Back when I first had my RV trip, my vehicle took the tool. Now that I have a crossover vehicle, I discovered that it is best paired with a travel trailer that weighs 2,000 pounds or less.

It is easy to check the actual weight, but you must be aware that it is the unloaded or dry weight. When you add things and accessories, you can go beyond 2,000 pounds.

There are so many weight errors above its not even funny! The Palomino PaloMini Travel Trailer (is saying the tongue weight is the trailer weight) and Riverside RV Retro the lightest trailers are all far heavier than indicated. I’d argue a bot wrote this, there errors are so bad.

The first thing you notice about this camper when you see it on the road; is how small it looks compared to other campers. I am 6’2″ 235 lbs and for me fitting into this camper was not a problem.

Features: It has a total of five 7 gallon jerry cans of propane, 2 for kitchen use and 3 that can be used for cooking if needed or for general heating/cooking outside in your fire pit area.

This gives you ample supply of propane for heating/cooking your food. There is a full kitchen in the camper, stove top, oven, microwave and large refrigerator with freezer on top.

I am very impressed with the amount of storage in this unit. They had a great plan here because when you are motor-homing you really don’t need to take anything but necessities for cooking/eating etc; because all lodging has kitchens that you can use or go out to eat at restaurants.

The table folds down into a bed which will sleep two adults (there are no bunks in this unit). The fridge slides forward and splits into two 1/2 fridges separated from each other by removable shelf dividers. That creates 3 separate areas inside: Window booth area, Fridge and freezer area. Each of these areas can be used to store different things depending on how the user wants it set up.

The bathroom is very small and to put it frankly, I wouldn’t spend much time in there unless you had to. That said, Cricket has done an excellent job with this space because all their 1/2 bathrooms are about the same size so setup shouldn’t be a problem as long as you plan for it ahead of time.

When you’re buying a travel trailer, the price may be the top consideration; however, you also need to consider your tow vehicle and how you want to camp. If you already have a truck or an SUV, it’s a good idea to keep the weight of your trailer at 80% or less of the maximum tow capacity – a benefit of ultra-lightweight travel trailers. Likewise, if you plan to spend most of your time in RV parks or off-grid may also ultimately determine your trailer.

If you already have a ¼ ton truck or SUV , then ultra-lightweight travel trailers may be the right choice. Likewise, if you plan on spending a lot of time “boondocking” outside of an RV park, a smaller, more maneuverable trailer will serve you best.

We’ve compiled a list of the ten best ultra-lightweight travel trailers under 2,000 pounds on the market today. In our opinion, these are durable, with a stylish design and an excellent level of craftsmanship. These models also have extra features and options that go the extra mile to make your camping experience completely enjoyable.

Anyone who’s spent anytime RVing has probably seen a Scamp; they are the classic lightweight fiberglass trailer. The style hasn’t changed at all over the decades. The Scamp ranges in length from a tiny 13’ at 1,200-1,500 pounds to a more generous 19’fifth-wheel, weighing in at 2,400-2,900 pounds. Scamps are all made to order and sold directly from their factory in Backus, Minnesota.

Scamps have a multitude of features and options. The Deluxe 13′ Front Bathroom models come equipped with a toilet and shower, and weigh in at a very modest 1300-1600 pounds. The 16’ Standard models weigh in at 1750-2000 pounds. If you want to step up to a 16’ Deluxe model, for an extra 200 pounds, you can get a shower.

The interiors are appointed with oak or birch hardwoods, and your choice of carpet or vinyl floors. The styling is basic and practical, and ready to style as your own. These classic little trailers are not only sturdy, but they also have everything you need to live comfortably on the road.

The Cricket Camper

The Taxa Cricket is a pop-up camper with a rugged, space-age look. It would look great towed behind your Jeep! It weighs in at 1,800 pounds and is 15’ in length, and it has a high ground clearance to get you deep into the backcountry.

One great thing about this camper is the airy, well-ventilated interior. It also has an interior kitchen with a 2-burner stove, a refrigerator, a sink, and a generous countertop for meal prep. This little pop-up trailer also has a dining table. Likewise, there’s an exterior shower with hot and cold water. You can also get a cassette toilet as an option.

The pop-up roof offers extra headroom, and depending on the model, you can add a roof-rack to carry all of your gear. Moreover, the body is Kynar-Painted and also has UV-resistant aluminum panels. It also comes with all-terrain tires and is pre-wired for solar.

A-Liner produces the distinctive, hard-top ultra-lite pop-up trailers you may have seen. The classic A-Liners have a low profile when towing, and weigh less than 2,000 pounds with a length of 18’. The Family Scout model also has an interior shower and a toilet, and still comes in at less than 2,000 pounds. While A-Liner trailers come equipped with a small refrigerator, they don’t have kitchens.

A-Liner has three different lines of trailers, their classic A-shaped hard-topped pop-up trailers, the Ascape, and soft-sided pop-up trailers.

The Great Ascape Plus is perhaps their most comfortable model, with an exterior shower, a kitchen, and a cassette toilet, all at 1850 pounds.

The Riverside Retro Travel Trailer

This is brand produces simple, high-quality trailers with a retro look and feel. These durable little travel trailers feature an interior of birch wood walls and furniture, reminiscent of an old Silverstreak trailer. The retro look is complete with a checkered tile floor. The frames are built with aluminum, and they’re pre-wired for solar.

While Riverside makes several models of Retro travel trailers in a range of lengths, only one could be considered an ultra-lightweight travel trailer; that’s the Retro511 weighing in with a dry weight of 1650 pounds and a length of 12’8″. One thing to note, this trailer has an outdoor shower, but it does not have a toilet inside.

The Forest River Flagstaff E-Pro Series

Forest River is a well-known and trusted brand that not only produces ultra-lite trailers, but they also manufacture quality fifth-wheels, motorhomes, and park models.

The Forest River Flagstaff E-Pro travel trailer is not only affordable, but it’s also lightweight and beautifully appointed. The interior is a sleek, soft gray that can be customized any way you like. Best of all, for those who wish to boondock, a WIFI Ranger booster and a solar panel mounted on the roof with a 1000 Watt converter comes standard on most models.

The E-Pro series has seven different floor plans, which can sleep two to four people. The lengths range from a tiny eleven feet to twenty-one feet. The unloaded weight ranges from just over 1,100 pounds to around 3,200 pounds. The two models under 2,000 dry-weight are the EK12K at 11’ 4” weighing in at 1252 pounds and the E12SRK at 12’ and 1763 pounds. Both of these models feature an outdoor kitchen and grill, and neither has a bathroom.

If you can afford to tow a little more weight, the E15TB weighs in at 2483 pounds with a length of 15’ 10”. This model not only has an outdoor grill, but it also has an interior kitchen and a wet bath with a shower and a toilet.

The Forest River Rockwood Geo Pro

The Rockwood Geo Pro series is designed to work with today’s smaller and more fuel-efficient SUVs. These trailers also come with a 100W solar panel on the roof and a 1000W inverter. Likewise, a WiFi Ranger signal booster comes standard.

The two models that are under 2,000 pounds are the G12RK at 11’ 4” and 1252 pounds, and the G12SRK at 12’ long and 1763 pounds. Like the Forest River Flagstaff E-Pro series, the interiors are decorated in a soft, neutral, and contemporary light gray.

The queen-sized bed dominates the interior of the G12RK. This unit has an exterior kitchen and a grill, a generous 20-gallon freshwater tank, but there is no bathroom.

The G12RK has a gaucho-style sofa that folds out into a bed, giving this unit a little more interior floor space. It also has an outdoor kitchen, a 26-gallon freshwater tank, but no bathroom.

If you’d like an interior kitchen and a bathroom, and can afford to tow a little more weight, the G15TB weighs in at 2483 pounds. This trailer is nearly 16’ long, and has twin beds.

The Jayco Hummingbird

Jayco is among the most highly rated RV manufacturers for quality. The Hummingbird series has seven models, ranging in a dry weight of 1,545 to 3,015 pounds and lengths of 13’ to 20’. These trailers are pre-wired for solar.

The only one that qualifies as an ultra-lite is the 10RK, weighing in at 1,545 pounds and 13’ long. The floor plan is basically like a teardrop trailer; the interior filled with a bed, a TV, and an outdoor kitchen. It has a generous 25-gallon freshwater tank, but it does not have a shower or a toilet.

The Intech RV Luna

This styling on the Luna is ultra-modern, and the high clearance allows you to go almost anywhere. It has a raised suspension, off-road tires, and a roof rack, making this a great little trailer to tow behind your 4×4. The Luna weighs in at 1,800 pounds with a length of 15’ 6”.

One of the best things about this teardrop trailer is the huge, panoramic front window for great views. Unlike most teardrop style trailers, the Luna has front bench seats and a table at the front. This allows you to comfortably look out of the large front window and admire the view. Likewise, the rear futons fold out into beds or fold up as seating. The outdoor kitchen has a 3-burner stove, a refrigerator, a sink, microwave, and lots of cabinet space. The Luna also features an entertainment center with a 32” TV.

If you want to camp in style and comfort, the Luna might just be the lightweight teardrop for you.

The Roulottes Prolite

This is a Canadian manufacturer, but they do have a few dealerships in the United States. Roulotte travel trailers use ultra-light materials from start to finish during construction. Likewise, they’re very aerodynamic, which makes for easier towing.

The smallest model weighs in at an incredible 550 pounds and is 11’ in length, while the biggest model weighs 3,700 pounds and is 23’ 4”. Overall, Roulette has eleven floor-plans that are less than 2,000 pounds. Prolites are built with a one-piece, fiberglass shell roof, that’s resistant to UV rays. Furthermore, the walls are insulated with DuroFoam, for long-lasting thermal performance.

The larger models, while still very lightweight, feature full kitchens and bathrooms. Some even have slideouts. For example, the Mini has a wet-bath, a kitchen with a large sink, a two-burner stove, and lots of counter space, all in a 14’ length weighing in at 1,150 pounds.

While it may be hard to find in the U.S., a Roulette Prolite may be worth a trip across the border.

Armadillo Trailers

This is another Canadian manufacturer, and Armadillos look very similar to the classic Scamps. While all Armadillos come in a 13.5’ two-piece fiberglass shell, there are five floor-plans to choose from. Furthermore, Armadillos are very well insulated and are designed to keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

These little trailers are carefully built with the best materials. You can customize the interior with a choice of several interior colors and fabrics, and have your choice of a dinette, a convertible couch, or even bunk beds. Armadillos also come equipped with a stove, kitchen sink, and a refrigerator. However, there are no options for a bathroom.

Final Thoughts

Before you purchase any trailer, carefully consider the type of lifestyle, you’d like to have while camping or living on the road. Most of these ultra-lightweight travel trailers don’t have a toilet or a shower, which may be OK for a short trip to a campground with a vault toilet. However, for a longer trip, or if the weather gets bad, that may not be acceptable. There is a lot to consider, so make your choice carefully, and enjoy your life on the road!

This ultralight travel trailer can be towed by most 4-cylinder vehicles. Because it is so light, it goes practically anywhere you can drive.

It’s perfect for small families too. The inside has room for two adults and even two young children.

The Scamp is a nice little camper. It’s available in 2 lengths (13-feet and 16-feet) with floor plans having an unloaded weight of less than than 2000 pounds. Scamp also offers a 19-foot model but that one is too heavy for our list of the best ultra lightweight travel trailers under 2,000 pounds.

The 13-foot Scamp comes as a standard model and a deluxe model. The difference is the Deluxe has a bathroom. This is a wet bath instead of a separate toilet and shower.

The 16-foot Scamp also has a Standard and a Deluxe model. However, the Scamp Deluxe model weighs more than 2000 pounds, so it’s not one of the three floor plans under our weight limit. The 16-foot Standard adds more counter space and storage.

I like the fiberglass body and the exterior look of this camper. However, I feel the inside is dated and needs a fresh new modern look. The current interior reminds me of my grandmother’s kitchen. Scamp can and should do better. At the same time, their target demographics might just be quite comfortable with the look.

This ultra lightweight travel trailer is made by a Canadian manufacturer. Their smallest Roulotte model is 11 feet 10 inches and weighs 550 pounds dry. Their largest model is 23 feet 4 inches and weighs 3,700 pounds dry. In between, they make eleven-floor plans with a dry weight under 2,000 pounds.

Prolite campers or “caravan” as they are called in Canada and many European countries have a one-piece shell roof covered with fiberglass. The walls are insulated with Duro-Foam. This material is known for long-lasting thermal resistance and water infiltration prevention. The floor is 5/8 plywood covered with Tekmodo composite panels.

The Aliner company makes two ultra lightweight travel trailers under 2,000 pounds. One is an A-frame camper, and the other is the Ascape travel trailer. This is the one we’ll focus on. Ascape is a teardrop-shaped trailer, or at least the front half is.

The Aliner Ascape is available in 8-floor plans that meet our dry weight requirement. The Ascape has a rear entry door that helps maximize interior space. The front profile is very aerodynamic which helps with fuel efficiency. The lower section of the trailer is diamond plated for protection, frameless windows on either side. The frame is aluminum and most of the exterior is aluminum skin. Inside you will find lots of useful storage.

I’ve just recently discovered Armadillo Trailers, made by another Canadian manufacturer. They make just one ultralight travel trailer under 2000 pounds, the Armadillo. This is one of the nicer looking ultra-light campers I have researched. It is loaded with features and the five floor plans all offer unique layout options.

The frame of the Armadillo is a box steel frame built by Industrial Steel Fabrication Inc. a partner of Armadillo. It has a 3500 pounds TorFlex torsion with electric brake assist. Marine-grade material and sealants are used throughout the manufacturing process. The body is a two-piece fiberglass shell.

Rock guard protection is built into the wheels. It’s made with four-season heavy insulation suitable for Canadian winters, and to reduce heat transfer in the summer. Al the cabinetry has radius corners. Enjoy plenty of of storage throughout.

What drew me to this lightweight teardrop is the front profile. The front of the Luna is not designed like your typical teardrop travel trailer. Instead of the sloping teardrop profile, you have this massive panoramic window that looks amazing.

Having a travel trailer for weekend adventures or full-time living is super fun and convenient. However, many travel trailers are heavy and require large trucks or other heavy-duty vehicles to tow.

If you want to minimize the weight you’re towing (maybe so you can tow with a vehicle you already have), there are tons of options for ultra lightweight travel trailers under 2,000 pounds.

The demand has really exploded over the last 10 years as people are really looking for minimalist camping setups with a small footprint, so there are tons of trailers to choose from. Many even have all the amenities you need for full-time living or extended stay trips!

So, I’ve compiled this list of 11 of the coolest travel trailers out there that also happen to be under 2,000 pounds…

What You Can Expect to Get With a Travel Trailer Under 2000lbs

First, let’s go over some expectations while you’re shopping. These are some features that you’ll typically see in travel trailers under 2,000 lbs. (though, there are always exceptions):

• Outdoor kitchens: Ultra-lightweight travel trailers are really short on room. This means that many of them save space indoors by having a kitchen outdoors. It’s usually at the back of a camper that has a large swing-out door that acts as an awning for when you’re cooking. Not all lightweight trailers have an outdoor kitchen, but many do!
• No bathrooms: Most travel trailers under 2,000 pounds do not have bathrooms. Those that do usually have a small toilet and/or an outdoor shower. Very few have both inside the trailer (one being the Scamp 13’ front bathroom floor plan).
• Off-road capability: Since these trailers are super small and very lightweight, they’re easy to tow anywhere you need them to go. Many also come with off-road wheels and high ground clearance so they’re made for overlanding .
• 12 to 14 feet in length: All of these travel trailers under 2,000 pounds will be between 12 to 14 feet in length. This is about the same length as your car, so they’ll be able to fit in a normal parking space.

A Quick Note on Travel Trailer Weight

Okay, before we dive in, let me explain a few terms you might see pretty often when researching and shopping for a lightweight travel trailer. These acronyms/terms will show up in the “specs” section of a travel trailer brochure:

• UVW: Unloaded Vehicle Weight is also known as dry weight. This will tell you how much the travel trailer weighs totally unloaded as it comes from the manufacturer or dealer.
• CCC: Cargo Carrying Capacity is the maximum amount of weight that a travel trailer can handle. So, if your travel trailer’s CCC is listed as 500 lbs., you can add up to 500 lbs. of gear, extra amenities, people, pancake syrup, bacon, etc…
• GVWR = UVW + CCC

11 Best Travel Trailers Under 2000 lbs

With all the nitty gritty out of the way, let’s get into the trailers!! All of these travel trailers are under 2,000 pounds. I’ve included ultra lightweight travel trailers with varying lengths, and with lots of different amenities so you can choose how bare bones or built-up you want your travel trailer to be.

Jayco Hummingbird 10RK

Dry Weight: 1,570 lbs.

• Outdoor fridge, microwave, and sink
• Window air conditioning unit included
• Lots of storage
• Indoor and outdoor bluetooth speaker

The Jayco Hummingbird travel trailer is tiny. It really just consists of a bed and outdoor kitchen. It’s Jayco’s lightest trailer at just over 1,500 lbs. unloaded. 

Inside the trailer, you get a 54 x 74 inch bed that takes up the entire floor in the interior. (The bed has about the same dimensions as a double bed). There’s some overhead cabinetry, a shelf, and a TV as well.

Like a lot of its ultra lightweight counterparts, the Jayco Hummingbird travel trailer has an outdoor kitchen. It’s located at the rear of the trailer and has a large pop out that covers you when you’re cooking. The kitchen comes with a fridge, sink, and microwave, as well a small amount of counter space.

Keep in mind this trailer is super tiny (it’s basically a square-shaped teardrop trailer). It doesn’t come with a stove and doesn’t have a toilet or shower. So, it’s probably best for quick weekend getaways for one or two people.

Scamp Trailers are far and away the most popular and recognizable fiberglass trailers on the market. And luckily, one of the models (the 13’) is just 1,500 lbs.!! This is super impressive when you consider all the great amenities that the Scamp travel trailer offers.

Don’t expect anything fancy in the Scamp though, the interior is very minimal and modest, and the interior furnishings haven’t changed much since Scamp started manufacturing its trailers in the 1970s. Expect wood paneling, carpets, and no super-modern amenities.

That being said, nothing beats the classic retro feel of Scamp trailers, and I personally think they’re super cute, inside and out!!

They even offer one floor plan of the Scamp 13’ that comes with a wet bath that has a toilet and a shower (that’s super rare to see in trailers this light). You’ll also get a convertible dinette and an interior kitchen with a sink and stovetop.

Forest River No Boundaries NB10.5

• Wrap around awning
• Pop up rooftop tent
• High ground clearance
• Pull-out outdoor kitchen

The No Boundaries is a super cool new trailer from Forest River. It’s a great example of RV manufacturers following the trend of making ultra-lightweight campers that are great for boondocking, off-roading, and outdoor activities.

The No Boundaries has a pretty common setup for an ultra lightweight camper. Inside is a convertible bed that takes up the whole interior when down. You also get some storage space inside.

Outside, there’s a pull-out “kitchenette” that has a refrigerator and a two-burner propane stove.

The coolest feature of the No Boundaries (in my opinion) is the pop-up roof tent , which adds sleeping room for one to two extra people. The trailer has high clearance and off-road tires so it’s perfect for trips off the beaten path. Plus, there’s a gear storage rack on top and a wrap-around awning that make it the perfect trailer for boondocking or overlanding trips .

Riverside RV Retro 511

Dry Weight: 1,780 lbs.

• Outdoor kitchen with stove, sink, fridge, and microwave
• Built-in rooftop rack
• Rooftop air conditioner
• Sport tires
• Convertible sofa

The Riverside RV Retro 511 is an adorable ultra lightweight camper with great standard features and an affordable price tag. The Retro is known for its super cute 1950s style. It comes in 10 different floor plans with the 511 being the lightest at 1,780 pounds for its unloaded weight.

This Riverside Retro travel trailer has a Jiffy sofa within, which folds down into a bed (about the size of a double bed). There’s storage underneath, and a wardrobe inside the trailer too. You also get a little entertainment center with a TV. Outside the trailer is an outdoor kitchen with a stove, sink, fridge, and microwave.

The outside of the Retro has that cute retro style, but the inside looks very similar to other modern-made camper trailers. It has faux leather cushions and vinyl walls. The trailer itself comes equipped with a roof air conditioner, and racks on the roof for hauling gear. 

The base model comes with sport tires to help navigate rough terrain. This trailer will work well for quick weekend camping trips or some off-roading that’s not too intense.

You can choose how to set up the “pods” inside, and select which amenities you need, or don’t need inside the trailer. You can choose to have a toilet, an outdoor shower, and a kitchenette, or none of the above! And with a couple of the setups, you can sleep up to five people!

The interior of the camper is comparable to the Scamp 13’. It has a convertible dinette, a small interior kitchen, and lots of options at the front for whatever other amenities you need. 

One option for the front is a triple bunk. Yes, triple!! So this trailer would be perfect for you and your family with three little ones. The trailer also comes with an optional toilet, couch, or another dinette.

Maybe my favorite feature of these trailers, though, is the cute little porthole on the back. I think it’s so adorable! Along with the custom colors, I think it really adds to the cute retro look of the Armadillo.

Forest River Flagstaff E-Pro E12SRK

Dry Weight: 1,763 lbs.

The Forest River Flagstaff E-Pro has become a pretty popular travel trailer in recent years because it offers lots of amenities in very lightweight trailers. The E12SRK is the smallest E-Pro of the 13 different floor plans offered by Forest River.

Inside the Forest River Flagstaff, you get a large pulldown couch (a Gaucho) and a TV. It also has a rooftop air conditioner and a large window with a pulldown shade. The trailer comes with an outdoor kitchen that has a stove, stainless steel sink, fridge, and microwave.

The Forest River Flagstaff is not only an affordable lightweight trailer option, but it also has every amenity you need for a short camping trip. As long as you’re comfortable cooking outdoors, the E-pro is a reliable option for a lightweight travel trailer.

Taxa Outdoors Cricket

Dry Weight: 1,753 lbs.

The Taxa Outdoors Cricket is by far the most unique trailer on this list. It’s so freakin’ cool!! Taxa Outdoors has taken trailer design to a new level, and it really shows with the Cricket.

The shape of the trailer itself is very unique, but my favorite feature is the pop-up roof, which adds tons of headroom and also some natural light when you’re parked. Inside is a large convertible bed that will sleep up to 4 people (2 adults, 2 kids). The indoor kitchen comes with a sink, stove, and room for a cooler.

Inside, the Taxa Cricket offers tons of options for extra amenities. If you need, you can have a window air conditioner, a portable toilet, and other cool features to make your trip a breeze. Plus, I love the rear hatch on the Cricket. It opens up the whole back end of the trailer so you can get a great breeze when hanging out inside.

And with the included all-terrain tires and the high clearance of the trailer, this is an excellent option for off-roading!!

Jayco Jay Feather Micro 12SRK

Dry Weight: 1585 lbs.

The Jayco Jay Feather is one of Jayco’s most popular trailer models. The Micro 12SRK floor plan is by far the lightest, its unloaded weight is just 1,585 pounds. The interior of the Micro 12SRK is pretty standard and comes with a fold down futon, a TV, and some indoor storage.

Like many other ultra lightweight travel trailers, the Micro 12SRK has an outdoor kitchen. Though, this one has some pretty unique features. For one, the kitchen comes with a TV as a standard feature so you can have the game on while cooking dinner. And a feature I haven’t seen in any other travel trailer–a Blackstone griddle perfect for cooking bacon and pancakes or frying burgers.

The outdoor kitchen also comes with a cooler, and it’s covered by the pop out door so you can cook while it’s raining if you need to. 

Speaking of all weather capabilities–this Jay Feather Micro comes with an insulated underbelly that makes it great for cooler weather…even winter camping !

Braxton Creek Bushwhacker 10HD

Outside is a pretty standard setup for teardrop trailers. You get a two-burner cooktop, a small sink, and a small 12V cooler.

The standing room in this trailer has a height of 6 foot 4 inches, so if you’re under that height you will be able to comfortably stand up and walk around inside.

If you want a lot of amenities in a small package at a great price, I think the Ascape is an amazing trailer. I love the unique design and all the features within.

What Vehicle Do You Need to Tow a 2000 lb Travel Trailer?

The great thing about ultra lightweight travel trailers under 2,000 pounds is that they can be towed by a wide variety of vehicles (and potentially a vehicle you already own!!) Most 6 cylinder SUVs have a towing capacity of at least 2,000 lbs.

Here are some really common cars that can safely tow travel trailers under 2,000 pounds: 

* The vehicles with their towing capacity in ranges mean that different versions of that vehicle have different towing capacities based on the engine strength. For example, the Hyundai Tucson SE and the Hyundai Tucson Value have a towing capacity of 1,500 lbs. But the Sport, Limited, SEL, and Ultimate versions of the vehicle all have a towing capacity of 2,000 lbs.

One of the first things you’ll notice when stepping inside the Bushwacker Plus is the surprising amount of space inside. In fact, they did such a good job putting this camper together that they were able to keep the shower and toilet completely separate.

Dual jack-knife sofas sit opposite one another, with an oval dinette/coffee table between them and a full kitchen in the front. You even get a fridge and an A/C unit, all within the same space and at a very affordable price range.

2. Travel Lite Rove Lite 14FD

The Travel Lite 14DS is one of the more fascinating campers under 2,000 lbs. It’s essentially a highly upgraded teardrop with a focus on a watertight, highly durable experience. The seamless roof certainly helps in that endeavor as well.

The 14DS is one of the rare models with high-end, premium materials yet avoids the usual weight increases. Due to the small black tank (only 5 gallons), it’s best to go with a cartridge toilet. However, outside of that, it’s hard to knock this little travel trailer that could.

3. nuCamp Tab 320

The nuCamp Tab 320 is nuCamp’s bridge between its larger 400 model and some of its smaller teardrop options. The 320 is large enough to include an interior kitchen with a two-burner stovetop and sink. The wet bath and cassette toilet are to the left of the kitchen counter.

A small fridge rounds out the interior, though it’s large enough to more than accommodate a couple. The microwave is optional, but there is more than enough interior space to hold one. You also get a 105-watt solar panel on the roof, Azdel, and fiberglass walls.

I just purchased a Honda CR-V so I could pull a small trailer because I don’t want a pop up. I didn’t know that the campers I’ve been looking to purchase are all over my vehicles towing capacity. I really wanted a 17 foot rv. Any suggestions?

We bought the Alto condo 3years ago. Yes it’s pricey, but nothing compares! It tows like it’s not there, and especially through the Rockies, we passed people left and right. we always get people looking at it when we pull into a campsite. And what you didn’t point out, it’s modern sleek inside instead of 1980s decor which it seems like all the name brands are sticking with. and set up is 10 minutes tops and no arguing. Plus the windows are fabulous. Worth every cent we paid.

Where can I find Telescoping hard sides pop-up trailers. I don’t care for the canvass sides but would like to see over the camper as I pull it, if possible.

We have a casita we got in 2017. We looked at them used and they were only about $1500 cheaper for older models. We got the 17ft with the dinette and full size bed brand new and upgraded. And we take really good care of it. We love camping in it. And we have the outdoor shower so we bring a shower tent and shower outside too. We try to prevent filling up the grey water tank. It was a great buy!

The Safari Condo Alto isn’t negotiable; they’re sold in the US direct-from-factory, they’re individually made-to-order, and what they charge is what you pay. You CAN buy from a couple of Canadian dealerships, but the Altos are so in-demand that the dealers don’t discount them much if at all. All that said, Altos are EXTREMELY well-made, rarely have any issues, and maintain their value really well. Like Airstream-well. That’s one of the reasons there’s a year and a half waiting period between ordering one and receiving it.

Also, your description of the Alto doesn’t mention its best feature: The retractable roof. When down, the Alto fits in a standard garage and is extremely aerodynamic and easy to tow. When up (at the push of a button), you get all those amazing windows and tons of head room.

Mike, as I go through these different models (small ones) I feel, well, like a loser. I know a lot of people can afford these easily, but not us. In spite of the fact that my husband is a Professor at the local college here – a full college, not a junior college, he’s still a teacher in a teacher’s salary. We’ve got a son with special needs, and healthcare didn’t include treatments until 2013, so at first, we had a lot of medical debt that took most of our income, but we recovered nicely. We tent camped a lot, but because of our situations, we need a tiny camper. We’re not poor or destitute, but we do live sometimes from paycheck to paycheck just as a lot of middle income people do. I started looking, around two summers ago, I looked into small campers for sale. YIKES! Not in our range! Then I tried looking at used – not much different, these tiny campers are keeping their value, unlike most recreational products, like boats. But I see why. Even the smallest or least expensive ones sport luxury items (to me) which we don’t need, like suround-sound media systems, TV’s, full sized fridges, temperature control, showers indoors, full sized bedrooms – operative word being ROOMS, and cabinetry that’s nicer than my home. We don’t need any of that. We just want a place to sleep, a toilet, and not much else. How and where can I find one like that besides a custom made teardrop who’s prices start at $6k completely hollowed out. Can you steer me in the right direction? I thought I’d saved up enough, 5 – 8k.

And you aren’t the only ones who agree that the price of campers can be very high. Plus the prices we show in our articles and YouTube videos are always MSRP. You can always buy lower than MSRP – sometimes as much as 35% lower than MSRP. You can try looking on RVTrader.com and filter for used travel trailers priced from lowest to highest. There are some junk listings but there are also legit campers for sale in your price range. Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace are other good places to look. All floor plans are impressive, not because of the options at your discretion but owing to the clever use of the space which ensures that despite the limited size and weight, you’ll be kept comfortable.

The Flagstaff E-Pro E12S designs are the more spacious varieties, making them ideal for families of four. All four family members can sleep comfortably in these two models, with plenty of room to stretch out. The travel trailers are constructed using an aluminum frame, vacuum laminated walls and roofs, and a fiberglass cap.

If you choose to do so, you can purchase additions, too, to enhance your experience. However, you do not have to go for any add-ons or expansions immediately. Instead, you can upgrade and add to your trailer over time or when money becomes available. The seven-floor plans aside, the travel trailers have a recessed cooktop, flush mount cover, outside speaker, tinted bonded frameless windows, 20,000 BTU furnace, and nitro-filled radial tires.

3. Palomino PaloMini Travel Trailer

As the brand’s wordplay would have made evident, the Palomino PaloMini travel trailer is a smaller and lighter version of its heavier and larger cousin. This is not a standard mini trailer when we talk about models under two thousand pounds, but it is one when you consider the luxury trailers made by Palomino.
