Supergoop! Mini Glowscreen Sunscreen SPF 40 Mini

Supergoop's Glow Screen is the ultimate multitasker and therefore perfect for toting on your next trip. Not only does it provide SPF 40 coverage, but it leaves the face glowing, glimmering, and sun-kissed without leaving a white cast , and can be worn solo for gorgeous “no-makeup makeup” glam or underneath foundation for a lit-from-within look. At 1.7 oz., the original bottle is technically TSA-approved, but the 0.68-oz. mini size is ideal for carrying in day-to-day bags, purses, and pockets. The more room, the merrier, right?

Paula's Choice Mini Skin Perfecting 2 BHA Liquid Exfoliant

Paula’s Choice Mini Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant

Megababe Thigh Rescue

Megababe Thigh Rescue Mini

Thigh chafing is no joke, especially while walking more than usual on summer vacation. Fortunately, Megababe knows their audience and launched a mini version of their life- (and thigh-) saving anti-friction stick that’s just 0.81 oz. It’s so tiny you can throw it in any purse or even a pocket, and reapply as much as necessary. Megababe’s stick is derm approved too: “This easy-to-use formula glides on easily, and includes aloe and vitamin E to help soothe the skin, as well as pomegranate seed extract to protect the skin and grapeseed oil to help hydrate,” says Marisa Garshick, MD , FAAD, board-certified dermatologist.

Living Proof Travel Size Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo

Living Proof Travel-Size Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo

Whether you’re prone to sweating or simply don’t have time to shower, dry shampoo is a fairly universal travel essential. The only problem? The best ones usually don’t come in travel size, especially since they’re often aerosol cans. Or, at least they didn’t, until Living Proof released a 2.4-oz. version of their best-selling dry shampoo. You can even pack this in your carry-on. See you never, greasy bangs!

The Best New Beauty Products Glamour Editors Tried in March

Belif Mini The True Cream Aqua Bomb

Gel based and lightweight, the Belif True Cream Aqua Bomb is a Glamour editor favorite that’s perfect for summer. It doesn’t clog pores, cause breakouts, or provoke excess oil production , but it is super moisturizing and gentle enough to not irritate sensitive skin. It also works remarkably well as a base or a nonsticky makeup primer or layering base, and is available in an itty-bitty 0.84-ounce mini size . So whether you want to try before you buy bigger or plan to carry it onto your summer vacation flight, you (and your skin) are covered.

Dermalogica Mini Daily Microfoliant Exfoliator

Dermalogica Mini Daily Microfoliant Exfoliator

You might be taking a break from work while on vacation, but that doesn’t mean you should have to stop exfoliating. Consistently named one of the best face scrubs, Dermalogica’s microfoliant exfoliator combats dullness and brightness without being too rough on the skin. Plus, the formula is customizable—it’s a powder that turns into a paste when mixed with water—and gentle enough to use daily. And now, it comes in a 0.45-oz. option.

Sunday Riley Power Couple Mini Kit Good Genes Luna Sleeping Oil

Sunday Riley Power Couple Mini Kit: Mini Good Genes & Luna Sleeping Oil

Celebrities, editors, and dermatologists love Sunday Riley’s iconic Good Genes serum—it’s cited in practically every other Drop the Routine —and with good reason. This serum smooths, brightens, and clears skin while plumping and combatting fine lines, and works in as little as three minutes. The Luna Sleeping Oil is esteemed too—Paris Hilton and makeup artist Nam Vo are both fans—since it helps brighten the skin while soothing redness and irritation. Together, these MVPs are unstoppable: And now, at 0.27 and 0.17 oz., they’re TSA-approved.

BaBylissPRO Mini Straightening Iron with Travel Pouch

BaBylissPRO Mini Straightening Iron with Travel Pouch

Now you can straighten and fix your hair anywhere and everywhere that has an outlet.

The fact that it comes in a 2.2-oz. bottle is pretty much a miracle.

Bumble and Bumble Hairdressers Invisible Oil

Tatcha Mini Liquid Silk Canvas Featherweight Protective Primer

Tatcha Mini Liquid Silk Canvas: Featherweight Protective Primer

It smooths and blurs the skin upon application, almost like IRL airbrushing, and provides the perfect canvas for foundation, since it doesn’t budge, get oily, or lose coverage all day. Which is why the fact that it’s available in a 0.35-oz. bottle is a life-, and makeup-, saver.

Laura Mercier Mini Translucent Loose Setting Powder

Laura Mercier Mini Translucent Loose Setting Powder

Laura Mercier’s cult-favorite loose setting powder is a godsend when it comes to setting makeup, but the packaging is on the larger side, which makes it hard to travel with. Glamour even named it our choice for best hair mask over all . That said, some editors specifically point to the combination of No. 3 and the Intensive Bond Building Hair Treatment as what truly transformed their hair, which makes the fact that both are available as 1-oz. bottles that much more convenient—and good for our hair. Also of note? Their equally beloved Olaplex No. 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo and Conditioner come in travel sizes too.

Garnier SKINACTIVE Micellar Cleansing Water Allin1 Makeup Remover Cleanser

Milk Makeup Lip Cheek Cream Blush Lip Color

Thrive Causemetics Deluxe Liquid Lash Extensions mascara is another universally beloved makeup essential . travel beauty products

Whether you’re carry-on for life or have zero shame about checking a bag, traveling means making some tough beauty cuts. Be it for TSA requirements, limited real estate, or the pursuit of a more simplified routine, everyday beauty staples aren’t always practical for on-the-go use. (My favorite foundation, for example, is tragically packaged in a delicate glass bottle.) In lieu of our day-to-day favorites, Byrdie editors opt for multipurpose products, stick formulas, and luxurious hydrators when we’re traveling for work or pleasure. Discover our favorites ahead, from multiuse sticks to acne-fighting mists.

There's nothing like getting off a plane and beelining for the bathroom to give your skin a good, deep clean. Airplane air really makes my skin so, so sad. Sturm's Enzyme Cleanser is my must-have for travel because it allows for a little grit and gentle exfoliation when my face needs it most. When mixed with water, the fine-powder transforms into a super soft, enzyme-filled foam (there's some vitamin C in there too). It sloughs off dead and dry skin, free radicals like pollution and other grime from the travel day, and leaves your skin feeling incredibly soft, fresh, and reset. I focus a massage along my nose and chin (where I have the most congestion) and it's a godsend on blackheads.

When I travel, I need a good silk scrunchie. It's an easy, cute way to slick back wet hair when I don't have much time to get ready, it allows me to (secretly mask all day), and it keeps my hair out of my face as I'm getting dressed and applying makeup. Overall, it's both incredibly practical and beautiful in equal measure. This one from Ceremonia is my absolute favorite (the silk scrunchie comes in a set with an organza option as well, which I love for added fanciness). It's the biggest, the most luscious, and really makes me look like I have my life together.

I am absolutely in love with this product. To put it into context, the formula went viral on TikTok before it even launched. This is a true skincare-makeup hybrid. Upon first application, my skin looked warm and sculpted . I use it to contour and lift (along my cheekbones and jaw bone) and then apply to the eyes for depth. It's a beautiful, bronze-y formula and also includes centella asiatica (my favorite for its soothing properties), niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid.

It can be difficult for me to doze off on plane rides, so I make sure to save these Self-Heating Warm Compresses for every flight. I got introduced to them because they soothed my eyes and sensitivity to light when I had a migraine. But now, migraine or not, bringing them with me on plane rides is a total game changer. The compress is more of an eye mask that comfortably goes over your ears and stays in place during a nap. They also heat up quickly and stay warm for around 30 minutes, which is more than enough time for me to be lulled to sleep.

If there’s only time to do one minute of makeup before boarding a flight, I’m grabbing this brow gel. Espressoh’s Hey Broh gel makes me feel put together with a few swipes. I’ve loved this brow gel for years to help me achieve a bold laminated effect, but it works just as well to slick my brows into place and keep them there for a natural yet polished look.

I have a ton of hair, and when I’m traveling, all I want to do is put it up. I’ve been reliant on these Large Slipsilk Scrunchies for years and I use them at least once a day no matter what. They are large enough that I can wrap the scrunchie around my hair twice but elastic enough that they’ll hold my hair in place with just one loop. Besides wearing my hair in an updo, I love using them to pineapple my hair at night under my bonnet to ensure my curls don’t get frizzy. Most importantly, opting for a scrunchie that doesn’t get caught on my curly 3C/4A hair or crease it has really decreased the amount of breakage and shedding I see.

Holly Rhue, associate editorial director

Brow products are something I use every single day. My routine typically consists of some kind of pigment product topped with a clear wax to hold my brows into a brushed-up position. But when I’m traveling, I love to go for the two-in-one with this new Benefit gel. It gives you all the pigment of a tinted brow gel, plus the sculpting, stay-all-day power of a gel or wax. It’s a nonnegotiable in my dopp kit.

I’m a terrible sleeper as is, so throw a plane ride, road trip, or time change into the mix, and my under-eyes are shot. So naturally, I never travel without eye gels. And while I love a heavily saturated, jelly-textured patch for my day-to-day, these SkinMedica gels are perfect for travel. They come individually wrapped with one set of patches per sachet, so there’s no dealing with heavy jars or tins. They’re also incredibly moisturizing without being soaking wet—you can easily use them on a plane or long car ride without dripping serum all over the place. That, and they actually adhere to your skin until you’re ready to remove them.

I’m nothing if not practical, so I’m never without this Vaseline stick on a trip. My skin gets extremely dry on flights , and I’ll use this handy stick for slugging pretty much anywhere—cuticles, under-eyes, mouth corners, you name it. I also use it as a lip balm, to slick back my hair, and as a body highlighter on my shoulders and collarbone. (It also comes in handy if you find a blister forming on your skin.) There are truly endless uses for Vaseline , and the stick design makes it easier to keep skin balanced and glowy while traveling.

Topicals Slick Salve Glossy Lip Balm ($16): Topicals’ latest launch—the Slick Salve Glossy Lip Balm—has quickly become a beauty essential that goes everywhere with me. The minty lip treatment is infused with peptides and a tri-ceramide complex that combats fine lines, texture, and dryness. When I swipe this on, my lips feel incredibly soothed and moisturized. Not to mention that they’re left with a high-shine, glossy finish.

Biossance Squalane + Ectoin Overnight Rescue ($68): Since I have dry skin, I incorporate intensely nourishing moisturizers into my morning and evening routines. Right now, the Biossance Squalane + Ectoin Overnight Rescue Deep Repair Treatment is the nighttime cream that’s always stashed in my dopp kit. The ultra-rich cream is formulated with ectoin to protect your skin from environmental aggressors, restoring magnesium and peptides, and hydrating squalane. After slathering this on at night, I wake up with skin that is noticeably plumper and more moisturized.

When traveling, I always want to bring products that make removing makeup and refreshing my skin a breeze. That’s why the mini version of Garnier’s SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water is a staple in my toiletry bag. When I’m ready to wash my face, I saturate one of my SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Eco Pads ($12) and gently wipe it across my face, eyes, and lips. The beloved no-rinse micellar water effortlessly breaks down and removes all my makeup without leaving my skin feeling stripped.

I am a blush fiend and usually bring at least three options when I travel (even if it’s just overnight). That being said, this is always one of them. First of all, it’s a no-brainer for packing since it’s so tiny and can easily be applied without a brush. It’s the perfect peachy-pink shade that I can build up as much as I want, and the glowy formula glides on without feeling heavy or greasy. I always keep it in my shoulder bag during a flight since it’s the perfect pick-me-up after travel even if I’m not wearing any other makeup.

I’m very unfussy with my hair and will happily use whatever shampoo and conditioner the hotel has on hand. This, however, is the one thing I can’t go without. A pump or two on wet or dry hair is all I need for smooth, frizz-free hair that looks and smells incredible. Most importantly, it helps coax my nearly wavy hair into a passable mermaid texture that eliminates the need for any other styling.

Good complexion products top my packing list, and I haven’t stopped using this concealer since I tested it a few months ago. It’s so creamy and truly foolproof to apply, and the satiny finish looks beautiful on both under-eyes and pimples. It can also be used as a foundation in a pinch, which is great if you’re an overpacker like I am. This is another one I keep on hand as a quick refresh after a flight.

Eden Stuart, beauty editor

I hate fussing with lots of tools and brushes when I travel, so whenever possible, I only bring one: a beauty sponge. That means sticking to makeup products that blend well with a sponge or fingers. For that reason, I usually travel with a few of the Nudies Cream Blushes from Nudestix ($35)—they come with a little brush but blend well with your fingertips too.

On that no-tools, no-problems note, I’ve been sticking to Ciele Cosmetics’ Tint & Protect SPF 50+ ($44) as my on-the-go base. It’s another product that blends effortlessly, and a little bit goes a long way for coverage. I usually just blend out a few drops with my fingers, and then go over it with a damp sponge to even things out. I also love that it contains SPF 50+; I am a firm believer in never relying on makeup alone for sunscreen, so I do apply some underneath, but as far as I’m concerned, you can never have too much protection.

I can’t possibly discuss my travel routine without shouting out Eadem’s Milk Marvel ($68) . Since it contains vitamin C and niacinamide, it really streamlines my skincare routine; it’s usually the only product I’ll apply between my face wash and sunscreen when I’m out of town. I brought the brand’s Bare-Skin Confidence Mini Travel Set ($45) home for the holidays and am so happy I did; the moisturizer is lightweight and silky, and the cleansing balm is great for days when I went for lighter-coverage makeup or just SPF.

Growing up, it didn’t matter where we stayed or went—I only wanted to know if the hotel had a pool or an ocean nearby. The urge to swim has yet to leave me, meaning my hair ends up a tangled mess by dinnertime on most trips. Ouais Leave In Conditioner has saved me multiple times, helping me tackle the toughest knots pre-shower and protecting my hair from heat post-wash. If I don’t have time for heat styling, I’ll use it to slick back my hair into a flyaway-free low bun. It’s truly the most versatile hair product in my bag.

I swear my skin knows where we are the second I arrive at an airport. Before we even hit the tarmac, I’m battling to keep my skin moisturized, but my lips are the worst offender by far. Since dry, chapped lips are not on the itinerary, I use Ilia’s Lip Wrap Reviving Balm. Formulated with hyaluronic acid and salicornia (aka sea succulent), this lightweight balm restores the skin barrier of your lips over time while imparting a gorgeous, plump shine with just one swipe. Plus, for those with flight anxiety like me, the soothing lavender and chamomile scent provides a bonus dose of calming aromatherapy.

There’s nothing worse than arriving at your destination only to find that the makeup bag you thought you had packed perfectly has eye shadow all over, thanks to a broken powder eye shadow palette. Trust and believe that cream or liquid is the best formulation to bring abroad. I specifically love Rare Beauty’s All of the Above Weightless Eyeshadow Stick, as it’s buildable, blendable, and fadeproof. The shimmery, neutral shades are perfect for every aesthetic, and I love the fact that the packaging has a built-in sharpener.

Jasmine Phillips, social media editor

Edge control is truly the first product I always throw in my carry-on luggage. It keeps my edges laid and tames any flyaways I may have with slick-back styles. I particularly love this product because it can withstand all heat and humidity so I know my edges are laid while I lay on the beach. I don’t have to worry about any white residue or weird stickiness. It’s just a great-smelling product that I keep near and dear at all times.

Tower 28 SOS Rescue Spray is a skin saver at home, so I’m sure to pack it when I’m out of town. It keeps any redness or irritation at bay so my skin can look and feel its best. It’s super refreshing and hydrating, which is perfect after long days of exploring.

I love a two-in-one product just as much as I love anything from Ami Colé. The Lip + Blush Sticks add a nice wash of color to my skin and help me limit the amount of beauty products I need to get my desired look. It contains desert date oil, hibiscus flower extract, and baobab seed oil to hydrate and nurture the skin, so it’s a win-win.

Ali Webb, associate editor

As we all know, airport restrictions on liquids mean that packing a carry-on requires making some hard choices. A good powder makeup product can really change the game, and I’m obsessed with this Charlotte Tilbury palette ($75), which includes two types of highlighters, a bronzer, and a blush all in one place. A few swipes on strategic areas like your cheekbones, Cupid’s bow, and inner corners of your eyes will have you glowing and contoured in no time, and I love how this allows me to keep having fun with makeup without sacrificing valuable liquid real estate.

No matter what beauty products you choose to pack for a trip, sunscreen is an absolute must. I’ve tried my fair share of formulas, and my absolute favorite is Supergoop’s Unseen Sunscreen ($38), which goes on smooth and nongreasy with no white cast, features SPF 40 protection, and creates an ideal base for makeup (so you can leave the primer at home). I usually stock up on the largest size, but the mini is perfect for travel.

At any given time, I have two bottles of Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Primer ($15): a full size, plus a mini to take with me on all my travels. I've found it to be an ideal hair product to pack because it serves so many purposes: It works as a heat protectant, makes my strands take to styling better, and includes a nourishing six-oil blend that can take the place of other leave-in products when I’m keeping it simple on the go. It’s color-safe and has smoothing properties, plus its UV protection will keep your strands happy and healthy if you’re headed somewhere sunny or spending time outside. This is truly my desert-island hair product.

Pack Lightly With These Travel-Sized Products—And Bon Voyage!

Whisking yourself away on holiday is nothing short of mood-boosting, that is, aside from the inherent trials and tribulations that are par for the course with travel, like flight delays and lugging your luggage around. There are some travel mishaps, however, that can be entirely mitigated with proper planning. Having one (or more!) of your favorite toiletries confiscated at security for being greater than 3.4oz, or arriving at your destination only to realize you’ve forgotten an essential skincare or haircare product that won’t be easy to duplicate whilst away, need not be part of your holiday itinerary.

The solve? Stock up on all your essentials in travel sizes that can come with you in your carry-on, and keep the army of mini products in their own travel pouch. That way, whether a spontaneous trip arises, or it’s time to head out for the holiday you’ve been planning for months, you’re ready to go without having to worry or really think about it at all.

From all-in-one skincare and haircare kits that take the guesswork out of packing to carry-on friendly SPFs and petite perfumes , the best travel size beauty products will have you ready to enjoy your trip.

The All-In-Ones

Sometimes, it’s easier to invest in a kit that already has everything you could need. Take the thinking out of packing with Aesop’s Arrival Kit, which will ensure a good shower no matter your location or skincare kits from La Mer and Tata Harper, so there’s no stressing over maintaining a skincare routine while away.

Sometimes fully washing your face isn’t an option whether on the road, in the air, or on the train. In that case, the Garnier SkinActive Micellar Water is a gentle yet effective way to remove the direct and grime before heading into other products.

Dermatologist Recommended: “Even though there is a bathroom, washing your face isn’t as easy on the plane. When it comes to cleansing, I find the easiest and most economical way is to bring micellar water like this one from Garnier.” — Dr. Jenny Liu , Board-certified dermatologist and assistant professor in Minneapolis, MD

Best Sunscreens for Travel

Peter thomas roth max mineral tinted sunscreen, spf 45, unscented, all-mineral, water-resistant sunscreen with broad-spectrum spf for sensitive skin and free of sulfates sls & sles, here's where to watch the bruins vs. maple leafs nhl playoff series online, how to watch mark wahlberg's 'arthur the king' online, how to watch 2024 nba playoffs: livestream without cable.

Dermatologist Recommended: “It comes out as more of a cream, which to me is hydrating enough. I don’t have to layer on a serum or moisturizer in the morning unless I’m feeling really dry. It blends right in, feels really hydrating, and I would say this is light coverage, so I wouldn’t wear this on its own. This also contains safflower extract, vitamin C, and vitamin E for some added benefits.” — Dr. Joyce

MDSolarSciences Solar Stick, SPF 40

The Best Travel-Friendly Beauty Products on Amazon

By AnaMaria Glavan

Best Travel Beauty Products on Amazon a collage of Paula's Choice Youth to the People and K18 products on a red background

All products are independently selected by our editors. If you buy something, we may earn an affiliate commission.

We hate to make assumptions, but we're pretty certain that everyone would agree on these two statements: One, there is nothing better than  going on vacation , and two, there is nothing worse than panicking over fluid ounces at airport security.

In case you're wondering, here's the golden rule: Liquids must be under 3.4 fluid ounces if they're going in your carry-on (in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you). Anything larger needs to be stored in checked luggage or it will be thrown out at an airport security checkpoint — not ideal if you're not planning to check a bag. So before traipsing through Italy or lounging on a Caribbean beach, you'll need to think about what to bring with you and how you want to pack it.

While some travelers prefer squeezing their favorite products into smaller, reusable silicone tubes, the process can be messy and time-consuming (out of the question for last-minute packers); other travelers rely on amenities provided by the hotel, which can lead to using nondescript body wash that leaves your skin feeling uncomfortably dry. The best solution to avoid both scenarios altogether? Selecting TSA-friendly products that don't surpass the 3.4 fluid ounce limit.

We've rounded up the  best travel beauty products on Amazon  to keep your skin and hair looking, feeling, and smelling their best while far from home. We're talking chemical exfoliants , nourishing cleansing oils,  weightless dry shampoos , and leave-in hair masks that come in teeny-tiny packaging. Plus, what better way to test out products than by trying their smallest bottles before committing to the more expensive full-size?

"Chemical exfoliation" is basically synonymous with Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Salicylic Acid Exfoliant, a staple for  tackling fine lines , blackheads, and emerging breakouts. We all know that travel can wreak havoc on your complexion (the change in climate, the understandable ratio of one glass of water to three cocktails — the reasons are endless) but thankfully, this TSA-friendly bottle will keep everything in check.

Getting your greens while vacationing can be a struggle, but thankfully, your complexion won't have to skip out thanks to Youth to the People Superfood Cleanser. This gel formula is chock-full of nutritious, pH-balancing ingredients (like kale, spinach, green tea, alfalfa, and vitamins C, E, and K) that seamlessly remove makeup without stripping your skin of its natural oils.

Alleyoop Dream Team

Bioderma Sensibio Micellar Water seamlessly removes every speck of dirt, oil, and makeup — and that includes stubborn formulas like full-coverage foundation, highly pigmented lipstick, cream contour, and waterproof mascara. Plus, unlike other formulas, this one is non-drying and won't irritate sensitive complexions (or eyes). Be sure to grab the 3.38 fluid-ounce bottle ahead of your next weekend getaway.

Travel almost always leads to dehydrated skin — and  Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hyaluronic Acid Serum proves that not all heroes wear capes. This serum locks in moisture and provides long-lasting hydration, so you won't be desperately digging for moisturizer come the afternoon. It also wears beautifully under makeup and has a lightweight, non-greasy formula that won't require 10 pounds of setting powder to offset an oily T-zone.

The 3-in-1 Alleyoop Dream Team is a fluffy moisturizer, eye cream, and face mask packed into one portable tube. The secret sauce is in its formula, which combines hydration-locking hyaluronic acid,  plant-derived squalane , moisturizing coconut oil, Tahiti-sourced tiare flower extract blend, and nourishing macadamia nut oil. And the best part? The bottle is refillable to help cut down on plastic waste.

First Class Beauty 2023

Beauty troubleshooters for every OOO adventure.

With summer on the back burner, my feelings for the fall and winter seasons are yo-yo-ing from love to loathe. The highs? The crisp tinge of an autumnal breeze, the crunch of sunset-tinted leaves scattered on the ground, and the sound of suitcases rolling in the airport as we escape to warmer climates. Then comes the dip: pumpkin spice lattes (sorry, not sorry) and flaky, dull skin thrown off by the quick temperature switch. Ashy, cracked lips at a time like this? Way scarier than a TSA pat down.

Transitioning from the vibrant warmth of summer to the cooler, drier months of fall and winter necessitates a complete beauty overhaul. Like the summer essentials you bought to streamline your vacation glow, the colder months are when you owe yourself extra care and nourishment from head to toe. Your skin, body, and hair are often exposed to harsh elements and stripped of their natural moisture, leaving them dry and prone to irritation or damage. Factor in the stress of delayed flights, recycled cabin air, and excessive eye-rolling due to the restless baby wailing behind you, and haggard skin is the consequence. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Updating your beauty arsenal with hydrating serums , gentle exfoliants , strand strengtheners, and richer moisturizers can provide a much-needed shield against the biting chill.

Ahead of your next OOO adventure, bookmark this page of the best beauty travel essentials of 2023. Curated and tested by ELLE.com’s beauty team and self-professed travel connoisseurs, this guide highlights the best troubleshooters for your winter beauty woes, guaranteed to withstand any arid conditions you may encounter. And because not everyone wants to check a bag, nestled in the expansive list are TSA-approved sizes and our beloved holy grails. (And if you need inspiration for your next escape , may we suggest anywhere on this list. )

Body Builders

Heavenly aromas, hydration heroes, fresh claws, hair force one, meet the editors, danielle james, elle.com beauty director.

“As the seasons change and we exchange our sundresses for sweaters, I do the same for my skin care routine. My lightweight gel moisturizer gets switched for a thicker cream and almost everything I use has hyaluronic acid—the holy grail for hydration. As a frequent flyer, I find that a change in climate and the recycled air from the plane can severely dehydrate my skin. That’s why it’s important for me to arm myself with these beauty essentials to ensure that my skin barrier, like my seat, is always in first class.”

Nerisha Penrose, ELLE.com Beauty Commerce Editor

“The cold weather already makes me miserable, especially when the flaky, dry skin it brings starts ruining my full beat. Winter is the best season to correct your skin, and it’s my favorite time to tap into all the exfoliating toners, corrective masks, and AHA, BHA, PHA everything I had tucked away during the summer. Seeing all my dead skin fall off my skin over time is as spooky as it gets for me this season. No jump scares necessary.”

This body oil is basically like a vitamin for my complexion.” —DJ

Blue Crystalline Blue Crystalline Face Serum

“This serum was founded by Aaryan Ramzan, a trans man who underwent hormone therapy and couldn’t find a skin care routine that could adapt to his changing skin. And while I may not be undergoing the same treatment, travel, time, and dry environments causes my skin (and thus my skin care routine) to fluctuate. Formulated with real exosomes and epidermal growth factors (sans any human DNA), this potent anti-aging product helps repair your skin barrier from sun damage and fine lines. Basically think of this serum as the byproduct of stem cells, which are often used to help repair your body. I’ve been using it twice a day and notice my skin looking healthier and my smile lines softer. ELLE has predicted exosome therapy will soon be bigger than botox, and for over-the-counter solutions, this topical formula is leading the way.” —DJ

Starlight Regenerative Cream

N8iV Beauty Starlight Regenerative Cream

Lotus Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm

RANAVAT Lotus Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm

“I’m not loyal to any cleansing balm—anything that can effectively remove my makeup in one swipe is always good in my book. But after using Ranavat’s Cleansing Balm once (after a five-hour matte makeup look, might I add), I feel like maybe I’m ready to settle down. After all, Ranavat makes it easy to be a devotee. The magic lies in its rich, buttery melt, thanks to key stars like mango and shea butter, which lend a faint, sweet aroma to make the dreadful makeup takedown process pleasurable.” —NP

“I’ve gifted this product to my mother and have told all my friends about it, too. This mud masks uses 26 minerals from the Dead Sea to help revitalize your scalp. While initially this was for your hair, the company received so much feedback that it was helping clear up people’s eczema and other skin-irritating conditions. So, yes, it’s that powerful. People come from all over the world looking for a healing effect in the Dead Sea, and it can be right there in your shower caddy. Think of it as a vitamin for your hair. ” —DJ

Stretch Face Brush

Glossier Stretch Face Brush

“Is it a makeup brush or a face tool? It’s both! Add a spa-like effect to your morning makeup routine with Glossier’s new Stretch Brush. This design of this brush was well-considered; it perfectly fits the curves of your face. When I apply, I don’t know if I’m giving my face a quick lymphatic massage or just applying my base. It can get into the curves under your eyes and around your nose. It opens and closes, so the brush isn’t exposed, which minimizes opportunities for bacteria and contamination but also prevents makeup from getting everywhere. I love it!” —DJ

Age-R Booster-H Glow Boost

Medicube Age-R Booster-H Glow Boost

“Beloved by the poster child for glass skin, Hailey Bieber, Medicube’s Age-R Booster is the sidekick to practically any treatment serum in your routine. Using electric pulses to penetrate the serum deeper into your skin, this five-minute treatment tightens pores, improves elasticity, and, of course, grants you glass skin.” —NP

Red Light Neck Enhancer Mask for Fine Lines

Higher Dose Red Light Neck Enhancer Mask for Fine Lines

“We pay so much attention to our face that our neck is often one of the first signs of aging. This red light neck enhancer is a perfect way to combat lines and wrinkles. The cordless design allows you to move about freely, and a remote control allows you to time the treatment for 10 or 20 minutes. And while it’s designed for the neck, I flip it around to give my back a dose of red light therapy. This is also very lightweight, comes with a travel bag, and can be charged on your computer, making it the perfect travel companion.” —DJ

Professional Conditioning Heat Cap

Gold N Hot Professional Conditioning Heat Cap

“Add this on top of any moisturizing conditioner for the best stimulating treatment ever. With three heat modes, the heated cap melts the conditioner or deep treatment into your hair, so you’re left with soft, bouncy, luscious strands that are prepped and primed for the next style.” —NP

Multi Barrel Beachwaver®

The Beachwaver Co. Multi Barrel Beachwaver®

”No one goes on vacation to be themselves. Here’s a three-barrel curler from Beachwaver that allows you to morph into three different personalities with the switch of a button. Opt for the Curly Cone for tapered, tight spirals; the Mega Cone adds bombshell waves throughout your head; and the Classic Cone offers more uniform curls.” —NP

Calpak’s Viral Clear Cosmetics Case Is Made For Overpackers

Published on 4/23/2024 at 4:05 PM

The Calpak Clear Cosmetics Case.

As a self-proclaimed over-packer and beauty lover, I can't travel without my makeup, skin-care, and hair care. I'd rather forgo an outfit than cut down on my beauty essentials — yes to me, they really are essentials. I've gotten pretty good at strategically folding my clothes and utilizing packing cubes to make the most out of the limited amount of space allotted in carry-on luggage . But, the one thing that I refuse to consolidate is my beauty arsenal. To have my cake and eat it too, I had to invest in a cosmetics case that could be as versatile as my needs. Enter: the Calpak Clear Cosmetics Case ($85).

Main Image

I've heard plenty of amazing things about the Calpak Clear Cosmetics Case — and it's even gone viral. I had to see if it was worth the hype. Spoiler alert: now, I can't use anything else. Keep reading to see how the Calpak Clear Cosmetics Case holds up during a trip and how much it can really fit.

What I Like About the Calpak Clear Cosmetics Case:

The Calpak Clear Cosmetics Case packed with makeup, beauty products, and toiletries.

The medium Calpak Clear Cosmetics Case is the perfect size for an over-packer like me who hates paying for extra baggage. I can fit all the products I need (and a few extras) for a little over a week into the cosmetics case. Once it's all packed up, it fits perfectly into a carry-on or a personal item bag . Plus, depending on my spatial needs when I pack my bags, I can store the cosmetics case folded and zipped up or lay it flat with the two compartments open. It has two spacious zippered compartments for all your toiletries, beauty products, and other essentials.

I consider myself to be a pretty organized person. I like having things in specific pockets and having designated areas for certain items. However, I found that the open design of this cosmetics case is more useful and functional than some of my other toiletry bags that have built-in organizers. I can maneuver all sorts of products, even oddly shaped ones, into the bag without having to work around built-in pockets or straps. Plus, I can truly stuff it to the brim.

For this particular trip, I packed my makeup and makeup tools into one section, and everything else like my skin care, body care, hair care, and toiletries into the other. It also has a mesh interior zippered pocket for small items as well. I like to use this pocket to store my contacts case, floss picks, and acne patches . I also appreciate its transparent PVC cover. Not only does it make it incredibly easy to spot my things, but it is also easy to wipe clean.

What to Consider Before Trying the Calpak Clear Cosmetics Case:

Although I love the open compartments of this cosmetics case, if you're someone who prefers designated organizational pockets, this might not be ideal for your needs. The zipper opening is a bit smaller than the actual compartment size, so you might have to angle or position bigger objects to pack them in or take them out.

The Calpak Clear Cosmetics Case in the shoe compartment of the Béis Mini Weekender.

The Clear Cosmetics Case comes in three different sizes, ranging from small to large. I highly suggest getting the one that best suits your needs. The small one is great for those who travel with just the basics or a personal item bag; the large is primarily meant for checked luggage; and the medium is an in-between size that can fit into a carry-on suitcase. I stored my medium-sized cosmetics case in the shoe compartment of my Béis Mini Weekender .

Who's the Calpak Clear Cosmetics Case Best For?

The Calpak Clear Cosmetics Case is best for anyone who can't travel without every item in their beauty routine. It is spacious enough to carry all your essentials, from makeup and skin care to hair care, body care, and toiletries. It helps keep your getting-ready necessities all in one place, but it's flexible enough to fit a wide range of products.

Is the Calpak Clear Cosmetics Case Worth the Splurge?

Every time I travel, the Calpak Clear Cosmetics Case is always packed and ready to go. Over the years, I've collected plenty of cosmetics cases and travel pouches for free. They did the job but were not the best quality. The cheaper organizers were either harder to clean, weren't spacious enough, and just felt like glorified ziplock bags. The Calpak Clear Cosmetics Case is one of those products that you didn't know you needed. Now, I can't imagine traveling without it.

Additional Details:

  • It's made from durable water-resistant PVC and polyurethane.
  • It comes in four classic neutral shades and 13 limited edition shades.
  • The cosmetics case comes in three sizes: small ( 8" x 4" x 6"), medium (9.75" x 5" x 7.5"), and large (11.5" x 5.25" x 9")

Where is the Calpak Clear Cosmetics Case Available?

The Calpak Clear Cosmetics Case is available on the brand's site.

I Used to Work in Beauty Retail, and These Are the 12 Products You Shouldn't Sleep on at Amazon — From $7

These are my tried-and-true faves.

Travel + Leisure / Tyler Roeland

As a teenager I was completely and utterly obsessed with everything beauty and skincare. Initially having learned about makeup from my beauty influencer and makeup artist older sister, I broadened my skills and knowledge by watching nearly thousands of hours worth of beauty Youtube videos any chance I could get. This inherent love for beauty actually led me to one of my first jobs, working at Ulta Beauty — helping shoppers find the best beauty, skincare, and hair care products around.

This was all well before I became a travel writer. Now, as a frequent traveler with an affinity for beauty, I’ve tried countless products and have curated a toiletry bag stacked with fantastic travel-friendly products to keep me looking and feeling my best wherever I go. And because I loved helping shoppers back in the day at Ulta Beauty, I’m using all the intel I’ve learned over the years to share a list of the best beauty products that you can find at Amazon right now that I firmly trust (and are even in my own travel makeup bag). My picks include everything from a $10 caffeinated eye cream that outperforms other more expensive ones in its category to this moisturizing French beauty secret that doesn't quit, and it all starts at just $7. Keep reading to build your perfect makeup bag.

The Inkey List Caffeine Eye Cream

The Inkey List makes incredibly effective skincare products at affordable prices. They used to be exclusively sold at Sephora, but now have hit the virtual shelves at Amazon, where shoppers have already dubbed this as the “best eye cream,” thanks to its “effectiveness, affordability, and simplicity,” that “make it a standout product.” And I wholeheartedly agree. It’s formulated with caffeine, peptides, and other skin-friendly ingredients to reduce signs of under-eye fatigue and dark circles for a fresh, energized look, even if you just hopped off a red-eye flight. Oh, and it’s fragrance-free for those with sensitive skin.

Amika Extended Clean Dry Shampoo

I’ve tried a lot of dry shampoos in my day, and the only one that I keep repurchasing is this travel-size, talc-free dry shampoo that keeps my hair looking incredibly fresh and voluminous, even if I haven’t washed my hair in a few days. I always keep a few around to touch my hair up whenever I need, and unlike other dry shampoos, it's completely invisible, which means you don’t have to worry about any harsh white streaks in your hair.

Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40

Supergoop is a long-time T+L writer-approved brand widely loved for its effective formula and better-for-you ingredients. This particular sunscreen from the brand is lightweight, scentless, and oil-free, which means it’ll sit beautifully under your makeup or can be worn as is and will even give you a slight glow. Oh, and those same credentials also mean that you don’t have to worry about the dreaded white cast thanks to its fast-absorbing gel formula.

Alleyoop Pen Pal 4-in-1 Touch Up

The first time I tried this product, my initial reaction was: "Why have I gone so long without this?" Its genius design holds a lip liner, eyeliner, brow pencil, and a highlighter all in a compact size roughly the same size as a sharpie. Besides cutting down on the items I pack in my toiletry bag, I also just love having this four-in-one pen around for touch-ups after dinner or transitioning from a day-to-night look from the office to dinner. It also happens to be on sale for $20 right now, so it’s basically begging to be added to your bag.

La Roche Posay Toleriane Double Repair Face Moisturizer With Niacinamide

The French skincare brand La Roche Posay is a trusted go-to at Travel + Leisure , and I particularly love this moisturizer for its ultra-hydrating and nourishing feel that has made it one of my favorite tried-and-true products. It’s also formulated with niacinamide (that locks in moisture and helps fade dark spots) which means I don’t have to worry about packing extra serums on vacation.

Honest Beauty 2-in-1 Creme Blush + Lip Color

As you’ve probably noticed, I love products that can do double (or quadruple) duty. It helps me save room in my toiletry bag and time getting ready, so why not streamline your makeup routine if the products genuinely work? I really love this cream blush from Honest Beauty that doubles as a stunning lip color. You can apply it with your blush, finger tips, or a sponge, and you’ll look glowy and perfectly flushed all day long.

Colleen Rothschild Radiant Cleansing Balm

Sometimes your traditional cleanser isn’t enough to get all of the dirt and makeup off. For a deeper clean, you should be supplementing a cleansing balm into your routine to really get all of the day off. As a bonus, its balm oil-based formula will not only clean your skin, it’ll also hydrate it, too. And while the price tag may be on the steeper end, a little goes a long way — I’ve had this cleansing balm for roughly three months now and have hardly made a dent.

EltaMD Daily Tinted Sunscreen SPF 40

If you’re packing light and only prioritizing items that’ll keep you protected and glowy, then you need this tinted sunscreen. It not only gives you ample protection against the sun, it’s also formulated with hyaluronic acid (that promotes moisture retention in your skin) for a smooth, light-to-medium coverage that helps hydrate your skin all-day long. I personally swear by this moisturizer, and so do dermatologists.

Peace Out Skincare Acne Dots

Between the stagnant air on planes and general stress of travel, my skin often breaks out with unwelcomed blemishes all over my face. I used to let breakouts keep me from fully enjoying my trip, so that's why I always travel with a pack of acne dots to keep unwanted zits away. These particular ones from Peace Out Skincare are my current favorite, and they are among the first I’ve found that actually look invisible when applied under makeup.

Grown Alchemist Amenity Kit

For those who have an affinity for luxurious skincare but can’t always splurge, consider adding this travel kit trio that includes an ultra-hydrating lip balm, hand lotion, and moisturizer. In fact, Grown Alchemist also happens to be a supplier to many luxury hotels around the world, and my first encounter with the brand was at a Mandarin Oriental in Madrid. Since then, I’ve fallen in love with their dreamy products that really bring that same opulence into my daily routine.

E.L.F Power Grip Primer

My makeup artist sister always spoke of the importance of a good primer to keep your making looking smooth and lasting all-day long. This particular primer is a fan-favorite to over 15,000-plus shoppers that have given it perfect ratings (including myself) thanks to its stellar gel-based formula that not only hydrates the skin and smoothes skin, but also keeps your makeup lasting all-day long. And while skincare can definitely be expensive, this no-frills primer is just $10 — yet I think it’s even better than more expensive ones I’ve tried.

Vaseline Original Petroleum Jelly

Vaseline is one of those quintessential skincare items that everyone should have in their skincare bag, let alone their toiletry bag. Whether used as a heavy-duty moisturizer for dry, cracked skin, as chapstick on your lips, or brushed in your brows for a polished no-makeup, makeup look, there’s really nothing Vaseline can’t do. If you don’t already have a jar, snag one for $7 today — it’ll change your life.

14 Asian American–Founded Brands Designing Travel Gear We Love

By Rachel Chang

All products featured on Condé Nast Traveler are independently selected by our editors. However, when you buy something through our retail links, we may earn an affiliate commission.

As a first generation Taiwanese immigrant, Kathy Yen says she feels a “profound significance” being an Asian American business owner.

“It’s a testament to the perseverance required to overcome the language and cultural barriers that I’ve faced along my journey,” Yen, who runs sustainable personal care products brand Oliver Flynn with her sister, says. “Each day, we work tirelessly to bridge these gaps, striving to communicate effectively and navigate cultural nuances in the business world.”

That’s just one of the challenges that the AAPI community faces these days, along with a rise in anti-Asian hate in recent years, as well as a long history in America of discrimination and exclusion.

“For decades, Asian Americans have been seen as service industry providers, as our parents and grandparents came to this country to open up restaurants, dry cleaners, and nail salons,” says Jin Chen, founder of the multi-purpose Planeket . She says because of the “lower class” perception of those businesses, “some people feel it’s okay to be rude to Asian Americans, especially the older ones. But what I see is that they are also entrepreneurs.”

It’s that can-do spirit despite the inequity that makes Steph Hon, founder of Cadence , which makes reusable toiletry containers , think of her own grandmother—who quit school in second grade to work in a factory sewing sequins in Hainan before immigrating to the US. “I feel very proud to be part of this community because it’s so resilient,” she says.

Banding together has been especially crucial to Asian Americans, as Yen says there’s active participation in community events, forums, and discussions that promote diversity, inclusion, and representation. “Whether it’s sponsoring cultural festivals, hosting educational workshops, or participating in advocacy campaigns, we are dedicated to creating spaces where the voices and experiences of AAPI individuals are valued and celebrated,” she says.

Below, 14 AAPI-owned brands to support while refreshing your travel gear.

This article has been updated with new information since its original publish date.

Luggage and bags, travel accessories, clothing essentials, beauty and skincare.

Back in 1989, Edward and Judy Kwon started making handbags and wallets in LA, eventually evolving into more travel products, like duffels and luggage . By 2013, their kids Jennifer and Roy joined the family business, and now it’s grown into a favorite among travelers .

The Hue carry-on is a common fixture in airports, while the Terra 26-liter laptop duffel backpack is a sleek but durable choice. Calpak’s accessories are among the most useful I've tried, especially the water-resistant zippered pouch set and Terra hanging toiletry bag.

Lo & Sons

Helen Lo had always been a frequent traveler, but with back problems, finding the right bag to carry was an ongoing issue. Her sons Jan and Derek prodded her to make her own—and doubled down on that idea by quitting their jobs in advertising and product research to help their mother, who was 65 at the time, realize her vision with the aptly named Lo & Sons .

With comfort at the forefront of all their products, the line includes The Waverley 2, which converts between a crossbody bag, belt bag, shoulder bag, and wristlet; The OG 2, an overnight bag, which loops right onto a suitcase; and The Catalina Deluxe Weekender, with a bottom pocket to keep shoes and dirty laundry separate from the rest of your essentials.

Just last month, the brand introduced the ultra-light and buttery-soft Aoyama bag. With two strap options and a flexible shape, it’s the perfect day bag for urban adventures. Community responsibility has always been in the brand’s DNA— 75 percent of its products are now made of sustainable materials, and nearly 4,000 bags have been donated to healthcare workers .

When Brandon Kim invested in a sewing machine and started designing a backpack prototype, he had no idea that it would become the start of a family business. He soon recruited his younger twin brothers—Dylan to handle marketing and Elliot to be in charge of finance—and the Kim brothers’ Brevitē was born. Shutterbugs will love the popular Jumper photo camera backpack and all travelers will enjoy the thoughtful features of the namesake Brevitē backpack with its passport pocket, luggage pass-through strap, and hidden compartments for valuables. Day trippers can depend on the ease of the crossbody, with four convenient pockets and an anti-theft design.

Founded Travel Gear Brands Brevite

As co-founder of the luggage and travel brand Away (an obsession of mine— and many other Traveler editors ), Filipino American Jen Rubio has been leading by example, making a major contribution to Stop Asian Hate, a community fund to fight the surge in anti-Asian violence. Away has also committed to making travel more equitable, through partnerships with Global Glimpse , International LGBTQ+ Travel Association , and Together We Rise .

Best known for its savvy, lightweight rolling suitcases like The Carry-On Flex and The Bigger Carry-On, the brand has also ventured into city-friendly bags, like my personal daily bag, The Everywhere Zip Backpack, and travel accessories, including packing cubes and tech cases.

Dagne Dover

As one of the three female co-founders of Dagne Dover, Korean American Melissa Shin Mash serves as the CEO of the bag line where practicality is top of mind. Take for instance its Landon Carryall bag, which is available in five sizes and multiple eye-catching colors and comes with a detachable key leash, exterior ID and phone pouch, and removable shoe bag. Other travel favorites include the Dakota Neoprene backpack and the Hunter toiletry bag.

Senvere’s Asian American co-founders Coral Chung and Wendy Wen originally started their luxury handbag brand in 2016 to fill a gap in the market for trendy laptop bags for women. Now an Instagram and celebrity favorite (Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Lady Gaga, and Angelina Jolie are all fans), the line’s convertibility makes it extra travel-friendly. Standout products include the Maestra bag, which can be worn as a satchel, tote, backpack, or crossbody, and the vegan Aria belt bag which functions as a belt bag, sling, shoulder bag, crossbody, or clutch.

Bringing your personal care routine with you has never been easier thanks to Cadence’s chic magnetic capsules designed by Steph Hon. Made of recycled ocean-bound plastics and customizable with icons or words, they’re the best way to keep your routine organized at home—and then pick it up and take it on the go (they're both TSA-compliant and leakproof, so you can put liquids in without worry).

Living in Anchorage, Chinese American Jin Chen came up with Planeket to serve multiple purposes during air travel. At its core, it’s a cozy blanket , sure to add comfort to any plane ride. But it also doubles as a wearable shawl (there's an S-shaped clip on the back to keep it in place around your shoulders), a pillow when folded up, and a storage pouch with a hidden pocket and a phone holder. Plus, it straps onto rolling luggage or clips onto a bag for easy transport. The four shades of the original Planeket—Alaska Flag, Glacier Mint, Silt Gray, and Alpenglow—all pay homage to Chen's home state.

Chen has since expanded her brand to include even more travel-friendly products, including a foldable sleeping eye mask and six-piece compression packing system designed to give you 33 percent more space.

Founded Travel Gear Brands Planeket

Aches and pains have long plagued my travels, so when I first learned about Forme, which makes posture-correcting bras, I had to give it a try. Admittedly, it took some getting used to, but soon I realized how much lighter my shoulders were and how I was focusing on my actual adventures instead of fighting a fatigued neck and shoulders.

It wasn’t until later that I learned Taylor Swift was a fan of the Forme’s Power Bra, with FDA-registered correction technology—and even later than I learned the company was founded by a Taiwanese orthopedic surgeon Dr. Stephen Liu to help his mom with her posture and compressed lungs from cancer.

Now the brand’s Sculpt+ Legging is among my favorites to run and travel in. Also great to alleviate natural pain on long travel days: the Arch Booster Sock and Core Tee.

As a longtime beauty executive, Chinese American Amy Liu wasn’t able to enjoy the perks of playing around with all the products around her—eczema left her dependent on high-priced or clinical alternatives. So she launched Tower 28, a brand suitable for all skin types, with every ingredient complying with the National Eczema Association’s guidelines. The line includes the popular SOS Daily Rescue Facial Spray to freshen up stressed skin and BeachPlease cream blush for cheeks and lips in six shades. Build your own set of five must-have travel staples, including tinted moisturizer and mascara, with the Tower 28 Essentials Set .

Oliver Flynn

When Brooklyn-based Taiwanese sisters Kathy Yen and Erine Yen both became new moms, they started to think ahead to an eco-friendlier world for their kids, Oliver “Ollie” and Flynn. So they launched Oliver Flynn, dedicated to plastic-free personal care products with safe ingredients.

I stumbled upon their booth at Manhattan’s Passport to Taiwan Festival two years ago, and as a bug magnet, the Don't Bug Me! natural bug repellent balm has become a staple in my travel bag. Other great sustainable options include a honey and citrus shampoo bar with a travel tin and natural lip balm, available in lavender, vanilla, peppermint, and natural.

Tay Skincare

Growing up eating organic fruits from her family’s garden, Sarah Tay was stumped when she moved out and saw the drastic difference in her first store-bought orange. That contrast sent her on a decade-long mission to better understand how to develop high-end botanical skincare products. The result is Tay, a line made in small batches every few months without any harsh ingredients, all of which are packaged in natural bamboo containers made of recyclable PET. Among the highlights are the Youthful Eye Treatment with apricot kernel oil, Lavender Body Crème with chamomile, and the long-lasting Essential Oils Bar Soap.

During a trip to Kyoto , Vicky Tsai—the daughter of Taiwanese immigrants —was inspired by the Japanese approach to skincare that less is more; she founded Tatcha with that idea in mind. With products like the Silken Pore Perfecting SPF and Luminous Dewy Skin Mist, the brand is built on green tea, algae, and rice—the three ingredients that make up Japanese geishas’ beauty rituals. Travelers can even curate their own Custom Travel Set (prices vary). Plus, with every purchase, the company helps fund girls’ education through Room to Read .

Founded Travel Gear Brands Tatcha

When Taiwanese American Cat Chen—who has openly shared her experience as an immigrant in an Instagram video —started looking for a fragrance that was “fresh and sophisticated,” but didn’t contain any harmful chemicals or allergens, she couldn’t find any that checked all the boxes. So she started her own line of natural perfumes called Skylar. Among the travel-sized rollerball scents are the driftwood-infused Salt Air and the popular ocean Isle Escape . Also in travel-friendly sizes: a body and hair mist duo and a range of mini fragrances, like Rainforest Mist or Lavendar Dunes .

Travelpro Luggage Review: We Tested the Platinum Elite Collection

Here's why these popular softside suitcases are worth the investment.

Travlepro Luggage Performance

The bottom line: should you buy travelpro luggage, more travelpro luggage we love, why trust good housekeeping.

Founded in the 1980s by a pilot who was always on the go, Travelpro is an innovative luggage brand that has set the standard for the rolling luggage we all travel with today. The brand's bags, initially designed for airline personnel, were the first to roll upright and use a telescopic handle, and they were quickly adopted by the public who appreciated that the bags were easy to use and made frequent flying a breeze.

Travelpro luggage overview.

Travelpro offers a variety of soft and hardside suitcases , along with other bags and travel accessories like backpacks, packing cubes and duffels. The brand's best-selling Platinum Elite collection is one of our favorite luggage lines for business trips and for those who travel regularly because of their top-of-the-line construction and functional features like easy-to-access external pockets, self-aligning wheels and durable nylon material.

Travelpro is best known for its softside suitcases. The Platinum Elite carry-on and checked bags use a heavyweight nylon fabric that performed well in our abrasion assessments , resisting wear and tear after being rubbed back and forth 15,000 times by our Wyzenbeek abrasion tester, which simulates extended use. Plus, the material is covered in DuraGuard, a water and stain-resistant coating that helps keep your luggage in tip-top shape even with lots of use. We gave the zippers perfect scores for water resistance during our tests.

Image no longer available

When we released the carry-on and checked bags repeatedly at different angles from our drop tester (pictured), we were impressed by how well the luggage held up, without major damage to the bags or breakage of the wheels or handles. After one roundtrip journey on an airline, I did notice some small marks and scratches on the plastic components surrounding the telescopic handle on the checked bag.

Your carry-on bag should hold everything you need for a short getaway, and Travelpro's Platinum Elite carry-on has a spacious interior with a capacity of 46L — 5 to 10L more packing space than some other carry-ons from popular brands we've tested. The bag unzips to reveal one large compartment to store all of your belongings (pictured), and it's full of helpful features to simplify packing.

One tester shared, "This had better organization than any other suitcase I’ve tried." When I packed the suitcase in the Textiles Lab, I was able to fit my standard packing load for a weekend trip's worth of clothing, shoes and accessories with ease, and there was room to spare. The softside material is flexible, so you can really fill it to the brim.

There's a removable garment bag, a wet bag for toiletries, several built-in mesh accessory pockets and four external pockets, including one that can hold up to a 15-inch laptop and another to store a portable power bank for convenient recharging on the go. To secure your things in place, there's an adjustable compression panel, and if you tend to overpack your bags like me, you'll love the 2-inch expansion system that's tapered to prevent the suitcase from getting top-heavy and tipping over.

the removable wet bag inside of the travelpro carry on suitcase

The medium checked bag has 97L of packing space (more than double the space of the carry-on) , making it the perfect pick for a long trip or a family vacation. At 10 lbs, it weighs more than some other medium checked bags we've tested, which eats into the 50 lb weight restriction set by most airlines.

a checked suitcase from travelpro lying open on the floor

Like the carry-on, it unzips to one large packing space (pictured) and is equipped with lots of compartments for organized storage like a larger removable wet bag, mesh pockets and a built-in suiter. One tester shared, "It helped keep me organized and made it much easier to find what I needed." There are two roomy external pockets to stash travel essentials, as well. This bag also has adjustable compression panels for security, and it offers 2 inches of zippered expansion for additional room.

Ease of Use

The telescopic handles on the Platinum Elite bags are contoured for a better grip (pictured). I was impressed by how easy it was to raise and lower the carry-on's telescopic handle without it jamming on the way up or down. The handle on the checked bag doesn't lift quite as smoothly, but it was incredibly sturdy and didn't wobble when fully extended. The carrying handles on both bags are made of genuine leather and aren't too tight, so it's simple to lift the bags into an overhead bin or from the luggage carousel.

a person holding the handle of a travelpro suitcase

A common tester complaint about Travelpro's Platinum Elite suitcases is they're a little more difficult to steer than other suitcases we've tested. The bags have magnetic, self-aligning spinner wheels that roll smoothly and glide over different surfaces like tile, wood and carpeting, but when I pulled the suitcases, they always drifted towards me instead of rolling alongside me, so I regularly had to redirect them.

The zippers are heavyweight and easy to pull, thanks to their contoured design, and they moved effortlessly along the track without sticking at the corners of the bag or getting caught on the material.

Yes! If you consider yourself a frequent flyer, travel for business often or are just looking for something sturdy and reliable, I highly recommend investing in Travelpro luggage , especially from the brand's Platinum Elite collection.

The bags have a more traditional look and aren't going viral online like some other styles we recommend at GH, but they're classic, and they'll never go out of style. Priced at more than $300 for a carry-on suitcase, the luggage isn't cheap, but it's built to last. These bags have stood out for years in our Textiles Lab tests, always performing well in durability and performance categories.

If you purchase the luggage on Travelpro's website , the brand has a generous 100-day trial period , so you can test it out and return it for any reason if it doesn't suit your travel needs. Travelpro also offers a limited lifetime warranty for its Platinum Elite collection, covering defects on wheels, handles, zippers and more — and it even covers damages caused by airlines.

two travelpro suitcases in a hallway

In addition to its standout softside suitcases, Travelpro carries other types of luggage. To match your Platinum Elite luggage set , opt for the Platinum Elite Underseat Duffel as your personal item. It's made with the same durable nylon material and classic style and has a built-in luggage sleeve to slide over your rolling suitcase.

If you prefer hardside luggage, Travelpro's Maxlite Air hardside suitcases are made with a lightweight yet durable polycarbonate material that performed well in our drop tests. The bag has a butterfly-style opening with two fully zippered compartments for maximum security, and there's an expandable panel for 2 inches of extra packing space.

The Maxlite line also includes softside bags like its Rolling Underseat Bag ] that's designed to fit under your airplane seat. It features a telescopic handle and smooth rolling wheels for easy transport at the airport. We also love the bigger Maxlite luggage including the large checked bag, which is lighter-weight and more affordable than the brand's other softside suitcases, but it's not quite as luxe.

Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg Plans to Abdicate

He has reigned since October 2000, but did not share when he plans to step down.

grand duke henri of luxembourg

Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg revealed he plans to abdicate the Luxembourger throne.

“There are plans. There will come a day when it will have to be done, and I intend to retire at some point. It's obvious,” Henri said.

The Grand Duke added, “All this is planned in family consultation. I find that it is very important to give young people a perspective. Transmission and trust are the two essential elements in my relationship with my son Guillaume.”

Henri and his wife, Maria Teresa, Grand Duchess of Luxembourg, have five children; Guillaume, 42, is the eldest. Prince Guillaume is married to Countess Stéphanie de Lannoy and they have two children: Prince Charles , 3, and Prince François , 1. He has not commented on his father's plans as of yet.

The planned abdication is following Luxembourg royal tradition: In 1919, Grand Duchess Marie-Adélaïde gave up the throne in favor of her younger sister, Charlotte. Then, Grand Duchess Charlotte followed suit in 1964, passing the throne to her son Grand Duke Jean, who did the same in 2000 in favor of Henri.

Henri would join a short list of monarchs who have abdicated this century including his father in 2000, and, most recently, Queen Margrethe of Denmark , who stepped down in January in favor of her son, the now-King Frederik X of Denmark.

Unlike Grand Duke Henri, other European monarchs have no intent of abdication. For example, King Harald of Norway, who has suffered numerous health problems in recent years, has said his job is one "for life." “I stick by what I've always said, that I swore an oath to the Storting [parliament] and it is for life,” Harald said earlier this year. And, King Charles III, despite currently receiving treatment for cancer , will likely never abdicate .
