But what can easily kill your mood is when you cannot hear the sound of the song or video that you are planning to watch. Luckily, we have compiled some solutions to fix no sound problem in the Safari on Mac.

1. Check if Your Currently Opened Tab Is Muted

The Mute Tab option allows you to instantly mute audio for any audio or video playing on that tab. So if you’ve muted a tab by mistake and forgotten about it, check the address bar in Safari.

2. Check the Volume Levels of Your Mac

Once you have unmuted your tab, the next step is to check the volume levels of your Mac. It is possible that you had muted your Mac’s volume and forgot to unmute it. You can bump the volume of your Mac from the top-right corner on the menu bar.

3. Check Output Source on Your Mac

If the first two steps have not solved the issue, it is time to take a deep dive. Even after unmuting the tab and bumping up the volume, you can’t hear anything then something else is amiss. By default, Mac uses the built-in speakers as a default output source. If you’ve connected earphones or external speakers, your Mac may not have switched the output source back to the internal speakers. However, you’ll need to check that from sound settings. Follow these steps.

Step 1:  Press Command + Spacebar to reveal Spotlight Search, type  System Preferences, and press Return.

How to Enable Safari Web Browser Audio on Your iPhone?

Are you having trouble getting audio to auto-play on your iPhone when using Safari? If so, you’re not alone! Many iPhone users have run into this issue. Fortunately, there are a few simple steps you can take to get audio to auto-play on Safari for iPhone.

First, open the Safari menu and select Settings for This Website. Then change the Auto-Play setting from Never Auto-Play or Stop Media with Sound to Allow All Auto-Play. Once that’s done, click away from the settings window to dismiss it and refresh the test window if necessary to reload the question and allow audio to play automatically.

On iPhones and iPads, it is not possible to mute a tab in Safari. Instead, only the open tab in the foreground can play sound. To mute this sound, you can either pause or mute using the website’s video or audio player controls or simply close the tab or mute your device.

If you want audio to auto-play in Safari on your iPhone, then head over to the Safari Preferences screen by selecting Safari and then ‘Preferences’ in the top left corner of your screen. Next, click on the ‘Websites’ tab and select ‘Auto-Play’ from the list on the left-hand side. Finally, select ‘Allow All Auto-Play’ from the drop-down list and you should be good to go!

We hope this guide was helpful in getting audio to auto-play on your iPhone when using Safari!

How to Enable Safari Web Browser Audio on Your iPhone? 1

Turning On Safari Audio on an iPhone

To turn on Safari audio on your iPhone, open the Safari app and navigate to the website where you want to listen to audio. Once you’re there, open the Safari menu and select ‘Settings for This Website’. From there, change the Auto-Play setting from ‘Never Auto-Play’ or ‘Stop Media with Sound’ to ‘Allow All Auto-Play’. Click away from the settings window to dismiss it and then refresh the window to reload the question and allow audio to play automatically. That’s it! You should now be able to hear the audio in Safari on your iPhone.

Turning Off Safari Audio on an iPhone

To turn off Safari audio on your iPhone, you can simply close the tab that is currently playing sound. Alternatively, you can pause or mute the video or audio player controls within the website itself. If neither of these methods is available, you can also mute your device using the volume buttons on the side of your iPhone.

Troubleshooting Audio Issues on Safari

The reason you may not be hearing audio on Safari is that it blocks audio content by default. In order to hear audio from a particular web page, you must enable auto-play for that website in the Safari preferences. To do this, open the Safari menu, select Preferences > Websites > Auto-Play, and then select ‘Allow All Auto-Play’. Once this is done, audio should be audible when browsing websites. If you continue to experience difficulties, check your sound settings to ensure that the system volume is turned up and that the correct output device is selected.

Troubleshooting No Sound on Safari on iPhone

It’s possible that the volume is turned down or muted, so check your Settings > Sounds (or Settings > Sounds & Haptics) to make sure the Ringer and Alerts slider is turned up. If that doesn’t work, it could be a hardware issue; try plugging in some headphones or speakers to see if they work instead. If the sound still isn’t working, your speaker may need to be serviced.

Enabling Audio and Video on Safari

To enable audio and video on Safari, you will need to open Safari and go to the Settings page. Once there, click on the Websites tab. You will then see a list of options related to audio and video playback. Select the option “Allow All Auto-Play” to enable all videos with sound to autoplay. Alternatively, you can select the option “Stop Media with Sound” if you only want videos without audio to autoplay. Finally, if you don’t want any videos to autoplay, select the option “Never Auto-Play”.

In conclusion, Safari on iPhone and iPad blocks audio content by default. In order to hear audio from a particular web page, users will need to manually enable auto-play for that website in the Safari preferences. This is done by opening the Safari menu and selecting Settings for This Website…, then changing the Auto-Play setting from Never Auto-Play or Stop Media with Sound to Allow All Auto-Play. On iPhone or iPad, it is not possible to mute a tab in Safari. The only option for muting sound is to pause or mute using the website’s video or audio player controls, or simply close the tab or mute your device.

Why would an MP3 play in Safari but not Chrome?

I've tried playing an MP3 on two MacBooks in Google Chrome and have had no luck in playing it in the browser; I have no issues in Safari. In Chrome, the audio player controls load, but the actual audio file never loads. Looking at the HTTP requests/responses, I noticed that the MP3 returns a 200, 206, and a final 200 code in Chrome. In Safari, I just get a single 200.

An important point is that none of the MP3s served from this site load or play in Chrome. I have no problem playing MP3s from other sites.

Again, this is the MP3: http://nyc.podcast.play.it/media/d0/d0/d0/dW/dT/d7/d5/WT75_3.MP3

We had a similar problem on a MP3 file playing in Safari, but not under Chrome (10).

Interesting enough, the solution was, believe it or not, in the time stamp of the file, which was in future (due to our recording script) for files being not playable for Chrome. So as soon as we modified the time stamp on the MP3 to the current/past time the MP3 file played well in Chrome as well.

Tools at hand, curl:

... and to check the validity of the MP3 file (mp3check, part of Debian package directory):

I have mp3s playing fine in Chrome 9 on OSX 10.6.6. My code is:

You could also try preload="auto". By the way, I use jPlayer as it provides an automatic Flash fallback (which isn't used in this example on Chrome).

@Jeff, you are mistaken. Safari, Chrome and IE9 play mp3s natively. See: http://html5doctor.com/native-audio-in-the-browser/

  • @user43346, that’s what I thought, but I keep getting a Save As dialog instead. –  Synetech Mar 4, 2011 at 2:23

Have you tried downloading and then listening to the MP3? If that works the issue could very well be related to the plug-in you're using to play MP3 files might need to be reinstalled.

  • The issue isn't with the MP3, because it plays in Safari. And I'm not using a plugin, I'm attempting to load it directly using the browser's native functionality. –  mshafrir Feb 11, 2011 at 17:00
  • @lupefiasco Maybe I'm mistaken but no browser natively play's MP3's they require some external program to do that. Are you sure it's not using Quicktime? –  Jeff Bolduan Feb 11, 2011 at 17:11
  • that’s strange, I could have sworn I have been able to play MP3 in Chrome because of its HTML5 support, but now when I click on one, I get a Save As dialog. Maybe I’m thinking of OGG files… –  Synetech Mar 4, 2011 at 2:15

How to fix audio issues in macOS

Tyler Lacoma

If you have been particularly bugged by sound problems ever since upgrading to the latest version of macOS, this is the place to be. Let’s go through the most common macOS audio problems and show you how a little tinkering with settings can typically set things right.

  • Audio/sound features don’t work at all

Sound cuts in and out

Safari sound no longer works, static problem, reminder about macos updates.

  • 5 reasons your MacBook keeps restarting and how to fix it
  • Common MacOS problems and how to fix them

  • How to download MacOS Catalina

Audio/sound features don’t work at all

This is for those of you who gladly upgraded but then found that your audio had cut out completely. In this case, you get no sound at all from the speakers that you were using before the upgrade. It doesn’t matter what video or app you pull up; you get nothing. You might have tried to adjust volume controls, unplugged your speakers and plugged them back in, and tried to play media on a different device, but nothing seems to work.

When macOS first boots up, it sometimes does strange things when assigning speaker outputs, which can lead to radio silence. Fortunately, this problem is easy to fix. Open the System Settings app in the Dock or from the Apple icon in the menu bar, then click Sound in the sidebar. Here, you will see a tab called Output . In this tab, you should see options for choosing a sound device. Try setting the sound to Internal Speakers (the name of the speakers might reflect your device, such as MacBook Pro Speakers ). While you are at it, take a look at the volume bar below and make sure that your output volume is turned up and Mute is unchecked. At the top of the window, ensure Play sound effects through is also set to your device’s speakers.

This should restore audio to your native Mac speakers. “What about my headphones , external speakers, or Apple TV?” you may be asking. In the Output list, you should see options for all these devices, as long as they are connected. Choose the one that you want to use. As you may have guessed by now, macOS — especially when it is loaded onto a computer that’s connected to HDMI speaker systems — can get confused about which speaker to automatically pick. Pick out your speaker options manually to circumvent this issue. You should only need to do this once, as macOS should remember your choice.

This can be one of the most frustrating issues to experience. If macOS is randomly cutting out the audio and then restoring it without rhyme or reason, there could be something wrong with how your computer is using memory. First, make sure the problem can’t be narrowed down to any particular app or service. You can check which apps are hogging your memory by opening Activity Monitor , then selecting the %CPU column. Make sure the arrow next to %CPU is facing down — this will show your most memory-hungry apps at the top. Try restarting that particular app by selecting it, then choosing the Stop button at the top of Activity Monitor to see if your audio recovers.

If the problem is shared across all audio sources, it might be time to reset your parameter random-access memory (PRAM), which Intel-based Macs use to retrieve basic settings for your Mac and connected devices. Note that this does not apply to Apple silicon Macs, since they don’t have a way to do this. If you’re using an Apple silicon Mac, try shutting it down, waiting a few seconds, then booting it up again.

If your Mac has an Intel chip and you want to reset its PRAM, begin by restarting your Mac, then immediately press the Option  +  Command +   P +   R keys simultaneously. Keep holding those four keys down for about 20 seconds. During that time, your Mac might restart and you might hear the startup sound play more than once. After that, your PRAM should have been reset.

Keep in mind that a PRAM reset may also change some of your other settings in addition to rebooting your sound. You may need to spend some time in System Settings to reset any of the customized settings you had before.

If your tests have revealed that sound problems are primarily located in Safari, this may be another settings problem. In this case, the sound will probably work in other browsers like Chrome but not in Safari.

This problem is typically caused by a strange configuration change that macOS applies to sound output if you have certain software loaded onto your Mac. If you visit System Settings > Sound , you can check on your Output option, which will likely list several device options for audio output. If one of those options is Soundflower or something similarly unusual, then that’s a sign that macOS might be using the wrong sound output. Switch the output to Internal Speakers or another speaker device of your choice, then try Safari again. The problem should have been resolved.

Depending on your setup, you may find this audio problem occurs every time you restart your computer. You can stop the problem by uninstalling the Soundflower extension on your Mac.

Are you hearing random crackling, popping, or other annoying static-like noises coming from your speakers ever since downloading macOS? If you are using external speakers, check their connections and try them on another device, like a smartphone , to make sure it isn’t the wiring. If the problem seems to be macOS, it’s time to visit settings again.

The first step is to open System Settings and look for the Sound icon, which looks like a speaker cone. Under the Sound Effects section, you’ll see a list of options and settings. You’ll find a box labeled Play feedback when volume is changed at the bottom of the section.

You’ll need to toggle the box to the off position if it isn’t already and then activate it again. If that doesn’t help, make sure you check that the output option is either Internal Speakers or any external device you’re listening on. Apple’s macOS has a reputation for being finicky when it comes to Bluetooth devices. Some devices pair with no issue and some don’t at all. Static results from being stuck in the middle ground. You have a connected, paired device, but the audio quality is awful.

Sometimes it’s just a matter of turning off both your Mac and the Bluetooth device, then restarting them both to wipe the static slate clean. You can also delete your Bluetooth connection under Bluetooth settings in System Settings and then pair the device again as if it were new.

Some devices simply won’t work with macOS. You can test to see if the issue is with the age of the Bluetooth device you’re using by seeing if you can successfully connect a newer Bluetooth device to your Mac. If there’s no problem with the new product, you might need to upgrade your device.

If you are a veteran macOS or Apple user, chances are that you have had to deal with the time-consuming nature of repairing kinks that come with updating Apple apps. If you still experience macOS sound problems, AirPlay issues, or other audio complications, make sure you update your Mac to the latest version. You might have to wait for Apple to release patches that fix these problems, but in the meantime, you can search the help topics to see if anyone has found a workaround while waiting for the patch.

Annoying Audio Playing in Safari? Here’s How to Find and Mute Noisy Safari Tabs

Is there anything more annoying than a noisy ad hidden in one of your tabs? Well, Safari makes it easy to track down and mute annoying sounds.

Opening multiple tabs is a handy feature in browsers like Safari, allowing you to view multiple webpages in a single window. This provides for a smoother web browsing experience and helps reduce desktop clutter. However, unwanted audio may suddenly begin playing from one of the tabs, disrupting your workflow with the current tab you’re on.

This may make you manually check each tab to look for the culprit. But there are several ways to efficiently manage audio in Safari tabs without the need to check them one by one.

How to Know If Which Safari Tab Is Playing Audio

It can be downright frustrating to go to each tab one by one just to find that single tab playing audio. In the past, you even needed to scroll down through the webpage to find the random ad or video that automatically played. However, browsers now make it easier for you to know if the current tab you’re viewing is playing audio or not.

Related: How to Quickly Access Sites in Safari on a Mac Using Pinned Tab

In Safari, simply look for the Audio button in the Smart Search field. If the icon is in solid blue with sound waves, then the current tab is playing audio. Otherwise, the audio button will appear gray with no sound waves.

To check other tabs, look for an audio icon in the tab bar to see which ones are playing audio.

How to Mute Tab Audio

There are several ways to mute tabs playing audio in Safari.

Mute Audio From the Current Tab

If the audio is on the tab you’re currently viewing, simply click the Audio button . You should see Mute This Tab on the Smart Search field as you hover your mouse over the Audio button . Just click the button again to unmute it.

Mute Audio From Other Tabs

If audio is playing simultaneously from different tabs, and you want to mute all the other audio except the audio from the tab you’re currently viewing, simply Option-click the Audio button in the Smart Search field from your current tab. A Mute Other Tabs message should appear in the Smart Search field. Alternatively, you can Control-click the Audio button, then click Mute Other Tabs .

On the other hand, if you’re on a tab that is not playing audio, and you want to mute audio from other tabs, simply click the Audio button to automatically mute the audio from all other tabs.

Manually Mute Audio From Tabs

You also have the option to manually mute audio from each tab. If a tab is playing audio, an Audio button should appear on the right side of that tab. Just click this button to mute the tab manually. You can also Control-click the Audio button and select Mute This Tab .

How to See Websites Currently Playing Audio

If you have multiple tabs opened and you want to see the tabs that are currently playing audio, go to the Smart Search field, then click and hold the Audio button . A popup menu will appear, listing the websites that are playing audio. Click one of these websites to go to the tab where audio is currently playing.

Aside from the list, the popup menu will also give you other options, like Mute Other Tabs and Mute This Tab , if the tab you’re on is playing audio. You can also choose Enter Picture in Picture if the audio playing is from a video.

Quickly Mute Unwanted Sound

Opening multiple tabs is a great way to manage our online workflows better, reduce desktop clutter, and keep important websites within reach. However, a common cause of annoyance with having multiple tabs open is when audio automatically plays from a particular tab.

With Safari, you can easily find, manage, and mute audio from your tabs. You can even manually mute them or mute all of them with just one click.

Social Media Reacts To Washington Commanders Drafting Jayden Daniels No. 2 Overall

Commanders fans have plenty of reasons to sound off on the opening night of the NFL Draft.

  • Author: David Harrison

In this story:

The Washington Commanders have secured their quarterback of the future. With the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Commanders decided to select former LSU star and Heisman Trophy winner, Jayden Daniels. While this pick has been highly-anticipated over the last couple of weeks, it's finally official.

Daniels is coming off a stellar collegiate career where he gashed defenses with his arm and his legs. He's a true dual-threat and has the potential to develop into a dynamic signal-caller at the professional level. Daniels was at his best during his final campaign in Baton Rouge, completing 236/327 passes for 3,812 yards with 40 touchdowns to four interceptions while rushing 135 times for 1,134 yards and ten more scores.

Outside of his Heisman Trophy, Daniels was the SEC offensive player of the year and a consensus All-American. He also won the Walter Camp Award, Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, Davey O'Brien Award, Manning Award, and was named the AP College Football Player of the Year.

With a new head coach and quarterback to root for in the coming years, Commanders fans had plenty of reasons to beat their chest on the opening night of what could be a productive draft.

Check out some of their reactions below.

A new independent review has found Israel provided no evidence for its claim that 10% of staff in a United Nations aid agency called UNRWA have ties to terrorist organizations. UNRWA provides assistance to Palestinian refugees.

The report recommends ways the agency can improve neutrality, as a separate review is underway into allegations that 12 of its workers were involved in the Oct. 7 Hamas-led attack on Israel.

I would start by resetting all of your settings on your device. Do keep in mind that this reverts all of your settings to the way they were out of the box.

The Mac guide for autoplay was provided due to the post being in a discussion for Safari on Mac.

Do you mind providing what content is not autoplaying? There are some websites/media websites that disable autoplay themselves for the browser i.e. YouTube.

It is pretty much factory settings already but there are other people that have the same problem, iOS changed some things on the iOS 13 update and things that have sound start right away it mutes it for no reason even YouTube had to change there browser edition so it wouldn’t be messed up is there a setting that I can change to fix my audio problem on my game.

It’s called eclipse and it’s a classic gb,gbc, gba, and nes emulator and the sound used to work until iOS 13 when they blocked auto play sound on iOS.

And I know it’s not my settings because I ran it on my device when it was reset a while ago.

Software file converters: How they work and why you need them

safari audio not playing

  • By BetaNews Staff

safari audio not playing

In today's digital world, we deal with a vast array of file formats daily, from documents and images to videos and audio files. However, not all software or devices can open every document type, leading to compatibility issues. This is where file converter software comes into play, making our digital lives more convenient and efficient.

A file converter is a tool that allows you to convert one format into another. It acts as a digital translator, ensuring that your documents can be opened and used across different platforms, devices, and software applications. Whether you need to convert a Word document to PDF, an image from JPEG to PNG, or a video from AVI to MP4, a file converter software can handle the task seamlessly.

How Does Document Conversion Work?

The converters of files work by analyzing the structure and encoding of the source data and then repackaging them into the desired output format. This process involves decoding the original document, extracting its contents, and then encoding the information into a new structure that complies with the target format's specifications.

The file conversion process can vary in complexity depending on the document types involved and the conversion settings you choose. Some conversions may be straightforward, while others may require more advanced algorithms and processing power, affecting the conversion speed.

Why You Need Converting Software

1. compatibility across platforms and devices.

With the wide array of software, operating systems, and devices in use today, document compatibility can be a significant challenge. A converter of files ensures that you can seamlessly transfer and access your files across different platforms, whether you're working on a Windows PC with a file converter for Windows, a Mac, a smartphone, or a tablet.

2. Efficient Document Sharing and Collaboration

In collaborative environments, team members may use different software or have varying format preferences. A converting program allows you to transform documents, images, or other files into formats that are compatible with your colleagues' or clients' systems, facilitating seamless sharing and collaboration.

3. Archiving and Long-Term Storage

Certain formats may become obsolete or unsupported over time. By converting your files to more widely accepted and future-proof formats, you can ensure their longevity and accessibility for years to come.

4. Space Optimization

Some formats, such as uncompressed images or videos, can take up significant storage space. Converters of files can help you compress them into more space-efficient formats, freeing up valuable storage on your devices or cloud storage services.

5. Preservation of Data Integrity

A converting software ensures that your files retain their original quality and integrity throughout the conversion process. Whether you're converting documents, images, videos, or audio files, maintaining data integrity, especially sensitive data , is crucial to avoid any loss or corruption of information.

6. Enhanced Accessibility

File converter software enables you to access your documents from anywhere, at any time, on any device. Whether you're at home, in the office, or on the go, having the ability to convert files to compatible formats ensures seamless access to your data whenever you need it.

7. Compliance with Industry Standards

In certain industries, specific formats may be required to comply with regulatory standards or industry guidelines. A converting program allows you to convert your files to the required formats, ensuring compliance and avoiding potential issues with regulatory authorities.

8. Streamlined Multimedia Experience

With converters of documents, you can optimize your multimedia experience by converting audio and video files to formats that are compatible with your preferred media players or devices. Whether you're listening to music, watching videos, or creating multimedia presentations, the software ensures a seamless playback experience.

9. Time and Cost Savings

By eliminating compatibility issues and streamlining file sharing and collaboration processes, the software saves you time and money. Instead of spending hours troubleshooting format errors or investing in expensive software licenses, you can convert documents without spending a fortune.

Key Features to Look for in a File Converter Software

When choosing a converting program, consider the following features:

  • Wide range of supported formats (input and output)
  • Batch conversion capabilities for multiple files
  • Conversion quality and customizable settings
  • User-friendly interface and easy-to-use tools
  • Secure and safe document conversion process
  • Fast speed of conversion
  • Compatible with your operating system and devices

In conclusion, a safe file converter is an indispensable tool in today's digital landscape, bridging the gap between different formats and ensuring seamless compatibility across platforms and devices. By understanding how conversion of files works and leveraging the right software, you can streamline your workflow, enhance collaboration, and future-proof your digital assets.
