Our 2 hour tours are perfect to fill part of your day with an exciting trip and still have time for other activities on your itinerary so that you get the full Telluride experience.

Bridal veil falls.

Duration: 2 Hours

Bridal veil falls is the tallest waterfall in Colorado at 365 feet! We leave from the town of Telluride and drive up the rugged road to the base of the falls for photo opportunities. We then continue to the top of the falls to explore the old Bridal Veil Powerhouse (built in 1907) and surrounding area before returning to town.

Smuggler Mine

This tour leaves from town of Telluride and goes up the Tomboy Road through the Social Tunnel to the Smuggler Union mine. We will stop at the mine for photos and to explore the rich mining history in the old structures. This was one of the most successful mines in the region and still has some of the most intact structures of mines in the area.

Last Dollar Road

Some consider the Last Dollar Road one of Colorado’s most scenic drives with great views of the Sneffels Range and Wilson Peak. The area is full of massive aspen groves, best seen in September/early October when the Aspens are electric yellow! This road might be arguably one of the best areas to photograph fall foliage. Early summer brings wildflowers galore, while wildlife like deer, elk and even bear can be spotted year round.

Half Day Tour – Depart: 9:00am or 1:00pm

Tomboy ghost town and imogene pass.

Duration: 4 Hours

This is a rugged route that passes the old Smuggler mine on its way to the ghost town of Tomboy, and then on to Imogene Pass at 13,114 feet. The Tomboy Road was once a well-traveled mining road that connected the town of Telluride and the Town of Ouray. This route generally opens for travel by late June/early July depending on snowpack.

From Telluride we travel south on Hwy. 145 to the Ames powerplant, the birthplace of electricity! From there we stop at several top-secret waterfalls en route through the town of Ophir to the rugged pass road. Ophir Pass climbs above timberline over a scree field to the 11,789 foot summit. This is our go-to route during early season (May and June) as it is always the first route to open for travel.

Black Bear Pass

Duration: 5-6 hours (8am only)

Black Bear Road is an advanced trail that crests at Black Bear Pass, elevation 12,840 feet. The road then descends over a set of infamous switchbacks.

Mountain vehicles.

We use Pinzgauers for our tours, they are built in Austria for transportation in the Alps. They have 14” of ground clearance, low gearing, narrow width (important when needing to pass wider vehicles on such narrow roads), and exceptionally tight turning radius.

• 2 trucks are 4-wheel drive models and have been customized to hold a maximum of 8 plus a driver.
• Our other truck is a 6-wheel drive model with room for 13 plus driver. With 2 forward facing bench seats plus the 1 “shotgun” seat up front you get 9 forward facing seats.

Some of the passes were closed with heavy snow this last winter and the crews are late to clear it. But Jason was awesome and took us places our vehicle could never have made it. I highly recommend this as a great way to explore the Telluride area!

Dan the guide was the absolute bomb-diggity on our journey to Bridal Veil Falls in Telluride! From the moment we met him, we knew we were in for a blazing good time. The views? Oh boy, they were incendiary, and I'm not just talking about the falls! Now, let's address the elephant in the room - our truck had a few hiccups along the way, but that just added to the adventure. It was like Dan's way of saying, "Buckle up, folks, this is gonna be one heck of a ride!" And you know what? It was unforgettable, in the best possible way. We'll be telling stories about that truck for years to come. But the pièce de résistance was riding down the mountain. Dan, you're a downhill dynamo! The adrenaline rush was so intense; it felt like we were on a roller coaster designed by Mother Nature herself. Dan, you're the real MVP of this trip. Your knowledge, enthusiasm, and those puns (seriously, they were "punderful") made this adventure an absolute blast. We can't thank you enough for this amazing trip, and we're shouting it from the mountaintops: "Everyone, young and old, you've got to experience Dan's guided tours!" A fun, exciting, Jeep ride through a beautiful mountain country side. This is a two or four hour tour on a road not many would attempt on their own, yet with an experienced driver it's possible to see much more than you could on your own. Highly recommended!! Great guides provide some history and insights about the old time mining town.

Cheeseball was the best guide ever! Pro ice climber/shark hunter and part-time chef from MI, according to his LinkedIn. "The Old Man Gramps" 6x6 vehicle was a beast. All the jeeps on the trail moved aside when they recognized the Alpha was on the trail. We had 4 adults, 2 teens, a 4 year and a 4 month old on trip and they all had a blast! The baby slept the whole way up and the whole way down, so don't hesitate and book your trip!

Amazing! The beauty of the Telluride area speaks for itself. We did a two hour ride up to the falls and we all said we should have booked a longer trip. These guys are great to work with and know what they are doing. When you do a trip like these, going with an outfit you trust in and make it enjoyable makes all the difference. Dan was our guide and was knowledgeable around the area and made the whole trip fun. We hope to be back and do a longer excursion. Highly recommended!!

I highly suggest Dave's Mountain Tours! Jason was awesome! I booked a 2 hr tour for my son and I and it was well worth it! A great experience and we felt very confident with our guide, Jason. He was friendly and knowledgeable. Definitely an excellent experience to remember. If anyone is afraid of heights, may not be the best tourist option. Definitely will book another tour with Dave's the next time we're in Telluride!

Great way to see the incredible views without the effort of hiking. We did the Smuggler's pass. We really enjoyed it.

We did the 1/2 day tour to Tomboy and Imogene pass, highly recommend!! Our driver Amos was the best! he is knowledgeabl, funny, competent and just an overall great guy. Make sure you pack layers, it was cold up at Imogene pass.

We had the four hour tour up Imogene pass that was absolutely amazing. Curtis was our guide and he brought along his dog Crosby. Curtis was incredibly friendly, personable, and informative. He was pointed out unique animals, flowers and other fun facts about the trail. Saw other tours going by packed with folks in a covered Jeep. We were the only four in an open roof car, which was super nice. Would be happy to return and would recommend to friends.

Several great four-wheel and ATV roads leave from Telluride and connect to other regional towns. Black Bear Pass connects to Telluride from Red Mountain Pass one-way and is famous for its sheer cliffs and steep switchbacks. There are several guided tours and outfitters in Telluride.

The lengths to which miners travelled for potential prosperity are at once unbelievable and astonishing. Roads cut across sheer cliffs dropping more than a thousand feet and traverse alpine basins at such extreme altitudes only small animals survive. Today, these roads are only accessible by foot or by off-road vehicle, attracting four-wheel and ATV enthusiasts from across the country. There are also several guided tours available from outfitters in Telluride.

Where to go Off-roading

Black Bear Pass Black Bear Pass is one-way four-wheel drive road zigzagging through high-alpine meadows, narrow switchbacks and some of the most beautiful mountain landscapes in the lower 48. The road is one-way from near the summit of Red Mountain Pass to Telluride.

Last Dollar Road Originally a mining supply route, the Last Dollar Road is now intermediate off-road mountain trail connecting Telluride to the Dallas Divide near Ridgway. The road passes by the airport then continues into the mountains through rolling aspen groves.

Ophir Pass This pass connects Silverton to Telluride and is known as one of the easier off-road trips in the area. ATV’s are permitted on the pass after passing through the small community of Ophir. Travel south on CO-145 from Telluride and look for the left turn into Ophir.
