Adele Laurie Blue Adkins is one of the most celebrated vocalists alive today. Her uniquely powerful voice, exceptional vocal talent, songwriting expertise, and relentless drive to improve her craft have cemented her firmly at the top of the music industry – and the charts.

Adele’s impressive songwriting credits, long list of music awards, and consistently sold-out tours are testaments to her widespread fame. Since her debut in 2007, no one can deny she is one of the best vocalists of our time.

Before Adele became a powerhouse musician, she honed her skills during her childhood in London, UK. Adele held a deep passion for singing and refining her vocals from the age of four, which eventually led her to the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology. She spent her school years diving deeper into music creation, learning songwriting and guitar. Soon enough, her pathway to success was well within reach.

Following graduation, Adele took the next step toward securing a solid record deal. She quickly landed a recording contract with the UK’s XL Recordings in 2006. Her 2007 single “Hometown Glory” provided a sneak peek of what Adele was capable of. New listeners couldn’t deny her strong, powerful singing range as she belted out her best on the breakthrough track.

Her rise began earnestly when “Chasing Pavements” hit the radio waves in 2008. It slid smoothly onto the UK charts and set the tone for her debut album 19. Adele’s signature sound made waves in mainstream media. She had the voice, songwriting skills, and full-fledged potential to become the next certified phenom.

Because of 19’s undeniable versatility, Adele earned two Grammy awards for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 2009. The stakes were high for the songstress’s follow-up projects, but thanks to Adele’s staple work ethic and natural talent, she tackled her next era with grace.

In 2011, Adele stepped away from her usual ballads with “Rolling in the Deep,” delivering pop-friendly, blues-inspired beats. As the single soared in popularity on the radio and internationally, so did Adele’s star status. Her sophomore studio album 21 dropped in 2011, bringing with it multiple smash hits. With “Rolling in the Deep,” “Someone Like You,” and “Set Fire to the Rain” all topping charts, Adele became the first female artist to have three simultaneous singles in the Billboard top 10. At the next year’s Grammys, Adele took home all six awards she was nominated for, becoming the only woman to ever do so other than Beyoncé.

Adele entered 2015 with more Grammys and renewed vigor under her belt. After nearly eight years since her official debut, the artist was ready to take on her title as one of this generation’s greatest popstars. She effortlessly segued into her next project by releasing the smash hit “Hello.” The single’s nostalgia, regret, and wistfulness weaved their way into listeners’ hearts and laid the groundwork for her next album 25.

With the help of “Hello” and Adele’s impeccable vocal range, 25 was one of the best-selling albums in 2015. It was no easy feat, especially with other top-notch artists like One Direction, Justin Bieber, and Rihanna also releasing new music. However, Adele’s presence pushed forward and remained steady on the worldwide charts.

Her most recent LP 30, released in 2021, continued to take the world by storm. Adele broke new ground as she sang about motherhood, depression, and divorce. It was a candid look into the artist’s private life, unveiling her struggles during the past six years.

Like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Celine Dion, and Britney Spears, Adele joins the long list of artists who have made themselves comfortable at The Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas as performers-in-residence.

As Adele’s discography grows, so does her popularity. Her breathtaking voice, devotion to her creative development, and work on upcoming albums keep her at the top of her game.

Adele continues to tour and perform live. Like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Celine Dion, and Britney Spears, Adele joins the long list of artists who have made themselves comfortable at The Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas as performers-in-residence.

Live reviews

(Adèle in Ziggodome 6-6-2016)

"Make You Feel My Love" blijft bijzonder als cover, hulde ook aan Bob Dylan.

The journey from the center of the arena to the main stage was lit by camera phones and shrieks of joy. Once there, “Hello” transitioned into “Hometown Glory”. London landmarks gave way to the Denver skyline, as the lyrics changed from ‘my hometown’ to ‘your hometown.’ What could have come across as gimmicky at some mainstream country show, somehow rang true as an honest tribute to the city in which Adele was an honored guest. The cynic in me didn’t want to show any emotion, but there was something so enchanting about the way she sang “the wonders of my world”, while images of the Rocky Mountains towered above her, that I just couldn’t help myself. It had been less than ten minutes since she had first appeared and I was already powerless against her charm.

“How many of you did not want to come tonight?”

(only someone with extreme self-confidence would ask that question, so when a few men confirmed, she had the perfect response.)

“Thank you for being a good sport and making my show sold out.”

Speaking as one of those people who don’t listen to Adele’s music on a regular basis, my biggest complaint is the lack of variation across her songs. There is no denying that voice of hers, but I feel like her albums are very vanilla. I do believe her lack of range is by design though. Keeping it safe is what has allowed her to appeal to so many, while offending so few. Last night didn’t exactly change my mind when it came to her songs, but her tremendous personality and sense of humor provided a depth that I wasn’t aware of before. She could have performed the entire concert solo and I would have been entertained. The fact that the screen eventually dropped after “One and Only”, exposing twenty musicians, including a whole crew of extraordinary backup singers, just added to the spectacle.

“My music isn’t that much fun…I hope you knew that.

I do have a couple upbeat ones…

let’s get them out of the way, so we can cry.”

Self-confidence gave way to self-awareness as the crowd came alive for “Rumour Has It” — one of the few songs you could actually dance to. There was a very classic feel to the presentation. The stage was framed in solid light, while Adele’s image projected in black-and-white like some movie star from the 50’s. The stellar band was separated into strings, percussion, and voice; all indispensable to each composition, but also completely anonymous and respectful of who they were there to serve. For a diva, Adele was surprisingly approachable as well. When she asked questions, she made it a point to listen to the answers coming from the front rows. There was a dialogue between her and her fans. When she saw a guy in a purple shirt, passionately singing along, she invited him and his friends on stage to take a selfie.

Hi, my history at the concert is really sad...For months I have tried to reunior the value to tell them..i tell you:

I am Venezuelan, In my country it is very difficult to get money to go to concerts, But adele in mexico was my best opportunity Since I have an uncle living there, So look for money in bank credits and work very hard to get a ticket for the concert and plane to get to mexico on November 15...After a lot of fight and help from incredible people who held out my hand ... I did it Had ticket for the show of November 15, and flew to mexico on November 12 with stopover in panama.

Everything went very well until two days before my trip my boyfriend in a fit of jealousy burned my passport, Yes as I tell them I burn it in a microwave, and there was no way to be able to travel so my dreams were shattered and my bank accounts at zero since the plane tickets were not Refundable and in my country the crisis worsened and it is impossible for me to leave my country now ..

Do not know how much I struggle to go to the show, for me not only is the music of adele she for me is inspiration and admiration for showing that dreams come true so it was very sad for me to lose everything to two days of achieving it.

I regret not having a great story to tell about the show ... sorry for my english I confess to ask the translator for help

I do not know if someone read this, I just know that I finally gathered the courage to be able to tell it .. if I had the opportunity I would try again, no matter if my dream is to go to an adele show, maybe other people have different dreams like knowing Snow, travel to Paris, no matter how big or small the dream or how many people oppose or discourage us, the important thing is not to give up ..

for now I will not be able to reach this dream but I hope I can do it and get up Again until I said I did !!

It is hard to know what to say that hasn't already been said, the list of superlatives has been done and each one is accurate. Adele may be nervous performing live, and there are times where that shows through, but somehow the fact that, arguably, the worlds finest singer shows a vulnerability adds to the performance especially when combined with her self deprecating honesty.

The attention to detail is clear, the fact that she thanks the guy who delivers 'hot honey' by name, thanks the guys who surround the stage during Skyfall and says 'see you all Saturday' shows that she is no Prima Donna artiste, Somehow through a meteoric rise, through all the fame and fortune she still retains that ordinary north London girl wanting to entertain her audience and entertain she does, in spades!

The T Shirts personally signed fired into the crowd, the note left on the back of someone's seat all these acts of kindness make someone's night unforgettable.

However, all of the humour, beautiful touches and adept performance are totally dominated by that voice, that wonderful, utterly unmistakable, beautiful voice which towered over Wembley Stadium and owned the evening. The songs are expertly crafted works of art in their own right and I love them all but if she sang the phone book I would pay to listen.

The highlights for me are predictable, Hello, Skyfall, Feel my Love, Set Fire to the Rain and Someone Like You, all of which were belted out by 100,000 people, these are the spine tingling moments you experience rarely in life. The one song I would still love to hear live is River Lea, lyrically brilliant and one of my all time favourite songs.

If you have never seen Adele perform live you really do need to and this may be your last chance, although I cannot tell you how much I hope it is not!

Having seen Adele previously at the Hammersmith Apollo a few years ago we really wanted to get tickets again, my wife tried for many hours to get tickets for her last tour and when this 4 night tour went on sale she tried again we were successful getting tickets for the Wednesday night, the only problem was she had no choice but to buy the drinking package at £249 each but because we wanted to see her we had no choice but to buy them. We had had an email form Songkick advising us to arrive early for security check which was understandable in the light of recent events, the line to enter was building up when we arrived at 4.30 pm, everyone was waiting for the 5pm opening, 5pm passed and everyone were patient but they did not start letting people in until around 5.20 pm. Eventually we were let in to the Bobby Moore suite to start the evening with a drink, the food choice for the suite was very limited, sushi, salad or hot dog (which were not hot at all), we enjoyed a few glasses of wine before we entered the stadium. Once we got to our seats for the start of the show is when we realised that if we wanted to see anything we should have taken binoculars even though we were only on the second tier to be honest Adele was a dot on the stage. Adele performance was amazing and once again she meet our every expectations she has an brilliant voice and is so down to earth. Paying that kind of money to see her show was worth it just to experience her voice and music, but paying that kind of money for the entry to the Bobbie Moore suite (which was just a function room) was really over priced. We had a fantastic time listening to Adele but the before part was a total waste of money.

Few artists have enjoyed the success over the course of a career spanning several decades that Adele has achieved over the past few years. Escaping the curse of that dreaded second album, ‘21’ propelled Adele into superstardom faster than anyone could have predicted and has broken probably every record that was there to be broken.

Seeing Adele live at the Royal Albert Hall back in 2011 was a really special moment. Clearly overwhelmed by the whirlwind success of the album, she took to the stage with a vulnerability that made her instantly likeable and relatable, whilst still delivering a class A performance.

Chatting to the audience like they were all friends and wanting them to feel like they were watching the gig ‘in their living rooms’, the most special moment of the evening came when the every single member of the 5000 strong audience belted the lyrics to hit single ‘Someone Like You’, leaving a speechless Adele visibly emotional and barely a dry eye in the house.

No big production or special effects were needed, as the beauty of the live arrangements and of those lyrics that made ‘21’ the masterpiece that it is, were enough.

Having publicly admitted that she suffers with severe stage fright, it is probable that we will not witness Adele touring arenas or stadiums. I believe this to be a good thing, as the beauty of her live show could not be appreciated in such big surroundings. Just make sure your one of the few who gets a ticket.

I was waiting ages and hoping Adele would announce a new tour since the 21 tour that i missed for being minutes slow for the tickets.

As the 25 tour was announced my only goal was to get those tickets at any cost! Everything seemed go bad from the start as the page for the ticket pre-sale did not work for me. I had no choice but to divert to viagogo and pay my ass off for two tickets - all my savings were lost... BUT - it definitely WAS WORTH EVERY DIME!

After few hours driving, overnight trip by ship and frustrating times getting to the concert area - We finally really were there.

I did not know what to expect from the show. But what ever it would be, i knew i would love just to see and hear her sing live.

As the show kicked off the feeling was just phenomenal - the emotion was to be hand felt. The show was not rockets, pyros and any fancy stuff... just Adele and smooth graphics and wisely chosen video backgrounds. But what else would it even need - nothing! Because... Adele!

The show kept the audience in it's embrace the whole set. It even made the bond to the audience deeper as she really got involved in person with some of us. She asked a couple fans up on stage and even sang a duet with one!

Anyways - will recommend to go see and hear her live to everyone! Adele is my number one female artist and i would not have missed her live tour again - and am really happy i did not.

Go, see, hear and love Adele!

First, I must say, that show was AMAZING!!!The black & white screen matches her music style perfectly, including the videos playing on.

Let's talk about Adele and her performance. She's a talented singer over the world, of course. Not only she can write and sing such good songs as Hello, When we were young, Send my love, etc., but also she's able to control the live show very well. Her voice, stage style, funny small talk between songs, even the eye contact with each audiences, proves that she can hold this grand show all by herself! That is a two-hour performance without any silence break, except for 3 minutes underground walk from central stage to main stage. It's unbelievable since almost all songs she sang were highly difficult!

She is a kind and responsible singer, also. No matter where you are, you can receive her beautiful smile and shining eyesight during the concert. She can even play jokes nearby the crowd! That must be everybody's good memory! Her humors and straightly personal characters make her so closed with fans. After each song, you may just treat her as a good friend when she talking!

As a VIP, I do think it's valuable to have such good musical listening and watching experience, except for the seat, which is not good enough for a VIP. However, that should be the problem of the hall's condition.

I must say, you should go for at least one Adele's concert in your life!

Our family of 4 daughters, my husband and myself saw Adele on 10/03/17, her first Sydney show. We have loved Adele since we listened to her first album in 2010. As soon as we heard she was coming we knew we had to be there. Even though we were seated very far away from the stage Adele made everyone of the 950000 crowd feel like we were all much closer.

Every moment was fantastic, Adele's phenomenal voice, the amazing video footage of Adele's eyes opening as the show started to the final song of Someone Like You, where the sound of the huge crowd singing in unison with Adele was unlike anything I have ever heard. The circular stage setup was amazing, giving everyone access to seeing Adele. Adele walked the circle giving every part of the stadium a chance to see her. The video footage that played with the songs was beautiful and ensured you kept your eyes on the stage.

The set list was a wonderful collection of Adele's 3 albums. Her interaction with the audience was funny, sincere and she really made us feel like we were right there with her.

I think when you see your daughters crying with the emotion of getting to see Adele live and then more crying because it was even better than you could of dreamed, speaks volumes. I would see her again in a heartbeat if I could and would say to anyone if you can go then do it!

I attended her concert in the biggest venue here in Oslo, Norway – Telenor Arena. It is perhaps mostly known for its lack of acoustic quality. The room is simply put way too big and sterile for that. Nevertheless; The Adele Tour team actually pulled it off this time though, and were able to fill the «dead» space in a more that satisfying manner.

Now, enough said about the venue. To the music: Being the big fan that I am it would be hard to hide my subjective judgement of the performance and music presented by Adele. But with that said I think it is fair to say that she, as a performer, is one of the best there is in the world today. She gives a lot of herself to the audience and often includes random attendees in the most spontaneous ways.

Music wise there is almost nothing to say other than that it is absolutely outstanding. Adele brings such a huge presence with her voice, unlike anyone else in the industry. Even the less “complicated” songs become big and overwhelmingly magnificent.

All in all, you get the feeling that Adele knows how it is to be “on the other side” (had to write that) and therefore she isn’t afraid of posing for a selfie or giving out large amounts of waves to the crowd.

There is no doubt that Adele forever will be remembered as one of the greatest artist of our century.

Adele says she’ll do a world tour for her next album

Despite this, Adele also said she didn't think she'd write another album "for some time"

Adele

Adele has said she will embark on a world tour on her next album cycle.

The artist recently resumed her ‘Weekends With Adele’ Las Vegas residency, which will be running at Caesar’s Palace until June after being extended .

In the middle of the show, Adele revealed that fans will probably have a while to wait before she releases the follow-up to 2021’s ’30’ , but she will tour it more than she has done with albums in the past.

““I just don’t think I’m gonna write an album for quite some time,” she told her audience last night (January 27). “But next time I do, I’ll come to wherever it is you live.”

A few months ago, Adele mentioned that the Vegas residency has helped her “fall back in love with performing live again”.

“I needed to reconnect with my songs and remember what they mean to me, and I have!” Adele wrote on X when it was announced her residency was being extended.

“Being on stage over the last year so up close and personal with an audience again after all these years has been a truly extraordinary restorative experience that I’ll never forget. All the hilarious, soulful, wild and heartbreaking interactions we’ve had are banked in my mind for life. The looks on your faces, seeing you laugh and cry together singing your hearts out and hoarding bags of confetti. All the simi dolls, friendship bracelets, flowers, facetime calls and flags. It’s crazy how joyful a show full of sad songs can be!!”

Adele also recently explained why she has had such large gaps between her albums .

“Sometimes I wonder if people think I’m calculated when I disappear for years on end and I’m elusive and I believe that less is more or something like that,” she said. But the real reason that I’ve only had four albums and I don’t think that many people know this – they know that I have a child – my son is 11 years old. So if you do the math, that means that at the height of ‘21’… I fell pregnant. To many that would be, and it was, considered career suicide.

“It was there and then that I chose to reject the scarcity of success, and the idea that you have to be constantly relevant to be successful,” she continued. “And that perhaps, just maybe, I could be a hit both on and off the stage. And you’ll never guess what — I fucking got away with it!”

While tickets for the Weekends With Adele tour dates are mostly sold out on direct platforms like TicketMaster , fans who want to ditch their earbuds and experience Adele live still have a few options to snag tickets on the secondary market. Keep in mind that prices on ticket reselling platforms fluctuate greatly date-to-date, and the cost varies wildly between the Vegas and Munich events.

  • Ticket reseller StubHub has concertgoers covered for all of Adele’s upcoming tour dates in the United States and Europe, with U.S. tickets selling for $700 and up; tickets in Germany start at $100.
  • Prices on Vivid Seats are similar to StubHub, with the Vegas shows starting at around $770 and the Munich shows starting around $100 a ticket.
  • SeatGeek is only offering tickets for Adele’s shows in Las Vegas, with tickets starting at $750. Prices have escalated quickly, though, with Seatgeek warning on its website, “The average price for Adele tickets is around $3,216” and “floor seats for Adele cost around $2,350.”
  • TicketNetwork’s prices for Adele’s Vegas show begin around $1,000 each, and her Munich show tickets start at $120. However, you can save $25 on a purchase of $150 or more using promo code TNTIX25 at checkout.

When Do Adele Tickets Go On Sale?

Tickets are already on sale, so don’t wait too long if you want to see Adele live this year. Many dates—including her re-opening night in Vegas on May 17—are listed on ticket sites as “selling fast.”

Adele announced on Instagram earlier this month that the Vegas concerts in October and November will be shows that had to be rescheduled from March. Ticket holders should expect an email with more information about their new show date.

The singer had to put her Vegas residency on hold during after she fell ill. Being sick took “a toll on [her] voice,” she shared in a statement, as reported by Deadline .

Of course, if you don’t yet have a seat at one of those shows, you can still purchase tickets for the October and November dates; they are not exclusively for fans who are being rescheduled.

How Much Are Adele Tickets?

It should go without saying that as with all live performances, ticket prices vary by venue and the seat’s proximity to the stage. For this tour, Adele is limiting her performances to just two stages: The Colosseum at Caesars Palace for her Las Vegas residency and The Open Air Arena at Messe München in Munich, Germany.

On average, you’ll need to spend significantly more money on tickets for the Vegas show than on the Munich gigs. The lowest prices at the Messe München clock in less than $150, while Vegas tickets start around $700 (with some tickets selling for as much as $6,000).

It’s also important to remember that ticketing sites typically charge additional fees that aren’t included in the original price of the ticket but instead are added at checkout.

Is An Adele World Tour Happening Soon? Singer’s Agent Clarifies Fan Speculation

Adele

Next to Beyonce and Taylor Swift, Adele is perhaps one of the biggest artists on the planet. Her wildly successful Las Vegas Residency is a huge testament to that.

Very recently, Adele fans were thrilled when she teased that she might be seeing her fans on the "other side" soon. Since then, fans have speculated that Adele might be going on a world tour.

However, her manager seemed to have debunked those speculations.

Adele World Tour Not Happening?

Speaking to Metro UK  at the Music Industry Trusts (MITS) Awards, Adele's long-standing agent, Lucy Dickins, seemed to suggest that the "Hello" singer isn't one to do what is obvious.

"I don't know - she won't do what everyone else does,' she shared. "[Adele's] never done that in her life so I'd be surprised if she comes and does the same as everyone else."

Adele has been busy with her wildly successful "Weekends with Adele" at the Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. She ended her 2023 shows last Nov. 4, 2023. She is set to return on Jan. 19, 2024, which will last until Jun. 15, 2024.

However, Dickins pointed out that one can never "rule anything out" with Adele.

Fans Speculate That An Adele World Tour Might Happen

In an Instagram post , Adele hyped up international fans when she seemed to suggest that she would be embarking on a world tour next year.

"This residency, these shows have changed my life. I desperately needed to fall back in love with performing live again, and I have. I needed to reconnect with my songs and remember what they mean to me, and I have!" she captioned the video which featured a compilation of her onstage antics and memorable fan moments during her show.

However, it was this line that tipped fans off: "So let's go one last time before I turn into a showgirl forever! Love you and I'll see you on the otherside soon x"

While the parting note sounds like any other parting message, fans seemed to think that "see you on the otherside soon" was an indication that she'll be ready to embark on an Adele world tour soon.

""see you on the otherside soon" BETTER NOT PLAYING WITH US THIS TIME CRYING IN INTERNATIONAL," a fan shared.

"Oh I'm praying for a world tour!! Manchester pending please," another commented.

"WORLD TOUR MAM A WORLD TOUR WE NEED IT," someone asked.

It goes without saying that Adele is the artist of the moment and her Adele live 2016 World Tour was one of the most highly anticipated tours of the year, with tickets selling out within moments of being released. Creative Technology (CT) supplied the video solutions needed to help make this tour even memorable.

Working with Adele’s production team headed up by Richard Young, CT provided a variety of technologies to achieve this fantastic show. From the upstage LED to the two main stages, the tour went beyond the traditional set up as Adele became more involved in the tour’s production stages.

The 14m-high B stage tower projection was created using a series of Panasonic 20K projectors which were mounted portrait, projecting onto 4 roll-drop screens of white voile. Each side of the cubic tower featured a projected live feed of Adele singing as she stood in the tower’s central atrium. This videofeed was directed by tour director, Matt Askem, as he selected one of the five HD cameras (all with a long lenses), including a Towercam and driven by Photon Media servers to flip the images 90 degrees.

CT’s Head of Music and Touring, Graham Miller, is proud to be a part of this huge tour and to have worked with Adele’s creative team. “Working with the Production Manager, Richard Young, and the design team: Es Devlin, Patrick Woodroffe and Luke Halls has been a pleasure,” says Graham, “The team know how to deliver an elegant show that takes advantage of many different layers of video and it’s been a joy to be able to supply those layers with CT”.

Creating a custom show package for the tour, CT’s project manager, Jim Liddiard, has been working hand-in-hand with the touring crew throughout the initial stages of Adele’s tour and loving it every step of the way. “It’s been great helping to tailor a year-long show package that will travel the world with this tour. The touring crew have been brilliant and the whole experience will be a personal highlight for 2016,” says Jim.

After initially beginning her tour in Belfast, Adele is now performing at the London O2 until April, where she will head to Europe and finishing her tour in the USA in November. Completing a total of 104 shows, Adele has a full year ahead!

Adele is heading to Wembley Stadium for four nights for The Finale of her world tour.

The global superstar will perform the final shows of her world tour on June 28 to 29 and July 1 to 2.

These hugely anticipated shows will see Adele perform to more than 70,000 fans each night, marking her biggest headline gigs to date.

The shows were originally announced last November when the singer uploaded a video of her singing "Three Lions" to Instagram.

Adele changed the lyrics to "she's coming home" before saying "I'm playing two nights at Wembley Stadium".

The reaction to the homecoming shows was so huge that the run was extended to four days which all sold out instantly.

The Wembley Stadium shows complete a 122-date world tour which included shows in North America, Australia, New Zealand and a headline set at Glastonbury 2016.

Many fans and news outlets believe these could be her last live shows for quite a while due to the singer's openness about her nerves playing live.

This means The Finale is likely to be extra special for both Adele and her fans attending.

Are tickets still available?

adele the world tour norway

The shows completely sold out in November 2016 but if you still want to buy a ticket then Twickets is the official secondary seller site for the four shows.

For those attending the lead booker whose name is printed on each ticket must provide photo I.D. on entrance, but this has confused some customers wanting to buy secondary tickets via Twickets.

However those who can no longer attend are able to sell their tickets on Twickets at face value or less, and the buyers are able to change the lead bookers name to their own, so you will be able to enter the stadium.

Go to www.twickets.live to buy Adele tickets.

What time does the show start?

The stadium doors open at 6pm and they have asked fans to get there no later than 6.45pm due to increased security checks.

The show itself is expected to start at 8pm , but these times are subject to change.

What will the setlist be?

adele the world tour norway

According to setlist.fm Adele performed the following set at her Australia and New Zealand shows in March so fans can expect something similar.

  • I'll Be Waiting
  • Rumour Has It
  • Water Under the Bridge

Adele Hints at World Tour for Next Album, but When?

Adele doubts she will do another album anytime soon.

The "Hello" singer has confessed she is a long way off from returning to the studio to work on a follow-up to 2021's 30 , however, the pop megastar, who suffers from anxiety performing in front of massive crowds, has promised that when she does return with a new record, she will do a world tour.

She told gig-goers at her Weekends With Adele Las Vegas residency at The Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace on Saturday (Jan. 27): “I just don’t think I’m gonna write an album for quite some time.

“But next time I do, I’ll come to wherever it is you live.”

The 35-year-old Grammy winner extended her Sin City residency and reflected on how performing and having intimate interactions with her fans has helped her "reconnect" with her music.

She posted to X last year: “I needed to reconnect with my songs and remember what they mean to me, and I have!

The "Chasing Pavements" singer, who has 11-year-old son Angelo with ex-spouse Simon Konecki, and is now with sporting agent Rich Paul, also explained why she started disappearing from the limelight for long periods before releasing a new album.

She said: “Sometimes I wonder if people think I’m calculated when I disappear for years on end and I’m elusive and I believe that less is more or something like that.

But the real reason that I’ve only had four albums and I don’t think that many people know this – they know that I have a child – my son is 11 years old. So if you do the math, that means that at the height of 21 … I fell pregnant. To many that would be, and it was, considered career suicide.

“It was there and then that I chose to reject the scarcity of success, and the idea that you have to be constantly relevant to be successful.

“And that perhaps, just maybe, I could be a hit both on and off the stage. And you’ll never guess what — I [redacted] got away with it!”

Adele Promises to Go on Tour For Her Next Album: 'I'll Come to Wherever It Is You Live'

Adele is getting fans' hopes up for a tour in the future -- although it may be some time before that happens.

During her Las Vegas residency show over the weekend, the "Easy On Me" songstress teased that she'll go on tour the next time she releases an album, so fans across the world can enjoy it.

However, she shared a fairly significant caveat in that it won't be happening anytime soon -- the new album or the accompanying tour.

"I just don't think I'm going to write an album for quite some time," Adele, 35, told concertgoers at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace on Saturday. "But next time I do, I'll come to where ever it is that you live."

The singer's Weekends With Adele residency is set to come to an end in June, and the singer seemed somewhat wistful at the thought of wrapping up her shows.

"I'm gonna miss this so much," she told the audience. "I really, really, really do love this show."

Back in October, Adele got candid in an Instagram post  about how much the residency has moved her to the point she's fallen back in love with performing live.

"This residency, these shows have changed my life. I desperately needed to fall back in love with performing live again, and I have," the songstress said in a lengthy caption to a video montage showing highlights of her residency. "I needed to reconnect with my songs and remember what they mean to me, and I have! Being on stage over the last year so up close and personal with an audience again after all these years has been a truly extraordinary restorative experience that I’ll never forget."

Adele went on to recall all the "hilarious, soulful and heartbreaking interactions" she's banked in her mind "for life."

"The looks on your faces, seeing you laugh and cry together singing your hearts out and hoarding bags of confetti. All the simi dolls, friendship bracelets, flowers, facetime calls and flags. It’s crazy how joyful a show full of sad songs can be!!" she continued.

Adele concluded that the residency made her realize how much she enjoys being on stage and that it's where she belongs.

Adele's most recent album, 30 , dropped in November 2021. Her Weekends With Adele residency kicked off on November 2022 and is set to conclude on June 15.

What is niche tourism and why is it so popular?

Niche tourism is a term that I hear a lot these days. But what is niche tourism? Well, the truth is that it isn’t any one tourism type, rather it is a collective term used to group a number of types of tourism. It is an umbrella term .

Confused? Don’t be! It’s actually very simple, and in this article I will explain why….

What does the term ‘niche’ mean?

What is niche tourism, macro and micro niche tourism, niche tourism definitions, why has niche tourism become popular, advantages of niche tourism, disadvantages of niche tourism, examples of niche tourism, further reading.

Before we can understand what niche tourism is, we first need to understand what is meant by the word ‘niche’.

Niche (pronounced NEE-SH in the UK and NITCH in the US), refers to an area or position that is suitable for a small group of people.

As an adjective, niche can refer to a number of things, including:

In the context of tourism, niche is referring to products, services or interests that are shared by a small group of people.

Niche tourism is the umbrella term covering a range of types of tourism . Niche tourism products and services serve a specialised segment of the tourism industry.

Niche tourism is the antithesis of mass tourism . It is the opposite of large group tours, all-inclusive holiday resorts and overtourism .

Other terms that identify similar, small market segments include alternative tourism and special interest tourism .

Essentially, niche tourism identifies forms of micro (small) tourism.

As demonstrated in the diagram below, niche tourism itself can be categorised as a macro (i.e. big) type of tourism. Within this, a number of smaller tourism types can be identified. These are micro forms of tourism.

The list of micro tourism forms listed here is not exhaustive. For a more comprehensive list, take a look at my article on the different types of tourism .

niche tourism

The term niche tourism hasn’t been around that long. In fact, before the 1990s niche was most commonly used to describe marketing (Robinson & Novelli, 2005).

Definitions have evolved from the concept of niche marketing, so I think that it is useful to look first at how the term niche marketing is defined.

According to Toften and Hammervoll (2009), niche marketing can be understood as a focus on a limited market, which is generally considered to be appropriate for small or specialised businesses.

Stanton, Etzel, and Walker (1991) define niche marketing as ‘a method that meets customer needs by developing products and services especially suited to small markets’.

And Kotler (2003) describes niche marketing as a focus on clients who demonstrate a specific set of needs, available to pay a higher price to companies best suited to supply their demand for goods and services.

The most comprehensive text on the niche tourism phenomena was published in 2007 by Robinson and Novelli (2007). This book introduced us to the concept, outlining the notions of macro and micro tourism that I outlined earlier. In their book Robinson and Novelli outline a variety of different examples of niche tourism. Whilst, more than twenty years have passed since this publication, it still remains largely valid and useful, although there are now a wider range of tourism forms than there were at the time of writing.

More recently, in 2005, Novelli described niche tourists as independent travellers choose specialised activities to engage with social life and to become cosmopolitans.

Taking all of this into consideration, niche tourism can be defined as ‘an umbrella tourism form, which identifies macro and micro tourism segments appealing to a specific group of travellers’.

Niche tourism has grown in popularity a lot in recent years.

This growth is owed to the way that we have changed as consumers. People have become more sophisticated in their wants and needs. We know what we want and that’s what we want. The ‘one size fits all’ traditional package tourism model no longer suits.

Around the globe people have become more globalised and more educated. We want more than a nice pool and some evening cocktails from our holidays.

People want education and culture and adventure. And we can access these things through niche tourism provision….

I would love to share some figures with you to demonstrate this, but studies tend to focus on the macro or micro tourism forms, as opposed to niche tourism as a group. But hopefully you’ll take my word on that one!

yellow mountains Huangshan

Niche tourism is often viewed as being a more positive form of tourism than mass tourism. This is because it generally involves smaller numbers of tourists who (usually) leave less of a footprint. In fact, it is often associated by sustainable tourism and responsible tourism (rightly or wrongly).

Some of the advantages of niche tourism are:

  • It is less damaging on the environment
  • Tourists come in smaller numbers
  • Tourists tend to be more courteous and respectful
  • Niche tourists often pay more than mass tourists
  • There is a genuine interest in the local area and people

Of course, these advantages are not a given. It is impossible to generalise such a broad group of tourism types!

woman in white tank top doing yoga exercise

There are also disadvantages of niche tourism. The main issue is the small size of businesses and an inherent over reliance on tourism.

Some of the main problems commonly noted are:

  • A lack of alternative revenue streams
  • Too many visitors are attracted
  • Niche businesses take business away from elsewhere
  • Some niches are not environmentally friendly, such as golf tourism.
  • Small visitor numbers means that the economic benefits are limited
  • Niche tourism activities can come in and out of ‘fashion’ and popularity

Ultimately, it is careful tourism planning and sustainable tourism management that will reduce any negative impacts of tourism. Therefore, it is actually a misconception that niche tourism is better than mass tourism. This statement is unfounded and is totally depends on the type of tourism that is in question.

Niche Tourism: Exploring Unique and Specialized Travel Experiences

Niche tourism is a growing trend in the travel industry, catering to specialized segments of the market. It is the antithesis of mass tourism, focusing on the needs and interests of a smaller group of travellers rather than targeting mainstream attractions and amenities. As the global middle class expands and becomes better educated, especially in developing and densely populated regions, the demand for niche tourism experiences has increased.

This type of tourism can be characterized more by the activities and experiences sought by the tourists than by their numbers in a particular destination. Examples of niche tourism include eco-tourism, culinary tourism, adventure travel, and wellness retreats. These specialized experiences allow travellers to delve deeper into a region’s culture, natural environment, or unique attractions while benefiting local communities and economies more sustainably.

The rise of niche tourism has also spurred innovation and adaptations within the industry. As a result, destinations, tour operators , and travel service providers need to rethink their approach to cater to these discerning travellers’ specific needs and interests, ensuring that their offerings resonate with the niche market and enhance their customers’ overall travel experiences.

Table of Contents

What is niche tourism.

Niche Tourism

Niche tourism refers to specialized travel experiences catering to specific interests, activities, or demographic groups . Unlike mass tourism, which targets a broad audience with generalized interests such as sightseeing, beach vacations, or cultural exploration, niche tourism focuses on delivering highly personalized experiences that meet the particular needs or desires of a smaller segment of travellers.

Whether it’s adventure tourism for thrill-seekers, ecotourism for environmentally conscious individuals, or medical tourism for those seeking affordable healthcare options abroad, niche tourism aims to offer something unique that appeals to a specific type of traveller. It often provides more in-depth, specialized, and meaningful experiences, as it takes into account the specific preferences and expectations of its target audience.

Types of Niche Tourism

Types of Niche Tourism

Indeed, niche tourism focuses on specialized and personalized travel experiences that cater to specific interests, hobbies, or needs. The following are the various types of niche tourism:

Adventure Tourism

Adventure tourism is focused on travellers seeking an adrenaline rush. This can include activities like skydiving, paragliding, scuba diving, or mountaineering. The key here is the thrill and the experience of something challenging. The destinations are often exotic or difficult to get to, and there might be a focus on natural landscapes.

Ecotourism aims to be as non-intrusive and beneficial as possible for the environment and local communities. This type of tourism might involve trips to natural reserves, rainforests, or other important ecological sites. It often includes educational components to inform travellers about the environment, local communities, and ways to protect natural resources.

Culinary Tourism

Culinary tourism revolves around food and drink experiences. This could range from high-end dining in major cities to foraging expeditions in the countryside. Food festivals, cooking classes, visits to farms, or exploring local markets could also be part of the package. Wine, beer, and spirits tasting tours are also popular.

Wellness Tourism

Wellness tourism focuses on mental and physical well-being. This could involve travel to spas, holistic health centres, or places known for natural beauty and tranquillity. Activities may include yoga retreats, detox programs, or spiritual teachings.

Dark Tourism

Dark tourism involves travel to places historically associated with tragedy, death, or disaster. Examples include concentration camps, battlefields, memorials, and sites of natural or industrial disasters. The aim is often educational and memorial rather than voyeuristic, although this can be a matter of debate and ethical consideration.

Medical Tourism

Medical tourism travels abroad to receive medical, dental, or surgical care. The reasons can vary but generally involve cost efficiency, quality of care, or availability of specialized treatments. Countries like Thailand, India, and Mexico often attract medical tourists due to the cost-effectiveness and quality of medical services.

Cultural or Heritage Tourism

This type of tourism is aimed at experiencing the culture and history of a destination. This can involve anything from visiting museums and historical sites to attending local festivals and ceremonies. Some tourists may even seek out locations that explore their ancestry.

Wildlife Tourism

Focused on wildlife and its natural habitats, this can range from safaris in Africa to bird-watching in South America. Ethical considerations are essential to ensure that wildlife and their habitats are respected and preserved.

Sport Tourism

Sports tourism encompasses a variety of activities, including participating in a sports camp, attending a major sporting event like the Olympics or World Cup, or simply touring a famous stadium. Golf tourism is a subset that deserves mention, as many travellers organize trips centred around playing at renowned golf courses.

Religious Tourism

Religious tourism involves visits to sacred sites for pilgrimage, missionary, or leisure purposes. Mecca, Vatican City, and the Ganges River are destinations that draw massive numbers of religious tourists each year.

LGBTQ Tourism

LGBTQ tourism caters to the needs and interests of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer/questioning community. This can range from gay-friendly hotels and beaches to events like Pride parades and LGBTQ film festivals.

Educational Tourism

Educational tourism focuses on learning experiences. This could involve studying a language abroad, participating in an archaeological dig, or taking a master’s class in photography while visiting iconic sites.

Film or TV Tourism

Some destinations attract visitors solely based on their appearance in movies or TV shows. For example, New Zealand has seen a tourism boom due to its portrayal as Middle-earth in the “Lord of the Rings” series, and fans of Korean dramas often visit filming locations in South Korea.

Wine Tourism

Wine tourism involves visiting vineyards and wineries to taste and purchase products directly from the source. It often includes guided tours explaining the wine-making process.

Activity-Based Tourism

Activity-based tourism is tailored around specific activities the tourist is interested in, such as scuba diving, fishing, or skiing.

Space Tourism

A very new and emerging type, space tourism aims to offer commercial trips outside of Earth. This is still mainly in the experimental stage but is becoming increasingly feasible.

Agri-Tourism

Agri-tourism involves participating in farm-based activities and gaining a closer look at the rural lifestyle. This can include activities like milking cows, picking fruits, and tractor rides.

Each niche tourism type has unique appeal, challenges, and ethical considerations. Understanding these can help travellers and providers create a more enriching and responsible experience.

Advantages of Niche Tourism

Niche tourism serves specialized segments within the tourism industry, catering to specific interests, demographics, or travel styles. There are several advantages that make niche tourism increasingly popular among travellers.

Firstly, niche tourism allows for a deeper, more authentic experience for travellers . Visitors can engage in activities and explore destinations that align with their passions or hobbies, such as culinary experiences, eco-tourism, or adventure sports. This personal connection can lead to a more satisfying and memorable travel experience.

Secondly, niche tourism benefits local communities by providing sustainable economic opportunities. Specialized markets often rely on small businesses and skilled artisans, which can spur job creation and economic growth.

Additionally, niche tourism helps to preserve local cultures and traditions as visitors seek to experience the authentic life and customs of the places they visit. This, in turn, encourages communities to maintain and promote their unique offerings.

Moreover, niche tourism can contribute to developing and promoting less explored destinations. By focusing on specific experiences and attractions, these destinations can differentiate their offerings from more mainstream tourist hotspots. This can lead to increased tourism revenue and economic development for lesser-known regions.

Niche tourism can also demonstrate a commitment to environmental and social responsibility. For example, eco-tourism and volunteer travel promote sustainable practices, such as resource conservation, wildlife protection, and community development initiatives. These tourism segments attract responsible, conscious travellers, reflect positively on the destinations they visit.

In summary, niche tourism offers significant advantages for travellers, local communities, and destinations. By catering to specialized markets, niche tourism enhances the overall travel experience, bolsters economies, encourages cultural preservation, fosters sustainable practices, and helps to promote lesser-known regions.

Disadvantages of Niche Tourism

Niche tourism, despite its advantages, does have certain drawbacks as well. One of the primary disadvantages of niche tourism is the  lack of economies of scale . This means that an operation with a lower production volume may face higher unit costs. Niche tourism activities tend to cater to smaller groups of tourists, leading to limited capacity for revenue generation.

Another challenge faced in niche tourism is the  lack of alternative revenue streams . Since these specialized tourism services cater to specific needs and interests, they may not easily adapt to market changes or diversify their offerings. This inflexibility can make niche tourism operations more vulnerable to economic fluctuations and industry trends.

Niche tourism can also lead to  over-reliance on a specific target market . Businesses focusing solely on niche markets may struggle to attract other types of tourists outside their specialization. This dependence on a limited market segment increases the risk of reduced revenues if the niche market experiences a downturn.

Additionally, because niche tourism focuses on specialized activities and experiences, there may be  limited access to resources, infrastructure, and expertise . This can make it challenging for niche tourism operators to maintain high levels of quality and safety, fulfil regulatory requirements, or stay up-to-date with advancements in technology and industry best practices.

Lastly, niche tourism can sometimes be at odds with  environmental sustainability . While many niche tourism products promote sustainable practices and experiences, some can have negative impacts on fragile ecosystems and local communities. For instance, certain adventure tourism activities may contribute to the degradation of natural environments by encouraging tourists to visit remote and pristine locations that may not be equipped to handle an influx of visitors.

In summary, disadvantages of niche tourism may include higher unit costs, lack of alternative revenue streams, over-reliance on a specific market, limited resources and expertise, and potential environmental impacts. While these challenges can make niche tourism less attractive for some businesses, it is essential to acknowledge these potential issues when pursuing specialized tourism operations.

Characteristics of Niche Tourism

Characteristics of Niche Tourism

Niche tourism is a fascinating facet of the travel industry, addressing individual tourists’ specific interests and needs rather than a generalized mass market. The defining characteristics of niche tourism include:

  • Specialized Focus : Niche tourism concentrates on specific areas of interest or activities, whether wine tasting, bird watching, yoga retreats, or historical battlefield tours.
  • Tailored Experiences : Unlike the one-size-fits-all approach of mass tourism, niche tourism is about providing tailored experiences that cater to its target audience’s specific desires and needs.
  • Smaller Scale : Generally, niche tourism attracts fewer numbers compared to mass tourism. However, the emphasis is on depth and quality of experience rather than volume.
  • Engaged Audience : Tourists drawn to niche activities are usually highly engaged and passionate about their chosen area of interest. They are often willing to invest time, effort, and money into gaining a deeper understanding or more enriching experience.
  • Sustainable and Responsible Practices : Many niche tourism sectors prioritize sustainability and responsibility, particularly eco-tourism, agri-tourism, or community-based tourism. They often strive for a balance that benefits the local environment, economy, and society.
  • Higher Per-capita Spending : Since niche tourism offers specialized experiences, travellers are often willing to pay a premium. This can lead to higher per-capita spending compared to traditional mass tourism.
  • Deep Interaction : Niche tourism often promotes a deeper interaction between the traveller and the destination. For instance, cultural tourism might involve staying with local families, attending traditional ceremonies, or learning a local craft.
  • Authenticity : One of the draws of niche tourism is the pursuit of authentic experiences. Travelers seek genuine interactions and experiences that are true to the locale, culture, or activity.
  • Dynamic and Evolving : As societal interests change and evolve, so do the niches within tourism. For instance, wellness tourism has surged with the growing global focus on health and well-being.
  • Less Seasonal Dependence : While mass tourism might concentrate on peak seasons (like summer vacations or winter holidays), niche tourism can often transcend seasonality. For example, bird-watching might attract tourists during migration seasons, while wellness retreats can be year-round attractions.

Niche tourism is characterized by its focus on specialization, depth of experience, and often a commitment to sustainability and authenticity. It offers unique opportunities for destinations to diversify their tourist offerings and for travellers to pursue their passions in depth.

Why is Niche Tourism Growing?

Niche tourism is experiencing significant growth due to a variety of interconnected factors. One key driver is the modern traveller’s increasing desire for personalized, tailored experiences that align with specific interests- adventure, culture, or wellness. Gone are the days when one-size-fits-all vacation packages appealed to the masses. Today, travellers seek unique, specialized experiences that cater to their tastes and preferences.

The rise of the internet and social media platforms has also played a crucial role in niche tourism’s growth. These platforms have democratized information, making it easier for travellers to discover and access specialized experiences. For niche tourism operators, digital platforms offer a cost-effective way to market unique offerings to a global audience, enlarging their customer base.

The quest for authenticity is another contributing factor. Today’s travellers are increasingly seeking “real,” meaningful experiences that allow for a deeper engagement with a destination’s culture, history, or natural environment. Niche tourism typically offers these kinds of in-depth, authentic experiences, whether participating in a traditional tea ceremony in Japan or trekking through a rainforest in Costa Rica.

Sustainability concerns have also given niche tourism a significant boost. With a growing global awareness of environmental issues, many travellers are seeking sustainable forms of tourism . Types of niche tourism like ecotourism, which focuses on environmental conservation and responsible travel, have seen a surge in popularity as a result.

Changes in demographics and lifestyle are also playing a role. As populations in many parts of the world age, and as people become more health-conscious, sectors like wellness and medical tourism are booming. Moreover, the economic benefits of niche tourism make it attractive for destinations. Specialized tourism often attracts a type of traveller willing to spend more on specialized experiences, helping to diversify a destination’s tourist income and making it less dependent on mass tourism.

Word-of-mouth recommendations and social media sharing of unique and specialized experiences effectively serve as free marketing for niche tourism. These shared experiences inspire and encourage more people to opt for specialized, off-the-beaten-path experiences.

The growth in niche tourism can be attributed to a combination of technological, social, and economic factors that have converged to make specialized travel more desirable and accessible.

The Impacts of Niche Tourism

Niche tourism can positively and negatively impact local communities, economies, and environments. Understanding these effects is crucial for sustainable development and responsible travel. Here’s a look at both sides of the coin:

Positive Impacts

  • Economic Diversification : Unlike mass tourism, niche tourism allows destinations to diversify their sources of income. Tourists with specialized interests are often willing to spend more for specific experiences.
  • Community Engagement : Like cultural and rural tourism , Niche tourism often involves deeper interaction with local communities, fostering mutual respect and cultural exchange.
  • Conservation and Awareness : Ecotourism and wildlife tourism often funnel funds directly into conservation efforts, and they can also heighten awareness of environmental issues among travellers.
  • Educational Value : Many niche tourism sectors have a strong educational component. Whether learning about a unique culture, ecosystem, or historical period, the educational aspect can enrich the traveller’s experience and broaden their horizons.
  • Job Creation : Specialized types of tourism can lead to the creation of specialized jobs, potentially offering higher wages and skill development for local communities.
  • Psychological Benefits : Wellness and medical tourism can provide direct psychological and health benefits to participants, offering therapies, treatments, or experiences that may not be available in their home country.

Negative Impacts

  • Environmental Stress : Even ecotourism, if not managed properly, can put undue stress on local ecosystems. The influx of tourists can disturb wildlife, lead to pollution, and degrade natural habitats.
  • Cultural Commodification : Specialized interest in local cultures can sometimes lead to the commodification of traditions and practices, where elements of culture are altered or staged for tourist consumption.
  • Economic Dependence : Over-reliance on a particular form of niche tourism can make a destination vulnerable to economic fluctuations in that market.
  • Accessibility Issues : Because niche tourism often caters to more affluent travellers willing to pay for specialized experiences, it could exclude less affluent local people from certain activities or areas.
  • Resource Strain : Niche tourists often seek untouched or less-explored destinations, which might not have the infrastructure to support increased tourist activity. This can lead to resource strains on small communities.
  • Exclusivity : Some types of niche tourism can inadvertently create an atmosphere of exclusivity, alienating local populations who may not be part of the target demographic (e.g., LGBTQ tourism, luxury tourism).

Understanding these impacts can help in the development of policies and strategies to maximize the benefits and minimize the downsides of niche tourism. This makes it crucial for stakeholders, from government bodies to tour operators , to engage in responsible planning and management.

Niche Tourism vs. Mass Tourism

Niche Tourism vs. Mass Tourism

Niche and mass tourism are two distinct approaches to travel and tourism, each with unique characteristics, benefits, and challenges. Here’s a breakdown comparing the two:

Niche Tourism:

Definition : Niche tourism focuses on specialized and targeted travel experiences that cater to specific interests, activities, or demographic groups.

Characteristics :

  • Tailored Experiences : Offers specialized experiences for a select group of travellers with particular interests, such as ecotourism, medical tourism , or culinary tourism.
  • Smaller Scale : Typically attracts fewer numbers than mass tourism, aiming for depth of experience over volume.
  • Higher Per-capita Spending : Travelers are often willing to spend more for personalized experiences.
  • Sustainable Practices : Many niche tourism sectors emphasize sustainable and responsible practices, especially ecotourism or community-based tourism.
  • Economic Diversification : Allows regions to diversify their tourism revenue sources.
  • Less Environmental Impact : With fewer visitors, there’s generally less strain on resources and infrastructure.
  • Cultural Exchange : Promotes deeper interaction and understanding between tourists and local communities.

Challenges :

  • Dependence : Over-reliance on a single niche market can be risky.
  • Management : Requires specific strategies and policies to ensure authentic and sustainable experiences.

Mass Tourism:

Definition : Mass tourism caters to large numbers of tourists who typically visit popular destinations and attractions.

  • Broad Appeal : Focuses on universally appealing destinations or attractions, like famous landmarks, beach resorts, or popular cities.
  • High Volume : Attracts a large number of visitors, especially during peak seasons.
  • Standardized Offerings : Packages and experiences are often standardized to cater to the majority.
  • Economic Boost : This can provide significant cash injection into a region due to the sheer number of visitors.
  • Job Creation : Creates numerous jobs in the service, transportation, and hospitality sectors.
  • Environmental Strain : The large influx can strain local resources, lead to pollution, and degrade natural and cultural sites.
  • Overcrowding : Popular destinations can become over-touristed, diminishing the experience for visitors and locals.
  • Economic Dependence : If a destination relies too heavily on mass tourism , it can become vulnerable to economic fluctuations.

Key Differences:

  • Scale and Focus : Niche tourism is about depth and specificity, while mass tourism is about volume and breadth.
  • Impact on Destination : Niche tourism often has a smaller footprint and may invest more in sustainable practices, while mass tourism can bring economic benefits but also significant strains on a destination.
  • Target Audience : Niche tourism targets specific segments or interest groups, while mass tourism aims for the broadest appeal.
  • Economic Model : Niche tourism often results in higher per-capita spending but on a smaller scale, while mass tourism focuses on high volumes, often with lower per-capita spending.

In conclusion, while both forms of tourism have their merits and challenges, the choice between them often hinges on travellers’ individual preferences, as well as the goals and resources of the destination.

Niche tourism offers more personalized, focused experiences at the cost of potential exclusivity and specialized demands, while mass tourism generates significant revenue and accessibility but may lead to cultural and environmental degradation. Both forms have their merits and drawbacks, and destinations often aim for a balanced portfolio that includes both types.

The Benefits of Translation for Your Niche Travel Business

Until the COVID-19 pandemic redefined all our borders, the leisure industry was becoming increasingly globalized, with tourism an ever-expanding sector. Niche tourism, including responsible trips and adventure travel, was an especially booming part of the travel sector until 2020 put a damper on its growth.

niche tourism traduccion

The Center for Responsible Travel (CREST) produced a report in 2019 pulling together relevant statistics, including a survey conducted by Exodus Travels of 1000 Americans who travel internationally. Of the travelers surveyed 91% stated they felt it was important to take ethical trips, and 78% said they were more ethically conscious than a year before.

It is also anticipated that the adventure travel market will expand significantly by 2026, with one market research report showing an anticipated doubling of activity between 2019 and 2026, particularly among 30-41 year olds. Once travel restrictions are lifted and flights return to something like pre-pandemic levels, niche travel providers should benefit from an influx of globetrotters making up for lost time.

More and more, small travel companies are appealing to international markets, acting as hubs for adventure and discovery, rather than being merely single destination or point-of-origin providers. Working in this way, companies source customers from a range of locations, matching them to travel experiences in a variety of destinations.

To make this work as a model, providers benefit significantly from their websites and print copy being available in translation. Trust is vital to the travel industry, given the uncertainties we all face when travelling. Concerns about cancellations, political upheaval, disease, transport challenges and security risks can all be alleviated if the customer truly trusts the provider. Trust is significantly increased when communication is error-free and direct, and in your own language!

niche tourism traduccion

A survey of over 2430 web consumers published by the Harvard Business Review showed that 72.4% of shoppers were more likely to buy a product if the site contained information in their native language. The survey was conducted in 2012 and did not specifically relate to travel but given how much trust an adventurous holidaymaker places in their provider of choice, the benefits of adding full translation to your offering are clear.

In an increasingly connected world, consumers value directness, clarity, and ease of access, three qualities that you can maximize by talking to your customers in their first language. In 2021 and beyond, going multilingual could be the most cost-effective way to widen the net and pull in frustrated would-be travelers desperate to book a much-needed getaway.

Niche Moscow: Communal Living Tour

niche tourism traduccion

Niche Moscow is a project that offers unusual tours around Moscow. Each of the tours has a theme – ranging from communal living to contemporary art – and is designed through collaboration with academics and insiders.

We heart Moscow has been invited to one of these tours – Revolution to Disillusion – Communal Living – to see how it works.

Bulgakov's Museum

The tour started in the courtyard of the Bulgakov’s museum – one of the best places to illustrate the complicated Russian history. The new conception of a society resulted in changing all the way of life. The first communal flats were a result of the abolition of private property and the requirement that aristocrats share their flats with the proletariat. The Bulgakov’s Museum is a great example of how the history changed people’s fates and turned them into something completely different. The place is an unforgettable mix of an aristocratic house and a communal flat with a mystery fleur from Bulgakov’s novels.

Narkomfin

The next stop of the tour was Narkomfin house – a great monument of constructivism. The new ideology of living resulted in this extraordinary house. Entering the building, which is unfortunately in a terrible condition, you find yourself in a communal utopia. And it is really surprising that the house, built in the 30ies of the XX century, looks very modern even now.

Konstantin Melnikov's house

Konstantin Melnikov’s house was the next sight. The project by one of the leading architects in the constructivist movement shows all the duality of communist ideas. The house with its strange form and rhombic windows looks very unusual and highly distracting from the architectural ideas of the time.

The only disappointing fact was that it was impossible to see the house from the inside. It had been closed to public for a long time and is still under reconstruction.

Dom na Naberezhnoy

The last stop of the tour was Dom na Naberezhnoy, the infamous residential complex across the river from the Kremlin. Mysterious stories and a fascinating view of the Moskva River and the Kremlin was a nice final accord of the tour.

It is worth noting that we were taken across the city in a comfort minibus. The groups are small –maximum eight people in each one. This creates a friendly atmosphere and gives an opportunity to have a discussion with each other and the guide.

In general, the tour allows having a very interesting insight of the city and understanding its present and past. Even being Muscovites we’ve got a lot of new information, visiting places, we’ve never been to before.

The next tour will take place this Saturady, October 3. Learn more about Niche Moscow and book a tour here.

Introduction

As a first step, we want to tell you one Russian joke.

In Moscow, one man takes his smartphone and says, “Ok Google, I need to go to the toilet. Where I can find it?”. A voice of the smartphone answers, “Hey man, you are in trouble.”

The toilet problem is very strong in Moscow, and foreign tourists suffer more than Russians. You have almost no chances to find public WC, and no matter are you ready to pay or not. We will give you a few advices on this page. As locals, we know everything about this problem.

Many tourists try to find WC in subway stations. If you follow this idea, you will fail and will lose your time. There are toilets in the Moscow subway, but they are available only for personnel. We do not know any precedent when they let somebody in.

Every year we have a same comedy. The Moscow government declares their new plan of creation public WCs at every station. Every year nothing change. We the Russians usually say in such situation, “a cart is still standing on its place.”

Maps of Moscow WCs

The Google Maps knows a few of WCs, but it is not a decision of the problem.

WCs in trading centres

It is also a good idea. You should remember a few features.

Not every trading centre has own WC. The Sanitary Rules of Russia demand it from every trading centre larger than 10700 square feet (1000 square meters). We also do not know how some trading centres drive a coach and four through. No comments.

The Rules say every trading centre must have a WC, but the Rules do not say how many. So, you will probably get into a situation when there is only one toilet in a large trading centre. In this case, you will need to search for it.

We made a few photos of public WC in one of trading centres in Moscow. See our small gallery below.

WCs in restaurants

There is no any law in Russia that force a restaurant to let everybody using the WC. So, if you enter a restaurant and want to use a toilet, you will need to ask for a permission. Fortunately, Russia is a civilized country, and we never saw a precedent when somebody rejected.

Even if your request is rejected, you will order a cup of coffee, became a client and use the WC. We ask our readers to respect the law and act according to the law.

How to ask about WC in Russian

It is easy. The English word “toilet” sounds very close to the Russian word “tualet”. Even if you say in English, everybody will understand you. Do not hesitate to ask; Russians are usually ready to help.

We have only one advice for this situation. You should show that you a foreigner. If you will not do this, then people will be thinking you a local and will be explaining you something in Russian. Just say something in English to show you are a foreigner, and say the word “toilet”. You will receive an answer by a finger same as it shows the photo on the left.

Of course, it was a joke above. By the way, nowadays, you can find a few monuments to Vladimir Lenin in Moscow, but we do not recommend to follow in the direction he is showing. We the Russians walked in this direction for 74 years, and we still do not understand, where we were going and why.

You can think Russia is a wild country because of this toilet problem. This opinion is wrong. If you visit any private business centre, you will see a fine WC. If you visit a flat of ordinary Russian citizen, you will also find it is clean and in order.

But, if the government is in charge of something, then you will see a long list of problems that are not resolved from year to year. This is Russia.

We write this website to make your voyage to Russia perfect. Read other articles ( look for the list of links below and on the left from the text of every article )

Eight passengers stranded on African island after Norwegian cruise ship left without them

A dream cruise vacation has turned into a nightmare for eight passengers left stranded on the African island of São Tomé and Príncipe after their ship left without them because they were late to return from a private tour.

The tourists — six from the U.S. and two from Australia — were aboard the Norwegian Dawn, a Norwegian cruise line ship , which departed from Cape Town, South Africa, on March 20 for a 21-day voyage up the coast of Africa set to end in Barcelona, Spain, on April 10.

But on Wednesday, the group of eight tourists was late to return to the ship by more than an hour for the all-aboard time of 3 p.m. from a private excursion on the island, which was not organized by the cruise line.

Jay and Jill Campbell of South Carolina were part of the group that was left behind.

They said that their tour’s operator notified the cruise captain that they were going to be late to rejoin the ship and that the local Coast Guard tried to get them on the vessel but that they weren’t allowed to board.

As a result, the couple and the rest of the group have been stranded for days on the island off Nigeria, grappling with language, currency issues and complicated travel to catch up with the ship.

“The lovely people of São Tomé were very gracious, very hospitable. They had reached out as much as they could to help us find hotels,” Jay Campbell said on NBC's "TODAY" show Tuesday morning.

“We were able to get to a tour agency there to arrange flights to the next port of call. ... Very difficult process — you’re dealing with multiple languages, language barriers, you’re dealing with different currencies ... finding someone that even has dollars ... trying to get an agent to understand where we need to get to.

"It’s one of those ‘You can’t get there from here,’" he added.

A Norwegian spokesperson called the incident a “very unfortunate situation” and said, “Guests are responsible for ensuring they return to the ship at the published time.”

The cruise line said that after the guests failed to return, their passports were delivered to local port agents, in line with protocol. The company said it was working with local authorities to understand “the requirements and visas needed for the guests to reboard the ship at the next available port of call.”

On Monday, the guests had made arrangements to rejoin the ship in Banjul, Gambia, but the ship was unable to safely dock there because of “adverse weather conditions” and “tidal restrictions,” Norwegian said. The guests were then contacted and provided with information to rejoin the ship at Dakar, Senegal, on Tuesday.

Jill Campbell said they traveled through seven countries in 48 hours to arrive in Senegal on Monday night.

But the couple was reconsidering whether they even wanted to return to the cruise.

"We are considering whether or not we are going to board the ship. It is in dock here in Senegal," she said. "We believe there was a basic duty of care that they had forgotten about, so it does concern us."

"After what we witnessed, we truly believe that although there’s a set of rules or policies that the ship may have followed, they followed those rules too rigidly. I believe that they really forgot that they are people working in the hospitality industry and really the safety and well-being of the customers should be their first priority," she added.

Ultimately, the eight passengers did rejoin the cruise before 8:30 a.m. ET Tuesday in Dakar, Senegal, Norwegian told NBC News in an e-mail Tuesday evening, after this story originally published.

Norwegian said the passengers were responsible for making their own travel arrangements to rejoin the ship.

"Despite the series of unfortunate events outside of our control, we will be reimbursing these eight guests for their travel costs from Banjur, Gambia to Dakar, Senegal," a cruise line spokesperson said in a statement. "We remain in communication with the guests and are providing additional information as it becomes available."

A silver lining of the catastrophe was that the Campbells were able to connect with another Norwegian Dawn passenger — Julia Lenkoff, 80 — who was also left on the island, but for a medical reason.

Lenkoff was on a different day tour Wednesday. She had "medically disembarked" from the cruise to seek local treatment on that day, Norwegian said.

Norwegian said that its care team tried to call Lenkoff several times and was unable to reach her and that it worked with its port agent in São Tomé and Príncipe for updates on her health.

The Campbells met Lenkoff and were able to put her in contact with her family in California, who flew her home — a move Lenkoff's daughter said "saved her life."

"She's a world traveler. She travels all the time. So this was going to be one of her bucket list trips, because she's been to 120 countries so far, and she wanted to get to 130," her daughter, Lana Lenkoff Geis, said in an interview that aired Tuesday on "TODAY."

Norwegian said Lenkoff was escorted on a flight to Lisbon, Portugal, then put in the care of airport staff members to continue her journey back to the U.S., where she has safely returned.
