3 Day Loch Ness & Skye

Absolutely a MUST DO! Neil, our guide, was incredible! So knowledgeable, funny, witty and had amazing insight into so much around Scotland! The bus rides between places was fun, Neil played great local music, and we always stopped in gorgeous, scenic spots. Highly recommend this tour! A perfect taste of what I want to go back to explore more in depth.

Scottish Royal Tour

The tour guide, Linda, was great as was the coach driver, Mike. The coach was very comfortable and the sites we visited were great. The tour was well organized and well executed. The meals were very good as well. The only thing making this “good” and not “excellent” is that I had to sleep on a pullout couch for three nights of the tour which much surprised me for something billed as a first class tour. So if you plan to go three to a room, be prepared for someone to be on a couch.

Guide Margerie and Driver Allister excellent. The tour occasionally strenuous; bus rides whole day. Bus quite confortable; Wi-Fi appreciated. Expected more meals included. Big Tour group - 44 Pax - a bit too many for my taste. When I inquired I was told max will be 35.....for me more acceptable. Hotel's fine except Isle of Skye: "Dunollie"- I had a claustrophobic room; no idea where to put my suitcase. After all the add. single room supplement is not little. Itinerary very interesting.

Pick this tour!!!! Seeing the highlands was a dream come true, and Branka was the most incredible and hilarious guide. She made the trip so so special with her knowledge of the area and folklore and her talent for storytelling. Even when we got delayed due to a closed road we were having a great time and all the other tour busses looked *miserable*. So do yourself a favour and go on this tour - or better yet, the 5-day one like I should have! I'll be back ? P.s Branka drop a link when you start a podcast tysm
It was such a fun and interesting tour! The tour guide was very knowledgeable and had lots of great tips to give. Super fun guy as well! The scenery and places we were taken to were great. I enjoyed every second of it.
We thoroughly enjoyed our Bonnie Scotland tour. The location was beautiful and the trip well organized. Our tour guide, Gavin, was simply the best. Loved the experience!!

Wonders of scotland, september 2023, highly recommend nordic visitor.

This is our second tour with Nordic Visitor. Agents used before the tour were always very prompt with responses to our questions. During the tour, we found the accommodation perfect, guide very informative and friendly, and the driver got used to where we needed to go without any problems. We would definitely use Nordic Visitor again!

Alan, United States

Highlights of scotland, may 2023, smooth experience.

Throughout the years we have travelled a lot, but never with a group tour. This trip was our first time and it did not disappoint. The tour guide, the bus driver, our fellow passengers, the weather, accommodation, variety of activities, and how smoothly everything went makes me question why we never toured like this before!

Kimberley, United States

Wonders of scotland, april 2023, amazing experience.

We had an amazing experience with Nordic Visitor! Our guides, Richard and Tim, were organised, knowledgeable, and very friendly! You can tell quality and customer satisfaction are very important. We will be back!

David, United States

Scottish highlands & isle of skye, september 2023, an unforgettable holiday.

It was an unforgettable holiday. They took care of everything, and we got to wonder and explore with little hassle. If you want to visit Scotland (or anywhere else Nordic Visitor has tours) they are the way to do it. Already talking about our next adventure with Nordic Visitor.

Carol, United States

Scottish highlands & isle of skye - private, may 2023, an indescribably fantastic experience.

We are two middle-aged women who had never been to the UK before. My sister-in-law always wanted to go to Scotland, so I started researching and came upon Nordic Visitor through internet searches. I checked for reviews and found the company to be highly recommended. I started corresponding with Kirsten. She was extremely kind, very helpful and was able to put my nervous mind at ease. The package she put together for us was perfect! From my first email, the airport pick up and drop off service, and the tour with Dave, it was an indescribably fantastic experience!

Kathleen, United States

Scottish highlands & isle of skye winter - private, february 2023, i can't thank nordic visitor enough.

This is our second trip in two years to Scotland with Nordic Visitor, and we are seriously thinking about another. I can't thank Chris enough for his patience and expertise when booking this trip.

Andrew, United States

Classic scotland, june 2023.

The tour package materials were top notch. Spiral bound itinerary, recommended activities, restaurant recommendations and the large-scale road map of Scotland were a nice touch. Magdalena, our Nordic Visitor representative, responded promptly to our questions. Accomodation was all great.

Bethany, United States

Classic scotland, may 2023, perfect vacation.

For our 50th wedding anniversary, we trusted Nordic Visitor to make our vacation a memorable one, and they made it beyond special. Chris, our tour planner, did everything to accommodate our needs and answered our questions quickly. It was an absolutely perfect vacation!

Carlo, United States

A scottish christmas to remember, december 2022.

We booked a 4-day Christmas Tour of Edinburgh which included hotel accommodation, a walking tour of the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle, a day tour of the Highlands and Lowlands, castles, and lochs, and also a whisky distillery tour. The hotel was in an amazing location near the Christmas Markets and popular attractions. The day tours were such a wonderful way to experience the countryside outside of Edinburgh. We also added a driving service to drive us to and from the airport and the drivers were so lovely. The care package left at the hotel consisting of maps and suggested eateries was such a delightful bonus. We loved that every aspect of our trip was planned and ready for us once we arrived which diminished any travel stress that one may experience when travelling abroad.

Barbara, United States

Best of edinburgh - loch ness & highlands, june 2023, we were in good hands.

As first-time visitors to Edinburgh, and senior citizens, our choice to use Nordic Visitor was an excellent one. The welcome package we received at the hotel was really helpful, with our tour vouchers, maps and restaurant recommendations. We would not have known what hotel to select and the one selected for us was perfect. The choice of tours offered was perfect for a 5-day visit. So glad to learn about the Royal Mile and visit the castle. The trip through the Highlands and Loch Ness was beautiful. Our travel agent, Rebecca, always quickly responded to email questions prior to departure. Thank you! Nordic Visitor made our trip easy and rewarding. We were in good hands.

Noreen, United States

Complete scotland & ireland, april 2023, highly professional service.

Nordic Visitor is a highly professional tour company. From beginning to end, we have no complaints. Our travel consultant, Chris, was very quick to answer all our questions from start to finish. Could not be more pleased.

Jana, United States

In Full: Scottish Island Tours

If you can catch at least one day of clear weather you should see the Scottish Islands – they are beautiful! Tucked away on the edge of the Scottish Highlands are the Inner Hebrides, the Outer Hebrides, the Orkney Isles and Shetland (with the latter being much harder to reach with a tour) .

Though the journey to any of the islands is more time-consuming, some Scottish Highland Tours from Edinburgh include them in their itinerary. The question is… How many days do you have to see the real and rugged Scotland?

The Isle of Skye

Explore –  Isle of Skye, Glencoe

Highlights – Eilean Donan Castle, Quiraing, The Old Man of Storr, Loch Ness

The Isle of Skye is one of the most accessible islands of Scotland as it’s connected by a large road bridge. Therefore, Skye is the most convenient and popular island for visitors who don’t have a lot of time. There is so much beauty out there that I doubt you’ll be sneaking in any road trip naps along the way!

Isle of Skye & West Highlands

Explore –  Glencoe, Isle of Skye, Mallaig

Highlights – Glenfinnan Viaduct , Eilean Donan Castle, Ben Nevis, Old Man of Storr, Neist Point

Explore Scotland’s west coast on your way to the most popular island, the Isle of Skye. One night will be spent at accommodation in the shadow of Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis. Whilst the other will be in Kyle of Lochalsh or Kyleakin.

Intro to the Inner Hebrides

Explore –   Loch Lomond National Park, Oban, Mull & Iona , Glencoe, Isle of Skye, Plockton

The Best Scottish Highland Tours from Edinburgh (Including Skye) 15

Highlights –   Bowmore Distillery, Staffa , Fingal’s Cave , Eilean Donan Castle, Skara Brae

Perhaps you’d prefer to learn about whisky on Islay, as opposed to experiencing the remote wilderness of the Outer Hebrides recommended in the following 14 day tour? This is still a mega tour of Scotland, but with a slightly different itinerary.

Island Hopping Adventure

Explore – North Coast 500 , Isle of Mull & Iona , Lewis & Harris , Orkney Isles, Glencoe, Isle of Skye, Oban, Ullapool , Inverness

Highlights – Loch N ess , Fingal’s Cave, Eilean Donan Castle, Loch Lomond, Callanish Standing Stones, Luskentyre

Whether you prefer a private, small group, or social coach, there are various options to choose from.

Best Edinburgh Day Tours

Loch ness, glencoe & the scottish highlands tour.

With over 7000 reviews, this 1-day Highlands bus tour is ideal for people visiting Scotland for the first time or for locals who want to learn more about their home country!

The tour leaves Edinburgh for Stirling in the northwest, where you’ll see Stirling Castle from the bus window; this is where Mary Queen of Scots was crowned before the first refreshments stop at Kilmahog near Callander.

Here, you might just see a seasonal Highland coo!

Back on the bus, the tour drives through Rannoch Moor and the Black Mount to Glencoe while the driver regales the story of the 1692 Clan MacDonald massacre.

A lunch stop is offered at Fort William on the shores of Loch Linnhe; then it’s on to Urquhart Castle by Loch Ness, which guests can choose to tour for an additional fee.

The tour then regroups and heads towards a comfort stop at the Clansman Hotel, where visitors can choose between exploring the Old Coffin Road walk, doing a one-hour round trip cruise (additional fee), participating in a gin-tasting session (additional fee), or relaxing at the hotel before the drive back to Edinburgh but not without a stop at Pitlochry in pretty Perthshire.

The air-conditioned bus seats 16-53 people, and the price includes narration from an expert Scotland guide.

There are over 7000 reviews on GetYourGuide, with statements such as “lots of jokes and stories”, “knowledgeable in all of Scotland’s history”, and “definitely worth the money”.

Note: This will impact all of the Highland tours from Edinburgh in our guide, but the more rural you travel, the fewer options are available for hospitality during winter. It may be worth packing a lunch, giving you more time for sightseeing!

Also, wear layers to ensure maximum comfort on and off the coach.

  • Duration: 12.5 hours
  • Travel: Large bus, 16-53 people

Reserve your spot here .

Rannoch Moor Scotland West Highland Way

Loch Ness, Glencoe, Highlands & Ben Nevis

Another option for tours to Loch Ness from Edinburgh, which allows you to see all of the Scottish sights that most newcomers dream of, are featured during this coach trip .

Embark from Edinburgh’s Old Town and drive by Stirling Castle on the way to Callander, aka The Gateway to the Highlands, then through Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park.

Then, the guided bus tour takes the winding roads to majestic Glencoe, stopping for a photo opportunity of the famous Three Sisters hills, two of which are classified as Munros.

The tour continues through Fort William, passing by Ben Nevis, the highest mountain of the British Isles.

Lunch is enjoyed in the quaint canal town of St. Augustus, where visitors can take a boat tour of Loch Ness or relax by the Caledonian Canal.

The final leg takes in Commando Memorial at Spean Bridge, Cairngorms National Park, Loch Laggan, Grampian Mountains, and the Pass of Drumochter before a comfort stop at Pitlochry in Perthshire.

The air-conditioned bus seats 6-57 people, and the price includes live onboard commentary.

There are over 4000 reviews on GetYourGuide, with statements such as “humorous and so informative,” “totally worth it,” and “storytelling was incredible.”

  • Travel: Bus, 16-57 people

Alternatively, please read our guide on how to get to Loch Ness by car, train, and bus.

Three Sisters hill and mountain scene of Glencoe Scotland Highlands

Glenfinnan, Fort William, & Glencoe Day Tour

Depart Edinburgh to visit the viaduct made famous by the Harry Potter movies during this Highlands tour !

The first comfort stop during the 12-hour journey is in Callander, then on to the dramatic landscape of Glencoe, which has been the backdrop of popular movies such as James Bonds’ Skyfall.

The next route hugs the banks of Loch Linnhe on the way to Fort William for a lunch break, fuelling up for the star of the show: the Glenfinnan Viaduct.

It’s surreal to think that this Victorian viaduct was built in 1897, and today, it is one of the most visited locations in the Scottish Highlands as this is where the Jacobite steam train that resembles Hogwarts Express passes four times a day to thousands of camera phone clicks and captures.

Glenfinnan is also home to the Black Lake, or Great Lake, that Hogwarts Castle overlooks, it is called Loch Shiel in real life.

This is where the boat rises from the water for the 700-year-old competition, the Triwizard Tournament in the Goblet of Fire.

Another landmark is the Glenfinnan Monument, a tribute to those who died in the 1745 Jacobite uprising, built in 1815.

The bus trip back to Edinburgh is broken up with a stop in Pitlochry.

There are over 2000 reviews on GetYourGuide, with statements such as “the views even from the coach are stunning”, “full of information”, and “informative and entertaining”.

  • Duration: 12 hours
  • Travel: Bus, 16 – 53 people

Reserve your spot at GetYourGuide or Viator .

A moody Loch Shiel, Glenfinnan Scotland

Loch Lomond, Stirling Castle & Kelpies Tour

This tour is a little shorter at nine hours and, like the above options, includes Loch Lomond and Stirling; however, it does not travel as far as Glencoe, Loch Ness, and Fort William.

A bonus with this shorter trip is that it visits the enchanting 100ft Kelpies located at The Helix; you honestly have to see them with your own eyes to appreciate how outstanding the craft by Scottish sculptor Andy Scott is.

The next stop is the largest loch in Scotland, Loch Lomond, where visitors can pay for an additional cruise before driving through the Highlands in Miniature, Trossachs National Park and a lunch stop.

The final leg is Callander driving by Doune Castle, an Outlander filming location, and a tour of Stirling Castle to learn about William Wallace, Robert the Bruce and Mary Queen of Scots.

The tour ends back in Edinburgh.

There are over 1000 reviews, such as “we saw a lot in one day” and “never a boring/dull moment”.

  • Duration: 9 hours

Stirling Castle, Loch Lomond & Whisky Tour from Edinburgh

Add a splash of scotch to your Edinburgh day tour with this 10-hour trip to a distillery.

The bus excursion leaves Edinburgh for Scotland’s biggest city, Glasgow, to visit the modern Clydeside Distillery, where guests can participate in a tour and tasting session for an additional fee.

Lunch can be bought at the next stop, Loch Lomond (Aberfoyle or Balmaha), with ample time to explore the shores before the final tourist attraction, Stirling Castle (additional fee).

There are hundreds of reviews, such as “an experience of a lifetime” and “a solid 5/5”.

Outlander Adventure Day Tour with Entry

Calling all Claire and Jamie fans, this 1-day Outlander tour visits five filming locations and several historic landmarks, too.

The first stop is Jamie’s home, Lallybroch, which is Midhope Castle in real life, and then it’s on to the striking Blackness Castle, aka Jack Randall’s headquarters.

Mary Queen of Scots’ birthplace, Linlithgow Palace or Wentworth Prison in Outlander land, is up next.

The palace was also used as a canvas in the Netflix TV show Outlaw King.

In the afternoon, the bus travels to Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument, then Outlander’s Castle Leoch, which is called Doune Castle.

Here, you can listen to an audio guide that features a chapter spoken by the one and only Sam Heughan.

The final stop before returning to the city is Culross, Cranesmuir, the Fife village used for Claire’s herb garden (Culross Palace) and its historic streets.

Culross is also a filming location in Captain America: First Avenger.

There are hundreds of reviews such as “great stories along the way” and “highly recommend the tour”.

Hogwarts Express and History Tour

You don’t have to travel to London’s Platform 9¾ to experience the Hogwarts Express as a Jacobite train chugs over Glenfinnan Viaduct in Scotland, which you can witness during this Hogwarts Express tour .

The tour leaves Edinburgh for scenic Glencoe, then on to Fort William, passing Harry Potter filming locations such as Rannoch Moor, where the Death Eaters soar through the sky and abruptly board the train in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I.

During this trip, you will also learn more about Scottish history and the landmarks along the rugged road.

Alight the Hogwarts Express at Fort William and steam over the Victorian-era Glenfinnan Viaduct, which departs in Mallaig, where you can enjoy lunch.

Note: We have personally done this train ride, and the train itself, although beautifully historic, is not a replica of the Hogwarts Express, which disappoints some visitors.

After dining, the tour bus transfers you from Mallaig to the Glenfinnan Visitor Center so that you can watch the train thunder over the viaduct you just crossed.

There are hundreds of reviews such as “absolutely brilliant day” and “great guide and very knowledgeable”.

However, some reviews state that the Glenfinnan Visitor Center car park was fully occupied; therefore, they did not get to experience watching the train on the viaduct.

  • Duration: 13 hours

St Andrews Tour From Edinburgh

We may be biased as we hail from The Kingdom of Fife , but we would love for visitors to consider this 1-day tour to see “it’s always sunny in Fife!”.

Leaving the city, the bus travels over the iconic Forth Bridge, which connects Edinburgh with Fife, then through the seaside village of Aberdour before stopping in the East Neuk villages of Anstruther, Pittenweem, Crail and St. Monans.

Popular day trips with locals, these charming villages are known for fishing trade, beaches, and witchcraft.

The next stop is St Andrews, which is famous for golf and the meeting place of Prince William and Catherine Middleton (Kate).

The tour then heads to the Lomond Hills and Falkland, an Outlander location where you can pose by Bruce Fountain as Jamie’s ghost does, looking up at Claire in Mrs Baird’s Guesthouse window.

On the way back to Edinburgh, the route passes Loch Leven and stops at the bustling South Queensferry to see the Forth Bridges in all of their glory.

There are hundreds of reviews such as “more than enough photo stops” and “enough time in all of our stops”.

Hadrian’s Wall & Roman Britain 1-Day Tour from Edinburgh

Cross the border between Scotland and England during this bus tour to Hadrian’s Wall.

Departing Edinburgh in the morning, the first stop is Jedburgh in the Scottish Borders, one of 70 former royal burghs in the country, known for the 12th century Augustinian Abbey.

Next, the bus stops at Carter Bar, aka toll-gate, on the edge of the Cheviot Hills, which separates Scotland from England.

UK Travel Planning Guide: the FAQs

🏥 Should I buy UK travel insurance?

Absolutely yes. Basic coverage is not expensive, and as a visitor you are NOT covered under the NHS. Compare policies and prices with Travel Insurance Master here , a big name in the travel insurance business, and cross that off your list.

🔌 Do I need travel adapters for the UK?

Yes, you do, otherwise you won’t be able to plug in your electronics/phone/lifelines. I recommend this one , which is all-in-one so you can use it in other countries.

🚗 What do I need to drive in the UK?

The first thing you need to check out if you’re planning on renting a car in the UK is this guide to driving in the UK for visitors – the roads, signs, and driving experience will likely not be what you’re used to and it’s essential to prepare yourself to stay safe and aware.

🛌 What’s the best way to book hotels in the UK?

For UK hotels, Booking is the best site as it offers free cancellation on many properties. If you want an apartment, I always recommend VRBO over AirBnb.

📳 Will my phone work in the UK?

Yes – if you set it up right. Check out my guide on making your foreign phone work in the UK to ensure that you get the type of service you need.

🚿 Can I drink the water in the UK?

Yes, UK water is great and perfectly safe. But drink out of taps in any kitchen or use water fountains. Double check before drinking out of the taps in hotel bathrooms, though, as they may be on a different system. London water is safe to drink .

22/03/23 – Helen and Whitney-May

This was just the most wonderful experience and I would like to commend you and Jerry (our tour guide) on what will likely be the absolute highlight of our trip to the UK (we still have a little while here but you’re going to be hard to beat!) A million thank you’s for this experience. It was all round amazing, from every annoying enquiry I sent last minute to the office, through to the on-the-ground offering. The carefully researched commentary, lovely bus, caring on time guest service levels provided by Jerry and well, the scenery -though not your making 🙂 –  was next level heavenly. I cannot recommend your tour more highly! Warm regards.

17/03/23 – Taylor

We LOVED our tour with Discover Scotland! Our guide Michael was amazing we could not have ask for anyone better. We enjoyed our whole trip from the bus rides hearing stories, history, songs and much more about Scotland, to our quick picture stops, all our longer spots where we had time to explore, and our free time in Kyleakin.  We felt like our interests were heard by our guide and we were given options and suggestions to do things we would enjoy.  The only thing we wished we could change was staying longer. We are very thankful for our guide and discover scotland for everything. Thanks for everything

02 /11/ 22 – Sergio

I had a wonderful time with Discover Scotland Tours. We had an amazing tour guide also our driver named Jerry! The tour had plenty of photographic stops from day 1. Driving through the Highlands into the Isle of Skye and to Loch ness the group and I could feel the magic Scottish atmosphere. Thank you Jerry for taking care of every single one of us and thank you Discover Scotland Tours for this fantastic experience.

We had an amazing time! John our guide was perfect! I can’t say enough good things about him! He obviously loves his job and the island.  I appreciated how you kept in touch with me leading up to the tour and how responsive and clearly  you answered my questions. I will most definitely recommend John Black and your company to everyone willing to hear me go on about what an amazing experience we had. Thank you for everything and with some luck we will be making more plans with your company.

19/08/22 – Kylie + Corbin

Our 3-day Isle of Skye tour with Scott was unforgettable! Despite road closures to start the trip, Scott maintained positivity that radiated throughout the group. Each day brought adventure and memories that we will always cherish. It’s easy to see that Scott loves people and Scotland as he went out of his way to make sure everyone got to see and do what they set out to. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience and guide!

02/08/22 – Angelina

My friends and I recently went on the Isle of Skye, Highlands, and Loch Ness 3-day tour from Edinburgh, and it was the highlight of our vacation! Our tour guide, John Black, was quite the character. Throughout the whole trip, he was super cheery and always cracking jokes. His personal anecdotes, vast knowledge, and captivating story-telling provided us with a unique glimpse into the Scottish people, culture, and history. John was extremely accommodating for everyone on the tour, making frequent stops for bathroom breaks and food throughout the day. The bus itself was very comfortable, with AC and plenty of space for everyone, and had great views no matter where one sat. Our accommodation was booked through Discover Scotland as well, at Winklebeech bnb in Kyleakin. It had a quaint and homey vibe, and the owner was super welcoming. She was also extremely accommodating to our dietary restrictions and even offered us some bug spray after seeing all of our midge bites! The rooms were tidy and comfortable, with all the necessities one may need. We managed to hit all the destinations on the tour, and it ran very smoothly with no delays. We were especially in awe with the Isle of Skye- It’s a must-see for everyone who visits Scotland! Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend Discover Scotland Tours and would visit again in a heartbeat!

28 /07/22 – Roxanne

We had a wonderful time and it was through this tour that Scotland came alive for us. Our Tour Leader made a point of getting to know each of us. In between the gorgeous countryside and  the historical background Michael provided, he played songs told amusing stories and made it us feel like we were all part of one family. There were lots of stops for the bathroom and food as well. He was patient answering all of our questions and was respectful of the country’s we came from. We loved this tour and will be talking about it for quite some time. Also good value for our money.

11/07/22 – Darryl

We were very happy with our three day tour. This being our first, and probably only trip to Scotland, we appreciated the variety of things we saw and the general information about your country.

We were especially impressed with our tour guide, John Sheedy. In addition to being an all-around nice guy, he was very attentive to everyone’s needs and well prepared with interesting stories. Having grown up on the isle of Skye was a bonus. John conveyed his genuine love and pride of Scotland and made our trip fun and comfortable.

01/07/22 – Jessica

Mark and I had THE BEST weekend. It’s my first time in Scotland, and although it was a whirlwind, I’m excited to get back and spend more time in certain places. Accommodation was great, Garry was FANTASTIC. So warm and bubbly and knowledgeable and fun.  We’re both quite introverted and I was overwhelmed and missing my children and we never once felt pressured or intruded on, but also Garry made us both feel so seen and included, I was so grateful for how he handled us. Lots of stops, would be good to have a bit more time in some places, but I also really liked ticking lots of things off my list. It was also really relaxing, I slept on the bus all the time – as a parent it was just so lovely to not have to worry about ANYTHING.  Garry added a few fun things in that I wasn’t expecting which was so great! Lots of Harry Potter stops! A DINOSAUR FOOTPRINT! I just loved every minute.  I would do it again in a heartbeat. I hope you add some northern Scotland tours! Let me know if you do.

10/06/22 – Gráinne

My tour was the Isle of Skye, the Highlands & Loch Ness 3 day tour with Gary. The itinerary was great. Loved all the stops. Loads of time at each stop , didn’t feel rushed. Our tour guide, Gary, was fantastic. He had loads of fun facts and quips and kept us all motivated even though the weather was against us. Will definitely recommend Gary and the tour to anyone!

Situated on the east coast of Skye is the fishing village of Kyleakin and this is where we stay for both nights of our tour. During peak season some of our passengers may be allocated accommodation in the villages nearby to Kyleakin.

The village has some restaurants for evening dining and a shop should you require any necessities.

What about my accommodation?

Your tour excludes accommodation. During the tour booking process you will be asked if you are booking your own accommodation or whether you wish us to reserve this on your behalf?

Booking my own accommodation

If booking your own accommodation this should be in the village of Kyleakin where most of our customers will be staying. The nearby villages of Breakish or Broadford is fine, however some accommodation providers are situated on roads that even our small coaches cannot get down, so please check with us first at [email protected]

Please contact us to let us know the name of the accommodation you have reserved.

Walking, bus, and coach trips: The best tours from Edinburgh

Our helpful team pride themselves on their ability to provide guests with Edinburgh insider recommendations, be it for dining, activities, tours, transfers, or Scottish history. With so many stories to tell, Scotland’s capital city has plenty of tours and day trips to choose from (so many that it can sometimes be a little overwhelming). With years of experience behind them, our team have created this handy guide to Edinburgh tours, in the hopes of making your decision making a little easier.

The best Edinburgh underground tours?

Did you know that Edinburgh has its very own underground city? And (what’s more), you can explore the old streets and dark dwellings for yourself! We won’t give too much away; the following tours will take you on an adventure below the Old Town that you won’t find anywhere else!

The Real Mary King’s Close

Possibly the most famous of the underground tours, The Real Mary King’s Close often needs to be booked in advance to avoid missing out (especially in the summer months). This walk around the 17 th century close gives a grisly insight into the way people lived in the (then) overpopulated area.

Mercat Ghost & History Tours

Founded back in 1985 by local history teachers, Mercat Tours are hosted by enthusiastic Storytellers. None of their team are given scripts and every Storyteller is encouraged to bring their own energy to each tale, whether they’re taking you across the Old Town for a deep dive into Edinburgh’s history, or down into the hidden vaults for rumours of ghosts and misery.

Edinburgh bus tours

City sightseeing tour.

You can’t possibly miss the bright red, open-top busses of the City Sightseeing Tour team as they buzz around the capital. Their hop-on, hop-off system makes them a great option for seeing all the main attractions of Edinburgh. They offer multi-language commentary and a special Horrible Histories commentary for kids, narrated by British children’s author, Terry Deary, himself!

The Ghost bus

Taking you past the Grassmarket, Greyfriars Kirk, and Edinburgh Castle (to name just a few), this vintage double-decker and its terrifying conductor help you explore the haunted history of Edinburgh on a 1.15-hour tour. Be prepared for spooky tales, delivered in a comedic manor.

3 Bridges Tour

Want to head a little further afield without heading to the Highlands? Explore the outskirts of Edinburgh with the picturesque 3 Bridges Bus and Boat Tour. You’ll join the tour in the heart of city and head to the picturesque town of Queensferry, followed by a boat cruise on the Firth of Forth to see the famous road and rail bridges.

Edinburgh Walking Tours

Wee walking tours.

What could be better than a walking tour with a delightful Golden Retriever as your guide? Sami is a former university history professor with extensive tour experience . He is sometimes assisted by Sawyer, his 4-legged companion, who brings joy to visitors and residents of Edinburgh whenever he is out on the town. Sawyer has become a local celebrity in his own right (look out for his purple tour jacket).

Edinburgh Tour Guides

An Edinburgh-based, family run company who run tours in the mornings, afternoons, and evenings. To help decide what’s right for you, they offer wonderful virtual tours on their website to inspire you before your trip. Their tours include visits to Old Edinburgh, Georgian Edinburgh, and the Royal Mile.

Edinburgh Free Walking Tour

You’ll find lots of free walking tour guides on the Royal Mile, all with slightly different routes, stories, and languages on offer. City Explorers host a daily tour that starts at 11am and lasts 2 hours, offering an interactive and informative stroll around the city’s main sights.

The Potter Trail

Harry Potter fans will be delighted to learn that they can grab their wands and head out on foot to discover the magical locations that inspired characters and scenes from the famous wizard series. The tours are free, but (as with the City Explorer tour), guides will ask for a donation at the end of the tour.

What are the best tours from Edinburgh?

Rabbie’s tours.

For day trip outside of Edinburgh and across Scotland, we recommend Rabbie’s Tours. The team cover everything from nearby trips to Rosslyn Chapel (made increasingly famous by The Da Vinci Code) to Loch Ness, Glencoe, and the Highlands beyond. Trips are made on 16-seat mini-coaches and aim to support local communities, all whilst delivering stories by friendly local guides.

And finally, we’re often asked … “How many days are enough for Edinburgh?”

If you’re a first-time visitor to the city, we would recommend that guests give themselves 2-3 days to explore and include the main tourist attractions of the capital. Edinburgh is small enough that most of it can be enjoyed on foot, but we delight in the convenience that the city bus tours provide for those with mobility difficulties (or those short on time).

Need help with booking and tour reservations? Let us take the work out of your visit – our friendly concierge team are always happy to assist. Do not hesitate to get in touch with us and we will gladly make all the arrangements.
