Sharjah Safari

A new world-class tourist destination, Sharjah Safari is the new spot for all adventure lovers.

Experience real adventure in the largest safari in the world outside Africa, and enjoy an adventure that takes you to the jungles, here in Sharjah

Sharjah Safari

A new tourist destination, inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, on February 17, 2022, Sharjah Safari is the new spot for all adventure lovers. A picturesque place nestled in the lap of nature, Sharjah Safari constitutes a rare opportunity for tourists and visitors to observe the endemic wildlife in Africa. Native African faunae roam without fences, in an environment similar to their natural environment. Sharjah Safari is host to more than 120 species of animals, which live in Africa and up to 50,000 animals, ranging from birds, reptiles and mammals; such as lions, elephants, giraffes, black and white rhinoceros, crocodiles, deer, bulls and many other endangered animals.

12 different environments, inspired by all parts of Africa, represent the life and terrain of the continent, and the animals and birds that live in it. Sharjah Safari contains several areas that simulate the real regions of Africa, and the first area, "To Africa", takes visitors on a unique walking experience to explore the wildlife endemic to the islands and archipelagos scattered along the eastern coast of Africa in the Indian Ocean. The second region, the Sahel, is represented by deserts, pastures and diverse wildlife. It extends in Africa from the Atlantic coast of Mauritania in the west to Eritrea and the Red Sea in the east, and is a transitional area rich in wildlife between the Sahara Desert in the north and the Savannah to the south.

The third region, the Savannah, extends in eastern and southern Africa from the coast in the north to the Kalahari in the southwest. This African tropical grassland covers half the area of the African continent and is home to the largest concentration of biodiversity on Earth. While the fourth region, the Serengeti, celebrates the largest migration of animals in the world every year, as large groups of herbivores migrate across the Serengeti plains, and works to attract predators and animals that feed on carrion, crossing the Mara River, where Nile crocodiles lie in the murky waters, a dangerous predator to migratory herbivores.

The fifth region, Nkorongoro, formed from an extinct crater, is a unique ecosystem and home to some of Africa's most famous species. While the sixth region, Moremi, is inspired by the canyons and valleys of southwest Africa that were formed over centuries by heavy monsoon rains, and these dry and sandy riverbeds contain aquifers that support life throughout the dry season.

Plan a trip with the family to Sharjah Safari – dubbed the world’s largest safari park outside of Africa. At this 8,000-hectare park, you’ll get to experience a litany of fascinating and exotic species, such as giraffes, lions and even a black rhinoceros! Located in Al Bridi Nature Reserve in Al Dhaid, Sharjah, this staggeringly huge park whisks you away to an Africa-like landscape and showcases the diversity and richness of the continent’s wildlife. So, without further ado, let us tell you everything there is to know about this spectacular safari park.

ABOUT THE PARK

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Bayut.com (@bayutuae)

Sharjah Safari is home to over 1,000 animals and birds across a range of 120 species, including lions, gazelles, elephants, crocodiles and many rare African animals. Particular highlights include the extremely rare black rhino, and Wuhaida, a female southern white rhino born at the park.

Aside from the truly amazing array of wildlife, there are also over 1,000 native and African trees planted on the land, including beautiful Samar trees, and the iconic Acacia tortilis – famous for it’s striking umbrella-like shape. The majestic landscape of the park, which covers an astonishing eight square kilometres, really is a sight to behold.

Sharjah Safari Park is also home to a large and beautiful natural lake, which is encircled by various cafes, restaurants, a conference hall, a safari visitor’s tent and other impressive amenities. All in all, it’s a good alternative to Dubai Safari Park .

REGIONS IN THE PARK

There are 12 environments in the park to explore, each depicting a distinct African location and the lives of the native animals and birds. Here are some highlights of the various areas in Sharjah Safari Park Al Dhaid:

  • The first component of the park’s walking tour allows visitors to experience an eclectic array of African birds as they stroll down Baobab Avenue.
  • The next stop is the vibrant Zanzibar village, where guests can tuck into tasty eats in an authentic African setting before embarking on their wild safari.
  • Sahel, the second major region in Sharjah Safari Park, is home to deserts, grasslands and a vast range of fauna. It depicts Africa’s vast wildlife-rich corridor between the Sahara Desert and Savannah regions.
  • Only visitors in luxury automobiles continue their trek to the third zone, Savannah. This area is home to a fascinating array of spieces, including the Scimitar Oryx and Dorcas Gazelle.
  • The Serengeti settlement is the next stop. Note that this part of the trip is not for the faint of heart, as only the courageous can take selfies with the Serengeti Lion hidden behind glass. Visitors to the Serengeti will also be able to observe one of Earth’s oldest and most resilient animal species, the mighty crocodile!
  • The last region of the tour is Moremi village, where friendly animals will come across your path and say their goodbyes.

Visitors who want to spend more time in the park’s glorious outdoors before leaving can stay at the safari camp.

It’s also home to around 1000 animals and birds, including giraffes, wildebeest, lions, elephants, flamingos, rhinos, and crocodiles, among 120 species. Meanwhile, over 1000 indigenous and African trees offer all the required greenery and vegetation for the animals and flora to thrive.

Consider Taking A Walking Tour

To provide the most genuine experience possible, the park is divided into 12 habitats, each of which is designed to represent a different African region.

Bronze tickets cost Dhs40 for over 12s (Dhs15 for children aged three to 12) and allow you to take a two-to-three-hour walking tour of the Africa zone.

Take A Bus Tour

If walking isn’t your thing, a silver ticket (Dhs120 for those over 12 and Dhs50 for those aged three to 12) can get you on a bus trip that will take you around all the zones save the “Serengeti” in about five hours.

Giraffe & White Rhino

The park contains a separate area dedicated to giraffes, 15 of which were released into the wild and have subsequently adapted to safari life. Bridi, the first African female giraffe born at Sharjah Safari, is the star of the show (and the giraffe everyone wants to see)

However, Bridi does not receive all the focus. When Wuhaida, a southern white rhino, was born in Sharjah Safari’s breeding programme last August, she was the first of her endangered species to be born there.

The Savannah area at Sharjah Safari Park is based on the same one found in Africa; it stretches from the seashore in the north to Kalhari in the south in eastern and Southern Africa.

It’s one of the most visited tropical destinations on the planet. If you enjoy the outdoors, this site is a must-see. Furthermore, it is surrounded by African grassland, which is an incredible sight to see.

Savannah also has the most biodiversity on the planet, so you can expect nothing but a wonderful adventure there.

Last but not least, the Moremi area is influenced by Africa’s southwest region’s spectacular canyons and valleys, which have been shaped over time by monsoon rains.

You may also see the gorgeous yellow giraffes here. Prepare to have an incredible time in this hidden gem, and don’t forget to snap plenty of photos.

Relax and refuel

Visits to the park are only going to get better, owing to a large natural lake that will be flanked by cafes and restaurants, as well as a conference hall and visitor’s camp, great for replenishing after all the excitement. (see also info about Dubai Miracle Garden )

Top five places to see wildlife in the UAE, from Sharjah Safari to Dubai Safari Park

Now, you can see and even interact with wild animals at a number of places in the emirates, sharjah safari opens its doors.

Sharjah Safari opens its doors

This week, the sprawling Sharjah Safari joined the UAE's growing list of attractions where visitors can get up close and personal with wildlife, including some rare and endangered species.

The 800-hectare park in Al Dhaid, about 49 kilometres from the Sharjah city, has been seven years in the making.

“This safari is authentic. When you drive around early morning or late in the afternoon, you forget you are in the UAE — it feels as if you are in Africa," Kevin Budd, the operations manager for animals at Sharjah Safari told The National , on its opening day.

Here are the top places to see wildlife in the UAE:

The UAE's latest wildlife attraction was designed to replicate a real African safari. Across 12 environments, each representing a region in Africa, visitors will be able to experience the life and terrain of the animals and birds that live in them.

Currently, about 600 animals including lions, giraffes and rhinos call the Sharjah Safari home, with about 300 more expected to arrive later this month and in March. One of the star attractions is Wuhaida, the first female southern white rhino born in Sharjah Safari in August last year. Wuhaida's birth is the result of the safari's breeding programme, supported by the UN, that focuses on African native species.

Visitors will also be able to meet Bridi, the first African female giraffe born in Sharjah Safari. Both Wuhaida and Bridi's parents arrived at the Sharjah Safari in May 2017.

Conservation is also an important aspect of Sharjah Safari's operations. Through the emirate's Environment and Protected Areas Authority, which help develop the park, the attraction will become a centre for international captive breeding programmes for key species, and will partner with the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria.

Open daily, 8.30am-6.30pm; tickets are from Dh15 for children and Dh40 for adults for a guided Bronze walking tour and go all the way up to Dh3,500 for a group of 12 people in a luxury car in the Gold category; 06 803 7666

Home to more than 3,000 animals, the 119-hectare attraction in Al Warqa first opened its doors in 2017, but closed six months later to “enhance the visitor experience”. If finally reopened in 2020 under a new management with a focus on conservation, education and sustainability.

Spread across five different zones — Africa, Asia, Arabian Desert Safari, Explorer and Adventure Village — Dubai Safari Park is made up of vast green spaces surrounded by waterfalls and artificial rock faces, and plenty of spaces for its main inhabitants. A drive-through safari, with a bus carrying guests through a series of gated enclosures, is also available.

Located in Al Qana , a new waterfront destination in the capital, The National Aquarium Abu Dhabi is the largest aquarium in the Middle East, spanning more than 9,000 square metres, and home to 46,000 creatures and 300 species.

Opened in November last year, the attraction is divided into 10 zones: the UAE’s Natural Treasures, Red Sea Wreck, Atlantic Cave, The Sub, Ring of Fire, Ocean Magic, Frozen Ocean, Flooded Forest, Bu Tinah Island and Back of House.

One of the most popular zones is the Flooded Forest where visitors can find the super snake, a female reticulated python aged 14 that weighs 115 kilograms. The area also has more than 8,000 rainforest creatures, including free-roaming birds that fly around and yet don't go near guests.

Rehabilitation and conservation is also a priority. In July 2020, the aquarium signed a five-year partnership with The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi, “with the aim to help create the largest and most innovative rehabilitation schemes of its kind to protect and rehabilitate wildlife in the emirate of Abu Dhabi".

"The partnership has resulted in a large number of animals saved, including 200 turtles being successfully rescued and released until today," said Paul Hamilton, general manager of The National Aquarium.

The vast area of Sharjah Safari Park is stunning, stretching for 8 kilometers, which explains why it contains so many activities. It’s divided into numerous themed settings representing various areas of Africa with their characteristics, creatures, and landscape. Not only that, the Sharjah Safari Park has species from all over the world which adds to the excitement. That’s when it gets exciting. This is where the fun begins!

Enjoy the view of more than 120 different Species

Seeing the fantastic animals is your main reason for visiting, right? Marvel in awe at the sheer size of the park and the wild animals within it. At around 800 hectares, the park is vast (2.5 times the size of Central Park, if you’re looking for scale). It’s also home to more than 1000 animals and birds, with 120 species represented, including giraffes, gazelles, lions, elephants, flamingos, rhinos, and crocodiles. Over 1000 local and African trees provide all the necessary greenery and vegetation for the fauna and flora to thrive. You can walk along the 12 different areas in the zoo and enjoy the lovely views.

Don’t worry if walking isn’t your thing; a silver ticket will get you on a bus tour where you’ll see all zones except the “Serengeti” over the course of five hours or so. If you want a more personal encounter, consider purchasing gold tickets, which allow you to explore the 12 habitats in a private vehicle with a guide who can answer any questions you might have about these incredible species.

Watch the birds soar above you

There are several reasons why bird watching may be enjoyable. It may be soothing to view birds flying about. Learning about the many kinds of birds and their behaviors is also fascinating. Finally, going out into nature and breathing fresh air is always good! This safari park has specific bird-watching areas, so birders will have plenty of opportunities to observe species in flight.

Refuel and start over

Islamic Botanical Garden

Discover the most lovely gardens in regions covered with plants you’ve never seen before when you take a trip to one of the region’s most exotic natural destinations, the Islamic Botanical Garden. This lovely verdant garden is a paradise for plants mentioned in the Holy Qur’an and prophetic Sunnah, as well as a beautiful green space made up of nearly 100 different plants, including figs, pomegranates, and saffron. This is a fantastic place for your youngsters and a more interactive approach to learning about the exhibits that explain the Qur’an’s references to plants, Hadith, and Sunnah. The gardens aim to inspire meditation with paved pathways, ornamental pools, and tiny canals that are reminiscent of traditional aflaj (irrigation channels).

The gardens are a botanical wonderland that you can explore. Each exhibit is labeled in both Arabic and English. The garden also includes intelligent screens that offer an overview of each plant’s characteristics, uses, benefits, and other information. There’s also a café with Arab cuisine grown in the garden’s produce, where you can enjoy refueling in a traditional style! The Islamic Botanical Garden includes a library with books on a wide range of foliage for visitors to read and analyze. On the site, there is also an educational room where you can gain a deeper insight.

Fun fact: In collaboration with UNESCO, botanists spent three years collecting the plants. The Islamic Botanical Garden contains many flowering and fruit-bearing plants for visitors to see. The garden includes a variety of both indoor and outdoor species. Other species were cultivated from seeds or brought from all over the world from different locations.

Children’s Farm at Sharjah Zoo

sharjah safari park careers

Children like to learn about new things because it is exciting and enjoyable. You may assist them in doing this by providing them with information that is both fascinating and simple to comprehend. Animals may be an educational topic that youngsters will enjoy learning about. In most situations, you’ll observe them drawn in within minutes, and their interest will grow with each attempt to teach them about nature. The Children’s Farm at Sharjah Safari offers a fantastic opportunity for youngsters to learn more about animals, and here are some reasons!

The Children’s Farm is a household favorite among Sharjah’s parks. There are enclosures for camels, donkeys, Arabian horses, ponies, cattle, goats, and sheep, a duck pond, and educational presentations on each animal. Families looking to participate in the summer activities for children, such as feeding the farm animals and riding horses and camels throughout the middle of the year, will flock to the center.

The farm is divided into indoor and outdoor areas, each with its purpose. The indoor portion offers educational and environmental activities, workshops, and awareness-raising exercises. All house pets reside in the outside area, where little visitors can get up close with them and even feed them their favorite meals. How fun makes that sound?
