Riva Home acquires Voyage Maison

Leeds-based Riva Home has acquired Glasgow-based home furnishings manufacturer, supplier and retailer Voyage Maison, just four years after the brand was acquired by Ashley Wilde Group.

For over 20 years, Voyage Maison has developed a unique look aimed at country customers, themed predominantly around watercolour florals and wild British animals, painted using watercolour paint then reproduced in-house as digital prints.

Voyage Maison currently operates a trade department selling to both independent and major retailers, alongside a D2C ecommerce website.

Riva Home MD Justin Green says: “We are very excited to have Voyage Maison as part of our business. We have long been seeking a premium brand that is widely recognised and offers such a unique product proposition – allowing us to appeal to a more affluent demographic to help us diversify and grow Riva Home into a new space.”

“The acquisition allows us to expand our UK manufacturing operation with the different capabilities Voyage have at their Glasgow factory, and helps bolster the previous Staffordshire-based manufacturing acquisition made back in 2020.”

It is believed that Riva Home will be consolidating some of the existing Glasgow-based fulfilment operation into its newly refurbished 370,000 sqft head office and distribution facility in Leeds, which will likely to provide operational benefits such as accelerated lead times and an improved supply chain.

E ntre Paris, Toulouse, Londres, Melbourne ou Miami, depuis 2007, l’exposition « Art of the Brick » présente une collection de sculptures et de reproductions de tableaux en Lego. Elle offre aussi une belle collection d’adultes qui ne s’embarrassent plus de la compagnie d’un enfant pour aller admirer ces installations. On y croise également des familles dont les parents traînent devant chaque œuvre en prenant note du nombre de briques utilisées et du temps de construction, tandis que leurs gamins chouinent comme dans une expo de peinture flamande en demandant quand est-ce qu’on va à l’Accrobranche.

Ce phénomène trouve un écho dans les boutiques Lego, où l’on compte hors saison plus d’adultes que d’enfants. Un article du Wall Street Journal expliquait, début avril, que les grandes personnes représentent désormais une mine d’or pour la marque : l’âge adulte dure plus longtemps que l’enfance, les grands enfants ont l’avantage de ne pas changer de centre d’intérêt tous les trois mois et disposent en outre de plus d’argent de poche.

En France, 80 % des « sets » qui coûtent plus de 200 euros sont des modèles « pour adultes » (avec des packagings noirs et sérieux comme des déodorants pour hommes) ; cette gamme a été lancée en 2020.

A quoi on les reconnaît

Ils ont attendu avec impatience la naissance de leurs enfants pour les initier aux Lego. Ils n’ont pas réussi à partager leur passion autant qu’ils aimeraient. Ils interdisent à leurs rejetons de revendre leurs Lego ou leurs Kapla dans les vide-greniers.

Ils connaissent toujours suffisamment d’adultes un peu plus fêlés qu’eux – ceux chez qui les boîtes sont encore sous emballage ou ceux chez qui les enfants doivent remettre les pièces dans les boîtes d’origine sans les mélanger – pour se persuader qu’ils ont, eux, un rapport assez normal aux briques en plastique.

Ils connaissent par cœur le nombre de pièces des principaux kits. Ils n’arrondissent pas : ils disent quatre mille quarante-neuf pièces, pas quatre mille. Ils trouvent les petites expos locales de construction de Lego bien plus « dans l’esprit de la brique » qu’« Art of the Brick ».

Ils peuvent parler de « moc » ( my own construction, « ma propre construction ») ou de « technique illégale de construction ». Ils aiment bien l’expression AFOL ( adults fans of Lego ), qui désigne une communauté, mais pas celle de « kidults » (contraction de kid et adults ), qui désigne un marché. Ils ne comprennent pas les adultes qui ont des passes Disney à l’année.

We liked that she could pick up on our interests and take us places we might not have thought of to go. Riding the Metro with Lena was a real adventure and a lot of fun. In Saint Petersburg we found Anna well versed in the history of the Tsars and in the Hermitage collection. Arkady in Veliky Novgorod was a very good guide and answered all of our questions with ease. Novgorod was perhaps a long way to go for a day trip, but we did enjoy it. Vasily was a great driver to have and kept us safe with good humour and skill. We enjoyed ourselves so much, my daughter says she is already planning to return. We would both have no hesistation to recommend ExpresstoRussia to anyone we know.

Just wanted to let you know that My grandson Bruno and I couldn´t have been more pleased with our week in Moscow (6/15 - 6/21). We were absolutely enchanted with the whole experience, including getting lost a couple of times in the Metro during our free time. Although both our guides (both Eleanas) were excellent, I would particularly commend the first one (she took us to the Tatiakov, the KGB tour, and to that beautiful cemetery where so many great Russian artists, authors, composers, musicians, militarists, and politicians are buried). Her knowledge is encyclopedic; and her understanding of today´s Russia as a product of its past was, for us, truly enlightening. I will be taking another tour in Russia, with my wife, within the next two or three years. I will be in touch with you when the time comes. Meanwhile, I will refer you to other potential visitors to Russia as I meet them.

What is the best time to visit moscow.

Any time of year is fine depending on what you plan to do. Most popular attractions are in the city centre, and the Moscow Metro allows you to cover much ground in a small amount of time. Ensure that your accommodation is fairly central and book tickets in advance, so that you can make the most of your days. Do they speak English in Moscow?

As Russia’s capital city, tourists are well accommodated in Moscow. There should be English-speaking staff in restaurants, bars, hotels, shops and attractions in tourist hotspots, and there are also English-speaking tourist police. Transport services have English translations on their maps and English announcements via intercom; alternatively, order taxis from the Yandex Taxi app (Russian Uber), though it’s unlikely that your taxi driver will speak English. If you get stuck and cannot communicate, it’s fine to use Google Translate.

Is it safe to travel to Moscow?

It is no less safe to travel to Moscow than to any European city if you exercise common sense and look after your belongings. As with every city some regions can be more unsavoury than others, but no tourist attractions are located there. The traffic in Moscow is notorious, so exercise caution when crossing roads. Do not take unlicensed taxis; book in advance or take public transport, which is widespread and perfectly safe. If you encounter any problems, look for the special tourist police who can help you.
