You may not have heard of start-up carrier Breeze Airways, but it’s among the fastest-growing airlines in the country. Created by JetBlue founder David Neeleman in 2021, Breeze takes a different approach compared to most other airlines.

Straddling the line between a budget and full-service airline, Breeze’s primary differentiator is that it enters smaller to mid-sized markets. This is quite different than legacy airlines which operate on a hub-and-spoke model, where travelers connect through a larger hub before arriving at their final destination.

Since its debut in 2021, Breeze has introduced routes to dozens of American cities. It has already become a passenger favorite thanks to its flexible change and cancellation policies. Combined with a low-fare model, travelers from these smaller cities can visit new destinations at a lower cost thanks to Breeze.

With an enticing business model, you may wonder: What is it like to fly with Breeze Airways?

I flew Breeze twice in the past year — from Raleigh-Durham (RDU) to Los Angeles (LAX) and Providence (PVD). In this review, I’ll go through everything you should know before flying the airline.

With seamless booking, no change or cancellation fees, and customized flight features, Breeze makes it easy to buy and easy to fly.” Fleet: 35+ planes (Airbus A220-300, Embraer E190, Embraer E195) Headquarters:  Cottonwood Heights, Utah Primary Airports: Charleston International Airport (CHS), Hartford Bradley International Airport (BDL), Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) , Norfolk International Airport (ORF), Orlando International Airport (MCO) , Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport (PVD), Provo Airport (PVU), and Tampa International Airport (TPA) Destinations:  45+ (in the continental U.S.)

Breeze serves a wide variety of airports across the U.S., bringing services that other airlines may have neglected in the past. In 2024 alone, Breeze began operating in cities like Gulfport, Mississippi, and Burlington, Vermont — with no signs of slowing down.

Unlike traditional airlines, Breeze doesn’t usually offer flights every single day of the week as it operates a point-to-point model. For instance, some routes may only operate on a once-weekly or twice-weekly basis .

In other cases, Breeze may only offer certain routes seasonally. With an ever-changing schedule, the best way to see the airline’s updated schedule is by searching for flights through Breeze’s website directly or via its mobile app ( iOS , Android ).

While the vast majority of Breeze flights are nonstop routes, the airline debuted its unique “BreezeThru” service in 2023. BreezeThru is a one-stop routing that allows passengers and their bags to stay onboard as the flight picks up the next set of travelers.

For instance, my flight from Los Angeles (LAX) to Raleigh-Durham (RDU) was marketed as a “BreezeThru” service to Hartford (BDL). As I disembarked the plane to Raleigh-Durham, some passengers stayed on the plane as Breeze continued onto Hartford. Then, Breeze also picked up more passengers from Raleigh-Durham to Hartford.

The airline sticks true to its “Seriously Nice” theme by offering 2 main fare classes: Nice and Nicer. A third fare class, Nicest, is only available on its A220 aircraft — more on this below.

Speaking in colloquial airline terms, the Nice class is more akin to a standard basic economy fare. This will be the cheapest ticket by far, but you’re limited to a personal item (larger carry-on bags cost extra) and will not be allowed to pick a seat assignment in advance.

The Nicer level comes with several extra benefits that may be worth the surcharge. More like a premium economy fare, you’ll enjoy an extra legroom seat assignment (with up to 34 inches of legroom!) and a free carry-on and checked bag.

Finally, the Nicest level on the A220 is similar to a domestic first class product on other airlines , with up to 2 free checked bags and unlimited snacks and beverages onboard. Depending on the aircraft you’re flying, you’ll even get a much better seat, called Ascent class. Only available on the airline’s A220, this seat is a spacious recliner with a whopping 39 inches of legroom.

Given the options, which ticketing option should you pick? Budget travelers who can pack everything in a personal item the size of a backpack can find immense value from the Nice fare, while most travelers will benefit from booking a Nicer ticket that includes a seat assignment and bags.

Even as a budget-friendly airline, Breeze offers one of the most flexible modification policies (which we’ll discuss further in-depth below). All travelers — even in the base-level Nice class — can change or cancel their flight up to 15 minutes before departure and receive credit valid for future travel up to 24 months.

Travelers can earn BreezePoints by booking flights and paying for extra surcharges on the airline (the base fare excludes any taxes and fees associated with the ticket).

• Nice: 2% of the base fare
• Nicer: 4% of the base fare
• Nicest: 6% of the base fare
• Carry-On and Checked Baggage: 4% of the charge
• Seat Selection: 4% of the charge
• Pet Fee: 4% of the charge

As mentioned, travelers can change or cancel their flights (in any fare class) up to 15 minutes before departure. The future travel credit is awarded in the form of BreezePoints and will also expire 2 years after issuance.

In addition, the airline hints that travelers will soon be able to earn more BreezePoints on other items purchased, including inflight snacks and beverages.

BreezePoints are simple to earn and just as easy to use as they’re worth 1 cent apiece. In other words, 1,000 BreezePoints would be worth $10 toward future Breeze flights.

At this time, Breeze does not offer an elite status program. However, the airline plans to debut its first-ever co-branded credit card with Barclays in early 2024, allowing loyal flyers to earn even more BreezePoints from their daily spending.

Breeze Baggage and Other Fees

Travelers may be subject to several baggage fees depending on the ticket they booked, which may already include carry-on or checked bags.

That said, those baggage fees can add up quickly, so booking the Nicer fare might make sense instead of paying these extra charges.

All travelers can bring 1 free personal item onboard no larger than 17 x 13 x 8 inches (43 x 33 x 20 centimeters), no matter if they’re booked in Nice, Nicer, or Nicest class.

Flyers in Nicer and Nicest can bring 1 free carry-on bag onboard no larger than 24 x 14 x 10 inches (61 x 35 x 25 centimeters). The carry-on bag also is subject to a maximum weight of 35 pounds, though anecdotally, this is rarely enforced.

Additionally, Nicer class flyers can check 1 free bag, while Nicest class flyers can check up to 2 free bags. The maximum size of these checked bags is 62 linear inches, and the maximum weight is 50 pounds each.

This means travelers in Nice class (basic economy) are subject to both carry-on and checked-bag fees. However, Breeze’s baggage fees are dynamically priced depending on the route you’re flying.

The airline has made it easy to know how much you’ll be charged by entering your travel details on its baggage fees page . That said, Breeze’s carry-on fees range from $30 to $35, based on a few sample route searches conducted by Upgraded Points. It appears that shorter flights charge the $30 rate, while cross-country and transcontinental routes have a slightly higher $35 rate.

Travelers can check up to 3 bags on any flight, and the following baggage fees apply:

• First Bag: $35 to $40
• Second Bag: $55
• Third Bag: $65

Overweight and oversized bags are subject to additional fees per flight:

• 51 to 71 Pounds: $20 fee
• 71 to 99 Pounds: $50 fee
• 63 to 80 Inches: $50 fee

Checked bags weighing over 99 pounds or measuring more than 80 linear inches will not be accepted.

In any case, travelers should consider adding bags to their reservations in advance. Carry-on and checked bags charged at the airport — or when calling customer service — result in an additional $75 fee per bag.

Canceled your ticket and prepaid for bags? You’ll also receive credit in the form of BreezePoints toward a future flight (or bag).

Guest Empowerment Team Booking:  Breeze allows you to book flights or modify your booking online or through the Breeze app. You can also reach out to Breeze’s customer service team via text or email, but all bookings or ticket modifications will result in a non-refundable $9 fee per traveler.

Seat Assignment: Travelers booked in the Nice class will have to pay extra to pick their seats in advance. If you’d rather not roll the dice, you can expect to pay between $10 to $50 for a Nice seat assignment and a $20 to $75 fee for a Nicer seat, depending on the flight.

Snacks and Beverages:  Breeze does not provide complimentary snacks or beverages for travelers (except water). There’s an inflight menu where you can purchase food and drink, including snack boxes.

Modification Fees: Breeze offers one of the best modification policies for travelers: You can change or cancel your Breeze flight online 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time.

You’ll receive a full refund to the original payment method if you cancel your flight within 24 hours of booking and at least 7 days (168 hours) before departure. After this window, you’ll receive a travel credit to your BreezePoints, which will, again, expire after 2 years.

Priority Boarding:  At this time, Breeze does not offer priority boarding to passengers who are not ticketed for Nicer and Nicest class. However, travelers who need extra time to board the plane may be able to board for no additional cost before general boarding begins.

Infant (Lap Child) Fee:  Breeze does not charge for lap infants older than 14 days old or under 2 years of age.

Unaccompanied Minor Fee: Breeze does not accept reservations for unaccompanied minors 13 years of age or younger. All travelers between 13 and 18 are considered adults and therefore do not incur unaccompanied minor fees if flying solo on a Breeze flight. However, they must travel with an adult on multi-segment flights, including BreezeThrus and connecting flights.

Pet Transport Fee:  There’s a $75 fee for 1 pet (maximum of 25 pounds). The pet must fit in a soft-shell carrier which must fit under the seat in front of you. There’s a maximum of 5 pets allowed per flight on a first-come, first-served basis.

Wi-Fi Fee: Breeze is finishing installing Viasat Wi-Fi across its fleet of A220-300 jets in 2024. Wi-Fi is free for Nicest passengers, while all other travelers pay between $5 and $8 to be connected for an entire flight.

You can avoid paying all of the aforementioned fees by carrying the right travel credit card .

By using an eligible Capital One card , you can redeem Capital One miles for 1 cent each as a statement credit for eligible travel purchases (baggage, seat assignments, etc.) purchased within 90 days. For example, a $35 carry-on bag fee on Breeze would only require 3,500 Capital One miles.

The Capital One Venture X card is an excellent option for travelers looking for an all-in-one premium credit card.

Despite being a low-cost airline, Breeze offers a surprising amount of onboard amenities, primarily because of its brand-new fleet of A220 jets.

Inflight Amenities: The exact amenities will depend on the aircraft you’re scheduled to fly on.

Breeze has nearly 2 dozen A220-300 in service reserved for many of its longer domestic flights, which are equipped with the most amenities by far. All travelers will enjoy USB-A and USB-C power ports and inflight entertainment powered by Breeze’s app. Ascent class passengers enjoy free snacks and beverages, 120V AC power outlets, and Wi-Fi (if available).

Some of Breeze’s flights are quite long, especially with its slew of new transcontinental routes the airline plans to launch from San Diego (SAN) . The downside is there are no hot meals in Nicest class (or for purchase), so you’ll want to plan accordingly to avoid going hungry.

The airline’s E190/E195 reserved for shorter hops do not have power outlets. However, passengers can connect to the inflight entertainment system for movies and TV shows through the Breeze app and purchase snacks and drinks for an additional fee.

Seat Specs: Breeze’s hard product continues to impress first-time and long-time air travelers, with spacious seating throughout the cabin.

• A220: Nice seats are 18 inches wide with 30 inches of legroom; Nicer seats are 18 inches wide with 33 inches of legroom; and 12 Nicest class seats are 20.5 inches wide with 39 inches of legroom. There are 137 seats in total.
• E195: Nice seats that are 17.6 inches wide with 31 inches of legroom; Nicer seats that are 17.6 inches wide with 34 to 39 inches of legroom. There are 108 seats in total.
• E190: Nice seats that are 17.6 inches wide with 29 inches of legroom; Nicer seats that are 17.6 inches wide with 33 to 39 inches of legroom. There are 118 and 124 seats in total, depending on the specific aircraft you fly.

Breeze’s A220 is arranged in a 2-2 configuration in Ascent class and a 3-2 configuration in the rest of the cabin. Its smaller E195/E190 aircraft are arranged in a 2-2 configuration.

Breeze Customer Satisfaction

Breeze is a newer airline, so there’s not much government-backed data to show the airline’s delay and cancellation statistics. For example, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ latest data set (from October 2023) doesn’t report any information on Breeze.

Between December 2023 and January 2024, Breeze’s flights were on-time about 61% of the time, according to data from Airportia . During this time frame, average delay times were about 46 minutes, and Breeze canceled about 1% of its flights.

From Airline Quality Rankings (AQR) , Breeze has received a 3/10 from consumers. This ranking isn’t too far off from the current ratings of other carriers, ranging from ultra-low-cost to full-service options:

Breeze Airways Announces Its Third Florida Hub

The low-cost airline will launch a Fort Myers base in October.

Low-cost Breeze Airways has announced its latest crew base in Fort Myers, marking its third hub out of Florida.

“Breeze’s operations from Fort Myers have proven exceptionally popular,” said Breeze Airways president, Tom Doxey, in a statement . “It’s been one of our fastest growing airports, now reaching 19 destinations in less than two years, thanks in large part to our close partnership with the team at Southwest Florida International.”

The airline, which was created by JetBlue founder David Neeleman, connects smaller airports to popular destinations across the country. By establishing a base at Fort Myers in addition to Orlando and Tampa, Breeze can expand with even more flights servicing the rest of the Sunshine State.

Travelers will soon be able to reach Fort Myers, thanks to a handful of seasonal routes beginning just in time for snowbird season. This October, Breeze will launch twice-weekly service from Manchester, N.H.; Newburgh, N.Y.; Lansing, Mich.; Scranton, Pa.; and Bangor, Maine. The airline offers more than a dozen year-round flights to Southwest Florida International Airport:

• Akron/Canton, Ohio

The news comes as Breeze reported its first-ever month of profitability in March, reporting it had “increased unit revenues by more than 30% year-over-year.” Breeze is approaching three years of flying this May, fueling its growth by transitioning to all Airbus A220 fleet by the end of the year, along with its newly announced credit card for its most loyal fliers.

Travelers can book Breeze flights directly on its website , mobile app, or Priceline.com , the airline’s first-ever online travel booking partner. All three fare bundles, “Nice,” “Nicer,” and “Nicest,” can be booked depending on whether passengers need to bring a carry-on or checked bag and pick seats with extra legroom.

Breeze Airways Economy

Overall, I’m a Breeze Airways fan.  From my east coast location and many others, they’ve put together an eclectic flight map, including quite distinctive city pairs.  They offer a version of first class on many of their planes, very unique for a low-cost domestic carrier.  Indeed, I enjoyed that cabin on a previous flight.  But it recently occurred to me that I haven’t described the Breeze Airways economy experience.  Enjoying a premium product is easier; how does Breeze truly measure up to other low-cost carriers’ economy products?  Here’s my take.

As I planned my January Las Vegas trip for my second U2 Sphere show, I crossed my fingers for a Breeze Airways sale.  I lucked out during the Black Friday 2023 timeframe – Breeze offered a 50% off round-trip base fare sale.  While I prefer to book one-way tickets only, I held my nose and booked a round trip to leverage this great deal.

But a fact of life with Breeze is they don’t have daily flights from my closest regional airport.  Instead, I booked a round trip RIC-LAS itinerary which met my schedule.  The total price after the promo was $89.88.  Quite a deal!

At the Airport

Unsurprisingly, the Breeze experience within the airport is bare-bones.  A gate agent seemed to show up only minutes before boarding.  That’s not a big deal, as I and most others had no need for gate services.  The boarding process at RIC was a bit messy.  The gate agent called for subsequent boarding groups too early, creating a considerable line down the terminal.  This was compounded when the agent paused in the middle boarding because “we got some things to take care of.”  A pause in boarding is understandable, but the gate agent creating an unnecessarily-long queue isn’t.  Boarding resumed ten minutes later.

On the flip side, personal item size enforcement was remarkably loose.  On paper, Breeze’s personal item size maximum is 13″x8″x7″ – definitely on the smaller side.  I didn’t want to pay a fee for carry-on size luggage, so my personal item size mattered.  My backpack isn’t big but is certainly over those dimensions.  I didn’t see the agent question anyone’s bag size, including my own.  I boarded without issue.

As I entered Breeze’s Airbus A220, I noticed the 12-seat Ascent cabin (Breeze’s “First Class”) was completely full.  Again, Breeze is really onto something with their discounted first class offering.

Meanwhile, Breeze Airways economy on the A220 is in a 3-2 seating arrangement.  I didn’t pay for an advance seating assignment, and Breeze issued me a window seat on the two-seat side.  Floor space in the window seat is considerably smaller than the aisle and middle seats.  Each seat offers multiple USB charging ports and a coat hook.  Seats recline a comically-limited amount.  The one-year-old plane’s seats were comfortable enough.

A positive of Breeze charging for carry-on size bags are – shocker – less of them, resulting in quicker boarding/deboarding processes.

I didn’t opt for the $6 wifi, but Breeze offers complimentary access to movies, TV shows, and messaging apps.

Breeze Airways flight attendants were chipper enough.  Interestingly, they were very accommodating with our less-than-capacity economy cabin spreading out.  Attendants helpfully announced when passengers could move to other seats, encouraging others to spread out and relax more.  This may seem unremarkable, but for an airline somewhat dependent on extra fees for items like advance seat assignments, I found it generous.  On each of my flights, my neighboring passenger moved to another row.  I had a two-seat row all to myself on my outbound flight, and my own three-seat row on my return!

Flight attendants sold snacks and drinks twice on each flight.  They also offered complimentary tea, coffee, and ice water on multiple occasions.

Breeze Airways Economy – Conclusion

I must admit the low-capacity economy cabin brought more positives to the experience that I can’t necessarily expect on packed Breeze flights.  But many of my Breeze travel needs are for shorter flights where crowded planes won’t impact as much.  Fully cognizant of my own confirmation bias, I’ll be back on Breeze again – definitely in economy, with a bit of Ascent mixed in.  Meanwhile, I’m intrigued for the upcoming Breeze credit card from Barclays.   It’s apparently called the Breeze Easy card – see the above from the in-flight menu card.

Flying with Breeze Airways

When I posted on Instagram that I was flying Breeze Airways, a few of you were curious how it went and what our experience was. They have some great non-stop direct flights from Jacksonville and other cities so I hope this is helpful if you plan to fly them soon!

It is important to note that it is a budget airline, so go into your flight knowing that it is “frills-free” flying typically with these type of airlines and you will pay for things like seat selection. A few tips and things to note to make your experience hopefully go smoother when flying Breeze Airways:

Reservations and Checking-in

• You can pay to reserve your seat when booking, or a seat will be randomly selected for you. They have a section for extra leg room and some airlines offer first class. My husband is 6’1″ and he felt the leg room in normal seating was similar to other airlines, for reference. The plane felt pretty spacious to us, and not too cramped.
• Receive your boarding pass electronically – when checking-in at the airport, they charge you $3 to print your boarding pass (unless you are required to check-in at the airport). Online check-in closes 45 minutes before the flight.
• One personal item is allowed – a small purse or bag that fits under the seat. All other bags have a fee.
• Pay for your luggage while booking your ticket if you know you want to bring a carry-on or checked bag. This will be the most affordable and stress-free way to have your bags when you check in for your flight.
• Active duty military get 2 checked bags and one carry-on for free which is amazing! The military bag allowance is explained here .
• Strollers and carseats can be gate checked, like most airlines.

Boarding and on the Plane

• Families and active-duty military board first before anyone else.
• They offer a complimentary water cup on the plane but everything else (snacks, soft drinks etc.) you need to pay for. So I would bring your own.
• Free WIFI entertainment! Although I mentioned “no-frills”, I was surprised that they had free tv and movies on board. On our plane, they do not have WIFI to purchase (if you want to do work on the air or surf the internet), so keep that in mind.

Cancellations

• If you cancel before 15 minutes of departing, you can get a full refund (in points) that need to be used within 24 months.
• When cancelling within 24 hours for a reservation booked 7 days in advance, you are eligible for a full refund to original payment.

Breeze Airways Customer Service

Breeze does not have a call center, but you can text, Facebook message or email. I contacted them twice, and only the second time was the response a little slow – although both times they were helpful.

Our experience with Breeze Airways

A few things to note about our personal experience : Our flight time changed for both our flights, and although I am not sure the reason, I reached out to Breezeway to confirm that although times shifted, everything was still all set. I was nervous leading up to the flight based on reviews and the fact that they cancelled our route the whole month before. We had a slight delay leaving Jacksonville, but that was due to the fuel truck at the airport, and we did have an hour delay returning. They made up a lot of time in the air and they also de-planed/boarded quite fast.

Keep in mind summer travel hasn’t been smooth for many people, regardless of what airline you fly. In general I would build in a little flexibility for any changes.

Now that we are paying for a toddler, the prices of Breeze paired with a non-stop to our home airport were a no-brainer. We did go into the trip with caution based on reviews of the airline. Based on our experience I would book again – having a non-stop was amazing!

Breeze Airways Cancellation Policy: What You Need to Know

Flight cancellations are the worst, and they seem to be happening more and more frequently these days. That’s why frequent and not-so-frequent travelers should be aware of their options and know what to do if their flight gets canceled at the last minute.

Here’s what you need to know about the Breeze Airways cancellation policy and Breeze Airways customer service.

Why are Breeze flights canceled

There are plenty of reasons a Breeze flight, just like a flight on any other airline, might be canceled. In addition to bad weather and equipment issues, problems like staff shortages or scheduling snafus can also arise. Sometimes the cancellation is the result of a decision made by air traffic control.

While the reason the flight is canceled doesn’t ultimately matter when it comes to refunds and rebooking, it may matter when it comes to other travel-related reimbursements that the airline offers.

What is Breeze Airways’ cancellation policy?

If your flight is canceled, Breeze will offer the option to rebook you on the next available flight or cancel your flight for a refund.

Breeze Airways cancellations may also result in an apology credit from Breeze in the form of BreezePoints. On a recent trip, I received $150 worth of BreezePoints (15,000 points) when my flight was canceled.

But it’s not just canceled flights that Breeze lets you opt out of. If your flight is canceled or delayed for longer than two hours, you can change your flight to a new date any time in the next 14 days or cancel any flight segments not flown for a full refund.

The airline may also offer reimbursement for hotel accommodations if the flight is delayed overnight or rescheduled for the following day — but only if the cancellation or delay was due to the airline’s failure, not for things like air traffic control decisions or weather.

You will have to submit receipts for reimbursement via the Breeze Hotel Reimbursement Request Form within six days to receive payment.

You will have to fill out a Breeze Transportation Reimbursement Request Form online to do so.

What to do if Breeze cancels your flight

If Breeze cancels your flight, you have a few options:

Let the airline rebook you on the next available flight.

Cancel one leg of your flight and get a refund.

Cancel your entire round-trip booking.

There is no Breeze Airways phone number to call, so your only options to get in touch are:

On Messenger via Breeze Airways.

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), if your flight is canceled and the airline is unable to rebook you on an acceptable flight — or you choose to cancel your travel as a result of the flight cancellation — you’re entitled to a full refund of any untraveled portion of your booking as well as extra fees like seat selection and checked luggage.

How to rebook

If you’d like to rebook, you can chat with a gate agent at the airport or rebook yourself online.

To do so, sign in to the My Trips section of the Breeze website, find your canceled reservation, select “View Options” and select a new flight. You can rebook your Breeze flight any time in the 14 days following your canceled flight. The new flight just has to be to and from your original departure and arrival destinations.

How to get a refund

Refunds look a little different. If you only want a refund for one leg of your flight — say if it was your return flight that was canceled — you can request a refund via Breeze’s Refund Request form, which is available online. There will likely be a link in your email, too, if you opted to receive flight updates that way. Keep in mind that refunds may take up to a week to process.

If you want to cancel your whole trip and request a refund for the entire journey, you can do so online or in the Breeze app. Just find your canceled flight under the “My Trips” section, then scroll down to “refund trip.”

Once you confirm your choice to cancel, you’ll receive a credit to your original form of payment for the cost of the ticket. That means if you paid with a credit card, you’ll get money credited back to that card. If you booked with BreezePoints, you’ll get your refund in the form of points.

Credit card and travel insurance that can get your money back

The Breeze cancellation policy doesn’t cover other travel expenses that you may have already booked or prepaid for, like accommodation, rental cars or tour tickets. If you’d like to be reimbursed for these expenses, you’ll want to consider travel insurance .

There are travel insurance policies available for every type of trip, and many will cover the entire cost of your trip if your flight gets canceled.

Some credit cards, like the Chase Sapphire Reserve® , also provide travel insurance as long as you pay for bookings with the card. However, coverage may not be as comprehensive as a full travel insurance policy, so read the fine print and know what’s covered before you count on it to protect your investment.

Breeze Airway cancellations recapped

Having your flight canceled is always frustrating, but the Breeze cancellation policy, coupled with the DOT’s refund requirement, means you’ll definitely get a refund for canceled travel if you choose not to rebook.

What You Need To Know About Breeze Airways

New airlines don’t pop up very often, and Breeze Airways is one of the newest in the U.S. The airline was founded in 2018, running its inaugural flight in 2021. The new carrier wants to shake up the low-cost aviation space and be known as the nice airline — in fact, you'll find “nice” sprinkled through its website and offerings.

So, what makes Breeze Airways nice, and is it really as nice as it would like to be?

Breeze Airways fleet

Nicest fare — breeze ascent, breeze airways routes and destinations, does breeze airways have wi-fi, breeze airways cancellation policy, breeze airways baggage policy and other fees, breezepoints value and calculations, ways to earn breezepoints, redeeming your breezepoints, do breezepoints expire, what is breeze airways.

Breeze Airways is one of the newest low-cost carriers in the U.S. The airline operates mainly in the Southeast. However, since its launch and the inaugural flight on May 27, 2021 from Tampa (TPA) to Charleston (CHS), you can now fly to Los Angeles, San Fransico, and Las Vegas with Breeze Airways.

The airline's CEO and founder is David Neeleman, who also founded Morris Air, WestJet, JetBlue Airways, and Azul Brazilian Airlines. Although headquartered in Utah, the airline has most of its hubs in Southeastern cities like Charlestown, Tampa, New Orleans, and Norfolk.

As of February 2024, Breeze Airways has 37 aircraft in operation. Breeze operates three types of aircraft as follows:

• Airbus A220-300: 20 aircraft with 60 more on order
• Embraer 190: 10 former Air Canada aircraft
• Embraer 195: 7 former Air Europa Express and Azul aircraft

One thing to note is that while the Airbus aircraft are configured for Nice, Nicer, and Nicest fare buckets, the Embraer aircraft are not. The planes are only configured for Nice and Nicer fare buckets.

Breeze Airways Fare Buckets

Breeze Airways offers three fare buckets called Nice, Nicer, and Nicest. Let's look at what each offers.

This is the entry-level fare and provides the following:

• One personal item must fit below the seat in front of you.
• Earn 2% BreezePoints on your fare.
• No change or cancellation fees.
• 24 months' validity on your voucher if you cancel your flight.

The Nicer fare bucket takes the level of service you receive up a notch, and you get everything in the Nice fare plus the following:

• One checked bag.
• One carry-on bag.
• Extra Legroom section seat.
• Earn 4% BreezePoints on your fare.

This is Breeze Airways “premium” offering and features its Breeze Ascent. The Nicest fare included everything from the Nicer fare plus the following:

• Priority boarding.
• Two checked bags.
• Breeze Ascent section seat.
• Unlimited free snacks, drinks, premium drinks, and alcohol.
• Earn 6% BreezePoints on your fare.

Breeze Airways operates routes to destinations in more than 20 states. However, a quick look at the Breeze Airways route map shows that most of the airline’s action is on the Eastern seaboard. That said, there are still many options heading out west to cities like Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Santa Ana, and both Ogden and Provo in Utah.

According to the Breeze Airways website, the airline has high-speed Wi-Fi. However, that is still being rolled out across the fleet. According to Breeze, all its A220 flights will have Viasat-powered Wi-Fi by early 2024.

The airline's Embraer aircraft do not have Wi-Fi, and by all accounts, there are no plans to install it on board. In terms of purchase and pricing, you cannot pre-book your Wi-Fi, and prices start from $5 per flight one way.

Breeze Airways has a very flexible cancellation policy, and there are no fees for cancellations or changes. You can cancel or change your flight up to 15 minutes before departure with no fees. That said, the airline only sells non-refundable tickets. This means that you will not receive a cash refund for your purchase. If you cancel your flight, you will receive a flight credit in BreezePoints, covering your fare and any add-ons.

There is one exception with cancellations. For Breeze Airlines flights canceled within 24 hours of booking and at least seven days before the scheduled departure date, Breeze will refund the total amount for your purchase to the original form of payment.

Breeze Airways has a pretty standard baggage policy. When flying on its Nice (economy) fare, fees are as follows:

• Free personal item. It must fit under the seat.
• $30 for flights that are under 3 hours long.
• $35 for flights that are over 3 hours long.

For checked bags, the pricing is as follows.

• For flights under three hours, the first bag is $35.
• For flights over three hours, the first bag is $40.
• The second bag is $55 on all flights.
• The third bag is $65 on all flights.

One thing to note is that adding a bag at the airport or through the Breeze Airways Guest Empowerment Team, there is a flat fee of $75. Therefore, if you are considering traveling with a checked bag, then a Nicer or Nicest fare is worth considering.

Seat selection will also cost you when flying with Breeze Airways. If you book a Nice fare, seats run from $10 up to $36 (that we have seen). Nicer fares include free Nicer seat selection. The cost of the seats will depend on the seat and the specific flight, as pricing is dynamic.

Free assigned family seating is offered when you fly with children between the ages of 2 and 12. Family seating includes two adults for one child. When more than one child is traveling, family seating will include one adult per child.

Breeze Airways Rewards Program

The BreezePoints rewards program is a simple loyalty program that lets you earn points and redeem them at a fixed rate. Unlike other airline programs, it does not have status levels, tiers, or other related complications.

The program uses BreezePoints as its currency, earned and redeemed for various activities, including flights, add-ons, and more.

To begin earning BreezePoints, you'll need to sign up for a free Breeze Airways loyalty account, which you can do here . Breeze Airlines makes signing up by allowing you to use your Facebook, Apple, or Google login to auto-fill your information.

If some of the information on your social media profile is different than what's shown on your legal ID, you can easily hop onto your Breeze profile and update it. Your information on your ticket must match your legally issued ID, due to TSA regulations, you'll want to make sure everything matches.

The next step to earning BreezePoints is to download the app.

BreezePoints have a fixed value when it comes to earning or redeeming. If you are familiar with the points and miles world, it is no surprise that BreezePoints are valued at (drum roll) 1¢ per point!

That means that Breeze works out everything to do with earning points in cents. For instance, if you earn 4% on a specific item that costs $100, it means you will earn 400 BreezePoints (4% of 10,000 cents).

The same applies to redeeming. If you want to use your points to pay a $50 portion of your fare, you will need to spend 5,000 points.

Earning BreezePoints is straightforward, and the rate at which you earn depends on your fare class. BreezePoints are earned at the following rates:

• Nice fares earn 2% of the base fare.
• Nicer fares earn 4% of the base fare.
• Nicest fares earn 6% of the base fare.

You also earn BreezePoints for ancillary services like checked bags and seat selection as follows:

• Carry-on and checked baggage purchases earn 4%, excluding overweight and oversized baggage charges.
• Seat selection purchases earn 4%.
• Pet-in-cabin purchases earn 4%.

One thing to note is that not all of your purchases will earn points, and the following items are excluded:

• Government taxes or fees.
• Travel insurance.
• Excess baggage services

You can redeem your BreezePoints at a rate of 1¢ per point. Points can be redeemed against a wide range of items, including fares, taxes, seat selection, baggage fees, pet fees, and more.

Unlike traditional airline loyalty programs, where you have to search and find award availability, you can redeem your points for any booking. To redeem your points, proceed with a regular booking. On the summary page, you will see the total amount owed and the option to apply some or all of your BreezePoints to the checkout. If there's a seat available, you can pay for it with points.

You can choose how many points to redeem, giving you the option to cover the whole cost of the fare or just part of it.

Your BreezePoints are valid for 24 months from the date they are issued; after that, they expire. You cannot extend the validity of your BreezePoints or reinstate them once they have expired. If you make a booking using your BreezePoints and then cancel it, the refunded points expiration will revert to the original date. However, you can use your points to book a flight that is past the point expiration date. You just need to use them by the expiration date.

Breeze flight credits, which are issued after canceling a reservation or add-on item, are also valid for 24 months from the date of issue. Similar to BreezePoints, if you cancel a reservation made using flight credits, the returned credits will have the same expiration date as the original ones.

Low-cost carriers can be an excellent choice if you want to get from point A to point B without many frills and treats. However, low-cost carriers can be frustrating when considering that everything has an additional cost.

By all accounts, Breeze seems interested in flipping this image on its head and is branding itself as a nice airline. It offers good options in a no-frills package without the hassles usually associated with flying low-cost carriers. If this “nice” approach is successful, maybe other carriers will follow suit and start hassling passengers less about every possible upgrade and spending option during the trip.

I had to cancel a flight and have a credit. Can I give the credit $ amount away, or can it only be used by me?

Hello. Apparently my and guest’s return First Class flight from Las Vegas NV (LAS) back to Hartford CT (BDL) wasn’t First Class…the stewardesses forwarded me the link for a refund or credit. Currently the web site mentioned flight ‘cancellation’…I’m not opting to cancel…simply get a credit or a refund due to fact return flight wasn’t First Class. I’m cautious & skeptical about ULCCs, but I do like that they’ve picked my present hometown of Charleston SC as a focus city with nonstops to CAK and PIT, both of which are a 1-hour drive from my boyhood hometown of Youngstown OH!

Feels similar to Canada’s Flair Airlines. I hope that they are successful. Good for competition in the airline industry.

$5 in points for downloading the app – sounds reasonable. If they ever flew to JAX, I’d consider them.

Odd selection of cities for an initial route network, very curious to see where they go from here. Their strategy looks like a hodgepodge of JetBlue, Southwest & Spirit policies with a really non-compelling rewards program – where’s the big credit card sign on bonus to jump start your points balance? Points expire after 24 months? Really? Wow….point expiration should really be going the other way….curious to see how DL, AA and WN react to this new upstart competitor.

You forgot to mention Breeze’s draconian labor policies, which is why I won’t fly them no matter how cheap they are. The reason the airline is cheap is because they pay the workers not enough to live off of.

As long as there are no middle seats, I wouldn’t waste money on seat selection. Interesting they are based in Utah but don’t fly there. Interesting to watch their progress.

Simplicity in their frequent flyer program is a plus, but no routes in the West where I live.

Nice to have another airline after so much consolidation these past several years. I hope they add Philly to the list of cities.

Flying transcontinental with a low-cost carrier can be a surprisingly comfortable and enjoyable experience. Breeze Airways is a relatively new airline building out its route network with many services that connect smaller regional airports such as Providence, Hartford and Norfolk with major airports out west like Los Angeles (LAX), San Francisco (SFO) and Las Vegas (LAS).

When I heard the airline would launch a Raleigh-Durham (RDU)-to-LAX route, I booked a seat onboard the inaugural flight to see how Breeze’s transcontinental experience compares to flying with a legacy carrier. You can snap up one of Breeze’s Nicest fares (complete with the Breeze Ascent domestic-first-class-equivalent seat) from just $285 on this route from Raleigh to LAX. The price includes two checked bags, a carry-on and priority boarding.

In markets where Breeze is the only airline operating—such as between Norfolk and LAX—it is fliers’ only nonstop option. However, American Airlines and Delta also operate nonstop services on the RDU-to-LAX route I flew.

The cheapest premium-cabin equivalent with one of the legacy carriers comes in at around $526—almost double that of Breeze. Neither American Airlines nor Delta offers lie-flat seats on this route, but Breeze’s recline is 39”, at least one inch more than the premium cabins of the 737s the legacy carriers operate.

So, given that Breeze’s Ascent seat is arguably superior, is it worth paying upwards of $241 for lounge access and a basic meal with a legacy carrier? Let’s take a look.

Boarding and Cabin

The gate area was crowded as we waited for the jet to arrive from Hartford, as Breeze Ascent passengers don’t receive lounge access included with their tickets. (RDU doesn’t have a Priority Pass—or equivalent—lounge either.)

The cabin of this less-than-a-year-old Airbus A220 was light, bright and more spacious than I had imagined this narrow-body would be. Some may prefer to fly wide-body jets on cross-country routes for extra space, but I didn’t feel cramped or uncomfortable on this aircraft. The jet had three rows of Breeze Ascent seats in a 2-2 configuration, which preceded the rest of the cabin’s economy seats in the A220’s unique 3-2 setup.

Overhead bins were large enough to place carry-on wheel cases on their sides, which meant optimum space. Regrettably, no complimentary pre-departure beverage was provided to accompany the first-class seating.

Flight MX540 is one of Breeze’s Breeze-Thru routes, which makes a brief stop to pick up passengers on longer journeys such as this service to LAX, which started in Hartford. A slight technical issue meant we took off 50 minutes later than scheduled. Despite this, we touched down through the gray skies of Los Angeles just five minutes later than planned.

Some of Breeze’s jets, including the one I flew on, are equipped with high-speed Viasat Wi-Fi. The plan is to install this on all its aircraft by the end of 2024.

Unfortunately, the Wi-Fi was not functional during my flight, which ruined my plan of completing a full day of work. Without access to Wi-Fi, this four-hour-and-53-minute flight felt tedious at times. When it is possible to access Wi-Fi, passengers can enjoy Breeze’s free OnBoard entertainment system, which includes a modest selection of television shows, films and games.

Food and Beverage

When I booked, I knew I wouldn’t be wined and dined. However, as a Breeze Ascent passenger, I was entitled to unlimited snacks from a basket. There were M&M’s, blueberry and pomegranate granola bars, Gardetto’s snack mix and Zapp’s potato chips. Alternatively, I could have paid $9 for a meat and cheese plate or $10 for a slightly more substantial snack box.

All drinks, including premium High Noons and sparkling wine, were included as a Breeze Ascent passenger. Crew member Sabrina ensured those seated up front were well fed and hydrated.

I was most impressed by the size, comfort and all-around high quality of the Safran Z600 seat, which measures 20.5 inches wide with a pitch of 39 inches. Granted, it wasn’t quite a Delta One lie-flat, but it was leagues above the seat you’d find on most intra-European flights.

The seat could easily be reclined, and the leg rest extended at the push of a button. Happily, the headrest was well-padded and provided excellent neck support while I napped.

I would say this was the biggest tray table I’ve ever had on a narrow-body jet—even a 15-inch or larger laptop would have fitted comfortably.

The tray table was also home to a nifty little device stand, which came in handy as Breeze has no IFE screens on its aircraft. The cherry on the cake was the multiple charging options, including a USB-C port.

The Verdict

If I lived in a city where the only option to fly nonstop cross-country was with Breeze, I would pay extra for the Breeze Ascent experience. It offers nonstop connectivity where travelers would otherwise have to fly with a legacy carrier and connect through a hub airport.

When traveling from Raleigh-Durham to LAX, I could fly with American Airlines to enjoy the benefits of my Oneworld Emerald status, such as lounge access and other perks at the airport and onboard. However, I wouldn’t pay cash for a transcon ticket with a legacy carrier. Instead, I would opt for Breeze, which costs $285 and earns BreezePoints for future flights. If you prefer bringing your own entertainment and snacks instead of a hot meal and lounges, Breeze Airways’ competitive Breeze Ascent fares are worth considering for your next trans-continental flight.

While this has never happened to me, I assumed Breeze would pay for my added costs for rebooking. These costs included last minute one way airfare , rental car extension, added meal and ground transportation as I could not get back to the airport I left from.

Breeze will not pick up any of these costs because they now say it was a weather related event. Yesterday at the airport in Charleston, as I was waiting for my new Delta flight , Breeze was announcing $200 payments for the new flight they were cancelling. When I asked Breeze why there were offering these passengers and not me, they said it was a different situation as it was not weather related.

Regarding weather, all other flights to NY that night were available for booking from the time of Breeze's cancellation all the way through travel into NY last evening.

I have contacted Breeze on FB messenger, texting, email, and social media. The only reply has been through texting and the are adamant in that no compensation is forthcoming.

My net loss because of their cancellation is $1,000. Can they really do that?

Hopefully you purchased travel insurance for this trip - you can submit your receipts to your travel insurance company.

Weather delays don't only affect the airports of arrival and departure, and Breeze may have had airframes or crew out of position elsewhere or may not have been able to position the flight from Charleston. It's frustrating and disappointing when this happens, but delays at airport A can be affected by conditions many hundreds of miles away.

What they'll have offered in irops will be in the ticket's terms and conditions. You may be able to claim on your travel insurance, and Breeze may offer a small voucher for future travel, but I doubt they'll reimburse the cost of tickets you chose to purchase from DL.

Thanks. I was always leary of travel insurance in that I figured that no matter what happened, they would find a loophole around it. Guess I was wrong.

Looking at FlightRadar24, the Charleston flight wasn't the only flight into Islip that was cancelled yesterday, but unfortunately there's no way to know the reason(s):

if you click "load earlier flights " you can see there were a few other flights cancelled, one seems to have diverted to another airport. With weather, it may not necessarily be weather at your departure or arrival airport, but something in between the two points causing an issue, or even a domino effect of scheduling/operational problems that it causes.

This is the type of situation where travel insurance may be helpful, to recoup losses from these types of delays that the airlines don't cover.

Breeze or febreze canceled my family round trip 5 days before which I have booked 45 days in advance new tickets for the same dates about 2000 more so I had to select the 4th of july because I couldn't afford to buy it on the same day and all what I got we so sorry

The OP was given the option for rebooking with Breeze but instead chose the refund option and rebooked with DL. I'm not sure why he would think that Breeze would pay the difference in costs to fly on DL since it was his choice to do so.

So, it's because of new circumstances after Covid that more people are having hassles, yes?

But- would this still happen now, do you think?

I'm asking because these posts have become quite regular, and like mentioned in #7, we all need a Plan B these days.And it seems that Plan B isn't as simple as 'just get the next flight .'

As we're almost always flying overseas only, we ALWAYS have travel insurance, and hopefully that will always help us out.

Group tours are great for solo travelers who want the camaraderie of other travelers with the same interests for shared adventures. The one downside to most group tours is the dreaded “single supplement,” where a solo traveler might be charged a supplement that can almost double the cost. From international surf trips to rainforest tours, the company offers adventure trips in 40 destinations around the world and on every continent. Group tours are led by guides specially trained by the company to provide assistance to disabled travelers, and all itineraries have been tested to make sure they’re accessible, have adaptable bathrooms and provide the best travel experience. The Costa Rica trip, for example, includes amphibious wheelchair use in Arenal’s hot springs and use of trekking wheelchairs to explore Manuel Antonio National Park.

Not all tour operators have large group tours. Audley Travel is a good example of a company that offers full-service trips that can be individualized for independent travelers. For example, I recently explored Namibia on a bucket list eight-night itinerary to four different Natural Selection safari lodges. Audley handled all the details, including international routing that was way more involved than I could have figured out on my own. I followed their itinerary, however I didn’t travel with a group, but instead with individual travelers who were following the same itinerary. (In other words, there is no tour leader and travelers are free to customize their itineraries.) In other cases, the company will create custom itineraries, and they do have some very small (around eight people) adventure mobile safari tours too.

What to look for when booking a tour company

There are a lot of tour companies out there, so it can be difficult to find the one that’s right for you, especially if you’re traveling with a group for the first time. Here are a few factors to consider as you narrow down your search.

• Cost: Because of their all-inclusive nature, tour company vacations can be more costly than traveling on a budget-friendly trip of your own. However, you get to skip the hours of research and logistics stress, which can be well worth it. Know your budget and what you’re willing to pay for versus do yourself as you plan your trip.
• Flexibility: Some tours may be scheduled at the hour, while others may offer optional excursions or free time to explore your destination. Whether you’re ready to be chauffeured around or would rather have the opportunity to strike out on your own, there’s a tour company for you.
• Special Interests: Many tours have themes that go beyond location, whether they dive into a specific era of history , focus on a certain type of cuisine, or lean into an outdoor activity. Review: Breeze Ascent A220-300, Tampa to Hartford

Breeze Ascent – The Basics

Specifically, Breeze Ascent refers to Breeze’s First Class seating . In a way, it’s similar to Spirit’s Big Front Seat . Unlike the BFS, though, Breeze does offer free drinks and snacks in Ascent. (Oddly, while “drinks” includes alcoholic beverages, “snacks” doesn’t include premium snack boxes. Only the junk food in the snack basket.) Although the “Nicest” bundle includes Breeze Ascent seats, you can can select the seats for a fee with any fare. If you pay for the Nicest bundle, you get a carry-on, 2 checked bags, and priority boarding.

So what does the buy-up look like? Looking at a random flight from Charleston to Hartford, Nicer costs $80 and Nicest $141 more than the base fare.

Meanwhile, Ascent seats run $101 with a Nice fare.

With a Nicer fare, the Ascent seats still run $101, though extra legroom seats are free.

In other words, if all you want is the seat, carefully compare the bundle price to the seat buy-up before buying. In this example, buying a Nicer fare and then selecting an Ascent seat costs $40 more than just buying the Nicest bundle.

Check-In and Boarding

Our flight from Dallas the day before came in later than expected.  Way late, as the patented AA Creeping Delay (TM) turned a 6:48 pm arrival into an 11 pm one. My son and I slept in a little, but he wanted to head to the airport to eat breakfast. So we headed over right away. I checked in online using the Breeze app, and Precheck on a Sunday morning took just a few minutes. We had plenty of time to grab coffee and breakfast at Café con Leche, and lunch for the flight at PDQ. Then, we settled in at an eerily empty gate area at C45 to await our flight. Ashok certainly seemed plenty amped up for this first weekend trip with dad.

Boarding began on time, and we headed on board with Group 1 with our Ascent seats. Note that Breeze allows all families with children under 12 to board first with Group 1. So don’t waste your money buying priority boarding when flying with the kids.

Breeze Ascent Seating and Interior

Initially, Breeze offered two configurations on the A220-300. One featured 36 “Nicest” First Class seats, 10 extra legroom “Nicer” seats, and 80 “Nice” standard Economy seats. The other featured 10 Nicest seats, 45 Nicer seats, and 80 Nice seats. Recently, however, Breeze reconfigured all A220s in the slightly denser configuration. For those flying Ascent, this means 10 Safran Z600 seats in a 2-2 configuration. Seat pitch measures 39″, with 20.5″ of width. That’s actually more generous pitch than typical domestic First products, which usually feature 36-37″ of pitch.

This aircraft, put in service just 10 days prior to our flight, certainly had that new plane look and smell. Breeze outfits its Ascent seats in grey leather with blue headrest trim. Small touches like the neon blue mood lighting in the armrest give the cabin a fresh, bright feel.

The A220-300’s oversized windows give the cabin an exceptionally airy feel.

Purple mood lighting also graces the ceiling by the fuselage.

With the half walls, the seats somewhat resemble the new First Class seats on Delta’s A321neo . Unlike the neo, though, Breeze’s seats don’t include the winged headrest for additional privacy.

Legroom felt quite generous, with plenty of space to stretch out. In fact, it felt more roomy than similar domestic First products on American, Delta, or United. Overkill for this shorter flight, perhaps, but welcome for sure on a longer route like Las Vegas to Jacksonville.

The seats feature a fixed-shell design with both recline and legrest controls through separate buttons.

In fully relaxed mode, the seat provides adequate recline and room to rest your legs. Because of the fixed-shell design, reclining results in minimal disruption of the space behind you.

I found seat comfort alright on this flight. While plenty roomy, the cushioning was a bit hard, in my opinion. That left me with a bit of saddle sore at the end of this 2 1/2 hour flight. My little guy certainly found them plenty comfy, though.

As far as storage goes, the main storage is a deep console wrapping around both seats. You can easily put a tablet, phone, newspaper, etc. in here.

There’s also a pair of small cubbies in the footspace between the seat in front of you. I’m not exactly sure what you can shove in there, though. A drink holder also reveals itself above if you flip open the knob. But it’s of pretty limited utility, as it’s difficult to reach a drink in that position.

One thing that’s clearly still an issue with Breeze – they have trouble filling up their planes. This Sunday flight was half full in Ascent, about the same in the extra legroom section, and less than that in deep coach.

That’s probably the biggest thing you should keep in mind with Breeze. Their network planning seems to consist of a monkey flinging [excrement] on a wall and seeing what sticks. If it doesn’t, they’ll cancel routes with little warning. So book in advance at your own peril.

Breeze Ascent In-Flight Entertainment

At the time of my flight, IFE consisted of…nothing. WiFi wasn’t installed yet, so your choice was to bring your own, or enjoy the view out the window. This is changing, though, with Breeze installing WiFi on its entire A220-300 fleet by early 2024. The installation of WiFi also enables streaming entertainment options though the system. Breeze hasn’t finalized WiFi pricing yet, but they do promise one unique feature. Your purchase WiFi by PNR, so one price connects devices for all passengers on your reservation. That’s a legitimate enhancement I wish more airlines might try and emulate.

Anyway, all Ascent seats include a 110v outlet and USB A and C ports between seats. I like this placement on the front of the seat, as it helps keep cords from tangling in your feet.

The seats also contain a couple of device holders. With the tray table stowed, a device holder flips down from the bottom of the table.

With the tray table down, it instead flips up from the top of the table.

The problem with this setup? Your phone or tablet isn’t exactly secured tight. Jostling the tray (or a bout of significant turbulence) can send it sliding.

Breeze Ascent Food, Beverage, and Service

As mentioned earlier, Breeze offers a complimentary selection of food and beverages in Breeze Ascent. Oddly, while all alcoholic beverages are free – even the “premium” selections like cocktails – the snack boxes aren’t. You’ll just have to take junk food (or bring you own) with that Old Fashioned.

My son and I both just enjoyed a Sprite with the lunch we’d brought onboard. Ashok wanted chicken fingers, so we grabbed a box at PDQ before boarding. As far as chicken fingers go, they’re not bad. As an aside, TPA does a pretty good job of bringing local concessionaires to its concourses. Café con Leche has been a Ybor City fixture for a century, and PDQ was founded in Tampa.

And we enjoyed some bonding moments afterwards.

Frankly, I think food & beverage is one aspect where I think Breeze leaves something on the table. On the one hand, yes, it’s better than what you get with Sprit’s Big Front Seat. At least with Ascent, the fare does come with unlimited drinks and some snacks. But the exclusion of snack boxes just seems kind of silly.

I found service on this flight generally average. The FAs were friendly, though not particularly proactive. After the main snack/beverage service, there weren’t any proactive second helpings offered, though they did quickly respond to the call bell if you wanted something. Fine for a quick-ish domestic flight, in other words.

Flightseeing

After taking our seats after boarding, I spied another Breeze A220-300 at the gate next door. I really do like the A220; it’s a sleek-looking plane, and provides a great passenger experience inside.

Meanwhile a few gates down, crews were busy getting Southwest’s colorful Arizona One loaded up.

We took off to the south, which took us across the Howard Frankland Bridge heading to St. Pete shortly after takeoff. Apparently it’s being expanded and rebuilt these days.

After hooking a U-turn to head north, we passed the Gandy Bridge looking towards South Tampa. An unfortunately placed cloud covered up what would have been a nice shot of Macdill Air Force Base.

I realized after the fact that I picked the wrong side of the plane to sit on. Why? If I’d taken the other side, we might have gotten a distant view of the New York skyline as we passed to the east. Instead, we caught a brief glimpse of the Hamptons as we flew over the east end of Long Island.

Finally, on final approach to Bradley Airport, we enjoyed some nice views of Hartford as we passed to the west. In this case, a well-timed low cloud added an illusion of clouds dancing around the skyline as we descended through it.

After arriving at Bradley, I made sure to grab a photo of our beautiful, new A220 before moving on. That’s one mean looking machine seen from the front.

We then hung out in the terminal for our four-hour layover before heading back to Dallas. Unlike the flight getting us out of town, this one featured no drama, and got us home more or less on time.

Breeze Ascent Final Thoughts

Breeze Ascent certainly is a unique product in the low-cost carrier space. It’s a true First Class seat with more premium class features than competing products like the Big Front Seat. So what’s the value proposition? For $100, it’s not a bad price for a much more spacious seat and some free drinks. On longer flights, though – Jacksonville to Las Vegas, for instance – the buy-up runs much more. Random winter dates price out at $270 for just the seat. I’d say that’s pretty steep.

Breeze Easy Visa Credit Card review

A loyalty program is key to repeat business, and Breeze is offering its frequent flyers even more with the debut of a new travel rewards credit card. While the Breeze Easy Visa Credit Card isn’t for everyone, it provides plenty of value for the right cardholder.

You can earn up to 10 points per $1 on Nicer Bundles, Nicest Bundles and trip add-ons (5 points per $1 when the flight is purchased, plus 5 points per $1 once the flight is completed), up to 4 points per $1 on Nice Bundles (2 points per $1 when the flight is purchased, plus 2 points per $1 when flight is completed), 2 points per $1 on eligible grocery store and restaurant purchases (including inflight food and beverages and 1 point per $1 on other purchases.

In other words, you can get up to a 10% return on eligible Breeze purchases.

Your BreezePoints never expire as long as you have the card, and you can redeem them at a flat 1-cent-per-point rate for flights and other traveler extras such as checked bags and seat assignments.

But with an $89 annual fee, you’ll need to crunch the numbers to see if the card will provide enough value to justify the cost.

The card offers benefits you’d expect from any airline credit card , such as access to priority boarding for the cardholder and companions on the same reservation. • No free bags: Airline credit cards typically come with a free checked bag, but this card does not waive the cost of checked bags. 
• BreezePoints are worth 1 cent apiece: While Breezy Rewards is a straightforward program, there’s no opportunity for outsized value, as with other frequent flyer program currencies.
• Full rewards only after your flight : With the card’s earning rate, you’ll earn half of the BreezePoints when purchasing the flight and the other half after the flight is complete. 

Breeze Easy Visa Credit Card rewards

Perhaps the most eye-catching feature of Breeze’s first-ever credit card is the ability to earn huge rewards on eligible Breeze Airways purchases. Let’s take a closer look at how the rewards break down:

Cardholders can earn up to 10 points per $1 on Nicer Bundles, Nicest Bundles and trip add-ons (5 points per $1 when the flight is purchased, plus 5 points per $1 once the flight is completed), up to 4 points per $1 on Nice Bundles (2 points per $1 when the flight is purchased, plus 2 points per $1 when flight is completed), 2 points per $1 on eligible grocery store and restaurant purchases (including inflight food and beverages and 1 point per $1 on other purchases.

New applicants can also earn 50,000 BreezePoints after spending $2,000 in the first 90 days of account opening. 

Using government data and other publicly available information, we estimate that a household in the U.S. that would be in the market for this card has around $25,087 in annual expenses that can be charged to a credit card. 

We assumed the example cardholder purchased flights at the base-level ticket (Nice fare class). Here’s how our sample household’s rewards could break down:

Cardholders will earn BreezePoints through the Breezy Rewards program. In this example, the cardholder earned 37,119 points from card purchases, worth $371.19 for Breeze flights, baggage fees, seat assignments, and more. 

Breeze Airways is not part of an airline alliance, nor does it have any partnerships, except with new partner Priceline. You can only redeem your points for Breeze-related purchases, meaning there’s no opportunity to maximize rewards on other airlines. This is a key consideration if you want to apply for the Breeze card. 

Breeze Easy Visa Credit Card perks

An airline credit card is best suited to those who fly almost exclusively with the carrier, and the Breeze Easy Visa is no exception. Cardholders get the major advantage of free inflight Wi-Fi, saving them and companions on the same reservation $8 each way.

Furthermore, cardholders and their travel companions on the same reservation get Group 1 priority boarding. That means you’ll have first dibs on precious overhead bin space. The more you fly, the more value you’ll get from these benefits. 

In addition, cardholders get the chance to earn 7,500 bonus points each anniversary year after spending $10,000 in purchases. Those BreezePoints are worth $75 — nearly the cost of the annual fee — adding even more ongoing value. 

Although the airline has no international flights, the Breeze Easy card is a keeper for traveling abroad because there are no foreign transaction fees. It’s a Visa Signature card, which comes with complimentary travel insurance perks such as trip cancellation and interruption insurance, baggage delay coverage and more.

Breeze Easy Visa Credit Card drawbacks

One crucial feature the card is missing: a free bag benefit. Most airline credit cards will waive the cost of the first checked bag as a cardholder-exclusive perk. This could be a dealbreaker for some travelers.

At the lowest fare classes, Breeze only allows for one free personal item that must fit under the seat. The airline also operates on a dynamic bag pricing model, so the cost of a carry-on and checked bag will vary slightly depending on your flight route. 

While this may disappoint, remember that BreezePoints can be redeemed for extra charges, including bag fees. For instance, you can use 3,500 BreezePoints to wipe out a $35 carry-on bag charge. And, if you’ve booked a higher fare class (Nicer or Nicest), the cost of bags is included in the ticket bundle.
