarjuna Sagar, one needs to take a boat. The Ethipothala waterfalls are some of the most beautiful waterfalls on the Chandravanka River (a tributary of River Krishna).

North-eastern Karnataka is home to the town and administrative centre of the Bidar district, which bears the same name. Bidar is not only one of the most well-known heritage sites in the region surrounding Hyderabad, but it is also regarded as among the most enjoyable destinations in all of Karnataka.

On the Deccan plateau, at an elevation of 700 meters (about 2,200 feet), it looks out over the Manjira river valley. Bidar is one of the most important historical sites in Karnataka, and it carries with it a significant amount of historical weight. Bidar is famous for the one-of-a-kind handicrafts that are made by the Bidri people.

The castles and monuments of Bidar look particularly fresh and green during the monsoon season, making it one of the most magnificent destinations to visit in the region of Hyderabad during this time of year.

Bidar is home to a number of historical landmarks, some of which date back to the 15th century. These structures are a testament to the greatness of the Bahamian rulers who built them. The Bidar Fort, which was constructed by Ahmad Shah in the year 1430 CE, is the most popular destination for vacationers.

The Rangin Mahal, the Solah Kambh Masjid, the Gagan Mahal, the Diwan-e-Am, the Royal Pavilion, and the Tarkash Mahal are some of the other significant buildings that can be found inside the fort.

Other attractions in Bidar include the tombs of the Bahamani rulers, the tombs of the Barid Shahis, the madrassa of Mahmud Gawan, the Chaubara, and the Gurudwara Nanak Jhira Sahib. Other prominent tourist destinations in the area include Basavakalyan Fort, Humnabad, and the Narasimha Jhira Temple.

One of the most picturesque spots along the route to Bidar is the Singur Dam, which was built across the Manjeera River. The city of Hyderabad receives its potable water supply from the dam.

Eturnagaram is a wildlife sanctuary that was established in 1952 and is considered to be one of the earliest sanctuaries in South India. The protected area may be found in the Warangal district, which is close to the state lines of Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Maharashtra. Within the confines of Eturnagaram's woods can be found the illustrious Sammakka-Sarakka Temple.

The Eturnagaram Sanctuary is divided into two halves by a body of water known as Dayyam Vagu. Together, these two sections cover an area that is 806 square kilometres in size. The Tiger, the Leopard, the Panther, the Wolf, the Wild Dogs, the Black Buck, the Gaur, and the Giant Squirrels all find refuge in this sanctuary.

During the height of the monsoon season, it is a true pleasure to behold the wide and placid Godavari River that runs through Eturnagaram, which is surrounded by dense forests. Bogatha Waterfalls, sometimes referred to as Chikupally Falls, is a beautiful waterfall that can be found in close proximity to Eturnagaram. Other places of interest in the area that you shouldn't miss include Ramappa Temple & Laknavaram Lake.

The Kakatiya rulers constructed Laknavaram Lake in the 13th century, making it the largest lake in the Warangal area. One of the most notable features is the suspension bridge that stretches across the lake. This location is most enjoyable to explore during the rainy season when the surrounding hills are carpeted in lush foliage and the lake is at its fullest.

In the Telangana region of India's state of Telangana, the town of Bhadrachalam serves as a religious destination and can be found in the Khammam district. It is famed for the well-known Sri Rama Temple, which was constructed in the 17th century AD by a devotee named Kancherla Gopanna, who is more well known as Bhakta Ramadasu.

During the monsoon season, pilgrims from all across the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh make their way to this sacred town to take in the breathtaking scenery along the Godavari River. This is a well-known destination for religious tourists in the state of Telangana.

The prominent tourist attractions in the town of Bhadrachalam are the Parnasala Temple, the Kinnerasani Dam, and the Wildlife Sanctuary. Activities such as sailing, hiking, and excursions to Papikondalu are available for visitors to choose from. The Kinnerasani Dam was built in 1966 on the Kinnerasani River, which is one of the major tributaries that feed into the Godavari River.

The dam can be found inside the Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary. The dam is located in a stunning area that is characterized by natural scenery and abundant vegetation all around it. The Kinnerasani Sanctuary encompasses a total land area of 635.4 square kilometres and is home to the scenic Kinnerasani Lake as well as numerous islands that are covered in thick vegetation.

Alampur is located in the Mahabubnagar district of Telangana. It is situated on the banks of the Tungabhadra River. It is also known for the Jogulamba Temple, also known as the Shakti Peetha, as well as the Navabrahma Temples and the Sangameswara Temple, all of which were constructed in the 7th century AD. Alampur is of significant religious and historical significance due to its location close to the meeting point of the great rivers Krishna and Tungabhadra.

Alampur is widely regarded as one of the best spots to go sightseeing in the general vicinity of Hyderabad due to the presence of numerous historic and holy temples as well as the massive Tungabhadra River. The Jogulamba Temple is one of the 18 Maha Shakti Peethas dedicated to the goddess Shakti. The temple is very old.

On the banks of the River Tungabhadra have located the Navabrahma Temples, which have been given the names Bala Brahma, Taraka Brahma, Swarga Brahma, Padma Brahma, Garuda Brahma, Kumara Brahma, Arka Brahma, Vira Brahma, and Vishwa Brahma. These temples are located in close proximity to one another. The Bala Brahma Temple is the largest of these, and it is also the only one that is still in use.

About two kilometres separate the site of the Navabrahma temples from the Sangameswara Temple. The most well-liked thing to do is take a canoe trip down the Tungabhadra River. In the surrounding area, you'll also find notable sites such as Kurnool, Orvakal Rock Garden, Mantralayam, and Rollapadu Wildlife Sanctuary. It was in 1995 that the Jurala Dam was completed on the River Krishna. It is a fascinating location that is located on the road to Alampur, and both locations can be seen together.

For those who want a break from the hustling city choose the best way instead of sitting with tea at home by coming out of the comfort zone during this monsoon season which will be very lovely, everything has a more verdant appearance than usual in Hyderabad.

Budget Hotels > Travel Blog > Destinations > Hyderabad > Best Time To Visit Hyderabad: Weather with Activities List

Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana, stands on the banks of River Musi in the northern part of the Deccan Plateau. The city has a tropical wet and dry climate and is warm almost all year long, except for the chilly winter season. That is why October to February is regarded as the best time to visit Hyderabad. But that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a trip to the city in any other season. You can visit the land of Nizams in summers and monsoons too provided that you limit sightseeing and add season-appropriate attractions in your itinerary.

Want to find more about the best season to visit Hyderabad apart from winters? Here’s a blog that tells you everything you should know before you plan a trip and book your hotels in Hyderabad .

Hyderabad in Summers (March to June)

Summers are harsh, hot, and humid in Hyderabad. The season starts in March when temperatures start to soar after the wintry days. By May, the season comes to its peak, making it the hottest month of the year. This season continues till June and sometimes extends to July as well, after which the monsoons arrive to bring relief to the scorched city. While the summer days are rather uncomfortable, the nights tend to be more pleasant. The rising mercury levels and humidity make it very challenging to go for outdoor activities. So, summer isn’t the best time to visit Hyderabad for typical touristy purposes.

  • Maximum Temperature: 35 to 40 degrees Celsius
  • Minimum Temperature: 21 to 27 degrees Celsius

From toi print edition, monsoon still matters: 2024 promises good rains. but indian agri is pushing its luck with current water usage practices.

TOI Edit

Times of India’s Edit Page team comprises senior journalists with wide-ranging interests who debate and opine on the news and issues of the day.

MD’s first southwest monsoon forecast on Monday said that in 2024 we are in for an above normal rainfall. It’s expected to be 106% of the long period average of 87 cm. It’s positive for the kharif crop season, which was affected last year by a below normal monsoon that was also erratic in terms of monthly rainfall.

Monsoon-output link weakens  | India’s agricultural output is no longer as closely tied to annual rainfall, thanks to widespread irrigation. For example, take a look at water guzzling rice. Data since 2000 shows that it’s only in 2002 and 2009 that output dropped sharply because of a large rainfall deficiency. Leave aside those two shocks, output has generally trended upwards even though below normal monsoon years have sometimes led to a modest decline in production.

places to visit in hyderabad during monsoon

Groundwater’s the reason  | The reason for this resilience is largely the surge in groundwater extraction through tube wells for irrigation. Irrigation through tube wells accounts for over 60% of total irrigation.

Rainfall still matters  | But even as tube well irrigation may have partially insulated crop output from annual swings in rainfall, the southwest monsoon’s influence over agriculture hasn’t weakened if we look at it from a longer-term perspective. This is because groundwater extraction for irrigation is sustainable only if it’s adequately recharged. And about 75% of annual recharge takes place during the southwest monsoon.

Recharge’s the challenge  | At the national level, India appears to be using its groundwater sustainably. Only 59% of the annual extractable groundwater is drawn. However, this national average masks worrisome regional variations.

Punjab and Haryana are critical to India’s overall food security. In these states, groundwater extraction is way past the point of sustainability. Punjab’s ratio of annual groundwater extraction to total annual extractable groundwater in 2022 was 164.15%. Haryana’s ratio is around 136%. While UP’s ratio is 71%, agriculturally important western UP is hurtling towards unsustainability.

Reminder of unfinished business  | IMD’s 2024 monsoon forecast is positive for recharge of groundwater. But it’s also a reminder that India’s agriculture is pushing its luck on climate change. Regional variations in rainfall and groundwater extraction matter greatly for crop output. The story so far is that some of the most productive agri regions in terms of yield have insulated themselves from annual rainfall variations but not their dependence on the monsoon.
