  • Davide B 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Nice cruise on the Nile It was a very pleasant way to spend a week on the Nile and discover the history of one of the greatest civilizations. Our representative Mirna at Sheba Tours was very communicative and made sure to text us in the morning and in the evening to confirm the schedule and to make sure that everything was going as planned. She went out of her way to address the few issues we encountered. She deserves 5 stars out of 5. The cruise itself was lovely and relaxing. The ship (“Victoria” aka “Ra I”) looks a bit outdated, but the crew members were nice (though they mostly spoke little English), the food was good, and the cabin pretty comfortable. WiFi was a major issue, as it was not working most of the times and it was unreliable when it was indeed “working.” So bring a book or two to enjoy on the sun deck while taking in the breathtaking sunsets. I can’t rate it 5 stars because of the tours that were included in the package, with some of them requiring an early wake up call just to be done by lunchtime and without anything else to do for the rest of the day. But the worst part were the tour guides… a literal torture (we had 4 of them over 8 days). None of them spoke good English, they mostly gave us basic information, they were very pushy in regard to reviews and tips, and some of them were shady about money (one kept asking us to give him cash so we could skip the line… no one was in line to buy tickets). And the tour of Abu Simbel was shameful: 4 hours to get there, 4 hours to get back… and only 20 minutes inside the most beautiful of all Egyptian temples. Make sure to communicate with the agency so they can accommodate your interests. Maybe we were just unlucky, but the selection of the guides needs some improvement. I would recommend this package based on the fair price and the overall experience. Read more Written January 16, 2024
  • Ed R 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles We're from the Moon! We really enjoyed this trip. It was very worthwhile, despite being a lot of travelling to get there and back from our hotel in Hurghada. The drive there was an interesting insight through the desert and small farms closer to Luxor. Mimo, our tour guide was excellent. His insights into all of the temples that we visited were explained very clearly. We could not have asked for a better tour guide. 100%. It was a long day with lots of information taken in,so be sure to bring plenty of extra snacks and water. Be prepared for the constant hustle from locals along the way. If they ask where you're from, just say 'the moon', and they'll leave you alone! (It worked for us every time!🙂) Read more Written January 12, 2024

During your boat ride, you will witness also the island where Lord Kitchener’s Botanical Gardens are located. It’s  peaceful paradise, full of shady trees, beautiful flowers and unusual plants. The relocation of the temples was a historic event in the 1960's. At that time, the temples were threatened by submersion in Lake Nasser when the High Dam was constructed. The Egyptian government with the support of UNESCO launched a world wide appeal to save these colossal landmarks. They were successfully dismantled and relocated to a spot 60 meters above the cliff where they had been initially built. The more famous of the two temples is dedicated to Ramses II and the smaller one to his favorite wife Nefertari . They were both built by Ramses II in the 13th century BC.

The Kom Ombo temple has two entrances, two courts, two colonnades, two Hypostyle halls and two sanctuaries, one side for each god, The Southern part for the Falcon god "Haroeris ", while the northern part for the Crocodile god "Sobek ". The reliefs showing the medical tools (surgical instruments) is among the most intriguing features of the temple. It can be found in the building’s rear, in the passageway that surrounds the main area.. At the time the relief was carved, Egyptian medical science was almost certainly the most advanced in the world.

  • Peak season brings more tourists, but if that’s your only option, be prepared for the crowds.
  • Summer months in Egypt can be scorching hot, so consider that if you’re particularly heat sensitive.

When planning your trip to Egypt, consider attending major festivals like Ramadan or national holidays, which can impact opening hours and crowd levels at popular attractions.

To help you, I’ve created a guide covering everything you need to know while Visiting Egypt During Ramadan: Insider Guide to Celebration .

Before embarking on your Egyptian adventure, it’s essential to understand the visa requirements and travel costs. Check the visa requirements for your nationality well in advance. As for the trip to Egypt cost is relatively affordable compared to other popular destinations. You can expect to spend around $50-$100 per day for a mid-range traveler, including accommodation, food, transportation, and entry fees to major attractions. Planning a trip to Egypt can raise a lot of questions, so we’ve compiled some frequently asked questions to help you prepare for your journey.

Egypt is generally safe for tourists, especially when traveling with a reputable tour company or guide. However, it’s always important to exercise caution, be aware of your surroundings, and follow the advice of local authorities.

For long-distance travel, consider taking domestic flights or booking a Nile River cruise. Within cities, taxis and public transportation are affordable and convenient options. Hiring a private driver or tour guide can also make navigating Egypt more comfortable.

While it’s possible to explore some sites independently, booking guided tours in advance can provide invaluable insights and ensure a smoother experience. Guided tours are highly recommended for complex sites like the pyramids, Valley of the Kings, and ancient temples.

It’s important to dress modestly when visiting religious sites or Islamic mosques. Opt for lightweight, loose-fitting clothing that covers your shoulders and knees. Women may also want to carry a scarf to cover their heads when entering mosques.

No specific vaccinations are required for most travelers, but it’s always a good idea to consult with your healthcare provider before your trip. Ensure your routine vaccinations are up-to-date, and consider getting vaccinated against hepatitis A and typhoid fever. Bringing insect repellent and staying hydrated are also recommended.

Yes, most nationalities require a visa to visit Egypt. However, the process is relatively straightforward, and there are a couple of ways to obtain one:

Visa on Arrival: Citizens of many countries can obtain a visa upon arrival at Egypt’s international airports. The process involves filling out a form, paying a fee (typically around $25 USD, payable in cash), and having a passport valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay.

E-Visa: For added convenience, many nationalities can apply for an e-Visa in advance through the official Egyptian government portal ([invalid URL removed]). The process is entirely online and typically takes a few days for approval.

Important Notes:

Specific Requirements:  Always double-check the visa requirements for your specific nationality, as there may be variations. Some countries may have additional requirements or longer processing times.

Visa Validity:  The most common tourist visa for Egypt is valid for 30 days. If you plan to stay longer, consider applying for a multiple-entry visa or inquire about visa extensions upon arrival.

Resources:  For official visa information and updates, visit the Egyptian government website or consult your nearest Egyptian embassy or consulate.

By following this expert Egypt travel guide, you’ll be equipped with the knowledge and insider tips to plan an extraordinary journey through Cairo and the heart of ancient Egyptian civilization, Nile.

Egypt promises to leave a lasting impression and will surely capture your heart. So, pack your sense of adventure, embrace the rich culture, and embark on a once-in-a-lifetime journey to this bucket list-worthy destination.
