QC launches new tourism campaign – details here

MANILA, Philippines – As part of its efforts to get people to explore the city and its landmarks, Quezon City launched on Monday, September 5, a new tourism campaign, complete with a slogan, website, and activity maps.

The slogan, “QC welcomes you!” or “Welcome sa QC!” highlights the word “Welcome,” an acronym for “Walk, enjoy, learn, celebrate, overnight, meditate, eat – and shop.”

Meanwhile, lists of things to do in QC are available on the website QCTourism.net and on printed activity maps.

At the September 5 launch, a few copies of an activity map, under the “Learn” category were handed out, though all maps will be unveiled at the 3rd Global Mayoral Forum, which Quezon City is hosting for the first time on September 29 to October 1.

The “Learn” map features 16 tourist spots in QC, including the QCX interactive museum , the Ninoy Aquino monument, and the Ateneo Art Gallery.

The Global Mayoral Forum will have 100 foreign delegates, including mayors and leaders from the tops cities in the world.

Quezon City has been investing in their tourism recently, through initiatives like the QCX interactive museum and the annual QC Food Festival along Maginhawa Street.

Bautista says his plans for QC’s tourism has been fashioned after what he’s observed in his visits to other countries, including Singapore and Switzerland.

“We know that Quezon City doesn’t have much resources – we don’t have mountains, we don’t have beaches… In the series of conferences that I’ve attended to, on various topics, whether it’s on health or disaster management, or on the environment, I always make it a point to ask, ‘What makes that particular place or country viable for tourism?'”

Bautista, who was inspired by Singapore and Switzerland, plans on investing in more greenery, improving street signs and lane markings, and having a “history trail” – marked out landmarks that tourists can follow to explore the city.

The mayor has also given instructions to the city council to approve an Urban Design Ordinance to “define” several areas in QC, through projects like restoring and repurposing old buildings.

Quezon City is also set to host the Metro Manila Tourism Summit on October 17 to 18.

Safety and security

When asked about the safety in the city, Bautista told Rappler in an interview after the launch that there have been efforts into keeping tourists and visitors secure, like investments into CCTV cameras, and in the future, better lighting and parking spaces.

“We have also established a tourism police, that’s why we’re requesting for additional download of personnel. Naging intense ang QC police only in areas like Cubao and Eastwood, in Tomas Morato dapat magkaroon niyan, atsaka Katipunan (The QC police has become intense only in areas like Cubao and Eastwood, but there should be more in Tomas Morato and Katipunan),” added Bautista.

The areas Bautista mentioned are among the most crowded in the city, with their many malls, restaurants, theaters, and events. Katipunan, a large main road, is also home to many schools, including the University of the Philippines and Ateneo de Manila University.

The areas have had their fair share of crime and accident s in the past.

Herbert Bautista and his brother Hero were recently on the receiving end of a number of complaints from the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC), including dishonesty and negligence. This, after Hero tested positive for marijuana and shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) in a voluntary drug test

In a statement sent from Switzerland a day after the complaints were filed, Herbert said that he is not and will never be involved in the illegal drug trade. – Rappler.com

DOT supports sustainable development plan for QC Memorial Circle

M anila, Philippines — The Department of Tourism announced that it will support the Quezon City government’s plan to transform the Quezon City Memorial Circle into a model for sustainable development.

QC Memorial Circle by MikeLagaan Via Wikipedia CC

To initiate the partnership, Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat met with Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte to talk about the rehabilitation efforts. The city’s local government plans to make the site a major tourist spot, especially for local and foreign visitors.

According to Sec. Romulo-Puyat, Quezon City needs to take steps towards preserving the heritage park. She also encouraged that the heritage park maintains its family-friendliness. Belmonte, for her part, expressed excitement about the idea of working with DOT for the project.

The QC Memorial Circle will be much busier in the next few years. The station will become a point of convergence because of the construction of a Manila Metro Rail Transit System Line-7 station in the area.

Quezon Memorial Circle history and spaces

Ever since it was created in 1978, the Quezon City Memorial Circle has been a significant part of the city’s history.

The QC Memorial Circle, especially the towering monument on its center, is largely inspired by the art deco movement. The tower, designed by renowned architect Federico Ilustre, stands at 66 meters. The height of the tower is significant because it represents the age that former President Manuel L. Quezon was when he passed away.

The park also plays host to several small gardens. Among them is the Hardin ng mga Bulaklak and the Tropical Garden. When you roam around the QC Memorial Circle, you might also pass by a demo urban farm.

The Presidential Car Museum can also be found in the Memorial Circle. Inaugurated in August 2018, visitors will be able to see presidential cars of former Philippine heads of states there.

Quezon Heritage House inside Quezon City Circle

Other establishments you can find in the QC Memorial Circle are the Quezon City Experience, the World Peace Bell, and the Quezon Heritage House.

Quezon City launches new tourism slogan, website

The Quezon City government on Monday launched its new tourism campaign, which includes a new web portal and the slogan, "QC Welcomes You!"

“As the birthplace of many important milestones and ‘peaceful’ revolutions that shaped the nation’s history, Quezon City is again [in] high gear as we create another legacy, this time for the future generation, through this fortified tourism campaign,” said Mayor Herbert Bautista at the event, which gathered stakeholders in the tourism industry as well as members of the media.

Bautista said that a thriving tourism industry will lead to better opportunities for the city's continuing development. “If the tourism industry is robust, then businesses will be encouraged to open. If businesses will flourish, there will be employment. If there will be employment for all, then crime and lawlessness can be eradicated,” he said.

The new campaign includes the unveiling of QCTourism.net , a new official website that promotes the city's many attractions, including Quezon Memorial Circle, the University of the Philippines' Diliman campus, food hub Maginhawa Street, and the interactive museum Quezon City Experience (QCX) , as well as the city's festivals, hotels and malls.
