It was cruising for a bruising.

A Carnival cruise ship chartered for a “Six Terrifying Nights of Music and Madness” event crashed with the side of a pier, leaving it banged up and many of its partygoing passengers temporarily stranded in Jamaica.

The Carnival Magic hit the pier while docked in the Caribbean island’s Ocho Rios on Tuesday when “strong winds and swells caused the pier fender to collapse under pressure” and the ship made contact with the pier at 11 a.m., a company rep told The Post in an email..

“There were no injuries, and all the ship’s services remained operational” — but it was forced to leave port, leaving many stunned passengers behind.

The Magic left the area “for the safety of everyone on board, later docked at another nearby pier and guests who went ashore rejoined the ship,” the company said.

Carnival Magic

Dyllon Price was one of the passengers shocked to see the 1,004-foot ship depart before he boarded.

“We’re watching our ship sail off into the rainstorm. We’re like — nobody knew what was happening,” Price told Fox 35 Orlando .

Another passenger, Adam Middleton, told the outlet that his group left the ship about 8 a.m. Tuesday and got stuck on the island for almost 12 hours due to the storm before the pier incident.

“We had a couple thousand people just out in a field in the pouring rain and no shelter, no food, no drinks. I think there was one toilet,” he said after getting back on board.

“Everybody was running around, not sure what to do because they locked us out of the ship,” he added.

The company Ask4Entertainment had chartered the ship for its annual rock band trip called ShipRocked 2024, the Miami Herald reported .

Carnival Magic

It left Florida on Sunday with stops planned for Bimini, Ocho Rios and Grand Cayman with several bands scheduled to play, including I Prevail, Killswitch Engage, Beartooth and Badflower, according to the outlet.

Barbara Ligman and her husband, James, both 60 and from Fort Myers, also were on the sailing.

She said I Prevail was supposed to play at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday but a couple of its members were stuck onshore.

“We’re fine now that we’re back on the boat,” Barbara told the Herald on Wednesday. “Yesterday was just horrendous because Carnival was not communicating what was going on.”

Barbara said weather had prevented the stop in Bimini. When they arrived in Ocho Rios, “it was very windy,” she said.

“You can see right away the huge waves crashing over the pier and washing out the port,” she told the outlet. “Rocks and mud were entering the building.”

The couple got off the ship about 8:20 a.m. to go on a hike and headed back about noon — well before the 3:30 p.m. return-to-ship time — but realized it had left without them getting any alerts on their app.

“People were just standing around. Nobody telling you what’s going on,” Barbara told the Herald.

She said about 1,000 passengers were taken to a three-bedroom, two-bathroom house to wait.

“We had no idea where the boat was. We’re getting no information from Carnival,” Barbara said, adding that they finally “got an update at 6:30 p.m. that the boat is docked and ready to board” at another pier.

Carnival told the outlet that the passengers were never stranded.

“Our guests were not and would never be left behind,” it said, adding that passengers left ashore “were taken care of by the Carnival team and shore excursion partners.”

No one was hurt in the incident, which left the ship damaged.

The company said the Magic would depart from Jamaica on Wednesday night to continue its voyage.

A Carnival Cruise Line ship hit a pier in Jamaica amid windy weather on Tuesday, forcing it to move away and temporarily leave guests on shore.

The incident occurred on the line’s Carnival Magic ship at 11 a.m. in Ocho Rios after “strong winds and swells caused the pier fender to collapse under pressure,” according to Carnival spokesperson Matt Lupoli. He did not specify the wind speeds.

“There were no injuries, and all the ship's services remained operational,” he told USA TODAY in an emailed statement. “The ship left the area for the safety of everyone on board, later docked at another nearby pier and guests who went ashore rejoined the ship.”

Carnival Magic is on a six-day cruise that departed from Miami on Sunday, according to CruiseMapper . The ship skipped a planned stop in Grand Cayman due to the weather conditions in the region and stayed in Ocho Rios, where it will leave Wednesday evening, Lupoli said.

The news comes after high winds caused two MSC Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line ships to break from their moorings last month. MSC Sinfonia broke away from its moorings while in port in Syracuse, Italy and was blown into a nearby marina, and one of Norwegian Prima’s moorings detached in Galveston, Texas.

Passengers aboard Royal Caribbean ’s The Harmony of the Seas could be heard screaming as the 1,188-foot ship crashed into a pier in Jamaica .

The incident happened on Thursday when the cruise liner docked at Falmouth, a busy port on the country’s northern shore, at about 7am.

Several bits of port infrastructure were damaged in the collision, including a pier structure which was crushed by the 227,000 tonne vessel. An investigation is underway.

Passengers could be heard screaming as the ship drifted towards the port and crashed into a pier, where it was trying to dock.

“Oh my God”, one woman could be heard crying out in a video of the crash which has attracted more than 500,000 views on social media. Another passenger was heard yelling “Holy s***”.

Despite the terror felt by those aboard the Harmony, there were reportedly no injuries – although the vessel did sustain “cosmetic” damage during the collision, Royal Caribbean said in a statement to RoyalCaribbean.com .

The ship’s operator said the Harmony, a 6,687-passenger vessel which was launched in 2016, was able to continue its cruise without issue.

Jamaica’s tourism minister meanwhile told reporters that Falmouth’s port would need some repairs and would be operational this week.

“We are repairing the damaged areas at the port now,” the minister,  Edmund Bartlett, was reported by RoyalCaribbean.com as saying. “The divers are there now recovering the broken elements and we should be back in full order for the ships that come next week.”

The crash has been blamed on the harbour pilot’s “error”, with the captain of the Harmony allegedly misdirected by the harbour pilot, reports said.

The Port Authority of Jamaica said in a statement of its own on Friday that an investigation involving Royal Caribbean would be carried out and that damage to infrastructure was being assessed.

Royal Caribbean told The Independent: “During arrival in Falmouth, Jamaica,  Harmony of the Seas  made contact with an extension part of the dock. There were no injuries to guests or crew and only minor cosmetic damage to the ship’s stern. The sailing continued as scheduled.”

A Royal Caribbean  cruise ship crashed into a dock  in Falmouth, Jamaica, on Thursday (May 26). The captain of the Harmony of the Seas was piloting the ship into the port but got too close to a docking extension, which is used to moor ships once they dock.

A  video capturing the collision  was posted on Twitter. As the massive 1,200-foot ship approaches the concrete mooring pylon, passengers begin to realize a collision is imminent.

"We're gonna hit. We're gonna hit," a woman yells just before the ship rams into the pylon, crunching the metal bridges connecting it to the dock.

Royal Caribbean said that nobody was injured and that the ship Harmony of the Seas suffered minor cosmetic damage. The incident will not impact the seven-day cruise. The ship successfully docked following the collision.

"During arrival in Falmouth, Jamaica, Harmony of the Seas made contact with an extension part of the dock. There were no injuries to guests or crew and only minor cosmetic damage to the ship's stern. The sailing will continue as scheduled," Royal Caribbean said in a statement.

The Ministry of Tourism in Jamaica said the pilot was badly directed as he guided the ship into the port. Officials said that the damaged areas of the port should be repaired by next week.

"We are repairing the damaged areas at the port now. The divers are there now recovering the broken elements, and we should be back in full order for the ships that come next week,"  Tourism Minister  Edmund Bartlet  told Jamaican newspaper  The Gleaner .

The 362 metre vessel, longer than the Eiffel Tower, had embarked on a seven-day cruise from Port Canaveral, Florida. It accommodates 5,479 guests and has a number of water-based attractions, as well as 20 dining venues, a 1,400-seat theatre and 11,252 works of art.

An investigation is now underway after several parts of the port’s infrastructure were damaged in the collision, including a pier structure which was crushed by the 227,000 tonne vessel.

The Port Authority of Jamaica stated that the “incident did not result in significant damages to the vessel.”

“No injuries were sustained to either crew or passengers,” The Royal Caribbean said in a statement . “The collision is said to have caused mostly cosmetic damage to the vessel, including dents and paint scrapes.”

According to the Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett, the collision at the Falmouth port was caused by pilot error.

“We are repairing the damaged areas at the port now,” Bartlett said. “The divers are there now recovering the broken elements and we should be back in full order for the ships that come next week.”

Watch: One Of World’s Longest Cruise Ships Crashes Into Jamaican Pier

The world’s longest cruise liner has reportedly crashed in the Caribbean as it was coming to the dock. In Falmouth, Jamaica, the Harmony of the Seas reportedly smashed into the jetty.

Guests were heard screaming as the extended dock’s concrete scraped along the liner’s stern. The collision caused nothing more than cosmetic damages to the vessel, including some dents and paint scrapes, per reports from Royal Caribbean Blog.

The accident took place last Thursday, May 26, around 7 am, as the ship was trying to back into the assigned spot to dock . There were no injuries to crew members and guests and only minor cosmetic damages to the stern. Royal Caribbean mentioned that sailing will continue following the schedule.

royal Caribbean ship

The Royal Caribbean ship had set off on a seven-day cruise from Florida’s Port Canaveral. Cruise ships are typically tied next to the dock. However, the Harmony of the Seas came to the dock at a slightly odd angle.

It was supposed to depart from Port Canaveral, Florida, on 22 May, before visiting Nassau, which is the capital city of The Bahamas, on Monday, and CocoCay, a private island destination on Tuesday.

The ship was set to reach Labadee Haiti on 27 May, before heading to Flordia after two days. The cruise takes passengers on seven-day round trips to the Caribbean. Their cheapest room starts at about £495 for a departure date of 28 August.

The liner is about 1,188ft long — whereas the Eiffel Tower is 984ft — and weighs 226,963 gross tonnes. It cost £1billion to build. The vessel boasts 17 decks, 23 swimming pools, a theatre with 1,400 seats, and more than 2,700 rooms for accommodating about 6,410 guests.

The largest cruise liner in the world by gross tonnage is the Wonder of the Seas, at 236,857 tonnes, about 10,000 more than Harmony.

Massive Carnival cruise ship crashes into pier standing thousands of partygoers in Jamaica

A cruise ship crashed into a pier Tuesday, leaving passengers stranded in Jamaica for 12 hours.

A pier fender on the port town of Ocho Rios collapsed due to strong winds and swells, Carnival says. The ship then crashed into the pier.

Worried travelers who had exited the cruise say they then witnessed the boat leave for what was later revealed to be a different stop.

"We're watching our ship sail off into the rainstorm. We're like - nobody knew what was happening," passenger Dyllon Price told WOFL .

The passengers say they were left waiting in a rainy open field well into the night, as the US warns tourists to "reconsider travel" to the island amid skyrocketing murders.

The ship was sheduled to be in Ochos Rios from 8am to 4pm. The crash happened around 11am Tuesday, Carnival says.

Passengers were stuck on the island for nearly 12 hours before they could get back on the ship.

"We had a couple thousand people just out in a field in the pouring rain and no shelter, no food, no drinks. I think there was one toilet," said passenger Adam Middleton.

Ironically, the cruise is hosting a music festival called "ShipRocked." The ship had already avoided stopping in Grand Cayman because of the rain, Carnival said.

Pasengers were stuck in Jamaica amid warnings from the US government, which is telling Americans to remain vigilant after at least 65 people were killed on the island in January.

"That was absolutely in our minds," Middleton said.

No injuries were reported.

"I don't think we ever should have docked," Price said. "It might have been a bummer to skip Jamaica, but not as bad as it was to be stuck on the island for 12 hours."

Carnival told the Miami Herald guests would "never be left behind" at any stage.

The firm said "our guests were not and would never be left behind," adding that those ashore "were taken care of by the Carnival team and shore excursion partners."

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A Carnival cruise ship was left damaged Tuesday after its side slammed into the side of the pier, causing the pier fender to collapse at one of their ports.

The Carnival Magic, which departed from Florida on Sunday, was docked in Ocho Rios in Jamaica when high winds caused the pier fender to collapse, hitting the ship’s side.

Carnival said the ship docked at 8:10 a.m. in Ocho Rios, but the incident didn’t happen until 11 a.m.

In a statement to WFLA.com, Carnival Cruise Lines said: Carnival Magic was involved in an incident while in Ocho Rios, Jamaica on Tuesday morning, Feb. 6 when strong winds and swells caused the pier fender to collapse under pressure, and the ship made contact with the pier.

The cruise line said no one was injured and that all operations continued as normal.

For the safety of the guests and staff aboard, the ship left the area and docked at a nearby pier. All guests that were ashore were able to get back on the ship.

Carnival said the weather conditions caused several cruises to cancel their docking in the Grand Cayman on Wednesday.

The Magic remained in Ocho Rios on Tuesday and into Wednesday. The ship is expected to depart from Jamaica on Wednesday evening.

The Carnival Magic left Miami on Sunday. Its itinerary includes the Bimini Islands on Monday, Ocho Rios, and will return to Miami on Saturday.

Here is a video capturing the collision  which was posted on Twitter. As the massive 1,200-foot ship approaches the concrete mooring pylon, passengers begin to realize a collision is imminent.

A passenger can be heard yelling, “We’re gonna hit. We’re gonna hit,” just before the ship rams into the pylon, smashing the metal bridges connecting it to the dock.

Royal Caribbean released a statement on the incident:

“During arrival in Falmouth, Jamaica, Harmony of the Seas made contact with an extension part of the dock. There were no injuries to guests or crew and only minor cosmetic damage to the ship’s stern. The sailing will continue as scheduled,” Royal Caribbean said in a statement.

(Warning: Adult language).

Luckily incidents like this are very rare and often only cause property damages to the piers. Often these are the result of very heavy winds or technical difficulties onboard the ships . Each incident is investigated thoroughly as the pier damages have been in the millions.

cruise ship crashes

Passengers hoping for a relaxing holiday in the Caribbean were left terrified after the world’s longest cruise ship crashed into a pier in Jamaica.

The 1,188ft Royal Caribbean’s The Harmony of the Seas cruise ship was meant to dock at Falmouth, Jamaica but instead people could be heard screaming as it drifted towards the pier and then crashed.

During the video footage, one woman could be heard crying out ‘oh my God’.

Another passenger was heard yelling ‘Holy s**t’.

Despite the terrifying screams and noises coming from the cruise ship, no passengers on board were injured.

The cruise liner crashed at 7am last Thursday.

An investigation is now underway after several parts of the port infrastructure were damaged in the collision, including the pier structure which was crushed by the 227,000 tonne vessel.

Edmund Bartlett, Jamaica’s tourism minister confirmed although Falmouth’s port would need some repairs, it will still remain operational.

He said: ‘We are repairing the damaged areas at the port now.

‘The divers are there now recovering the broken elements and we should be back in full order for the ships which come next week.’

Watch: Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship Crashes Into Dock Due To Pilot Error

  • The Harmony of the Seas crashed into a dock in Falmouth, Jamaica, because the pilot was badly directed at the time
  • It suffered "cosmetic damage," but no guests or crew members on board the vessel were injured
  • The damage to the port, which did not disrupt cruise shipping operations or schedules, is now being repaired

Royal Caribbean's Harmony of the Seas cruise ship crashed into a dock in northwest Jamaica last week due to pilot error, Jamaican officials said.

The incident, which saw the Harmony of the Seas' aft colliding with a concrete mooring pylon at a dock in Falmouth as the vessel was backing into its assigned berth at around 7 a.m. Thursday, happened because the pilot was badly directed at the time, newspaper Jamaica Gleaner reported, citing the country's Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett.

The affected mooring pylon collapsed into the water as a result of the crash.

Meanwhile, the Oasis-class Harmony of the Seas suffered "cosmetic damage" to its stern, Royal Caribbean told News 6 in a statement.

No guests or crew members on board the vessel were injured, the company said.

The Harmony of the Seas was inspected and repaired within hours of the incident. Passengers were even able to disembark the vessel and carry out their scheduled activities after the cruise ship was moored "without delay," the Port Authority of Jamaica said Friday.

"The good news is that nobody got hurt and the damage was minimal to the vessel and it was able to continue its journey unfazed and really unaffected," Bartlett said.

Jamaican authorities are now repairing the damage caused to the dock, which they said did not disrupt cruise shipping operations or schedules.

"We are repairing the damaged areas at the port now. The divers are there now recovering the broken elements and we should be back in full order for the ships that come next week," Bartlett said.

Despite what happened at Falmouth, the Harmony of the Seas was able to follow the planned schedule for its seven-night western Caribbean itinerary.

The ship, which carried more than 7,000 passengers at the time of the crash, was set to return to Port Canaveral in Florida Sunday after visiting Royal Caribbean's private destination in Labadee, Haiti.

Another Royal Caribbean cruise ship, the Radiance of the Seas, went through a similar experience earlier this month when it struck a dock structure at the Sitka Sound Cruise Terminal in Alaska.

Massive Carnival cruise ship crashes into pier standing thousands of partygoers in Jamaica

"we're watching our ship sail off into the rainstorm. we're like - nobody knew what was happening," passenger dyllon price said., nbc reports as cruise ship 'hits dock' at san francisco pier.

We're like – nobody knew what was happening," passenger Dyllon Price told WOFL .

"I don’t think we ever should have docked," Price said. "It might have been a bummer to skip Jamaica, but not as bad as it was to be stuck on the island for 12 hours."

Carnival told the Miami Herald guests would "never be left behind" at any stage.

The firm said “our guests were not and would never be left behind,” adding that those ashore “were taken care of by the Carnival team and shore excursion partners.”

ShipRocked Cruise Slams Into Jamaica Pier Amid High Winds

The post ShipRocked Cruise Slams Into Jamaica Pier Amid High Winds appeared first on Consequence .

A couple days into the ShipRocked cruise , high winds and ocean swells caused the Carnival Magic ship to slam into a pier in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, on Tuesday (February 6th). The incident has derailed the ship’s itinerary, forcing the cancellation of a planned stop at Grand Cayman.

The cruise, which set sail from Miami on Saturday (February 4th), features performances by I Prevail, Killswitch Engage, Beartooth, Highly Suspect, Badflower, and more. The ship wasn’t even supposed to dock at Jamaica until Wednesday, but headed toward land a day earlier due to the high winds and choppy waters at sea.

The Carnival Magic ship docked at 8:10 a.m. and let a number of passengers off to spend the day in Ocho Rios. Unfortunately, at around 11:00 a.m. the pier began to collapse under pressure from the wind and sea swells, causing the ship to slam into the dock, resulting in noticeable damage to the pier and the ship.

Due to the dangerous situation, the Carnival Magic had to wait until another cruise ship departed from a different dock. Eventually the passengers who had been ashore were able to re-board the ship several hours later in the evening.

Carnival Cruises issued the following statement:

“Carnival Magic was involved in an incident while in Ocho Rios, Jamaica on Tuesday morning, Feb. 6 when strong winds and swells caused the pier fender to collapse under pressure, and the ship made contact with the pier. The ship was alongside at 8:10 a.m. and the incident occurred at 11:00 a.m. There were no injuries, and all the ship’s services remained operational. The ship left the area for the safety of everyone on board and later docked at another nearby pier so that guests who went ashore Tuesday morning could rejoin the ship. The guests who were ashore at the time were taken care of by the Carnival team and shore excursion partners. Given the weather conditions in the region, Carnival Magic will remain in Ocho Rios on Tuesday night. Its visit to Grand Cayman is cancelled for Wednesday.”

Music performances on the ship appear to be ongoing, as fans await word on an updated itinerary. Consequence photographer Amy Harris is currently on the ShipRocked cruise and sent us the video and photo gallery of the damage below.

World's longest cruise ship crashes into dock as passengers heard screaming

The world's longest cruise ship has crashed into a dock as passengers were heard screaming in chilling footage.

Royal Caribbean’s The Harmony of the Seas 1,188-foot cruise ship crashed into a pier in Jamaica.

At the country's busy port on the northern shore, Falmouth, the cruise liner attempted to dock around 7am on Thursday but proceeded to smash into the dock.

As the ship started drifting towards the port, passengers could be heard screaming in a video which has garnered more than half a million views on social media.

“Oh my God”, one woman could be heard crying out in a video, while another passenger was heard yelling “Holy sh**”.

Royal Caribbean said in a statement that despite the terrifying accident, there were no injuries but the ship did sustain some "cosmetic damage".

The port was also damaged in the collision, as the huge 227,000-tonne vessel crushed the pier structure.

Authorities have said an investigation is underway.

The Harmony holds 6,687-passengers and was launched in 2016.

Despite the accident, the cruise was able to continue its journey without any issues and passengers could continue to enjoy their tour and planned activities.

Falmouth's Minister Edmund Bartlett said: "We are repairing the damaged areas at the port now.

"The divers are there now recovering the broken elements and we should be back in full order for the ships that come next week.”

The collision was reportedly the harbour pilot’s “error”, as the captain of the Harmony was allegedly misdirected by the harbour pilot, according to reports.

The Port Authority of Jamaica said in a statement on Friday that they may opt to convene a formal enquiry into the collision involving Royal Caribbean and an enquiry would be carried out to assess the infrastructure.

The Royal Caribbean ship had set off on a seven-day cruise from Port Canaveral in Florida.

It then went to the capital city of The Bahamas, Nassau, on Monday, and private island destination CocoCay on Tuesday.

It was then set to head for Labadee Haiti, another Royal Caribbean private island, before arriving back in Florida two days later.

The mammoth ship is 1,188ft long and 226,963 gross tonnes.

It cost around £1billion to build and guests can choose from 23 swimming pools and 17 decks, as well as a 1,400 seater theatre all to accommodate more than 6000 guests.

The largest cruise liner in the world, the Wonder of the Seas, is around 10,000 more tonnes than Harmony.

Danube river cruise ship crashed after it was 'suddenly no longer able to maneuver,' 17 passengers injured

  • A cruise ship crashed into a concrete wall along the Danube river in Austria on Friday.
  • A police statement said the ship "was suddenly no longer able to maneuver."
  • Eleven people were treated at the hospital and another six suffered less serious injuries.

Insider Today

A Bulgarian cruise ship carrying over 140 passengers crashed into a concrete wall along the Danube river in Austria.

The incident occurred late on Friday in the northern Austrian town of Aschach an der Donau, local police said Saturday.

Eleven people were injured and taken to hospital as a result of the crash. Six others suffered less serious injuries that did not require hospital treatment.

The ship had set off from Passau, a German city on the Austrian border. A police statement said that as the ship was leaving a lock chamber further down the river, "the ship was suddenly no longer able to maneuver," and its right bow and left aft crashed into the lock walls.

The second-in-command of the ship, who had been at the helm during the crash, "pressed the emergency switch, whereupon the electronics started up again." He was then able to steer the ship out of the lock.

The ship was later docked at the quay wall and emergency services were notified. The ship was able to continue its journey toward Linz, Austria.

Earlier this week, a container ship crashed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, collapsing a section of the 1.6-mile-long structure. The bodies of two construction workers were found after the collision, and four more workers are missing and presumed dead.

Citing the container ship's recovered data recorder, officials said the power went out on the Dali for just one minute and three seconds as it approached the bridge, Sky News reported, but that was enough for the collision to become unavoidable.

In 2019, a cruise boat hit and sank a smaller boat near Budapest, Hungary, killing 25 South Korean tourists and two crew members. The captain was sentenced to five years in prison for his role in the accident.

The Danube is the second-largest river in Europe, flowing from the Black Forest in Germany south into the Black Sea near Romania and Ukraine.

Correction: April 1, 2024 — An earlier version of this story misstated the year of the Danube ship crash in Hungary. It was in 2019, not 2023.

17 reported hurt after river cruise ship hits a concrete passageway on the Danube in Austria

  • Copy Link copied

Seventeen passengers were hurt when a Bulgarian river cruise ship lost steering and hit the sides of a lock on the Danube in Austria, the apa news agency reported Saturday. Eleven of the injured were taken to hospitals.

The ship with 142 passengers aboard, most of them from Germany, temporarily lost power to its electronics system and became unsteerable as it passed through narrow locks at 9:45 p.m. Friday, apa reported.

The ship’s power was restored but not before the bow and stern struck the concrete sides of the lock passage near the town of Aschach, a few miles upriver from Linz.

The ship sustained minor damage and continued to its next port. The cause of the loss of electrical power was under investigation.
