CLUTCH Reveal North American Tour Dates With DINOSAUR JR. And RED FANG

Maryland rockers CLUTCH have announced a North American headlining tour with support from DINOSAUR JR. and RED FANG

The 12-date run kicks off on July 21 in Washington, D.C. and include stops in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Toronto, Chicago, Nashville and Wichita before wrapping up on August 5 in Denver.

CLUTCH ‘s thirteenth studio album,  “Sunrise On Slaughter Beach” , was released back in September. The LP, which was recorded at the  The Magpie Cage Recording Studio  in Baltimore, Maryland, was produced and mixed by  Grammy -nominated  Tom Dalgety  ( GHOST ,  ROYAL BLOOD ,  PIXIES ) with additional engineering by  J Robbins  ( JAWBREAKER ,  AGAINST ME! ,  THE SWORD ).

Dinosaur Jr. are hitting the road. The indie rock stalwarts have extended their 2022 tour, adding a leg in Europe this fall before wrapping things up late this year with a handful of shows alongside their fellow ’90s legends Guided by Voices .

After some COVID-related  delays , Dinosaur Jr.’s tour finally begins in just under a month, kicking off at Ithaca’s State Theater on September 9th. They’ll cover much of the Midwest and Northeast before heading off to Dublin on October 10th. After a 13-night run across the pond, Dinosaur Jr. will then return in late November for five shows total with GBV: Three in Massachusetts, one in Philly, and one in New York City.

The concert in Stuttgart was not as I expected. I saw an excellent concert of Dinosaur Jr in Sao Paulo in 2010, but at this time the sound was way too loud and that made almost impossible to hear J. Mascis's voice. I like that Dino uses to play loud, but they exaggerated at this time, it was very unconfortble to stay next to the stage. The performances of Lou and Murph were excellent, but J looked like he was forced to be there.

"Hey, we got another tune for ya." Opened with Thumb, mind already blown. Of course played classics like The Wagon, Start Choppin', feel the Pain and Freak Scene. Encore of Just Like Heaven and then something I don't think I've ever seen them play. "Don't" from Bug. J just melted a few hundred faces on that one. Best guitar play I've ever seen and I've seen Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton and Pete Townshend and Eddie Van Halen. Dinosaur Jr forever!

As you'd expect- really loud, searing guitar, tight rhythm section pumped it out last night.

For me the bass player was the one who 'made' the gig.. he put boundless energy into the show and sang his song (left /right) off new album.

Sadly / strangely the bands timing was badly out on one of the old hits..feel the pain? - however the songs from new album were really well represented and it was on the whole, a great gig.

Dinosaur Jr announces new album and 2021-2022 tour dates — hear single ‘I Ran Away’

Dinosaur Jr returns next month with its fifth post-reunion album and 12th overall, the 12-song, pandemic-delayed Sweep It Into Space , which the trio will support with a 42-date North American tour that starts in September and will wrap up next February.

The album is due out April 23 via Jagjaguwar — it can be preordered now — and is preceded by the single “I Ran Away,” featuring Kurt Vile on guitar, which you can hear below.

The band — J Mascis, Lou Barlow and Murph — had planned to release the record in mid-2020, but it, like so much else, was thrown off by the COVID-19 pandemic. Recording began in the fall of 2019, and features Vile as the only guest musician after Mascis ended up finishing things off in lockdown.

In the news release announcing the album, Mascis says:

“Kurt was gonna come up another time but he got Corona’d. He played little lead things, like 12 string one at the beginning of ‘I Ran Away.’ Then I ended up just mimicking a few things he’d done. I was listening to a lot of  Thin Lizzy, so I was trying to get some of that dueling twin lead sound.”

The album is the band’s first since 2016’s Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not , and comes more than 15 years after the original lineup reunited.

After dipping their toes back into live performance with a pair of socially distanced concerts in New England last September, the band members are planning a full-on return to the road beginning in September — banking on enough people being vaccinated that club shows start happening again on a wide scale.

The tour opens Sept. 7 in Montreal and the first leg will run through early October, followed by more dates in November and a third leg in February that wraps up in Denver.

In a recent interview with AndrewHaug.com , CLUTCH drummer Jean-Paul Gaster was asked if there is a "retirement plan" in place for him and his bandmates. Gaster replied: "No, there is no retirement plan in the future. We're gonna do this for as long as we can possibly do it. We still enjoy it. We just wrapped up a very extensive European tour, probably the longest we've done over there. And it was certainly difficult to do, and it was tiring, but it was also probably one of the most exciting things I'll ever do for my entire life. It was amazing. It was an experience of a lifetime. And I think we all feel like that. This opportunity to play music is such a special thing. And I think we all appreciate it more. And so we're just gonna keep doing this thing for as long as we can. We really enjoy it. I enjoy making music with these guys. It's a very special thing."

Gaster 's bandmate, CLUTCH singer Neil Fallon , previously discussed the group's longevity in an interview with RVA magazine last year. He said: "The way I calculate success is like, you got to do something that you love, and that's all you have to do. Most of our friends that are in bands or are musicians have to relegate that to weekends, maybe. I've known plenty of musicians that bang their head against the wall for years, to no avail. And sometimes things are looking good and then fate just deals them in, all four hands. But you know, we've stayed committed, through feast and famine as well. Sometimes you can generate more quote-unquote 'luck' the harder you work. But I also understand it's a rare thing, to have the same lineup and to be able to do this. And as every tour passes, every year passes, I think we get more and more defensive and protective about it, because we realize that we dodged a lot of bullets along the way. We don't, and we shouldn't, take any of it for granted. I mean, the last two years [of the pandemic] was sort of a preview of what retirement might feel like. And it's a drag. We don't want to do that."

Dinosaur Jr. have announced plans to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Where You Been , their influential 1993 grunge album and fifth full-length overall. The band will play the album in full during four concerts at London’s Garage in November and seven shows at Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg. In 2021, Dinosaur Jr. released their most recent studio album, Sweep It Into Space . They also put out the live record Emptiness at the Sinclair that same year. Plus, Dinosaur Jr. shared a cover of the Zombies’ “ Whenever You’re Ready ” using THX Spatial Audio last year.

Dinosaur Jr. Plot North American Tour This Fall

Indie rock veterans Dinosaur Jr. have announced a massive North American tour for this fall in a sign of hope that concerts may be able to resume in a somewhat normal capacity later this year.

The first of the two-leg trek kicks off September 7th at the Corona Theatre in Montreal and wraps November 27th at the House of Blues in Boston. A West Coast leg is scheduled to launch February 3rd, 2022 at Pappy’s and Harriets in Pioneertown, California, and wrap February 26th at the Ogden Theatre in Denver. Dinosaur Jr. also plans to host their annual Camp Fuzz retreat with fans July 27th through 30th in Big Indian, New York.

Tickets for all shows will go on sale Friday, March 19th, at 10 a.m. local time. Presale tickets for the tour stops and Camp Fuzz will go on sale Thursday, March 11th, via the band’s website .

Last month, Dinosaur Jr. announced a new album, Sweep It Into Space , and released the lead single, “I Ran Away.” Kurt Vile co-produced the record, which marks the band’s first since 2016’s Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not . Sweep It Into Space will arrive on April 23rd via Jagjaguwar.

Dinosaur Jr.’s ambitious tour plans are a sign that more artists are confident that some concerts and full-scale tours will be able to resume later this year. Still, even as more Americans get vaccinated, Covid-19 safety concerns remain, with some in the live entertainment industry telling Rolling Stone recently that they don’t expect pre-pandemic normalcy to return until 2022.

“I’m optimistic that if the vaccine rollout does go forward on this new timetable, we should be able to have shows by August, September, October in the amphitheaters at least,” one live industry executive, who wished to remain anonymous, said. “But the variable in all of this is what happens with these variants. And that’s the big concern for everybody.”

Dinosaur Jr. Announce Where You Been 30th Anniversary Residencies

At London's The Garage and Brooklyn's Music Hall of Williamsburg

Dinosaur Jr. have announced they will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of their fifth studio album, Where You Been , with a pair of residencies in London and Brooklyn.

After playing four shows at London’s The Garage from November 12th through 15th, Dinosaur Jr. will descend on Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn for a seven-night run from December 1st through 8th. See the band’s full tour schedule below.

Tickets for the Brooklyn dates go on sale Thursday, May 25th at 10:00 a.m. local time via AXS . UK tickets will be available the following day via Ticketmaster .

Dinosaur Jr Announce 'Where You Been' 30th Anniversary 2024 Australian Tour

Alternative rock luminaries Dinosaur Jr. are returning to Australia in 2024 for the first time in seven years, celebrating 30 years of their fifth album, Where You Been .

The only album between 1988’s Bug and 2007’s Beyond to be recorded with a full band, Where You Been sold 263,000 units in the US alone following its February 1993 release.

Dinosaur Jr’s upcoming headline tour begins at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on Wednesday, 21 February, before heading to The Tivoli in Brisbane on Friday, 23 February, then to Adelaide’s Hindley Street Music Hall on Monday, 26 February, and to Perth’s Astor Theatre on Wednesday, 28 February, before concluding their tour at Auckland’s Town Hall on Saturday, 2 March. 

Melbourne-based fans, don’t despair: while Frontier Touring presents the headline dates, Dinosaur Jr are also heading to Victoria to headline Geelong’s Tent Pole Festival on Saturday, 17 February.

The band, led by vocalist, guitarist and primary songwriter J Mascis , drummer Murph , and bassist Lou Barlow , front a line-up that also boasts Mogwai, Calexico, Cash Savage & The Last Drinks, RVG, Civic and more, all heading to the Mt Duneed Estate.

“As soon as the lights go down, the uproar is almost as deafening as the music itself,” The Music reviewer Joe Dolan recalled about Dinosaur Jr.’s last gig at Melbourne’s Croxton Bandroom in February 2017.

Dolan continued, “It’s naught to 100 in an instant for Dinosaur Jr., and even as the boys all tick past their half centuries, they have never slowed down or let their age hinder their energy. The raw power, the liveliness and the all-important noise, this is early ‘90s grunge on the eve of the Trump inauguration; perhaps more relevant now than it ever has been.”

California-based rock band Weezer is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the band's self-titled debut album, also known as the "Blue Album," with a North American tour set to kick off in St. Paul, Minnesota, on Sept. 4.
