Installing Safari on Windows

Installing Safari on a Windows operating system may seem like a daunting task, given that the browser is officially designed for Apple's macOS and iOS platforms. However, with the right tools and a systematic approach, it is indeed possible to bring the Safari browsing experience to your Windows environment.

Step 1: Downloading Safari for Windows

The first step in installing Safari on Windows is to obtain the necessary installation files. While Apple no longer actively develops Safari for Windows, older versions of the browser can still be found on reliable software archives and repositories. It's important to exercise caution and ensure that the source from which you download Safari is reputable and free from malware.

Step 2: Verifying System Requirements

Before proceeding with the installation, it's crucial to verify that your Windows system meets the minimum requirements for running Safari. This includes checking the compatibility of the Windows version, available system resources, and any additional software dependencies that may be required for Safari to function properly.

Step 3: Running the Installation Wizard

Once the Safari installation file has been downloaded, run the installation wizard and follow the on-screen instructions. During the installation process, you may be prompted to specify the installation directory, agree to the terms of use, and select any optional components or features that you wish to include.

Step 4: Completing the Installation

After the installation wizard has successfully completed its tasks, Safari should be available for use on your Windows system. It's advisable to create a desktop shortcut or pin Safari to the taskbar for convenient access.

Step 5: Updating Safari (Optional)

If you have installed an older version of Safari on Windows, it's recommended to check for any available updates to ensure that you are running the latest version of the browser. This can help address security vulnerabilities, improve performance, and provide access to the latest features and web standards.

By following these steps, you can successfully install Safari on your Windows machine and prepare to explore the unique browsing experience that Safari offers. With Safari now readily available on your Windows system, the next logical step is to delve into the process of testing the browser and ensuring that your web content performs optimally across different platforms and browsers.

This could include websites, web applications, or specific web elements such as forms, media players, or interactive features. By accessing your web content in Safari, you can observe how it renders and behaves within the browser's environment.

Step 2: Assessing Rendering and Functionality

Carefully examine the appearance and functionality of your web content in Safari on Windows. Pay close attention to layout, typography, color rendering, and the positioning of elements. Interact with the web content to ensure that all interactive features, such as buttons, links, and forms, respond as expected. By thoroughly assessing the rendering and functionality, you can identify any discrepancies or issues specific to Safari on Windows.

Step 3: Cross-Browser Compatibility Testing

Compare the performance of your web content in Safari on Windows with its behavior in other popular browsers, such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Edge. This comparative analysis allows you to pinpoint any inconsistencies or deviations in rendering and functionality across different browsers. By conducting cross-browser compatibility testing, you can address any browser-specific issues and optimize the user experience for a diverse audience.

Step 4: Responsive Design and Performance

Evaluate how your web content responds to different screen sizes and resolutions within Safari on Windows. Test the responsiveness of your web design and ensure that it adapts gracefully to various devices, including desktops, laptops, tablets, and smartphones. Additionally, assess the performance of your web content in Safari, paying attention to loading times, smoothness of animations, and overall responsiveness.

Step 5: Debugging and Issue Resolution

If you encounter any rendering discrepancies, functionality issues, or performance concerns specific to Safari on Windows, engage in thorough debugging and issue resolution. Utilize developer tools and debugging utilities to identify and address any underlying problems. By resolving these issues, you can enhance the compatibility and performance of your web content in Safari, contributing to a more polished and user-friendly experience.

By meticulously testing Safari on Windows and addressing any compatibility or performance challenges, you can elevate the quality of your web content and ensure that it delivers a consistent and engaging experience for all users, regardless of their choice of browser or platform.

Troubleshooting Safari on Windows

When testing Safari on a Windows system, it's essential to be prepared for potential challenges that may arise during the process. Troubleshooting Safari on Windows involves identifying and addressing any issues that affect the browser's performance, rendering, or compatibility with web content. By effectively troubleshooting Safari, you can overcome obstacles and ensure a smooth and reliable browsing experience for both yourself and your website visitors.

Common Issues and Solutions

1. compatibility problems.

One common issue when using Safari on Windows is compatibility problems with certain websites or web applications. This can manifest as layout distortions, missing elements, or non-functional features. To address compatibility issues, consider optimizing your web content using web standards-compliant code and testing for cross-browser compatibility. Additionally, leveraging polyfills and fallbacks for unsupported features can enhance compatibility with Safari on Windows.

2. Performance Degradation

Safari's performance on Windows may sometimes exhibit sluggishness or instability, impacting the overall browsing experience. To mitigate performance degradation, ensure that your Windows system meets the recommended hardware specifications for running Safari. Clearing browser cache , disabling unnecessary extensions, and updating Safari to the latest version can also contribute to improved performance.

3. Rendering Anomalies

Rendering anomalies, such as incorrect font rendering, image display issues, or unexpected layout behavior, can detract from the visual appeal and functionality of web content in Safari on Windows. Address rendering anomalies by validating your web content's markup and stylesheets, ensuring compliance with web standards, and utilizing vendor prefixes for CSS properties to enhance cross-browser rendering consistency.

4. Browser Extensions Interference

Certain browser extensions installed on Safari for Windows may interfere with the browser's functionality, leading to unexpected behavior or compatibility issues. To troubleshoot this, consider disabling or removing browser extensions one by one to identify any that may be causing conflicts. Additionally, ensuring that extensions are updated to their latest versions can help mitigate compatibility issues.

5. Security and Privacy Concerns

Safari's security and privacy features are integral to its browsing experience. However, on Windows, certain security or privacy settings may conflict with specific websites or web applications, leading to access or functionality issues. Review and adjust Safari's security and privacy settings to strike a balance between protection and compatibility, ensuring a secure yet seamless browsing experience.

By proactively addressing these common issues and implementing targeted solutions, you can effectively troubleshoot Safari on Windows, optimizing its performance and compatibility with your web content. Through meticulous troubleshooting, you can elevate the browsing experience for yourself and your website visitors, fostering a seamless and consistent interaction with your web content in Safari on Windows.

Safari is one of the finest web browsers available today and has a large user base. With a lot of features mimicking the iPhone, Apple's Safari browser has redefined the way users have been accessing the Internet. The browser has more than 250 features and a number of characteristic advantages that distinguish it from the other major contemporary browsers like Firefox, Chrome, and Internet Explorer.

Safari has established itself in the market over time and has garnered a loyal user base.

test safari on windows

As of October 2018, Safari is the second most popular browser among the users! Well, that makes it quite important for all the business owners and stakeholders to make sure that their business website (or any website, for that matter) performs as expected in the Safari browser.

Although you can install different browsers and perform testing accordingly, you cannot install something that is not compatible with your platform. Here is where the need to use some special tools and techniques sets in. Automatic tools that help us with the testing process are almost mandatory today and a tester’s best friends! Here are the top ways in which you can perform Safari browser testing on Windows.

Installing Safari on a Windows Machine

Well, like everyone else, the first method that you could think of would be to easily install Safari on your Windows machine and get started with the testing process. Smooth enough? But, there is an issue with this method. As Apple launched Safari 6.0 for OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion, it seems to have suspended all the efforts to continue developing Safari for Windows. Safari 5 is still available for Windows, but it does not make much sense to test your product on a dated version! Does it?

The Windows users may still download and install the browser Safari in its version 5.1.7. The dated version works perfectly fine on Windows 10, Windows 8, or Windows 7. However, being a dated and older web browser version, it does not support any of the new Safari web features. Apart from that, the browser has a number of potential security flaws.

Being a tester, you would always be looking for the latest available software. Hence, this older version is not of much use for you, until you want to specifically test your product on it for theoretical purposes.

Using the Oracle VM Virtualbox

VirtualBox is a free-to-use tool developed by Oracle. The tool lets you run and experiment with a variety of tools and operating systems, which natively cannot be run on your device. The Virtualbox sets up a virtual environment on your device and lets you overcome a lot of incompatibility software issues. In case you want to test your product on Safari browser but do not own a Mac device, you can download the Virtualbox by Oracle and get started with testing on the latest version.

You can easily install Oracle VM Virtualbox on your device and run Safari on it. Download the VirtualBox software along with its extension pack and install the software file followed by running the VirtualBox manager. You need to immediately close it after running it. This will let your system log some necessary information.

VirtualBox is undoubtedly one of the most preferred free tools for virtualization on Windows. However, another point to keep in mind is that the Oracle VM VirtualBox does not still have the official for OS X and you need to download the main program along with the Extension Pack, which will provide you with the much-needed support for USB devices. You may need the Hackboot 1, Hackboot 2 ISO files along with the MultiBeast 4 to get some additional features like audio working fine post installation.

Using Cross-Browser Testing Tools

To make your life easier, a lot of online cross-browser testing tools are available.

With the help of cross-browser testing tools, you can get an on-premise infrastructure of your choice. These tools help you to test on desktop, mobiles, and tablets on various browsers. You can run any browser irrespective of the machine you are using directly in your web browser. All you need to do is just login and you can get a list of machines and browsers out of which you can choose your requirements and you’ll get the desired configuration in your browser itself.

You can even get a mobile(iOS or Android) in your desktop browser. These amazing platforms are a real lifesaver. You can choose from tools like LambdaTest to perform real-time testing of your webpage or application to make sure that it works well irrespective of the platform being used by the user. If you cannot access a particular browser, like Mac users cannot access IE, or Windows users cannot access the latest versions of Safari (in this case), even then tools like LambdaTest come handy.

You can easily make sure that your web application or website is cross-browser compatible with all the versions of Safari browsers even from your Windows machine or test on Internet Explorer from your Mac Machine.

The best part about these tools is you don’t need to install anything. You can access a machine directly from your browser.

This all-in-one testing tool would even allow you to capture automated screenshots and test your locally hosted web pages.

Thus, these were some of the quick methods to test your website on Safari using a Windows machine.

Cross-browser testing is one of the most crucial aspects of development and testing. With a constantly increasing number of browsers, it becomes difficult for the developers to keep a track of all the results and comparisons. The problem becomes even more complex if your local machine does not support a given browser. So with some tips and tricks, you can easily overcome this hurdle and make a cross-browser compatible website.

Happy developing! And...happy testing!

Easily test Safari browser on Windows with Comparium

Cross-browser compatibility is the correct display of the site, that is, readable and unbreakable text that is suitable for most browsers and their versions created for different operating systems.

In order to perform testing, QA testers use specialized tools to reduce the time spent on testing, for example if they need to test Safari on Windows or Windows on Mac, they need to use only one app or online service with no need to maintain farm of devices or use virtual machines.

Try testing for free right now.

Who needs to test safari browser on windows, why is it complicated to perform safari browser testing on windows, is it possible to install safari on windows, using virtual machines to perform safari testing on windows, test safari on windows with the help of cross browser testing tools, how to test safari on windows with comparium, frequently asked questions.

How to test Safari on Windows

Quite often, site owners do not even suspect that their Internet pages can be ideally displayed in one browser and completely incorrect in another, as well as on what devices, operating systems, browsers and their versions their resource is being viewed. It all falls on the shoulders of the QA testers who run different cross browser tests to cover all stages of development. That is why they use different services that allow them not only to test Safari on Windows but also across multiple browsers and OSes no matter the device you use.

Studies have shown that each web browser has a specific target audience. If you do not adapt the layout of your site for different browsers, then there is a risk of losing some of the visitors, each of whom could become a client. The thing is that the site's ability to open in all browsers is very important.

Imagine that your site does not open, for example, in the Safari browser or any other browser. Visitors from these browsers will not be able to view your site. Wondering what does it mean? Well, it means they will never come to you again, this will reduce site traffic, and will also reduce the number of subscribers. Therefore, site owners need to pay attention to cross-browser compatibility. As we all know, if visitors/buyers leave, the less profit you gain.that is why Safari testing on Windows is important as well as Google Chrome on Mac, Opera on Linux, etc.

If you ask, what can be so difficult in performing Safari browser testing on Windows? Well, it seems to be nothing at first glance. All we need is to download Safari to our computer running Windows operating system and start testing your site. Everything is pretty easy and simple, because we can do the same with any other browser on any other operating system, and this is logical. Only here lies the whole problem, which makes Safari testing on Windows complicated.

How to test what is incompatible with your platform and what cannot be downloaded to your computer? The point is that Apple Safari for Windows could not become the main browser on Microsoft systems, so it has not been updated for a long time and is not officially supported by developers.

The latest version for Windows is Safari 5.1.7, released on May 9, 2012. With the release of the 6 version for macOS and iOS, the browser for Windows ceased to exist. Any mention that such a version ever existed has disappeared from Apple's official website. So is it still possible to install Safari browser on Windows? As well as how to test Safari on Windows? Let’s try to figure it out.

install Safari on Windows

Despite the fact that the Safari version for Windows is not already supported by the developers it does not prevent users from installing older versions for Windows 7 and other systems in the Microsoft family as they perfectly work on them. So does it make sense to perform Safari browser testing on Windows if the version of the browser is outdated?

Windows users may download and install Safari for Windows 10, however, they should keep in mind that they will have to use an assembly dated 2012 with all the ensuing consequences: unstable work, lack of modern technologies and the inability to update the program, even more - potential security flaws.

As a QA tester, you often need to test new and modern versions of the browser, with rare exceptions when you need to “delve into the jungle”. Therefore, how to test Safari on Windows safely and most importantly using new versions of the browser?

Different ways of Safari browser testing on Windows

When implementing a virtual infrastructure for web resource development and testing, it is necessary, first of all, to choose the most suitable, reliable and efficient virtualization platform that meets all the requirements for the development process in the organization. While using virtual machines, you will avoid the problem of incompatibility and will allow you to perform Safari testing on Windows without any particular difficulties, both on new versions and on earlier ones.

However, the main disadvantages are the spontaneous deployment of virtual machines generates conflicts in the network infrastructure, lack of control over the use of licenses for operating systems and application software, the impossibility of integration into the existing IT environment of the organization as well as the high cost of solutions.

If you want to test Safari on Windows online or any other browser on any operating system then it is highly recommended to use cross-browsing testing tools. Fortunately, there are many online services for checking any website for cross-browser compatibility. There are free ones that have limitations, there are paid ones with wide functionality and high speed of work.

As we know, if the site is not displayed correctly, does not work correctly in one or several popular browsers, then it is inconvenient to use. Visitors will leave without looking at a single page. Thus, the bounce rate will increase, and, as you know, this behavioral factor in the ranking of sites is of significant importance.

Comparium is an online service that allows users to perform cross-browser testing of their website in order to obtain perfectly working sites on different platforms. It supports many browsers, their versions, operating systems and screen resolutions. With the help of Comparium you can easily check the layout of the site in Safari while using Windows operating system or Linux. The app is very easy-to-use and features all the necessary functionality to perform Safari browser testing on Windows.

You can take screenshots across multiple versions of Safari browser, and compare them using 3 manual and one automatic mode of screenshot comparison. For even better user experience you can combine them according to your choice and be sure that no visual bug will not be out of your sight. In addition, to the mentioned above modes, you can upload your own design and compare taken screenshots with it.

take screenshots across multiple versions of Safari browser

It is also worth mentioning that the service offers real time testing that helps in checking the responsiveness and functionality of the site. Unfortunately, to this date this current version doesn’t allow users to run virtual Safari browser testing, however, developers claimed to add this feature in the nearest future (according to the road map it is not the only thing that is coming within the upcoming updates) so you could deepen your testing skills.

Test Safari on Windows with ease while using Comparium, as the main goal of the service is to make complicated testing easier and we should admit that it does the job.
