“With cruising continuing to rise as a popular choice of travel among vacationers, we look forward to welcoming more guests on Asia’s largest and most innovative ship, Spectrum of the Seas, that will take guests all over Asia in a mix of short and long cruises. Our 12-night cruises between Singapore and Japan are especially popular amongst both local and international guests – the first sailing is almost fully sold out, and we are thrilled to be able to showcase the beauty of the region with a second set of sailings that will be sure to take guests on an adventure,” said Angie Stephen, Vice President and Managing Director, Asia-Pacific, Royal Caribbean International.

MATTA believe that the demand for international cruise tourism is extraordinary as more people are releasing the experience the advantages it offers over air or land travel. Feytech holdings aims to raise rm114mil from ipo, duopharma’s new rm578mil contracts a positive.

Viking and the investors sold 64.04 million shares for US$24 apiece. — Bloomberg

NEW YORK: Viking Holdings Ltd priced its initial public offering (IPO) near the top of a marketed range to raise US$1.54bil for the luxury cruise operator and two investors, according to people familiar with the matter.

Viking and the investors sold 64.04 million shares for US$24 apiece, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the information wasn’t public yet.

Best known for its art and history-rich river tours of Europe, Viking had marketed the shares for US$21 to US$25 each. It increased the number of shares offered by private equity firm TPG Inc and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board at the time of the pricing to 53.04 million, the people said.

The size of the potential over-allotment was also increased to 9.6 million shares, the people said. A representative for TPG declined to comment, while Viking and CPPIB didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.

The two investors had already increased the number of shares offering to 42 million ahead of the pricing, while the company had marketed 11 million shares.

At the IPO price, Viking will have a market value of US$10.4bil based on the outstanding shares listed in its filings with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

Viking’s founder, chairman and chief executive officer Torstein Hagen, will continue to control the company with his daughter Karine Hagen, exercising 87% of the company’s voting power.

TPG and CPPIB will each control 4.5% of votes.

Founded in 1997, Viking operates cruises around the world and has 92 vessels, according to the filing. It has more than 10,000 employees in over 90 countries.

While the company has expanded beyond its original tours of rivers such as the Danube and the Rhine, it continues to cater to older, wealthier travellers seeking “more than just a vacation”, Torstein said in the company’s prospectus.

“We maintain a clear focus on our most relevant customer group – English-speaking travellers aged 55 and over, who have the time, money and desire to explore the world,” Torstein wrote.

“We do not try to be all things to all people, which is why we only offer a single-language experience on board our ships – there are no casinos and children under 18 are not allowed.”

Viking is the second-biggest consumer-oriented company to go public on a US exchange this year, after the US$1.57bil listing by Amer Sports Inc in January.

Since then, an assortment of tech, health-related and industrial businesses have held IPOs, raising more than US$13bil, not including Viking.

Bermuda-based Viking is joining its publicly traded peers Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd, Carnival Corp and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd Royal Caribbean, the largest of them with a market value of about US$37bil, is the only one of the three whose shares have climbed back to where they started before the pandemic.

In 2022, Viking reported a profit of US$399mil on US$3.2bil of revenue, which rose sharply compared to the previous two years as the pandemic ebbed.

Last year, the company lost US$1.8bil as revenue grew to US$4.7bil.

The filings showed adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciations and amortisation of US$1.09bil for 2023, which included a gain of about US$2bil from the re-measurement of derivatives associated with preference shares that will convert with the IPO.

Viking’s offering is being led by Bank of America Corp, JPMorgan Chase & Co, UBS Group AG and Wells Fargo & Co.

Viking’s shares were expected to begin trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol VIK. —Bloomberg

Malaysia Airlines continues its commercial elevation journey

K UALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airlines introduce its newest initiative in the realm of travel experiences, featuring a one-year strategic cruise partnership with industry expert, Apple Vacations, complemented by collaborative efforts with esteemed global cruise lines such as Peace Boat, Princess Cruises, Resorts World, and Uniworld River Cruises.

As part of its continuous effort to make Malaysia a true Asean tourism hub, this partnership between Malaysia Airlines and Apple Vacations marks a significant advancement in travel experiences, merging Malaysia Airlines' commitment to seamless air travel with Apple Vacations' extensive network of esteemed cruise partners. By bridging the airline with prominent cruise companies, this collaboration aims to cater to the diverse preferences of travellers seeking unparalleled experiences both in the air and at sea.

This collaboration allows Malaysia Airlines to promote a seamless travel experience through MHcruise packages, complementing Apple Vacations' flycruise offerings. These packages invite travellers to enjoy the best of both worlds; the convenience of air travel and the allure of cruising at attractive and competitive fares, tailored to meet diverse preferences, from luxurious to budget-friendly options.

MAG chief commercial officer of airlines Dersenish Aresandiran said, “Through our collaboration, we're not only expanding our offerings but also fueling a positive ripple effect throughout Malaysia's tourism industry.

“By curating unparalleled travel experiences, we're not only attracting visitors, but also fostering sustainable economic growth and development.

“Together, we are pioneering new standards, revitalising the travel landscape, and positioning Malaysia as a premier destination for global travellers as well as anchoring Malaysia as a gateway to Asia and Beyond.”

Apple Vacations co-founder and group managing director Datuk Seri Koh Yock Heng said, “Cruise vacations are rapidly gaining popularity, with both regional favourites like Resorts World Cruise and Royal Caribbean, as well as international options such as Princess Cruise for Alaska tour packages and Peace Boat for global excursions, captivating travellers.

“River cruise packages along the Danube and Rhine rivers, currently offered by Uniworld Cruises, are also seeing a surge in interest.

“Additionally, the emerging trend of fly-cruise packages is appealing to holiday-goers looking for seamless connectivity and convenient booking options.”

By seamlessly blending air travel with exceptional cruise experiences, Malaysia Airlines aims to surpass global travellers' expectations, elevate travel standards, and create extraordinary moments for all its customers as part of its new era of growth forward.

3 reasons royal caribbean is the best cruise line stock.

Earnings season has come to a close for the three publicly traded cruise lines. Once again, it's Royal Caribbean (NYSE: RCL) at the head of the pack in this fiscal regatta.

This isn't meant to discredit the inspiring comeback for the industry itself. Shares of Norwegian Cruise Line (NYSE: NCLH) may have plummeted 15% on Wednesday after posting mixed financial results , but the third-largest player in this space still joins its peers in raising its earnings guidance with forward bookings at an all-time high.  Carnival Corp. (NYSE: CCL) -- the top dog by revenue and fleet size -- set the proper bullish tone in late March with its update, as its fiscal year ends a month earlier than its smaller rivals.

It's just becoming clearer that Royal Caribbean is the class act for investors. Let's take a look at some of the reasons Royal Caribbean is a cut above Norwegian and Carnival.

1. Revenue growth matters

After several years of losses in the wake of the pandemic, all three cruise lines are now very profitable on a trailing basis. The operator recovery has become a pretty spectacular turnaround story on the bottom line, but let's literally start at the top. Here is how all three players held up in terms of revenue growth this season.

Royal Caribbean: Revenue up 29%

Carnival: Up 22%

Norwegian: Up 20%

All three managed to top 20% in revenue jumps for their latest quarter, but Royal Caribbean is clearly the faster vessel. Perhaps more importantly, Royal Caribbean is the only one of the three operators to beat analyst revenue targets. Carnival and Norwegian fell just shy of what Wall Street pros expected.

2. Margins matters

Royal Caribbean commands a higher enterprise value than Carnival -- $56.3 billion against $47.9 billion -- despite being the silver medalist in total revenue. A big reason for the premium investors are willing to pay for Royal Caribbean is how much better it is than the competition at milking more of its revenue to the bottom line.

Carnival's trailing bottom line is depressed because it was the last of the players to turn profitable, and its net margin over the last four quarters is an unflattering 1.8%. Norwegian is at 3.8%. Royal Caribbean is at 14.3%. It's not even close, and it's why the faster-growing Royal Caribbean is the one with the lowest trailing earnings multiple of 18. Norwegian is at 20, and Carnival is at a depressed 45.

This isn't just a matter of Royal Caribbean mastering the recovery process better than its fellow operators. Go back to 2018 and 2019 -- the last two years before the COVID-19 crisis rocked the business -- and Royal Caribbean was also leading the way then under more typical maritime conditions.

Source: S&P Global Market Intelligence .

3. Stock returns matters

Last year was great for shareholders of cruise line stocks . Royal Caribbean led the way with a blistering 162% jump in 2023. Carnival rose a healthy 130%, and even Norwegian was a strong absolute performer as it brought up the rear with its 64% increase.

A winner one year isn't likely to repeat the feat the following year, but let's check the tape so far in 2024 through the May 1 close:

Royal Caribbean is up 6%

Norwegian is down 20%

Carnival is down 22%

You already know Royal Caribbean has the lowest price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio despite its superior revenue growth, historically chunkier margins, and now its stronger recent capital appreciation. What happens going forward as Norwegian and Carnival take advantage of the higher ceiling for improvement?

Well, based on the midpoint of each company's guidance or analyst estimates for fiscal 2024, Royal Caribbean, Carnival, and Norwegian are trading for forward earnings multiples of 12.7, 14.4, and 12.2, respectively. Look out to next year, and all three are trading for less than 11 times what Wall Street pros are modeling.

Since they are all cheap, why wouldn't you go with the clear leader on nearly every front? Buy all three if you don't want to put all your ships in one fleet's basket, but don't be surprised if Royal Caribbean continues to be the one to deliver the largest gains.

A cruise to nowhere: Royal Caribbean sailing canceled after guests boarded

A Royal Caribbean International Alaska voyage became a cruise to nowhere over the weekend, with the line canceling the sailing after guests had already boarded.

The cruise line’s Radiance of the Seas ship experienced propulsion issues, forcing it to shorten and eventually scrap the weeklong itinerary, according to notices shared with guests. The sailing was originally set to depart from Vancouver on Friday.

Charlene Chong, who was on board with her husband, their 3-year and 11-month-old children, and her parents, said passengers were notified Saturday afternoon that the cruise was canceled. The 34-year-old teacher and her husband previously took a cruise for their honeymoon, but this marked their first trip with Royal Caribbean.

“My parents had wanted to go to Alaska for a really long time,” said Chong, who lives in Vancouver.

The cruise line warned guests several days before boarding that the ship had a “technical issue with its propulsion system,” according to an email sent to passengers that Chong shared with USA TODAY. The line later pushed the departure back by two days to allow more time for repairs.

Royal Caribbean said boarding would proceed as planned but that the terminal would close Friday evening due to U.S. Customs and Border Protection rules. Passengers would not be able to leave until the ship arrived at Icy Strait Point.

“We were going stir crazy a little bit,” said Chong.

Royal Caribbean gave guests onboard credit worth two days of their fare, a future cruise credit of the same amount, complimentary drinks and other compensation, another email said.

According to Chong, the ship sailed toward a nearby cargo port, but the captain announced Saturday afternoon that the sailing could not proceed and that guests would need to disembark by Sunday at 4 p.m. Chong said she and her family were “lucky” they were local, but she saw other guests scrambling to change their flights and find accommodations.

Your cruise was canceled: Now what?

“We understand the disappointment due to this unfortunate turn of events,” the cruise line said in a letter shared with guests. “We truly extend our sincerest apologies for the continued unforeseen disruptions to your vacation.”

Royal Caribbean gave them their money back as onboard credit with any remaining amount refunded, increased their future cruise credit to 100% of their fare and kept its open-bar policy for the remaining time on board. The line also offered to reimburse trip change fees up to $250 for guests traveling domestically and $400 for international travel and additional reimbursements for hotel and transportation costs, among other compensation.

“Due to a technical issue, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the April 26 sailing," a Royal Caribbean spokesperson said in an emailed statement. "Guests will receive a full refund and 100% future cruise credit, and have been notified directly.” The spokesperson did not comment on the specifics of Chong's experience.

The ship will resume service for its May 3 sailing.

After they got home, Chong and her family booked a trip to Mexico instead – though her parents decided not to join as they were “a bit exhausted by the whole ordeal.” For now, she’s not inclined to use the future cruise credit. “I would like to go to Alaska,” she said. “I'm not sure if I want to go with them.”
