Stacie-Maree Gordon

Centre director, goodstart anu.

Hello, my name is Stacie-Maree and I am the Centre Director at Goodstart Early Learning ANU.

I have been working in Early Childhood Education and Care since 2007, I commenced working with Goodstart in February 2019.

A little bit about my pedagogical approach - I am a strong advocate for children's rights and their access to quality play focused education. I believe developing respectful nurturing relationships with children provides them with a sense of belonging and gives them the best chance at educational success.

I believe in always being inclusive of children's voices within a program, as this best supports the development of their agency and curiosity, which allows them to investigate new ideas; this also allows children to understand they are capable and they are trusted to express ideas, which in turn, builds their confidence and scaffolds their self-esteem within themselves to always try new things.

I have a passion for supporting and mentoring my team to strive for professional goals and I ensure they will always be given opportunities to exceed in their roles. Our team works inclusively and whole heartedly to provide high quality, inclusive education and care for the children that attend Goodstart ANU, and we endeavour to build strong, respectful relationships with our families and community.

If we sound like a centre that aligns with your values for early learning, please leave an enquiry, book in a tour and we look forward to meeting you and your child/ren.

What exactly is in the Family Behaviour Support Kit?

As a social purpose we are passionate about supporting the learning and development outcomes for children, both in our centres and at-home. We've created this toolkit to help parents support their children as they learn and navigate through their behaviours and emotions.

The Family Behaviour Support Kit has a number of key resources for parents to use including:

  • A detailed guide to step you through how to use each resource with your child.
  • A routine chart to help with understanding what needs to be done each day/morning/night.
  • Picture cards and a ‘ First and Then’ chart to show visually what a child should do first and then (e.g. First we go to the toilet, then we wash our hands). This resource is particularly useful in supporting children to do those ‘tricky’ or ‘not fun’ tasks.
  • A number of useful printed charts and tools focused on emotions and calming down strategies
  • Stop, Think, Do chart to support your child’s behaviour.
  • How to acknowledge positive behaviours chart for you to complete as a parent.

You can purchase the Family Behaviour Support Kit here: https://shop.goodstartathome.org.au/ .

Can I order more than one Family Behaviour Support Kit?

Yes, absolutely. We know this is something that families may want to purchase for other parents or even educators and teachers who may want to purchase them to support families in their class/centre.

About our centre

Our play based, stimulating curriculum is based on the Early Years’ Learning Framework and our rooms – from Nursery to Kindergarten – are all geared with this in mind. We also develop colourful, engaging programs accounting for each child’s individual interests, needs and strengths; and with each step we are ensuring the children are ready to take the big step into schooling.   This is made simpler through our intuitive Storypark platform, which enables us to maintain consistent and clear communications with families. That means we are better placed to support a child in their learning journey, ensure parents have peace of mind, and time stamp the children’s developments, milestones and achievements.   Outside, our playground areas are a balance of natural and manmade elements and play surfaces – with three areas offering sandpits, undercover verandahs, bike paths, climbing fort, garden beds and lots of shade. We have carefully designed and planned spaces to encourage a stronger understanding of the environment and sustainability – while giving children the scope to explore, play and let their imaginations roam.

Our families love our opening hours, flexibility with casual care arrangements, and ability to swap days to suit family needs. We also help families with accessing local resources and making connections with other families through our planned bi-monthly events. We would love to meet you and your family and explore how we can support you on this early learning journey.

When every moment counts, make them Goodstart moments.

Kylie Shelley

Centre Director

Hi, my name is Kylie Shelley , and I am the Centre Drector at Goodstart Early learning Noosaville.

I started working in the Early Childhood sector in 2003, I have worked in a variety of roles such as , Team Leader, and Assistant Director and currently Centre Director across all ages from 6 weeks to 6 years.

I have been with Goodstart for 19years in Melbourne, Victoria and a Centre Director of 10 years. I hold a Diploma in Children's Servicesa & Senior First Aid and Anaphylaxis.

I believe in children learning through play. We encourage children to learn at their own pace through high quality educational programs and having opportunities to explore their environments to build strong social and emotional skills. We welcome and encourage parents to participate in the program and be involved in their children’s early learning experience.

We provide a play-based learning program that will support children in learning the skills they need for school and life. I believe that ‘play’ provides opportunity for children to learn, discover, imagine, interact, and communicate. I think it’s important that we offer this to children in a warm, safe, friendly, and inviting environment.

I believe my role is to support children, their families, and staff to feel welcome at the service. I believe it’s important for me to create a safe environment for everybody feel, safe, supported and listened to.

  • How To Promote

author reads on an indie book tour

Estimated reading time: 6 minutes

A book tour may sound like some fanciful dream for an indie author, the kind of thing that’s only available to traditionally published authors with six-digit advances. But plenty of independent authors plan and execute successful book tours. In the end, bookstores don’t care if your book was published by one of the Big 5 publishers or if you self-published it; they only care that you can drive traffic to their store.

Table of Contents: • Before contacting bookstores • Create a sell-sheet • Scaling your tour • How can I find suitable venues for my book tour? • Schedule way in advance • Collaborate with other writers or influencers • Create promotional campaigns • Adapt to the ambiance • Rehearsal and dry runs • Day of the event • You need books for your tour!

Book tours offer independent authors a chance to forge partnerships with bookstores, libraries, and other venues. They also offer opportunities to meet their readers, find new ones, and get a better sense of how their writing connects with their audience. So how do you plan a successful book tour?

Before contacting bookstores

Before you start calling bookstores to schedule dates, you’re going to need some essential information on hand. When is your exact release date? How can the store get copies of your book?

A good idea is to create a sell-sheet you can deliver to venue owners so they will have everything they need in one organized, complete document.

Create a sell-sheet

A sell-sheet should include:

  • A prominent image of your book’s cover.
  • A three-to-five sentence blurb describing your book.
  • General information, including your release date, publisher/ imprint , the book’s ISBN, page count, and purchasing info.
  • A short about the author paragraph introducing who you are. Mention anything that will make you look great, like other published books or awards.
  • Your contact information, including website, email address, and phone number.
  • Any testimonials or reviews you’ve amassed that can vouch for the quality of your book and writing.

Here is an article that offers up great design ideas for sell-sheets. If you’re not a designer, consider hiring one.

Scaling your tour

The words “book tour” tend to evoke images of flying off to distant and glamorous locales across North America, but if this is your first tour, think locally. Start with a library, bookstore, and school in your hometown and branch out from there. Draw a circle around your house and find appropriate venues within an hour’s drive so you’re not dealing with hotel and travel expenses.

Also, by keeping it local, you are more likely to be a draw — and you’re more likely to know people who can come out to your event. Once you’ve hit all the places in your region, you’ll have a better sense of how well your tour is going and how people are reacting to your live event. Then you’ll be in a better place to expand your tour to other regions.

When choosing your next region, hit areas where you have friends first, or bring friends with you and make it a road trip.

How can I find suitable venues for my book tour?

Bookstores seem like the most logical venues for hosting a book signing or reading, but that may not be the only or best place for you. (Not to mention, bookstores tend to book up, especially in the holiday season.) If you’re a children’s book author, you might want to focus on schools. Libraries are always open to hosting events, especially if the author is local and especially for nonfiction authors who can work educational angles into their presentations.

Cafes, community centers, art galleries, museums, and universities can also be excellent places to host an event. Consider the demographics of your target audience as well as the subject matter of your book. Tailoring your venue choices to your readers’ preferences will enhance the overall experience and boost attendance.

Research local book festivals and conferences to see if you can attend as a reader, panelist, or judge.

Schedule way in advance

If you wait until the last minute, you’re not going to have many options available to you. You also won’t have time to promote your appearance. Consider booking your tour four-to-six months ahead of time. Not only will you be more likely to get the dates you want, but you’ll have time for promotion and more flexibility should plans change.

Collaborate with other writers or influencers

Consider teaming up with other authors or influencers who share your target audience. Collaborative events can draw a larger crowd and provide a dynamic experience for attendees. Plus, these joint efforts will lighten the workload for you when it comes to promotion and planning.

Create promotional campaigns

six months to publishing

Adapt to the ambiance

Each venue has its ambiance, and you should tailor your event to match. If you’re in a cozy cafe, an intimate, conversational format might be suitable. In contrast, a bookstore might accommodate a larger crowd for readings and Q&A sessions.

Rehearsal and dry runs

If you’ve never read your work out loud before, you will definitely want to practice. If possible, conduct dry-run events with a small group of friends or colleagues to gather feedback and identify spots to address in your presentation. Or try recording yourself and review to determine what works and what doesn’t. Make sure you are confident and rehearsed when it comes to showtime.

Day of the event

On the day of any of your tour events, arrive early to set up. Greet attendees with warmth and enthusiasm and create a welcoming atmosphere. Engage in meaningful interactions, sign books, and make an effort to connect with your readers. Capture the moments through photos and videos to share on your social media platforms and keep the tour’s momentum alive.

You need books for your tour!

Planning a book tour requires meticulous preparation and creativity. And if this is your first book tour, keep your expectations realistic — it’s not likely you’ll have 400 people showing up for each stop. Your goal with this first tour is to plant the seeds for your future tours: form personal connections with readers and venue owners, showcase your work, and build your email list. These should be the hallmarks of a successful tour.

Of course, the first thing you need for a book tour is your physical books, and BookBaby’s Complete Self-Publishing Packages have everything you need to publish printed books that will impress your readers at every tour event.

Liz Truss at the Heritage Foundation, Washington DC, 22 April 2024.

Fair to say America isn’t gripped by Liz Trussmania. Here’s what she can learn from Mr Bean

Emma Brockes

Our former PM has a dire warning and a book to sell, but it isn’t really cutting through. A bit more Brit-style bumbling might help

‘I know the name,” texts a friend when I ask if she knows who Liz Truss is, but like most Americans can’t quite put her finger on why. “Like 8%,” guesses another when I ask her to put a number on how many of her countrymen she imagines know of Truss. The standard response, in my extremely unscientific poll of Americans as to whether or not they know of Truss, however, was: “No, should I?” – the answer to which, of course, depends entirely on whether you want to understand why the Tory party is polling around 20% or whether you happen to be Liz Truss.

Truss, the only one of us to suffer that particular misfortune, was in Washington DC this week trying, like so many minor British celebrities before her, to catch the eye of the Americans. At the Heritage Foundation, a rightwing thinktank that hosted the launch of Truss’s book Ten Years to Save the West , she came bearing a “warning”. Not an ideal ice-breaker, perhaps, but one clearly tailored to an audience receptive to the frisson of the term “forces of the global left”.

She then provided a perfect illustration of how British people try to win over Americans. “I like to think of the United States of America as Britain’s greatest invention,” said Truss, a piece of comic rank-pulling that relies, for the joke to land, on the delusion that Britain is central to American thinking or penetrates American consciousness at all. Even the sorts of Americans who show up to events at the Heritage Foundation must have been politely baffled by this.

Still, it’s possible Truss did better than the other British export trying and failing to win over Americans this month. Blur’s performance at Coachella last week – and particularly that of Damon Albarn – delivered the timeless drama of a man’s idea of himself crashing into a rival and more widely held view. “You’re never seeing us again, so you might as well fucking sing it,” shouted Albarn when, during a rendition of Girls & Boys, he tried to get a call and response off the ground and the crowd remained largely unresponsive. “Know what I’m saying?” he added savagely. And they did, apparently, rewarding his yelling, sneering and eventual tip into bitterness by continuing to withhold their approval.

The challenge for Albarn, Truss and all the others who have tried to charm this particular away crowd is to project a jaunty, offhand confidence that somehow disguises the scale of the need and the fear of rejection. It can make for an odd spectacle, bad jokes and terrible sycophancy. “The world felt safer when Donald Trump was in office,” said Truss this week, and you wondered at her shamelessness – not because sucking up to Trump is unusual in America, but because, coming from a British person, even a former Conservative prime minister, you assume that she is able to see Trump marginally more clearly than her American counterparts, and that at some level she knows that we know this.

There is, however, one thing that may work to Truss’s favour in the US. British critics of Tony Blair used to hammer him for a smoothness that struck some as pseudo-American, and which contributed to his currency – or at least legibility – in the US. Margaret Thatcher’s strident persona had about it a force that, particularly since she was played by Meryl Streep in the movie, has been claimed by some in the US as “American” in flavour.

But Truss has something that can land equally well coming from British people trying to break the US: an effortless, almost Mr Bean-like social awkwardness that invites in Americans a rival condescension, and is frequently utilised by British people abroad. Truss’s odd syntax, lame jokes and occasionally unnerving eye contact may stand a better chance of landing in the US as charming eccentricity, or an extension of the standard-issue bumbling Brit.

Although, of course, in this case, it’s all moot, because no one knows who she is. The New York Times didn’t cover Truss’s book launch in Washington, nor did the Washington Post, and the book currently sits outside the top 4,000 on US Amazon. Her warning, whatever it was, will go not only unheeded but unheard – with no one more profoundly, one assumes, than Donald Trump.

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

Fans theorize that Taylor Swift is changing her Eras Tour setlist to include songs from her new album, “The Tortured Poets Department.”

Swift shared a black-and-white video collage of her practicing for the upcoming leg of her tour and added her new single, “Fortnight,” in the background to YouTube Shorts on Thursday.

The Grammy winner, 34, included several snippets of her wearing different athleisure outfits while holding a microphone, singing and dancing on different parts of the stage.

The “Cruel Summer” songstress even featured a snap of her playing her acoustic guitar and sitting at her signature mossy piano.

However, some eagle-eyed fans noticed a few differences in some of the clips from what she’s done in her past shows –– such as her background dancers wearing black top hats and canes.

Swift also appeared to be leaning on a silver pole that seemed to have a white “TTPD” sign hanging on the side of it. Fans additionally pointed out her white guitar and matching microphone.

Swift will resume her tour in Paris in two weeks –– aka a fortnight –– on May 9.

Several fans flooded the comments pointing out the changes and wrote about how convinced they are she’ll be swapping some songs for “TTPD” hits.

Swift has not released the setlist for her upcoming shows and she did not share the setlist before she kicked off the tour in Arizona in March 2023.

The “Shake it Off” songstress previously sang 44 songs on every show and swapped out two songs each concert that were acoustic “surprise songs” not included in the same setlist.

After Paris, Swift will hit several European countries, including Sweden, Spain and Portugal, before wrapping up in London in August.

7 of the best all-inclusive experiences to book this year, from a travel planner

  • As a travel planner, my clients seem to be increasingly interested in all-inclusive trips .
  • Some of my favorite luxury resorts are in Costa Rica, the Maldives, and Isla Mujeres.
  • Cruises, group tours, and adults-only lodgings can also come with all-inclusive options.

Insider Today

As a travel planner at Marvelous Mouse Travels , I know vacations are expensive — especially if you're looking to go somewhere this summer . But all-inclusive travel is often a great way to get the most value out of a luxury experience.

I've been on several all-inclusive vacations with my family, friends, and work, and I've helped other people book them in destinations around the world .

Here are some of the best all-inclusive experiences I'm recommending to my clients this year.

Try a split-stay vacation to see the best of Costa Rica.

book a tour goodstart

Costa Rica is one of the most sought-after vacations , and for good reason. It's great for both relaxation and adventure.

I recommend booking a split stay, starting at an all-inclusive resort in Guanacaste near the beach for some fun in the sun and moving to a resort near the famous Arenal Volcano for a jungle adventure.

Some of my favorite resorts in Costa Rica are the Westin Reserva Conchal and the Dreams Las Mareas. And if you're looking for an even more unique experience, check out the glorious swim-out suites with private pools at Dreams.

Baglioni Maldives is one of my favorite all-inclusive resorts.

book a tour goodstart

The Maldives, a remote set of islands in the Indian Ocean, offers a plethora of resort options for couples and families, but Baglioni Maldives is my favorite.

For many in the US, getting to the islands can be daunting — there are very few direct commercial flights, and it can take almost an entire day. But it's hard to beat the country's luxury accommodations and gorgeous landscape.

The Maldives also has some of the most beautiful marine life and coveted spots for snorkeling and scuba diving.

No matter where you go, overwater bungalows are the ultimate all-inclusive splurge.

book a tour goodstart

Overwater bungalows — villas standing on poles over open ocean water — are prevalent at all-inclusive resorts in destinations like the Maldives, Fiji, and Bali.

But I've also come across the luxurious accommodations at select adults-only Sandals Resorts throughout the Caribbean.

I think having a private villa on the water is the perfect way to unwind and relax.

Adults-only vacations are on the rise.

Traveling with kids can be a blast, but I also think it's important for adults to take a much-needed break on their own.

Adults-only resorts have been a total respite for me and my husband after hectic months of juggling work with our kids' school and sports schedules.

If you're looking to unwind with a partner, relax on a girls' trip, or even connect with your adult children, there are countless adults-only, all-inclusive resorts to choose from, depending on where you're looking to visit.

Some properties, including Sandals and Beaches Resorts, also offer butler service. Designated staff members can help with anything from room requests and dining reservations to cabana rentals and transportation coordination.

I upgraded to the service at my favorite adults-only spot, Le Blanc Los Cabos, and I felt totally pampered.

Isla Mujeres is pure luxury.

Isla Mujeres, a small island off the coast of Cancún, is known for its crystal-clear, turquoise water and peaceful vibe. It's also home to Playa Norte, one of the best beaches in Mexico .

Impressions Isla Mujeres by Secrets is a gorgeous all-inclusive resort on the island. It offers luxury at its finest, but with only 125 rooms, it has a boutique feel.

One of my favorite features of the resort is the waterslide that leads right into the beautiful ocean.

There are plenty of all-inclusive packages at sea.

Cruising is one of the most popular vacations , whether it's an epic adventure on a Royal Caribbean Cruise, a couples-only journey on Virgin Voyages, or a regal tour of Europe on Viking River Cruises.

Although cruises aren't traditionally considered all-inclusive, with the right booking, they can have the same feel as a luxury resort.

Most cruise bookings include food, nonalcoholic drinks, and live entertainment. If you add beverage packages and excursions in advance, your trip should be fully paid for before you depart.

Book a small-group or private tour if you're looking for adventure.

Group travel is a great way to explore new places while soaking up culture and history.

Popular destinations include Italy, Japan, Costa Rica, and Alaska, and many travel companies take care of everything for you, essentially making it all-inclusive.

I like Adventures by Disney , which offers small-group travel all over the world facilitated by seasoned guides. All the trip details are taken care of, including experiences, food, lodging, and transportation.

Additionally, Kensington Tours offers luxury private travel where every facet of the trip is meticulously planned for you.
