Key takeaways
- If you have a Chase credit card that earns cash back or travel points, you can use your rewards to book airfare, hotel stays, car rentals, cruises and more through the Chase Ultimate Rewards travel portal.
- Where most travel bookings through Chase offer 1 cent per point in value, premium Chase travel credit cards let you get 25 percent or 50 percent more value for your rewards.
- The Chase travel portal lets you book travel with points, cash or a combination of the two. You can even earn bonus cash back or points when you book paid travel through Chase.
Most credit card rewards programs let you redeem your points or cash back in several different ways, and this is definitely the case with Chase Ultimate Rewards . These points are some of the most dynamic and versatile among all rewards programs available today, mostly because you can redeem them for cash back, statement credits, gift cards, merchandise and travel through Chase.
Some premium travel credit cards from Chase even let you get 25 percent to 50 percent more value for points when you redeem for travel through Chase, and the same selection of cards allow 1:1 point transfers to Chase airline and hotel partners.
If you’re interested in booking travel directly with your rewards, however, you should know that this is an option for their travel credit cards as well as cash back credit cards associated with the brand. All rewards cards offered through the bank let users book travel the exact same way — through the Chase Ultimate Rewards travel portal.
To use the Chase Ultimate Rewards travel portal, you need to have a Chase credit card and an online account with Chase.com. Once you log in to your account, you only need to click on the side of the page where your rewards points are displayed to access the Chase Ultimate Rewards booking portal.
Once you click on your rewards total to get to the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal, you’ll be asked which one of your Chase card accounts you want to access. This part is important since some Chase credit cards offer more value when you redeem points for travel through Chase.
Specifically, the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card and Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card offer 25 percent more value when you redeem points for travel through Chase, whereas the Chase Sapphire Reserve® offers 50 percent more value.
Once you are logged in to your rewards account, you can see all the different ways you can redeem your points or cash back. Your options will vary depending on the Chase credit card you have, but they can include:
- Pay with points options
- Chase Pay Yourself Back
- Transfers to travel partners
- Experiences
To book travel through the Chase travel portal, you’ll click on the option that says “Travel.”
At this point, you’ll be shown all the different ways you can use your points directly for travel through Chase. These can include airfare, hotels, car rentals, experiences, cruises and more.
Using Chase Ultimate Rewards travel is a lot like booking travel through any other site given you search for the travel you want, compare prices and options and proceed by making a booking based on whatever you decide. The difference is, you can pay for airfare, hotels and other travel with Chase points, cash or a combination of cash and points.
The fact Chase lets you book with a combination of cash and points makes it really easy to use up small amounts of points you have on your card, especially since there are no minimums to redeem this way.
Who can access the portal
To access the Chase Ultimate Rewards travel portal, you need to have a credit card that earns rewards with the card issuer. This means co-branded airline and hotel credit cards offered through Chase will not work, and you’ll need a Chase credit card that earns cash back or travel rewards instead.
Credit cards that give you access to the Chase travel portal include:
- Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card
- Chase Sapphire Reserve®
- Chase Freedom Unlimited® *
- Chase Freedom Flex℠ *
- Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card
- Ink Business Cash® Credit Card
- Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card
Benefits of booking through Chase Ultimate Rewards
While many experts believe you should always transfer points to airlines and hotels before booking travel with rewards, there are plenty of reasons to use the Chase Ultimate Rewards travel portal instead — at least part of the time. Here are some of the benefits you can get for doing so.
Earn a ton of rewards when you book paid travel through Chase
While the Chase Ultimate Rewards travel portal lets you redeem points or cash back for travel through Chase, you can also pay for travel through the portal and earn more rewards when you do. The fact is, all Chase credit cards offer a minimum of 5 percent back or 5X points on travel booked through Chase Ultimate Rewards, and the Chase Sapphire Reserve offers 10X points on hotels and car rental bookings made through Chase.
You can still earn airline miles
Also note that you’ll still earn airline miles for flights you book through the Chase portal, and that’s true whether you pay with Chase points, cash or a combination of the two. In order to double dip and earn airline miles, you just need to add your frequent flyer number to your booking with the airline after you pay.
Get 25% to 50% more value when redeeming your points
As we mentioned already, some Chase credit cards offer more than 1 cent per point in value when you use rewards to book travel through Chase. Where the Chase Sapphire Preferred and Ink Business Preferred offer 25 percent more value when you redeem points for travel through Chase, the Chase Sapphire Reserve offers 50 percent more value.
Ultimately, this means you get 1.25 cents per point for travel with the Chase Sapphire Preferred and Ink Business Preferred, and 1.5 cents per point for travel with the Chase Sapphire Reserve.
Book any travel you want
Booking through the Chase travel portal also lets you avoid dealing with complex loyalty programs and limited award availability often found with hotel and airline programs. When you book travel through Chase, you get to pick from any hotel brand, airline, car rental company or travel provider that’s available for your destination and dates.
Combine your Chase points in one account
Also note that Chase lets you pool rewards from multiple cards into one account for premium travel redemptions. For example, you can earn cash back with a card like the Chase Freedom Unlimited, use a business card like the Ink Business Preferred for all your business spending and utilize the Chase Sapphire Preferred for all your travel, dining and online grocery purchases. From there, you can combine all your points into your Chase Sapphire Preferred account to get 25 percent more value when booking travel through Chase, or for 1:1 point transfers to Chase airline and hotel partners .
Is the Chase Ultimate Rewards travel portal worth using?
The Chase Ultimate Rewards travel portal is definitely worth using in a wide range of scenarios, and that’s true if you also transfer points to airlines and hotels part of the time. The fact is, the Chase portal gives you another way to book the travel you want if you cannot find award availability with an airline or hotel program, want to book travel you don’t have other points for or if you need extra flexibility due to where you’re traveling or when.
Also note that you can use Chase points to book other types of travel you can’t book with airline miles or hotel loyalty points. For example, you can use the Chase Ultimate Rewards travel portal to book airport transfers in your destination or to book snorkeling tours, guided museum tours and other excursions through the portal’s “activities” tab.
That said, there are certainly situations where the Chase travel portal is not the best deal, or when you’ll be a lot better off paying cash for travel directly or transferring points to airline and hotel partners. At the end of the day, the Chase travel portal is just one tool you can use to maximize your rewards and your travel budget.
The bottom line
Now that you know how the Chase Ultimate Rewards travel portal works, you should spend some time getting acquainted with all the ways you can use your points. The fact is, Chase lets you book airfare, hotels, rental cars, cruises, activities and more using points, cash or both, giving you a lot more flexibility when it comes to using your rewards.
Bankrate’s travel toolkit can help you learn more about Chase Ultimate Rewards points and other travel programs, so consider continuing your research there.

For qualifying Chase cardholders, the easy-to-use Chase Travel℠ portal offers a flexible and convenient way to book hotels, flights, rental cars, cruises and more using points or a combination of points and cash.
What is the Chase travel portal?
A favorite among frequent travelers for its versatility and redemption options, Chase Ultimate Rewards® (UR) is one of the major transferable credit card rewards points programs and UR points are Chase’s flexible rewards currency.
The Chase travel portal works much like an online travel agency (OTA) similar to Orbitz or Priceline where you can book hotels, flights, cars, activities and cruises. But unlike a traditional OTA, with the Chase travel portal you can book travel with your Chase card’s rewards points, cash or a combination of the two.
Who can use the portal?
A handful of exclusively Chase-issued credit cards grant cardholders access to the Chase travel portal, but how you can utilize the portal and the value you can receive is card-specific.
The following credit cards are the only cards that earn Chase Ultimate Rewards points outright:
- Chase Sapphire Reserve®
- Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card
- Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card * The information for the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card has been collected independently by Blueprint. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.
But if you or a household member own at least one of the cards above, the rewards on the following cash-back credit cards can be combined with any of the cards listed above and used as Chase Ultimate Rewards points:
- Chase Freedom Flex℠ * The information for the Chase Freedom Flex℠ has been collected independently by Blueprint. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.
- Chase Freedom Unlimited®
- Ink Business Cash® Credit Card
- Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card
And while the points earned cannot be combined with any of the UR-earning cards, the following pay-in-full card does have access to the Chase travel portal:
- Ink Business Premier℠ Credit Card * The information for the Ink Business Premier℠ Credit Card has been collected independently by Blueprint. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.
Is the portal worth using?
It’s often said that having the right travel credit card is important, but knowing how to redeem your miles and points can be as paramount as which card you use to earn them. However, not everybody has the patience or interest to learn the intricacies of different rewards programs to maximize the value of every mile and point.
So while transferring UR points to individual loyalty programs is still one of the best ways to get the most cents per point at a 1:1 basis, for those who value simplicity, the Chase travel portal offers a straightforward way to book travel, earn and redeem points and still receive a great deal. Best of all, you won’t be limited by any loyalty program or award space availability.
When transferring points, the minimum you can transfer is 1,000 points to the following UR travel partners with either the Chase Sapphire Reserve, Chase Sapphire Preferred or the Ink Business Preferred cards:
Regardless of how you’re using the Chase travel portal, it’s worth considering the pros and cons.
- The standard rate for Ultimate Rewards points when redeemed for travel through the Chase travel portal is 1 UR point = 1 cent, but can be worth significantly more with the UR-earning cards. The Chase Sapphire Reserve gets a redemption value of 1.5 cents per point through the Chase Travel℠ portal while the Chase Sapphire Preferred and Chase Ink Business Preferred cards each get 1.25 cents per point.
- Since you’re not limited to any loyalty programs, you can use your UR points to book boutique hotels that you’d otherwise only be able to book with cash.
- Flights booked through the Chase travel portal can earn frequent flyer miles and can be used toward advancing your elite status.
- You can earn a substantial amount of bonus points when booking through the Chase portal depending on the card you’re using.
- You can use a combination of points plus cash to purchase your reservation.
- Hotels booked through the Chase travel portal do not earn hotel points or credits toward elite status. Any elite status perks you’d receive if booking directly with the hotel will likely be forgone.
- If you experience any issues while traveling, you’d have to go through Chase to resolve the issue. For example, if there is a problem with your hotel reservation, you’ll have to contact a Chase representative for help resolving it since you didn’t book directly with the hotel. Dealing with a middleman during travel emergencies is less than ideal and something to be wary of when considering booking through the portal.
- Southwest Airlines flights do not show up in the UR travel portal, but can be reserved by calling the Chase Travel Center at 855-233-9462.
How to book travel through the Chase travel portal
You can access the Chase travel portal by logging into your Chase account and clicking on the Rewards balance on the right or by going to the Chase Ultimate Rewards website .
Once you’re logged in, if you have more than one UR-earning Chase card, you’ll be asked to select one to proceed with — a crucial step as each card has different earning and redemption rates.
After clicking on your selection, you will be taken to the Ultimate Rewards dashboard. If you click on the Earn / Use dropdown button, all of your Ultimate Rewards options will be presented. Click on Travel to proceed to the portal.
Once in the travel portal, you’ll have the option of selecting the type of booking you’d like to make.
From there, your user experience will be similar to any other OTA where you can search your travel options.
Because the Chase travel portal doesn’t limit you to transfer partners or loyalty programs, you’ll be able to search almost all major airlines. One notable exception is Southwest Airlines, which is still bookable using UR points but will require a phone call to the Chase Travel Center to reserve your flight.
One difference compared to a traditional OTA is the option to buy in cash, points or a combination of both.
If you’re short on points or if you’d like to offset the cash price with some points, you’re given the option to choose how to pay.
After that, you’ll be prompted to enter your traveler information and you’re all booked. However, you will have to log into the specific airline with your reservation code in order to reserve seats.
Booking hotels through the Chase travel portal is a similar process. And with the portal’s easy-to-use search function, you can find boutique hotels that would otherwise be unbookable with loyalty-program-based points.
However, if you have elite status with a hotel chain, you’ll want to book directly rather than going through the Chase portal in order to access status benefits and have that hotel stay count toward achieving a higher status. Or, you can transfer UR points to one of three UR hotel loyalty program transfer partners, including Marriott Bonvoy, World of Hyatt or IHG One Rewards.
Rental cars can also be booked through the portal in a similar fashion. And as in many cases, being aware of which card you’re booking your car rental with can make a big difference in case of an accident as both the Chase Sapphire Reserve and Chase Sapphire Preferred offer primary car insurance , an uncommon, money-saving benefit, which saves you from having to file a claim with your private car insurance carrier first.
A quick guide to the Chase Ultimate Rewards program
As some of the most sought-after flexible points, Chase Ultimate Rewards can be accrued through several avenues. The most lucrative way is by applying for Chase credit cards and earning their respective welcome bonuses — but be wary of Chase’s 5/24 rule , which blocks applicants from opening a Chase credit card if they’ve opened five or more cards from any issuer in the past 24 months.
If you have two Chase cards that earn UR points, you can then transfer the rewards earned to the card that carries the most redemption value. For example, you can open the Chase Sapphire Preferred card and then the Chase Freedom Flex and move any points earned on the Flex card to the Preferred card, which has a boosted value of 25% more when redeemed through the portal.
Looking to add more than one new credit card to your wallet? Here’s why you shouldn’t apply for multiple cards at the same time.
Outside of regular credit card spending, you can also grow your Ultimate Rewards pile by using the Chase shopping portal. By adding just one extra step to your online shopping, you can earn bonus points for your future travels.
While transferring points to partners is one option to maximize the value of your Chase Ultimate Rewards points, there are numerous other ways to use the Chase Ultimate Rewards program to your benefit. Whether it’s redeeming your points as a statement credit for eligible, rotating categories throughout the year through the “Pay Yourself Back” feature, booking special dining experiences with your points or using the portal to book your next vacation, the Chase Ultimate Rewards program’s flexibility makes it a great option regardless of your lifestyle.

Steps to redeem Chase Ultimate Rewards® for travel
Other ways to redeem ultimate rewards® points, final thoughts on redeeming chase rewards.
You’ve banked the big welcome bonus and now you’re ready to get maximum value from your Ultimate Rewards® balance. If this is your first foray into the Chase Ultimate Rewards® program , you may wonder, “How do I even redeem points?”
We’ve got you covered with a step-by-step tutorial on how to redeem Ultimate Rewards® points from Chase.
It shouldn't take more than a few minutes to master redeeming Chase points. Shopping for a wise redemption may be the most time consuming part of the process!
Here's what to do:
Log in to your Chase account.
On the right sidebar, look for the Ultimate Rewards® box and click “Redeem rewards."
If you have multiple Chase cards, you’ll be prompted to choose which card's points you'd like to redeem.
Once you're redirected to your Ultimate Rewards® dashboard, you can choose how you want to redeem your points.

Gift cards and miscellaneous purchases
In addition to travel redemptions, Chase allows you to use Ultimate Rewards® points for gift cards, purchases at Amazon and Apple, cash-back credits, experiences (e.g., concerts and events) and gift cards.
All of these other options allow you to redeem points for around 1 cent each, except for Amazon, which offers around 0.8 cent per point. That’s not as good of a deal as using points for travel bookings or transferring them to partner airlines and hotels. This is especially true for gift cards, which you can often buy at substantial discounts through retails. In general, we wouldn’t advise redeeming your Ultimate Rewards® for gift cards when they can be so much for valuable for travel.
If you find yourself wanting to redeem your points for cash-back rewards or purchases with Amazon or Apple, you may want to consider switching to a 2% cash-back card like the Citi Double Cash® Card . This card earns 2% on all purchases, 1% when you buy something and 1% when you pay it off. If you like to redeem points this way, you’ll get a better value with this card than you would with a similar Ultimate Rewards® redemption.
Transfers to airline or hotel partners
If you want to maximize the value of your Chase Ultimate Rewards®, redeem them via a transfer to a specific airline or hotel partner. This maximized value can be particularly realized when redeeming points for high-end hotel stays or business and first class award flights. Because of this out-sized value, many deem transfers as the best way to redeem Chase points.
Chase has more than a dozen travel partners to choose from. If this is how you want to redeem your points, here’s how to transfer Ultimate Rewards® to airline and hotel partners:
Click on “Transfer to travel partners” in Chase's travel portal dashboard.
You’ll see one last confirmation page before the transaction is complete. Once points have been transferred, this cannot be undone. So only transfer Ultimate Rewards® points when you’re 100% sure of your intent to use them with that partner.
Pro tip: Cross reference prices on Chase before transferring
With frequent flyer programs implementing dynamic pricing and hotel loyalty programs like Marriott introducing peak/off-peak pricing , redeeming points can get expensive. Sometimes, you can get better deals using your Ultimate Rewards® points for direct travel bookings.
If you have a Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card , your points will be worth 2.2 cents each. Chase Sapphire Reserve® cardholders get 2.2 cents of value out of each point.

It’s always worth checking the Chase's travel portal before transferring points to a loyalty program.
Here’s how you can use your Ultimate Rewards® points for direct travel bookings:
In the example above, I searched for a round-trip flight between San Francisco and Los Angeles in October. The flight prices out at a reasonable $106.60, or 8,528 points.
The same ticket requires 13,000 miles and $11.20 when booked through United MileagePlus . Clearly, checking redemption rates on direct travel bookings can be worth the effort.
The great thing about booking travel through Chase's portal is that your bookings are eligible to earn points through the respective airline programs. Just be sure to enter your rewards number during the booking process.

Many travel hackers have at least one credit card from Chase. Redeem points for travel, gift cards or other miscellaneous online shopping, or opt to transfer your points to an airline or hotel partner to maximize value. These redemptions can be made quickly from your Chase account.

Find the best credit card for you
How to use the chase travel portal, you can use chase points to book flights, hotels, car rentals and more through its travel portal..
With the right amount of planning, it's possible to book your entire vacation, including flights , hotels , cruises , car rentals , tours and other activities, entirely on points through the Chase travel portal.
But are you getting the best deal by doing this instead of transferring Chase Ultimate Rewards® points to travel partners and booking directly? It turns out there's a lot more to consider — everything from travel date flexibility and brand variety to the credit card you're using — if you want to get more value for your points by booking through Chase Travel SM .
Below, CNBC Select breaks down the best ways to book flights, hotels, cruises, tours and vacation activities through the Chase travel portal with Ultimate Rewards® points.
How to use the Chase travel portal
- How to earn and redeem Chase Ultimate Rewards points
How to get started with the Chase travel portal
How to book flights through the chase travel portal, how to book rental cars, cruises, and other travel activities, bottom line, how to earn and redeem chase ultimate rewards® points.
To access Chase Travel SM , you'll need to have a credit card that earns Chase Ultimate Rewards® points, like the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card , Chase Sapphire Reserve® , Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card , Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card , Ink Business Cash® Credit Card , Chase Freedom Unlimited® or Chase Freedom Flex℠ .
The easiest way to earn Chase Ultimate Rewards points quickly is by taking advantage of the lucrative welcome bonuses offered by certain rewards cards:
- You'll earn 60,000 points by signing up for the Chase Sapphire Preferred and spending $4,000 within the first three months of opening your account.
- With the Ink Business Preferred Credit Card 's welcome bonus, you'll earn 100k bonus points after you spend $8,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. That's $1,000 cash back or $1,250 toward travel when redeemed through Chase Travel SM.
- The Chase Sapphire Reserve 's welcome bonus gives you 60,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening.
The card you're using to redeem UR points will also affect your point redemption value . For instance, if you're using the Chase Sapphire Preferred to book through the Chase Travel SM portal, points are worth 25% more (1.25 cents per point). But if you're booking through Chase Travel℠ with the Chase Sapphire Reserve , points are worth 50% more (1.5 cents per point) — the other $0 annual fee Chase cards each carry a redemption rate of 1 cent per point.
That means the bonus points you'd earn from either the Chase Sapphire Preferred's welcome bonus is worth $750 towards travel and the Chase Sapphire Reserve's is worth $900 towards travel.
Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card
Enjoy benefits such as 5x on travel purchased through Chase Travel℠, 3x on dining, select streaming services and online groceries, 2x on all other travel purchases, 1x on all other purchases, and $50 annual Chase Travel Hotel Credit, plus more.

To reach the Chase travel portal, log into your Chase account, then click the area near the right side of the screen where it says the amount of your Chase UR points. Depending on how many Chase credit cards you have, you may be asked to choose which one you want to proceed with.
The next screen is your credit card's main dashboard, showing how many UR points you currently have, as well as any deals or bonus opportunities. On the top of the page, you'll see several menus with redemption options.
While not the best redemption in terms of overall value, you could choose to use your Chase points for Apple and Amazon purchases, cash them in for gift cards and experiences, or reimburse yourself for certain recent charges through Chase's Pay Yourself Back tool . This is also where you can transfer points directly to one of Chase's 14 travel partners if you have a specific flight or hotel in mind. Otherwise, click "book travel" to enter the Chase travel portal.
From here, you'll be able to search for flights, hotels, rental cars, activities and cruises. Simply choose your category, plug in your desired dates and details, and book with points, cash or some combination of the two.
There are a few pros and cons to consider when booking flights through the Chase travel portal. You won't have to worry about blackout dates or limited award availability, which makes it great if you're not flexible with dates and flight times. Just make sure you compare the number of points needed through the Chase travel portal with how many points the airline would require if you were using its own miles, especially if you're hunting for a good deal on economy seats.
The catch with using the Chase travel portal is you won't be able to shop for tickets on low-cost carriers like Spirit Airlines, Frontier Airlines, or Allegiant Air — you can search for flights on Alaska, Southwest, Delta, JetBlue, American, and United. You'll also be able to book flights on most international carriers.
Remember that you can still earn miles and elite credits on flights, as tickets booked through the Chase travel portal are categorized as "paid" rather than as an award flight since you're "paying" for them with points instead of cash. Consider the taxes and fees you might have to pay if you were to transfer the points straight to one of Chase's travel partners versus booking directly through the portal, and to calculate and compare how many points and miles you'd earn by booking with either method.
You'll be able to search, filter, and sort by price, airline, booking class, departure time, arrival time, and departure airport. For this example, below, consider a round-trip flight from Seattle to Austin with sample dates of Feb. 1–7, 2024, booked through the travel portal with a Chase Sapphire Preferred card (redemptions are worth 1.25 cents per point):
Results included 107 results with an economy mix-and-match United and Delta fare for $370 or about 29,600 points being the most affordable option. For comparison's sake, the points price is about the same as what United and Delta are currently charging if you were to book the awards directly through the airlines, but Delta isn't a transfer partner of Chase. You also won't earn miles if you were to book these awards through the airlines, whereas you will earn miles when booking through Chase.
To finish booking your flight through the travel portal, select your route(s), review the details, choose how many points you'd like to use and complete your purchase.
How to book hotels through the Chase travel portal
While the best redemption rates are usually realized when you transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points at a 1:1 ratio to hotel partner World of Hyatt, if you're not a huge fan of chain hotels or prefer boutiques or brands like Hilton, Choice Hotels, or Wyndham, it can be a good idea to book them through the travel portal.
As with flights, you won't have to worry about blackout dates or limited award night availability. However, keep in mind that hotels treat the Chase travel portal as a third-party booking agency, so you won't be able to earn hotel points on stays as you might by booking your stay directly with the hotel.
Hyatt hotels usually offer better deals when you book directly, and since it's one of Chase's hotel partners, you can transfer UR points instantly at a 1:1 ratio. Marriott and IHG are usually more varied, so you may score a better deal by booking via the Chase travel portal instead of transferring points over. For this reason, it's a good idea to ring up how much your hotel stay would cost in points through the portal as well as the hotel's website.
Start by searching by destination so you can see a list of all the available hotels. For this example, let's try looking for hotels in Downtown Austin from Feb. 1–7, 2024. Once the results appear, you'll be able to narrow down your search with filters based on price, star ratings, guest ratings, amenities and neighborhood.
Let's go over a couple of options within the Chase travel portal, each booked with a Chase Sapphire Preferred credit card. One option is the Four Seasons Hotel Austin, which is listed for $556 or about 44,500 points per night through Chase. If you book through Four Seasons, directly, you'll pay $561 per night. The hotel chain also doesn't have a rewards program but going through Chase provides a way to pay with points.
Another example is the Hyatt Place Austin Downtown for $288 or about 23,000 points per night through Chase. If you were to book this directly through Hyatt, you'd pay $279 per night as a member of its loyalty program or just 15,000 World of Hyatt points per night if you booked with points. Since you can transfer your Ultimate Rewards points to Hyatt at a 1:1 ratio, in this case, transferring would make more sense.
As you can see, it's worth comparing points required by the travel portal and each hotel's website, as the time of year, location, and other factors may play a part in pricing. To book your stay through the travel portal, select your room type, review the details, choose how many points you'd like to use and complete your purchase.
It's a pretty similar process if you want to book rental cars, tours and other travel activities through the Chase travel portal. Cruises can also be booked as well, but you'll need to call.
As far as car rentals, make sure you're booking through the travel portal with points that are connected to Chase Sapphire Preferred or Chase Sapphire Reserve to take advantage of extra perks like primary rental car insurance — you'll also need to decline the rental car company's auto collision damage waiver when you book to activate this. You'll want to charge at least a few dollars to the card and not use points to cover the entire booking which ensures that you're still "paying" for the car rental with your Sapphire card, which means you'll be entitled to the card's rental car insurance.
Beyond that, simply plug in your itinerary and search. Here's an example for a rental in Austin from February 1–7, 2024, booked with a Chase Sapphire Preferred credit card:
You'll be able to filter your search by capacity, car type, price per day, company, and car options (like air conditioning and automatic transmission). For a seven-day rental, it would cost around 24,800 points or $310 for the cheapest option. As with other travel portal purchases, you'll be able to enter how many Chase Ultimate Rewards points you wish to put toward the final price. It works the same way for booking tours and other travel activities, so you could potentially enjoy a free — or nearly free — vacation solely on Chase points if you were to plan it all out properly.
Booking through the Chase travel portal can be a great use of your Ultimate Rewards® points, but make sure to compare the rates against booking directly with an airline or hotel itself. Finally, consider transferring your points to one of Chase's travel partners, especially if you're looking to book a luxury hotel or flight in business class.

Guide to the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal
Chase Ultimate Rewards' perks are found in the redemption portal, but it is not always easy for cardholders to know where to begin

How we Choose
The Chase Ultimate Rewards redemption portal offers plenty of perks for cardholders. But since it offers so much, it can be difficult for cardholders to know where to start when redeeming their points. Read on to learn how to navigate the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal.
The content on this page is accurate as of the posting date; however, some of our partner offers may have expired. Please review our list of best credit cards , or use our CardMatch™ tool to find cards matched to your needs.
If you have a Chase Ultimate Rewards credit card in your wallet, odds are you’ve checked out the Ultimate Rewards redemption portal. This online portal allows users to redeem their points for travel purchases, gift cards, Apple products, Amazon.com purchases and more. And, Ultimate Rewards also offers plenty of other perks for users, from special gift-card discounts to bonus points for online shopping.
But because it has so much to offer, it can be tough to know where to start with Ultimate Rewards, especially when you are ready to redeem your points. To help you better understand the Chase Ultimate Rewards program, here’s what you need to know.
- What is Ultimate Rewards?
The Chase Ultimate Rewards program is the rewards program provided to cardholders on several Chase credit cards. It is one of the most robust travel rewards programs available, thanks to its generally high-rewards potential, flexible redemption choices and attractive partnerships with numerous travel brands.
Ultimate Rewards is also the name of the redemption portal that allows users to redeem their points for cash back, travel purchases, gift cards, online shopping and more. The portal includes a range of special promotions, from savings on hotels, car rentals and experiences to bonus points at certain retailers.
When accessing the portal, the rewards balances available for redemption are split between cards if you have more than one Ultimate Rewards card. You can also access the portal through each individual card account.
Chase allows you to transfer points between cards, so you can combine rewards earned from multiple accounts to boost your rewards budget. Some cards have a higher value when redeeming the points for travel, making transferring points between cards even more useful for certain cardholders.
When you redeem points for travel, you have the option to pay with your Chase credit card, Ultimate Rewards points or both. You can also use points to pay for part or all of a purchase you make on Amazon or Apple. No matter how you redeem your points, Ultimate Rewards is a flexible and user-friendly platform.
- Booking a trip through Chase Travel
One way to use your Ultimate Rewards points is to book travel purchases, including flights, hotels, car rentals, experiences and cruises. You can navigate to the homepage of the travel hub, now dubbed Chase Travel, through the Ultimate Rewards portal. On the homepage, you can toggle through the travel categories, search for destinations and read articles to inspire your next vacation. All bookings (other than cruises) are powered by Expedia, meaning there is a wide portfolio of options and competitive pricing across travel purchases.
Booking a trip through Chase Travel works like most other third-party booking sites but can vary a bit based on the type of purchase.
Booking flights
To book a flight, you’ll search available options by destination, travel date and number of travelers. To help you decide which trip is a good value, Chase rates each search result on a scale of 1 to 10.
The results are automatically ranked by lowest price, but you can filter the results to rank by shortest duration, earliest arrival time and other factors. You can also filter the options by the number of stops (nonstop, one stop or two or more stops), flight times, airline and more.
Booking hotels
Much like booking flights, you can book a hotel stay through the travel portal based on your travel destination and duration. You can further filter by hotel chain, star rating, Tripadvisor rating, neighborhood and other factors. Some hotel listings are even marked “sale,” which is a special hotel offer and the price could go back up.
You can also read Tripadvisor reviews directly on the portal rather than opening Tripadvisor in a separate tab to see how others like the property you’re eyeing.
Booking car rentals
Chase Travel allows users to book rental cars with several different companies through the platform. You can filter search results by car size, price level or your favorite rental company.
Booking experiences
One unique feature of Chase Travel is the ability to book activities at your vacation destination. To help users book their whole trip in one place with the flexibility of using rewards points, Chase offers experiences such as performances, city tours and spa services directly through its platform.
Booking cruises
Cruise bookings are the only Chase Travel travel category not powered by Expedia. Unfortunately, you cannot use the portal to search for cruises, like the other categories. Instead, the cruise page simply says to call the customer service line (1-866-331-0773) and speak to a representative directly.
Is booking a trip through Chase Travel worth it?
If you are an Ultimate Rewards cardholder, your points are flexible. They can even be redeemed for statement credits, allowing you to book travel on other sites and make up the cost with cash back. However, there are several benefits that come with booking directly through Chase’s platform. Before you decide how to book your next vacation, consider the following benefits.
No additional booking fees
Unlike some third-party booking sites, Chase Travel does not charge any extra booking fees on top of the fees charged by the hotel or airline. You also won’t be charged a cancellation fee for the first 24 hours after booking a flight.
Chase Travel rates compared to other booking sites
The rates on all travel purchases are competitive on Chase Travel, and in general, you won’t pay any more money by choosing to book through the portal. Take, for example, the following four-night stay at The Garland in Los Angeles.
When compared to rates listed on Hotels.com and Expedia, Chase Travel offered the same rooms at the same price.
Chase Travel also offers competitive rates on flights. For a nonstop, round-trip flight from JFK to LAX, the platform offered nearly the same cost listed directly on the Delta website and on Priceline.
Chase Travel points boost
Perhaps one of the greatest reasons why you should book through Chase Travel is the boosted point value when redeeming points. If you are a Chase Sapphire Reserve® , Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card or Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card holder, your Ultimate Rewards points have a higher value when redeemed for travel through Chase’s platform.
While cash back point redemptions only glean 1 cent per point across all Ultimate Rewards cards, certain cardholders have the potential to unlock better value by booking travel through the Chase Travel portal.
Earn more Ultimate Rewards points
Many Chase cards also let you earn more Ultimate Rewards points when you make travel purchases on the portal. If you don’t have quite enough points to spend on your trip, it can still be rewarding to make reservations with Chase, as you can rack up rewards to help cover your next one.
Note that though the Chase Freedom Unlimited* and Chase Freedom Flex* cards are technically cash back cards, their rewards are fulfilled as Ultimate Rewards points. Plus, if you do the math, 5 percent cash back is the same rate as 5X points.
No hotel elite benefits
Since Ultimate Rewards is a third-party booking site, you won’t be able to enjoy any hotel elite benefits when you book a stay through the platform. If perks like complimentary Wi-Fi, late checkout or room upgrades are an important part of your vacation, you might be better off redeeming points for a statement credit and booking directly with your favorite hotel.
Overall, booking a trip through Ultimate Rewards is usually worth it. You get competitive prices compared to other sites and can potentially eke more value out of your points. However, consider the value of your hotel elite benefits before deciding to book this way.
Other redemption options with Ultimate Rewards
Other than travel purchases, Ultimate Rewards cardholders have plenty of other ways to use their points. Here is a quick breakdown of other redemption options and how they work.
Pay with points
If you regularly shop on Amazon or use PayPal, you might be surprised to learn you can use your Chase Ultimate Rewards points to pay for your order. All you have to do is link your Chase card, through the Ultimate Rewards portal, to your account and shop as normal.
Apple Ultimate Rewards store
Another merchandise option for your Ultimate Rewards points is Apple products. By shopping through the Ultimate Rewards portal, you can use points to pay for your next phone or computer. And, the good news is that the products are the same price on the portal as they are on the Apple website.
If neither online shopping option appeals to you, you can still use your Ultimate Rewards points to fund purchases. Just apply your points toward a gift card, and you’ll generally get 1 cent per point of value by redeeming this way. However, there are a few special deals that pop up, such as 15 percent off a BJ’s Restaurant gift card. With the discount applied, it’ll only cost you 850 points for a $10 gift card.
Chase Ultimate Deals
Any time you are on the Ultimate Rewards portal, it is a good idea to check out Chase Ultimate Deals. This page includes current offers for bonus points at online retailers and discounts on gift card redemptions. If you are trying to rack up points or get more than 1-cent-per-point of value on a gift card, this is a great portal to check out.
Shop through Chase
While not strictly a redemption option, Shop through Chase is another unique feature on the Ultimate Rewards portal. It awards between 1 and 15 bonus points for shopping online at hundreds of different retailers. Just be sure you check out each site’s individual terms and conditions, as they might include specific purchase requirements or expiration dates.
To ensure you earn bonus points at these stores, make sure to check back on the “Rewards Activity” page on the portal. Any bonus points you earn should appear in your account in the next five business days.
Transfer to travel partners
If you have a premium Ultimate Rewards card (Chase Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve or Ink Business Preferred), you also have the option to transfer your points to one of Chase’s 14 transfer partners . Points transfer at a 1:1 ratio, meaning you generally get good value by choosing this option.
Tips for maximizing Chase Ultimate Rewards
- If you are a Chase Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve or Ink Business Preferred cardholder, use your points to book travel to get the best value.
- Check Chase Ultimate Deals regularly to see if you can earn bonus points or save money on gift cards.
- Check Shop through Chase before buying a product online to see if you can earn bonus points on your purchase.
- Purchase flights and hotels via Chase Travel because the prices are competitive and you can earn bonus points on those transactions, if you pay with your Chase card.
- If you need to make a purchase with Apple, Amazon or PayPal, consider going through Ultimate Rewards to use your available points.
Bottom line
Chase Ultimate Rewards is a user-friendly point redemption platform that offers plenty of flexibility for Chase cardholders. When it comes to booking travel, there are plenty of options and competitive rates. Plus, point boosts allow Sapphire and Ink Business Preferred cardholders to stretch their points further than they otherwise could. Ultimate Rewards cardholders also maximize the value of the platform by keeping an eye out for special deals on gift cards and online purchases.

Chase Ultimate Rewards is one of the major transferrable points programs and a favorite among many travelers. Points are easy to earn and can be transferred to many different hotel and airline partners. But you can also book travel directly through Chase’s travel portal using Ultimate Rewards points.
Booking travel through the Chase Travel portal is simple and can be a great way to use your points.
We’ll show you everything you need to know about how to redeem your points, including the benefits, how to know what your points are worth, and how to book airlines, hotels, and more through the Chase Travel portal.
Why Book Travel Through the Chase Travel Portal?
Generally, you can get maximum value from your Chase Ultimate Rewards points by transferring them to the Chase airline and hotel partners , so why are we talking about using points through a travel portal? While it’s true that the only way to get the highest value redemptions is by transferring, there is still a lot of value to be had by booking directly through the Chase Travel portal.
Flexibility is not often available with points bookings. Unlike an award booking, booking through Chase Travel is like using any other online travel agency (OTA) . There are no blackout dates or limited inventory award seats. If a flight or hotel is available, you can book it with points through the Chase travel portal.
One of the major bummers of booking flights with frequent flyer miles is that you don’t earn miles on award bookings. You can end up doing a lot of travel without earning miles. However, any booking you make with your Chase Ultimate Rewards points through the Chase Travel portal will earn frequent flyer miles and accrue status points. Unfortunately, hotel and car rental bookings still won’t earn points.
We have talked to so many people over the years that love the idea of collecting points and miles but don’t want to deal with the hassle. While many don’t mind putting a little work into getting an awesome redemption, others are just looking for a simple way to book travel and hopefully save some money in the process.
That’s where the Chase Travel portal comes in. With this method of redeeming points, there is no transferring, comparing points values, blackout dates, limited award availability, or multiple travel accounts. You only have to deal with 1 type of point and 1 travel portal but can still retain many of the benefits of collecting points and miles in the first place.
Bottom Line: You can book flights, hotels, rental cars, activities, and cruises through the Chase Travel portal.

What Are Chase Ultimate Rewards Points Worth?
It’s easy to earn lots of Chase Ultimate Rewards points , but do you know how much they are worth ? If you’re transferring your Chase Ultimate Rewards points to a travel partner, their value will go up or down depending on the type of redemption.
However, when you are booking your travel directly through Chase’s travel portal, each Chase Ultimate Rewards point has a set value that won’t change . The credit card you have will determine the value of your Chase Ultimate Rewards points.
If you have multiple Chase credit cards, it makes sense to transfer your points to the card with the most valuable redemption rate. The only exception to this is the Ink Business Premier card because points earned on this card can’t be transferred to any other card.
1. To transfer your points between 2 cards, log on to the Chase dashboard and select Combine Points .
2. Then you will be able to select the card you want to transfer points from and the card you want to receive the points. After you choose, click Next.
3. You can transfer all of your points or just what you need. Click Review to continue.
4. Double-check the details and click on the Submit button to complete the transfer.
Bottom Line: Your credit card will determine the value of your Chase Ultimate Rewards points. Your points are worth between 1 to 1.5 cents each depending on which credit card you’re redeeming points through.
What if you’d prefer to pay for your travel with a Chase credit card to earn Ultimate Rewards points? The number of points you’ll earn through the Chase travel portal is dependent on which credit card you have and what type of travel you’re purchasing.
You can log into your account in 2 ways.
First, you can go directly to the Ultimate Rewards website to log in or you can log in through your Chase account .
If you’re in your Chase account, click on one of your Ultimate Rewards credit cards and then click on Redeem next to the card’s Ultimate Rewards balance.
Then choose the card you want to use.
From here you can access Chase Travel by clicking on Travel in the top search box or you can switch to another card’s account by clicking on the 3-line icon in the upper left-hand corner.
1. In the Travel section of your Ultimate Rewards account, click on Flights to start your search for a flight. As with any other OTA, you begin your search by inputting basic information such as departure and arrival city, travel dates, and the number of passengers.
2. Next, you will be able to narrow your search results . At the left-hand side of the page, you can filter your results by things like airline or flight times. Then you can sort your results by price, trip duration, or times using the drop-down box at the top of the search results.
3. For each flight option, you’ll be able to see the price in dollars and in points on the right-hand side of the results box.
4. Once you’ve found the flight you want, click the blue Select button. Next, you can choose your return flight using the same process as you did for selecting the outbound flight. Click the blue Select button once you have made your choice.
5. From here you can confirm your flight details and select a fare upgrade if you wish. Then, you’ll be able to choose how to pay for your flight . You can pay for the entire purchase with points or a Chase credit card, or you can split your payment between points and a Chase credit card.
6. Finally, input your passenger information next. Don’t forget to add a frequent flyer number, a Known Traveler Number, or a Redress number if you have them.
Hot Tip: When purchasing travel through the Chase travel portal, you can split your payment between Chase Ultimate Rewards points and a Chase credit card.
How To Book a Hotel Through Chase Travel
1. To book a hotel through the Chase Travel portal , you’ll need to start by clicking on the Hotels tab in the main search box. Then, input your destination, check-in and check-out dates, and the number of travelers. Next, click on the blue Search button.
2. Your search results will look like other sites that you may be familiar with. You’ll see filtering options to the left and sorting options above your search results.
3. Each search result will show the price in both dollars and Chase Ultimate Rewards points. These prices include taxes and fees with the exception of resort fees.
4. Once you select your hotel, click on Add to Itinerary . You can choose to pay for all or part of your hotel cost using Ultimate Rewards points. Click Begin Checkout to input your reservation details and finalize your booking.
Hot Tip: When booking a hotel through the Chase Travel portal, you won’t be eligible to earn points in the hotel’s loyalty program or take advantage of any elite status you may have.
The Luxury Hotel and Resort Collection (LHRC) is exclusively for Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholders. From the Ultimate Rewards travel home page, just click on The Luxury Hotel & Resort Collection tab.
Once you are on the LHRC homepage, type in your destination and click Search to view available properties. Each listing will display the property’s unique cardmember benefits. Click on the listing for more information and to continue the booking process.
When booked through the Chase Travel portal, these properties offer the following benefits:
- Daily breakfast for 2
- Special amenity (varies by property)
- Room upgrades (based on availability)
- Early check-in and late checkout (based on availability)
The Luxury Hotel and Resort Collection properties are reservation-only bookings. You’ll make your reservations online and payment doesn’t happen until you check out from the hotel. These bookings will not take Chase Ultimate Rewards points as payment.
Bottom Line: Luxury Hotel and Resort Collection properties are only available to Chase Sapphire Reserve cardmembers. These properties can’t be booked with points.
1. To rent a car through the Chase Travel portal, start by clicking on the Cars tab in the main search box. Then, input your pick-up location, drop-off location, dates, times, and age of the driver. Click on the blue Search box to continue.
2. You can then narrow your search with the filtering options on the left-hand side of the page.
3. For each car option, you will be able to see the car details, rental company, and price in both dollars and Chase Ultimate Rewards points. Once you have selected the car you want to rent, click on Add to Itinerary .
4. You can pay for the entire purchase with points or a Chase credit card or split your payment in any amount. Double-check all of the details before completing your purchase.
Did you know you can also book activities through Chase Travel?
1. Click the Activities tab on the Ultimate Rewards travel homepage to get started. Then, input your destination and travel dates and click the Search button to continue.
2. You can narrow your search by selecting 1 or more categories at the left-hand side of the page. Categories can include things like:
- Classes & workshops
- Cruises & sailing
- Food & drink
- Outdoor activities
- Seasonal & special occasions
- Tickets & passes
- Tours & sightseeing
- Transfers & ground transport
- Unique experiences
3. Each activity will show the price in both dollars and points to the right side of the screen. Click on Show Details and Pricing for more information and to book the activity.
6. Double-check all of the details on the final page before completing your purchase. Click the box confirming you understand the travel disclosures, then click Complete Checkout to finish your purchase.
Bottom Line: You can book lots of activities through the Chase Travel portal, including airport transfers!
If you’re a fan of cruises, you’ll be pleased to know you can book them through your Chase Travel portal. To get started, click on the Cruises tab on the Ultimate Rewards travel homepage.
This will bring up a list of available cruises, but there’s also a search box at the top of the screen, so you can input a specific destination or cruise line.
Each listing will display the cruise line, ship, ports of call, sailing dates, and baseline pricing for an interior or oceanview cabin. Unfortunately, if you want any more specific information or if you want to book, you will need to call 855-234-2542 .
You’ll notice that only cash prices are listed for cruises, however, they can be booked using your Chase Ultimate Rewards points, too.
Hot Tip: You can book a cruise through Chase Travel but you’ll have to call to make your reservation as they can’t be booked online.
How Do the Prices Compare to Other Sites?
Are you getting a good deal by booking through Chase? Let’s look at how the prices available through the Chase Travel portal stack up to other OTAs and search engines including Hotwire , Kayak , and Expedia .
We did some flight searches and found there’s no clear-cut pattern on prices between the Chase portal to other websites.
Example #1: Round-trip flight between Philadelphia (PHL) and San Francisco (SFO) for 1 person in economy.
We searched this route in the Chase travel portal and the cheapest option was a flight that was split between Alaska Airlines and Delta Air Lines for $526.20. This worked out to be the cheapest price we found, and Priceline had the same low price. Expedia and Hotwire both charge booking fees, making the price a little higher. Each airline’s own website couldn’t split the itinerary between different airlines, so those ended up being much more expensive.
If you are in doubt or would like to check prices yourself, Kayak is a great place to start. Kayak will show you prices for a flight on all of the OTAs as well as the airline’s website. It’s a great one-stop shop to compare flight prices.
Example #2: Round-trip flight between New York City (JFK) and Paris, France (CDG) for 1 person in economy.
We searched this route in the Chase travel portal and the cheapest option was a flight that was split between American Airlines and British Airways for $689.78. This wasn’t the overall best price we found, though. That award goes to Expedia and Priceline.
Hot Tip: You will earn frequent flyer miles when you book your flight through the Chase Travel portal.
Example #1: Here’s how prices looked for a week-long stay at the JW Marriott Cancun Resort & Spa in Mexico for 2 people including all taxes and fees. The $291.55 resort fee can’t be paid with points.
In this example, the best cash rate by far was through Marriott. However, if you wanted to pay with points, booking with Chase Ultimate Rewards points through the travel portal would be your best bet.
Keep in mind that Marriott doesn’t have an award chart, so different time periods can have different point costs. A 7-night stay at this hotel can dip down to 240,000 points for a 7-night stay. If you’re going to pay for your hotel stay in points, it’s always smart to calculate how many points it would cost to book through Chase versus transferring points . This information can help you make the best and least expensive choice.
Hot Tip: You won’t earn hotel loyalty points when booking a hotel through Chase and any elite status you have may not be recognized.
Example #2: Let’s look at an example of a hotel that doesn’t have a loyalty program. We priced out a 2-night stay at Almond Tree Inn Hotel in Key West, FL for 2 people. The highest prices were direct via the hotel with all other websites surveyed being cheaper.
Here’s how the prices stacked up:
Chase’s low price matched the other online travel websites and was actually lower than the hotel’s own website, so it would be a great option in this case. It also affords the opportunity to use points for a hotel that doesn’t have its own loyalty program.
In many cases, car rental prices found through the Chase Travel portal were similar to prices found on the rental agency’s own website.
The main difference in booking through Chase vs. directly through a car rental agency is that the car rental agency often has the ability to book the car without paying up front. With the Chase portal, you will be paying at the time of booking and there may be change or cancellation fees if you need to modify your reservation.
In both of these examples, Chase Travel didn’t offer the lowest price, however, that won’t always necessarily be the case. Of course, the advantage of booking through Chase is the ability to use your Chase Ultimate Rewards points. It’s always a good idea to price out your car rental on a few different websites before booking to ensure you’re getting the best price.
Chase actually offered the lowest prices on activities for both examples:
Other Ways To Use the Chase Travel Portal
The Chase Travel portal also helps you earn bonus points. With the Shop through Chase feature, you can earn extra Ultimate Rewards points through your online shopping.
Just click Earn Bonus Points in the top search bar to access the shopping portal. Click on a featured store or search for a specific one. Then simply click through the portal to your website of choice to make your purchase. Your bonus points will be added to your Chase Ultimate Rewards points total within 3 to 5 days in most cases.
Did you know you can use your Chase Ultimate Rewards points to make purchases at Amazon and PayPal? Click on Pay with Points in the top search bar, then select either Amazon or PayPal to enroll and shop.
Unfortunately, the redemption value you get when shopping through Amazon or PayPal is pretty bad — only 0.8 cents per point. While it’s great to have this as an option, we don’t recommend using points to shop at Amazon or PayPal as your main use of Chase Ultimate Rewards points.
Bottom Line: The value of using your Chase Ultimate Rewards points to shop through Amazon or PayPal isn’t great: you will only get 0.8 cents per point!
By clicking on Apple in the main search box in your Ultimate Rewards account, you can use your Chase points to make purchases. Normally, you’ll get 1 cent per point in value when using your points for Apple purchases, but there are occasional bonuses offered to get a better redemption rate.
You can also redeem your Ultimate Rewards points for cash-back. To do this, simply select Cash-back from the main search bar at the top of the screen. You will then be able to see choose how many points you’d like to redeem for cash-back at a value of 1 cent per point .
You can choose to have your cash direct deposited into a checking or savings account or as a statement credit. The deposit or statement credit will be posted within 3 days.
Bottom Line: Your Chase Ultimate Rewards points are worth 1 cent each when redeemed as cash-back. We do not recommend this as a primary redemption option because you can get more value via the Chase Travel portal, and a lot more when transferring to airline and hotel partners.
This is a really cool section of the Chase Travel portal. When you click on Experiences in the main search bar, you’ll see a list of exclusive events, preferred seating, and other offers for select Chase cardmembers.
Experiences can be purchased with a credit card or with points. You will get 1 cent per point in value when redeeming points for experiences. Some experiences are only available to cardholders of specific cards so be sure to check all of your cards if you have more than 1 to make sure you don’t miss anything.
If you prefer gift cards, you can purchase them through the Chase Travel portal using points. Just click Gift Cards in the main search bar to get started. From here, you will be able to scroll through all of the available gift cards. You’ll get 1 cent per point in value, with occasional sales offering better redemption rates.
Hot Tip: Points redeemed for gift cards have a 1-cent per point value. However, you might notice some cards offer discounts, so there is the opportunity to get a bit more value!
Another way to use your Ultimate Rewards points is through the Pay Yourself Back feature. This allows you to redeem your points for a statement credit for purchases in select categories. The current categories include groceries, dining, select charities, credit card annual fee, internet, cable, phone, and shipping and the redemption value varies by card.
Transferring points to travel partners is the best way to get the most value out of your points . By transferring, you can potentially get 2, 3, or more cents per point value.
Chase Airline Transfer Partners
Chase Hotel Transfer Partners
To transfer your Chase Ultimate Rewards points to any of the above airline and hotel partners, log on to your account and click on Transfer To Travel Partners in the top search box. Choose your airline or hotel and then select Transfer Points . You’ll need to fill out your frequent flyer information or hotel loyalty membership number to complete the transfer.
Bottom Line: You can currently transfer your Chase Ultimate Rewards points to 14 different hotel and airline partners.
There are many ways to use your Chase Ultimate Rewards points. While transferring points to one of Chase’s airline and hotel travel partners can get you maximum value, there are a lot of benefits for booking travel directly through the Chase Travel portal .
In addition to hotels and flights, you can book car rentals, activities, and cruises. Or, you can use your points for cash back, shopping, gift cards, or Chase exclusive experiences. With so many ways to use your Chase Ultimate Rewards points, your next trip is only a few clicks away!

- The Chase Travel℠ portal works just like an online travel agency.
- You can use points, cash, or a combination of both to book flights, hotels, rental cars, and more.
- Several Chase cards offer better redemption values or bonus points when you book through the portal.
The Chase Travel Portal℠ is an online booking platform for flights, hotels, rental cars, cruises, activities, and vacation rentals, similar to an Online Travel Agency (OTA). If you're a Chase Ultimate Rewards® cardholder, you can use points to book travel through the portal — or pay with your card or a combination of points and cash.
Chase Ultimate Rewards is one of the most flexible and lucrative credit card rewards programs, and its benefits can be even greater depending on the Chase cards you have. With a no-annual-fee card like the Chase Freedom Flex℠ or Chase Freedom Unlimited® , your points are worth 1 cent each toward travel booked through the portal.
But if you have a Chase travel credit card like the Chase Sapphire Reserve® , Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card , or Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card , you'll get 25% to 50% more value when you redeem your points for travel, plus the ability to transfer your points to Chase airline and hotel partners .
Some Chase cards also offer bonus points for paid bookings you make through the portal. Chase added lucrative new bonus categories to the Chase Sapphire Reserve® and Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, including certain types of travel booked through the portal.
Here's everything you need to know about booking airfare, hotels, and more through the Chase travel portal — and how to make the most of your Chase Ultimate Rewards points.
What Is the Chase Travel Portal?
The Chase Travel portal works like any other Online Travel Agency (such as Travelocity or Priceline), and the searches you do for hotels, airfare, and more will produce similar results to what you see on that OTA.
You must be a Chase credit card customer to use Chase travel to book with cash or with points. In fact, you'll only access the Chase Travel portal when you log into your account management page with Chase.
Chase travel lets you book travel directly with Chase Ultimate Rewards points, use your credit card to pay, or combine the two. This is one of the main benefits of using Chase travel — you can spend the rewards points you earn directly on the travel you want without having to worry about dealing with specific hotel or airline loyalty programs.
There are a few other key benefits to know:
- You'll still earn airline miles and work toward elite airline status: You won't earn points or elite night credits when you book a hotel stay with Chase travel because it's considered a third-party booking. However, you can earn airline and elite-qualifying miles on flights you book as long as your frequent flyer number is attached to the reservation.
- Your points are worth more with certain Chase credit cards: Also be aware that some Chase credit cards give you more than the standard rate of 1 cent per point when you redeem your rewards for travel through Chase. We'll go into more detail on the cards that offer this perk below.
- The Chase Travel portal is easy to use: If you don't want to deal with a bunch of hotel and airline award charts, booking through Chase travel can help keep your rewards game simple. You'll always be able to use your points for any booking you want without having to worry about blackout dates or capacity controls you would normally encounter with loyalty programs.
To be eligible to use the Chase Travel portal, you'll need a Chase credit card that earns Chase Ultimate Rewards points .
No-annual-fee Chase cards open to new applicants (points are worth 1 cent each through the Chase Travel portal):
- Chase Freedom Unlimited® (read our Chase Freedom Unlimited review )
- Chase Freedom Flex℠ (read our Chase Freedom Flex review )
- Chase Freedom® Student credit card (read our Chase Freedom Student review )
- Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card (read our Chase Ink Business Unlimited review )
- Ink Business Cash® Credit Card (read our Chase Ink Business Cash review )
Chase travel rewards cards open to new applicants (points are worth more with Chase travel, plus these cards allow you to transfer points to airline and hotel partners):
- Chase Sapphire Reserve® (read our Chase Sapphire Reserve review )
- Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card (read our Chase Sapphire Preferred review )
- Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card (read our Chase Ink Business Preferred review )
If you have more than one Chase card, you can transfer your Chase Ultimate Rewards points between accounts. It makes the most sense to pool your points in the account that gives you the best redemption value — for example, if you pair the Chase Freedom Unlimited® and Chase Sapphire Reserve®, moving all of your Chase Ultimate Rewards to your Sapphire Reserve account will increase the value of your points when you redeem through the Chase Travel portal.
To pool your points onto one card, log into your Chase online account, navigate to the "Redeem" section for your Chase Ultimate Rewards card, then select the option to combine points in the "Earn/Use" tab:
From there, you can move your Chase points between accounts in any increments you want.
Points Value in the Chase Travel Portal
Some Chase credit cards give you a bonus when you redeem points through the Chase Travel portal. Here's a summary of how much your points are worth with each Chase card:
It's important to note that Chase Ultimate Rewards points are worth, on average, 1.8 cents apiece based on Personal Finance Insider's points and miles valuations . That's because it's possible to get outsized value when you transfer points to partners for award travel.
How to Use the Chase Travel Portal
Using the Chase Travel portal is a breeze, but it all starts with logging into your online account management page. From there, you'll click on the right side of your screen where it shows your Chase Ultimate Rewards account balance.
Once you click on the account balance, you'll have the option to select the card you want to access. And remember, this step can be important because some cards give you more value from your points when you redeem them for travel.
How to book a flight through Chase travel
Once you are logged into your Chase Ultimate Rewards account, you'll see different travel options to search for at the top of the page.
To search for a flight, make sure the prompt is on "Flights" and begin searching for the flight you want. Enter your departure airport, destination, travel dates, and the number of passengers.
Once your flight options pop up on the screen, you can filter your results by the number of stops, the airlines you want to fly, and arrival times.
Note that each of your flight options will include a payment amount in points as well as a cash price.
You can also click on "Details and baggage fees" in order to find out the cost of carry-on luggage or checked baggage, as well as whether your flight charges any change fees.
When you click to "Select" a flight option, you'll get a rundown of what is and isn't included in the fare you selected. You may also get a note that you can upgrade before you check out.
Once you settle on a flight you want, you'll be taken to the "Trip Details" page that shows the final cost of your flight in points or in cash, as well as a summary of the added costs you may be charged for baggage or change fees.
After you agree to the terms, you'll be taken to a final payment page where you can decide how you want to pay. You have the option to cover your flight entirely in points if you want, but you can also choose to pay with your Chase credit card or with a combination of points and your credit card.
During the booking process, make sure to add your frequent flyer number to your reservation. That way, you can earn miles on your booking and your flight will count toward elite status requirements. You'll also want to add your Known Traveler Number or Redress number if either applies to you.
If you forget to do it during your booking, however, you can add your frequent flyer information to your flight later on using the airline's website.
How to book a hotel through Chase travel
Booking a hotel through Chase is similarly easy, and you'll find a lot of different types of lodging options available. For example, you'll find properties from major hotel brands, but you'll also find rental condo options and boutique hotels.
To search for a hotel, enter the destination, dates, and the number of people you want to have in your room. Once you're presented with your options, you can filter hotels based on the hotel name you're looking for, the area or neighborhood, price point, guest rating, property type, and more.
Once again, you'll see a price listed in points as well as a cash price per night.
These prices do not include taxes and fees, however, so your price in points or cash will be higher by the time you get to the final booking page. Also be aware that the price listed is the lowest you can get for the property, but that better or upgraded rooms and suites will cost more in points.
The major downside to booking a hotel through the Chase portal is that you won't earn hotel points or elite night credits for your stay, because it's considered a third-party booking. There's also a risk that the property won't recognize your hotel elite status or give you the perks you'd normally be entitled to, like late checkout or free breakfast . This shouldn't be an issue if you're booking an independent or boutique hotel, but if you're looking for hotel points or status, it's something to be aware of.
You'll have the option to select a hotel you want as well as a room type at the property you're considering. You can also pay with your booking with points, your Chase credit card, or a combination of the two.
How to book a rental car through Chase travel
You can also book a rental car through Chase travel using the same set of steps. Once you log into your Chase Ultimate Rewards account, click on "Cars" and then select the destination and dates.
Once you are presented with your search results, you can select the types of cars you prefer, like an economy car or an SUV. You can also filter results based on a price range, the number of passengers you have, the rental car company, and the type of transmission you prefer (manual or automatic), as well as the total area you want to search in.
Note that, once again, taxes and fees are not included on the initial search page. Instead, they are added to your total cost when you select a rental car. You can also pay for a rental car through Chase with points, your credit card, or a combination of the two.
How to book activities with the Chase Travel portal
Chase also lets you book a variety of activities through the portal, which they refer to as "Things to Do." Chase activities can include excursions like snorkeling or scuba diving, as well as tours of museums and historic sites. But you can also book more practical options through their activities tab, including airport pickups and other types of transportation.
To search for activities, enter the destination and dates for your trip. You'll be shown a price in points and in cash that does include taxes and fees. You can also filter options based on the type of activity, your interests, and more. Once again, you have the option to pay for activities with your points, your credit card, or a combination of the two.
How to book a cruise through Chase travel
If you're a cruise enthusiast, you should know you can also book cruises through Chase travel. When you select "Cruises" at the top of the Chase Ultimate Rewards search page, you'll be presented with a list of featured cruises and cruise specials.
You can also search for cruises based on the destination or the name of the cruise line. Note, however, that only cash prices are listed for each cruise on the portal, and that you'll have to call Chase to make a booking.
Either way, you can absolutely use your Chase points to pay for all or part of your cruise. Just have your credit card number handy and call their customer service line at 855-234-2542.
How to book a vacation rental through Chase
Chase also offers a selection of vacation rentals, which can include vacation condos, luxury villas, and more. To search, click on "Vacation Rentals" at the top of the main page, then enter your destination, dates, and the number of people in your party.
Once you start your search, you'll have the option to filter results based on the local neighborhood you want, star ratings, price range, guest rating, property type, and more. Like hotels through Chase, the price you are shown excludes taxes and fees, but they will be added to your total once you make a selection.
Also be aware that the price shown in your search results is for the lowest-tier option for each property, and that a larger rental or upgraded rental may cost more in points.
When you book vacation rentals through Chase, you can pay with points, your Chase card, or a combination of the two.
Use the Chase Travel portal to book Luxury Hotel & Resort Collection properties
If you have the Chase Sapphire Reserve®, you can book properties within the Luxury Hotel & Resort Collection. This list of more than 1,000 properties can be reserved ahead of time, and you'll get extra benefits with each stay such as:
- Daily breakfast for two
- A special benefit worth up to $100
- Complimentary internet access
- Room upgrades when available
- Early check-in and late checkout
One detail to note with this program is the fact that you cannot pay with points. Instead, your online booking will reserve your room, and you'll be charged for the stay when you check out from the hotel.
Should you transfer Chase points instead?
While you can book travel through the Chase Travel portal directly, many people prefer to transfer points to Chase airline and hotel partners instead. Doing so could let you get more value for each point you redeem , but you'll have to run the numbers to find out for sure.
Here's a good example of how transferring points to a Chase airline or hotel partner can be a better deal, as well as the math you'll need to do to figure this out on your own. Take this one-way flight on Air France from Chicago to Paris, for example, and assume you have the Chase Sapphire Reserve® card, so you're getting 50% more value when you redeem points through the Chase Travel portal.
If you were to book this flight through Chase Travel, you would owe 39,607 points with the Chase Sapphire Reserve®, compared with the cash price of $594.10.
However, you could book an award ticket on the exact same flight through Flying Blue (Air France's loyalty program) directly if you transferred your Chase points there first. In this case, the identical flight would set you back 22,000 miles plus $109.44. This means you would transfer 22,000 miles from Chase to your Flying Blue account, and pay the taxes and fees in cash, or by redeeming points for a statement credit to your account.
When you compare, you'll find that booking with miles directly is a better deal. After you subtract the taxes and fees from the cost of booking through Flying Blue, you wind up with a value of around 2.2 cents per mile.
With the Chase Travel portal, on the other hand, you're forking over 39,607 points for the same flight, and you're getting a value of 1.5 cents for each point if you have the Chase Sapphire Reserve®.
Accessing Chase Travel is simple. If you're a Chase credit cardholder with Chase Ultimate Rewards points, you can log in to your Chase online account. Once logged in, navigate to the 'Travel" or "Rewards" section, where you'll find the Chase Travel portal. From there, you can search and book flights, hotels, and other travel services using your earned points or card benefits. It's a convenient way to plan and manage your travel adventures.
Chase Travel refers to the travel booking and rewards platform offered by Chase Bank. It's part of the Chase Ultimate Rewards program, allowing cardholders to use their earned points to book flights, hotels, car rentals, and other travel-related expenses. Chase Travel provides a convenient way to plan and book your trips while taking advantage of the rewards and benefits associated with Chase credit cards.
To earn 5% on Chase Travel, consider using a Chase credit card that offers bonus rewards on travel purchases. Cards like the Chase Sapphire Preferred or Chase Sapphire Reserve often offer 5 points per dollar spent on travel booked through the Chase Travel portal. Additionally, taking advantage of limited-time promotions and special offers can also help you maximize your rewards when booking travel with Chase.
Bottom Line
Keep in mind that, no matter which Chase credit card you have, there are other ways you can use your rewards points. You can redeem Chase points for statement credits or cash back, or cash them in for gift cards or merchandise. And if you have a premier Chase travel credit card, you can transfer your points to Chase airline and hotel partners at a 1:1 ratio.
However, booking travel through Chase can make your life considerably easier — especially if you don't like dealing with complicated hotel and airline programs. You may not get as much value from your points as you would if you booked a premium flight with airline miles, but the Chase Travel portal does offer the flexibility to book the flight you want without any blackout dates or hoops to jump through.
The Chase Travel portal offers yet another way to maximize rewards earned with a Chase credit card. Just make sure to consider all your options and the value you're getting for your points before you pull the trigger.

Quick Points: Transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points before downgrading your card
If you're considering changing your Chase credit card, here's an important step to consider before doing so.
The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card and Chase Sapphire Reserve® are two of our favorite travel credit cards at TPG, and both offer generous welcome bonuses:
- Chase Sapphire Preferred Card : Earn 60,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening.
- Chase Sapphire Reserve : Earn 60,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening.
They both earn valuable Chase Ultimate Rewards points, giving you access to some of the best hotel and airline transfer partners available. You can also earn Ultimate Rewards with the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card .
Ultimate Rewards points are flexible because you can decide when and where to transfer your points and how many to transfer; however, you typically have to transfer your points in increments of 1,000.
You might decide to transfer some points to World of Hyatt to book hotel rooms for as little as 3,500 points or transfer to Aeroplan to book domestic flights on United Airlines from as low as 6,000 points.
If you're looking to hit another welcome bonus offer, unfortunately, you won't be able to earn a bonus on a Chase card if you currently hold that card in your wallet or if you earned a sign-up bonus on that exact card in the last 24 to 48 months. So, if you currently hold a Chase Sapphire card, you may be considering downgrading that card to a no-annual-fee Chase card, such as the Chase Freedom Unlimited® or the Chase Freedom Flex℠, to protect your credit history as well as keep your Ultimate Rewards account active.
Related: Complete guide to downgrading and product-changing to earn sign-up bonuses on Chase Sapphire cards
However, it is important to note that you can only transfer Ultimate Rewards to travel partners if you have an active Sapphire card or an active Ink Business Preferred Card. If you downgrade your Chase card to one of the Freedom cards, you can still redeem your Chase points for discounted travel, cash back or gift cards at a rate of 1 cent per point with the Ultimate Rewards platform.
However, you cannot transfer your points to partners. Remember, if you have the Sapphire Reserve, you can redeem your points on Chase Travel℠ for 1.5 cents per point, and if you have the Sapphire Preferred, you can redeem for 1.25 cents per point on Chase Travel. But, if you utilize transfer partners, you can get a much greater redemption value, as TPG values Chase points at 2.05 cents per point.
If you are planning to downgrade your card and have a favorite transfer partner (aka one that you use frequently), consider transferring your Ultimate Rewards balance to that partner (or several) before downgrading your card, as it is easy to get more than 1 cent per point in value when utilizing transfer partners.
Otherwise, you will need to wait until you are approved for a Sapphire or Ink Business card again before you can transfer your Ultimate Rewards points.
Better Together: How to combine Chase Freedom Flex℠ and Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card for maximum travel rewards
Fortune Recommends™ has partnered with CardRatings for our coverage of credit card products. Fortune Recommends™ and CardRatings may receive a commission from card issuers.
If credit cards were food, the Chase Freedom Flex℠ and Chase Sapphire Preferred ® Card cards would definitely be peanut butter and jelly, respectively.
That’s because both cards start out perfectly solid on their own. Even if you never knew how to combine their powers, you’d be very happy using both on a daily basis. But once you discover how to make a PB & J sandwich, there’s no going back. You’ve discovered a treat that’s sweet, protein-rich and gives you an excellent excuse to eat Wonder Bread.
It’s the same thing with the Sapphire and the Freedom Flex–combine them, and you’re in for a tasty treat that you wish you’d discovered sooner.

Chase Sapphire Preferred – a grab bag of travel perks
In a similar vein, here’s a quick breakdown of Chase’s homemade grape jam, the ever-popular Sapphire Preferred card:
- 2x points on travel purchases , plus 3x points on dining, 3x points on select streaming services and online grocery purchases (excluding Walmart, Target and wholesale clubs), 5x points on travel purchased through Chase Travel℠ and 1x points on other purchases.
- 25% travel redemption bonus when you redeem your Chase Ultimate Rewards points through Chase Travel (e.g. redeem 10,000 points, get $125 in value).
- 60,000-point welcome bonus after spending $4,000 within three months.
- $50 annual statement credit good towards a hotel booked through Chase Travel.
- $95 annual fee
To learn more, check out our full review of the Chase Sapphire Preferred .
Circling back to our “recipe,” notice how Chase is quick to point out that your 60,000-point welcome bonus is worth $750 in travel redemption–all thanks to that handy 25% redemption bonus. And if you think about it, that means the points you earn with the card are worth 1.25X towards travel, too.
So in reality, as long as you’re redeeming points through Chase Travel, your rewards chart really looks like this:
- 5X > 6.25X on travel booked through Chase Travel
- 3X > 3.75X on dining/online groceries/streaming
- 2X > 2.5X on general travel
- 1X > 1.25X on everything else
Those are some mighty impressive earnings rates, lending even more value to the CSP as a travel companion.
But here’s the crazy thing: that 25% bonus multiplier applies to every Chase Ultimate Rewards point you earn, regardless of which card you earn it with .
Here’s how it all works.
Here’s how your Chase Sapphire Preferred account lets you earn 6.25X with your Freedom Flex card
In our Chase Ultimate Rewards guide we outline all of the dozen-ish ways you can redeem your hard-earned Chase points. From trips to back massages to cash back, there’s hardly a bad option.
But perhaps the most underrated option is the Combine points feature.
Combine points allows you to move Chase Ultimate Rewards points from one Chase card to another–meaning you can earn points with one card–and spend them with another. Another that has, say a 25% points multiplier on points redeemed for travel…
As you can see, the option only applies to Chase rewards cards that generate Chase Ultimate Rewards points. So the Prime Visa and the IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card cards, for example, won’t appear here–but your Freedom and Sapphire cards will.
Unlike a bank transfer, combining Chase Ultimate Rewards points is free and instantaneous. Plus, you can always move the points back if you wish (although I’ve never found a reason to move points from a Sapphire card back to a Freedom card).
Then, as soon as you’ve combined all of your Chase Ultimate Rewards points into your Sapphire account, you can go spend them at Chase Travel where you’ll get an extra 25% in value:
This trick also works with the Chase Sapphire Reserve card where you’ll get 50% extra value (provided you’re cool with the card’s $550 annual fee).
Now, while I heartily recommend this trick to most travelers I meet–especially if they already have both cards–you should know that it still comes with three big caveats.
PB & Js aren’t perfect, and neither is this trick
Though delicious, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches aren’t perfect. They’re high in fat, sugar and carbohydrates, and unlike the Chase Sapphire Preferred card, they don’t travel especially well.
In a similar vein, here are the caveats to the “PB & J of Chase cards”:
- The Chase Sapphire Preferred card charges a $95 annual fee and requires a 670+ FICO score to apply.
- With the Chase Freedom Flex, you can only earn 5% cash back on activated bonus category purchases each quarter (up to $1,500 in purchases, then 1%) (generating 7,500 Chase Ultimate Rewards points worth $93.75).
- Hotel rooms booked using points typically don’t generate any additional rewards or allow you to utilize your status benefits.
But if you’re OK with these caveats, I hope you enjoy this simple recipe for tastier travel rewards. And for more tips to help you get off the ground–quite literally–check out our Beginner’s guide to travel rewards .
Please note that card details are accurate as of the publish date, but are subject to change at any time at the discretion of the issuer. Please contact the card issuer to verify rates, fees, and benefits before applying.

Transferring Chase Points to Airline Partners
A large part of Ultimate Rewards' value stems from the ability to transfer to 14 partners, 11 of which are airlines. This makes your points highly valuable.
Transferring to airline partners often yields higher redemption value. Consider that AwardWallet users typically redeem Chase points at 1.8¢ each using transfer partners. Each airline transfers from Chase at a 1:1 rate, though semi-regular transfer bonuses can provide a boost.
One caveat is that you must have a card with an annual fee to access transfer partners. Thus, you need one of these cards:
- Sapphire Preferred
- Sapphire Reserve
- Ink Preferred
As mentioned above, you can combine the cash back from other cards with the points from these cards , increasing the amount of Ultimate Rewards points you can transfer to partners. You can do this through the Ultimate Rewards portal by clicking the Rewards Details drop-down menu and selecting Combine Points.
You also combine points with another member of your household by calling the customer service number on your card.
Once you've combined all the points into a transferable account, you'll need to decide where to transfer your points. Most transfer immediately, but remember: These transfers are final. The points cannot be redeposited into your Ultimate Rewards account. Make sure you know how you are using them before transferring them!

Each of the 11 airline transfer partners of Chase Ultimate rewards provides you access to different routes and airline alliances. Here are some of the most valuable.
Aerlingus, British Airways, and Iberia all share a points currency: Avios. These rewards can be used to book flights or transferred between accounts to consolidate . Each Avios program has useful sweet spots for both international and domestic flights. A caution here: The fuel surcharges on Avios bookings can really add up.
Here are some potential uses:
- Use British Airways Avios to book domestic economy flights on American Airlines for as low as 8,250 Avios one way.
- Use Aer Lingus Avios to book a one-way economy ticket between Boston and Dublin for 13,000 Avios.
- Book a coveted Qsuite on Qatar Airways using 70,000 British Airways Avios
- Use as few as 34,000 Iberia Avios to book a business-class seat on a flight between the East Coast and Madrid.
Want to know how to use Chase points for flights in other ways? Consider these:
- Air France–KLM Flying Blue awards provide great value when looking for economy or business class to Europe from the U.S. These miles also can be used to book partner awards on Delta or other SkyTeam airlines. Economy tickets can frequently be booked for 20,000 each way and lie-flat business class for 50,000 miles to Europe.
- Air Canada's Aeroplan program can be a great way to book United domestic tickets for as low as 6,000 points or even to Hawaii for 12,500 points.
- Virgin Atlantic's sweet spots include flights booked on partner airlines, such as flying first class between the U.S. and Tokyo on ANA for as little as 72,500 points. Another great option is booking Delta One business class seats to/from Europe for 50,000 miles per person.
- Points also transfer to Southwest Airlines and JetBlue at 1:1, and both programs have revenue-based award pricing. That means you can snag some convenient, cheap award flights, but you'll get a fairly set value of around 1.4 cents per point. This eliminates the opportunity for outsized value but can still offer decent redemptions. And having a Southwest Companion Pass will certainly stretch your points further!
These transfer partners can be great options, depending on your travel goals:
- While United Mileage Plus may not always offer the most valuable redemptions, you shouldn't overlook the option of topping off your United points stash with Ultimate Rewards. Plus, there can be some inexpensive economy words both domestically and internationally on partners.
- Singapore Airlines has several sweet spots that include “fifth freedom” routes from the U.S. to Europe for as low as 25,000 points in economy or 40,000 points in business.
- Emirates Skywards may not be the most valuable points in terms of redemption costs, but Emirates has some of the nicest first-class seats in the world!
While transfers to airline partners typically offer the most value for your points, the options for how to use Chase points for flights also includes booking directly through the Chase Travel Portal instead of transferring them to partners. Booking through the portal can provide better value under some circumstances. The cash price of the tickets and the credit card you hold determine the amount of points needed to book a flight.
The value for your points is shown in this chart:
For low-cost flights, portal bookings often provide better redemption value. Chase Travel bookings also eliminate the problem of finding scarce award availability and allow you to earn points in the airline loyalty program like a normal cash booking.
Consider this flight from Boston to Washington, D.C. Booked in the portal, this flight will cost you 10,248 Ultimate Rewards with a Chase Sapphire Preferred or [CC_AW_FullName slug=InkPreferred]. Those with a Chase Sapphire Reserve will only pay 8,600 points, due to the 1.5¢ redemption rate on this premium card.
You could book this Delta flight for as few as 10,500 miles via Flying Blue on some dates, but that's if you can find awards at the cheapest prices. You may see prices at nearly double these rates, depending on demand, but the redemption rates in the portal won't fluctuate. Definitely compare your options.

After logging into the Chase Ultimate Rewards travel website, access the travel portal by clicking “Travel” and then “Book Travel.”
Once in the portal, click on “Flights” and search for your departure and destination the way you would on any booking site. You can then filter by the number of stops, airlines, flight times, and price. The results will display options with prices listed in cash and Ultimate Reward points. You also can book flights with a combination of points and cash.
Ultimate Rewards are an excellent, useful reward currency. While transfers to partners often provide the highest value for your points, there are occasions when booking through the portal can provide easier and better redemptions than points transfers. Thanks to Chase Ultimate Rewards' versatility, you can leverage your points to book flights in whichever way works best for your travel goals. After reading this guide, you should know how to use Chase points for flights and the value obtainable from your different options.

How to Transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards Points: Step-by-Step
Transferring your Chase points to an airline or hotel loyalty program is pretty straightforward. You’ll need to have your loyalty program membership number handy. If you don’t have one yet, you’ll need to create one. Keep in mind that transfers to newly created accounts can take a little longer than usual. I learned this fact the hard way when my sister tried transferring Chase points to a newly created United MileagePlus account. It took days for the points to land, delaying our trip plans and creating extra hassle. Be mindful of this possibility and plan accordingly.
Without further ado, here’s a step-by-step look at how the Chase transfer points process works:
Step 1: Log into your Chase Ultimate Rewards account . Under the “Travel” tab, select “Transfer points to partners.”
Step 2: Select the program you want to transfer points to. Review the (then current) terms, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select “Transfer points.”
Step 3: Provide your loyalty account number, then hit “next.”
Step 4: Enter the number of Ultimate Rewards points you want to transfer, then hit “next.” Points must be transferred in 1,000-point increments.
Step 5: Confirm transfer details and submit your request.
After following these steps, you should log in to your loyalty program account and confirm that the points have indeed been transferred. Transfers can take longer to some programs, especially if you’re transferring them for the first time or it’s a new account. Transfers to Marriott Bonvoy can take up to 39 hours, so you’ll want to have a backup plan and avoid booking those awards too close to departure.
Should You Transfer Your Chase Points?
Transferring your Chase points can be an excellent way to redeem them for maximum value. Chase has 14 transfer partners, consisting of eleven airlines and three hotel loyalty programs. Points transfer 1:1 and sometimes Chase even offers bonus points when you transfer to specific programs. Offers like these can help you stretch your Chase points even further.
One of the best ways to redeem Chase points is by transferring them to airlines and hotels for luxury travel experiences. You can get well over 2 cents in value out of each point, making transfers an exceptional way to use these rewards. However, before transferring your Chase points, you should consider the following:
Compare Loyalty Program Rates Against Chase Travel
The Chase Travel portal allows you to redeem points towards the cost of flights, hotels, activities and even cruises. If you have a Chase Sapphire Reserve, your points are worth 1.5 cents each, while the Chase Sapphire Preferred gets 1.25 cents per point. Before transferring your points to one of Chase’s 14 loyalty partners, it’s worth comparing rates on the Chase Travel portal. You might end up redeeming fewer points through Chase Travel, especially during off-peak periods.
For example, hotel rates in New York City are notoriously low in January. Looking at point rates for the first week of January 2025, I found the Dream Midtown for 21,000 Hyatt points per night. Meanwhile, the same room costs $174 on the Chase Travel portal. Since I have a Sapphire Reserve card, I can book this hotel through Chase for just 11,585 points. This example shows how booking through Chase will save almost 10,000 points over transferring points to Hyatt. So, it’s important to compare rates against Chase Travel before transferring them.
Evaluate the Best Transfer Partners
Chase has numerous airline transfer partners, some of whom are in the same alliance. Sometimes, booking with Singapore Airlines Krisflyer miles requires fewer points than using United MileagePlus for the same flight. Whether you’re looking for alliance-specific flights or not, it’s essential to compare award redemption rates among Chase airline partners before transferring your points to any one program. Doing so ensures you’re getting the best deal possible.
Consider Transfer Bonuses
This idea is on par with choosing the best transfer partners: Sometimes, Chase offers bonus points when you transfer Ultimate Rewards points to a specific loyalty program. This option can significantly reduce the cost of your award ticket, saving you both points and cash. You can check current transfer bonuses by navigating to the transfer partner page in your Ultimate Rewards account. You’ll see the transfer bonus amount and the promotion end date if a promotion is ongoing.
For example, Chase offers a 25% bonus when you transfer points to Air France and KLM’s joint Flying Blue program. This promotion ends on April 30, 2024. If you have upcoming travel plans involving Flying Blue, this transfer promotion can be a great way to redeem your Chase Ultimate Rewards points.
Be Mindful of Transfer Times
While Chase points transfer instantly to most programs, Chase provides a disclaimer stating it can take up to seven days. Some exceptions can also impact your travel plans. For example, point transfers to Marriott Bonvoy can take up to 39 hours, which can impede your ability to secure award space if the hotel and dates are popular. While points transfer almost instantly to most airlines, first-time transfers can take longer.
The first time I transferred Chase points to United , it took almost two days to clear. The award I wanted to book was gone by the time the points landed in my account, making me wish I’d just redeemed points at 1.5 cents each towards a flight booked on Chase Travel. One workaround is to put award tickets on hold whenever possible. But if you’re booking travel close to departure, it’s best to have a backup plan and perhaps reconsider transferring points in case processing takes longer than expected.
