PGA TOUR Canada Announces 2023 Qualifying Tournament Schedule
Courtesy Press Release
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Florida — PGA TOUR Canada announced Wednesday it will hold six Qualifying Tournaments to determine Tour membership for the 2023 season, with registration beginning Monday, January 9, 2023, at noon EST.
The Tour will hold five Qualifying Tournaments in the U.S., beginning in late-February, and conclude with its final qualifier in Canada at BC's Crown Isle a week before the Tour’s regular season, its ninth in history, begins.
PGA TOUR Canada completed its season in September, crowning the Fortinet Cup Points List leader – Edmonton’s Wil Bateman – as Player of the Year.
Bateman became the inaugural winner of the Fortinet Cup after winning twice in 2022 and is now a fully exempt member of the Korn Ferry Tour for the 2023 season. Players hoping to follow in Bateman’s footsteps can begin by earning PGA TOUR Canada membership, with playing spots available at the six Qualifying Tournaments. Players can access the registration site here . “We are coming off a remarkably successful season, and we will continue to build on that momentum in 2023. The first steps are at our Qualifying Tournaments, where players can get on the path that will take them to their ultimate destination, which is the PGA TOUR,” said PGA TOUR Canada Executive Director Scott Pritchard.
“Through the years, we’ve been fortunate that so many players are interested in pursuing their professional dreams by playing on PGA TOUR Canada. We anticipate there will be strong demand by players to come to our Tour, as players know about the quality of courses, the cities we visit and the caliber of competition PGA TOUR Canada offers.” The qualifiers begin with two tournaments in Florida (Weston and Howey-in-the-Hills) on consecutive weeks in late-February, early March. The action starts February 21-24 at The Club at Weston Hills’ Tour Course, as it hosts a Qualifying Tournament for a second consecutive year.
The Howey-in-the-Hills tournament is at historic Mission Inn Resort and Club, a long-time host of both PGA TOUR Canada and PGA TOUR Latinoamérica tournaments. It has hosted six previous PGA TOUR Canada qualifiers. The following week, the RTJ Golf Trail at Highland Oaks in Dothan, Alabama, is the site for a third consecutive year. A month later, the qualifiers move west, with events at Wigwam Golf Club in the Phoenix suburb of Litchfield Park, Arizona (April 4-7) and at Soboba Springs Golf Course in San Jacinto, California (April 11-14). Notable PGA TOUR members to emerge from these sites in recent years include Cameron Young (medalist at Dothan in 2020), Will Zalatoris (runner-up at Wigwam Golf Club in 2019), Alex Smalley (T3 at Howey-in-the-Hills in 2020), Hayden Buckley (T4 at Wigwam Golf Club in 2019), Carson Young (T7 at Howey-in-the-Hills in 2020) and Philip Knowles (T9 at Howey-in the-Hills in 2019). Bateman finished T5 at the Wigwam Golf Club site in 2021, retained membership for 2022 via the points list and won the Fortinet Cup with his two-win season. The final Qualifying Tournament is set for June 6-9 in Courtenay, British Columbia. Crowne Isle Resort and Golf Club has previously hosted seven Qualifying Tournaments. PGA TOUR Canada’s season begins the week after this Q-School. Here is a look at the six tournaments that will all be 72-hole, Tuesday-to-Friday, no-cut events:
“This is a great lineup of tournaments that will test players’ skills and abilities. Those who emerge with Tour cards will have another strong PGA TOUR Canada schedule to play in 2023, with a chance to continue progressing in their professional careers,” Pritchard added.
Among player benefits available, a three-time winner on the Tour would earn automatic promotion to the Korn Ferry Tour. Additionally, the top five players on the 2023 Fortinet Cup Points List will receive 2024 Korn Ferry Tour membership, with the player finishing first earning fully exempt status.
The top five players will also be exempt into the Final Stage of the 2023 PGA TOUR Qualifying Tournament, competing for a PGA TOUR card, which will be awarded to top-five finishers and ties. Those in the sixth-through-25th Fortinet Cup positions are exempt into the Second Stage of the 2023 PGA TOUR Qualifying Tournament.
In addition, the top 60 players on the final Fortinet Cup standings will retain their PGA TOUR Canada playing privileges for 2024.
PGA TOUR Canada will announce its complete regular season schedule in early 2023.

Korn Ferry Tour Q-School wrap-up
The 2021 season of the Korn Ferry Qualifying Tournament season saw several worthy players take their shot at advancing through pre-qualifying, First and Second Stage and Final Stage at various sites across the country. The final stage of Q-School was contested at The Landings Club in Savannah, Ga from Nov. 4-8.
American Zack Fischer became the first two-time medalist in the modern era (since 2013) of the Korn Ferry Tour Qualifying Tournament’s Final Stage, breaking a four-way tie for medalist honors with a 12-footer for birdie on the 72nd hole. Fischer watched as final-group playing partner Andrew Kozan’s 8-foot birdie putt slid past the cup, thus securing his second Final Stage win. The 32-year-old Texan carded a 2-under 69 Monday on The Landings Club’s Marshwood Course and finished at 14-under par.

PGA Tour Canada Set for First Q-School Event of 2022
The Tour Course at Weston Hills in Weston, FL is set to host the first leg of Q-School for the PGA Tour of Canada on Tuesday-Saturday. The 7046 yard, par 72, Robert Trent Jones, Jr. design is set to see 115 competitors scheduled for 72-holes of play. The four-round event does not have a cut.
PGA Tour of Canada is the first rung on the ladder to the PGA tour. Top players at each of the seven Q-school events will win exemptions into PGA Tour Canada’s summer tournament schedule, with Q-school medalists gaining full exemptions for the tour’s 2022 season.
The top-5 players in the PGA Canada’s Order of Merit will be promoted to the Korn Ferry Tour for 2023. The Korn Ferry Tour is one step below the PGA Tour and its top players graduate to that tour.
Canada Tour Q-schools draw strong fields with international competitors, including several with professional experience. One Canadian competitor at Weston Hills who will draw a lot of attention is Cougar Collins of Caledon, Ontario. Collins won the 98th Ontario Men’s Amateur Championship in August 2020
The NCAA Division I golfer is a student at Eastern Michigan University. Collins is teed off at 8 a.m. Eastern on Tuesday’s first round. Tee times begin at 7 a.m. daily with each round anticipated to be complete by about 5 pm.

McCain Is Medalist at Mackenzie Tour Canada Q-School
COURTENAY, BC, Canada -- Andrew McCain is a Tennessee native who played college golf for Maryland, but he has also lived in Texas, Florida, Colorado -- and Australia. He's spent time in Northern Minnesota, and had a couple of stints in the Twin Cities. And now he'll get a chance to tour Canada this summer, after claiming medalist honors in the Mackenzie Tour's Canada Q-School. He sealed the deal with a 2-under-par 70 on Friday at the Crown Isle Resort course. That gave him a 72-hole total of 272 (16 under) and a three-stroke victory over fellow American -- and similarly named -- Wesley McClain, who closed with a 67. Actually, the top five finishers were all Americans. Tyler Salsbury was third with a 275. Tain Lee and amateur Stephen Franken tied for fourth at 276. The Canada Q-School was the sixth and final qualifier for the 2019 Mackenzie Tour (formerly the Canadian Tour), and each of the medalists received fully exempt status for the entire season (12 tournaments). Those finishing second through 14th in the qualifiers will be fully exempt for the first half of the schedule, and those placing 15th through 40th are conditionally exempt. McCain introduced himself to Minnesota golf by winning the State Open as an amateur in 2015. In 2016, he combined with Jesse Bull to win the Minnesota State Four-Ball Championship. He skipped the State Open in 2017, but had a good excuse -- he got married on the Sunday of the Open -- then returned in 2018, as a professional, and claimed his second State Open title. He turned 25 in April. His goal, just as it is for most tournament pros, is to qualify for the PGA Tour. Earning a spot on the Mackenzie Tour is the first step toward that end. "For me," he said Friday, "it's trying to just keep working up and progressing steps. You have the Mackenzie Tour and Web.com, and then the PGA Tour." He opened the Q-School with a 69 and was tied for second after shooting 67 on Wednesday. McCain grabbed the lead with a third-round 65. He birdied the first two holes that day, but it was on the back nine where he really got going, with five birdies in the first seven holes on the way to an incoming 31. Basically, he was on cruise control in the final round, making three birdies and one bogey in the first 10 holes, and then making eight consecutive pars on the way to the club house. "I'm looking forward to fishing all over Canada," he said. "I love to fish. I'm excited to play golf, as well, but to get to see so many cool plaices, I think it will be fun." McCain was also happy about the prospect of being able to plan his schedule for the whole 2019 season. "It's great not really having to worry about when you're going to play, or where you're going to play, or if you're going to get into an event. Knowing you have a place to play the entire year is exciting." MEN'S PROFESSIONAL GOLF Mackenzie Tour Canada Q-School (The last of six Q-Schools for the 2019 Mackenzie Tour) At Crown Isle Resort (par 72) Courtenay, BC, Canada Final results 1. Andrew McCain, USA 69-67-65-70--271 (medalist is exempt for the entire 2019 season) 2. Wesley McClain, USA 70-71-66-67--274 (the 2nd- through 14th-place finishers are exempt for the first six tournaments) 3. Tyler Salsbury, USA 68-68-71-68--275 T4. Tain Lee, USA 71-70-68-67--276 T4. Stephen Franken (a), USA 70-70-66-70--276 (Players finishing 15th through 40th are conditionally exempt)

Schoolboy Q Is Going On A Quick Tour Of The US This Summer With ‘Blue Lips Weekends’
March was a major month for Schoolboy Q fans, as the rapper dropped Blue Lips , his first album since 2019’s Crash Talk . The project features collaborations with folks like Ab-Soul, AzChike, Freddie Gibbs, and Rico Nasty, and has been regarded by some critics as one of Schoolboy’s best albums yet. If that sounds like something you’d want to see live on stage, the good news is that Schoolboy has decided to take the album on tour.
The bad news is that as it stands now, he’s offering relatively limited opportunities to see it. Yesterday (April 24), the rapper announced Blue Lips Weekends , a series of concerts in July and August that, yes, take place during the weekends, allowing for a relatively relaxed touring schedule.
Information about specific venues isn’t available yet, but we do know that the tour will hit major cities like Toronto, Chicago, Atlanta, Brooklyn, San Francisco, and Seattle, among others. Tickets aren’t for sale yet, but fans can RSVP here to be notified when more information is available.
Check out the list of tour dates below.

4 things I learned from my first q-school experience: 1. It's a marathon, not a sprint: In most cases, professional mini-tour events are 1-, 2-, or 3-day events (often the 3-day events have a cut after 2-days). Poor starts require a quick turnaround and usually more aggressive play to offer any chance to place and make a paycheck that week.
