The Boss is back. After a seven-year hiatus since his last performance in Dublin in 2016, Bruce Springsteen is in town this weekend and into next week for what promises to be three memorable gigs from one of the founding fathers of American stadium rock music. Known for long, energetic concerts , Springsteen is expected to treat fans to a three-hour performance. So what do you need to know?

When will he play?

Springsteen is expected to kick things off on time at 7pm at the RDS Arena, Dublin 4, on Friday, May 5th, Sunday, May 7th and Tuesday, May 9th.

What time should I arrive?

Gates open at 5pm.

How do I get there – and home again?

Public transport is the best way to get to the RDS. Leave plenty of time to get to and from the venue.

By Dart Lansdowne Road and Sandymount Dart stations are a 10 to 15 minute walk away, depending which entrance of the arena your gig ticket is for. If you’re coming by train from outside Dublin, change from your intercity service at Connolly or Pearse stations. The last Darts of the night leave shortly after 11.30pm.

By bus Take Dublin Bus route 4, 7, 7a or 120 to stop 415, on Pembroke Road, opposite the US embassy. You can also take route 4, 7 or 7a to stop 483, outside 90 Merrion Road, opposite the British embassy.

By car Parking is extremely limited around the RDS, which is in a residential area. Concert promoters have strongly encouraged fans to use public transport. If driving is your only option, there are car parks around the city centre near transport links that can take you the rest of the way. An Garda Síochána will also be operating a traffic-management plan, which will be available on the Garda website closer to the time. AA Roadwatch will provide reports on traffic, road works and delays on its website.

Stay up to date The gig organiser, Aiken Promotions, has asked fans to keep an eye on its website and socials for any updates.

Approach routes Follow the red route , and enter the RDS via Simmonscourt Road, if your ticket is for Gold Circle, Anglesea Stand blocks C-E or Grandstand blocks F-J. Follow the yellow route , and enter via Merrion Road, if you have an accessible ticket or pitch ticket. Follow the blue route , and enter via Anglesea Road, if your ticket is for pitch, Anglesea Stand blocks A-C or Grandstand blocks K-N.

[  Bruce Springsteen quiz: How well do you know The Boss?  ]

Will there be a support act?

While concert goers won’t see a warm up act, Springsteen will be backed up by his long-time collaborators, The E Street Band, who’ve been as central to his shows as the Boss himself since the 1970s.

What will they play?

While we don’t know exactly what’s on the agenda, at a Springsteen gig in Barcelona last Sunday (where Michelle Obama surprised fans by getting up on stage and singing backing vocals during one song) the rock idol played hit after hit:

  • My Love Will Not Let You Down
  • No Surrender
  • Prove It All Night
  • Letter to You
  • The Promised Land
  • Out in the Street
  • Kitty’s Back
  • Mary’s Place
  • The E Street Shuffle
  • Last Man Standing
  • Backstreets
  • Because the Night
  • She’s the One
  • Wrecking Ball
  • Thunder Road

And that’s not even including the encore:

  • Born in the U.S.A.
  • Born to Run
  • Dancing in the Dark
  • Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out
  • I’ll See You in My Dreams

[  Bruce Springsteen: Only the Strong Survive review - Going back to his roots  ]

Are there any tickets left?

For those hoping to nab a last-minute ticket, it’s bad news. All three gigs are sold out and have been for some time. Ticketmaster, the official seller for the event, has asked fans to beware of bogus ticket sellers and tour operators. Fans have been advised that screenshots or printouts of digital tickets will not be accepted as entry and should show a live barcode on the Ticketmaster app to gain entry. Concert goers should also make sure their phones are fully charged before leaving the house and ensure their phone brightness is set at maximum when entering the scanning area.

What’s will security be like?

Allow time for security checks on the way in. Don’t bring a bag unless totally necessary, and even then remember that bags larger than A4 size will not be permitted. There will be no cloakroom or storage facilities. You will not be allowed to bring umbrellas, alcohol (or other food and drink), garden furniture, selfie sticks, flares, glasses or cans into the venue.

Can I take photographs at the concert?

Yes, but not with a professional cameras, or a camera with a detachable lens. So stick to your smartphone. Video cameras and audio recorders, iPads and GoPros are also banned.

What’s the weather forecast?

Friday is shaping up to be a dry evening, with highs of 17 degrees in the afternoon expected to cool to a mild 16 degrees or a little less when the gig kicks off at 7pm. Met Éireann have predicted mild temperatures and cloud cover over Dublin for Sunday’s gig, with rain expected to arrive for the latter part of the concert - a light raincoat wouldn’t go amiss. Tuesday, will also see scattered showers throughout the evening.

When is it happening?

May 5, 7 and 9 of 2023, as part of a world tour.

How much are tickets?

Prices are €96 to €156 for seated, and €131 for standing (plus the usual Ticketmaster fees per ticket, etc.).

Friday, May 27, at 8am. Ticket limit of six per booking, and no U16s permitted in the standing area. All three concerts sold out on Friday morning.

How do I buy tickets online from Ticketmaster?

Register an account with your email address and other info here . If you already have an account, double-check that your card information is up to date.

Follow the steps to register your account, then head back to the gig's ticket page here - and get in early on Friday morning - tickets for this one are going to disappear fast.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band's 2023 world tour poster

What's the occasion that brings them here?

Bruce and his longtime collaborators in the E Street Band are touring the world next year, following the Covid-19 crisis.

The release and promotion of 2020 album Letter to You ought to factor heavily into the setlist, but it wouldn't be a Bruce gig without a tonne of the classics for a sunny summer evening out.

Who's in the E Street Band currently?

A crew of veteran Springsteen bandmates, including garage-rock exponent Little Steven Van Zandt, and longtime collaborator Nils Lofgren on guitar; plus Roy Bittan - piano, synthesizer;  Patti Scialfa - guitar, vocals; Garry Tallent - bass guitar;  and Max Weinberg - drums; with Soozie Tyrell - violin, guitar, vocals; Jake Clemons - saxophone; and Charlie Giordano - keyboards.

Any word on support acts?

Any specific info on accessible tickets?

None from the promoters as of yet - the venue has accessibility information on its own website , however.

Everything you need to know about the RDS Dublin Horse Show 2022

Emily Mullen

rds tour 2022

The biggest event in the Irish horsey calendar is returning after a two-year hiatus

One of the landmark weeks in the Summer schedule, the Dublin Horse Show is returning for the first time since 2019. What a return to form it will be, with all the usual jumps, jaunts and competitions being held in the iconic RDS grounds, which will be taken over by horses and courses for the week. Brush your pony tale out, grab your tack and jump on all the things you need to know about the Dublin Horse Show 2022:

When is it on?

The Dublin Horse Show is on for five days, from Wednesday August 17th until Sunday August 21st 2022.

Where is it on?

The event takes place at the RDS on Dublin 4’s Merrion Road, Ballsbridge.

What is it?

Primarily it is a horse show, but over time it has dovetailed into an event for fashion and socialising. Whether you are a horse-girl or guy, the show is a bit of craic and a great day out.

What can you see at it?

First and foremost sport, which will see over 1,600 horses and ponies from around Ireland and the world’s best international showjumpers competing across five days. Competitions range from Irish Draught classes, pony club games to the side saddle competitions.

What’s the must-catch event?

Like anything this changes from person-to-person, however the Puissance which takes place on Saturday (the 20th) is perhaps the most-loved event of the whole show. It’s a nail-biting one to watch, as the world’s best showjumpers navigate a course that culminates in a jump that increases in height each round. Each round the iconic red and white bricks of the jump are stacked higher and higher until it seems no horse is able to jump it.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Cb7Cj39A_bI/?utm_source=ig_embed&ig_rid=6e371e88-e7a7-45bf-90f6-965af6ec5160

What else is there to do:

There are over 300 stands selling mostly horse-focused products, everything from harnesses, and saddles to soap, there are also live demonstrations and talks on equine-assisted therapy and personal wellness.

What’s the best day to go?

Completely depends on what you want to get out of your trip to The Horse Show. The opening day, Wednesday (17th) brings a lot of pageantry and junior competitions, while Thursday (18th) is Ladies Day considered the oldest Ladies Day in the world, which hosts the Best Dressed competition. Heavier breeds take centre stage on Friday (19th) while Saturday (20th) has the Puissance, while Sunday (21st) culminates in the Longines Grand Prix of Ireland which has the highest stakes (and the largest prize fund).

Where do you get tickets:

You can grab tickets  online  from Ticketmaster

What’s the craic with tickets:

Tickets are sold daily, priced at €23 for an adult, €17 for a child, student or OAP and €65 for a family of five.

Are there tickets still available?

At the time of writing, there are tickets available.

How do you get there?

Parking is extremely limited, but you can get to the RDS via Dublin bus routes 4, 7, 7a and 18. Other buses stop at Stillorgan Road which is a ten-minute walk to the venue, including 46a, 145, 155, 39a, 84x, 66x and 67x. The venue is also a short walk from the Lansdowne Road and Sandymount DART stations.

Where is the best drop-off point for the Horse Show?

The best drop-off and pick-up point is the RDS Merrion Road Entrance.

Is there car parking?

There is public car parking available at at UCD and Muckross College in Donnybrook, which typically costs €15 per day. There are free shuttle bus for ticket holders to and from the RDS running every 20 minutes.

Is it family-friendly?

It is family-friendly, with discounted tickets available for kids. There will be plenty of entertainment for kids as well as a dedicated Kids Zone located behind the Grand Stand that will feature animals from Wooly Farms, inflatable attractions, an activity zone, face-painting etc.

Disappointed

I called the number on the English Heritage magazine to make enquiries and to book the Rhodes and Aegean tour for 2025. I could not believe how mean the receptionist who picked up the phone was. He hung up on me while we were still talking. I called back twice and he hung up each time.

Croatia and Montenego

Croatia and Montenego I agree with everything 2 other people wrote about the Pearl Beach Resort in Canji. The 2nd week in the Croatia and Montenegro holiday. I am there at the moment and can't wait to go home. I have never ever wanted to go home early from a holiday before. It's the first hotel in 40 years I've ever stayed in with no lounges with comfortable seats. Just a bar with fairly hard seats. The indoor pool was unheated and not really indoors as it had a retractable roof which was always open. The shower in there only cold water, no changing room and an empty jacuzzi. There was no tourist information whatsoever in the hotel about buses or taxis etc. They only wanted you to go on their expensive excursions. The food was not hot enough and you had to put your own plate in the microwave supplied! Also the hot water was never boiling to make cups of tea and had to be put in the microwave. As other people have said there is absolutely nothing in walking distance of the hotel except one fish restaurant and I'm allergic to fish. The hotel was very clean and our room was nice but with a tiny shower area in the bathroom. You had to hold the shower as there was nowhere to hook it above waist level. Also no panel or anything to stop you soaking the toilet etc. The buffet food was average for hotels.

Just back from a fab trip to Croatia

Just back from a fab trip to Croatia, Bosnia Herzegovina & Montenegro. Great to see so many lovely places during the first week. We had a very knowledgeable, fun, friendly tour guide Gulcin. She made sure we had all necessary info re hotels and excursions. Tour hotels were all very comfortable with modern rooms and shower rooms. Most with pools & balconies with nice view. Only one night no view, but as out most of day touring this isn't an issue. Always a great selection of food too, mainly buffet. Due to low season dates, we would definitely recommend the all inclusive option too. The 2nd week hotel was 4*.....4 pools, great food and drink selection, great staff.....always happy to help. Location outside hotel was quiet and in process of being done up as most other businesses open 1st May, but on an off season holiday at such a great price (approx £900 for 15 days, a 7 day half board tour, all inc 2nd week, really cant complain) this can be expected. Met lots of other lovely folk on the trip too....lots of fun had! It was a fab mystery tour. Thankyou RSD and all who made it such a great trip!

Very satisfied.

When I see bad reviews about this company I decided to write this. I recently went Croatia and Montenegro tour with them. Every thing from booking to the end of tour very smooth. Very well planned and professional service. I tried to find any complaints but couldn't. Some people find it rushing But I think it is not possible to achieve such an extensive itinerary without a tight schedule. Some people have lots of moaning about jewellery, carpet and leather factory. But for me it is a different experience. Although the products seem expensive they are quality products .We can witness them but no need to buy . There are many ways we can appreciate their effort. It is a very well planned tour, we were provided Excellent Hotels with delicious food. Comfortable modern coaches. I am not ungrateful to forget our guide Mr Mahir and Driver Joshep. They are simply excellent, helpful. This was my second trip with RSD and not the last. I have already booked Rhodes with them next year.

We had a problem at the start of our holiday when our flight was diverted to another airport. RSD advised us to take a taxi to our first hotel, and reimbursed the costs, and arranged for the part of our tour we missed to be given at the end of the week. They handled this problem well. Better food on the package would have earned tgem 5 stars.

Incredible India

RSD Travel : India tour We joined the RSD group tour of Palaces and Forts of Rajasthan in March 2024, having experienced excellent guidance from the same company in the UAE in 2019. Throughout our travels, we were in awe of our empathetic and knowledgeable guide, Mohammed Raees, who told us about Gods, castes, religion, politics, education, in the most impeccable English and who was able to anticipate travel needs throughout. Raees surprised us with treats when we scarcely were aware that we needed them. He shielded us from hard selling moments, by allowing some souvenirs to be brought on board the coach. Both the tourists and the local sellers seemed to find his tactics worked. Raees also made time to socialise with the group during the all-important meal-times at hotels. Without doubt, he was the star of this RSD road-show. We have returned with tremendous insights in to the culture of this vast sub-continent. The pace of the tour was intense, the accumulation of knowledge was breathtaking. I think that RSD tends to reward its participants with some down-time. This tour was perhaps a little relentless and I would have valued an opportunity to relax a little bit. Janine and Chris Turner

RSD Croatia & Montenegro 15 days

Currently on our 2nd week of 15 day tour of Croatia and montenegro. Absolutely super hotels, food and tour guide, first week is a bit full on but we knew it would be and 2nd week hotel is first class. All hotels were good, clean and food excellent. My advice would be to do the upgrade especially 2nd week, it's worth 41 euros per day just for drinks. Local beer and wine very good. 2nd week hotel is kumoor montenegro,4 star, there are some restaurants open April within 15 minute walk. I would do this trip again, I had an injury to my knee 2 weeks before the holiday so had to use a stick but I still managed to do everything. Of course good weather helps and in April it ranged from 19 to 26 degrees.

Don’t buy the Croatia-Bosnia-Montenegro tour

I go on holiday to relax, see new sights and enjoy myself. Instead on this trip I have never felt so anxious or stressed while on holiday. First there is (unnecessarily) no certainty about hotels or timings for each visit - at least they (W Touristic the local agent) don’t tell you until the last minute each day. This suspense allows the hard selling and manipulative (I am not exaggerating - this was a word used by many of my fellow travellers) main guide to push the extras. It was truly thuggish and bullying. The trips may have been worth doing - but they were not value for money. The full board upgrade for the second week (so called free week) hotel was sold particularly hard - ‘unless you upgrade’ the guide said ‘I cannot guarantee that you will be in this good hotel’. Non-upgraders, even half-boarders, were made to feel guilty, ashamed even. Assumedly he was on a commission. If you don’t go on the trips then the time is yours, but expect to be dumped somewhere while you wait for the coach to pick you. And the trips and upgrades had to be paid in cash, not by card, which upset a lot of people. (No doubt the local tax authorities would be interested in this ruse). What made this worse is the second week hotel didn’t offer bed and breakfast, ‘bed only’ being the only purported upgrade option (an unusual marketing technique). Given the nearest open restaurant in April was over a mile away, this would have constrained many of the older travellers in our group. Personally I always like to visit the local restaurants and mingle with non-tourists when I am away and this proved to be the better option. Yes the food in the hotels was (mostly) good but eating typical buffet food for two weeks even for the diehard fan is just too much. I don’t mind going to the carpet factory, or the jewellery and leather (coat) outlet but we all expected to see and celebrate some local craftspeople making goods. But it was not to be - just the hard sell of manufactured goods brought into a warehouse to entice tourists into buying. We don’t do bartering they say - oh, but they do. I once bought a carpet in a market in Istanbul so I was ready for ratcheting up of the sales spiel. But I was not ready psychologically for when 40 sales people suddenly entered the room and picked you off! I have had more anxiety attacks and sleepless nights on this holiday than I ever got from work. These factory visits help subsidise the holiday but the reason you will go on the trip is that it appears to be good value. Beware. Finally, the aspect that attracted me to this holiday was the variety of UNESCO and similar historic sights that were on offer. But you get to spend so little time at each place that you never really absorb the history in any depth. The guides at each city (who all need tipping) were mostly good but the experience is shallow. Many of us were entranced by Budva and Kotor and were able to return after our token visit as these towns could be accessed from our resort by bus. The desire to travel by bus was not anticipated by our main guide who assumed we would sit in the second hotel with our full upgrade and loads of free drink. We wondered often if the tour was designed around his convenience (and so he can glean Euro20 of tips per person) - he did prefer the hotels with a gym, rather than as an opportunity to delight the visitor. Do not be late for the coach or you will be left behind! On three occasions he would have happily left people behind. On one of these occasions two of us went out on a search party for an elderly and clearly confused woman since the main guide was in a hurry and was not going to wait. We found her but while we were out our partners were pressured into trying to ring us to find out where we were after just five minutes. Disgraceful behaviour! Don’t go with RSD.

RSD Cappadocia trip October 2023

Cappadocia trip, October 2023. Exceptionally well organised from start to finish - including flights, transfers and tours. Interesting tour programme, knowledgeable guides and quality hotels at very affordable prices. I am a 64 yo, solo traveller and appreciate RSD's low cost solo supplement - much lower than other "No single supplement, Solo specialist agencies". I have done four tours with RSD and am doing my fifth in May. A lot of the RSD travellersare I meet are return customers - says a lot. Exceptional VFM for couples on a budget and likewise for solo tourists like myself.

A most enjoyable fortnight

A most enjoyable fortnight. The sights in Rhodes and Turkey were fascinating and memorable, even to those with no in-depth interest in history. Our guide was knowledgeable, efficient and courteous. Hotels were mainly very comfortable and the food delicious. All in all it was a great trip - relaxing, edifying and comfortable, all at an excellent price.

We had a great holiday

We had a great holiday, visiting Croatia, Bosnia Herzegovina and Montenegro. The first week was an interesting tour of ancient cities and learning about the history of the places we visited. The hotels we stayed in were mostly very good, there was one hotel where we had to lug our cases up several flights of steps as there were no lifts. The tour guide was pleasant and well informed and all the excursions were well organised. Week two was spent at a beach resort in Montenegro, the hotel here was tired but satisfactory and the location was beautiful and again we could easily use the local bus to visit the nearby town.

Cracking Cappadocia,

We had a fantastic holiday in Cappadocia with RSD Travel. From initial check-in until our return flight home, it was a great experience. On the tour week we saw many interesting sights at a steady pace. The accommodation and food were very good. The extra week hotel ,the Simona Comfort Hotel, was particularly good and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. For value for money, RSD Travel simply can't be beaten!

RSD Indian Tour Excels

Cultural tour of India excelling with an outstanding guide. I have high expectations of RSD tours, but Devendra Singh raised this trip to another level. He handled the range of Indian culture and heritage sites impeccably and was able to unite an internationally diverse coachload of 36 by his positive approach to human relationships. This was an unforgettable and rejuvenating experience. I could even cope with 38 degree heat, basking in the glow of genuine concern and attention to detail.

Most disappointing operation

I was recommended this holiday by a previous guest, sadly it’s gone downhill. A not very informative guide, we learnt more from the internet. I objected to the lock in at the hard sell leather, carpet & jewellery outlets, this is not what I went to Turkey for. Our other complaint concerned the lunchtime stops. If you didn’t buy the lunch package you were left outside a petrol station each of 4 days to sit on the pavement, beyond a joke. I actually booked myself a flight home after the first week I was so disappointed. Waste of money

Cappadocia…

I travelled with RSD Travel to Cappodocia last Sept after having a wonderful holiday with them to Croatia the year before. Flights from Gatwick are a problem for me as I live in Norfolk and no other regional airports are used. There were a few incidents on Turkish trip - coach braking down, lack of first aid kit on the coach and chaos at the departing hotel with luggage. Lack of organisation with passengers arriving and departing with luggage being left outside the hotel. Other than that a good holiday.

Croatia/Montenegro October to November

Having recently returned from the October 18 Croatia/Montenergro holiday which was the worst holiday I have ever had, I am posting this review to warn anyone who might be tempted to book a holiday with RSD Travel. My advice to you is – DON’T. I endured all the complaints listed by other reviewers including a surly and unhelpful tour guide, days wasted on unnecessary factory visits, dirty hotel, dogs and cats roaming around the dining room and food covered in flies and wasps. ! will NEVER travel with RSD Travel again. Avoid the two week trip to Croatia / Montenegro

I would advise against doing a two week trip to Croatia and Montenegro with RSD Travel. The first week of travelling around is OK but second week stuck in a second rate hotel in Montenegro is very boring. The outside pool is empty, the indoor pool lacks a changing room, there are no cafes or bookable trips locally outside the hotel, nothing to do in the evenings, not even anywhere nice to sit in the hotel like a lounge. Food is sometimes reheated, dinner finished at 8pm. The TV only has one channel in English, which is just news. I wouldn't recommend a week in such a backwater unless you plan to use it as a base to travel from to explore further afield. It wasn't a place you could relax at in my opinion.

Cappadocia cultural holiday

RSD organise a very full programme of events and the guide was very friendly and had a lot of local knowledge. The chance to go on the Cappadocia balloon flight was an amazing unforgettable experience. The flight out was a late evening flight which made us tired at the start of the holiday, but that was not a problem. They were very well organised and put us quickly into our coach group.

We have been on a wonderful holiday to India with RSD. It was the most amazing experience. Everything from the minute it began was superb. Rashid our guide made this happen as he was so knowledgable and gave us wonderful experiences above and beyond expectations. We have traveled with RSD before and they are superb value for money. RSD trip to Croatia first of all the…

RSD trip to Croatia first of all the coach rep could barely talk English we were rushed from one hotel to the next, yes we understand to see all the planned visits would take time! Now we have been dumped for our second relaxing week in Hotel Otrant. This hotel is definitely not 4 star. The rooms are dirty, stained and prior to checking in , have just been treated for bed bugs!!! We have emailed RSD to be relocated with the rest of our party who are staying in Hotel Catrina Korbor, or to be flown back home to the UK. So far we are stuck exhausted and extremely upset and just want some HELP please!

Former U.S. Open Champion Sloane Stephens Wins First WTA Title Since 2022

  • Author: Madison Williams

American tennis star Sloane Stephens won her first WTA title since the 2022 season on Sunday at the Open de Rouen in France.

Stephens, whose stardom rose when she won the 2017 U.S. Open title, beat Poland's Magda Linette in three sets, 6–1, 2–6, 6–2, in just two hours and 10 minutes during the final on Sunday.

The last tournament Stephens brought home a winner's trophy from was Mexico's Abierto Akron Zapopan in Feb. 2022. The Open de Rouen win is her fifth WTA 250 title, but the eighth professional tennis title in her career. At 31 years old, Stephens made her mark back in the winner's circle. Sunday's win also was her first title victory on clay since 2016's Volvo Car Open in Charleston, S.C.

Stephens showed off a huge smile after shaking hands with her opponent. It was clear to see how happy she was to add another title to her list of tennis achievements.

Stephens will likely play in a couple tournaments before competing in the 2024 French Open, which begins May 20 in Paris.

Celine Dion was diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome in 2022 and is opening up about how she’s learning to live with the rare autoimmune neurological disorder.

In a new interview, the Canadian singer discusses her health and says if she’ll return to touring.

Celine Dion Makes Surprise Appearance At The Grammys Amid Stiff Person Syndrome Diagnosis

She continued, “Five days a week I undergo athletic, physical and vocal therapy. I work on my toes, my knees, my calves, my fingers, my singing, my voice… I have to learn to live with it now and stop questioning myself. At the beginning I would ask myself: why me? How did this happen? What have I done? Is this my fault?”

Dion says she doesn’t have the answers as to why she got this illness and she only has two options, “Either I train like an athlete and work super hard, or I switch off and it’s over, I stay at home, listen to my songs, stand in front of my mirror and sing to myself. I’ve chosen to work with all my body and soul, from head to toe, with a medical team. I want to be the best I can be. My goal is to see the Eiffel Tower again!”

The “My Heart Will Go On” singer says that it’s her family, children, and fans that keep her strong and is grateful she has the means to have good doctors and treatments, adding, “I have this strength within me. I know that nothing is going to stop me.”

Since being diagnosed with SPS, Dion has been largely kept out of the public eye. In February of this year, she made a surprise appearance at the Grammys and presented an award to Taylor Swift .

When asked about getting back on stage and touring again, Dion said, “I can’t answer that… Because for four years I’ve been saying to myself that I’m not going back, that I’m ready, that I’m not ready… As things stand, I can’t stand here and say to you: ‘Yes, in four months’ [I will return]. I don’t know… My body will tell me.”

Share All sharing options for: Billy Horschel wins PGA Tour event amid historic finish, but there’s a catch

Corales Puntacana Championship - Final Round

Eleven months ago, after the first round of the Memorial Tournament, Billy Horschel stood in front of the media and fought back tears as he talked about his lack of confidence.

He had just fired a 12-over 84, which served as a metaphor for his struggles throughout the 2023 season. Horschel missed 10 cuts a year ago, which led to him missing out on the FedEx Cup Playoffs .

As such, Horschel did not meet the qualification requirements to play in this week’s RBC Heritage —the fifth Signature Event of the 2024 season . But he still wanted to play, knowing that his game was trending in the right direction.

So, he teed it up at the Corales Puntacana Championship in the Dominican Republic, an opposite full-field event.

The decision paid off.

Corales Puntacana Championship

Horschel began the final round three strokes behind Wesley Bryan, but he stormed past him and all the others to win by two. The former Florida Gator signed for a 9-under 63, which tied the course record, to win for the first time on the PGA Tour since the 2022 Memorial.

“This game of golf is so fickle. I think you can put a lot into it and get everything you want out of it,” Horschel said after his win on Sunday.

“But I knew in my 14 years, 13 years previously on the PGA Tour, that I had the ability, I had the talent. I just needed to continue to work hard, do the right things, and continue to believe that good stuff was going to come to the forefront at some point in time.”

Even though his victory did not come against the likes of Scottie Scheffler , Wyndham Clark , Rory McIlroy, or any other elite PGA Tour players, Horschel still holds this win—and other opposite field events—in high regard.

“The PGA Tour has a lot of tournaments, and it’s tough for every tournament to get its due. Opposite-field events have been crucial for many players coming up the ranks,” Horschel explained.

“Look at Tony Finau, Viktor Hovland winning in Puerto Rico, Matt Wallace won this. So listen, it’s another opportunity to play, it’s another opportunity to become a better player, to get that win on the PGA Tour. These events are crucial to the PGA Tour in the sense of the growth of the development of the players on the PGA Tour.”

8-under thru 12 @BillyHo_Golf leads by two after an eagle @CoralesChamp . pic.twitter.com/qkAjIiaKmI — PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR) April 21, 2024

Horschel’s victory in the Dominican Republic vaults him from 76th to 45th in the FedEx Cup rankings. The top 70 players earn entry into the FedEx Cup Playoffs, so yes, this win carries significant weight.

But Horschel would not have been able to finish the job without his strong psyche and ability to handle pressure down the stretch.

“I don’t like talking about myself but growing up, I always wanted the ball when I was a pitcher; I always wanted to be the guy at battle trying to drive in the winning run; I always wanted to have it on me,” Horschel explained.

“I think growing up and having that mentality, I have grown into Ioving being in the lead. I love having that spotlight on me; I love having everything on me, knowing that if I mess up, it’s my fault, and I am the one who can control my destiny. I’ve always been really good up near the lead, and today, I showed that a little bit.”

Horschel made five birdies on the front nine to soar toward the top of the leaderboard at the midway point of his round. True to himself, he did not fold down the stretch, but rather, he thrived. His eagle at the par-5 12th gave him a two-shot lead with six holes to play, and he never relinquished it.

Review: Bad Bunny the bandido lights up the Wells Fargo Center on his ‘Most Wanted Tour’

Bad Bunny came to South Philly on Friday night for a sold-out show at the Wells Fargo Center.

It was the first time in Philadelphia for the Puerto Rican rapper, singer and influential cultural force — who was born Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio — since he headlined the Made in America festival in 2022.

The stop on his Most Wanted Tour was in support of his 2023 album Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana — which translates from Spanish to English as Nobody Knows What Is Going to Happen Tomorrow — and a thumping, infectious celebration of Latino pride.

The Inquirer’s Rosa Cartagena and Dan DeLuca went to the show. Here’s their review.

Dan DeLuca: Good morning after Bad Bunny, Rosa. We saw Bad Bunny take the stage following an overture by the Philharmonic Orchestra Project (led by Grammy-winning conductor Carlitos Lopez), ride a horse, and entertain fans while looking down on them from a floating skybridge. How’d you like it? What were the highlights for you?

Rosa Cartagena: I am still so pumped. Sore, but energized. Bad Bunny is one of the artists who has defined my 20s. He’s delivered so much incredible music that has catapulted reggaeton, Latin trap, and Spanish-language music overall to a completely new level — all while simultaneously shining a spotlight on Puerto Rico’s political problems and resilience. My family and I love Bad Bunny and we have so much fun listening to him together, so what I was really excited to see was how the crowd reflected that, too: There were so many intergenerational families (including at least one abuela!) and it warmed my heart.

Inside the arena, the biggest highlight for me was his Latin trap section. Nadie Sabe was a great album, but I desperately wanted to hear such tracks as “Tú No Metes Cabra,” “Chambea,” and “Soy Peor.” I wish he performed more than snippets but I’ll take what I can get. He was his flirty, funny self — blowing kisses, waving, and winking at the crowd. The floating stage brought him closer to the fans at all seating levels and he had me tearing up at one moment when the lights went on and showed so many Puerto Rican flags, and he simply, quietly, soaked it all in from his perch.

Despite being a fan since the mix-tape days, I hadn’t seen him live before, but you’ve seen him a few times in Philly, right? How did this show compare?

D.D.: I’ve only seen him once before, actually. When he headlined Made in America in 2022, in the closing night show that, if the festival, which is canceled again this year, never comes back will go down as the last-ever MIA performance.

I enjoyed this more. What was cool about that MIA show was how he transformed the grounds into a Latinx dance party, making Jay-Z’s festival over in his own image and language. This was a really smartly staged arena show with top-shelf production — though the relationship between Bad Bunny and the audience is still what makes it special.

He did a lot of standing there and soaking in the adulation — it was a bit Evita -ish when he was on the floating stage, looking down on his people from the balcony. But who can blame him? The passion and appreciation for the ways he’s represented Latino culture and refused to compromise or cross over by rapping or singing in English is real. His audience loves him for it, as well they should.

Yeah, the Latin trap section was impressive. I could feel the bass coming up through the soles of my shoes.

Let’s talk about the staging. The orchestral introduction was classy, and created an Ennio Morricone Spaghetti Western vibe, fitting with the outlaw imagery of Nadie Sabe . A friend of mine on Facebook who’s also a non-Spanish speaker compared it to watching an Italian opera. You can be swept up by the emotion of the music, and the contours of the story reveal themselves.

R.C.: The orchestra definitely brought a level of class to the crowd ready for perreo — and that kind of genre-mashing surprise is part of why people love his sound. I see the bandido theme here almost in between Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter (which came out five months after Nadie Sabe ) and Taylor Swift’s brand-new The Tortured Poets Department , because it’s both bad boy and sad boy. (And unlike Beyoncé's country, he leans hard into Tex-Mex vaquero culture with a bolo tie and his mariachi-inspired outfit.)

But the resonance isn’t just contemporary. He also spotlights Puerto Rican folkloric music, like bringing plena performers to last year’s Grammys. Before he arrived onstage, the orchestra played an instrumental rendition of the iconic bolero by La Lupe, “Qué Te Pedi,” a beloved song that cuts across generations, proving what I heard from so many fans last night: He hasn’t forgotten his roots. It was also refreshing to hear his intimate, pared-down acoustic section, when he sat on the piano and crooned while holding a horse plushie.

D.D.: The piano section was sweet. Sitting on it, sort of like Michelle Pfeiffer in The Fabulous Baker Boys . It was impressive that he could pull off a cocktail lounge vibe in a massive arena. And before “Qué Te Pedi,” the intro music was Billie Holiday’s “I’ll Look Around.” Mood music of the highest order.

The filmed interlude of a masked man riding across the desert was like Clint Eastwood in a Sergeo Leone movie crossed with Max von Sydow in The Seventh Seal . But when Bad Bunny actually rode in on a horse it was anticlimactic, a brief video screen talking point. And I was glad it was short, though: I was worried the poor horse was going to freak out in a room with 20,000 people!

The setup with two stages, plus the floating sky bridge — that worked really well. And the lights were spectacular. It seemed almost everybody was wearing the light-up Bad Bunny boot necklaces synced to turn the room green or red, in rhythm with the music. The only show I’ve seen that used that trick so well was the Weeknd at the Linc a couple of summers ago.

R.C.: Breathtaking, for sure. The orb lights were versatile and dynamic, at one point making a bridge (like our own Benjamin Franklin). He threw down. The only thing Philly fans might have missed was “Acho PR,” the track where he shouts out Bryce Harper and the Phillies .
