One of the best things about bus travel is that you can almost tailor-make your trip adjusting it to your requirements for privacy and comfort. We stayed at Dolphin House on Wightman Lane the week of July 18-25, renting through Royal Shell. The group consisted of my 17 YO daughter, her 15 YO friend and myself. Daughter's friend's mother (whew), also a family friend, came over for the last 3 days.

Dolphin house has 2 bedrooms/2 bathrooms on the top floor of a stilt type house. Downstairs on the ground level there is an in-law apartment. This unit has its own bedroom w/queen bed and bathroom, as well as a small sitting room w/tv and kitchenette. Kitchenette has a full sized refrigerator and microwave, but no oven. The in-law apartment is adjacent to a laundry room and the garage/storage area. No private pool but there is a backyard wooden deck area that is open and a screened porch adjacent to the inlaw apartment on the ground floor. The backyard is private in the sense of lots of concealing foliage but you do clearly hear anyone using the pools in the houses that back up to this one (Sea of Green is one of those houses). The top floor has a balcony that runs around 3 sides of the house. The balcony is screened on the front, and unscreened on the side of the house and back. The two bedrooms in the upstairs portion open onto the balcony. There is a gas grill on the balcony but we didn't use it. There is an outdoor shower as well as a hose with a nice sprayer attachment. Both of those are useful coming back from the beach area to rinse off before going in.

Price-the weekly cost is quite reasonable for a Captiva property. And when I called, since it was getting close to the week I wanted and the unit was still open, I asked for and got a 10% discount with no haggling.

Location-it is the fifth house from the beach on Wightman so very convenient access to the beach area. I loved how easy it was to stroll back and forth in literally less than a minute.

Front porch-this was screened and very nicely set up with several comfortable wicker or teak tables, chairs etc. The view is of tropical foliage and a quiet path; I took my coffee out every morning to sit and relax. Whether accidental or not there is a huge banana plant (I think) that grows directly in front of the most comfortable chair. Thus, you can sit in jammies or a bathing suit and people watch in peace and quiet.

The kitchen- compared to other areas of the house it seems to have been recently remodeled and is very nice. Granite countertops, full set of Frigidaire appliances including microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator and oven. Nice eating bar area with stools. Fully equipped with dishes, glassware and pots/pans. However, a couple of rather odd missing items such as no corkscrew/wine opener. This surprised me, as there was some rather esoteric gear-for a beach house to have a garlic press but no way to open a bottle of wine seems odd! I bought one at CVS and donated it to the house's future tenants when we left. (So if you ever rent Dolphin House raise a glass to me...). There was a bit of greasy oil in one drawer, which surprised me as the kitchen was otherwise clean and tidy.

The kitchen opens to a great room type area with the tv/sitting area and a nice big dining table. Comfortable couches and a nice big tv with DVD player. However the remote control was broken so the tv and dvd have to be worked manually. I know, a minor thing, and I didn't bother to ask for a replacement. Some days it was the most exercise I think my girls got!

Starting with the more minor and with the caveat I'm a picky person who likes things squeaky clean:

Besides not having a corkscrew, the ice maker in the refrigerator was broken and there were no ice cube trays.

The light switch and door locks were not very well set up, not very well marked and in the case of the switches, quite a few either didn't work or didn't seem to be attached to anything. I noticed this more perhaps because the place we rented last year, Sun & Moon House down the street, had a beautifully labeled and logical set of switches. Several bulbs were burned out in lights around the house. On every exterior door upstairs and down there was an extra dead bolt lever with a label adjacent that said "Hurricane Shutter-Do Not Touch". My daughter accidentally 'touched' one the first night and it was indeed nothing more than a deadbolt lock...very strange.

The bed in my room (master, top floor) was awful. I cannot understand how owners can live with themselves providing such shabby equipment, not to mention sleep in these beds when THEY stay there! This thing was literally rock hard. My daughter stayed with me a couple of nights and she also commented on how uncomfortable the mattress was...and this is a teenage girl who rarely notices or mentions stuff like that.

Although the front areas of the house including kitchen/great room and front patio were nicely set up, the rest of the top floor and lower unit were shabby and worn. For example, the flooring on the patio was tile and in the great room/kitchen area a nice wood look laminate but in the bedrooms there was dingy, worn carpet with stains. The closet door in the master bathroom was off its track and caught on the carpet every time you opened it. The master bathroom desperately needs to be refreshed. Cabinets were cheap and had worn out finishes, the toilet had a padded vinyl seat (yuck) and the bathtub had a broken faucet device so you couldn't actually run bath water, only the shower. Since there is only one tub in the house this could be an issue for anyone with small children or who likes baths. The shower curtain rod was rusty and the shower curtain liner itself had mildew growing on the bottom (yuck again). The second bathroom wasn't as gross but it too was clearly older and could have used new cabinets and lights.

There were bugs throughout the week we stayed there. We saw numerous roaches and large ants. When we checked in Saturday I noticed a few immediately but thought maybe it was only due to the house having been empty the week before. Being a Floridian myself I'm not all that squeamish or judgmental about critters; they are our subtropical neighbors. And of course the vegetation around Dolphin House is not only lovely but does encourage the ecosystem to move inside more easily...however the bugs not only didn't retreat once we got settled but got worse as the week went on. Ants especially: by the end of the week they were all over the kitchen each evening and very annoying. And this was with us being meticulous about emptying the garbage and running the dishwasher daily as well. The roaches were mostly the small type we call 'German roaches', not the big nasty palmetto bugs. But they were very much in evidence the whole week.

The biggest negative is the in-law apartment downstairs. I had assumed from the pictures it was going to be useful additional space for people to stay. The kitchenette was obviously spartan but I figured someone could sleep down there and have their own bathroom then hang out upstairs for meals and entertainment. However as soon as we walked in we noticed a STRONG unpleasant odor. It smelled like mothballs and it was bad. The apartment only had unit air conditioners and again, as a Floridian that doesn't necessarily bother me. But the one in the bedroom was ancient and so noisy that I don't think anyone could have slept well in there. There were also 2 dehumidifiers and maybe the smell came from them. I have to say, other than a guest like my 20 YO son and his friends who don't give a fig about anything, all of us agreed we wouldn't stay in there and we wouldn't expect anyone else to either. When our friend came in late in the week we moved around so she could sleep upstairs with her daughter, and my daughter moved in with me in the master. We never used the downstairs area at all. So in truth this isn't a 3 bedroom/3 bath rental unless you have somebody with exceedingly low standards and/or no sense of smell who can stay downstairs. Usable space is actually limited to the upstairs area. Since the bedrooms are very close to the great room with the tv/DVD player combination anyone going to bed early needs to hope anyone staying up later is quiet and considerate. Otherwise you are going to hear the noise. Luckily I was with 2 quiet considerate kids but it could be an issue.

I do want to praise Royal Shell-for the problems I called about, they were immediately responsive, helpful and pleasant. I dealt with Megan Dixon, a young lady in the Captiva office, and she was a jewel. I called about the ice cube trays-they delivered some in less than an hour. Same for the shower curtain liner-sent someone over to replace the moldy one and put up a brand new liner in the same time period. Unfortunately although they sent maintenance to check the odor complaint, it was not resolved. I suspect this is something basic to the unit because there was actually a guest book comment from 2005(!) that mentioned how nice the house was except for the 'strong stench downstairs'. I did not call about the bugs or missing items but I have no doubt RS would have addressed those as well. Frankly, after calling about the other items I just didn't want to be a pain in the whatever. And for the bugs I didn't want any spraying of pesticides. I don't like to breathe the stuff or have it on surfaces. At home if I have any problems I stick with ant or roach traps. However those take a while to work so I didn't request or buy any for our short stay.

Summary: Dolphin House has the potential to be a very nice rental but it definitely needs a bit of attention and investment from the owners. Remodeled bathrooms and new flooring in the bedrooms would make a huge difference.

As for the lower unit, if somehow they can get rid of the smell that could be a nice bonus area. As it is though, this property really should be marketed as a 2/2, in my opinion. The price is moderate and in that sense I suppose it's a reasonable bargain for the area...but for the same price or even a bit less one could get some other 2/2 houses in the village area or in Sunset Captiva which I suspect would be fresher, less buggy and better set up.

So obvioulsy there is no way to get the equipment back home with you that you may purchase on the Island. Shipping or mailing fees to mail that type of equipment is almost as much as the equipment itself.

Last year we lucked out with our rental and wanted for nothing. More beach equipment than we could have needed, mostly supplied by owner, the owners name was on the items.

This year, 3 broken crappy umbrellas thrown in the corner, two chairs and one pool raft with a hole in it. I realize that there have been many renters in and out of the home before us and equipment destroyed by visitors, but this is a BEACH destination. We come here to go to the BEACH. We rent homes based on how close can we get to the BEACH!

It makes so much sense to me that owners should supply basic beach needs. Maybe they could take inventory after each renter and charge for missing or destroyed equipment and have the ability to replace what's missing for the next renter.

Just some thoughts here based on the many, many items we have purchased over the years and left at rentals. We rented a home on AMI in April that had absoloutly NOTHING for the pool or the beach. We left a few hundred bucks worth of stuff behind including a brand new big beach umbrella. I sure could have used that last week in Captiva!!

At least the broken beach stuff wasn't left on the beach...

Where thing I have mentioned here conductor is very rude Person I asked him when you will take a stop because my sister wants to go for washroom yet he did not stop the bus I don't think so you will take any action on this and conductor is rowdy type men abhi nhi ruke ga 2 baje ruke ga gadi jaa apne seat me so ja ?? very bad experience ??

Life threatening travel!!

If you love your life pls do not travel in dolphin travel house. My father booked ticked to trabel from pithampur(indore) to mumbai in AC bus. The bus came late in midnight and the fully enclosed bus did not have AC. My father was suffocating in the bus and when complained they said they will leave him in an unknown place midnight. Charging point was not provided even we family members coukd not connect. Black oil was leaking from the top all his dress got damaged. When I complained the owner is responding so rudely. I am going to sue this bus company . Pls dont travel in such bus.

I had a booking with Dolphin travels, i also reached my pick up point below flyover near vashi plaza at least 45 mins before the scheduled departure. Because this stop is crowded, most buses accommodate to stop one behind the other. Some buses belonging to dolphin travels stopped ahead towards the Pune road and some near the bus stop at the signal. In order to not risk missing the bus, i chose to stand a little ahead, for the benefit of doubt that the bus had to pass by me and i wouldn't miss it. I watched a lot of dolphin buses stop near the signal and a couple more exactly where i was standing. I was also tracking the bus i was supposed to board on, however, it was updating really late. Apparently the bus i was supposed to board on stopped near the signal, and then were about to leave, i noticed the bus number and waved at them to stop. The driver signalled saying behind was the stop. He eventually stopped after moving about 200-300mts. I had to run with my heavy luggage to catch up. They didn't bother calling me before deciding to leave from that stop. I am sure whenever they get a booking, they have the list of contact numbers and the boarding points of each of the passenger, so why not call the passenger and ask if we are around the boarding point??? How hard is that?

Secondly the luggage keeping section was too dirty, i had no choice but to let them keep my bag in that section.

Thirdly, wierd noise from the bus, as though it is going to crank open or the bus is about to break down.

All in all bad travels' . Don't travel with dolphins ever.

I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction and frustration regarding a recent experience I had while using Dolphin travel bus service. On 16th Sep 2023, I and several other passengers were traveling on one of your buses with the route Mumbai-Shirdi(bus number 6300). Unfortunately, I feel compelled to bring to everyone's attention the grossly unprofessional conduct of one of your bus drivers and the inconvenience we faced during our journey.

At approximately 10.45pm, the bus was scheduled to stop below Airoli bridge bus stop, which was the designated pickup point for several passengers(as agreed with the bus driver before reaching the spot), including myself. I arrived at the bus stop well ahead of the scheduled time, along with other passengers, and we were all waiting patiently. I want to emphasize that the bus driver saw us standing there and made eye contact with us and talked to us about the seat number, which we told him. However, to our shock and disbelief, the bus did not stop.

Not only did the bus fail to stop at the specified location despite our clear presence, but the driver's behavior was also extremely rude when we tried to signal him to stop. His conduct was unbecoming of a professional bus driver, and it left all of us feeling humiliated and mistreated. We did not expect such behavior from a reputed bus service like this.

I believe it is essential for Dolphin to uphold the highest standards of customer service and professionalism. In this instance, the driver's actions not only inconvenienced us but also reflected poorly on your company's reputation.

I kindly request that Dolphin should take the following actions to address this matter:

Investigate the incident thoroughly and take appropriate disciplinary action against the bus driver responsible for this unprofessional conduct(his mobile number 986755xxxx / 959482xxxx).

Ensure that all bus drivers receive proper training in customer service and are reminded of the importance of adhering to scheduled/agreed stops and treating passengers with respect and courtesy.

Provide a formal apology to all passengers who were affected by this incident, including myself, for the inconvenience and humiliation we endured.

Implement a system to prevent such incidents from happening in the future, such as clearer communication between drivers and passengers and strict adherence to scheduled stops.

I sincerely hope that Dolphin will take this complaint seriously and take the necessary steps to rectify the situation. I believe that addressing these issues promptly will help maintain the reputation of company and ensure the satisfaction of customers.

I was traveling from Mumbai to Shrirampur and the driver is very rude. Not even considering people might want to go to washroom. They don't care. My bladder is about to burst. And driver and coordinator asked me to pee in open area.

I am never going to travel through this. Worst ever.

Very bad experience. Seats are comfortable but there was weird sound of machine in the vehicle throughout the Journey. 7:30am was actual reaching time. They made it 10:30 to reach Mumbai. Very poor service in terms of time. They wasted huge time in belgaum almost 3 and half hours. Totally not worth it.

My mother booked this bus from sangmeshwar in emergency as my mother is little bit on healthy side her seat was on the upper case she refused to sit over there and asked for another seat they gave her the last seat without providing charging point and neglecting her complaint every now and then she said she is not comfortable in that seat if someone gets down pls let her sit on the seat they said yes and then many people went but they didn't gave her the seat plus they didn't on the charging point she was so worried because it was night time please do not travel in this bus they don't obey the customers

I had booked ticket for six person from Thane to Shirdi. Traveled by Bus Number MH04GP0099. I had written this issue while travelling dated 19.08.2022. Bus was not clean, Many hole was there in my bed cover, blanket was not provided. Roof top above my seat number 17& 18 was making irritating sound so it not at all possible to sleep, I had complain it to care taker regarding roof sound he told me when bus stop he will solve it out he tried but their was no use. These people don't even have tool kit to solve this. Major issue start once bus crossed kasara Air condition stoped working asked driver regarding this he told AC is not working. All the bus passenger started complaining then driver open roof top for air circulation many small kids where in the bus. It was a horrible journey for all of us.

I will not travel this kind of travel company in future and I will give them minus rating for third class services after charging huge rate.

Dolphin is providing worst service. They don't start/ reach from 1 stop on time. They can change their stop anytime. Driver will not properly guide with the time and route.

They will keep saying reaching reaching.

Not suggest to take its service.

Overall experience is very good & satisfied. Bus is very well clean & travel safely to the point.

Would prefer to travel once again.

Its the worst service by dolhpin.. We had booked bus for 3pm from shirdi to mumbai but the driver called us saying bus is cancelled and reschedule to 10am or 10pm. We took 10am bus then. Till nashik dwarka the bus had passengers with bookings later he just flooded bus like a state transport with no ppl wearing masks and giving tickets much at lower price. Whats the use of we going to in that bus paying 500+ ..also the cleaner and the guy who managed were so rude. Like we people are travelling free of cost. In times of covid atleast they should not have flooded bus with people with no guideline just want to fill in their pockets. I will never recommend anyone. It doesnt deserve 1 rating also.

One of the worst travel operators, completely irresponsible behaviour, no one is wearing mask, will rate a zero in terms of hygiene. Will never ride and would recommend everyone not to ride with them in future.Pathetic staff, coaches not sanitised.

The staff here is pathetic , there are 4 females in bus others r males , the males stopped the bus at 12 n went fr washroom on road , I had asked them about washroom he said he'll stop in 30 mins later as there is no washroom here, it's 2.51 now , I asked him wen will u stop the bus , u know what he replied, you should know where d washroom is ! At the time of booking they show very good condition buses and the end movement bus waschanged it's horrible in conditions the customer travel on won risk with dolphin travels. They charged highly to customers and providing very poor service the didn't sanitize the compartments of the bus. Driver and helper also not polite with the costumers. I pay 3600rs for travelling mumbai to kolhapur and I am cheated from dolphin travels. At present 11.56 pm I have no option at last movement that's why my family and I travel with this ghatiya facility with dolphin travels. I would like to say dont use the dolphin travels if you dont want to take risk.
