Strong storm system to impact Easter weekend; First Alert issued for Sunday in Arizona
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — It was a nice and cloudy start to our morning with temperatures in the mid 50′s. Those clouds are moving in from a lingering low-pressure system that could bring us a few showers again this afternoon.
There is a better chance of showers along the rim and Southeast Arizona, which will keep temperatures cool as well with highs in the lower 70s. Our average high this time of year is 81 degrees.
If you’re looking for warmer weather, get ready for the 80s to make a return on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. A ridge of high pressure will warm things up nicely by the end of the work week.
Friday will be the warmest day of the week with a high of 87 degrees.
Over the holiday weekend, we will see another area of low-pressure move in from Southern California, bringing us another chance of rain and a drop in temperatures. So far, it looks like we will see light showers in the morning on Easter Sunday and a better chance of rain late Sunday into Monday.

Travelers spanning I-40 east will go through the states of California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, and North Carolina. Highway I-40 Weather & Road Conditions
Interstate 40 (I-40) is a major east-west Interstate Highway in the United States. In fact, it is the third-longest interstate in the country. I-40 spans eight states, including California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee and North Carolina.
Because I-40 traverses such a large area of the United States, drivers may encounter a wide range of weather conditions.

However, in the southern part of the state, near Los Angeles, the weather is generally milder.

However, in the southern part of the state, near Santa Fe, the weather is generally cooler and wetter.
Texas also has a wide range of weather conditions depending on which part of the state you are in. In the western part of the state, near El Paso, the weather is generally hot and dry. However, in the eastern part of the state, near Dallas, the weather is generally hotter and more humid.
Similarly, Oklahoma also has a wide range of weather conditions depending on which part of the state you are in. In the western part of the state, near Oklahoma City, the weather is generally hot and dry. However, in the eastern part of the state, near Tulsa, the weather is generally hotter and more humid.
I-40 road conditions in Arkansas may be less impacted by weather with a mild climate with four distinct seasons. However, thunderstorms are common in the spring and summer months.
Road Conditions in Tennessee on I-40
Road conditions on I-40 in Tennessee can be affected by variable the weather depending on which part of the state you are in. In the western part of the state, near Memphis, the weather is generally hot and humid. However, in the eastern part of the state, near Nashville, the weather is generally milder.
Lastly, North Carolina also has a wide range of weather conditions depending on which part of the state you are in. In the western part of the state, near Asheville, the weather is generally cool and humid. However, in the eastern part of the state, near Wilmington where I-40 ends, the weather is generally milder.

The reason luxury travel is so expensive these days
By monica pitrelli,cnbc • published april 1, 2024 • updated on april 1, 2024 at 6:19 pm.
The travel industry is largely back on track.
But high prices in the luxury sector, which rose in the wake of the Covid pandemic, aren't returning to normal. In fact, they're growing higher by the month.
Luxury hotel rates reached "peak levels" this year, with average daily rates up 70% compared to 2019, according to the luxury travel company Virtuoso.
"July 2024 stands out with the highest rate, marking an 85% increase compared to July 2019," a company representative told CNBC Travel.

The price for luxury train travel is also soaring, with rates for Accor's yet-to-be-opened La Dolce Vita Orient-Express climbing 75% in 16 months . The starting price for a one-night trip on the train, which is set to open in Italy in 2025, went from 2,000 euros in late 2022 to 3,500 euros ($3,776) last month.
Rates on another luxury European train, Belmond's Venice Simplon-Orient-Express , also jumped this spring, from £3,530 in February to £7,060 ($8,925) in March, according to a review of its website.
Spotify shares up on report it plans to raise prices
Amazon cuts hundreds of jobs in cloud computing unit
Belmond has not yet responded to CNBC's request for comment, but Accor told CNBC Travel that pricing and plans "are constantly evolving."
Travel prices have increased for many of the same reasons that have affected other industries: inflation, rising labor costs, supply chain issues and debt service rates.
But travelers' unflinching willingness to pay the new rates means the "old" prices for a five-star holiday may be a thing of the past.
When money is 'no object'
As inflation and rising costs abate, luxury travel prices are holding firm.
That's because at significantly higher rates, "the demand is there," said Henry Harteveldt, president of the travel market research company, Atmosphere Research Group
"Money is almost no object for some of these guests," Harteveldt told " Squawk Box Asia " Monday. "These are the wealthy and ultra-wealthy traveler, and for them 1000 euros, $1,000 or more a night, is nothing. It's like maybe $250 to most consumers."
Wealthy travelers also value new and different experiences, such as luxury train travel, he said.
"They want something exclusive ... and these companies are going to capitalize on it while they can."
Where pricing matters
For price-conscious travelers, competition will temper costs at the budget and mid-scale sectors, said Harteveldt.
"For those of us who live on planet Earth… budget airfares have been coming down because competition there is growing," he said. "Budget and midscale hotels are among the fastest growing in the hotel sector. They too introduce lower pricing as they open or expand the number of properties in those categories."
Booking early can save money on airfares, but hotel pricing works differently, he said.
"With hotels, you either book early or wait until within two weeks of your travel date," said Harteveldt. "I personally book refundable and changeable hotel rates [because] I have noticed that, in some cases, hotel rates can go down... closer to the check-in date, if demand isn't where they expected it to be."
'The luxury boom continues'
Overall, travel demand remains strong, yet surveys show some travelers are beginning to buckle under the costs.
But this isn't affecting the luxury travel sphere at the same level, said Dave Goodger, managing director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at Tourism Economics, an Oxford Economics company.
"The luxury boom continues despite the flatlining economic activity in some major developed markets," he told CNBC Travel.
The industry continues to see upward pricing pressure for luxury experiences, he said.
"This has come as some travellers have traded up for more luxury experiences," he said. "It also reflects the fact that income and wealth levels, including accumulated savings, remain healthy for higher net wealth households."

Easter road closures on I-40 and state Route 87 due to heavy snowfall
Planning to travel up north for Easter? You may have to seek alternative routes or delay your travel as some northern Arizona freeways are closed due to heavy snowfall.
At about 5:30 a.m. Sunday, the Arizona Department of Transportation posted to X , formerly known as Twitter, that the Interstate 40 was closed in both directions between Winslow (Milepost 252) and Ash Fork (Milepost 145). In the same X post, ADOT said state Route 87 southbound is closed south of Winslow.
The I-40 has since reopened for travel.
Both closures were due to snowfall and no estimated reopening time was given for state Route 87.
Weather: Can a sudden change in weather make you sick? What your nose knows about it
The National Weather Service posted to X on Saturday to let drivers know of hazardous road conditions on Sunday, possibly heading into Monday morning and where snowfall will be the heaviest. NWS said Flagstaff could see 8-12 inches of snow.
If you get caught driving in snowy conditions, here's what you need to know.
Check the weather forecast and road conditions before getting on the road
Make sure to check the weather forecast and road conditions. This will help you determine whether driving is safe or if any roads are closed due to inclement weather. You can check the Arizona Department of Transportation website or call 511 for up-to-date information on road conditions.
Use winter tires or chains
Winter tires provide better traction on snow and ice compared to regular tires. If you live in an area like Flagstaff, which experiences frequent snow, it is recommended that you get a set of winter tires. Having tire chains in case you encounter snow or ice on the road is another safe investment.
Slow down and maintain a safe following distance
Snowy roads can be slippery, making it hard to stop or turn. To stay safe, it is essential to reduce your speed and maintain a safe following distance from the vehicle in front of you. The end result will give you more time to react in case of a sudden stop or change in direction.
Avoid sudden movements and sudden braking
Sudden braking can cause your vehicle to skid or spin out of control on snow or ice. To avoid this, ADOT recommends making gradual and smooth movements when steering, accelerating and braking.
Know how to handle a skid
If your vehicle begins to skid, the most important thing to do is to remain calm and avoid making any sudden movements. To regain control, take your foot off the accelerator and steer in the direction you want the front wheels to go.
