Kuntala Falls is an enchanting waterfall situated in the middle of the Sahyadri mountain range near Neredikonda village in Adilabad district of Telangana. Bhongir Fort is located in Bhongir town in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district nearly 100 kms away from Hyderabad. It can be easily reached by road through NH163 – Hyderabad – Warangal highway. It will almost take more than 45 minutes to reach the highest point. The climb to the top of the fort is little difficult as the steps are a little steep. Eturnagaram is a wildlife sanctuary that was established in 1952 and is considered to be one of the earliest sanctuaries in South India. The protected area may be found in the Warangal district, which is close to the state lines of Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Maharashtra. Within the confines of Eturnagaram's woods can be found the illustrious Sammakka-Sarakka Temple.

In the Telangana region of India's state of Telangana, the town of Bhadrachalam serves as a religious destination and can be found in the Khammam district. It is famed for the well-known Sri Rama Temple, which was constructed in the 17th century AD by a devotee named Kancherla Gopanna, who is more well known as Bhakta Ramadasu.

During the monsoon season, pilgrims from all across the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh make their way to this sacred town to take in the breathtaking scenery along the Godavari River. This is a well-known destination for religious tourists in the state of Telangana.

It is also known for the Jogulamba Temple, also known as the Shakti Peetha, as well as the Navabrahma Temples and the Sangameswara Temple, all of which were constructed in the 7th century AD. How to Reach: From Hyderabad, the tourist can take the NH65 towards Narketpally. After reaching Narketpally, they can then head right which is the route that takes the tourists towards Nalgonda. There is another option for tourists from Hyderabad as they can take the Sagar Road towards Nalgonda from Hyderabad.

This region is known for Buddhist sites, ruins of sprawling forts of the past and also for its ancient temples.

The attractions and places to visit in the area include Panagal Chaya Someswara Swamy Temple and the Panagal Tank. The people visiting this area can also visit the famous Pachala Someswara Swamy Museum near the temple in this area.

Some of the attractions nearby for tourists include Devarakonda Fort and Rachakonda Fort. The Phanigiri and Gajulabanda Buddhist sites in the region are also worth visiting for tourists and people visiting this area from Hyderabad.

8. Sri Rama Chandra Temple

Distance from Hyderabad: 30 km from Hyderabad.

Best time to visit: Winter season between September to April for the pleasant beauty.

How to reach: From Hyderabad city, you have to take the right turn at the junction of Shamshabad Begumpet. Then keep driving for 5 km.

Timing: 7:00 AM – 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM

The Shri Rama Chandra temple is situated in a small village named Ammapalli. This temple is considered among the most ancient ones and the temple’s scenario is usually shown in many of the Bollywood movies.

This temple was built during the Kalyani Chalukyas times and as estimated it is 800-900 years old. Since then, there’s no damage to this temple. This temple was dedicated to Rama (seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu).

If you have taken the ORR, then take the airport exit and drive towards the town of Shamshabad. Then keep left at the junction of the bus stop.  The destination would be on the left of the main road.

9. Wagal Saraswati Temple

Distance from Hyderabad: 52 km from Hyderabad.

Best time to visit: The majority of people prefer to visit this temple on the Vasantha Panchami that in January or February. Navarati festival is celebrated in a very grand manner.

How to reach: It takes approx. 1 hour via taxi from the Feth Nagar. Moreover, if you prefer to drive by yourself then it would take approx. 54 minutes.

This temple is situated in the village Wargal on the hillock in the Medak district of Telangana. This temple dedicated to goddess Saraswati is one of the most famous temples that came after Barasa.

Wagal Saraswati temple is very well known for the Aksharaabyasa for the children. This temple is also known as Sri Vidya Saraswati temple. Aksharaabyasa is considered an important tradition before the child starts the school days. It is built by Shri Yamavaran Chandrashekhara Sharma.

10. Singur Dam

Distance from Hyderabad: 92 km from Hyderabad.

Best time to visit: The best time visit is October and February to see the beautiful migrated birds. The bird lover would enjoy it a lot.

How to reach: There are four ways to get to Singur Dam that is via taxi, train, taxi, or train from Chandanagar and to drive by yourself. The time to reach there is approx. 1 and a half hours including all the means mentioned above. 

Singur Dam is located near Sangareddy town in the district of Medak in Telangana.  This is known to be the tourist point near Hyderabad. It is constructed on the river Manjeera. The drinking water supplies of Hyderabad and Secunderabad are provided by this dam. 

Accordingly, this dam is also the survival of a huge population of aquatic birds as well as crocodiles. This dam is marked as the national wildlife reserve. You could enjoy boat riding at this reservoir.

11. Rachakonda Fort

Distance from Hyderabad: 61 km from Hyderabad.

Best time to visit: The best time is not based on the months but upon the hours. The best hours to visit are between evening and morning hours. To visit the whole fort it takes at most 4 hours.

How to reach: To enjoy the trip, you can have the drive with your family members. Buses are also available to reach.

This fort was constructed in the 14 th century. This fort was constructed by the Recherla Singama Nayak. It is the capital of the Rachakonda region. This place is considered the weekend spot by the people living in the Hyderabad.

It was built on large stones without the help of any mortar. The fort is surrounded by hills and hence, it is a good place for trekking purposes as well. But presently, the fort is not at its best as it is in a somewhat ruined state.

12. Chilkur Balaji Temple

Distance from Hyderabad: 35 km from Hyderabad.

Best time to visit: Best to visit this Balaji temple is during occasions such as Poolangi, Anakota, and Brahmotsavams.

How to reach: Either you can drive on your own or can travel via bus. It takes approx. 30 minutes to reach.

It is located in the picturesque chilkur village. The temple is so beautifully constructed that it has been the attraction spot for the devotees world-wide. It is built on the back of Osman Sagar Lake and close to the road of Vikarabad.

The particular name of the builder is not known yet, but according to saying it is believed that one the devotee has built the temple as due to some health issues, was not able to visit the Tirupati temple.

Lord Venkateshwara appeared to that devotee and instructed to find the lord’s idol. Furthermore, the devotee was also instructed to build the temple together with Bhoodevi and Sridevi. Since then, the devotees who cannot visit Tirupati, visit this temple.

13. Keesara gutta

Distance from Hyderabad: 40 km from Hyderabad.

Best time to visit: The best time to visit the temple is between February to March. The festival of Shivratri is celebrated in a great manner. 

How to reach: You can drive to a place in just 2 hours from Hyderabad.

This temple is located in the Rangareddy district. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. There are more than 100 temples of Lord Shiva in India. But the most famous one in Telangana is Keesara Gutta.

14. Pocharam Wildlife Sanctuary

Distance from Hyderabad: 115 km from Hyderabad.

Best time to visit: The best time is between October to July for having a cooler and comfortable experience.

How to reach: Train can be the best option for traveling to the sanctuary or else road accessibility are available for the drive.

The name of this wildlife sanctuary has been inspired by the name of Pocharam Lake. In the early years of the 20 th century, this area was been declared as the Wildlife sanctuary. The sanctuary is well known for the wide range of migratory birds and five different types of Deer as well as Antelopes.

Distance from Hyderabad: 25 km from Hyderabad.

Times of India’s Edit Page team comprises senior journalists with wide-ranging interests who debate and opine on the news and issues of the day.

MD’s first southwest monsoon forecast on Monday said that in 2024 we are in for an above normal rainfall. It’s expected to be 106% of the long period average of 87 cm. It’s positive for the kharif crop season, which was affected last year by a below normal monsoon that was also erratic in terms of monthly rainfall.

Monsoon-output link weakens  | India’s agricultural output is no longer as closely tied to annual rainfall, thanks to widespread irrigation. For example, take a look at water guzzling rice. Data since 2000 shows that it’s only in 2002 and 2009 that output dropped sharply because of a large rainfall deficiency. Leave aside those two shocks, output has generally trended upwards even though below normal monsoon years have sometimes led to a modest decline in production.

Groundwater’s the reason  | The reason for this resilience is largely the surge in groundwater extraction through tube wells for irrigation. Irrigation through tube wells accounts for over 60% of total irrigation.

Rainfall still matters  | But even as tube well irrigation may have partially insulated crop output from annual swings in rainfall, the southwest monsoon’s influence over agriculture hasn’t weakened if we look at it from a longer-term perspective. This is because groundwater extraction for irrigation is sustainable only if it’s adequately recharged. And about 75% of annual recharge takes place during the southwest monsoon.

Recharge’s the challenge  | At the national level, India appears to be using its groundwater sustainably. Only 59% of the annual extractable groundwater is drawn. However, this national average masks worrisome regional variations.

Punjab and Haryana are critical to India’s overall food security. In these states, groundwater extraction is way past the point of sustainability. Punjab’s ratio of annual groundwater extraction to total annual extractable groundwater in 2022 was 164.15%. Haryana’s ratio is around 136%. While UP’s ratio is 71%, agriculturally important western UP is hurtling towards unsustainability.

Reminder of unfinished business  | IMD’s 2024 monsoon forecast is positive for recharge of groundwater. But it’s also a reminder that India’s agriculture is pushing its luck on climate change. Regional variations in rainfall and groundwater extraction matter greatly for crop output. The story so far is that some of the most productive agri regions in terms of yield have insulated themselves from annual rainfall variations but not their dependence on the monsoon.
