Local Living Italy—Sorrento

This tour is a great experience in regards to staying on a working farm. The accommodation, meals and staff at the farm were amazing. Luigi is so fun, helpful and informative. The limoncello and pizza making were excellent. We were lucky enough to be part of a wonderful group of tours it’s who really had fun together. The sailing around Capri is one of the best experiences we have ever had. Our tour guide was simply one of us, laughing,travelling and with us on nearly all excursion. It’s not easy to get into Sorrento so be prepared for that. The blue grotto option is almost impossible in high season so rule that out too. Enjoy the farm stay, the food, the people and the experience!

Sail Italy: Procida to Amalfi

The tour was wonderful! The boat was comfortable and spacious. The tour was well organized for timing and itinerary. We also had an unexpected surprise: we saw dolphins! Paolo was the perfect guide: he was always available, funny and responsible. He showed us the best of the Amalfi Coast! I would suggest this tour for everyone who needs to rest.

This tour was an incredible experience! Our tour guides, Giovanni and Anastascia, were so welcoming, kind and helpful. I enjoyed everything they shared about Italy and the Amalfi Coast. They went above and beyond. The places they took us to were amazing as well- Capri, Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi, and Naples. The value of this trip is well worth the cost. Be prepared for a fair bit of walking/exercise. I would highly recommend!

My group and I loved our tour package. The hotels were very nice and well-located. The rooftop views from the Naples hotel were spectacular, and we loved the spa and pool at our Sorrento hotel. Our tour guides gave us fantastic historic and current context to the areas we toured, from Naples to Pompeii to the towns of Amalfi and Capri. They were personable and very flexible to accommodate the sites we most wanted to explore.

We had a great 5-day sailing tour with Sail and experience. The boat was nice and clean. Skipper Anzo was cool and friendly. Organizer Claudia was also kind and helpful. They helped us to arrange transportation between Napoli and the Marina. We sailed along the Amalfi coast, visited Capri, Positano, and Sorrento. The itinerary was well planned so the trip was really relaxing and enjoyable. We were neither rushing to a place nor spending too much time on one spot. The hike on the Path of Gods arranged on the third day was nice. It was an easy hike. Unfortunately it was a foggy day, otherwise the coastline view would be more stunning. Personally will definitely come back to hike on a sunny day in the future. Wish it was a 6-day sail instead of 5-day so we would be able to visit Amalfi and Ravello. Overall great tour and highly recommended. :)

Hotel room was large and comfortable = 5* Hotel location was difficult : NO buses, NO subway close by. We had to walk a LOT , even to reach meeting points for daily tours !! (2*) Staff was VERY friendly and helpful. (5*) TOUR to POMPEI / VESUVIO was excellent, considering the conditions... Excellent LUNCH and wine testing (5*) We did the VESUVIO hike, all the way to the TOP ! (5*) TOUR of NAPOLI was good. / We saw many more places, and took the subway (5*) Note : we had problems with the street food . Difficult to find good, relaxing places to have dinner in NAPOLI. ..Next time we will consult a TOUR GUIDE BOOK.

There isn’t enough time in the day to talk about how amazing of a trip we had traveling with Riccardo to Italy! He makes you feel so welcome and like you’re a part of his family when you travel with him. We never had to worry about anything. If we wanted to go to eat (because when in italy it’s all about the food and wine) he gave us the best recommendations. If we wanted history he made it happen. Truly an amazing host and someone that I fully respect and trust. I will continue to travel with him because he’s simply the best at what he does.

Your day starts in easiest possible way, as a driver picks you up from your hotel to take you to the Port of Sorrento. After meeting your captain and friendly local tour leader, along with your small group of shipmates for the day, you’ll set off across the calm waters of the Mediterranean towards Capri by boat. You’ll visit the famous caves that surround the island, including the exclusive Blue Grotto, and will have plenty of time to stroll around Capri and enjoy a leisurely lunch. Cruise to Capri

Sit back and relax as the boat cruises along the coast of the Bay of Naples. As Sorrento disappears from view, you'll approach the eye-catching island of Capri—known as one of Italy's most luxurious destinations.

One of your first views will be the ruins of Tiberius' Imperial Palace. The second emperor in Roman history lived in Capri during the tumultuous days of his reign. Your tour leader will tell the story of how the Roman Empire almost collapsed just a few years into Tiberius' rule.

You'll continue to Marina Grande, the main fishing village of the island, where tiny fishing boats and bright houses give off the warm local energy that made Capri famous. You'll be returning to Capri later on to explore at your own pace, and your local crew will have plenty of recommendations to offer.

The Blue Grotto and Capri's Famous Caves

One of the highlights of Capri is the abundance of beautiful natural caves along the coast, locally known as "grottoes."

The exclusive Blue Grotto is a true world wonder. With natural light shining through at the perfect angle, the reflection onto the pure blue waters illuminates the entire cave in a stunning hue of royal blue.

Tourist numbers are tightly controlled here, so tickets are required to hop on one of the approved rowboats that enter the Blue Grotto. Just make sure to bring the €14 entry fee in cash for each person in your group and enjoy a dazzling ride through this one-of-a-kind cultural site.

Later in the afternoon, as you sail around the island, you'll stop to visit the Marvelous Grotto, White Grotto, and Green Grotto.

Explore the Island of Capri

Arriving in Marina Grande, your boat will dock in the marina and you'll have a 4 to 5 hours to take in this charming little island at your own pace. Your crew will be happy to tell you where to get the best past, pizza and seafood for lunch, and you can stroll through the cobblestone streets to your heart's content.

You may decide to take the funicular (tram) through the lemon groves to Capri Town, where you'll find most of the designer shops, or you can simply take a walk and find one on the many incredible viewpoints on the island. After a few hours of free time, head back onto the boat for the final stretch of your day at sea.

A Day of Swimming, Snorkeling, and Relaxation

Throughout the afternoon, there will be plenty of chances to jump in the warm Mediterranean waters for a dip, or you can choose to snorkel and explore the reefs and caves. (Bring your own snorkel gear or purchase onsite.) With beer, wine, and soft drinks included on board, enjoy a relaxing cruise in one of the world's most beautiful settings.

Upon returning to Sorrento, our driver will be ready to take you back to your hotel after a full day of exploring Capri. Ciao!

Great boat tour and guides

Our trip was the boat tour to Capri with a stop to Blue Grotto. Boat staff were great! They helped us secure a van to Anacapri. They go beyond what is in the itinerary which was fun. They also helped us secure a better boat for blue grotto at 28 euro per person instead of the original boat that wanted 43 euro person. The grotto is a brutal business so ask your skipper if they help you hustle a fair price at the grotto. The views were amazing. They took us to amazing scenic spots for viewing and swimming (e.g. love tunnel and waterfall). We went on other boat tours so we can say our boat for this tour was well stocked and generous ;-) we tipped well after an amazing day.

Manuel and Nino were awesome!

The boat tour itself was an awesome experience, but Manuel and Nino made it over the top! Manuel was super friendly and made the tour fun! And I have never seen Anyone maneuver a boat like Nino! Super impressed and it’s a must do when in Sorrento!

We loved our experience on this boat tour of Capri. Our captain and crew were awesome and very knowledgeable of the island. We were fortunate to get to go in the Blue Grotto which was incredible! Capri was beautiful and the water is amazing!! Highly recommend!!

What to bring?

Bring a swimsuit and sunscreen. For the Blue Grotto, bring some cash to tip the dedicated skipper (not your day skipper) who will lead you into the cave.

Is lunch included with this tour?

A full lunch isn't included with this tour, although plenty of snacks and drinks will be available while you're on the boat. At lunchtime, you'll be exploring Capri island independently, but the crew will be more than happy to tell you about some great local lunch spots!

What if I have concerns about my mobility?

You'll need to be able to get on and off a boat, of course, but all swimming and snorkeling activities are entirely optional. Your time on Capri island is free, so you can decide for yourself what itinerary is manageable.

Do I have to pay to enter the Blue Grotto?

Since access to the Blue Grotto is limited, tickets must be purchased in cash at the departure point for the Blue Grotto. Please bring €14 in cash for each person in your group if you would like to be guided into this exclusive cave.

Do I have to bring my own snorkeling gear?

For hygiene reasons, snorkeling equipment is no longer shared among customers. You are welcome to bring your own snorkeling gear or purchase it at the office before you depart for Capri (€20 for snorkel and mask).

Will I be picked up at my start time?

Prior to your tour, you'll receive a notification of when to expect to be picked up, if your hotel is in the approved pickup areas. This often starts up to an hour before the official start time so that you have as much time as possible to enjoy the day in Capri.

Arrive in the picturesque city of Sorrento and check into your hotel – the Imperial Hotel Tramontano. The grand Imperial Hotel Tramontano is a four-star property, perched on the clifftops overlooking the Bay of Naples. Throughout its history, the hotel has hosted an array of celebrity authors including Shelley, Byron and Keats. Settle into this historic property and take in the gorgeous views across the bay from the terrace, with a glass of local wine in hand. You may want to take this time to explore your local surroundings too, as the hotel sits just minutes away from the town’s main piazza.

Spend the day exploring Sorrento, your day will start with a small group private tour with a guide. Marvel at its elegant architecture in the shade of tropical citrus trees, and discovering its fascinating history. Founded by the Greeks in the 6th Century BC, it has been ruled by several empires, including the Samnites, the Romans and Byzantines, and includes a fascinating mix of cultural heritage. Explore the town’s winding streets and meander through its atmospheric piazzas. Along the way, enjoy the chance to sample some of the city’s most delicious produce, including pizza, gelato and Sorrento’s famous limoncello, a liquor made from its zesty lemons.

After a traditional Italian breakfast at your hotel, not forgetting a delicious cup of caffè, you’ll head out towards the UNESCO World Heritage Listed Amalfi Coast. Travel along what is often touted as one of the world’s most beautiful drives, where the road hugs the rugged coastline and quaint villages tumble down the mountainside towards the azure blue of the sea. First, you will drive by and admire Positano, one of the more famous towns on the Amalfi Coast with its collage of ice cream coloured houses. Next, make a stop in Amalfi and be greeted by the sight of its grand Arab and medieval Roman cathedral. The last stop on the tour is the attractive town of Ravello, well known for its lush gardens, which cascade down the cliffside like green waterfalls.

Today you’ll have a free day to really get to know Sorrento and explore further or simply relax. Head out to visit one of the city’s top sights, such as the beautiful Villa Comunale, one of the most historic parks in southern Italy. Art lovers may want to visit the Museum Correale, filled with artwork and historic artefacts from past centuries. Don’t miss a visit to the Piazza Tasso, where you’ll find a magnificent 15th Century cathedral and the rabbit warren of charming streets which branch off it.

Spend the day travelling back in time in the city of Pompeii on an expert led tour. One of Europe’s most celebrated archaeological sites, Pompeii was buried under a layer of magma from the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. In its heyday, Pompeii was one of the most important settlements in the Roman civilization, giving you a fascinating sense of times long gone by. Next you will visit the magnificent peak of Mount Vesuvius, standing at 1,281m high. Make sure you take comfortable shoes and a lightweight jacket (it's quite cold at the top!)

Today you will take the ferry over to visit the nearby picturesque island of Capri. Travel to Capri town centre and begin your walking tour, which will take you through the main sights. Visit colourful Augustus Gardens and take in the spectacular views of the bay, as well as Piazza Umberto, or The Little Square. This is the ideal place to relax with a coffee as you watch the world go by. Take an optional boat ride into the magical Blue Grotto, see the ruins of the Roman palace at Villa Jovis, there is also take a chairlift up to the island’s highest peak.

The last day of the trip is free for you to spend exactly as you please. This is your chance to relax or explore further with one of our day trips

We happened to have our tour on a very rainy day and he arranged things so we had multiple tastings at each location—keeping our family dry as possible while he ran and brought us back food. Fabulous day trip to Amalfi Coast

"We had a wonderful and relaxing day with Mariagrazia as she drove us to see the towns along the Amalfi Coast. We met up with her at the Central Naples train station and then headed to Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi where we wandered a bit I. Town and enjoyed a delicious seaside lunch and Ravello, where we toured the Villa Rufala which to me was the most beautiful location. She gave us lots of information along the way about the culture, the history, the sea and land, the food, seems like everyone knew her everywhere we stopped as well, which was fun. Heading back we stopped in the side of the road for the best lemon ice I’ve ever had. And she helped my husband find the sunglasses he was hoping to buy while in Italy nearby, too.
