The Tour de France pedals onto TV every July—showcasing the world’s greatest road cyclists. As in recent seasons, NBC Sports will broadcast this year’s event across NBC , USA Network, and Peacock .

Peacock is our favorite service for watching the race because it carries every stage live and on demand. It’s also the streaming home of the Tour de France Femmes and Vuelta a España.

What channel shows the Tour de France?

You can watch the Tour de France on NBC , USA Network, and Peacock . You’ll get the most live coverage from Peacock, which streams every stage and the daily Tour de France Pre-Race Show . USA Network shows a mix of live and encore coverage, while NBC carries select portions of the race—primarily an encore of the final stage in Paris.

Pro tip: To heighten your Tour de France viewing experience, download the official Tour de France mobile app on your Android or iOS device. The app comes with course maps, real-time stats, and live commentary.

2023 Tour de France schedule

This year’s Tour de France begins on July 1 in Spain before crossing into France on the third day. As usual, the 21-day route features a solid mix of flat to mountainous terrain. Two rest days break up the action before racers make their way to the Avenue des Champs-Élysées in Paris on July 23.

Data effective as of post date. Race times include Peacock’s live Tour de France Pre-Race Show coverage.

2023 Tour de France Femmes schedule

Just as the men’s tour wraps up in Paris, the Tour de France Femmes takes off from Clermont-Ferrand. This is the second edition of the women’s race and features an eight-day route ending with an individual time trial in Pau.

Data effective as of post date.

Best TV plans for watching the Tour de France

A Peacock subscription is the best way to watch the Tour de France. Starting at $4.99 a month, the streaming service provides live and on-demand access to every stage of the men’s and women’s races. You’ll also get daily pre- and post-race studio coverage during the men’s competition, plus race highlights and rider interviews.

If you’re only interested in the Tour de France, you can cancel your subscription after the final stage. Otherwise, Peacock’s cycling coverage doesn’t stop there. The service also hosts the Liège–Bastogne–Liège, Critérium du Dauphiné, Vuelta a España, and Paris Tours. It’s also home to the Summer Olympics , which features road race and track cycling events every four years.

How to watch the Tour de France for free

*CableTV.com utilizes paid Amazon links. Amazon.com Price; $47.99 (as of 5/3/23 11:30 a.m. CT). Read full disclaimer .

The most convenient way to watch the Tour de France for free is by using an over-the-air (OTA) antenna to pick up your local NBC station. Unfortunately, NBC doesn’t show a lot of race coverage—mostly encore presentations of early and late stages. But it never hurts having an antenna in your TV setup.

If you don’t have an antenna, most cost between $20.00 and $60.00. We recommend the Mohu Leaf 50 for its 60-mile range and slim design. But you’ll want to verify the distance of your nearest NBC station by entering your zip code into the Federal Communications Commission’s Reception Map Tool . That’ll help determine if you need a more robust antenna, which we feature on our Best OTA Antennas page.

Pro tip: To make up for every stage NBC doesn’t air, you can stream free race recaps on NBC Sports’ YouTube channel .

The 110th Tour de France will stream on Peacock and air on NBC and USA Network throughout July 2023. Peacock offers the best way to watch Le Tour because it streams every stage from beginning to end. It also carries the entire women’s race, which begins the same day as the men’s competition ends.

If you’re a cycling fan without access to fast and reliable internet, most cable and satellite TV services have NBC and USA Network. Those channels don’t show as much Tour de France coverage as Peacock, but you’ll still see the most vital moments of the race.

How to watch the Tour de France FAQ

Can you watch the tour de france on nbc.

Commentators

For the first time, NBC Sports Group’s coverage will feature reporting from the road via ‘Inside-the-Race’ correspondent Steve Porino, who will report and offer updates on race situations from an unprecedented point of view aboard a motorcycle on the race course. ‘Inside-the-Race’ is an innovation from NBC Sports Group to bring fans closer to the action. This unique perspective debuted with NBC’s ‘Inside-the-Glass’ reporter on its NHL telecasts in 2006 and was followed by its ‘Between-the-Benches’ soccer coverage.

Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen, the voices of cycling, will call the race action for the live shows with reporters Steve Schlanger and Carolyn Manno. Todd Harris will host nightly studio coverage with analysts Bob Roll and Scott Moninger.

Production

NBC Sports Network will utilize several production features, including a pointer feature which will easily identify and focus on one rider in the peloton; exclusive, in-depth profiles and features on teams and riders; and an onscreen predicted time for the peloton riders who are trying to catch the leading riders.

Digital Coverage

NBC Sports Group will surround its on-air coverage with the  NBC Sports Tour de France Live , cycling content online at NBCSports.com , and through the  NBC Sports Tour de France Live  mobile app. The network will offer users two premium-subscription products which will give fans a multi-platform, all-encompassing viewing experience to the Tour.

NBC Sports Tour de France Live  offers live streaming video of every stage online in full HD, with the ability to pause, rewind and slow-mo the video. While watching live coverage, viewers will also have access to a live GPS tracking map to follow the riders’ progress or to see an enhanced interactive map for each stage. Also, subscribers can personalize their Tour experience by choosing their favorite riders and teams to track throughout the Tour. To experience the Tour de France on-the-go, fans can also separately purchase the  NBC Sports Tour de France Live  mobile app, which is available for iPhone and iPad, as well as Android devices.

How to Watch the 2023 Tour de France—and Who Might Win

From cable TV to live streaming, here are your options for watching the 2023 Tour, plus details about riders to watch.

109th tour de france 2022 stage 21

The 2023 Tour de France begins on Saturday, July 1, 2023 in the Spanish Basque region, with a hilly 182K road race through the steep hills around Bilbao. So it’s time to start planning how you’re going to watch it.

Whether that means streaming from your phone, starting your morning with the previous day’s highlights, or inviting your friends over for a viewing party, the options for watching the Tour de France are plentiful.

For the Fanatics

You could cancel your subscription at the end of the Tour, but consider this: by subscribing to Peacock Premium or Peacock Premium Plus you’ll also have access to the full men’s and women’s Tours as well as other races covered by NBC and its partners, including the 2023 Vuelta a España and next year’s editions of Paris-Nice and Paris-Roubaix .

109th tour de france 2022 stage 4

The Peacock app is available on Roku, Apple devices, Android and AndroidTV devices, Google platforms, Chromecast, Xbox devices, Playstation 4 and 4 Pro, VIZIO SmartCast TVs, and LG Smart TVs. You can also watch online via the Peacock website.

If you have a good cable package and prefer conventional viewing on your television, you’re in luck: NBC will offer the race to cable subscribers via the USA Network and CNBC. Live coverage often starts around 7 a.m. ET, so 9-to-5ers will likely need to record each stage and watch later. (Check the full schedule for details.)

No Cable? No Problem.

If you don’t have cable and want more than what’s offered on the NBC app, a subscription to FuboTV costs $70 per month. Add the $12 per month cycling package you’ll have full access to NBC’s coverage of the race. Fubo’s also great for those who love cycling year round, as FuboTV has a full-time cycling channel covering the major Tours, the Classics, some world championship events, and even BMX racing. (It’s also available in Canada.) If you’ve been looking for a streaming service that offers most if not all of the channels you enjoy watching, it’s a solid option.

Riders to Watch

Denmark’s Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma), the defending champion , should enter this year’s race as the top favorite. He’s spent much of the season at training camps with his teammates, but when he has raced, he’s done well, winning two of three stage races he entered and finishing third in the one that he didn’t. His squad is the strongest in the Tour and the course suits him. Assuming he makes it to the starting line in Bilbao without any unexpected mishaps (like crashes or illnesses), he’s the #1 contender.

Slovenia’s Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) who won back-to-back Tours in 2020 and 2021 and absolutely CRUSHED the first part of the season (he won the Ruta del Sol, Paris-Nice, the Tour of Flanders , the Amstel Gold Race , and Flèche Wallonne ) would have been the top favorite had he not crashed and broken his wrist at Liège-Bastogne-Liège. The injury forced him off the bike for a while, interrupting his training for the Tour. But that might be a good thing: first because it means he’ll be peaking a bit later in the race; and second because he’ll be a bit more of a dark horse, which could play right into his hands. He has the added advantage of having beaten Vingegaard the only time they raced against one another so far this season: at Paris-Nice in March.

The INEOS Grenadiers will again come to the Tour led by Colombia’s Daniel Martinez, who’s so far failed to live up to the expectations the team had for him when they signed him away from EF Education a few years ago. He’ll be joined by his compatriot, Egan Bernal , the winner of the 2019 Tour de France (and 2021 Giro d’Italia ) who’s slowly been working his way back from a crash that nearly took his life in February 2022.

Other contenders include Spain’s Enric Mas (Movistar), a three-time runner-up in the Tour of Spain who has fifth- and sixth-place Tour de France finishes on his resume; France’s David Gaudu (Groupama-FDJ), who narrowly missed a spot on the final podium last year; and Ecuador’s Richard Carapaz (EF Education-EasyPost), who has podium finishes in all three grand tours including a win at the 2019 Giro d’Italia .

How to Watch the Tour de France

Easton Smith

It’s July, which means the Tour de France (or TDF) is kicking into gear. Watching the event live or on-demand is about as easy as coasting downhill on a Cannondale.

The Tour will be broadcast by NBC Sports, which means you can catch it on your local NBC affiliate, the USA Network, or the Peacock streaming service.

We think that Peacock offers the best viewing experience because you can watch live or on-demand on many different devices. The service costs just $5.99 a month (or $11.99 ad-free), and you can sign up and watch right now.

Here’s everything cycling fans need to know about watching the Tour de France and the Tour de France Femmes (which is also broadcast by NBC).

Quick guide to this article:

  • Tour de France channels
  • TDF on Peacock
  • TDF on cable and streaming
  • TDF with an HD antenna
  • Tour de France FAQ

What channel has the Tour de France?

Because NBC is the official broadcaster of the Tour de France and the Tour de France Femmes in the United States, the events will be available on NBCUniversal Media channels.

  • NBC: Local NBC affiliates will be streaming select stages of the race. Right now, it seems like the network will only be airing the first and the last stages of the race.
  • USA Network: The USA Network will be airing many stages of the race live, and others it will air late-night reruns.
  • Peacock: You can watch every stage of the race live on Peacock (with a Premium Monthly or Premium Plus plan). You can also stream reruns of stages that you don’t watch live. Peacock will also stream all of the Tour de France Femmes stages live.

All of the coverage will have commentary from NBC Sports anchors Phil Liggett (also known as the "voice of cycling") and Bob Roll.

What is the Tour de France route and schedule?

The best way to look at the Tour de France schedule is in map form! This is the official route with the dates of each stage indicated along the way.

A map of 2023 Tour de France route

Photo courtesy of A.S.O. and the Tour de France

You can see the full schedule for the Tour de France on the event’s website . The Tour de France Femmes schedule can also be found online here .

Our top recommendation: Watch the Tour de France on Peacock

The Peacock streaming app offers by far the easiest and most extensive Tour de France viewing experience. You can catch every stage of the race live, or watch them on-demand after they air.

Subscribers can watch Peacock on their phones, computers, tablets, smart TVs, and other devices. You can also link your subscription with services like Roku .

Peacock plans and prices

Peacock is a very affordable streaming service.

But to get the Tour de France you’ll need to get a Peacock Premium Monthly or Premium Plus plan.

The biggest benefit of going for the Premium Plus plan is that you can watch everything on the site ad-free, including the Tour de France.

But Peacock has a lot more than just cycling content. It’s the main streaming home for classic shows like Parks and Recreation and The Office . It’s where you can watch modern hits like Yellowstone and Poker Face . It’s also the exclusive streaming home for all Universal Movie releases , including big hits like the Jurassic Park and Harry Potter franchises.

Others ways to watch the Tour de France

You don’t have to subscribe to the Peacock app to watch the Tour de France. You can also get coverage of the cycling event's 21 stages by subscribing to a cable or live TV streaming service that has USA and NBC.

Other services with NBC Sports Tour de France coverage

Most live TV streaming services will get you access to USA Network and a local NBC affiliate. But we think these are the best options out there right now.

Each one of these services has its pros and cons, and all of them have a lot more content to offer than just the Tour de France.

Watch the Tour de France for free

There is one way to watch certain parts of the Tour de France for free. All you need is an indoor HD antenna and a TV.

With an antenna you should be able to pick up your local NBC affiliate. The channel will air at least the first and last stage of the Tour de France live. You won’t have to pay for a subscription or even sign up for anything (a rare thing in our modern world).

How to install an antenna

TV antennas are cheap and relatively easy to install. You can find a good one for under $30 online . Then just follow the instructions to attach the antenna to your TV and mount it near a window.

With a TV antenna you’ll get more than just NBC. You can watch local nightly news, sit-coms like The Simpsons (on Fox) and Abbot Elementary (ABC), and other sporting events, like the Super Bowl.

Recap: What’s the best way to watch the Tour de France?

The Tour de France is being broadcast by three different channels: NBC, USA Network, and Peacock. All three channels will have NBC Sports commentary.

By far the best and easiest way to watch is with the Peacock streaming app , which costs just $6–$12 a month (depending on which plan you go for). It will show every stage of the race live and let you watch on-demand after the race airs.

Hopefully we answered most of your questions in the sections above, but here’s a quick FAQ section to wrap up any loose ends.

Yes. You can watch the Tour de France on NBC or USA Network with a Youtube TV subscription .

No. You cannot watch the Tour de France or the Tour de France Femmes on ESPN or ESPN+ in the United States.

You can watch the Tour de France for $5.99 a month with a Peacock subscription. You can also watch on the USA Network or NBC with a cable or live TV subscription. If you have a TV antenna you can also catch certain stages of the race for free on your local NBC affiliate.

6 riders from American contingent could help decide Tour de France

By DAVE SKRETTA AP Sports Writer

The goal for Neilson Powless at the Tour de France starting Saturday is simple: win a stage.

He’s certainly capable. So are the other five Americans in the field, and collectively they represent perhaps the strongest contingent of U.S. riders in cycling’s most famous race since the drug-fueled days of Lance Armstrong and Levi Leipheimer.

There is Sepp Kuss, the climbing extraordinaire from the Jumbo-Visma squad, who ended a 10-year drought for Americans with a stage win last year and who will try to usher Jonas Vingegaard to back-to-back yellow jerseys; Matteo Jorgenson, who featured in several breakaways a year ago and nearly won a stage himself; new U.S. road race champ Quinn Simmons; Kevin Vermaerke, whose own debut last year was waylaid by a broken collarbone; and Lawson Craddock, back for the first time since 2018.

Then there is Powless, the 26-year-old from Florida and the first rider of Native American ancestry to race in the Tour, and who already has won two lower level races this year while performing well in the spring classics.

“I think the prep that I have done has brought me to the right level of fitness at exactly the right time,” said Powless, who will also be charged with protecting EF Education–EasyPost’s overall contenders, Richard Carapaz and Rigoberto Urán.

“If I could win a stage, that would be incredible. That would be my Tour made,” Powless said. “But if we have Richie or Rigo up in GC and we can get someone on the podium, that would be incredible as well. I’m going to have to be pretty fluid with it, with what my goals are going to be, because depending on what position we are going to be in with the team, it is going to change. If we have someone going for GC, I could have a really satisfying Tour helping to get them on the podium.”

The six American riders in the Tour is one fewer than a year ago but otherwise the most since 2014, and represents a resurgence in U.S. road racing. Magnus Sheffield, the 21-year-old phenom for Ineos Grenadiers, nearly made its Tour lineup this year, and Joe Dombrowski and Brandon McNulty missed out on the start line largely because they already raced in the Giro d’Italia.

Incidentally, the 25-year-old McNulty won a stage in the Italian grand tour to confirm his status as an up-and-coming star.

While each of the six Americans could claim a stage win — the Tour begins Saturday with a mountainous stage leaving Bilboa, Spain — the strength of the contingent might not be reflected by their own ambitions as much as their expectations.

Or rather, the expectations placed on them.

Kuss is considered the top lieutenant for Vingegaard, and will be responsible for helping the reigning Tour winner fend off the attacks of Tadej Pogačar and other contenders. On any other team, Kuss would be a threat to win the toughest of stages himself, but he could be left to sacrifice himself for the team’s greater good.

Vermaerke is in a similar situation for Team DSM, where he will try to help Romain Bardet in the mountains. Craddock’s primary job will be to protect Jayco-AlUla’s Simon Yates and Dylan Groenewegen ahead of the sprint finishes.

“These kind of guys you need in a three-week tour,” Jayco-AlUla director Matthew Hayman said. “Very handy on all fronts.”

Even if they might not necessarily be at the front of the race.

There hasn’t been a true American contender for the overall win since Tejay van Garderen, who twice finished in the top five and wore the white jersey as the Tour’s top young rider. But that doesn’t mean U.S. riders are an afterthought heading into the 110th edition, given how much each of the team’s ambitions are riding on their shoulders.

And should one of those riders with overall hopes stumble? Then all bets are off.

“Powless, he rode more kilometers than anyone in the breaks last year I think, and we hope he takes the next step this year,” admitted EF Education–EasyPost chief executive Jonathan Vaughters said. “On paper, this is a great team. More Tour de France coverage from The Associated Press

One rider, two-time Tour de France champion Tadej Pogacar, was so strong at the start of the season that he was compared to the great Eddy Merckx before an injury stopped his seemingly unstoppable rise.

The other, defending champion Jonas Vingegaard, dethroned Pogacar last year and arrives in top form to defend his title next month.

The two have already gone head-to-head twice at the Tour, and are building one of the greatest rivalries in the storied history of cycling’s most famous race.

Add to this fierce rivalry four mountain-top finishes and a Tour record 30 difficult climbs, and you’ve got the ingredients for a mouth-watering three-week duel in the scorching heat of July.

And as if the script wasn’t exciting enough, there are more storylines in store to spice up the 110th edition of the grueling race that starts this weekend from the Spanish city of Bilbao. Former champion Egan Bernal is returning into the fray at the Tour for the first time since his life-threatening crash, while veteran sprinter Mark Cavendish tries to become the most decorated stage winner in the history of the race.

Pogacar was in a class of his own a bit earlier this year, triumphing nearly everywhere he showed up. Following his wins at the Amstel Gold Race and Fleche Wallonne, he aimed for a hat trick of the Ardennes one-day classics when he suddenly found himself down on the ground, forced to abandon Liege–Bastogne–Liege because of a crash that left him with a broken wrist requiring surgery.

Before the accident two months ago, Pogacar had been untouchable on all sorts of terrain, also dominating the field at the Tour of Flanders and the weeklong Paris-Nice.

His setback has reshuffled the cards.

Pogacar still had a decent amount of time to prepare for the Tour with training camps at altitude, and proved last week at the Slovenian national championships that he his back in form by winning both the time trial and the road race.

In addition to his own skills, and since you can’t win the Tour alone, the UAE Team Emirates leader will be supported by a squad made of excellent climbers and all-around riders, including the experienced Rafal Majka, Mikkel Bjerg, Matteo Trentin and Adam Yates.

“As a team, we have worked so hard to prepare and everything is where it needs to be, we have a very good group,” Pogacar said. “There will be some serious competitors but that will always be the case in the biggest races. We are going there to put on a good show and of course with the aim of victory.”

To cover the 3,405 kilometers (2,116 miles) featuring eight mountain stages across five mountain ranges, Vingegaard, too, can count on awe-inspiring teammates, the “super domestiques” who dedicate themselves to their leaders’ glory. Wout van Aert, Dylan van Baarle, Sepp Kuss, Tiesj Benoot, Christophe Laporte, Nathan Van Hooydonck and Wilco Kelderman will be supporting him.

The former fish factory worker from Denmark was runner-up to Pogacar in his first Tour two years ago then came out on top in a thrilling battle with his Slovenian rival last year, building his triumph on two big rides in the Alps and the Pyrenees.

Starting in the Basque Country in northern Spain, the mountainous nature of this year’s course, which features only one time trial, could well give Vingegaard an edge again, as his recent win at the Criterium du Dauphine — a tough stage race serving as a rehearsal for the Tour — suggested.

Behind the two, other contenders include Jai Hindley, who last year won the Giro d’Italia, Ben O’Connor, Enric Mas, and French riders David Gaudu and Romain Bardet. The Ineos-Grenadiers team will have various cards to play with Bernal, Tom Pidcock and Daniel Martinez.

Bernal, who won the 2019 Tour , was very close to becoming paralyzed after an accident involving a bus at the start of last year in Colombia during training. He is returning to the Tour for the first time since the crash.

Competing in his last Tour before retiring, Cavendish will try to win at least one more sprint in his attempt to break the record for most stage wins. Cavendish matched Merckx’s mark of 34 stage wins at the 2021 Tour but was left off Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl’s roster for the race the following year. He now rides for the Astana Qazaqstan Team.

Known as “The Manx Missile” because he comes from the Isle of Man, Cavendish also won the Tour de France’s best sprinter’s green jersey twice. He has won stages at all three Grands Tours — Tour de France, Giro d’Italia and Spanish Vuelta — and became a world champion in 2011.

How to watch the Tour de France online from anywhere using a VPN

If you find yourself unable to view the Tour locally, you may need a different way to watch the world's greatest cyclists -- that's where using a VPN can come in handy. A VPN is also the best way to stop your ISP from throttling your speeds on game day by encrypting your traffic, and it's also a great idea if you're traveling and find yourself connected to a Wi-Fi network, and you want to add an extra layer of privacy for your devices and logins.

With a VPN, you're able to virtually change your location on your phone, tablet or laptop to get access to the game. Most VPNs, like our  Editors' Choice, ExpressVPN , make it really easy to do this.

Using a VPN to watch or stream sports is legal in any country where VPNs are legal, including the US, UK and Australia, as long as you have a legitimate subscription to the service you're streaming. You should be sure your VPN is set up correctly to prevent leaks: Even where VPNs are legal, the streaming service may terminate the account of anyone it deems to be circumventing correctly applied blackout restrictions.

Quick tips for streaming Tour de France 2023 using a VPN

  • With four variables at play -- your ISP, browser, video streaming provider and VPN -- your experience and success when streaming the Tour de France live may vary.
  • If you don't see your desired location as a default option for ExpressVPN, try using the "search for city or country" option.
  • If you're having trouble getting the game after you've turned on your VPN and set it to the correct viewing area, there are two things you can try for a quick fix. First, log into your streaming service subscription account and make sure the address registered for the account is an address in the correct viewing area. If not, you may need to change the physical address on file with your account. Second, some smart TVs -- like Roku -- don't have VPN apps you can install directly on the device itself. Instead, you'll have to install the VPN on your router or the mobile hotspot you're using (like your phone) so that any device on its Wi-Fi network now appears in the correct viewing location.
  • All of the VPN providers we recommend have helpful instructions on their main site for quickly installing the VPN on your router. In some cases with smart TV services, after you install a cable network's sports app, you'll be asked to verify a numeric code or click a link sent to your email address on file for your smart TV. This is where having a VPN on your router will also help, since both devices will appear to be in the correct location.
  • And remember, browsers can often give away a location despite using a VPN, so be sure you're using a privacy-first browser to log into your services. We normally recommend  Brave .

Tour de France

The bike race is taking place since Saturday. Does anyone here know what channel is carrying it live? Did we lose that channel or did no one choose to televise the "Tour de France"?

Hi there @MNtundraRET !  Did some searching for you and show that this year's Tour de France is being aired on USA Network and live streamed on Fubo.

@XfinityArmand

Thank you very much Armand. I did not find it Saturday. I have it on now.

It looks like the USA channel is no longer showing Tour de France. I found that we can watch Tour de France replays on You Tube. I guess not enough people watched it on USA live.

After further checking I found that the USA channel is now showing the full stage repeated the following day at 1:00 am CDT the following day. That does me no good at all, but those of you with ON DEMAND, or a DVR, can watch the full replay.
