A look aboard Disney’s $6,000 per stay, immersive Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel

A galaxy far, far away gets a whole lot closer.

Galactic Starcruiser invites guests to live in the Star Wars universe for a two-day trip.

I walked into Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser prepared to pretend. I was going to be Ch’aim Garteenbar, a reformed smuggler celebrating going straight with a luxurious cruise trip on the Halcyon, pride of Chandrila Star Line.

Unfortunately, due to the compressed nature of the media preview, I spent most of my time aboard Disney’s biggest bet in years in my usual guise of “Chaim Gartenberg, reporter.” Part hotel, part LARP, part theme park, Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser wants to be nothing less than the ultimate Star Wars experience, one that sucks you into a living, breathing sci-fi story unfolding around you — and for the price that Disney is placing on it, one that has a lot of expectations to live up to.

The main Atrium of the Halcyon and what you’ll see when you first step on board.

To be extremely clear from the start: this is not a review of the full Galactic Starcruiser experience. The media preview I attended was a four-hour curated “sampler platter” of what guests will get over a two-day stay. I didn’t get to sleep at the hotel, and my time “on board” was focused on seeing the major set pieces and interactive components in group settings instead of the choice-based, smaller storylines that guests will get to build out over the full two-day trip.

As such, this is not an assessment of whether the whole package is worth the eye-watering $4,809 starting price that Disney is charging for a Galactic Starcruiser stay. ( The exorbitant price tag was never far from my mind when I was touring the “ship,” though.)

While I can’t tell you everything about the minute-to-minute details of the branching, interactive storylines that Galactic Starcruiser is putting so much emphasis on, I did get to travel aboard the Halcyon and see some of the greatest hits and unique elements of the experience.

Galactic Starcruiser, much like Galaxy’s Edge before it, isn’t just a creation for Disney theme parks. The modern desire to connect every element of media and storytelling together is a part of the Galactic Starcruiser experience, and Disney is already working to seed the luxury liner across decades of Star Wars history.

The Halcyon plays a role in the ongoing High Republic multimedia storyline of books ; there’s already a comic book series that explains the backstory and shows iconic characters like Anakin Skywalker, Padme Amidala, and Lando Calrissian’s stays aboard the ship. There’s also the recently announced novel The Princess and the Scoundrel , which will reveal the untold story of Han and Leia’s honeymoon on the Halcyon. At the current rate of Galactic Starcruiser tie-ins, I’d put even odds on the ship appearing in an episode of a Disney Plus show before the year is out.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

Establishing the Halcyon as a key part of Star Wars lore isn’t just Disney not-so-subtly building hype and marketing for its pricey hotel, though. It’s a foundation for a key part of the sales pitch to guests. You don’t just get to live in a Star Wars - ish story for a day or two; your time aboard the Halcyon is part of the Star Wars saga — as much a part of canon as any of the movies, video games, or books.

You’re participating in events but never really shaping them

That idea of living in an interactive hotel experience has seen Galactic Starcruiser draw a lot of comparisons to Westworld , the eponymous theme park from the HBO series. The two have a lot in common: a promise of total immersion in a fictional world (complete with factions and costumes), the idea that guests can forge their own stories within the setting, and the sky-high price tag that limits attendance to guests with exceptionally deep pockets. Galactic Starcruiser even has its own AI companions and roving robots (although they’re far less murderous than those in Westworld’s.)

But Westworld’s impossible park promises a place where you can do anything or be anyone in the Wild West. Galactic Starcruiser puts more emphasis on “choice” over “agency.” A character can bring you to help sabotage the engine or rescue Chewbacca, but you won’t be the one making those decisions. Guests will have some control over which storylines they participate in and which side they’re on, but you’re still just a side character; you’re participating in events but never really shaping them.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

The Galactic Starcruiser experience starts at a spaceport where you’ll ride a transport pod up to the Halcyon proper — the lines between “hotel” and “ride” blurring together from the start.

Exiting the pod takes you to the Atrium, the Halcyon’s “lobby,” where you’ll run straight into guests and cast members alike milling around, ready to draw you into the plot. In quick succession, I met Gaya (the visiting galactic pop star), her manager Raithe Kole, an aspiring musician named Sandro Alimander (who, like me, was on his first trip off-planet), and the ship’s captain Riyola Keevan. Everyone had a story and, more importantly, wanted to try to involve me in it. Despite the elaborate costumes and setting, it still threw me off balance at first. I had to take a few minutes to figure out how I’d be fitting into the roleplaying.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

In some ways, the “ship” is a little too polished and clean. At a panel, Brad Schoeneberg, Disney’s vice president of brand merchandising, said it was inspired by “taking a look at the finer side of life in Star Wars, ” like the royal halls of Naboo, and (more oddly) the luxury yacht of crime lord Dryden Vos and the problematic halls of Canto Bight. It seemed like the visual language occasionally leaned more toward the gleaming ships of Star Trek than the lived-in style that’s the hallmark of Star Wars. There’s a glossy plastic look that never quite lets you forget you’re in what’s essentially a very large, very long theme park ride.

The Halcyon is also smaller than you might expect. The main dining cabin is about the size of a medium-sized restaurant, while the atrium’s neon-soaked bar offers seating for a couple dozen people at most. (And only a single sabacc table!) There are “restricted” spaces that open up for story elements, like the cargo hold, brig, and engineering bay, but there are really only two or three main “public” spaces to spend time in outside of those plot moments.

A room at Galactic Starcruiser isn’t big, but you’re probably not going to want to spend much time there anyway.

The rooms I saw were pretty compact, too. There’s space for a bed, a slide-out table, and enclosed bunk beds built into one of the walls. It looks to have leaned too far into emulating the space-sensitive designs of an actual cruise ship. I’ve never stayed in a $2,000-per-night hotel room, but I would expect a lot more than this.

No one will mistake Galactic Starcruiser for a traditional luxury hotel by Earth standards. There’s not much in the way of normal amenities — no pools, gyms, or spas, and virtually no natural light. (There is a single outdoor space, branded the “Climate Simulator” to avoid breaking character.) Sure, you wouldn’t go to Galactic Starcruiser for a regular hotel experience, but the price still feels like a miss.

Disney is putting plenty of emphasis on the food and drink aboard (both included in the ticket price, although specialty and alcoholic drinks are not). The presentation aims to go above and beyond a standard hotel menu. Much like Pandora or Galaxy’s Edge , food features unique shapes, colors, and textures to evoke a galaxy far, far away from our own, like colorful blue shrimp (allegedly sourced from Felucia) or black lava-rock bread evoking the volcanic world of Mustafar.

At the Star Wars hotel, even the food has lore.

The Crown of Corellia Dining Room.

Each trip on Galactic Starcruiser will follow the same broad story arc. Guests are passengers aboard the 275th anniversary trip of the luxury starcruiser, the Halcyon, which is emulating its original voyage from Chandrila to Batuu. Set in between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker , the ship runs afoul of the First Order — Star Wars drama ensues.

Storylines, we’re told, will develop organically over the two-day trip, based on how players interact and react to cast members and the actions they take along the way. There are multiple branching paths, only some of which I got to take part in: smuggling a Resistance ally on board and sneaking into the engine room to reboot the ship’s systems — but there were other plots that appear at the finale event, like stealing access codes or unlocking a Jedi holocron, that weren’t in my (brief) journey. Someone else playing through a Resistance story might have seen more of those adventures, while a First Order-aligned guest would have had their own interactions to try to foil those plots.

The whole thing culminates in an action-packed live stage show finale — it wouldn’t be Star Wars without a lightsaber duel (one which includes the spectacular-looking “real” lightsaber prop the company showed off a few months ago ). “You may all be watching the same big events, but you’re not watching the same things,” said Cory Rouse, a creative director for Walt Disney Imagineering, noting that a guest who sided with the Resistance will see payoffs that might not make sense to a scoundrel character, while a First Order ally will experience the finale in yet another light.

Disney’s movie magic comes to life when Rey wields her “real” retractable lightsaber in the event’s finale.

Immersion is the name of the game here: each sign is written in both English and the fictional Aurebesh alphabet; every cast member, waiter, room service attendant, and bartender is in character the entire time; and elaborately costumed guests chat with you about their own lives to help draw you into the world. As you’d expect from a Disney park experience, there’s incredible attention to detail. All the doors on the ship are sliding, instead of on hinges, to better fit into the Star Wars universe.

But that level of theater is table stakes for Disney World. Galactic Starcruiser aims to take things a step further by actively looking to draw in guests. Visitors are encouraged to dress up in full Star Wars cosplay to inhabit the world, at least for a day or two. (Disney, of course, is happy to sell you Star Wars -themed attire if you don’t already have it.) And the key differentiator is the ability to participate in the adventure.

Disney will happily sell you any accessories or outfits you’ll need at The Chandrila Collection gift shop.

The average Star Wars movie is about two hours long. Two seasons of The Mandalorian on Disney Plus will take you about half a day. Galactic Starcruiser aims for a far bigger scope: two days’ worth of Star Wars story. That means turning a lot of the ordinary parts of your day — including eating and sleeping — that you wouldn’t find in a movie into something more special and Star Wars -y.

“[Movies] are a slice of life with all the boring cuts part out,” Rouse told The Verge . “Whenever we’re trying to build a world like this, we actually want you to have all of the extra — what we call the magical mundane,” turning those “boring parts” into something more. That might be a comment from your (in-character) server at the bar about the ongoings aboard the ship or a glimpse of a character like Rey gesturing at you from around a corner to help her with a mission.

“Do you want to play Star Wars?”

“What they’re really asking you is ‘Do you want to play Star Wars?’” Rouse says.

The word that Disney uses for most of Galactic Starcruiser’s more unique aspects is an “invitation.” As Ann Morrow Johnson, executive producer and creative director at Walt Disney Imagineering, noted in a press panel, “I think so much of this experience lives in these smaller subtler moments where these characters are existing, they’re living their lives, and they’re inviting you to come and play with them, if you want to.”

Playing some sabacc at the Sublight Lounge bar.

At one point in our abridged trip, a few members of my group were pulled aside by a crew member to assist in a jailbreak for a captured Resistance member. Together, we hacked a terminal, passed the brig override code across a room in a short game of telephone, and unlocked the door so that they could escape. Presumably, I could have decided not to help if I wanted to aid the First Order instead.

Galactic Starcruiser asks a lot of its guests. You’re basically diving into a giant improv exercise with dozens of strangers. And what you’ll get out of the experience is largely what you put in. In my short time there, it was hard to shake the feeling that I was just going through the motions for the particular story track my group was assigned. Maybe the smaller groups, added time, additional context, and more gradual pace of storytelling that the full experience has help make the process feel more organic. But that guided nature that slots you into specific roles is at least part of the point.

Galactic Starcruiser asks a lot of its guests

According to Sara Thacher, a senior R&D Imagineer and the creative director behind all the branching narrative choices on board, Galactic Starcruiser is intended so that “you can show up and not have a character, not have to know any lines, not have to know anything about the story” and still have a good time. She described it almost like a traditional video game: players fall into a role from the game, and they can make choices but still have the framework and guidance they need to have fun. My short time on board didn’t really give me the chance to make those decisions for myself, however.

Disney also wants to make sure guests are able to understand what choices they’re making: Thacher explained that an important goal is making sure that when you make a decision (to help someone or not), it’ll be clear what the broader outcome is: “We want you to know, ‘Yes, this means if I do this, I’m helping the Resistance,’ and presenting those choices as clearly as we can and really, as often as we can, as you as you encounter different pieces of the story, different pieces of the narrative.” In other words, if you’re looking to fight with the Resistance, you shouldn’t have to worry that talking to the wrong person will get you stuck for your whole trip as a First Order sympathizer.

“Real choice means I have to understand the stakes,” Thacher adds.

Learning the ways of the Jedi in the ship’s lightsaber training pod activity.

There are a few ride-like activities on the Halcyon, like the lightsaber training pod or the bridge, and the overall vibe here is more cruise ship than theme park — albeit a cruise ship that’s been ripped out of the Star Wars universe.

The lightsaber training was (unsurprisingly) the best of them. Guided by a Saja (a Jedi-like follower of the Force), guests are given a lightsaber to spin and slash around to block blaster bolts. The effects and haptics here make the activity — not just light and sound, but you can actually feel the saber blocking each bolt as it flashes in the real world.

The bridge area, meanwhile, is a more cooperative group activity in the vein of the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run ride at Galaxy’s Edge, with four different roles that guests rotate between. Bouncing across the different stations let me take a turn blocking asteroids, aligning the ship’s sensors by matching buttons and switches, blasting lasers, and more.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

Those shipboard activities, in addition to offering entertainment in their own right, help serve as catalysts for drawing guests further into those story arcs. A bridge training exercise, for example, might end with helping the ship’s captain on a clandestine rescue mission in an asteroid belt.

Guests will also journey down to the Galaxy’s Edge park in Disney World proper, where they’ll be able to ride the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Rise of the Resistance rides (Galactic Starcruiser guests will get to use the premium-purchase “ Lightning Lanes ” to avoid waiting in line, of course), along with accomplishing their own missions given to them from characters on the ship through the smartphone-based “Datapad” built into the Play Disney Parks app. Disney says those activities will also tie into guests’ individual, ongoing storylines when they come back aboard the ship.

A franchise that you can not just love, but live in

The integration of narrative, traditional theme park rides, live entertainment, and a hotel stay make Galactic Starcruiser a blend of virtually every aspect of a Disney World trip all at once. It feels like the next step for the modern, all-encompassing pop culture machines that have come to dominate entertainment: a franchise that you can not just love, but live in.

It’s also important to remember that Galactic Starcruiser is just the first of the company’s efforts here, one that will, like the parks it’s set in, presumably grow and change over time. And it’s easy to imagine that both Disney (and its competitors) will be thinking about how to bring this kind of first-hand fan experience to more properties in the future.

“Traveling through hyperspace ain’t like dusting crops.”

That immersive experience comes at a very literal cost, though. When Disney first announced pricing, a two-night stay was quoted as starting at $4,809 for two adults, while a family of four (three adults, one child) was $5,999. That only includes the “basic” — relatively speaking — Galactic Starcruiser experience. Things like alcoholic or “specialty” drinks, outfits to better fit into the Star Wars universe you’re joining for your stay, and experiences like Savi’s Lightsaber Workshop on Baatu are extras you’ll have to budget in, too, additions to dive even deeper into the world.

All this comes at a very literal cost

The end of our Galactic Starcruiser trip ended much in the same way that any day at Disney World does: a grand fireworks show celebrating a successful voyage. The explosions are bright and colorful, with shapes and designs far beyond anything terrestrial fireworks could do. But they’re also fake: they’re digital illusions playing on the massive “viewport” screens on the bridge, masked by the soaring John Williams score and the heightened reality you’re in.

Guide to Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser Hotel at Walt Disney World Resort

star wars cruise ship hotel price

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is a highly-hyped new hotel offering 2-night experiences at Walt Disney World. The themed resort behind Galaxy’s Edge in Hollywood Studios is now open, and this guide covers everything you need to know–including pricing, 2023 reservation info, what’s included, and more! ( Updated April 11, 2023 .)

We’ve been “aboard” Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser twice now. Once for a preview and once for the inaugural voyage aboard the starship Halcyon, jewel of the Chandrila Star Line. We’ll be honest with you–this is not going to be for everyone, or even most visitors to Walt Disney World. As a threshold matter, you should determine whether this is good fit for your party by reading our spoiler-free  Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Review .

The nature of the experience alone will eliminate many families visiting Walt Disney World. Then there’s the cost, which makes it a total non-starter for many others. We paid $6,634.32 for a party of 4–or $1,658.58 per person. For more thoughts on this expensive pricing, see Is Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Worth the High Cost?

On a positive note, Walt Disney World is  finally  starting special offers on Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser. There are currently two discounts available, with the better being  Save 30% Off Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser . However, that’s only for Annual Passholders on select Spring & Summer 2023 voyages.

The other offer is  Save Up to $700 on 2-Night Disney World Resort Stays + Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser Voyages . With this discount, you save money on 2-night stays at select resorts when paired with a select Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser voyage through September 30, 2023.

Unfortunately, these deals follow the unprecedented move for Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser to Slash Voyages . Our commentary there essentially expressed frustration that Walt Disney World was not fixing the underlying issue:  pricing . This new discount does exactly that, so kudos to Disney for releasing these special offers. Hopefully they aren’t too little or too late.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

Before we get ahead of ourselves, we should probably cover the basics of the Star Wars “Hotel” at Walt Disney World. As for what it is (and why the air quotes around hotel), that’s difficult to concisely explain. Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser has an immersive ‘choose-your-own-adventure’ style story layered on top, as well as opportunities for nearly-endless show elements. It’s an unprecedented hospitality and entertainment endeavor, with the end product being awesome or alienating, depending upon your perspective.

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is unlike anything Walt Disney World has ever done, an amalgamation of a bunch of different entertainment offerings. It’s not really comparable to a theme park visit or traditional hotel stay. Instead, think of it more like a cruise on land–as the name suggests–with all-inclusive (mostly) food & drinks and comparable programming. Even the cabins are more similar to cruise staterooms, as you can see in our Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Room Review, Photos & Video .

star wars cruise ship hotel price

Unlike Disney Cruise Line, the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Resort puts guests in the center of an interactive adventure that they control. Think of this as a hybrid between a live action role playing game and the all-inclusive resort hands-on ‘enrichment through entertainment’ experience.

Disney has tested similar concepts like Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser before, but this is envelope-pushing in terms of its scope and level of immersion. It’s also unlike a traditional hotel. About the only similarity is that it has guest cabins with beds. Many of the amenities and features you’d expect of a normal Walt Disney World resort are not present at Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

In fact, comparing Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser side-by-side to a Deluxe Resort reveals that it doesn’t check many of the same boxes. If you want a luxurious experience with a pool, spa, concierge, well-appointed rooms, and more–you’ll be disappointed. Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser has none of those things. It doesn’t even have windows in the guest rooms–it has simulated portals into outer space. Although it’s on land, it’s pretending to be a spaceship, meaning it doesn’t have anything you wouldn’t find on a spaceship.

None of this is to say that Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is lacking–it just is not what you might expect from a typical Walt Disney World resort at this price point. The focus here is much more on the immersive experience, role-playing, and themed environment. Suffice to say, don’t conflate “expensive” with “luxurious” as this is something different entirely.

With that said, let’s dig into all the details, because there is a ton to know about Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Resort!

Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser Updates

star wars cruise ship hotel price

Voyages aboard Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser have now been released through September 2023. Above is a look at November through January 2023. Fewer than half of the departures this holiday season are sold out, which is the busiest time of year at Walt Disney World.

Worse yet, there isn’t a single itinerary that’s sold out in 2023. Keep in mind that people generally book vacations–especially expensive ones like this–about 6 months in advance. Most people aren’t taking multi-thousand dollar vacations on a whim. It’s probably concerning to the company that this new experience with incredibly limited capacity already is not filling up.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

With that said, availability fluctuates a  lot . Keep in mind that one reservation can be the difference between “sold out” and “available,” meaning that all it takes is one cancellation or even a modification to different dates to go from available to not available.

You really need to call (407-939-1800) for accurate availability if your dates are within the next 3 months. You might find that there are options for dates that look sold out, or that some voyages that appear available are actually gone.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

If you’re already looking ahead to doing Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser in Fall 2023, it’s likely those won’t go on sale until sometime in early 2023. As you can see from the availability calendar above, there’s really no rush to make reservations even once they are available.

The “new ship smell” has already worn off the Halcyon, so dates selling out quickly is unlikely to be an issue going forward. If anything, you might benefit by waiting. Walt Disney World is likely going to need to offer discounts sooner rather than later on Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

Disney recently has been conducting paid research on guest “perceptions, observations, and attitudes” towards stays on the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser” at Walt Disney World. It’s possible this is either routine feedback or there’s a greater sense of urgency and importance if the company needs to make adjustments to increase bookings.

With only 100 rooms to fill, it is likely concerning to the company that many peak dates this holiday season–and absolutely nothing in 2023–have not yet sold out. It’ll be interesting to follow the availability situation to see how quickly changes are made, or whether discounts are offered.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

Even if voyages don’t sell out, it wouldn’t surprise us to see Walt Disney World  not  offer discounts for Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser until mid-2023.

Releasing special offers within a year of the debut date doesn’t send a good message to investors and company analysts about the success of this costly investment. Disney may also want to maintain the appearance of a premium product–with commensurate pricing–to consumers. Discounting sets a precedent, and one that’s difficult to undo.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

When you do call to make your reservation, have all contact information (names, ages, etc.) for everyone in your party ready as well as your Disney account email address (if you somehow don’t have one, make it before calling). Also be prepared for lengthy hold times and being transferred a couple of times. Wait times are sometimes multiple hours; on busy days, the call queue closes completely.

While we’ve found the reps booking Galactic Starcruiser to be knowledgeable and experienced, they’re also very “careful” with information. For example, they won’t simply tell you which dates are cheapest or offer pricing info certain suites–you have to provide specific dates and info, and then they’ll give you a quote for those dates–and only those dates. It can be a bit tedious.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

If you don’t want to hassle with it yourself, we highly recommend requesting a free/no obligation quote from an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner and having them deal with the headaches so you don’t have to. That travel agency, and presumably most others, have dedicated planners that are already experienced in booking Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser who will be happy to assist you with the process, help you choose the most economical dates, best add-ons, and so forth.

Just keep in mind that options, especially the Galaxy Class Suite, Grand Captain Suite, and Captain’s Table, are limited and might not match the calendar above. In the last few months, availability has fluctuated wildly. Using an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner is definitely the way to go when booking Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser–it’s easier and they can monitor for availability and deal with calling in to manage the reservation since nothing can be done online (and there are always wait times on the phone).

We’ve completed our first voyage on Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, paying full price for the expensive experience. ( Well, we shared the room with 2 other adults, so technically we paid half price–but the point is that there was no discount! ) We’ll have comprehensive reviews and coverage of the actual experience for paying guests in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.

With that update out of the way, here’s everything else we know about Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Resort…

Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser Experience Details

star wars cruise ship hotel price

Prior to their departure, guests preparing for their voyages aboard the Halcyon are encouraged to purchase Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser costumes sold exclusively on shopDisney.com . Options range from $70 to $150 for adults and $60 to $100 for kids. Each seemingly serves a different purpose, so I guess you’ll “need” to buy multiple wardrobe changes to avoid any intergalactic faux pas or style mistakes.

ShopDisney’s merchandise is available for purchase exclusively by guests with a qualifying Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser reservation. Eligible guests are eligible to buy these outfits on shopDisney.com up to 60 days prior to their Galactic Starcruiser reservation check-in date and up to 30 days after their check-out date. In order to complete the transaction, the email address used to sign into shopDisney must also be linked to your Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser reservation.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

Following that and all other pre-departure preparations, the actual adventure begins when guests arrive at the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Terminal at Walt Disney World and check in for their two-night experience. Guests then enter a Launch Pod for transport into space. Through windows, they’ll see themselves leave Florida behind, jumping into hyperspace and drawing closer to the Halcyon, which is the starcruiser they’ll call home for the next two nights.

When the Launch Pod docks with the Halcyon and the airlock opens, guests step into the ship’s main deck Atrium to begin their journey through a galaxy far, far away. A visit aboard the Halcyon becomes a multi-day story that interweaves with members of the crew, other passengers, familiar Star Wars characters, and an excursion to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

While staying aboard the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser, guests interact with an eclectic group of characters both familiar and new. This includes the Halcyon’s strong and charismatic captain, a plucky ship’s mechanic, and a galactic superstar who can captivate an entire room with the crook of one jewel-encrusted purple Twi’lek finger.

This singing sensation is a featured performer during one of the dining experiences inside the Crown of Corellia Dining Room. The enticing supper club’s name is an homage to Corellia, the planet known galaxy-wide for its shipyards that gave us not only the Halcyon starcruiser, but also the Millennium Falcon . The dining room is a bright and welcoming hall that serves breakfast and lunch to passengers before transitioning each evening into a lavish multi-course menu of both otherworldly and familiar origins.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

During their all-immersive experience aboard the Halcyon, guests are invited to delve deeper into their personal adventures by participating in onboard activities, interacting with characters, crew, other passengers they meet, and becoming part of the action.

Some of these activities include wielding a lightsaber and facing off against a training remote, visiting the starcruiser’s Bridge to learn about ship systems and how to operate them, and operating the starcruiser’s navigation and defense systems–skills that come in handy during a journey through this adventure-filled galaxy.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

Guests are able to explore the Halcyon and discover hidden spaces deep in the mechanics of the ship–like the Engineering Room, which is perfect for uncovering secrets or holding secret meetings. Another interesting spot is the Sublight Lounge, where guests of all ages can enjoy libations and games in a stylish setting.

On the outside, the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Resort looks like an industrial bunker, and not an actual starship. When you enter the hotel, you’ll only be seeing the terminal and Launch Pod, not the Halcyon itself. Any representations of the Halcyon from inside the hotel are simulated. The exterior of the hotel and surrounding area is incredibly unimpressive and industrial.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

Additionally, there are very few guest rooms in the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Resort–only 100 rooms total. That should make for an intimate (and in-demand) experience as compared to other resorts at Walt Disney World, many of which have well over 1,000 rooms.

The Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Resort is physically located backstage behind Disney’s Hollywood Studios near Cast Member parking and the show buildings for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. However, every window in the Halcyon, including those in each guest cabin, has a view into outer space, with ever-changing vistas as the ship progresses from place to place.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Resort is not open for the general public to visit. This is unlike any other hotel at Walt Disney World, and even the DCL comparison doesn’t do it full justice. A docked ship that would have amenities and facilities that overlap with a standard hotel, but this won’t have things like a pool, spa, tennis courts, or literally any outdoor recreation options.

The Galactic Starcruiser is more like a long-form, multi-part attraction or on-board cruise excursion. Think of it along those lines–it’s an immersive experience…that’s so long it offers a place to sleep, too.

To give you an idea of what to expect, here’s a sample itinerary for Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser:

star wars cruise ship hotel price

Walt Disney World has released sample pricing for Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Resort. Above is a look at rates for departures on weeknights in the fall off-season.

A few things to note here. First, this is the off-season at Walt Disney World and it’s when rack rates at all hotels are at their lowest levels of the year. For example, Grand Floridian rooms start at $742 per night for those same dates but jump to over $850 per night for many dates in October.

Suffice to say, pricing for weekends or more popular travel dates could end up being considerably more expensive. With that said, we’re honestly surprised by how “low” the prices are for Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

Obviously, this experience is not cheap. To the contrary, it is very, very expensive. Total voyage costs of ~$5,000 to $6,000 for off-season weekdays is a ton of money and suggests peak dates are thousands of dollars more expensive.

However, that’s still less money than we anticipated (a prior version of this post predicted costs of around $3,000 per person). Some dates could end up being on the more expensive end of that spectrum, but the starting prices–and costs for families of 4 are a pleasant surprise. Again, it’s still an exorbitant sum of money…just less exorbitant than the outrageous numbers we were bracing ourselves for.

We’re sure many–if not most–of you will disagree with this. Perhaps it’s all about expectations. We expected this to be astronomically priced given what the experience entails, its all-inclusive nature, and how Disney prices both its luxury resorts and cruises. Others might’ve had different expectations than us. No matter how you slice this, it’s expensive. But it could’ve been worse.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

Another thing to consider here is that the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Resort is essentially an all-inclusive boutique hotel plus an interactive live entertainment experience. It’s labor intensive but does not have many rooms, meaning that the price-points here are high.

Scarcity is also a huge factor. Some have derided this as a hotel or experience for the top 1%, but that’s actually not accurate. On any given day, less than .01% of the guests at Walt Disney World will be staying at Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Resort. This isn’t to say it’ll only appeal to the wealthy…just that an infinitesimally small number of Walt Disney World’s overall guest population will be staying here.

There are a lot of diehard Star Wars and Disney fans with large amounts of disposable income. Look no further than the prices Savi’s Workshop for Handbuilt Lightsabers is able to charge for that experience due to its incredibly limited capacity. This resort is similar to that, but with a more elaborate and involved experience.

Reservations & How to Book?

star wars cruise ship hotel price

Reservations for Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Resort can be booked by calling (407) 939-1800 to confirm availability and book your voyage. Again, reservations cannot be made online. The only way to bypass long wait times on the phone is by contacting an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner and having them reserve your vacation package for you–that’ll save you time and work, as they’ll do your planning.

If the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Resort is something that interests you, we’d highly recommend booking it sooner rather than later. This is for a couple of reasons. First, prices are likely to go up–Disney rarely decreases prices. The ‘sample pricing’ graphic you see below is likely the cheapest Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser will ever be.

Second, this is an ambitious and envelope-pushing idea, and is currently in a state of ‘pure & pristine’ Imagineering. Over time, compromises and changes are likely to be made in service of operational realities, changing demographics, and guest feedback.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

Third, if for some reason this concept does not work and Disney is “forced” to decrease prices to attract more guests…more of the aforementioned compromises will be made to preserve the company’s margins on the Galactic Starcruiser. Cuts will be made to entertainment or dining (charging extra for food & beverage is an obvious way to cut the up-front price while increasing overall revenue).

This is all speculation on my part. However, this is a truly unprecedented project for Walt Disney World, and iteration is likely to continue based upon guest feedback and behavior patterns. This will likely begin as a thematically ambitious experience with structured live action roleplaying plus minimal real world intrusions. It’ll likely be aimed at the hardcore Star Wars fans who want something incredibly immersive and all-encompassing. And that’s largely who it’ll attract at first–Star Wars zealots and other hardcore fans who save or splurge on this.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

What the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Resort evolves into depends in large part upon both the effectiveness of Disney’s messaging and potential guests actually listening to marketing. Walt Disney World is already stressing that this is not a typical hotel stay, but that doesn’t mean people will hear or comprehend that.

Ultimately, it’s possible that Imagineering will fine-tune the offerings aboard the starship Halcyon, and it’ll age like a fine wine. This could mean new storylines, seasonal events, added characters, and who knows what else. We were surprised to find the experience firing on all cylinders during the inaugural voyage, and were surprised by how well it appealed to guests of all ages and even mainstream audiences. There’s a lot of potential here.

With that said, it’s also possible that the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Resort experience will be diluted after its first year or so (this is what we predicted prior to opening). The primary demographic could shift from hardcore fans making a big splurge to affluent guests wanting their first visit to Walt Disney World to consist of the very best of everything–basically, rich parents with kids who enjoy Star Wars. The latter group is far less interested in thematic and storytelling integrity, and more so in exclusivity and luxurious experiences. Over time, Imagineering will iterate on the concept so it comports with guest feedback and expectations.

YOUR THOUGHTS

What do you think about the addition of a boutique Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Resort to Walt Disney World? Will you be booking this? If not, what’s your maximum per person price-point for this experience? Would you prefer a more conventional hotel stay at a Star Wars-themed or decorated hotel? To pay for 4 almost $58 per hour each for 40 hours, 6-8 hours sleeping, 5-6 hours at Galaxy’s Edge 2 hours eating(?). Pretending you’re on a “mission” or for aprox the same $$$ spend 7DAYS on a Disney Cruise with a show every night, free room service 24 hrs. Kids area they don’t want to leave, activities, adult area, pools, ports , private island—duh it’s a no brainer.

' src=

I’m with you on this. I predict that even the die hard Star Wars fans will use their rent money to do this once, but will not return for a second visit. Soon, this resort will have cycled through the fans that can and will pony up this kind of money for a single visit and this resort will be “re-imagined” as something else. I give it 2-3 years at best. OR, Disney will have to drastically cut the price. This would probably entail having to cut the experience as well.

' src=

I think another reason for the slow bookings is the cancellation policy. My son and I have been saving to go since the hotel was announced but if you cancel within 30 days you lose 100% of the cost. What we may do now is get to WDW first and then book while we are there. They do offer insurance to US residents for a cost but I’m Canadian. Hard to risk thousands of dollars if something occurs where you have to cancel.

' src=

Mike, as a Canadian, I feel like the strong rise of the US$ against all other currencies is a big reason to delay for international visitors. The trip costs 20% more now for us! I did not know that insurance is available for US residents (but not us? Boo), but now that I do, it just reminds me of all the financial risks in booking. Tom, I find it interesting that you noted how people usually book six months in advance, but not that no one had that much time for January 2023 because the dates did not drop until late August.

' src=

@StudentMama – That’s an excellent point about dates not dropping until August. At the time, I wondered what the holdup was.

Same goes for the strong dollar–it’s possible there are international visitors who want to do this, but are waiting for a more favorable exchange rate.

' src=

Star Wars super fan here. My excitement for this experience dropped significantly once I saw the itinerary.

For this to appeal to me, it would need to cost significantly less and last at least a day longer. This is basically $6k for two days and half of one of those days is at Hollywood Studios!

' src=

Posted on the other SW article as well: We just returned from this experience. Going in, I am a SW fan but not as deeply involved as my husband, adult son and young daughter. I thought I would enjoy it but absolutely labeled this as “once in a lifetime” expense. Within the first few hours, we were already planning a trip back. We LOVED this. I was shocked at how involved in the story I got.

On day 2, my daughter was too tired to continue in Batuu so I brought her back to the “ship” early while our son spent all day completing missions. He was invited to the “special moment” I believe you referenced, but the rest of our family was not. We want to go back as just a group of adults in order to experience the story in more depth than we could with a young child. There are a few things in Batuu that you can now do with the magicband+ that earn you credits that may or may not affect your titles and ratings in the app. It was odd wearing two bands into Batuu but worth it.

I really wish they would offer are “return cruiser” discount for people who would like to experience everything again. I did NOT dress up but did not feel it affected my story, however I would strongly consider dressing the part on our next visit.

Also, we arrived at around 12pm and were inside the building around 12:30 waiting in AC to go through the welcome video and get checked in. There were at least 20 families ahead of us in line when we arrived. We left the “ship” around 9:40 am and were checked out an in a taxi within 15 minutes so that sticking point has been smoothed out for sure.

' src=

I really want to do this sometime, but it is currently WAY too expensive. Inflation on the raise makes this completely unrealistic for me. Also, even though it is a unique experience, it is hard to justify paying for a few days on the Galactic Starcruiser when for the same money you can stay at another Disney Resort for longer and enjoy more amenities. They need to find a balance before I can even consider booking.

' src=

I love Disney and staying at the top resorts , I don’t mind Genie or even LL that much but this thing is where I draw the line . This is straight robbery lol

' src=

It’s just too much money if not everyone in your family is into star wars or larping. It would be completely wasted on two of my kids (one is too young; one is too shy) and my husband (I can’t even get him to wear a costume for halloween), so even though my oldest son and I would love it, we’d have to split up the family (not cost effective or how I want to spend my limited vacation time) or pay for three people who would be completely uninterested.

Now if they made this more like an actual cruise with something for everyone—a pool my husband and two kids could spend all day swimming in while me and my other kid did missions, or more family friendly activities you could just walk up and do without taking part in a plotline, I’d consider it.

' src=

Thanks for the update, Tom. Have you heard anything about the experience being changed for these 2023 dates? A previous GSC guest reported receiving an email that “New dates have now launched — Take a different path and live a new Star Wars story.” It could be just an invitation to come back and switch from helping the Resistance to the First Order; or it could be what you suspected about Disney altering the original experience for whatever of the many reasons it could claim.

We were planning the Halcyon for an anniversary trip. Here are the reasons we are now leaning No: 1) The booking process. I’m already tired after three calls of having to use the phone and wait on hold just for information. I’m sorry, I don’t want games. I want to be able to look online for prices and availability and make my choices based on that info, not trying to type a bunch of info into my own spreadsheet while live on the phone. 2) They also should just publish policies bloggers and Disney omit online that will make people hesitate to book until closer to their dates. For example, that you need to make a 20% deposit (so four digits) at booking, that you must pay in full 90 days out, or that you forfeit some of the cost for cancellations at less than 90 days out. All of that requires an incredible amount of *certainty* before booking that many still don’t have wrt travel. Think how quickly travel changed in Dec 2021 when Omicron showed up. 3) The trip report from the Disney mega fan who moderates the WDW subreddit. She gave a detailed story of how different things went wrong with her trip. No one thing was major, but she was unlucky enough to experience several different problems, including CMs letting uninvited people take up some spots in special secret side quests so that some invited people ran out of stations. The kicker was that her complaints to CMs onboard, phone calls during her cruise, and emails afterward have gone completely unanswered, unaddressed, and unmitigated. Not acceptable for any trip, and deeply disappointing and deflating for her on a trip of this $$$$ magnitude. 4) The Redditor (again, a pro-Disney mod with a long track record of sincere, positive posts about her WDW experiences) also had the misfortune to cruise with fellow passengers who did not dress up. She said it was 80% not in costume on her cruise. Nope! I take costumes as a signal of both level of fandom AND level of commitment to the role-playing component. Her description was way off from others’ experiences, but highlights a major component of what would affect my enjoyment that is wholly outside my and Disney’s control. It made me fear that my 2023 plans would be ruined by fellow passengers who are just rich people looking to try the new-new rather than huge fans who came to play. For context, I have cosplayed at fan conventions and am considering the London SW Celebration as an alternative to the Halcyon. A week in London plus airfare is the same cost as this cruise!) I am not wealthy. This trip would require a year of saving up and many, many sacrifices that even my kids are questioning. I cannot have a bad time. Or even a mediocre one. I would want to hear about more people doing costumes, better quality controls and kinks with datapads getting worked out (esp for us non-American visitors with non-American phones). And the booking policies push me to favor booking as late as possible, when absolutely all my ducks are in a row and I am confident we will be able to go. Even if that means I don’t get my first choice of dates. Better that than losing a couple thousand to a cancellation, or even just having a couple thousand dollars tied up in the deposit for months.

A lot of very fair points here. One thing that stands out to me as particularly mind boggling is how difficult this is to book. I understand Disney wanting to clearly explain what Starcruiser is and isn’t, but not everyone has the time to spend hours on the phone getting this sorted out. (This is a general problem that extends far beyond Starcruiser–and will eventually come back to bite Disney.)

As for your points about the Redditor’s trip report, that’s interesting to hear. One of our friends who works for TouringPlans recently went on a cruise and we were comparing notes…they’re different was far different (and worse IMO) than ours. He still liked it and was glad he did it, but it was shocking how much had already changed. He should have a report coming soon on TouringPlans, so stay tuned for that if you’re curious.

Maybe, just maybe, Disney will look at this now and realise how short sighted they have become post pandemic. It is only now and moving forward into the next few years that economically we are going to see the full impact of the pandemic. People who had saved their money by not going anywhere for two years and have now splurged all that on a Disney holiday are going to realise that with rising petrol and food costs, increased mortgage rates and higher cost of living demands that a Disney holiday is no longer achievable. Stack the coffers now Disney because in a couple of years time you are going to see a massive downward trend in visitors, just sayin and one of the first to go will be this insanely expensive experience. Shame they didn’t make it more accessible for us plebs.

Is Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Actually a Ship? Or Is It a Star Wars Hotel?

While Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is unfortunately not an actual starcruiser that takes you to that galaxy far, far away, it will feel as if you are travelling amongst the stars while aboard. When guests arrive at the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Terminal, they will board a virtual launch pod that will take you to the Halcyon, which is the name of the ship this experience takes place on. Onboard, guests will be able to “see passing ships, planets, stars and other breathtaking galactic sights float past realistic windows that look out into space—including windows in every passenger cabin and suite.”

So, even though Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is just a stationary building at Walt Disney World, it is meant to feel like an adventure to the stars.

What Is Sabaac?

Sabaac is the name of a popular card game in the Star Wars universe. It was first introduced in the Legends novel Lando Calrissian and the Mindharp of Sharu from 1983, and it officially became a part of the new Star Wars canon in 2014’s A New Dawn novel. While it may have been inspired by a conversation between Han Solo and Lando in the second draft of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, it made its big screen debut in 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Its claim to fame in The Skywalker Saga came when Han Solo won the Millennium Falcon from Lando in a game of Sabaac.

The game has numerous variations, but a deck usually holds 76 cards and players try to get as close to the score of 23 or -23 as possible. There are four suits - Flasks, Sabers, Staves, and Coins - with 15 cards each, and a variety of other special cards that each carry their own value.

Sabaac will be one of the games available on Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser via tournaments, the Sublight Lounge, and more.

What Are the Dining Options and Food Choices Aboard Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser?

Food and dining experiences aboard Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser are also meant to make you feel as though you are eating the cuisine from that galaxy far, far away. On the first night, guests will be treated to dinner at the Crown of Corellia Dining Room, which will have been transformed into a “table-service supper club with a special musical appearance by a galactic superstar.”

The second night, The Taste Around the Galaxy will give guests a wide variety of courses “inspired by the geography and environments of iconic destination planets throughout the galaxy.” Alongside each course, the staff will present the name of the dish, the inspiration behind it, and the ingredients that make it what it is. This meal will include group appetizers, a choice of entree, and a specially plated dessert.

Breakfast and Lunch will also be available in the Crown of Corellia Dining Room and will feature “colorful fare from all over the galaxy - along with familiar favorites from your home planet.” Breakfast items will include a mix of hot and cold small plates and such beverages as juice, fresh brewed coffee, and Bubo Wamba Family Farms blue milk. Lunch will have “a collection of small bites, like sandwiches, soups, mini flatbreads, assorted salads, and sweets.”

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Food and Dining Options

star wars cruise ship hotel price

For those looking for a more social/bar experience, the Sublight Lounge will be a great place to visit at all times of the day. Not only will you be able to order drinks, but you may be able to do so “while conspiring with a charming smuggler or playing a casual game of holo-sabaac.”

During your visit to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, guests will also be able to enjoy a quick-service meal at Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo or “other select locations at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.”

If you wish to celebrate a special occasion or make your dining experience even more grand, you can arrange to sit at the Captain’s Table at the center of the Crown of Corellia Dining Room. While this costs extra, it does offer you that chance to try out some of the captain’s favorite dishes.

Many of us have dreamed of becoming Jedi, and Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will get us just that much closer to that dream with its take on Lightsaber Training. This will give guests the chance to wield a lightsaber and face-off against a remote training droid that is not unlike the one Luke Skywalker trained with in Star Wars: A New Hope.

Furthermore, Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will be the first place Star Wars fans will be able to see Disney’s realistic, retractable lightsaber. While Disney has yet to confirm if/when these will be available for purchase, it does promise guests will be “the first to see it in action - along with so much more.”

What Is Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser’s Bridge Training Experience?

The bridge is the brain of any reputable starcruiser, and that is no different aboard the Halcyon a.k.a. the ship Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser takes place on. During the journey, guests will be able to not only explore the bridge, but learn from the crew on how to properly handle navigation, power, defense, and other critical systems. As the website teases, “these skills may even come in handy should critical situations arise later in your voyage.”

star wars cruise ship hotel price

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is designed to be, in Disney’s own words, “part live immersive theater, part themed environment, part culinary extravaganza, part real-life role-playing game - and yet so much more.” It is meant for guests to have the chance to live their own Star Wars story.

From choosing to join the First Order or the Resistance to striking a bargain with a gang of smugglers to simply sipping a cocktail and being able to “watch it all from a safe distance,” there is something for everyone on this journey.

Alongside interacting with new and familiar characters from Star Wars like Rey, Kylo Ren, and Chewbacca, guests will also be able to assist certain people/aliens in various missions. By using the Star Wars: Datapad experience that is featured in the Play Disney Parks app, guests will be able to see their personalized itinerary, communicate with the crew and others, make choices, receive messages, and it may also be a way to be “invited to secret meetings and adventures.”

Yes! While visitors to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge are restricted as to what they can wear as far as dressing up like a Jedi or Sith or otherwise, guests aboard Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser are encouraged to dress your “Coruscant best.” The choice is yours whether you want to become a Jedi, smuggler, politician, or just a vacationer from Ohio in your most comfy clothes. Even if you don’t have any in-world clothing by the time you arrive, there will be the chance to purchase themed clothing on the starcruiser.

Additionally, there will be an end-of-voyage gala celebration where dressing your best is highly recommended!

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser takes place aboard the Halcyon - a luxury space cruise ship from a company called Chandrila Star Line that operates various ships around the galaxy. Among other places, the Halcyon takes guests to Batuu - which is the planet where Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and the Black Spire Outpost are located.

In Galaxy’s Edge, there is a note posted in Oga’s Cantina that advertises a mechanic position has become available on the ship. The job listing also asks that applicants have experience working on MPO-1440 - the class of starcruiser the Halcyon is - and that they are able to speak Shyriiwook, which is the language of the Wookiees!

The note is from Captain R. Keevan - a Pantoran female who has been the captain of the Halcyon for 20 years. It’s also mentioned that she served aboard the ship during the war between the First Order and the Resistance, which does line up with the timeline Batuu is currently in at Galaxy’s Edge.

Considering Galaxy’s Edge takes place between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker and Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser visits Galaxy’s Edge, it’s safe to assume that it will begin its journey at the same time as well.

More of Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser’s lore will be revealed in 2022 when the 5-issue comic book miniseries titled Star Wars: Halcyon Legacy is released. This “era-spanning story from the High Republic to the days of the First Order” that covers 275 years will allow fans to learn more about the Halcyon and those who have been part of its history.

Alongside seeing the first meeting of Lando Calrissian and Hondo Ohnaka, we will also learn the story of The High Republic's Burryaga Agaburry and Nibs Assek fending off an attack by the Nihil on one of Halcyon's first voyages.

Will I Be Able to Visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Disney’s Hollywood Studios During My Trip?

Yes! Guests will take a “shuttle” from the Halcyon to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge on the second day of the adventure. During that time, guests will be given access to ride both Star Wars: Smugglers Run and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and will be able to explore Galaxy’s Edge and the wider Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

As we get closer to Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser’s maiden voyage/grand opening, we will update this page with all the new details we learn about this two-day experience. If there is something that’s missing or you’d like to know, let us know in the comments below! May the Force be with you!

How Much Does the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Hotel Cost?

By Author Ziggy Oskwarek

Ever since Disney announced the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel , the biggest question on people’s minds is: “How much does it cost?” Now we have an answer to that question since Disney has revealed the pricing for the experience, and it isn’t cheap!

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Price

On Disney’s Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser website they have listed all the prices and the full itinerary and everything included in the experience.

(UPDATE) – Disney has just announced that it is closing the Star Wars: Galactic Starcrusier experience permanently. The final voyage will take place on September 28-30, 2023. Read below in the News section for more info…

Let’s just start out by saying, the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is one of, if not the most expensive experience Disney has ever created. We knew all along this was going to be expensive, but when broken down on a price per guest basis, it’s the most expensive hotel at Walt Disney World, and it isn’t close.

In this post, we are going to share all the prices with you for the Star Wars hotel, including the 3 different room types, the meals, and other experiences that are included in the final cost.

(NEWS) Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Closing Permanently

After just over a year of operation, Disney has announced it is permanently closing the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel, the company’s first thematic resort experience.

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Hotel Worth It?

The Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will make its final voyage on September 28, 2023, and will close permanently on September 30, 2023.

Guests who have a current reservation on or after September 30, will be given the opportunity to move their reservation to another date before the closure. New reservations are also temporarily closed until May 26, 2023, to give guests with a current reservation priority in changing it to another date.

Here is the official announcement of the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser closure from the website:

“The final voyage for Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will take place September 28-30, 2023. We are so proud of all of the Cast Members and Imagineers who brought Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser to life and look forward to delivering an excellent experience for Guests during the remaining voyages over the coming months. Thank you to our Guests and fans for making this experience so special.

For Guests who previously booked a voyage on or after September 30, 2023, we will be contacting you soon to discuss your options and modify your plans. As we prioritize these Guests, at this time, new bookings are temporarily paused and will reopen on May 26, 2023.”

Stormtrooper on Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Hotel

Honestly, we cannot say we are surprised. The Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser was one of the coolest things Disney has ever done, but it’s also perhaps the most expensive experience. Let’s be real, the majority of families cannot afford a 2-Night voyage for more than $5,000.

This was made clear over the last few months as many of the Galactic Starcruiser voyages were not filling up and Disney started offering discounts for guests to stay there. Even so, there just isn’t enough demand for an experience this expensive, no matter how awesome it is.

Disney had this to say in its official announcement of the closure:   “Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is one of our most creative projects ever and has been praised by our guests and recognized for setting a new bar for innovation and immersive entertainment.

This premium, boutique experience gave us the opportunity to try new things on a smaller scale of 100 rooms, and as we prepare for its final voyage, we will take what we’ve learned to create future experiences that can reach more of our guests and fans.”

We’re sad to see that the Galactic Starcruiser didn’t work out. Again, it’s not because it wasn’t a good experience, in fact, it was an incredible one. After crunching all the numbers and seeing demand over the coming months, Disney must know that there is no feasible way to make it work financially.

Sure lowering the price is great, but if it costs too much to run and Disney is not going to turn a profit from it, we can’t expect it to stay open, unfortunately.

One thing is for sure, the creative team behind the Galactic Starcruiser did an exceptional job in bringing this immersive experience to life, and even though it didn’t work out financially for the company, they can use this project and use many of the things that made it so good on whatever Imagineers have in store for us next.

We’ll have more on this very soon, including what it means moving forward, so stay tuned.

(UPDATE) Current Discounts for Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Hotel

Guest Cabin in Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser

After almost a year of operation and with guest demand slowing, Disney has started offering the first discounts for the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser at Walt Disney World, which now includes the general public.

In reality, Disney has released 2 types of discounts, one for the general public, and another for Disney Vacation Club Members. Let’s break each of these down for you…

1. General Public – Save $700 on WDW Resort Stays

This is Disney’s first discount given to the general public, even if they are not dropping the prices of the actual rooms on a Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser voyage. Instead, they are offering a deep discount on a vacation that includes a stay at one of the Disney World Resort Hotels right before or after this experience.

Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa over Seven Seas Lagoon

This makes sense, because if you are coming all the way to Walt Disney World to stay on the Galactic Starcruiser, you may as well spend a couple of days in the theme parks during the same trip.

Right now, guests can save $700 on a two-night Disney World Resort hotel stay , immediately before or after a stay on the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser. This offer is good for most voyages between February 5 and September 30, 2023.

The participating Disney World Resorts and prices are as follows:

  • Save $350 per night – at Disney’s Beach Club Resort, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort
  • Save $250 per night – at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, Disney’s Boardwalk Inn, Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, or Disney’s Wilderness Lodge.
  • Save $150 per night – at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort

You probably noticed that all of the resorts that this offer is good for are Disney Deluxe Resorts , as well as Disney’s Coronado Springs which is the only Disney Moderate Resort to make the list. There are no Disney Value Resorts listed, but if you are planning on staying at one of the nicer resorts anyway, you will find some nice savings.

Disney's Wilderness Lodge Lobby

For example, a standard room at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge anywhere from July 3 to August 17, 2023, costs $488 per night normally. However, with a $250 per night discount, that comes all the way down to just $238 per night. So essentially you get 2 nights at the Wilderness Lodge for just over $500. That is a steal and one of the best discounts you will ever see at Disney World.

Now, of course, the Galactic Starcruiser will still cost you $5,000+, and you shouldn’t book it just for the discount, but if you are already planning on going in 2023 and wanted to stay a couple of nights to go to the parks, it’s a fantastic offer.

2. Disney Vacation Club Discount for Galactic Starcruiser

This second offer is brand new and it’s good on the voyage from August 19-21, 2023. This offer makes Disney Vacation Club members eligible for a 30% discount at the Star Wars Hotel, but again, it’s only for DVC Members.

Sublight Lounge Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser

Here is the breakdown of the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser discounted prices:

“DVC members save 30% on member-exclusive voyage Aug. 19-21, 2023. Registration begins on March 21, 2023, at 11 AM Eastern Daylight Time. Terms Apply*.

This offer applies to the following departure in the Summer of 2023:

August 19 – 21, 2023

To Register:

  • Select “Reserve Your Spot”. Be sure to have your Member number ready.  https://disneyvacationclub.disney.go.com/star-wars-galactic-starcruiser
  • You will enter a virtual waiting room, which secures your place in line. Do not refresh the page.
  • When it’s your turn, you’ll be sent to the registration form to reserve your spot on the Member Voyage!

This is pretty significant news and it makes sense that Disney is offering discounts to DVC members. They started doing this for Winter 2023 voyages, and DVC members have been the top beneficiaries of the discounts. It’s obvious that despite good reviews from guests, this is a very exclusive experience and not doable for the majority of guests.

It was easy for Disney to sell out the first wave of voyages and it’s also understandable that demand for this has now started shrinking which means Disney needs to do more to entice guests to come.

Lobby in Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser

3. Annual Passholder Discount

The last offer at the moment is for Annual Passholders and they can save 30% on select Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser voyages during Spring and Summer 2023.

Here is a list of dates for select voyages that can be booked with the 30% savings from April 15 to June 28, 2023 :

  • April 15, 17, 19, 21, 23, 25, 27 and 29
  • May 1, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 19, 21, 23, 25, 29 and 31
  • June 2, 4, 6, 14, 18, 20, 24, 26 and 28

Important Details:

  • The number of packages allocated for this offer is limited.
  • Savings are based on the non-discounted price a non-Passholder pays for the same package.
  • Passholder must present a valid Walt Disney World Annual Pass at check-in.
  • The offer is non-transferable.
  • Offer is only applicable for new reservations.
  • Limit one cabin per Passholder; Passholder must stay in the cabin.
  • Advance reservations are required.
  • Offer excludes Galaxy Class Suites and Grand Captain Suites.

It’s nice to see Annual Passholders getting a big discount and we think all of these discounts are a sign of things to come. It wouldn’t be surprising to see more discounts offered to all guests in the coming months. The voyage we took was incredible and we loved every second of it, and the same goes for most people I’ve spoken to that have had a chance to go.

The only issue is the price, and with a slowing economy and consumers getting more thrifty, it was going to be almost impossible for Disney to keep up the original pace of sales, and things were bound to slow down. How many more discounts we see in the near future remains to be seen.

Make sure to read our article How to Book the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser for more details on this new discount.

Room Prices

Standard Guest Room Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser Resort

Prices for your stay on the Galactic Starcruiser vary depending on group size, cabin type, and the dates you choose to visit.

Just to get the big number you are waiting for out of the way, a 2-night, 2-day stay on the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser starts at $4,809 for a 2-guest room.

Yes, you heard me right. Almost $5,000 for a 2-night stay in the Star Wars Hotel. I told you it wasn’t cheap!

View of the Galactic Starcruiser Hotel Room from top bunk bed prices

Prices are broken down into a per guest, per night basis and set up very similar to cruise pricing. The smaller your group, the more you pay per person. If you have more people in your party, you will end up paying less per person.

We were able to stay on the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser on opening day and the total cost for 2 people was $5,415.79 . That comes out to $2,707.89 each for 2 nights or $1,353.94 each, per night.

On top of that, there are 3 room types: Standard Cabin , Galaxy Class Suite , and a Grand Captain Suite . The bigger the room, the more expensive it is.

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Standard Cabin Concept art

Here is the pricing for a standard cabin in Late August-September 2023:

2 Guests Per Cabin:

  • $1,209 per guest, per night
  • $4,809 voyage total

3 Guests Per Cabin (2 Adults, 1 Child):

  • $889 per guest, per night
  • $5,299 voyage total

4 Guests Per Cabin (3 Adults, 1 Child) :

  • $749 per guest, per night
  • $5,999 voyage total

Prices for Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser reservations

Now, it’s important to keep in mind, that these are for Late-August and September, traditionally one of the cheapest times of the year to go to Disney World . Considering that Deluxe Resorts can increase the price per night to 50-60% from the value season to the holidays, it’s possible these prices will be exponentially higher during the busy seasons.

At that point, we are likely talking about $6,000-$7,000 per night for a 2 Guest Cabin and $10,000 for a 4 Guest Cabin , not to mention the more expensive room types.

What’s Included in the Price?

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Lobby Concept Art

Similar to cruise pricing, more than just your room is included in the price. Meals and entertainment are all part of the experience and they are included in the cost.

  • 2-night stay in a cabin or suite
  • Ongoing, immersive, and interactive entertainment, where choices determine your experience
  • Food and beverages on the starcruiser (excluding alcoholic and specialty beverages) and a quick-service meal at Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo or other select locations at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
  • Admission to Disney’s Hollywood Studios for your planetary excursion to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge for one day, on day two
  • Valet parking
  • Exclusive Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser databand (known on your home planet as a MagicBand)

Of course, not everything is included in the base price. You will have to pay extra for alcoholic and specialty beverages for example.

Cloud of Bespin Cocktail Sublight Lounge

There are also unique merchandise and shopping opportunities , because, well, it’s Disney. In fact, The Chandrila Collection is full of cool stuff to bring home from your voyage including ornaments, coasters, wine glasses, lightsabers, Star Wars outfits, a model of the Halcyon ship, and more.

There is also a small shop outside the entrance to the resort as you are leaving with more classic Star Wars-themed merchandise like t-shirts, MagicBands, etc.

There are also additional entertainment or exclusive experiences you can add on to your stay like building a lightsaber at Savi’s Workshop or building a droid at the Droid Depot . There is a custom photo service you can hire that will take photos of you and your group in various locations around the Starcruiser.

Dining Prices

All of your meals are included in the price of your room and there are 2 breakfasts , 1 lunch , and 2 dinners during your stay. Let’s look at what’s included:

Breakfast Night 2 Galactic Starcruiser

Both of these take place on the Galactic Starcruiser in the glamorous Crown of Corellia Dining Room. The first is on day 2, and the second breakfast is on day 3, right before departure. Guests have a 3-hour window of time to eat breakfast each morning.

Breakfast includes hot and cold small plates and a variety of beverages including juices, fresh-brewed coffee, and Bubo Wamba Family Farms blue milk . In fact, you can get unlimited free blue milk at both breakfast and lunch instead of paying for it in Galaxy’s Edge!

Lunch Night 2 Galactic Starcruiser

There are 2 lunches during your stay on the Galactic Starcruiser. The first is on Day 1 immediately when you arrive, and the other is on Day 2. On Day 1 lunch is a buffet on the ship, meanwhile, on Day 2 you have a choice whether or not to eat another buffet on the ship or during your trip down to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Hollywood Studios .

Each guest is given a lunch credit to any quick service restaurant in Hollywood Studios if they choose to eat off-ship. If you do make that choice, we recommend eating at Docking Bay 7: Food and Cargo .

This is a quick service restaurant in Batuu, and it will keep you fully immersed in the Star Wars story you are living. Not only that, the food is amazing and it’s one of our favorite quick service restaurants in Disney World hands-down.

Docking Bay 7 Food & Cargo Hollywood Studios

Guests can take as much time as they want to eat and enjoy the unique theming of the restaurant. This all happens after you get to ride both Rise of the Resistance and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run .

One entree and side, plus beverage will be included in the price. You will use your Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser databand ( MagicBand ) to redeem your meal as you do if you were using the Disney Dining Plan .

Galactic Starcruiser Dinner Tray

Lastly, and best of all are the dinners. This was one of the highlights of our entire Star Wars hotel experience. Included in the price of the stay are 2 dinners.

On the first night of your stay, dinner is in the Crown of Corellia Dining Room which transforms for dinner into an enticing table-service supper club with a special musical appearance by a galactic superstar, Gaia. She ends up playing an even bigger part in the story than you originally think.

Dinner Night 1 Galactic Starcruiser

This is a unique dining and entertainment experience and you can also socialize with passengers and crew. The music is awesome and it is a super-fun environment to have a meal.

The second night , The Taste Around the Galaxy showcases courses inspired by the geography and environments of iconic destination planets throughout the galaxy. With the serving of each course, a brief introduction presents the name, inspiration, and ingredients for the dishes.

The meal includes group appetizers for the table, a choice of entrée, and a specialty plated dessert.

Dinner Night 2 Galactic Starcruiser

There are two seatings for dinner each night and when you book your hotel stay you can request your seating preference.

Captain’s Table

Galactic Starcruiser Captain's Table Experience

There is also an upgraded dinner at the Captain’s Table which comes at an additional cost of $30 per person in 2022 and it increases to $50 per person in 2023. Think of this as a Chef’s Table dining experience you find in other Disney restaurants.

Guests sit at the captain’s table in a prime location in the center of the Crown of Corellia Dining Room. Guest are served extra courses that you don’t get with the regular dining experience.

Is the Galactic Starcruiser Worth the High Price?

Entertainment on the Galactic Starcruiser

A family of 4 is going to spend a minimum of $6,000 on the hotel alone, not to mention travel expenses to get to Orlando, plus any additional days spent at Walt Disney World. In that case, you are easily talking about a $10,000 vacation or more.

As you can see, the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for most guests and it’s very expensive. In fact, the cost of the Galactic Starcruiser is more than what about 95% of Americans spend on vacation in a year.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of visitors to Walt Disney World will probably not be able to afford or justify paying such high prices for a 2-day experience.

On the other hand, the Galactic Starcruiser is small, and with only 100 guest cabins, so far Disney has had enough people that are excited about this experience and they haven’t had difficulty filling up the rooms.

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Concept Art

Is the Star Wars hotel worth the price? That depends on many factors.

Is it worth taking out a second mortgage on your home just to go? No, it’s not so don’t do that under any circumstances. Like any high-end luxury item, the actual cost is usually not worth the huge difference in price between it and the next model down.

However, after our stay on the Galactic Starcruiser, we are convinced it is absolutely worth it for the right kind of guests.

If you are looking for a relaxing, low-key vacation, look somewhere else. If you are not willing to participate fully in the story, or are not a big Star Wars fan, you will likely think it is a waste of money.

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Atrium concept art

What about comparing it to other vacations for the same, or even less money?

Just to make a comparison, during the same time of the year (August/September) you can get a room at the Polynesian Village Resort for approximately $650 per night. That means you could stay there for 9 nights and still have some money left over.

It would be around 4-5 nights when you throw in the value of meals and park tickets, but the point is you can get a longer vacation for the same money if you go elsewhere.

Lightspeed Compass Galactic Starcruiser

However, if you are a huge Star Wars fan and you love the idea of interacting with the characters and are willing to play along and be an active participant in the missions, it will probably be one of the best-themed entertainment experiences you will have in your life.

I’m not kidding, it’s truly incredible what Disney Imagineers were able to create here, they just raised the bar big-time.

So far, guests have been mostly positive about the experience, and it will be interesting to see what they say a year or more from now and if the momentum will continue for this one-of-a-kind resort experience.

Read our post “ Is the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Worth It? ” for a more detailed breakdown of why or why not it would be worth it for you, as well as other vacation options to compare it to.

Ziggy Knows Disney close

My name is Ziggy and I love Disney, everything Disney! I grew up on Disney and it has and continues to be a huge part of my life. I started young when my parents took me to Disney World when I was 18 months old. Little did they know that would be the first of an uncountable number of trips we would take. I have so many amazing memories going to Disney with my family and friends and it has been interwoven into my DNA.

George Mells

Saturday 20th of May 2023

Like many others I felt that the Starcruiser prices were crazy for what is basically a 2 night and 1 1/2 day experience. (In after 1 PM day one and out by 10 AM day three). A family of four could take a 7 day cruise for the same price. I understand that a large cast member staff is needed but staff of a cruise ship may have a smaller passenger to staff ratio. As others have mentioned, it may be that the accountants at Disney wanted to pay the construction costs off in one year. We also have to think that Disney does not make many mistakes but they do often modify attractions based on feedback, like the extra wild ride that Space Mountain originally had or the rebranding of the California Adventure "Tower of Terror" into the Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout. While announcing the closing the the Starcruiser might be another reaction to the current Florida political scene, like the announcement of the cancelling of the new administrative complex (I doubt many California residents are anxious to move to Florida) I expect that Disney will rework the Starcruiser concept into something that more people can afford. Let's face it, a Disney park has been a premium vacation destination for a lot of years and people have just accepted it. Even their cruise ships have premium pricing. Disney is the Apple of the vacation destinations, quality products at overly premium pricing.

Michael Nelson

Bookings are open: How to get a reservation for the new Star Wars hotel at Disney World

Summer Hull

Update : Some offers mentioned below are no longer available. View the current offers here .

If you're a Star Wars fan like we are, you've likely been taking in all of the updates about the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel for the last few years as feverishly as we have. This is set to be more than a hotel, but rather a two-night immersive experience, unlike anything Disney World has offered before beginning on March 1, 2022.

And now we're back with the news everyone has been waiting for: hopeful Jedis and resistance fighters can start booking reservations now. Just get ready, you'll need cash, patience, flexibility and perhaps a little bit of the Force to snag one of these coveted reservations, currently bookable only over the phone.

Buckle up and hold onto your lightsabers — here's everything we know about the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel.

How to book Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser

The Star Wars: Galactic Cruiser will open for guests on March 1, 2022, located just behind Disney's Hollywood Studios.

As of Oct. 28, 2021, bookings are currently open to all potential guests, though some people, including Annual Passholders and Disney Visa cardholders, had early access to reservations so some dates are already sold out.

Based on a booking calendar on Disney's website , bookings for the experience are currently available from March through September 2022 for predetermined, two-night slots notated by orange lines, as shown below. According to the website, "Availability is for informational purposes, only updated periodically and subject to change when you call."

star wars cruise ship hotel price

The only way to book Star Wars: Galactic Cruiser is to call Disney directly at (407) 939-1800, however, we haven't successfully been able to get through today. The other option is to work with a Disney vacation planner, like our no-cost partners at Mouse Counselors , who can wait on the phone and make a booking for you. There is no online booking option available at the moment. You'll need to be ready to put 20% down to make the reservation.

When calling, even if you can get through, expect long hold times, potentially lasting for hours, to get through to the reservation center, which is open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern time.

If you're planning on booking yourself, it's critical to have the following information ready as part of Disney's "Ready-to-book Checklist."

  • Voyage date preferences (including alternates, as availability may be limited)
  • Number of people in your party
  • Names and ages of all people in your party, including any infants
  • Address and phone number for all people in your party
  • Preference for first or second dinner seating
  • Any additional activities you would like to book (some additional activities may not be available yet when you call)
  • Any desired dates for Disney Resort hotel reservations before or after your Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser voyage

Disney recommends having alternate preferred dates, desired dates for other Disney hotels you'd like to book before or after your voyage, and any additional activities you want to add to your journey (such as an appointment at Savi's Workshop to get your very own lightsaber) ready to go when you book to speed up the process and make it smoother for everyone.

As you can see from the calendar above, plenty of dates — including most of June — are already booked up. It's not clear how quickly this calendar is being updated in real-time, so we can't stress enough how critical it is to be flexible in trying to snag a reservation early on.

Also, keep in mind that a stay at Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser includes entry into Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge inside Disney's Hollywood Studios for an excursion to the planet of Batuu.

How much does the Star Wars hotel cost?

This part is maybe more painful than a fall into a Sarlacc pit. Prices for the experience are all in the thousands of dollars range.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

Based on these prices, you'll be paying at least $749 per person and per night. All in all, a family of four should expect to spend close to $6,000 or more for the two-night voyage — and that's for a standard cabin on weeknight voyages set months after the reported opening timeframe.

While we don't have sample pricing for the two suite options, it's not outside the realm of possibility that you could be paying $10,000 total.

It's a shockingly steep price for an experience that will only last two nights and rings in even more expensive than most of the three-night Disney Cruise Line sailings. Unless prices change dramatically in the future, it will exclude a large number of families from being able to book — especially if you're hoping to tack this experience onto a larger Disney trip that includes other parks and resort stays.

Your voyage price does include meals plus entry to Disney's Hollywood Studios on the second day of your journey. Each guest will get two breakfasts, two lunches and two dinners onboard the ship (which includes gratuity for dinner). You'll also get one quick-service meal (one entrée and one drink for adults, or one combo meal for kids 3 to 9) at Hollywood Studios.

And while not confirmed on Disney's website, the teaser video from Disney's Imagineers made it seem like there would be specialty pricing at Galaxy's Edge souvenir shops for guests.

Even still, a minimum of close to $5,000 dollars for a two-night stay, meals and access to one park during one day is quite the entry-level price tag. Whether this experience is worth emptying your "credits" bank will depend on how much you value the immersive experience Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser promises to deliver during your voyage.

It's not just a Star Wars hotel — it's an experience

If what you want is just a Star Wars-themed place to sleep, this is not the hotel for you. I recommend a lunch reservation at Space 220 in Epcot and then calling it a day as far as the space theme goes. This is far more themed cruise ship on land than hotel.

When Disney's first "Star Wars"-themed hotel opens, your family will be able to board a launch pod near Disney's Hollywood Studios before making the hyperspace jump and not touching back down on Earth again for two nights — or, at least, that's what it will look and feel like.

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is set to change the rules when it comes to theme park hotels and immersive experiences.

This is set to be a two-night immersive adventure aboard the Starship Halcyon as you travel to Galaxy's Edge. It really does make more sense to think of it as a Disney cruise on land where you live out a "Star Wars" story, in that meals, lodging, entertainment and activities are all part of the package.

Upon arrival at the "terminal," you'll complete your earthly tasks (with included valet parking) and then enter a launch pod that blasts you off into space toward the Halcyon ship for your boarding with the main starcruiser.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

Along the way, the "windows" above will show you the stars as well as the space cruiser in the distance. You'll no longer see Central Florida at all — the magic of technology will completely immerse you in the scenes of outer space.

You'll then dock with Halcyon, hearing the "whoosh" of the airlock as your launch pod engages and you'll emerge into the ship's atrium. Once onboard, you'll start two nights and three days of your Star Wars dreams.

Inside the cabins and suites onboard

The goal is for the Galactic Starcruiser experience to truly feel like you're a character in the Star Wars canon universe. Therefore, the ship was designed for a smaller, more intimate group of passengers. There are only 100 total cabins and suites will be available for booking.

For comparison, Disney's Caribbean Beach has around 2,000 rooms, and even the more intimate deluxe hotels, such as Disney's Contemporary Resort, still ring in at more than 600 rooms. And, just for clarity, even at those larger sizes the deluxe resorts regularly sell out.

Disney has released renderings of a guest room mock-up, and they're awesome if you ever wanted to live aboard a starcruiser.

There's a door, bed, bathroom and a window out into space. But that's pretty much where the similarities to regular resort rooms end.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

The bunk beds are meticulously themed pods that kids are sure to love. Each bunk/pod has its own command center. A slightly less cool queen is available for Resistance members to get sleep before their next mission.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

Looking out from the pod, we see plenty of features to be excited about. There's a video monitor on the wall that appears to be interactive (with the name of the fictional Johnston family displayed). Underneath could be storage or other hidden goodies.

There will also be a pulldown bed available in the rooms that sleep five. Disney has even found a way to fold the HVAC into the theming, with some cool vents on the exterior wall.

Where we would normally find a hotel window, we have a view of the galaxy flying by as Halcyon is on its journey. Every cabin will have at least one window out into the galaxy.

Disney has also released details about the three types of accommodations that will be available for new recruits.

Related: How to use points to buy Disney tickets

Standard cabins

Standard cabins can sleep four to five passengers. According to Disney, the room will come with a queen bed, two berths (aka: bunk beds) that will fit an adult, and a wall pull-down bed that can also sleep an adult if you are sleeping five to a cabin.

Amenities include:

  • Mini fridge
  • Safe (to keep valuable information safe from the Republic)
  • Phone with voicemail messaging (for keeping up with anyone left behind on Earth)
  • Interactive TV
  • H20 Plus spa, bath and shower products

Galaxy class suite

These one-bedroom suites will sleep up to four passengers with one queen bed and two wall pull-down beds that can sleep adults. Additionally, the suite will come with a double vanity bathroom, bar area, two windows (instead of one), a living space and "extra Star Wars surprises."

Other cabin amenities will be the same as the standard cabin.

Grand Captain suite

For larger groups or families, the Grand Captain suit will fit up to eight passengers with two queen beds, two berths, and two wall pull-down beds.

According to Disney, the suite will "feature a posh living space," a second bathroom, three windows and "a few extra Star Wars surprises."

Other amenities will be the same as the other two accommodations.

Onboard activities

As mentioned, part of your multiday journey on Halcyon, you'll take a special journey to Black Spire Outpost on Batuu (also known as Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge ). You'll be invited to the bridge of Halcyon to demonstrate navigation and defense skills you've learned and maybe even get a chance to pilot the galactic starcruiser.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

Kids and adults alike will follow in the footsteps of Luke, training to use the extremely realistic-looking lightsaber (for those aged seven and up). During the voyage, they'll be allowed to explore the mechanics of the ship and may even find hidden spots where the crew holds meetings. After all that hard work, there's a place to relax called the Sublight Lounge.

When it comes time for a full meal (after all, being a Jedi is hard work), guests can head to the Crown of Corellia Dining Room. This name is a tribute to Corellia, a planet known for its famous shipyards that were the origin of not only the Halcyon but also the Millennium Falcon. It will serve breakfast, lunch and then a "lavish multicourse menu of both otherworldly and familiar origins" for dinner.

On your last night onboard, there will be an end-of-cruise gala celebration, and Disney invites guests to "save your very finest" for the occasion.

You'll be able to dress in full costume (subject to Disney's costume guidelines), and Star Wars galaxy apparel (including robes fit for a Jedi-in-training) will be available in advance from shopDisney or on the ship.

You can check out a sample itinerary on Disney's website .

Based on what the Disney Imagineers have to say about the Galactic Starcruiser experience, you'll have the chance to partake in a truly unique journey that takes place in the canon Star Wars universe.

The storyline for the Galactic Starcruiser was developed alongside the stories for Smuggler's Run and Rise of the Resistance, and those rides — along with other included experiences throughout Batuu (Galaxy's Edge at Hollywood Studios) — should connect to the broader story told aboard the Halcyon.

After riding Rise of the Resistance and dining at Space 220, seeing just a hint of the technology that will be on display throughout your journey aboard the Halcyon, we expect for it to truly feel like we're a new recruit for the Resistance — especially at such a high price tag.

Bottom line

The countdown to make your bookings is over and now we can officially countdown to the opening of the Galactic Starcruiser hotel on March 1, 2022.

The price for this Star Wars experience is undeniably high, but the experience is set to be unforgettable. For those who can find a way to get on board, it looks like a very immersive two-night experience that will keep you active in the world that George Lucas first created from the moment you board the launchpad that takes you to the starcruiser until the moment you "land" back on Earth.

Just make sure to act fast to secure your group's slot on this intimate journey to a galaxy far, far away.

Things To Do

Disneyland | galactic starcruiser: everything you need to know about disney world’s star wars hotel.

The new Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel will debut on March 1 next door to the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge themed land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

After valet parking at Walt Disney World, Halcyon passengers will step inside an airlock and board a launch pod that will rocket them into outer space toward the Galactic Starcruiser where their fate will be decided in an epic Star Wars story of their own making.

For the next three days and two nights, the galactic cruise ship passengers will hatch plots against the First Order, fall in with a band of underworld smugglers and sip space cocktails for as long as they can suspend disbelief and buy into the interstellar cosplay theater of what’s being billed as the “most immersive Star Wars experience ever created.”

There’s only one important rule on the Halcyon: Never use the H word. The Galactic Starcruiser is an intergalactic voyage, not an earthbound hotel.

SEE ALSO: Where Disney World’s 50th anniversary attractions could fit at Disneyland

If the new Star Wars hotel proves popular and lives up to all the hype, a sister ship to the Halcyon could be docking someday soon next to the Galaxy’s Edge themed land at Disneyland.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

If you’ve always dreamed of living inside a “Star Wars” movie then you’ve come to the right place. We’ve got everything you need to know about the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park.

No discussion of the Galactic Starcruiser can begin without first talking about the elephant in the room: The out-of-this-world cost of a two-night stay on the Halcyon.

Prices for the Star Wars voyage start at $4,800 for a two-person cabin and go up to $6,000 for a four-person room.

If you’re doing the math, that works out to approximately $750 to $1,200 per person per night depending on how many people you cram into your cabin during the 45-hour galactic journey.

Those are starting prices. You can and likely will spend much more. The Halcyon is not for the faint of wallet. Families will be spending at least $100 an hour for the privilege of flying aboard the jewel of the Chandrila Star Line.

The best way to think of your Galactic Starcruiser experience is as a three-day, two-night trip aboard a luxury cruise ship — albeit one that travels to a galaxy far, far away.

What’s included in a Galactic Starcruiser vacation package?

A cabin or suite, all your meals, a host of ship activities, tickets to Disney’s Hollywood Studios and valet parking on Earth. We’ll get into what’s not included in a bit.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

The backstory of the Galactic Starcruiser is that you and your family have left your car with the Disney World valet and embarked on a Star Wars adventure of your own. Say goodbye to your Florida vacation for a few days. You’re departing on a space cruise that promises to be filled with lightsaber training, alien encounters and the occasional TIE fighter attack.

You’re about to become a character in the “Star Wars” movie of your dreams as you are completely immersed in a show that is constantly unfolding all around you — all aboard a “cruise ship on land” that never leaves Florida, nevermind the galaxy.

You can kick back, watch the kids play and drink space cocktails at inflated prices — but that’s not really the point of this vacation. There’s no pool on the Halcyon to dip your feet into and no sunshine to bronze your tan. You’re on a Star Wars cruise ship in outer space. If you’re not planning on buying into the immersive backstory, then the Galactic Starcruiser is probably not worth your time or money.

That said, passengers are under no obligation to engage. This isn’t an acting gig. It’s your vacation. Play hard or stargaze. It’s up to you. If you aren’t interested in the scheduled itinerary, feel free to explore the ship. But don’t be surprised if you unexpectedly bump into a Wookiee or ball droid.

SEE ALSO: Disneyland launched Star Tours 35 years ago with an epic 60-hour party

The Galactic Starcruiser experience is equal parts live-action role-playing game, immersive theater and culinary extravaganza dreamed up by the theme park wizards at Walt Disney Imagineering. You’re encouraged to take part in the intrigue, mystery and adventure at every step of the journey. Disney promises the Galactic Starcruiser will be like nothing else you’ve ever experienced.

At its core, the Galactic Starcruiser is a first-of-its-kind choose your own adventure experience within an epic Star Wars story where you are the hero.

The experience is so all-encompassing that the FAQ section on the Disney website actually answers the question: Does Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser really take passengers into space?

Disney’s begrudging answer: The Galactic Starcruiser voyage is not an actual trip into space.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

Your journey aboard the Halcyon starts at the Galactic Starcruiser Terminal at Disney World where you and your fellow travelers will board a launch pod and rendezvous with the starcruiser in outer space.

The launch pod’s viewports allow passengers to watch their jump to hyperspace. Once docked with the Halcyon, the airlock opens with a whoosh and the passengers step into the ship’s grand atrium flanked by holographic columns.

Crew members will deliver your luggage to your cabin. Only registered guests are allowed in the terminal or aboard the starcruiser.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

The 100-cabin Halcyon is a Corellian MPO-1400 model starcruiser and the jewel of the Chandrila Star Line, according to the Star Wars backstory created for the experience.

The recently refurbished and reoutfitted ship is known throughout the Star Wars galaxy for its legendary glamor, style and comfort. The Chandrila Star Line pioneered hyperdrive travel with its Purgill-class starcruisers and the Halcyon continues that spirit of adventure and romance of exploration. The interplanetary travel group voyages to exotic destinations throughout the far reaches of the Star Wars galaxy — from the Core Worlds to the Outer Rim.

Halcyon passengers are encouraged to wear Star Wars costumes — conveniently available in advance from ShopDisney or on board the starcruiser. Earthly clothes are permitted — but, come on, you’ve already dropped five grand on this trip. What’s another few hundred to don your galactic best?

In addition to Jedi robes and other Star Wars attire, the Chandrila Collection gift shop sells Twi’lek and Togruta lekku headgear and Chandrila Star Line jewelry, glassware, pins, ornaments and ship models.

SEE ALSO: 4 ways technology powers the Disneyland ‘metaverse’

Disney has a bunch of rules about costumes, so check the guidelines before building your wardrobe. Headwear can’t cover the face. No obstructive, offensive, objectionable or violent costumes are allowed. Props can’t resemble actual weapons. Sharp or pointed objects are prohibited. And, yes, you can bring your lightsaber.

Passengers can dress as their favorite Star Wars character, but they can’t pose for photos or sign autographs for fellow Halcyon travelers.

The choices you make and actions you take on your Galactic Starcruiser adventure will determine the Star Wars story you experience. The entire ship becomes a stage throughout your journey. Will you plot a secret mission to assist the First Order? Have you ever dreamed of becoming an underworld smuggler? Do you want to explore the ship’s inner workings in the Engineering Room? The Halcyon is your playground.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

The multiday experience means your choices may matter later during the cruise. Form alliances. Play both sides. It’s up to you. But remember your decisions could come back to haunt you later. Actions have consequences on the Halcyon.

Many of the interactive experiences will require the Star Wars Datapad smartphone app or an exclusive Galactic Starcruiser MagicBand RFID wristband — both of which are included with your voyage. The earthbound tech allows passengers to receive communications from the Halcyon crew and interact with sensors throughout the ship.

The Halcyon promises up-close interactions with Star Wars characters — from stormtroopers and First Order officers to droids and even Chewbacca. But that’s all pretty old hat for anybody who has visited Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland or Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

SEE ALSO: Which Star Wars characters can — and can’t — appear in Disneyland’s Galaxy’s Edge

What other Star Wars characters will passengers meet on the Halcyon?

Concept art shows a tattooed Zabrak that looks like Darth Maul dining with passengers, a horned blue alien playing holo-sabacc in the Sublight Lounge and a Mon Calamari amphibious creature greeting guests in the lobby. Disney has overpromised Star Wars character interactions in the past — so we will have to see who actually shows up on the Halcyon.

Several new Star Wars characters have been created just for the Galactic Starcruiser experience — including Halcyon Captain Riyola Keevan and Cruise Director Lenka Mok, First Order Lt. Harman Croy and Sammie the ship’s mechanic. There are also a couple of new droids: The SK-62O astromech who serves as the assistant cruise director and D3-O9 who handles the ship’s logistics.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

What will you do for 45 hours on the Halcyon?

There’s no casino on this cruise ship — but there’s no shortage of things to keep you busy and separate you from your money.

Passengers can arrive at the terminal between 1 and 4 p.m. on the day of their departure — and you should plan on arriving as close to 1 p.m. as possible if you don’t want to miss anything.

SEE ALSO: How Disneyland’s Galaxy’s Edge fits into the Star Wars universe

There are light refreshments and Sabacc lessons before the 4 p.m. muster and captain’s reception. Dinner with live music starts as early as 5:30 p.m. The evening continues with an Outer Rim Regalia fashion gala and special atrium entertainment.

At some point on Day 1 there will be an “unexpected story moment” — which shouldn’t be too unexpected if you’re following the ship’s fixed itinerary. This will be your chance to join an elite smuggling ring or hide a stowaway to help the Resistance.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

Day 2 starts early with breakfast at 7 a.m. before taking a transport shuttle from the Halcyon to Batuu, the Star Wars planet at the heart of the Galaxy’s Edge theme land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The real-world box truck exterior of the transport shuttle isn’t too glamorous, but all you’ll see is the elaborate Star Wars interior.

Adults will be reminded to adhere to local etiquette on Batuu — where costumes are only allowed for kids 13 and younger.

SEE ALSO: 3 unused Star Wars ride concepts dreamed up by Imagineering for Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland

The Batuu excursion features Lightning Lane access to the Rise of the Resistance and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run attractions and lunch at the Docking Bay 7 restaurant — all included in the price of the Galactic Starcruiser vacation package. Building a $220 lightsaber or $100 droid in Galaxy’s Edge is not included in your Halcyon voyage — and neither are drinks at Oga’s Cantina . The final transport shuttle from Batuu back to the Halcyon departs at 4 p.m.

You won’t want to spend too much time on Batuu — it’s nothing more than a tourist trap anyway. There’s plenty happening on the Halcyon during the rest of Day 2. The afternoon is filled with droid racing competitions, model ship building and sabacc tournaments.

Peppered throughout the itinerary are more planned and unplanned story moments. Want to broker a heist or steal a ship from the First Order? Here’s your chance.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

You certainly won’t want to miss the lightsaber lessons and bridge training. Padawans will learn to wield the Jedi weapon while facing off against a remote training device and help navigate the Halcyon from the ship’s bridge. Rest assured the Halcyon is equipped with blast shields and turbo-lasers should the ship stumble into an unforeseen galactic entanglement during an unexpected story moment. Shipwide announcements will notify passengers of notable passing landmarks.

SEE ALSO: Disney teases ‘real’ Star Wars lightsaber

While the kids have their fun, the adults can retire to the Sublight Lounge for a space cocktail or two before the “Taste Around the Galaxy” dinner. As a reminder, alcoholic and specialty drinks are not included in the cost of the Halcyon vacation package. Day 2 ends with a spectacular finale party.

The Crown of Corellia dining room offers a la carte breakfast and lunch throughout the day before transforming into a supper club each evening with live musical entertainment plus a few more chapters in your Star Wars story. Twi’lek singer Gaya will be the headline entertainer aboard the Starship Halcyon.

Like a cruise ship, the Halcyon will offer multiple dinner seatings with passengers seated with other parties. Passengers can request a seat at the Captain’s Table for $30 per person.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

Dinner courses will take inspiration and source ingredients from planets throughout the Star Wars galaxy.

Crown of Corellia dishes will have Star Wars names like Felucian blue shrimp and Mustafarian bread while the ship’s chefs will offer unique but familiar interstellar takes on seafood like ceviche, calamari and squid. Among the standout space bites: A bubble waffle grilled cheese sandwich and purple focaccia bread with blue bantha milk butter. For dessert, why not try the lemon cheesecake with a yuzu Chantilly cream. You can wash it all down with a blue-green Hoth Frost drink topped with spun sugar ice and lemon foam.

SEE ALSO: Star Wars dinner theater planned for Disneyland jumps to Galactic Starcruiser hotel

The Instagram-ready culinary sensation that will set social media atwitter: A miso salmon dish with a crunchy seaweed crust topped with bonito flakes that twitch and shrink as they are served.

Breakfast will feature earthly entrees along with fruit juice and coffee as well as Bubo Wamba Family Farms blue milk. Lunch will be similarly earthbound with sandwiches, soups, flatbreads, salads and sweets.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

The third and final day aboard the Halcyon is pretty much all about disembarking after breakfast. You should be picking up your valeted car back on earth by 10 a.m. The Halcyon apologizes for the early check out, but the ship needs to get ready for another departure in just a few hours.

It’s pretty clear the Galactic Starcruiser is much more than a hotel since we haven’t even talked about your sleeping quarters yet.

Halcyon cabins and suites spread across three decks feature space windows that offer views of passing ships, planets and the occasional battle. You’ll fall asleep each night and wake every morning among the stars. There’s a button to close the blinds if you can’t sleep with all the activity buzzing in your space window.

The Halcyon also offers a climate simulator that replicates Earth’s atmosphere for any passenger who needs a bit of fresh air or a little blue sky. The Galactic Starcruiser hotel has no exterior windows looking out onto its Florida surroundings — all in order to keep you sealed in a Star Wars bubble.

star wars cruise ship hotel price

The futuristic Standard Cabins that sleep up to five are furnished with a pullout table, a TV beaming entertainment from Earth and a queen bed, two bunk beds and a pull-down bed.

Galaxy Class Suites offer two space windows, more living and bathroom space, a seating area and a bar plus extra Star Wars surprises.

The Grand Captain’s Suite — which sleeps eight — adds an extra bedroom and bathroom as well as a third space window.

No word yet if the Halcyon’s honeymoon suite where Han Solo and Princess Leia Organa slept — according to a new Star Wars book — will be available to passengers.

Unlike on a cruise ship, you won’t be asked to include a gratuity at the end of your Halcyon voyage. Gratuity is included for meals but not for maid service or valet parking. The starcruiser staff prefers American dollars rather than Star Wars galactic credits — if you have any of either currency left after your trip.

A stay at Disney’s Star Wars hotel will cost up to $6,000

You might want to start saving your Galactic Credits if you’re hoping to experience Disney’s inclusive Star Wars hotel .

The company has unveiled new details about Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser , including the price tag, which will range from $4,809 for two guests to just under $6,000 for a family of four. Stays at the hotel will last two nights and begin in spring 2022.

To make the experience more personal, the Galactic Starcruiser has just 100 cabins.

The Galactic Starcruiser is a lot more than a hotel, though. Disney has designed it to be an immersive experience where fans get to live out a Star Wars story, with regular entertainment throughout the ship/hotel and an interactive story guests can take part in (from joining a smuggling ring to helping to steal a ship from the First Order). Other features include lightsaber training , sabacc tournaments, and droid racing. They will even learn to operate the Starcruiser’s bridge.

“Explore the working bridge of the legendary Halcyon Starcruiser and learn how it functions from the crew during this hands-on experience,” the hotel’s website says. “The crew will teach you how the navigation, power, defense, and other critical systems keep the Halcyon Starcruiser safe from unforeseen galactic entanglements. These skills may even come in handy should critical situations arise later in your voyage.”

The price also includes admission to Disney’s Hollywood Studios and that park’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge attractions, including the wildly popular Rise of the Resistance ride. Missions on that “planetary excursion” will influence events when you return to the Starcruiser, the company says. Meals are also included, excluding alcoholic and specialty beverages.

Guests can expect to encounter and interact with characters from the Star Wars universe, and every room’s window will offer a view of that galaxy far, far away, with ships, planets, and other cosmic sights.

Disney’s new Star Wars hotel experience, called Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser , is a spectacle that’s almost overpowering in motion. The media giant has spent nearly seven years developing the immersive Star Wars experience, investing millions of dollars into a new facility, novel technologies, and intensive training for its staff.

This week, Polygon was invited to Walt Disney World for an abbreviated four-hour preview of what would normally be a 60-hour-plus experience. What we found isn’t Westworld , not by a long shot. The narrative isn’t dynamic so much as elastic. You can’t steer the story off course by sheer force of will, push the bad guy out an airlock, or hook up with a robot. However, if you put in the effort, you will experience moments of profoundly intimate immersive theater.

It’s far from perfect. I found that the facility itself feels tiny, at times verging on claustrophobic. The price point — roughly $5,000 for a family of four for a two-night stay — puts it well out of reach for many American households. And the actual hotel experience of it all would fall flat without the cast of characters, a team of skilled, tireless actors who help bring this corner of the galaxy to stunning life. In spite of those flaws, it’s an experience I’ll always remember, something of a dream come true for a Star Wars fan.

Steel bollards block the way into a massive concrete bunker. Guests stream out of a waiting bus.

The journey starts curbside, as most trips to a hotel do. Guests arrive by bus or car at a shockingly spartan, almost brutalist concrete bunker. That’s when the claustrophobia starts to creep in. Guests are escorted down a narrow hallway, into a tiny chamber dressed up to look like a small shuttlecraft. From there, thanks to a few hydraulic rams and a pair of clever viewport-shaped computer screens, you’re transported up into orbit.

When the door finally opens, you’re inside the atrium of the Halcyon. The flagship of the Chandrila Star Line, it’s a storied vessel with a 275-year history that reaches all the way back to the High Republic , Disney’s newest chapter in the Star Wars universe. The two-story atrium is its beating heart, a crossroads and a meeting place where guests are first introduced to the ship’s main characters.

The captain of the ship, wearing blue facepaint. Her hair is dark red.

I first met captain Riyola Keevan, a blue-skinned Pantoran with a steady hand on the tiller and a penchant for rebellion. Standing nearby holding court with her manager, the roguish human Raithe Kole, was Gaya, a flamboyant Twi’lek singer who serves as the main act in the evening’s dinner entertainment. I also met Ouannii, a Rodian musician played by an actor wearing an animatronic mask and headdress. While she understands English, Ouannii only speaks Huttese, which makes communication via pantomime a joyous necessity.

There are about a dozen main characters in all, including First Order members and Chewbacca. The staff remains firmly in character the entire time, offering up threads of storylines that guests can interrogate and explore over the course of their stay. Will you join lieutenant Harman Croy in his mission to root out Resistance forces aboard the ship? Or will you help junior mechanic Sammie smuggle aboard some stolen First Order technology? The choice is yours to make during your stay, and the decisions you make will directly impact the narrative you experience along the way — and the kinds of activities you get to do later on during your stay.

On the bridge of the Halcyon, guests marvel as the ship jumps into hyperspace.

Some of those activities feel a bit like escape rooms, albeit incredibly elaborate ones. While on the bridge, I worked with a partner at a command console, flipping switches and turning dials to move cargo around and take down enemy TIE fighters. The action played out on a massive curved screen. The feeling of moving through hyperspace, with the dark of space smeared into signature starlines warping above and around me, was exhilarating.

Other activities feel like stumbling into a short film where you and the other guests around you are the stars of the show.

At one point, I was ushered into an open-air courtyard, a kind of in-fiction holodeck used to simulate the surface of Batuu, home to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge . That’s where one of the Saja, a descendent of the Guardians of the Whills that played such a key role in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story , plucked me out of the crowd. Together, we reached out with our minds and our hearts. Thanks to a little Disney magic (and a hefty set of electromagnets, no doubt) I used the Force for the first time. I felt silly, scared, and just a little bit vulnerable, but I also felt an uncanny connection to that character, named Keer — and to the Star Wars universe itself.

That sort of intimacy gives way in the end to a spectacular climax. The entire atrium is filled with a battle between the Resistance and the First Order. A stand-in for Rey is there, deflecting invisible laser blasts as troopers fire sparking squibs madly all around her. An actor portraying Kylo Ren makes an appearance as well, literally bringing the house down in a Force-fueled rage. Every single one of those marquee characters — including new friends like Saja Keer — gets their chance in the spotlight.

A Saja — a Force-sensitive tutor — and the captain herself, hold First Order troopers at gunpoint.

Galactic Starcruiser’s immersive story isn’t just fluff. It fills a gap in the larger storyline, papering over some curious plot holes between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker . The overall story arc is inspirational, and makes the ship itself — and by extension, its hundreds of guests — an integral part of this beloved universe. It’s marvelous theater, and an authentic Star Wars experience. But those narrative triumphs make the facility’s flaws stand out all the more.

The Halcyon’s interior scale just doesn’t match up to the grand ship shown in marketing materials. I expected the atrium to be taller, the banquet hall to be wider. The cantina — home to the ship’s bar and its singular holographic Sabaac table — is at most half the size of Oga’s Cantina in Galaxy’s Edge. Liminal spaces, like hallways and stairwells, feel particularly sterile, like wandering around a suburban junior high school built in the mid-1970s. The staterooms are also entirely too small, falling somewhere in between the narrow cabins of a Disney cruise ship and a basic hotel room in a Disney World resort hotel.

My Halcyon experience was far from complete — for one thing, it was about 60 hours shorter than the full paid stay, cutting short the vast majority of the in-flight narrative content. But also, the Data Pad app, an invaluable part of my experience at Galaxy’s Edge , simply wasn’t available for me to try out. I was told that it extends the experience outside of the ship, turning Batuu into a sort of scavenger hunt that only Galactic Starcruiser guests get to experience. Similarly, I would have loved to have been in costume the entire time. Homemade garb is encouraged, and Disney-made apparel is available for sale before and during your stay on board the ship, but wasn’t offered to the press during our junket. Seeing so many guests in street clothes definitely broke the immersion for me at times.

Ultimately, individual guests’ visit to the Halcyon will depend a lot on the energy of the other Star Wars fans at their side during a given stay. Those who buy into the fiction, who take it upon themselves to start trouble or to make friends, will have the best experience. Just be prepared to pay a pretty penny for the privilege.

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Complete Guide

by Dan Leonard Dec 29, 2022

Complete Guide to Star Wars:Galactic Starcruiser

Atrium of the Halcyon, Star Wars:Galactic Starcruiser

With its first cruise launching in March, 2022, the Star Wars:Galactic Starcruiser is Walt Disney World Resort’s newest and most advanced example of Disney storytelling brought to life. Guests have the opportunity to go beyond just watching the action unfold- they become characters in an all new Star Wars adventure, where everyone has the chance to be the hero (or villain, if that’s more your speed). This guide will give you all the (spoiler free) information you need to set sail on your own galactic adventure!

What is this Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser thing, anyhow?

Not just a hotel.

One of the most difficult things to understand for people who haven’t experienced the Starcruiser for themselves is what exactly is this experience all about? It’s unfortunate that most news stories and bloggers have been calling it the “Star Wars hotel” since it opened. The experience is so much deeper than just a themed hotel. A trip on the Galactic Starcruiser is like a 2-night murder mystery dinner party with Hollywood level production values, mixed with a live action choose-your-own-adventure book, wrapped up in a fully immersive atmosphere that allows guests to live in the Star Wars universe.

A Cruise Through The Galaxy

It’s also a legit cruise. Whether the ship actually goes anywhere is up to your imagination. It has all the makings of a cruise in outer space. Guests arrive and are escorted to their staterooms. A muster drill is required during the first day. There is fabulous gourmet food at dinner, and delicious buffets for breakfast and lunch. Galaxy class entertainment and a wide range of shipboard entertainment and activities are arranged by the ship’s cruise director. The ship makes a port call (in this case to Blackspire Outpost on the planet Batuu), where guests can take part in shore excursions.

The experience of cruising on the Halcyon isn’t only for dedicated Star Wars fans. Whether you’re well versed in the lore of our favorite galaxy far, far away, or have a hard time telling a lightsaber from a Wookiee, the Galactic Starcruiser is an amazing opportunity to experience immersive storytelling on a level that’s unavailable anywhere else.

Things to know before you go

A little preparation can go a long way to having the best possible experience onboard the ship. Here are some important things to know about preparing  for your trip.

Booking and add-ons

While the Star Wars:Galactic Starcruiser experience can be booked directly through Disney, we strongly recommend getting help with the booking from your trusted Key to the World Travel Advisor. There are lots of little details and extra experiences that can be added on to your cruise. Your travel advisor not only knows how and when to make those reservations, but is also happy to spend the time on the phone to get them booked for you.

Extra experiences that must be booked in advance include:

  • Image Design Makeup Session: “Image Designers” come to your cabin onboard the Halcyon and create a custom face paint design to help transform you into your chosen alien species for your cruise. • Activities on Batuu: Your Key to the World Travel advisor can help you make advance reservations for all the activities on your shore excursion to Black Spire Outpost on Batuu, including building a lightsaber at Savi’s Workshop , designing a BB or R2 series droid at the Droid Depot , or reserving a table for drinks and snacks at Oga’s Cantina .

Who are you, and what do you look like?

This is where the fun really begins. Guests aren’t just allowed, but encouraged to dress the part! Costumes onboard the Star Wars:Galactic Starcruiser don’t have to be elaborate or screen quality. With a little thought and some time scrolling through your favorite online shopping site, you can easily put together a convincing “in universe” look for the cruise.

Name and planet of origin

Dan in Star Wars costume in front of the Millennium Falcon at Star Wars Galaxy's Edge

First, spend a little time thinking about your character, and what path you’d like to follow during the cruise. This can help influence your “look”. Made up character names aren’t necessary, but can be fun and help you feel more connected to the story.  Crew members will ask you where you’re from. Feel free to pick a planet from a Star Wars movie, tell them what city you live in, or make up a new home planet for yourself. No matter what you say, the crew members will play along accordingly.

Clothes make the character

Wyatt in Star Wars outfit on Batuu

The type of character you want to portray can influence your outfits.

  • Are you a Force sensitive student of the path of the Jedi? Light colored tunics and brown robes or cloaks fit the look. For a more subtle Force user look, consider emulating the Saja. The Saja are students and teachers of the ways of the Force and lightsaber combat about the ship. They dress in natural fibers, primarily dark blue with red accents. Look for accessories made of wood, stone, and other materials from nature.
  • Resistance sympathizers often dress in a paramilitary style, with lots of flight suits and tactical gear. You can also emulate Han Solo, Poe Dameron, Rey, or your favorite resistance fighter. Vests, scarves and fingerless gloves are popular accessories for this bunch. Please note that blasters and other weapons (with the exception of lightsabers) are not allowed on board the Galactic Starcruiser. However, a very popular and useful accessory is a “drop hip bag”-a belt pouch that straps around the thigh and resembles a blaster holster.
  • Are you more of a rogue or smuggler type? Imagine what a space pirate would look like, and run with it! Flamboyant jackets, scarves, flowing “pirate” tunics, and lots of flair help you fit the role.
  • If you feel like letting your dark side out, or are a First Order sympathizer,  pack plenty of black! Sleek, futuristic clothes in black or grey, with deep red accents are the perfect fit for this character type.
  • It can also be fun to let your imagine run wild. Want to be a member of an alien species? Watch some movies or check out some books, and go for it! Have a favorite character that speaks to you? Put together your best take on their signature look. There are plenty of resources online, including websites and Facebook costuming groups dedicated to the Galactic Starcruiser experience. Star Wars Visual Dictionary books are easy to find at your local library, and are great resources for costume ideas also.

Don’t forget, these are just recommendations. Use your imagination, and make your character look the way you want. Or don’t- costumes aren’t required, but definitely help to immerse you in the experience!

How much to pack for the Star Wars:Galactic Starcruiser experience

One question many guests have is just how much to pack for the cruise. The journey is 2 nights/1.5 days. The waking hours during the experience can get very busy, so a multitude of costume changes aren’t recommended. Of course, if you’re an expert at the quick change and want to go all out, feel free.

  • One to two looks can be perfect for your cruise. It’s a good idea to include visual elements that carry from one outfit to another, to help crew members recognize you if they need your help later in the trip. Don’t forget that Batuu has three suns, and your visit to the planet can be very warm-plan accordingly. You might want a fresh set of clothes after you return from the planet in case you get sweaty.
  • Even though both dinners during the cruise are extravagant affairs, formal dress isn’t required (although certainly welcome if you want to get fancy).
  • Comfortable shoes are a must-you spend a lot of time on your feet. For a relaxing cruise, things can get very busy and hectic, especially if the First Order decides to make an unscheduled appearance during your sailing.
  • What to expect on board the Star Wars:Galactic Starcruiser, and how to play the game
  • Make sure everyone in your party has a smart phone or device capable of installing apps and connecting to WiFi and Bluetooth. You’ll need this to receive communications from crew members, check your schedule, and complete various tasks around the ship. Old cellphones work great for younglings. If you don’t have a device for kids in your group, ask at the ship services counter in the atrium of the ship. They have loaner devices and can help you get set up.
  • Along with devices, each member of your party needs to have an account for the Play Disney Parks app. This app turns into the “datapad” which is the main tool for “playing” the game.

What to expect onboard the Star Wars:Galactic Starcruiser, and playing the “game”

The crew of the Star Cruiser do a great job of making sure everyone has the best experience possible. They subtly guide you through the cruise, and are always available to help if you run into technical difficulties.

Getting on and getting acclimated

Boarding the ship starts at 1 P.M., but you can arrive up to 2 hours early to navigate the parking line, check in, and line up to board. If you drive yourself, complimentary valet parking is required. Guests can also arrive by taxi or ride share.

Pro Tip! If you’re staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel prior to boarding the Star Wars:Galactic Starcruiser, make sure the front desk is aware of your cruise, and they’ll give you late checkout for embarkation day so you can stay in your room and prepare for boarding without rushing. The front desk can also arrange for complimentary transportation from your hotel to the starport where you board the Halcyon.

Once you’ve checked in, received your Em-bands (outer space magic bands), and cleared the bag check, you’ll take a transport shuttle up to the Halcyon. Crew members will greet you in the atrium, give you a brief tour of the ship, and take you to your stateroom.

Once settled in, make sure to keep an eye on the schedule in your Datapad. This will alert you to events such as the muster drill and Captain’s welcoming toast, as well as scheduled activities such as your bridge operations training session and lightsaber combat training.

Activities Onboard the Star Wars:Galactic Starcruiser

Holo Sabaac

During free time, feel free to explore all public areas of the ship. Make sure you push buttons, scan your Em-band, and poke around. You might unlock secrets that help draw you into the story of your cruise. Talk to crew members and characters you meet on board. This is one of the key ways you receive tasks and move through story lines during your cruise.

lightsaber training

Pro Tip! On day 2, your scheduled shuttle departure time for Batuu is more of a guideline than a strict rule. It’s a good idea to arrive at the shuttle bay earlier to catch one of the first transports out. This will help you get everything done before the heat of Batuu’s 3 suns reaches its peak, and allow you to spend plenty of time onboard the ship in the afternoon.

Food and drink on board the Star Wars:Galactic Starcruiser

There are many great options for dining and drinking around the galaxy. The best part is all food and most non-alcoholic drinks are included in your fare, so you can enjoy as much as you like without worrying about picking up the check!

  • For breakfast and lunch, visit the Crown of Corellia for an intergalactic buffet with familiar but reimagined foods that are really from a different world. Note, the menu for these buffets is different each day, so don’t miss out on the opportunity to stop in as often as possible!

  • Dinner each night in the Crown of Corellia dining room is a fantastic experience, with food that you really can’t get anywhere else. Try everything and be open to new things. Dinners are served family style, and if you want more of anything just let your server know. Also, feel free to order items off the younglings menu if you wish in addition to the main meal.

  • Food is available in the late afternoon in the Sublight Lounge, and is included in your fare. Take advantage of the variety of snacks, they’re amazing. The smoked cheese plate is a highlight!

  • The ship services counter has a rotating selection of snacks available throughout the day. The atrium also has a water station for refilling your stateroom’s water flask with still or sparkling water.
  • Guests receive a voucher for a meal and beverage at Docking Bay 7 during your shore excursion to Batuu. This voucher can be saved and used at any theme park quick service location on disembarkation day if you prefer.  Pro Tip! Unless you’ve never visited Batuu and really want to try the food offered at Docking Bay 7, we recommend you skip lunch on planet. The variety of food in the Crown of Corellia dining room for lunch day 2 is phenomenal and not to be missed!

star wars cruise ship hotel price

  • If you need a break from the action, head to your stateroom and check in with D3-09, the in room droid. She’ll frequently have messages for you on the comms center in your room, and will occasionally have tasks for you to help with. If she offers to tell you a bedtime story the first night, make sure to accept!

  • If a strange child approaches you in a public area of the ship and asks for help with a task, don’t be alarmed. It’s part of the story, so play along.
  • Talk to lots of people! Make friends with fellow passengers and crew members. Heavy roleplaying isn’t necessary, but it is important to play along. You get out of the experience what you put into it.
  • Push buttons, open doors, try to hack into computers that claim to be for crew access only. Even if nothing happens right away, it may unlock story elements later on.

Everything You Need to Know About Disney’s New ‘Galactic Starcruiser’ Star Wars Hotel—Including the Price

Mock-Up Cabin for Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser

If blasting off to a galaxy far, far away sounds like your bucket-list getaway, then this is the vacation you’re looking for. Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser , Disney’s new Star Wars Hotel experience, launches in spring 2022 at Walt Disney World. The two-day, two-night adventure will cost you a few more credits (that’s Star Wars speak for money) than your average Disney World hotel, but this is no ordinary hotel stay.

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser takes guests on an immersive, out-of-this-world “journey” aboard the Halcyon starcruiser. No, you don’t actually go to space, but from the moment you step aboard the Halcyon, you’ll feel like you’ve embarked on a sort of “space cruise.” The adventure begins at the terminal, where guests will board a launch pod and “blast off” to meet the Halcyon, which, so the story goes, is too large to land on a planet. Guests will see stars whiz by as they travel to the ship before entering the atrium through a pair of those iconic airlock “Star Wars” doors.

Choose-Your-Own Star Wars Adventure

Billed as a “first-of-its-kind Star Wars adventure that’s your own,” guests are promised a “bespoke experience” during which they’ll interact with a diverse group of Star Wars characters, both new and familiar, and will get the chance to explore the ship, dine on galactic cuisine, learn to wield a lightsaber, and play a round of Sabacc (think Star Wars poker) while sipping an exotic cocktail.

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Atrium

A  sample itinerary gives a taste of what’s in store during the experience. The first day includes a Captain’s Reception, dinner featuring live music, Outer Rim Regalia (space ball, anyone?), bridge training showcasing the inner workings of the ship, and an “unexpected story moment” that gives guests the opportunity to play their own role in the story.

Day two takes guests back on solid ground for a journey to the Outer Rim planet of Batuu, aka Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge , the Star Wars-themed land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Guests will remain in the story, traveling to the land in an immersive transport shuttle that will feel light years away from nearby Toy Story Land and the new Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway attraction.

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Transport

While on Batuu, guests will get the chance to ride both of the marquee attractions in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, plus have lunch at Docking Bay 7 Food & Cargo and enjoy another “story moment,” making them a part of the action on land just like on the ship.

Back on board the Halcyon, even grownups get to try their hand at lightsaber training (kids must be at least 7 to participate). Other activities include a droid racing competition, the chance to build a model ship, and a spectacular finale after dinner.

How Much Does Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Cost?

The two-night experience starts at $4,809 for two guests. For three guests (two adults and one child), the starting price increases to $5,299 ($885 per person per night) and for four guests (three adults and one child) it starts at $5,999.

The package price includes a two-night stay in one of the ship’s cabins or suites , as well as food and drinks (excluding alcoholic and specialty beverages), valet parking, entertainment, and a Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser databand (like a Walt Disney World MagicBand). The price also includes admission to Disney’s Hollywood Studios for the visit to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge as well as lunch at Docking Bay 7.

Millennium Falcon at Star Wars; Galaxy's Edge

You probably won’t want to spend too much time in your room when you could be out rubbing shoulders with Wookiees and and Twi’leks, but the immersion continues in your cabin or suite, where a window looks out into space as ships, planets, and stars float by. There are three room types offered on the Halcyon:

Standard Cabin – sleeps four to five passengers in a queen bed, 2 bunk beds (large enough for adults) and a wall pull-down bed.

Mock-Up Cabin for Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser

Galaxy Class Suite – one-bedroom suite featuring a living space and seating area plus a bar area, and two windows; sleeps four passengers in a queen bed plus two wall pull-down beds.

Grand Captain Suite – two-bedroom suite with a living space, seating area, second bathroom, bar area, and three windows into space; sleeps up to 8 passengers in two queen beds, 2 bunk beds, and 2 wall pull-down beds.

Ever since Luke Skywalker’s first sip of blue milk, fans have been captivated by thoughts of what the other-worldly food of the Star Wars universe might be like. Disney has already set a precedent within Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge for serving up incredible food , exotically presented yet palatable to the unadventurous, so expectations are high as to what they’ll cook up on the Halcyon.

Crown of Corellia Dining Room in Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser

Meals are served in the Crown of Corellia Dining Room, with a table-service supper club-style meal and live entertainment on the first night. Breakfasts and lunches will feature “colorful fare from all over the galaxy,” along with “familiar favorites from your home planet” for those who might not be ready to dig into more inventive dishes like a plate of vibrant blue shrimp, as seen in the Disney+ hit series, “The Mandalorian,” washed down with a cold glass of Bubo Wamba Family farms blue milk.

Dinner on the second night is a sort of intergalactic food festival, “The Taste Around the Galaxy,” showcasing dishes inspired by planets from across the Star Wars galaxy.

The Entertainment

Billed as “part live immersive theater, part themed environment,” don’t expect Broadway-style theater like on a typical cruise ship. Here, you’re part of the action. Guests are encouraged “dress the part” as they each become “a unique character in the  Star Wars  galaxy.” Expect in-the-moment interaction with Star Wars characters, plus some never-before-seen moments, like Rey wielding a real lightsaber.

“Watching that lightsaber activate right before your eyes will be just one of the countless ways that, from the moment you arrive to the moment you depart, you’ll be plunged into a Star Wars story where your decisions and actions — or even the casual conversations you may have — determine how your personal journey unfolds,” a  Disney Parks Blog post said .

It doesn’t take long after boarding Disney’s Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser to get pulled into the action. Much more than a hotel, the two-night immersive experience puts guests at the center of a role-playing adventure and, for the first time, gives Star Wars fans the opportunity to be part of the story.

Fans have been analyzing every press release and promotional video since news of the Galactic Starcruiser was announced almost five years ago —and the fervor only increased when Disney unveiled the multi-thousand dollar price tag last fall. When it finally opened to guests on March 1, the first several months of so-called ‘sailings’ were already sold out.

So far, Galactic Starcruiser makes good on its promises —and fulfills some of those initially made but forgotten for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge . Modeled as a cruise through the galaxy, the bulk of the experience takes place aboard the Halcyon, which is permanently moored in real life near Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park in Florida. Here, guests can finally take in a lively dinner theater, chat with alien creatures, and build their own personal character arc thanks to an app that tracks your actions and encounters for the duration of your visit.

Galactic Starcruiser plants guests firmly in the middle of a Star Wars adventur e of their own making, but what makes the experience truly special is its cast. While you can expect to encounter familiar faces like Rey, Kylo Ren, and Chewbacca during your visit, most of the characters on board are new to the Star Wars universe and developed just for this experience—with no shortcuts made when it comes to their depth.

Whether it was the crew member who told me under his breath that it “seems a little excessive” for stormtroopers to board a civilian vessel, the teacher who got visibly emotional guiding a guest through using the power of the force for the first time, or the ship’s captain who requested our help to thwart the First Order’s agenda, every crew member excels at making you feel like you’re part of the story. And as an introvert with a dislike of talking to ‘face characters’ like Cinderella in the Magic Kingdom or participating in improv in high school theater, I was surprised at how natural some of these conversations felt.

“What the cast would say is we’re often talking about making relationships,” says Mikhael Tara Garver, director of immersive experience for Galactic Starcruiser, and who was a director of Sleep No More at the American Repertory Theater. “They come off every sailing and remember all the guests that they met—truly. It’s a relationship, and that relationship you feel is real.”

The two-night stay comes with a hefty price tag, starting at about $4,800 for two adults and around $6,000 for a family of four, and that’s just for a handful of dates in August and September. Visit during spring break or over a holiday weekend and you can add at least $1,000 to that price.

But luxury pricing doesn’t exactly mean luxury accommodations.

You won’t find a spa, fitness center, or even room service aboard the Halcyon. Guest cabins are well designed but small, and not exactly overflowing with luxe amenities. The toiletries are in bulk containers secured to the wall (though there is a tin branded with the Halcyon logo containing facial wipes and foaming face masks that guests may take home), and there was only one visible usb outlet in a room that, on paper, accommodates five adults. A light and bright color scheme balances the lack of natural light so the space doesn’t feel claustrophobic, but larger groups will likely stumble over each other getting ready in the morning.

The cabins aren’t without some cool features, though. Two bunk beds, large enough for adults, are built into the wall to give a space sleepaway camp vibe, and each room has its own window into space with a video monitor that mirrors the action elsewhere in the ship—so if the Halcyon jumps to lightspeed, you’ll see it from your room.

There’s also a video screen that connects you to D3-O9, the ship’s logistics droid, who wants to know all about the adventures you’re having on board and works a bit like Alexa. (There’s no camera, and you can request to have the feature disabled.) But the droid isn't there to put in a request for fresh towels: D3-O9 is the result of Walt Disney Imagineering’s work to develop artificial intelligence character interactions.

“She’s your story concierge,” says Sara Thacher, creative lead in research and development with Walt Disney Imagineering. “We think of her like the best bartender. And you actually continue to develop a relationship with her and the choices that you’re making; the paths that you’re following matter with her as well.”

Don’t expect to spend much time lounging in your cabin, though. One of the most anticipated activities is the lightsaber training, a surprisingly aerobic exercise that requires adding some squats to your pre-voyage workout routine. Yet for all its hype, this is the one experience on board that fell flat. Taking place in a darkened room, the sabers have a tactile response with the training cube on the wall, so you’ll feel it when you make contact with a beam, but overall the routine was repetitive and the room felt uncomfortably crowded after two years of social distancing. I found myself preferring bridge training, where you learn to use the ship’s defensive systems—a series of delightfully chaotic team building games that play out on massive ‘windows’ at the front of the room.

A port excursion on day two, meanwhile, takes you off the ship to Batuu (a one-day ticket to Hollywood Studios is included) to experience Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and, if you choose, complete some covert missions. Once back on board there are games of Holo-sabacc in the Sublight Lounge, secret meetings you may be invited to as part of the story, and impromptu rendezvous with characters on the ship.

If all of this sounds exhausting, it kind of is. But in a way, that’s more exhilarating than anything else. If you need to decompress and get some fresh air and sunlight, you can pop out to the Climate Simulator, an outdoor garden featuring walls of succulents and other live plants with signs in Aurebesh, the written language of Star Wars, explaining their origin, and a centerpiece of zen stacking stones that has some additional interactive features where you may learn to harness the force if you happen to be there at the right time.

As for whether the slew of experiences are worth the price tag? It depends. Not everyone in your travel party has to be a mega Star Wars fan but the ability to suspend reality and fall headfirst into the story is crucial—and if you’re already adding up all the trips you can take for the cost of one two-night experience, this may not be the thing for you. Yet it’s undoubtable that for many lifelong fans, Galactic Starcruiser will fulfill years of Star Wars fantasies and create memories you can’t put a price on.

Disney Reveals Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser Hotel Prices, And It's Going To Cost You A Lot Of Credits

star wars cruise ship hotel price

It's been a busy week for Disney theme-park fans, first with the announcement of Disneyland's new Annual Pass...er, Magic Key program yesterday. And now, Walt Disney World is lifting the veil, ever so slightly, on the upcoming Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser experience, with a glimpse into how the two-day experience may work for guests. Oh, and we now have an idea of exactly how much money it's going to cost you when the experience goes live in the spring of 2022. Today, Walt Disney World provided   some helpful information to anyone out there who's been champing at the bit to indulge in a hotel experience so immersive that you're really not meant to leave for two days to enjoy the theme parks surrounding said hotel. Just like an actual cruise ship, the purpose of your stay on the Halcyon starcruiser is to spend two days...well, on the Halcyon starcruiser. During this experience, you can take part in droid racing competitions, enjoy meals with live performances, get trained in how to use a lightsaber, and even travel to Batuu (AKA spend a few hours in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge).

It's Going to Cost You a (Wampa) Arm and a Leg

"Ah yes," you're thinking, "but exactly how many vital organs will I need to donate to cover the cost of this experience?" To be fair, some of you reading may have enough cash on hand that a two-day sojourn on the Halcyon is but a drop in the bucket. (Elon Musk, I know you're reading this. Don't lie!) The announced prices range from $4,809 to $5,999, and that's if you're visiting on certain weekdays, which no doubt means that the prices are far more exorbitant if you're visiting on the weekends or during higher-traffic times of year. The good news is that your entry into Disney's Hollywood Studios theme park is part of the overall cost of the experience. Two things come to mind upon seeing these details, at least for this writer. The first is that, as much as I like the Star Wars films (at least the original trilogy, Force Awakens , and The Last Jedi ), I don't like them enough to be excited about a two-day immersive experience in a Star Wars world while the rest of the Disney theme parks are beckoning right outside the walls. The money's an issue – as it likely is for most people, who'll have to scrimp and save thousands for just two days in one section of one theme park – but even if it wasn't, there'd be something holding me back. The other comes down to money. Six thousand dollars for two nights in one part of one theme park just reminds me of the stealth-best scene in Jurassic Park , in which a group of adults first debate the ethical ramifications of cloning dinosaurs in the modern age, until one of them – "a blood-sucking lawyer" – salivates at the thought of charging people thousands of dollars for just one day at Jurassic Park. Disney CEO Bob Chapek and company sure seem like they never learned the lesson of that scene, since it's the blood-sucking lawyer who gets eaten first.

Disney’s Galactic Starcruiser Rooms: Guide to Star Wars Hotel

Star Wars Hotel Rooms

Disclosure: This Star Wars Hotel rooms page contains affiliate links. Read  full Disclosure Policy .

Wondering what it’s like to stay in one of the new Star Wars hotel rooms ? Read on to learn about each room type on the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…

Image of Star Wars Land at Disney World

We waited ages for it, and the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser finally arrived in March 2022.

A two-night all-inclusive adventure, staying at Disney’s Star Wars hotel is more than what we expected. It almost makes it worth the sticker shock when you see the starting prices.

Star Wars Hotel Rooms

There are 100 guest rooms on the “ship”…which type is right for your family?

Let’s describe each type of room.

Before we get into the rooms on the Galactic Starcruiser, here’s some starting info:

Think about a Galactic Starcruiser vacation package like a two-night cruise, including a park day excursion.

That’s essentially what you’re paying for here – much more than just booking Star Wars themed hotel rooms, although we won’t pretend that the prices aren’t still steep for two days.

  • Two nights stay in a cabin or suite
  • Ongoing, immersive, and interactive entertainment, where YOUR choices determine your experience
  • Food and beverages on the starcruiser (excluding alcoholic and specialty beverages) and a quick-service meal at Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo or other select locations at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
  • Admission to Disney’s Hollywood Studios for your planetary excursion to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
  • Valet parking
  • Exclusive Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser MagicBand

With that taken care of, let us embark on our journey through the rooms on the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser!

Table of Contents – Rooms Aboard the Galactic Starcruiser

  • Standard Cabin
  • Galaxy Class Suite
  • Grand Captain Suite

Galactic Starcruiser Basic Rooms: Standard Cabin

When you first walk into your cabin, you’ll feel the Star Wars hotel vibes right away.

These cabins are reminiscent of cabins on Disney Cruise Line ships , with a distinctive Galactic Starcruiser look for the rooms.

A combination of gray, silver, and white have that clean space style, with pops of orange for color. Copper elements also serve as an accent tone to set off the orange.

Cabin Entrance

To one side is a small closet and long lighted mirror, and on the other side a pocket door encloses the bathroom space.

In the bathroom, you have the sink and shower in one area and the toilet in another, again separated by a pocket door.

The mirror above the sink is lighted, with hand soap and lotion mounted on the wall and storage under the sink.

If you’re someone who needs a hair dryer, the thermal dryer is in a box under the sink.

The shower is long and narrow and is only a stand-up (no tub combo). There’s a fabulous rain showerhead, and a thin shower wand if you like to have an additional spray.

The frosted glass door of the shower slides shut which mimics the style of the pocket doors. A long mirror in the same space as the toilet completes the bathroom area.

Inner Space

Moving into the living and sleeping spaces, you have a closet with shelves and hanging areas, as well as your small safe.

On the bottom shelf is the Cooling Supply Unit (mini-fridge) which is great for bringing your own snacks or small cold items.

When you’re landing in Galaxy’s Edge , it’s always a good idea to bring cold water or other snacks from your Galactic Starcruiser rooms in case it’s a hot day in Batuu.

In the hanging part of the closet there are two Chandrilan Star Line robes for use during your stay in the Galactic Starcruiser rooms – just remember if you try to stow them away, you’ll be charged the galactic credits.

On the one wall is the phone and D3-09 , your on-board droid companion, as well as the inset TV.

On the opposite side from the TV is the queen-sized bed with cool built-in nightstands and lights that come out from the wall. Unlike some of the newer Disney resorts , these beds don’t have storage underneath, but there’s plenty of room in the corner to stack suitcases.

To the one side of the beds are the built-in bunks, which can fit an adult. However, we know it is more likely you’ll be using these for the kids.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by KAT by Melissa Pearson (@katbymelissapearson)

The bunks also have pull-out lights from the wall, which is nice for your little readers.

On the opposite wall are small rollout storage cubbies as well as your view of space out your window.

Each of the Galactic Starcruiser rooms has an everchanging panorama of what is happening in the galaxy, as well as a first look at the planet Batuu as you land at Black Spire Outpost.

Watch this short video tour of the Standard Cabin here:

Galactic Starcruiser Medium Rooms: Galaxy Class Suite

When you first enter the Galaxy Class Suite , you’ll immediately be blown away by all the extra space. The word suite is not used lightly here!

Disney definitely continues to bring the quality in the larger rooms of their Star Wars hotel.

We splurged for the Galaxy Class starsh… ah, suite. Fun welcoming gifts. #GalacticStarcruiser #Halcyon pic.twitter.com/0siA20qzjK — Drew’s Geekery (@drewgrgich) April 6, 2022

Entry & Living Room

Galaxy Class Suites open into a wet bar and seating space, complete with a sink and mini-fridge.

You also have more storage in this space, ideal for keeping your own dry snacks and cold items.

You won’t be able to heat up anything, as there isn’t a microwave, so just plan to bring packaged snacks rather than frozen meals. However, this space is nice for feeding your family in the morning with the bar stools and table.

In this entry space you also have a vanity with stool and lighted mirror, as well as the same closet space seen in the smaller Galactic Starcruiser rooms.

The closet has an extra set of bedding and a pillow, which you can use for the pull-down bed located in the living room.

Tour the exclusive Galaxy Class Suite hotel room aboard the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser. pic.twitter.com/Jqa4E4orR9 — Suite Xperience (@XperienceSuite) May 5, 2022

As you move into the living room, there’s a large couch that can certainly seat everyone in your party.

An inset TV rests in the wall, which defaults to your journey through your Star Wars hotel itinerary. Again, this will feel common to Disney Cruise guests, as the TVs on the ship do the same. Even in your Galactic Starcruiser rooms, you have a bit of Earthly familiarity.

The living room also is the location of one of the pull-down beds.

Much like we’ve seen at the newer DVC resorts such as Riviera Resort, the pull-down bed rests under the TV and is like a little nook in the wall. During the day, the bed folds up, making more room for everyone. There’s space within the end tables of the couch as well as the closet for the belongings of the person sleeping in the living room.

Completing the living room is a window looking out into the galaxy, your perfect view throughout your voyage.

Bedroom & Bathroom

One of the best parts of these Galactic Starcruiser rooms is the separate bedroom.

This bedroom is much like the sleeping space in the Standard Cabin, with a queen-sized bed as the focal point.

The main difference is that instead of bunks, there’s another pull-down bed under the inset TV. Another cool feature is a hidden tunnel that connects the bedroom to the living room via a small sliding door – you’ll really feel like you’re in the Resistance !

The bedroom also has its own closet space and D3-09 panel , which means you don’t have to leave your room to access the phone or your itinerary information.

A pocket door separates the bedroom from a small hallway which runs through the suite, and the bathroom is right across the hall.

The bathroom has much the same setup as in the Standard Cabin, except there is a double sink rather than a single. We really like this feature, as it allows multiple people to get ready at the same time.

Again, there is only a shower, so if you’re traveling with younger kids you may want to make use of the wand to help them rinse.

Check out a brief video tour of the Galaxy Suite here:

Galactic Starcruiser Premium Rooms: Grand Captain Suite

This is the largest of the Galactic Starcruiser rooms, and ideal if you’re travelling with a large party.

In many instances with Disney, it’s more cost effective to reserve multiple rooms rather than booking one of the larger suites.

However, in this case, it might prove less expensive if you’re filling the room.

That means putting eight people all in the suite – four in one bedroom, three in the second, and one person in the living room. It might seem like a tight squeeze, but it is just for two nights.

The Grand Captain Suite appears as if you took the other two Galactic Starcruiser rooms and merged them into one.

The entrance and living room are the same as the Galaxy Class, including the closet and sink spaces. Oh, and don’t forget the secret tunnel from the living room to the first bedroom!

In the first bedroom, you have a queen bed and a pulldown bed under the TV, much like in the Galaxy Class.

Across the hallway is the first of the two bathrooms, again exactly like the Galaxy Class. This is one of the aspects that preserves the Galactic Starcruiser vibes of these Star Wars hotel rooms – they are consistent. Much like fictional space cruisers, the compartments mimic one another.

Moving into the second bedroom, this one is like the Standard Cabin, with the queen bed in the center and the bunk beds inset into the walls.

The second bathroom connects to this bedroom, with the smaller setup of the Standard Cabin bathroom. When you’ve got eight people all in one cabin, you’ll be glad for this second bathroom!

Watch this video tour of the Grand Captain Suite: (Note: get a view of an ADA compliant bathroom with this walkthrough)

This Star Wars Hotel rooms guide walks you through each class of cabin aboard the Galactic Starcruiser:

  • There are three type of cabins, varying in price and number of guests
  • Do the math; it might make sense financially to reserve multiple smaller cabins than larger suites
  • Cabins are similar size to a Disney Cruise cabin and have full Star Wars theming

Get ready to take off on the adventure of a lifetime in your Galactic Starcruiser room.

Which cabin seems right for your family? Let us know in the comments.
