JACKASS star, stand-up comedian, and New York Times best-selling author, Steve-O , is bringing The Bucket List Tour to the Kalamazoo State Theatre January 13!
Every idea on Steve-O’s bucket list was so ill-advised, he never expected to go through with any of them. Until it was time to prepare for this tour. Not only are the stunts more ridiculous than what you already know Steve-O for, he did them all, and made a multimedia comedy show out of them. Not for kids, or the faint of heart.
About Steve-O: Steve-O (a.k.a. Stephen Glover) was willing to do whatever it took to become famous, even if it meant stapling his ball sack to his leg.
After failing miserably at the University of Miami, Steve-O was a homeless couch-surfer for three years before he attended Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Clown College, to help further his goal of becoming a famous stuntman. His relentless attention-whoring ultimately led to working with Johnny Knoxville on a stunt-based reality show. The rest is history. MTV aired the first season of JACKASS in 2000.
Since then, Steve-O has had continued success, as a New York Times best-selling author with the release of his memoir, ‘Professional Idiot’, and he has established himself as a force in the world of stand-up comedy. He’s thrilled to be releasing his new, profoundly multimedia, and wildly explicit comedy special, direct to his fans at steveo.com. It’s called “Gnarly”, for good reason.
Across his social media platforms, Steve-O has amassed well over 24 million followers and counting, providing an intimate window into his continued antics and colorful life with his fiancee, Lux. He’s also got a weekly podcast called Steve-O’s Wild Ride! with amazing guests which have included Demi Lovato, Shaquille O’Neal, Ronda Rousey, David Dobrik, Tony Hawk, and more.
Steve-O has never stopped being wild and crazy, but he’s definitely evolved. He’s been clean and sober for over twelve years now, and developed a genuine love for animals (including the four dogs, two cats, and three goats he and Lux have rescued). Steve-O and Lux have plans to start their own animal sanctuary.

The evolution of Steve-O, where every act is his last

Steve-O dropped out of college in 1993. He told everyone his plan was to become a famous stuntman with his home video camera. He remembers people feeling genuinely sorry for him. To be fair, he wasn’t even sure it would work or that he’d be successful, in the least, he just wanted to amass enough crazy footage so he’d have a legacy to outlive him when he, “Inevitably died young, having failed at life,” he said.
It wasn’t for lack of trying. Steve-O, born Stephen Glover, has spent his life treating every act as if it’s his last. His on-screen bits were shocking and his off-screen antics infamous, culminating in an intervention by Johnny Knoxville and his Jackass family in 2008 and stays in rehab.
So it’s as much a surprise to him as anyone that almost 30 years after making that wild proclamation, not only is he alive and “still getting away with it,” but he is actually thriving and moving up in the world.
At 47, Steve-O — the man who walked on a tightrope over an alligator pit with raw meat in his underwear, snorted lines of wasabi and fish-hooked his own cheek on camera —- is nearly 14 years sober with a successful stand-up comedy career, a podcast , a dog, a fiancé, a book of wisdom on the way, “A Hard Kick in the Nuts: What I Learned from a Lifetime of Terrible Decisions,” and another “ Jackass ” movie in theaters.
“I’m beside myself with gratitude,” he said in a Zoom call from his tour bus. It’s actually an RV, he wants to clarify, but it’s a “fun Class A RV” wrapped with “obnoxious” Steve-O art that’s causing a bit of a stir with passersby trying to take photos.
But he likes it. He is, he knows, a bit of an “attention whore.”
“I say that in a bit of a self-deprecating way, but it’s true,” he said. “At my core, I’m an exhibitionist and the idea of entertaining people, of communicating authentically is really what I’m all about.”
For the past decade, Steve-O has been grinding through comedy clubs, building his act in which he reveals all about his wild life. The pandemic provided a break from the grueling touring lifestyle, and he was able to focus on building his podcast and merchandising. When he started back up again, he’d crossed an important threshold for any comic: He’d graduated from clubs to theaters. His first sold-out theater gig was at the Paramount in Austin, Texas, which seats 1,200.
“I was on the verge of tears,” he said. “I was so emotional about it.”
But it was “Jackass,” of course, that made Steve-O a name. The raucous MTV show started in 2000 and birthed a franchise of spinoffs and movies in which the cast blended comedy with dangerous, sometimes outrageous, stunts. And in even in this mad bunch, Steve-O managed to stand out as one of the craziest.
He was certain that the third film, “Jackass 3D,” released in 2010 and filmed when he was newly sober, was their last. In fact, he’s been certain that every film has been their last —Knoxville has always made a point of saying so in interviews. So he wasn’t expecting “the captain,” as he calls Knoxville, to propose a fourth. It had been 10 years and they were all now in their late 40s and early 50s. He worried a bit that it might be “creepy” for an audience to see them getting hurt like they used to.
But Knoxville felt strongly that the older they got, the funnier it got.
“The whole formula is that we all get together and try to make each other laugh. Once we got together, the chemistry was evidently there. It was like we had never stopped filming,” he said. “We were as crazy as ever. What we learned is that we get knocked out more easily and our bones break a lot easier too.”
Knoxville has said that this is the last movie he’s going to risk his life for (a stunt with a bull left him with brain hemorrhage, a concussion, a broken wrist and a broken rib). But, Steve-O noted, this is actually the first time he hasn’t said that the franchise is done.
“He very much left the door open to there being another Jackass movie. Who knows, maybe that was the plan all along by enlisting these younger, fresher faces as new cast members,” he laughed. “For all I know, this is just an exercise in us recruiting our replacements.”
Back when the first season of Jackass finished, Steve-O and the guys were at the wrap party at a bar and decided they didn’t want it to end at last call. They made up a game called “I’m not leaving” and the idea was that no one was allowed to walk out on their own two feet. No punches were allowed, but they were going to do everything they could to resist — make themselves dead weight, hang on to furniture, each other. It became a tradition and a kind of symbol for their whole improbable run.
“Every act in my career has been my last,” Steve-O said. “If not officially, I think I’ve approached it as such.”
Soon he’ll announce another leg on his “Bucket List” tour, in which he’ll be on the bus traveling from Miami to Los Angeles, doing gigs along the way. And though he thought he’d mined every last thing for this show, he recently got an idea for another.
“It’ll be the Steve-O’s Gone Too Far Tour,” he said with a smile. “And I cannot imagine any possible way to follow that up. So that’s going to be my last.”

Steve-O: ‘It occurred to me I could probably fire a bullet through my cheeks’
The ‘jackass’ star and high priest of professional masochism is touring the uk with a show of ‘forbidden’ stunts. he speaks to louis chilton about addiction, bam margera and the time he behaved ‘despicably’ on the original ‘love island’, article bookmarked.

“Getting old sucks,” says Steve-O , his voice a barely audible rasp. “Middle age is a tough one for anybody – but when you’re Steve-O, it’s particularly tough.” The Jackass star begins assessing his body from the top down, listing everything wrong with it. “The worst thing going on is degenerative disc disease,” he explains. “The space between vertebrae in my neck is becoming smaller and smaller.” His vision has gone bad: “I don’t know if that’s from all the hot sauce and lemon juice I’ve squeezed into my eyes”. He has a “big hole” in his septum from years of cocaine use: “I’ve been able to thread it with a shoelace”. He also lives with Barrett’s oesophagus, a cellular disfiguration in the food pipe that can lead to cancer and requires regular endoscopies. And his collarbone is “all messed up”. He takes a breath. We haven’t even got as far as his torso.
The man born Stephen Gilchrist Glover – but known widely and mononymously as Steve-O – sits on a sofa across from me in the bar of a London hotel, jaded from jetlag, his bare feet up by his side. Anyone familiar with his work (three seasons of the scatological stunt series Jackass , four Jackass movies, and numerous other body-punishing ventures) will likely find his medley of medical ailments no surprise. Over the years he’s pierced a fish hook through his cheek, attached a leech to his eyeball and ensconced his genitals in a swarm of angry bees, making the 49-year-old one of our foremost professional masochists. Think of him as the Lionel Messi of getting splattered by faeces and snapped at by alligators.
He’s in town ahead of a UK tour of his latest live show, which will conclude with a two-night stint in London, the first of which will be filmed. The show, titled The Bucket List , intersperses live comedy segments with screenings of pre-recorded stunts. “I’ve made a livelihood out of being childish and immature,” he says, with an air of unbothered self-awareness. “I’m reaching a point where it doesn’t make sense to keep doing this stuff. So The Bucket List is a frantic effort to do the craziest stuff ever before it becomes creepy to watch.”
For most performers, the phrase “craziest stuff ever” would read like sweaty marketing spiel. Likewise, the way he describes the Bucket List tour’s “forbidden” stunts as being “too hot for Jackass ” – “not only life-threatening but flagrantly illegal”. But I dare say it’s true. In one video, he is put under general anesthesia while riding a bicycle. In another, a drug is injected into his spinal cavity using a four-inch needle, which renders him paralysed – while in a full sprint. Yet another sees him leap from an airplane, completely naked and strapped to another man’s back, while “furiously masturbating” to completion. “It’s safe to say I’m the only person that’s ever done that,” he says. “I love that I’ve done so many things that make me a pioneer.” He breaks into a long, gravelly laugh.
Of course, not every idea makes it to fruition. Steve-O previously described abandoning plans for a stunt involving a firearm after “losing [his] sense of humour for guns”. I ask him what exactly this means. “The gun culture in America is beyond upsetting. It’s gotten to a point that it’s mass shootings all the time,” he says. “I don’t really care to get involved in debates over the second amendment and all the gun stuff. I think that’s a losing proposition. But everybody’s had enough with all the mass shootings.”
- Wendell Pierce on politics, The Wire and Jack Ryan: ‘I have a consultant at the CIA who helps me prepare’
- Eric André: ‘Tell Chet Hanks to say that to my face’
- Natasha Lyonne: ‘I was my high school’s pot dealer, and then I got a Woody Allen movie’
As for the stunt itself? “It occurred to me, if I really opened up my mouth as wide as I could, I could probably fit a bullet in between my teeth, firing it through both my cheeks,” he recalls, with a chipper matter-of-factness that seems at odds with the frankly unhinged thought process he’s describing. Ultimately, the plan he arrived at is now to “go into gun shops and explain that I was thinking about shooting myself. That should disqualify me from being able to buy a gun,” he continues. “So I’m testing that theory. I won’t stop until I’m able to buy a gun anyway. And then what I want to do is melt that gun down and fit it entirely up my ass.”
The UK live dates represent the end of a long road for Steve-O, who has been touring versions of The Bucket List for years. It’s also a homecoming of sorts – he was born in Wimbledon, before moving to Brazil, Venezuela and the US, and then returning to live in the UK for two other periods during his childhood. The run hasn’t been without a few “bad experiences”, mostly involving hecklers. “There is a contingent in my audience that feels like being rowdy and crazy is called for,” he says, sincerity creeping into his tone. “It always really bothers me, if I’m honest. Performing live comedy is such a vulnerable art. When people are screaming out, it’s like vandalising the performance, and it drives me nuts.”
For a stretch of the tour last year, Steve-O was joined by his former Jackass co-star Bam Margera , who was, at the time, trying to get sober. Margera had been acrimoniously dropped from the recent reunion film Jackass Forever (2022) after violating a sobriety agreement. He left The Bucket List tour after falling off the wagon, sharing a vitriolic post about Jackass collaborators Johnny Knoxville and Jeff Tremaine on Instagram. Steve-O responded with his own social media comment, pleading with his friend to seek more help. “I left that comment and deleted it within two minutes… it was everywhere in the world,” Steve-O says, with a trace of annoyance. “It wasn’t the last communication I had with Bam, but it’s the last thing I’ve had to say publicly about it. I can’t make him want to get better. I’ve tried, and it didn’t work.”
It is a struggle that Steve-O knows all too well. He has been sober now for a decade and a half, having undergone treatment for drug addiction (predominantly nitrous oxide, ketamine, cocaine and alcohol) and mental health issues in the Noughties. His “rock bottom” and early recovery were documented in the 2009 MTV special Steve-O: Demise and Rise . “There’s something that people find inherently compelling about the misfortune of others,” he reflects. “Entertainment and recovery are almost mutually exclusive concepts. There’s nothing entertaining about recovery – but it’s super entertaining to watch somebody out of control on drugs. I think there was something super lurid about the documentary, but there was something inspirational to some people too.”
The need to help others in crisis is “built into” the ethos of recovery, he says. “The whole idea is to keep what you have by giving it away.” It’s an approach that requires compassion – and an openness to second chances. This, says Steve-O, is something that’s increasingly scarce in the world today. “I think there’s this mob mentality about persecuting people for the things they’ve done wrong,” he claims. “The idea that something you said a long time ago is something you should pay for forever. By that measure, I should not be allowed to walk the streets freely.”
I believed the world was gonna end in 2012. I don’t know if that was a conspiracy theory... I think that was just plain cuckoo
In 2006, Steve-O signed on to ITV’s celebrity dating show Love Island , long before it would be retooled and transformed into the reality TV juggernaut of recent years. “I remember being belligerently drunk, on drugs, and throwing a massive temper tantrum,” he says. “I think I quit the show.” (He did, after just two days.) “To me, what’s notable about my experience on Love Island is after how despicable my behaviour was, I went on to work on multiple subsequent television projects with the producer – she gave me another chance in recovery. So people can and do change.”
Drugs weren’t his only vice. In his 2022 memoir A Hard Kick in the Nuts , he recounts ten years of “addiction Whac-A-Mole: sex, sugar, fame, work, spending, meditation”. Treatment for sex addiction a decade ago led to a 431-day period of total sexual abstinence. He was also, at one point, an avid conspiracy theorist. “I believed the world was gonna end in 2012,” he says. “I don’t know if that was a conspiracy theory, I think that was just plain cuckoo.”
Since 2018, Steve-O has been happily engaged to 36-year-old stylist and production designer Lux Wright. She is discussed extensively in The Bucket List – he describes the entire show as a “love story”. “I couldn’t have carried out these absurd, forbidden stunts without that having implications on my relationship,” he remarks. As our interview begins to wrap up, Wright arrives at the hotel. She walks over to check on him and introduces herself. She seems immediately affable and laid-back – I suppose anyone seriously involved with Steve-O would probably have to be.
With a wedding very much on the horizon, I ask if he thinks guests will be expecting some Jackass -style monkeyshines at the ceremony. A turd in the wedding cake? Scorpions in the boutonnière? That sort of thing. “No,” he replies, almost sternly. “She’s just so wonderful, I don’t have any desire to bum her out”. Even Steve-O has to draw the line somewhere.
Steve-O’s ‘The Bucket List Tour’ is travelling around the UK and finishing with two special shows at London’s Hackney Empire on 13 and 14 July. Tickets are on sale now at steveo.com

Steve-O (a.k.a. Stephen Glover) was willing to do whatever it took to become famous, even if it meant stapling his ball sack to his leg. After failing miserably at the University of Miami and couch-surfing with friends, he decided that in order to further his goal of becoming a stuntman he would enroll in Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Clown College. But it was his relentless attention whoring that ultimately led to working with Johnny Knoxville on a new stunt-based reality show called Jackass.
In 2000, MTV aired the first season and the rest, as they say, is history. Since then, he's had continued success, as a New York Times best-selling author with the release of his memoir, 'Professional Idiot', as well as establishing himself in the world of stand-up comedy. With fourteen years of sobriety under his belt, Steve-O shows no signs of slowing down. He can currently be found selling out theatres across the U.S. and Canada on The Bucket List tour, a multimedia stand-up comedy show like no other. In 2022, he rejoined Knoxville and the rest of the Jackass crew for the film 'Jackass Forever', which opened #1 at the box office, and will be releasing his second book A Hard Kick In The Nuts: What I Learned From A Lifetime Of Terrible Decisions.
Steve-O regularly produces content for his YouTube channel which routinely racks up millions of views, and his 'Wild Ride with Steve-O' podcast has proven to be a fan favorite with guests like Post Malone, Demi Lovato, Shaq, Tom Delonge from Blink 182, and more.
He currently resides in Los Angeles, California with his fiancé Lux. With their shared love of animals, they have four dogs, two cats, and have plans to start their own animal sanctuary.

'Jackass' star Steve-O brings craziest stunts in The Bucket List Tour to Canada, teases 'uncomfortable' new memoir
- Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below
Steve-O may be approaching the end of his 40s but the Jackass star shows us the craziest, more stocking stunts of his career in The Bucket List Tour, coming to Canada in August and September .
“It's my way of kind of acknowledging that my time for doing idiotic stuff is likely limited,” he told Yahoo Canada . “I feel like I'm running out of time to do the Jackass stuff and kind of racing against the clock to get it all out, to do the craziest things I've ever done,... before it becomes creepy to watch me do it.”
If you happened to snag a ticket to Steve-O’s 2019 show in Toronto you saw a more preliminary version of The Bucket List. Having seen the 2019 version, we can certainly tell you that if you’re slightly questioning the concept of a Steve-O comedy show, push that aside because even that version was one of the most entertaining, legitimately hysterical shows you’ll see.
The Bucket List is a multimedia experience, meaning, Steve-O talks about each “bucket list” stunt and then you get to see video footage of exactly what happened.
“We have full grown men passing out in the audience, which is a phenomenon I still don't understand, but that's due to footage of me getting a vasectomy,” he revealed.
“Now there's footage of what's called an epidural, where a doctor in disguise puts a four-inch needle into my spine and injects a drug into my spinal cavity to paralyze me from the waist down, while I'm in a full sprint.”
One stunt was a 'serious problem' for Steve-O's fiancée Lux Wright
The backdrop of everything on this Bucket List for Steve-O is his relationship with fiancée Lux Wright.
“For me to have carried out all of these ridiculous things on my bucket list, it would have been impossible for there not to be implications on my relationship with my fiancée,” he said. “In some cases she's perfectly OK with it and even encourages it,...and other cases she's super not OK with it.”
The one bucket list item Lux had a “serious problem” with initially was, as Steve-O describes it, the “crown jewel” of the show dubbed “sky jacking.”
“That involves me being completely naked in an airplane with another man strapped to my back, and furiously servicing myself, such that on completion, I was simultaneously falling out of an airplane ejaculating everywhere,” Steve-O describes. “[Lux] has never been very happy about me getting naked, showing my private parts to the world, and this took [that] a considerable step further.”
“I'd be lying if I said it did not absolutely create a problem in our relationship and the one thing that really saved the day was that after I went ahead and went through it, when she heard me tell the story of it from a stage as I worked out the material in a comedy club in Los Angeles,… she said ‘that's hilarious and I'm actually really proud of you.’”
'Uncomfortable details' revealed in new memoir
But a tour is far from the only thing Steve-O has going on right now. He also has the popular podcast “ Steve-O's Wild Ride! ” and a new memoir “A Hard Kick in the Nuts: What I’ve Learned From a Lifetime of Terrible Decisions,” set to be released in September.
As we wait for the release of his newest memoir , Steve-O himself can’t believe he’s actually sharing so many “uncomfortable details.”
“Particularly the uncomfortable detail I go into regarding my descent into sexual addiction is really, I mean, it made me uncomfortable,” he revealed. “Even the business of the Jackass franchise,...I just really peeled back the covers in a pretty reckless way.”
“There's no shortage of shockingly juicy material in the book and I think if there’s a saving grace about having been so reckless it’s that there's just really been a great deal of growth. I've worked on myself a lot over the last decade. I'm sharing all of this personal and sensitive stuff in a way that I think really does reflect that I’ve done a lot of work on myself. I think that kind of makes it permissible, makes it OK to enjoy the book when you’re reading it, and maybe you’ll come away with a sense of understanding about it all."
'I could not imagine how we could be allowed on television'
Looking back at the massive success of Jackass in particular, Steve-O expected the concept to work, based on the popularity of the original skateboarding videos, but he did doubt that it would ever be able to have mainstream success.
“Quite simply, I could not imagine how we could be allowed on television and that concern was majorly reinforced early on when they asked me to send in all of my best video footage so that they could sift through it and license certain clips straight onto the show,” Steve-O revealed.
“When I did that, they told me that not one clip I sent was allowed on television and I became really nervous at that point thinking,...we're going to have a TV show that we're not allowed to do anything on, it's going to be some super lame, watered down, boring thing that sucks.”
As time went on, the Jackass team figured out what the rules were, pushing them to a limit where the show didn’t feel too “watered down,” but then kids ended up in the hospital, wanting to replicate, and film, the stunts they saw on Jackass .
“That's when [MTV] forced us to water it down and [Johnny] Knoxville abruptly quit, and that's what started the conversation about making a movie, which would be R rated and allow us to do what we wanted to do,” Steve-O said.
Of course, Johnny Knoxville, in particular, would go on to claim every Jackass movie would be the last, but here we are, six movies later, with the most recent Jackass Forever film released this year.
“I think the secret to the longevity of Jackass has been leaving you wanting more,” Steve-O said.
While Steve-O is now venturing out on his own, The Bucket List tour is an example of this perfect mixing pot of getting more of the star’s own comedic and entertaining personality, but not completely abandoning what we know, and love, about Jackass.
