You’re at the right place!

In order to help you plan your stay , I have prepared for you this 5 days itinerary in Dubai.

During your trip, you will discover all must-see attractions of the city as well as (if you wish to!) Dubai’s desert or Abu Dhabi , the capital of the United Arabs Emirates.

In addition to the best places to visit and activities for each stage of your itinerary, I will also give you all my best tips and accommodation suggestions depending on your budget.

So, what are the best places to visit in Dubai in 5 days? Where to stay?

Let’s find out!

1. The Dubai Explorer Pass

With more than 15 million tourists every year, Dubai is simply one of the trendiest destination in the world!

Everyone wants to discover its skyscrapers that have emerged from the desert in just a few years as well as all the amazing attractions and activities Dubai has to offer.

The tallest building in the world, the biggest shopping mall or the longest urban zipline: they are all located in Dubai!

Unfortunately, this means endless waiting lines at all the must-see attractions. At the Burj Khalifa , for example, if you don’t have a ticket, you will often have to wait in line at the ticket booth for an hour or two.

It’s as crowded as at the Colosseum in Rome , the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona or the Duomo in Florence !

But don’t worry: there are 2 very simple solutions that will allow you to save a lot of time (and money!) during your 5-day trip to Dubai.

First option: To save time and money, you should buy the Dubai Explorer Pass.

The Dubai Pass works according to the number of visits you want to do: you can choose between 3, 4, 5 or 7 attractions .

Contrary to other City Passes that are duration based (24h, 48h, 72h etc..) , for the Dubai Pass, only the number of activities you want to do matters.

So you can do all the activities in one day or spread them over the 5 days of your stay in Dubai.

The City Pass is valid for 30 days from the first activation . This is very convenient!

The Dubai Explorer Pass offers more than 50 activities .

Of course, the most famous attractions such as the Burj Khalifa , the desert excursion and the Aquaventure Waterpark are included in the Dubai Explorer Pass!

To get your Dubai Explorer Pass, it’s very simple: you just have to click on the green button located at the end of this section and choose the number of activities (3/4/5/7) you will want to do in Dubai.

Once you have ordered your Dubai Pass, you will receive a confirmation email with a voucher. This voucher is the City Pass. You can print it or show it on your smartphone at the entrance of each tourist attraction.

In addition to the voucher, the email contains a lot of useful information to organize your visits: Opening hours, directions …

They will also tell you if you need to book a time slot (for example, for the Burj Khalifa) or if you can go there when you want (Aquaventure Park, Aquarium…).

Here is the summary of the most popular attractions included in the Dubai Explorer Pass :

  • Burj Khalifa: Access to the 124th and 125th floor observation deck – time slot must be booked in advance
  • Aquarium and Underwater Zoo
  • Ticket for the Hop On Hop Off Bus
  • Cruise in the Marina or in Dubai Creek
  • Aquaventure Waterpark, at the Atlantis Hotel
  • Desert Excursion with Barbecue Dinner – Needs to be booked in advance
  • Motiongate Dubai
  • Legoland Dubai
  • IMG Worlds of Adventure.

If you already know your travel dates (or as soon as you will have them!) , you should really book your accommodation.

As Dubai is one of the most touristic cities in the world , the hotels offering the best value for money are often fully booked months in advance.

As a seasoned traveler, I can assure you that it’s always by planning as far in advance as possible that I’ve found the best hotels or apartments deals.

You agree that it would be a shame to somewhat ruin your stay in Dubai by ending up in a not-so-great hotel that costed you a fortune, right? 😅

So your best bet is to take 5 minutes now to have a look at  traveler’s favorite hotels in Dubai.

And if you like one of the hotels you find, book it!

It’s fast, it’s easy and most accommodation offer free cancellation. That’s the best way to protect yourself from the inconvenience of finding nothing but mediocre rooms at exorbitant prices.

5 days in Dubai: the best itinerary

Let’s now start your 5 day itinerary in Dubai!

For each day, I will give you all the details you need to plan your visits + a map that will allow you to visualize the itinerary a bit better.

I’m assuming you will be staying in Dubai for 5 full days and that you will be using the Dubai Explorer Pass or have purchased Skip-the-Line tickets . It’s the best way to save time and money during your 5 day stay!

If you still have questions after reading this article (or need help organizing your holiday), don’t hesitate to ask me in the comments section located at the very end of this article.

I will be glad to help you plan your trip 😄.

So, what are the best things to do in Dubai in 5 days?

Day 1 – Old Dubai

Dubai itinerary day 1

Day 1 visits:

A. Deira district B. Bur Dubai C. Dubai Museum D. Dubai Frame E. Dubai Garden Glow

Your 5-day itinerary starts in Deira , one of Dubai’s oldest districts.

Here, far from the skyscrapers of the city center, you will discover the typical atmosphere of the Middle East.

First, you should take a walk through Deira district and discover:

  • The Gold Souk , with its imposing gold jewellery (very impressive but maybe a bit difficult to wear in everyday life! 😅 – see picture below). But don’t worry, if you’re looking for something more discreet, you’ll find it too.
  • The Perfume Souk, located on Sikkat Al Khail Street. You can’t get lost, just follow the smells!
  • The spice souk and its countless spices: curry, chili pepper, saffron….

The best way to discover Deira and its souks is to opt for a guided tour!

Your tour guide will tell you everything about old Dubai and the local lifestyle .

And if, during your 3-hour tour, you want to buy souvenirs, he can also help you bargain down the prices while shopping in the souks.

*This guided tour of Deira and Bur Dubai includes everything from section A to C of this first day itinerary.

Book your guided tour of Old Dubai by clicking on the button below:

To get to Deira, take the metro to Al Ras station.

It is a very good idea to start your 5-day Dubai itinerary in Deira district for a very simple reason : it’s the best place in Dubai to change your money!

The exchange rates are better here than at the airport or in the malls.

In Dubai, Friday is a holy day (like Sunday in Europe). Shops in Deira (and in other parts of Dubai) are usually closed in the morning and reopen in the late afternoon.

Deira Gold Souk Dubai

Bur Dubai is the second neighborhood you should visit in Old Dubai.

To get there from Deira , it’s very easy: you just have to cross the river!

To do so, you will need to take an abra (small traditional boat) for 1 AED per person. It will take only a few minutes to reach Bur Dubai.

Here are the best places to visit in Bur Dubai:

  • Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum’s house: documents about the city’s history are kept here. It is not mandatory to visit, but it’s a very pleasant place for a short stroll.
  • The Old Souk, where you can find souvenirs of all kinds: magnets, plushies, bags and more. Don’t forget to negotiate the prices!
  • Hindi Lane and Meena Bazaar: An Indian area with beautiful fabrics and traditional Indian restaurants. You can eat traditional Indian food for a good price there!
  • Sheikh Mohamed Cultural Center: Every day, lunches are organized in a traditional house with an inhabitant of Dubai. You need to Click here to book it.
  • Al-Seef Market : a very nice place to take a stroll, featuring restaurants and shops in traditional houses replicas.

As Bur Dubai is located on the shores of Creek river, it’s the starting point of dinner cruises in Dubai. It’s a great way to enjoy a boat ride on the river and discover the city from another angle!

This boat trip is offered in 2 versions (click on the orange links for more details):

  • A traditional boat cruise + Buffet dinner + Demonstration of local folk dances
  • A luxury cruise with gourmet dinner .

A cruise is also included in the Dubai Explorer Pass .

Bur Dubaï Old Souk

Visiting the Dubai Museum is the best way to learn more about the history of the city!

The museum traces the entire history of Dubai : you will learn more about the first tribes who lived there and see how the rapid growth during the 1960’s economic boom turned Dubai into a modern city.

And last but not least, you will discover the crazy future plans for the coming years.

You will see, the museum is very interesting and is a great way to understand the evolution of the city.

The entrance fee is 3 AED only, so you have no reason to skip this visit!

*Please note that the museum is closed on Friday mornings.

Dubai Museum

During your 5-day trip to Dubai, you will for sure want to explore the modern part of the city too!

And for that, there’s no better way to start than to head to Dubai’s brand new attraction: The Dubai Frame.

You will now immersed in a whole different world, far away from the atmosphere of old Dubai.

You can climb to the top of this 150-meter high structure in the shape of a giant photo frame and enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of 2 completely different parts of Dubai : Old Dubai on one side and Downtown (Burj Khalifa) on the other.

Up there, a part of the floor is made of glass: it’s very impressive!

As the Dubai Frame quickly became one of the most popular tourist attraction in the city , there are always very long waiting lines at the ticket office.

Since it’s not included in the Dubai Explorer Pass, be sure to buy your ticket in advance by clicking here:

To get to the Dubai Frame from Old Dubai, you have 2 options:

  • Take the metro at Al Fahidi station and get off at Al Jafiliya station .
  • Take a taxi: the Dubai Frame is located only 5 km away from the museum. It’s cheap and the taxi will drop you off closer.

Dubai Frame

After your visit to the Dubai Frame, let’s now head to Dubai Garden Glow, your last visit of this 1st day.

This large park features hundreds of sculptures coming to life every evening during light shows with musical backgrounds.

Everyone will for sure love the place, it’s really perfect for a family outing!

The entrance ticket to Dubai Garden Glow costs 65 AED . It also includes entrance to the dinosaur park located in the same area.

Some of the dinosaurs move and growl when you walk close to them, kids really love it!

You should start your visit to the Dinosaur Park a bit before sunset and visit the Dubai Garden Glow at nightfall .

Dubai Garden glow is open from 4pm to 11pm.

At the same location, you can also visit the following parks (you can choose the parks you want to visit at the ticket office):

  • Magic Park (30 AED): there, you can take funny pictures based on optical illusions in a 3D decor.
  • Ice Park for (45 AED): it’s not really worth it in my opinion, it’s a bit too expensive to see a few ice sculptures.

Dubai Garden Glow

Day 2: Best things to do and activities in Dubai

Dubai itinerary day 2

Day 2 visits:

A. Etihad Museum B. Jumeirah Mosque C. La Meer D. Dubai Mall E. Dubai Fountain Show F. Burj Khalifa

You will start the second day of your 5-day itinerary in Dubai with a visit to Etihad Museum .

Here, you will learn more about the Declaration of Union and the creation of the United Arab Emirates in 1971.

Films, testimonies and interactive terminals will teach you everything about the history of the treaty and its founders, the 7 Sheikhs of the Emirates .

The Etihad Museum perfectly complements Dubai Museum: by visiting both, you will get a global vision of the country .

Plan about 1 hour for your visit . The entrance ticket costs 25 AED.

To get to the Etihad Museum, take the subway to the World Trade Center station and then a taxi.

Etihad Museum Dubai

Located only 10-minute walk from the Etihad Museum, the Jumeirah Mosque is the only mosque in the Dubai that is open to non-Muslims .

You can visit it with a guided tour and learn about the traditions and the 5 pillars of Islam.

There are 2 tours per day (except Fridays): one starts at 10am and the other at 2pm . They last about 1h15 .

Please note that you can only enter the mosque with your legs and shoulders covered (this applies to both men and women). In addition, women must also cover their hair .

Jumeirah Mosque is located 10 minutes on foot from the Etihad Museum and on the way to the next stop of this itinerary. So even if you don’t want to take the tour, you can at least admire its architecture as you walk by .

If you want to take the guided tour , you should rather visit the mosque first and then go to Etihad Museum, as the latter doesn’t open until 10am.

Since the mosque is only a 10-minute walk from the Etihad Museum, it doesn’t make much difference.

Jumeirah Mosque Dubai

After the mosque, head towards the sea to reach La Mer , a promenade where you’ ll find plenty of restaurants and cafes with waterfront terraces.

As its name suggests, the place is located by the sea: from there, you can access several beaches or go to a water park with slides and swimming pools.

From the boardwalk, you can also enjoy a great view over the Dubai skyline and the Burj Khalifa in the distance.

La Mer Dubai

Now, you should take a taxi and head to Dubai Mall (5km) .

The most visited shopping mall in the world has almost 1200 stores for every taste and budget.

And even if you aren’t a fan of shopping, you will surely find your happiness here: Several Cinemas, an ice rink, a go-kart track and a flight simulator will keep you busy!

While at the Dubai Mall, you should also visit Dubai aquarium and underwater zoo : you will see sharks, rays, and all kinds of fish from around the world. But the star of the aquarium is undoubtedly “ King Croc” , one of the largest living crocodiles in the world .

To avoid waiting in line and save money, you should really buy your tickets online in advance .

There are 2 types of tickets for the aquarium (click on the links to book):

  • The classic: Aquarium + Underwater Zoo ticket
  • A combined ticket: Aquarium + Underwater Zoo + Burj Khalifa – Certainly the most interesting for you , as you will visit the Burj Khalifa at the end of the day. A great way to save money!

The aquarium and underwater zoo is included in the Dubai Explorer Pass .

In the Dubai Mall (and in general in Dubai) you must wear decent clothes : your legs and shoulders must be covered. Signs of affection such as kissing or holding hands are not allowed.

Dubai Mall

When night falls, leave the mall and head towards the fountains located outside the mall .

The Dubai Fountain Show takes place between 6pm and 11pm, every 30 minutes.

As it’s super touristy, plan to get there a bit early to secure a good spot to enjoy the show!

You can also admire the spectacle up close and benefit from a better vantage point b y opting for an abra tour on the lake !

It needs to be booked by clicking the button below:

For a very good view over the fountains , you can also go to the 2 terraces of the Apple Store located in the Dubai Mall.

Dubai Fountains

To end this second day in style, you will visit the famous Burj Khalifa. You can’t miss that visit during your 5-day itinerary in Dubai!

You’ve probably been admiring it from the outside all day and taking pictures from every possible angle, but now it’s time to go up 😄.

From the observation deck of the 124th and 125th floors of the world’s tallest tower , the view is simply breathtaking.

To enjoy it at its best you should really go there in the evening , when the whole city is lit up.

And if the 125th floor isn’t high enough for your, you can go up to the 148th floor , 555 meters above the ground.

As going to the Burj Khalifa is clearly the number 1 thing to do for anyone going to Dubai, there is always a long waiting line there.

It’s therefore imperative to buy your ticket in advance on the internet, else you will wait for hours and they might even tell you to come back on the next day if there isn’t any timeslot available anymore!

Various ticket combinations are available (click on the orange links for information and to book):

  • Ticket At The Top Burj Khalifa – Access to the 124th and 125th floor
  • VIP At The Top Sky ticket – Access to the 148th floor of the Burj Khalifa + 124th and 125th floors + fast track entry at the security checkpoints and the elevator
  • Ascent to the 124th floor + dinner at the Burj Club restaurant.

If you want to visit the Aquarium and Burj Khalifa , you should buy this ticket:

Access to Burj Khalifa is included in the Dubai Explorer Pass .

To get to the Burj Khalifa , go to the LG level of Dubai Mall and then follow the signs “At The Top Burj Khalifa .”

Burj Khalifa view

Thanks to the metro , it’s super easy to get around the city to visit the most famous tourist attractions. And if you prefer taxis, they are everywhere and quite cheap.

Here are the best things to do in Dubai with your family:

Andrei Malutan

your article is very helpful. Thank you for all the info.

Can you specify if Dubai explorer pass includes skip the line type of entrance?

Vincent

Hello Andrei,

You’re welcome, I am glad my guide of Dubai is helping you to plan your stay!

The tickets included in the Dubai explorer pass are similar to the skip the line tickets sold one by one: you won’t have to queue up at the ticket offices to get anything.

You will just have to do the security check at the Burj Khalifa (same as people purchasing the “At The Top” skip the line tickets), as this is mandatory.

Enjoy your 5-day stay in Dubai!

Five Days in Dubai – The Best Travel Itinerary

Five Days in Dubai – The Best Travel Itinerary

You plan to spend 5 days in Dubai, and you don’t want to waste your vacation just getting tanned on the beach? Kudos to you! Dubai is so much more than golden beaches and luxury restaurants, and since you managed to find this post, you’ll see the very best of it and have a trip to remember!

This 5-day Dubai itinerary is designed to take you around the modern marvels of downtown Dubai, the vintage alleys of Old Dubai, the serenity of the desert, and of course, show you the fun and relaxing parts of the emirate.

Are you ready for a sunny adventure? Let’s go!

Five days in Dubai – Day 1 – Modern Marvels

5-days-in-dubai-burj-khalifa-surrounded-by-dendelions

On the first day of our jam-packed 5 days in Dubai itinerary, we will explore the shiny and modern part of the emirate. Built in the last 20 years, downtown Dubai likes to break records and walking around it really feels like teleporting into the future of humanity.

5-day-dubai-itinerary-camel-statue-in-a-mall-souk

Yes, we start our adventure in a mall. Sounds weird, right? It felt strange to me too, but the Dubai Mall is not simply a mall; it’s one of the biggest malls on the planet! I’d like to tell you that I explored it all, but honestly, this was beyond my capabilities. The shopping center is as big as a village (12 million square feet – equivalent to more than 50 football fields), and navigating it without a map would be a challenge even for Bear Grylls.

dubai-mall-ice-rink

I’m pretty sure every world-famous brand has a store inside the Dubai Mall, but there’s more than shopping you can do there. Go check out the Souk area (that is made like an Arabian market), take a selfie with the waterfall (of course they have a waterfall), go skating on the ice rink (that is enormous) and when finished, check out the next iconic Dubai attraction bellow.

Working Hours: Mon – Thur: 10:00 AM – 12:00 AM Fri – Sun: 10:00 AM – 01:00 AM

How to get there: Take a red line metro to Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa station

Castaway Tip Dubai Mall has an app that includes a map(  Apple Store  /  Google Store ). Seriously, it’s like google maps just for the mall and helps tremendously navigating this beast-of-a-shopping center.

Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo

5-day-dubai-itinerary-glass-tunnel-in-dubai-aquarium

Located inside the Dubai Mall, the Dubai Aquarium is an iconic attraction you shouldn’t miss. With a capacity to hold 10 million liters of water, this aquarium is one of the biggest indoor aquariums on Earth (of course it is) and presents a wonderful experience no matter if you’re by yourself, with your SO, or with your entire family.

The journey begins with a walk through a glass tunnel surrounded by all sorts of incredible marine creatures. Weird fish, rays, mantas, all kinds of sharks, a swordfish (!), and occasionally a diver (tasked with cleaning the place) all swim around you. I promise you, if you haven’t been to such a tunnel before, it’s jaw-dropping. If you have – still jaw-dropping.

man-walking-inside-dubai-mall-secret-aquarium

Castaway Tip If you want to take good photos, go before closing time when there are hardly any people.

Next, you go to the zoo part where you can enjoy otters, a funny water rat, some weird amphibian creatures, several night creepers, a couple of giant crocs, and plenty of fish and turtles while parrots fly freely above you.

If you get the extra package, you’ll also go on a glass floor boat above the main tank, feed some of the fish, check out the penguins, and see the working process behind the aquarium.

curious-penguin-in-dubai-aquarium

The ultimate experience (which I discovered too late) is diving in the aquarium. Yes, you can go inside with the sharks, but you need to have a diving certificate. If not, you can get a diving course there or just go snorkeling. Diving in an aquarium surely won’t be the same as diving in the ocean, but at least the wildlife encounters are guaranteed this way.

Working Hours: Mon – Fri: 10:00 AM – 10:15 PM Sat – Sun: 10:00 AM – 11:15 AM

Prices: Regular ticket Explorer ticket Aquarium + Burj Khalifa Combo Penguin Cove, Ultimate Experience and various animal encounters

Burj Khalifa

5-day-dubai-itinerary-burj-khalifa-next-to-a-pooljpg

Since 2009, Burj Khalifa has been the symbol of modern Dubai. With a total height of 829.8 m (2,722 ft) (just over half a mile), the skyscraper is the tallest building on the planet and will continue to be like that for at least a few more years (they are already building a taller tower, again in Dubai).

Being one of the most emblematic structures on the planet, Burj Khalifa has tight security, and you can’t simply go inside to check out the views. What you can do is, book a ticket and visit a viewing platform. There are a couple of options here:

  • You can get a regular ticket and see the panorama from the 124th-125th floors.
  • You can get a premium experience and go even higher on the 148th floor, receive personalized attention and see the world’s tallest observation deck.

sunrise-view-from-burj-khalifa

You also have to choose your visiting hours carefully:

  • You can go at sunrise, see Dubai both at night and day, and watch the dawn while having not that many people around you (negatives here – you have to wake up at 4:00 AM and you miss the fountain show).
  • You can go in the middle of the day where crowds are not that fierce ( you won’t have to wake up early, but you get the worst light of the day, and you miss the night panorama)
  • You can go at sunset and see the Dubai panorama during the day and night, enjoy the dusk and even wait to see a fountain show (of course, this is the most popular time, and the deck is swarming with tourists and the ticket is more expensive)
  • And you can go after dark when again, crowds are not that fierce, and you can see the fountain shows (but you miss the daily views, and you probably won’t be able to take good photos with your phone).

All timeslots have advantages and disadvantages, so it’s up to you. If you decide to go for the premium 148th floor, I suggest sunset since the crowds there are not that thick.

Working Hours: 5:00 AM (for sunrise experience) – 9:00 PM (latest timeslot)

Prices: Regular ticket  (more expensive for sunset hours) Premium ticket  (includes 145th floor) Sunrise ticket Combo Dubai Aquarium + Burj Khalifa Observation deck + lunch/dinner VIP Lounge (levels 152, 153, and 154)

The Fountain Show

dubai-fountain-show

The Burj Khalifa fountain show is precisely what it sounds like… and not. It’s a dancing fountain show, something you can see in plenty of other cities in the world, but it’s so well-made that it goes on the next level of mesmerizing. I have no idea who the program director (choreographer?) is, but they are a genius! So whatever you do, don’t miss the fountain show, it’s one of the very best things you can do during your 5 days in Dubai, and it’s free.

The fountain show plays every 30 minutes, but on the 15th minute, you get a Burj Khalifa lightning show that, in some cases, is even better. It’s a visual show where the skyscraper changes its colors while the fountains complement the music with their dancing. It’s one of those things you can’t adequately explain in words, but you just have to witness yourself.

burj-khalifa-with-blue-projectors

The best place to enjoy the show is on the bridge across the Burj. Of course, you can also get an elevated perspective and see it from the Nike or Apple stores (or a restaurant) inside the Dubai Mall, but while you’ll see all of the fountains, Burj Khalifa won’t be in sight.

Working Hours: Daily 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM (Every 30 minutes) Burj Khalifa lightning show: 6:15 PM – 10:45 PM (Every 30 minutes)

Prices: Free Cruise Burj lake on an abra boat between the dancing fountains

Five days in Dubai – Day 2 – Desert Adventure

5-days-in-dubai-4x4-in-the-desert

On the second day, our 5-day Dubai itinerary makes a 180′ shift, and from Downtown Dubai, we go into the desert for some sand adventures and an evening camp show.

There are plenty of desert tour options that seemingly offer the same experience, but the quality of the more popular ones is vastly better compared to the cheaper tours.

Here’s what a 7-hour desert tour is like: First, you stop at a mini-camp for a  quad-bike ride . This usually is an extra, and you have to pay for it. If you’re not into quad-bikes, you can go in the tent and enjoy Arab coffee (with dates) or tea. There’s also a gift shop where you can get Arabian scarfs and have one of the staff put it on you the desert-way. They are not that expensive and make up for a good photo.

quad-wheels-in-the-desert

Next, you get in your 4×4 and go for a  dune bashing . What’s a dune bashing, you ask? I had the same question. This is not my first desert rodeo, but I’ve never seen this activity offered anywhere else. So the dune bashing is basically drifting around the dunes, and honestly, it was not my cup of tea. It looks great from the outside, but inside the car, it feels like you’re just cramped in a crazy-driving taxi. Nevertheless, plenty of the other guests loved it, so I guess you have to try it to see if it’s your thing.

Activity no3 is  sandboarding . Now, this was pretty cool. If you don’t know what sandboarding is – it’s the same as snowboarding but on sand. I’ve never tried it before, but it was tons of fun, although climbing back the dune was exhausting. Even if you fall, the silky sand makes it painless, so there’s nothing to worry about. This is also the time to walk around the dunes and breathe in the desert landscape. It’s always a mesmerizing feeling.

sandboard-in-the-desert

After you’re done, you start making your way to the desert camp. If your guide is good, you should arrive there a little before sunset. You get to feed and ride a camel (surprisingly pretty well-behaved ones), and even though it’s a short 20-30 meters ride, if you’ve never done it before, you’ll enjoy the experience (and if you’ve done it, you already know riding camels for a long time is not that pleasurable anyway).

You can spectate the sunset from a dune and then go inside the camp where you get drinks, buffet, shisha, Henna-painting, a falcon to take photos with, traditional Arabian sweets (like mini-donuts), and some incredible performers. Finally, the night ends with stargazing, although this activity wasn’t that impressive since some camp lamps couldn’t be shut down.

5-days-in-dubai-people-on-camels

The Dubai desert is not the most authentic desert experience (barely any locals take part in it), but it still gives you a taste of this incredible habitat and is something you shouldn’t leave out of your 5-day Dubai itinerary.

Five days in Dubai – Day 3 – Old Dubai

boat-in-old-dubai

On the third of our 5 days in Dubai adventure, we’re about to explore one of the heart-stopping attractions of the city and then spend the day getting familiar with the previous incarnation of this amazing emirate.

Dubai Frame

5-day-dubai-itinerary-dubai-fram-from-bellow

Cоmpleted in 2018, the Dubai Frame is a 3-way exposition of Dubai, although one part vastly overshadows the other two.

Wait, I thought the Dubai Frame is this giant frame you can climb to? Yes, that’s precisely what it is, but before you climb to the top, you go through a tiny museum that showcases the emirate’s history. This part is named the Old Dubai.

Once up there, you get a 360′ view of the present city logically named Present Dubai. This skydeck, of course, is the main attraction of the frame and the reason most people visit the place. The top stands at 150.24 m (493 ft) and has something called a smart-glass floor that becomes transparent when you step on it. Even though the glass is not crystal-clear, it’s so tall that you get this immediate desire to grab something next to you.

view-from-dubai-frame

When you go down, you see the third part of the exposition – Future Dubai. It’s a 180 degrees projection hall that simulates flying around Dubai in the year 2050. The vision these guys have for the future is straight taken out of a sci-fi movie, and even if they complete half of the things they envision, it’s going to be mindblowing.

Working Hours: Daily 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM Prices: Regular tickets + all sorts of combo tickets  Dubai Frame guided tour Frame + Transfers How to get there: Take a red line metro to Al Jafiliya station

Castaway Tip The frame is located inside Zabeel Park that requires an entrance fee. Don’t go through the park but use the Dubai Frame separate entrance. On your way out, you can still go through the park (for free).

Old Town Dubai

5-days-in-dubai-old-town-crossroad

Our 5-day Dubai itinerary continues in the less-visited part of the city – the Old Town of Dubai. Inside the Frame, you got a quick glimpse of what Dubai used to be, but now we’re about to see it firsthand.

Travel by metro (or taxi) to the Al Ras station and start your exploration from the  Deira souks  (Arabian markets). Check out the spice souk and, of course, the world-renounced gold souk. If you want to get some souvenirs, keep in mind that in the Arabian souks, haggling is mandatory and expected by the shopkeepers.

5-days-in-dubai-inside-a-lantern-shop

Once finished, take an  abra  across the river (should cost 1 AED) and make your way to the  Heritage Village . Perfectly restored to its former glory, the place looks a bit artificial but wonderfully showcases the past architecture of the city. Make sure also to check the House of Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum that used to be the home of one of Dubai’s previous rulers.

House of Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum Working Hours: Sat – Thur: 8:00 AM – 8:30 PM Friday: 3:00 PM – 8:30 PM Price: Regular: 15 AED/ 4 USD

Next, we go to the  Dubai Museum  (you may get a taxi or Careem if you don’t fancy a walk). Dubai museum is housed in an authentic 18th-century fort and has a beautiful multimedia display of Dubai’s cultural heritage.

Dubai Museum Working Hours: Sat – Thur: 8:30 AM – 8:30 PM Friday: 2:30 PM – 8:30 PM Price: Regular: 3 AED/ 0.8 USD

Next to the museum, we have  Al Fahidi historic neighborhood , a mid 19th century quarter with much of the original infrastructure preserved and intact. It’s turned into somewhat of an art district with plenty of exhibitions around.

streets-of-old-dubai

End the third of your 5 days in Dubai, exploring and having dinner on  Al Seef Street . Hugging 1.8km (1.1mi) of Dubai Creek’s shoreline, the heritage quarter was once the gateway to the Gulf’s best pearl diving port and is a perfect blend of traditional and modern Dubai.

And if you want a guide to tell you all the stories behind the buildings, here are two great options: Old Dubai Walking tour + street food Old Dubai walking tour + tea

Five days in Dubai – Day 4 – Beach Galore

drone-shot-of-burj-al-arab-and-dubai-beaches

It’s the fourth day of our 5-day Dubai itinerary, and the fatigue probably starts to show, so now is the best time to sit back and unwind on one of the city’s famous beaches.

sunbeds-on-a-dubai-beach

Dubai has plenty of public beaches, and all of them seem incredible. My favorite would be The Beach (original naming alert). It’s the beachfront complex at the Jumeirah Beach Residences (known simply as JBR), offers plenty of activities for the whole family, and it’s close to a Ferris wheel that is perfect for sunset watching.

If you want the flawless Dubai beach photo, you need to go to Jumeirah Public Beach or Burj Al Arab Beach, where you get the sail-shaped hotel as your background. Umm Suqeim Beach (also known as the sunset beach) is also a great contender in this category.

5-day-dubai-itinerary-burj-al-arab-beach

Other popular beaches include Kite Beach (where everybody seems to be flying kites), La Mer (and its vast shopping area), Palm West Beach (if your hotel is on the Palm Island), and Atlantis hotel’s WHITE Beach (this one has admission charge which is usually 50 percent redeemable against your food and beverage bill). If you need more info, here you can see all the best Dubai beaches and pick the right one for you .

ain-dubai-on-sunset

If you’ve decided to spend the day on The Beach or Marina Beach, Ain Dubai is right next to you and is the perfect place to watch the sunset from.

Rising 250m (820ft) in the sky, the world’s largest and tallest observation wheel is a brand new city attraction that’s been welcoming visitors since October 2021. One ride is approximately 38 minutes which you spend in glass cabins that give you a 360′ view of seaside Dubai and Palm Jumeirah.

Working Hours: Tue and Wed: 10:00 AM – 9:00 PM Thur – Sat: 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM Prices: Regular – 130 AED / 35 USD Plus – 380 AED / 103 USD (Lounge access) Private cabin – 775 AED / 211 USD

Five days in Dubai – Day 5 – Time to Have Some Fun

5-days-in-dubai-cat-made-of-flowers

Our 5 days in Dubai are almost over, and it’s time to have some fun! On our last day, we will explore the entertainment activities the emirate has to offer. But since fun means different things to different people and Dubai has plenty of attractions in this category, I’m going to list my favorites and let you pick the one that suits you best.

Aquaventure Water Park

aquaventure-panorama

Dubai’s Aquaventure is the largest water park in the world (it’s a Dubai thing to have the biggest things). It features record-breaking 105 waterslides and attractions, a marine life academy, and a 1km-long private beach. One of the slides even goes under a shark tank! The only negative is it’s located at the end of Palm Jumeirah, but it’s easily accessible via Dubai’s monorail.

Working Hours: Daily: 9:45 AM – 6:30 PM Prices: Regular Aquaventure + Lost Chambers Aquarium combo How to get there: Take Dubai monorail to its last stop

The Miracle Garden

miracle-gardens-panorama-in-dubai

The Miracle Garden are girls’ Instagram heaven. Located in the district of Dubailand, the enormous garden features more than 150 million flowers in full bloom and countless flower-made statues, including a real-size Emirates plane! A bit boring if you’re a guy but dream-come-true for all the ladies.

Working Hours: Mon – Fri: 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM Sat – Sun: 9:00 AM – 11:00 PM Prices: Regular ticket Ticket + transfer How to get there: Take bus no105 from the Mall of Emirates (5 AED, Daily pass does not work for this one)

rolling-balls-in-dubai-ski

Ski Dubai is one of the most peculiar attractions in the world. It’s a ski slope located inside the Emirates Mall. Yes, an entire slope with the chairlifts and stuff! It has everything a typical ski resort has, including bobsledding, tubing, tobogganing, wall climbing, zorbing, and snow bumpers. Oh, there’s also a penguin area with King and Gentoo Penguins. Of course, there’s no need to bring winter clothes or ski gear to Dubai; you can rent everything on the spot.

Working Hours: Mon – Thur: 10:00 AM – 11:00 PM Fri: 10:00 AM – 12:00 AM Sat – Sun: 9:00 AM – 12:00 AM Penguin March – 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM Prices: Ski tickets Snow Park tickets How to get there: Get a metro to the Emirates Mall station

Skydive Dubai

five-days-in-dubai-skydiving-over-the-palm

For the adventure seekers, Skydive Dubai offers skydiving over the desert or Palm Jumeirah. I know you can go skydiving in pretty much any country in the world, but I don’t think you can get a more impressive view than the one you get in Dubai. That’s why the only skydive I have on my impossible bucket list is precisely this one!

Prices: All prices here Dropzones: You can see them both here

IMG Worlds of Adventure

inside-img-park

There may not be a Disneyland in Dubai, but there are plenty of other great theme parks to compensate. Worlds of Adventure is the largest indoor theme park on the planet (what a surprise), featuring 5 adventure zones and 22 rides, spread across 1.5 million square feet.

From Marvel heroes to dinosaurs, Worlds of Adventure guarantees fun times and an exciting end to your 5 days in Dubai adventure.

Working Hours: Mon – Thur: 12:00 PM – 10:00 PM Fri – Sun: 12:00 PM – 11:00 PM Prices: Regular tickets + combos Dubai Guided Tour + theme park tickets How to get there: Take a taxi from the Mall of the Emirates or buses no 27, C7, C9

Bollywood Parks

More than 5 days in Dubai

You have more than five days in Dubai, or you want to switch something on the itinerary? Here are some extra Dubai attractions:

Atlantis the Lost Chamber Aquarium

five-day-dubai-itinerary-man-watching-a-tank-in-lost-chambers-aquarium

Home to over 65,000 sea creatures, the Lost Chamber is the biggest aquarium in the Middle East and Africa. It’s located in the Atlantis hotel at the crest of the Palm Jumeirah island and offers more than 20 marine life exhibits, including a touch tank and an interactive Aquatheatre show. In my opinion, this aquarium is better than the one in the Dubai Mall, but its location makes it harder to put in your 5-day Dubai itinerary.

Working Hours: Daily: 10:00 AM – 9:00 PM Prices: Regular Snorkeling Diving Combo with Aquventure waterpark

Museum of the Future

5-day-dubai-itinerary-museum-of-the-future

Dubai’s latest attraction is the Museum of the Future, and there’s no better place on the planet to build a museum like this. Showcasing UAE’s vision for the upcoming years, this curious museum is housed in one of the most visually impressive buildings I’ve seen anywhere in the world.

Working Hours: Daily: 9:30 AM – 8:30 PM Prices: Regular

Burj al Arab

man-in-front-of-burj-al-arab

Completed in 1999, Burj Al Arab is the original flagship attraction of modern Dubai and one of the most luxurious hotels on the planet. Since not that many people can afford to spend 3000 USD per night, the hotel is also offering a tour of its opulent grounds. So, if you have the spare time, getting inside the original “home of luxury”, learning about its history, and even visiting the Royal Sweet surely sounds like an exciting experience! Working Hours and prices

View from the Palm

view-from-the-palm-at-sunset

While the world was closed for tourism (including Dubai), the ambitious sheiks didn’t waste their time and built another attraction. Burj Khalifa may be as tall as a mountain giving excellent views of pretty much all of the emirate, but there’s one thing it cannot see that well – the Palm Jumeirah island.

That’s why the 240 meters high Palm Tower hotel was built, featuring a panoramic, 360-degree deck on the roof.  The Palm is a bit tricky to get to, but you should definitely put this experience in your 5-day Dubai itinerary if your hotel is somewhere on the island.

Working Hours: Sun – Wed: 10:00 AM – 11:00 PM Thur – Sat: 10:00 AM – 12:00 AM Prices: All types of tickets

Blue Mosque

interior-of-blue-mosque-in-dubai

The Al Farooq Omar Bin Al Khattab Mosque is also known as the Blue Mosque due to its resemblance to the original Blue Mosque in Istanbul. It’s one of the only three mosques open for tourist visitations in UAE (the other two being Jumeirah Mosque and Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi).

While small, the Blue Mosque has a lovely interior, and the only reason I didn’t put it on the 5-day Dubai itinerary is due to its location (no metro stations or other notable attractions around).

Working Hours: Sunday – Thursday: 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM and 4:15 PM to 6:00 PM Prices: Free

Jumeirah Mosque

5-day-subai-itinerary-jumeirah-mosque

As mentioned above, the Jumeirah Mosque is also open for non-muslim tourist visitations. Built in a traditional  Fatimid  style that originated from Syria and Egypt, even though a little small, this temple looks stunning, and it’s worth checking it out if you are somewhere in the area.

The problem is you probably won’t find yourself in that area, and if you want to go inside the mosque, you have to be there at exactly 10:00 AM or 2:00 PM (only guided visits are allowed, no tours on Friday), which makes it too much of a hassle.

Working Hours: Saturday – Thursday at 10:00 AM or 2:00 PM Prices: 40 AED / 11 USD

Ras al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary

flamingo-in-a-nature-reserve

Ras Al Khor is a wetland reserve located a little far from the central part of the city. It’s home to mainly birds, fish, and small mammals, but its mascot and most famous inhabitants are the pink flamingoes. So if you want to see these peculiar birds in their natural habitat or bird-watching is a hobby of yours, you should definitely add Ras al Khor to your 5-day Dubai itinerary.

Working Hours: October to March – 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM April to September – 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM Fridays – 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM Flamingo feeding hours (best time to visit) – around 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM Prices: Free

Camel races

camel-racing-in-dubai

Al Marmoom Camel Race Track is located quite far from the city, and it’s not an attraction for everybody, but it’s certainly a unique experience. One of the last attractions in Dubai that highlight Arabian culture and heritage, the races are visited mainly by locals and promise a genuine experience.

Working Hours: 7:00 AM – 9:00 AM Prices: It depends on your betting budget

Fun Fact There are no jockeys on camel races but tiny robots.

Where to stay in Dubai

Atlantis, The Palm

hotel-lux

Ok, I know people who can afford to stay in the Atlantis probably won’t bother looking for 5-day Dubai itineraries, but being one of the very best hotels on the planet, I just couldn’t pick anything else for this category.

Located on the crest of the Palm Jumeirah island, Atlantis has fantastic views of the city skyline, a private beach, a water theme park, an aquarium, and the best of all – underwater rooms! Check the latest prices

Middle Ground

hotel-mid

A 5-star hotel located right next to Burj Khalifa should cost a fortune, right? Well, that’s not the case with Taj Dubai (especially in the summer). Great locations, more than great staff, spacious modern rooms, and the best of all – views to Burj Khalifa from your window. How cool is that? Check the latest prices

Green Sky Holiday Home

hotel-budg

Located in a Dubai Marina skyscraper, Green Sky Holiday Home is just 500m away from Marina Beach. You have access to an indoor swimming pool (useful if you visit in the summer), a shared kitchen (if you are looking to save even more money), a sauna, a washing machine, and a private bathroom with a hot tub. A lot of value in this one! Check the latest prices

Bombay Backpackers DXB

hotel-hos

Located just next to The Beach, Bombay backpackers has a lovely staff, cheap beds, and even a room view to AIN Dubai. If you’re a hostel-fellow, this is the one for you! Check the latest prices

Unique stay

Starlight camp

hotel-camp

If you want to scrap all Dubai attractions and just stay in the desert, stargazing every night from your tent – there’s a way to do it in style. This unique camp offers bubble tents with clear rooftops. Of course, there are also plenty of other luxuries in the camp, but if I stay in one of those, I’m sure I’ll spend most of my time just lying on the bed, looking in the sky and disregarding pretty much everything else there. Dubai tours

The weird one

hangging-table-over-the-ocean

Enjoy a 3-course menu… in the sky. Yes, this tour will give you the opportunity to be lifted via crane on a 50 meters high dinner table above the sea – surely a great story to tell to your friends back home. Check prices here

The Boat one

yacht-in-front-of-burj-al-arab

To explore the sea part of Dubai, you can get a  yacht tour  and have breakfast/BBQ on board. It’s a very Dubai-like experience I’m sure you will enjoy. You can also do this  at night , pick an  ultra-luxurious mega yacht , or, if you think all of these options are dull, explore the seaside on a  jet ski tour  (yes, jet ski tours are a thing!).

The Helicopter One

helicopter-over-the-palm

Burj Khalifa is tall, but it can’t compare to the views you’re about to get from a helicopter. Just riding one of those things is an adventure by itself but doing it over the futuristic landscape of Dubai is a treat like no other. Short ride Longer Ride

The Balloon One

ballon-over-the-desert

Riding a hot air balloon is always an adventure, but riding one over the desert is even beyond that. This tour will take you on an hour-long balloon flight that also has wi-fi (if you want to start an Instagram live or something). You’d have the endless desert on one side, the city skyline on the other, and camels, gazelles, and wandering Oryxes beneath you! Check prices here

Dubai day trips

dubai-day-tours-grand-mosque-in-abu-dhabi

The only day-trip options (if we don’t count the desert ones) are to Abu Dhabi, but there are plenty of choices about what to see there. You can go small and just check the  Sheikh Zayed Mosque ; you can  combine the mosque with the Louvre  (yes, they also have a Louvre), or go all in and check pretty much  all attractions in Abu Dhabi  (without the Louvre, though). Finally, if you are looking for a fun day, you may skip everything but the Grand Mosque (I mean, it’s grand, you can’t just ignore it) and get a trip to  Abu Dhabi’s Ferrari World .

Extra info

All the extra stuff you need to know to plan the perfect 5-day Dubai itinerary.

When to visit Dubai?

setting-sun-in-dubai-desert

The best months to visit Dubai are definitely the winter ones – November to March. The temperatures are not too hot (17-30°C | 62 -86°F), and all outdoor activities are available. The best month of all winter months is January. The tourist traffic is down (because more people visit around New Year), the weather is neither too hot nor cold, and many tours offer discounts.

Shoulder seasons September/October and April/May are also an option. Since they’re considered offseason months, tourist crowds are not too tick, and you also have more daylight hours, but the weather may get uncomfortably hot at times (avg temperatures 25-38°C | 77 -100°F).

The summer months (June – August) are the worst time to visit Dubai . It’s hot as hell (even at night) with average temperatures of 33-42°C | 91 -107°F. As a result, most outdoor activities are closed, and plenty of the local expats are back to their home countries (so many shops are closed too). However, the tourist crowds are pretty thin at this time of the year, so if you plan to stay mostly indoors or in the ocean, this may be the best season for you. Check out the Dubai weather for your trip

Is Dubai safe?

Dubai is heavily monitored and has harsh punishments for crime, so it’s pretty much crime-free. Even petty stuff like pickpocketing ard incredibly rare in the emirate.

I’ll always recommend having travel insurance, though. No matter how safe a place is, you never know what may happen. I currently use  HeyMondo  for my travels because they have proven themselves to me more than once over the years. The link above will give you a 5% discount, but If you have another favorite provider, that’s ok. Just make sure you have one.

How to get around Dubai?

Public transportation is significantly developed in Dubai. Two metro lines cross a large part of the megapolis, and if you need to go to a place not covered by them, you can get a bus, a tram, or even a monorail.

They all work with a NOL card you can get from any metro station (and some bus ones). If you plan to use public transportation often, I recommend getting day-pass NOL cards; the value in those is incredible (single day pass for all public transport costs only 20 AED / 5.40 USD). Detailed info about NOL cards

If you want to drive yourself everywhere, I understand entirely. Dubai is one of those cities where having a car is incredibly convenient. The most convenient tool for that is definitely  Discover Cars . They compare all offers among 500 rent-a-car providers to help you find the best one. It’s seriously such an awesome service!

If you want someone else to drive you around, you can use taxis that are surprisingly very affordable.  Here  you can calculate the price for your taxi ride. If taxis are still too expensive, you can try the Dubai version of Uber called  Careem .

And last but not least, if you’re a fan of those things, Dubai also has an  open-roof hop-on-hop-off bus .

How to get to Dubai from the airport?

If you arrive at terminal 1 or 3, you have metro stations right there, and it’s the easiest and cheapest way to get to downtown Dubai. If you arrive at Terminal 2, you need to get a taxi (or Careem), walk to the nearby metro station (Stadium at roughly 2km/ 1.2mi), or arrange a  transfer beforehand .

Of course, the most hassle-free way would be to have a rent-a-car waiting for you at the airport. You can compare all rent-a-car offers in Dubai with  Discover Cars .

burj-al-arab-from-a-helicopter-view

Is Dubai expensive?

Dubai is certainly not a cheap destination but compared to other modern cities in the world – it’s very affordable. It all depends on your choices, really. Flights from Europe (with a low-cost airline like Wizzair or Flydubai) from Europe can go as low as 100 EUR (2-way) / 115 USD.

You can go to ultra-luxurious hotels for 2000 EUR/ 2300 USD per night, but you can also find a good place for as little as 30 EUR/ 35 USD. A lunch or dinner in an average restaurant would be around 50 (57$) – 100 (114$) EUR (for two), but you can also get food from a supermarket or go on a fast-food diet for a fraction of the price.

Can I use USD in Dubai?

The official currency in the United Arabian Emirates is Dirham (AED), and you can only use dirhams to pay in Dubai. Card transactions are accepted pretty much everywhere, though.

Dubai Itinerary For 5 days: A Highlights Tour Through the Best of Dubai

Only got 5 days in dubai let’s make the most of it with this 5-day dubai itinerary.

The glittering megacity of Dubai is waiting to be explored this year, but will five days be enough to experience all this incredible city on the shores of the Arabian Gulf has to offer?

It’s hard to believe just 60 years ago, the city was little more than a bustling trading port sitting along the banks of Dubai Creek. It is now known as a city of extremes and superlatives; a hub of tourism, culture, shopping, and innovation.

So is it possible to capture the best of Dubai in just 5 days? It’ll be a squeeze, but we’re going to show you how!

In this 5-Day Dubai itinerary we’ve set out for you below, we will take you through all the different aspects of Dubai, from the modern skyscrapers and architectural feats to more traditional parts of the city, the desert, and a day trip further afield thrown in.

Mix and match the days to suit your interests and timings best – plus, we share extra day trip ideas if you have even longer to explore or want to substitute some activities.

Things to know before visiting Dubai

Transport in dubai for 5 days, day 1 – 5 day dubai itinerary: old meets new, day 2 – 5 day dubai itinerary: modern dubai, day 3 – 5 day dubai itinerary: beach & desert, day 4 – 5 day dubai itinerary: abu dhabi day trip, day 5 – 5 day dubai itinerary: dubai theme park day, additional activities for your dubai itinerary, frequently asked questions about dubai itineraries.

Dubai itinerary for 5 days

You may also want to check out our itinerary suggestions for: 3-days in Dubai | 4-days in Dubai | 6-days in Dubai | 7-days in Dubai

Before we dive into the juicy details of WHAT TO DO, make sure you’ve checked out our essential planning information too. We cover in much greater detail:

  • Things to know before planning a visit to Dubai – Visas, laws, customs & religious aspects to be aware of.
  • What to pack for Dubai – dress code advice and a comprehensive packing list for Dubai can be found here.
  • The best places to stay in Dubai – let’s talk budget and location in more detail over here.
  • Dubai dining guides – all our favourite places to eat, dining specialities, bars and special occasions.
  • Best times to visit Dubai – don’t be caught out by the weather or religious events, here are the ideal times to visit Dubai.
  • Take out travel insurance! We are in an ever-changing world at present, whilst Dubai remains open for business, don’t get caught short; make sure your trip is comprehensively insured.

Over the course of using our 5-day itinerary, you will need to take a combination of taxis, the Metro and private tours.

We’ve given basic directions on how to get to each place by public transport if possible, or where you may need to book a taxi to get door-to-door with ease. You can find our complete guide to Dubai Transport options here .

Metro Cost: If you stay in Dubai for more than a few days and think you’ll catch the Metro more than a couple of times, you might want to consider getting a Silver Nol and loading it with a weekly pass, or simply a Red Nol and top it up as you need to use it. We explain all the fares in more detail here.

A note on taxis: In the hottest part of the year (i.e. about May to October!), be wary of how far you can walk during the day. Places may look relatively close and within walking distance on a map, but under the heat of the sun, a short taxi/Uber may very much be worth it (noting a minimum fare applies of 12 AED).

Hiring a car: Unless you are a super-confident driver or plan on taking several trips out of the city, you are best relying on taxis and tours for your out-of-town trips during a one-week stay in Dubai.

What can I fit into 5 days in Dubai?

With only 5 days in Dubai, you need to be careful with your time management and no doubt book a few activities in advance, especially if you’re visiting at peak tourism times. Given COVID restrictions, many venues continue to have capacity limits.

We recommend using a reputable ticketing agent such as Get Your Guide who offer a money-back guarantee in the case of needing to cancel your trip to Dubai .

When planning out your days, note that the weekend in Dubai is Friday & Saturday; these days are MUCH busier with local residents also out and about, especially Friday afternoons after prayer time . Some attractions may open later on a Friday.

We set out for you here a balanced itinerary for seeing everything that Dubai has to offer, but also included below is a table of additional activities that you can mix and match to your tastes.

For a comprehensive list of everything there is to see and do in Dubai, pop over here – we have 150+ ideas!.

Step back into the Dubai of the past, from Bedouin roots to bustling Dubai Creek .

For your first day of sightseeing in Dubai, it really helps to go back to the grassroots of what Dubai city is about; a busy trading port city based around Dubai Creek.

Get your bearings at Dubai Frame

Let’s start your exploration of Dubai, taking in the views from the Dubai Frame. Pretty much what it says – it’s a giant picture frame! One of the first tourist highlights you will capture coming from the airport into the city.

The Dubai Frame with Palm Trees - Dubai Landmark attraction

You ascend up one side of the 150m high frame (48 floors) and then walk across the top. The see-through floored sky deck gives you fabulous views of Old Dubai, Dubai Creek to Sharjah and beyond in one direction, and the modern skyscrapers of Downtown Dubai to the other.

Learn more about visiting the Dubai Frame here

Getting there: Nearest Metro is Al Jafiliya for Zabeel Park but it’s a decent walk, you may prefer a taxi/Uber drop off

Wander Al Fahidi Historical Neighborhood

This is the oldest part of Dubai city in Bur Dubai, a labyrinth of narrow laneways that date back to the 19th century. The whole Al Fahidi area (previously known as Bastakiya) is protected so that the city’s heritage does not become lost forever under the sprawling skyscrapers. Most of the traditional sandy-coloured low-rise buildings are now galleries, museums and small cafes.

A quiet corner in Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood Dubai

Within this area, you will find the Dubai Museum, housed within the Al Faihi Fort, which dates back to 1787. At only 3 AED you should definitely pop your head in for more insight into the country’s Bedouin past and the pre-oil era of Dubai. {CLOSED FOR RENOVATIONS SINCE 2020 – NO REOPEN DATE KNOWN YET}

There are many other Dubai museums to be discovered within the laneways; the Coffee Museum is one of our favourites worth seeking out.

Getting there: Al Fahidi Bus Station or Al Fahidi Metro station

Lunch at Al Seef Waterfront

By now, you have most certainly worked up an appetite, so if you’ve not stopped for lunch in XVA Cafe or Arabian Tea House situated within Al Faihidi Historical Neighbourhood, now would be time to head to one of many restaurants in this waterfront development. Seamlessly blending old with new it’s directly across the street, next to the Al Faihidi Marine Transport Station.

Al Seef is set up like a traditional souk so you’ll be able to do your shopping here too. Kids may enjoy popping into Museum of Illusions or have some fun with photos in the instagrammable laneways.

dubai tour 5 days

Cross Dubai Creek on an Abra

An absolute must for an authentic old Dubai experience! Whilst there are far more modern methods these days of crossing the city, a traditional abra at 1 AED per person is still a steal!

dubai tour 5 days

Explore the Traditional Deira Souks

Depending on the heat, you could spend several hours lost in the laneways of Deira, the most popular stops being the Gold Souk and the Spice Souk. It’s all open-air, so it can be heavy going and a bit of walking mid-afternoon in the hotter months.

You’ll find a few more museums in this area of the city too, Naif Museum and Museum of the Poet Al Oqaili are worth seeking out.

If you need to escape to airconditioning at this point, Al Ghurair Centre offers an indoor shopping option – a more modern mall. You can still pick up cheap(er) clothing and electronics here before starting your evening exploration.

Take a food tour in Old Dubai

For the evening, it’s time to take in some local cuisines. Being the multicultural city that Dubai is, you can be sure there are many dishes vying for attention as “local” cuisine, in addition to traditional Emirati or Bedouin-style dishes.

One of the most highly recommended food tours in Dubai is Frying Pan Adventures who offer various options for small groups to have authentic experiences in the streets of Dubai. Most group tours start and end in Deira.

A boat cruise on Dubai Creek

A great way to see how busy and bustling Dubai Creek can be, even at night, is by taking a dinner cruise on Dubai Creek .

An alternative is to hire a guide for your first day , you will get informative commentary along the way, as well as help with transportation and getting your bearing in the city before hitting modern Dubai on your own!

TIP: Whilst the dress code in Dubai is quite loose around the beach, heading to the older parts of town it’s definitely advisable and polite to cover up more – we talk more about what’s appropriate when here.

Explore around Downtown Dubai, from towering heights to mighty fountains and everything in between .

In complete contrast to Day 1, let’s take you over to the glimmering skyscrapers of Downtown Dubai and the ultra-modern side of the city.

Often touted as the biggest shopping mall in the world (though technically it’s not !), there are a plethora of indoor experiences to have just inside Dubai Mall, other than shopping! Especially if you’re visiting in the summer, it’s easy to spend two days just exploring everything this mega mall has to offer.

Let’s be realistic, though and assume with half a day, you can explore one of the following:

  • The Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo
  • Play DXB (formerly VR Park)

There are plenty more things to see and do indoors and some just outside and on the roof – see the full list of Dubai Mall attractions here .

Getting there: Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Station on the Red Line Metro, then there’s an air-conditioned travellator connecting you to the entire surrounding area of Downtown

Scale the Burj Khalifa

It would be hard to set out a Dubai itinerary and not include THE most iconic building in the city – the tallest building in the world no less! Yes, you can travel to the observation deck of the building “At The Top” on the 124th and 125h floors (extra packages take you to the 148th floor!), or even dine at At.mosphere restaurant and lounge on Level 122.

Burj Khalifa viewed from below wide angle lens over Burj Lake

If you’re unsure what experience might suit you, head over to our complete visitor’s guide to visiting the Burj Khalifa where we set out all your visiting options – no outside climbing permitted Mission Impossible-style!

If there’s one part of your Dubai itinerary you simply must book in advance it’s the Burj Khalifa. Tickets at the door are extortionately more expensive and can sell out. Do allow a good 2 hours for queuing and having a good look around. Note sunset and sunrise slots (only at weekends) cost more – it’s cheaper if you go after dark – see our guide to Burj Khalifa at Night !

Souk Al Bahar

Another spot to explore nearby is Souk Al Bahar . Accessed over a pedestrian bridge from Dubai Mall, this modern market is made in the design of a traditional souk offering handicrafts through to fine dining and spectacular views over Burj Lake.

You can find a good selection of places to grab a drink and bite around downtown Dubai here .

Evening in Downtown Dubai

There are several ways to continue enjoying Downtown Dubai well into the evening, it’s the hub of Dubai nightlife alongside JBR/Dubai Marina.

The Dubai Fountain show is one of the most popular free things to do in Dubai . Starting from 6:00 PM nightly, then every half hour watch the fabulously choreographed light and sound show on Burj Lake, sitting at the foot of Burj Khalifa. Later in the evening the Burj Khalifa also lights up for half-hourly shows.

Dubai Fountain view from ground floor Todd English Food Hall

For a close-up view of the fountain show, you can take an abra ride on the lake . Alternatively, our favourite is to pick out one of the restaurants with uninterrupted views in either Dubai Mall or Souk Al Bahar and dine whilst getting to see the show a few times over without the crowds.

If your trip happens to align with something you enjoy at Dubai Opera , this is another sensational Downtown Dubai experience to get glammed up for.

If concrete and modern Dubai is really not you, then head to the listing below of the best cultural activities to continue on a few more activities we couldn’t squeeze in Day 1. A day trip to the Heart of Sharjah may be preferable if the older side of the UAE interests you more.

A day for sand and surf – dune surfing that is!

Whether you are staying in one of Dubai’s luxury beachfront hotels or not, with five days you really need to squeeze in some relaxing time in the sun too!

After two days of heavy touring, it’s time to leisurely stroll into day 3 at one of Dubai’s famous beachfront districts (choose one, you’ll never fit two into a day!) before heading to the dunes late afternoon.

JBR, Bluewaters, Dubai Marina

A lot of first-timers to Dubai find the area of JBR and Dubai Marina a great place to start. Familiarise yourself with The Walk & The Beach , then if you’d like to stretch your legs further, take a walk over to the ultra-modern Bluewaters Island to dine and marvel at the Dubai skyline along Jumeirah Beach.

From October 2021, two new attractions of interest open on Bluewaters, the incredible Ain Dubai observation wheel (temporarily closed) and Madame Tussauds Dubai – the famous waxworks museum. Each of these could easily extend your trip to the area for the best part of a day.

dubai tour 5 days

You can easily spend a whole day in the JBR area between activities along the beach – think inflatable water parks, splash pads, jet ski, and flyboarding, Flying Cup sky-high dining – read more on what to do around JBR here!

You may also want to head out into the stunning Gulf waters with a cruise . Plentiful operators can be found in Dubai Marina from speed boat tours around Palm Jumeirah , or for a more sedate experience at a fraction of the cost, the RTA Ferry is a winner (with kids at least – they love anything that goes!)

Getting there: JBR/Dubai Marina is the perfect place to stay with 5 days in Dubai due to the high number of spacious hotel apartments, or by Metro take Red Line to DAMAC Properties or DMCC Metro Station

Another ultra-modern beachfront area of the city to explore is La Mer. An eclectic mix of palm-tree-lined walkways, retail, dining & play opportunities. There’s even a mini water park here. As pretty at night as it is by day La Mer is a trendy new addition for families and singles alike to enjoy Dubai’s modern vibes.

La Mer Beach Dubai

If you don’t want to spend the whole day simply at the beach – or it’s simply too hot after an hour or so – La Mer sees you close to both the Jumeirah Mosque – the largest mosque in Dubai open to the public for daily tours – and Etihad Museum , telling the story of the country’s unification in 1971.

Another short hop away is the Al Shindagha historic district near Mina Port, another great way to learn about Dubai’s past.

Getting there: No direct Metro stop (nearest is Financial Centre, then a 10-minute taxi), or take bus 8, 9 or 88 along Jumeirah Beach Road

Dubai also has plenty of public beaches , some are completely free, and others have a small Dubai municipality charge but great facilities. Local favourites include Al Mamzar Park and Kite Beach, which has slightly bigger waves than others, or head to Sunset Beach for iconic views of the Burj Al Arab .

Dubai Desert Safari

In the afternoon, get set to experience the Dubai desert. Numerous tour operators have camps set up in the dunes just outside of the city, as well as a select few operators in the protected Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve – we compare the most popular options for Dubai desert safari operators here .

A typical desert safari trip will include city pickups, and then you’ll travel by 4×4 into the dunes, doing some dune bashing along the way before an offering of sand sports – pick from quad bikes, fat bikes , sandboarding, camel rides, henna painting, shisha then join a communal BBQ dinner.

Alternatively, if you are more interested in seeing the desert wildlife than the sand sports, opt for premium options offered by Platinum Heritage , they are a little more pricey, but for smaller groups and a more genuine desert experience.

Getting there: No need to worry about your 4×4 skills, tour operators will pick you up from your hotel or a convenient city location

You can do Day 3 of our 5-day Dubai itinerary in reverse too; If you take an early morning desert safari you can get out and beat the heat, then spend the rest of your day enjoying one of the beachfront areas, perhaps book yourself into a relaxing beach club experience at one of the nice hotel resorts and finish off your day with sundowners on the beach .

If you are visiting in the peak of summer , you would likely need to modify or scratch this largely outdoor day and replace it with some further activities from our indoor guide to Dubai

No trip to the UAE is complete without seeing the Capital, Abu Dhabi.

The most iconic of buildings to visit in Abu Dhabi is the simply stunning Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque .

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

Whilst it is possible to squeeze in a trip to the Grand Mosque only on a half-day trip to Abu Dhabi – it’s less than 90 minutes on a tour coach Dubai to Abu Dhabi – you’d be doing yourself an injustice not to see more of the city.

Getting there: If you want to move at your own pace, then definitely hire a car for your Abu Dhabi day trip, but catching a tour is the easiest option – the big price differential is whether you join a shared tourist coach or take a private tour

We have more details here on the spectacular places in Abu Dhabi you can squeeze in on a one-day trip from Dubai – including the Louvre Museum and Qasr al Watan, the Presidential Palace. Its possible to visit these two key cultural attractions in Abu Dhabi using a free service called the Cultural Express .

A longer itinerary would see at least 2 to 3 days spent in Abu Dhabi to properly capture the highlights of the capital.

If you are a theme park junkie, you may want to even stay overnight and enjoy Day 5 at the Yas Island theme parks , just as good (if not better!) than their Dubai counterparts – Yas Waterworld, Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi & Ferrari World.

Abu Dhabi is but one of the other 7 Emirates of the United Arab Emirates (albeit by far the largest in size and the richest in oil!). Dubai is quite central in the country so it is a great base for exploring the rest of the Emirates. We have more ideas listed below for alternative or additional day trips from Dubai .

Where to stay in Abu Dhabi? For the Yas Island theme parks, definitely overnight in the brand new Hilton Yas Island . For views of the Grand Mosque, The Ritz-Carlton Abu Dhabi or Fairmont Bab Al Bahr on the Grand Canal are good choices closer to Dubai end of town.

Those staying longer in Abu Dhabi, pop on over to our Abu Dhabi Travel Planner website .

Thrill-seekers and adrenaline junkies will never be left disappointed in Dubai .

Now, if you have littles travelling with you (or big kids at heart!) you may well need to move theme park day further up the itinerary or dedicate two full days.

There’s a superb selection of world-class theme parks to choose from in Dubai . If you’re visiting in the beautiful shoulder seasons (approximately March to May and October to November), our top pick would be one of the mega water parks – choose from Atlantis Aquaventure or Wild Wadi at Jumeirah .

(NB if you stay at Atlantis the Palm or any of the Jumeirah hotels , your water park entry will be included!)

dubai tour 5 days

Over the coolest part of the year (December to February), Dubai Parks & Resorts is our top choice. Here you can choose between four connected theme parks (ideally you can fit in two of these in a day – three at a squeeze):

  • Legoland Dubai
  • Legoland Dubai Water Park
  • Bollywood Parks (Closed in 2023; we are expecting Real Madrid World, a football theme park, to take their place in 2024)

And if it’s the peak of summer, the top pick goes to IMG Worlds of Adventure – think Marvel characters to Cartoon Network-themed rides and activities. IMG is entirely indoors to beat the heat.

If theme parks really aren’t your thing, we strongly suggest checking our alternate suggestions for day trips & cultural activities you could add on below.

Getting there: The Theme Parks in Dubai are all quite spread out, Atlantis Aquaventure is on the outer crescent of Palm Jumeirah, and Wild Wadi is close to Souk Madinat Jumeirah. Dubai Parks & Resorts is in Jebel Ali, beyond the end of the Metro and IMG Worlds of Adventure sits south of the city. In a group, it’s worth getting a taxi for this day

Alternative – only in Dubai experiences

If theme parks aren’t your thing, we’d suggest using Day 5 in Dubai to splurge on something truly unique and memorable in Dubai. Why not consider:

  • A sunrise balloon ride over the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve
  • Indulge in afternoon tea at the “7-star” Burj Al Arab
  • Skydive over Palm Jumeirah
  • Zipline across Dubai Marina
  • Take a seaplane journey over the city
  • Dine in the world’s highest restaurant

If you’ve not had the opportunity yet, find one of Dubai’s dramatic rooftop bars (seasonal) to finish off your incredible week in Dubai with dramatic views over the city skyline or the Arabian Gulf.

Tasca Infinity Bar Mandarin Orient Dubai

There was only so much we could fit in an initial 5-day itinerary!

If some of the above activities do not appeal, were out of your budget, or perhaps you’d like to add some additional days to make it a 10-day or two-week itinerary, here’s what you could look to add:

Additional family activities

  • Admire the floral wonders at Dubai Miracle Garden (seasonal)
  • Be enchanted by Dubai Garden Glow & Dinosaur Park (seasonal)
  • Take on indoor skiing at Mall of the Emirates
  • Meet the animals at Dubai Safari Park
  • Zipline through the Ghaf forest at Aventura Parks
  • Catch the nightly Imagine water show at Festival City or the fountain show at The Pointe
  • Go bird spotting at Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary

See our complete guide to Dubai activities for kids here

Additional cultural activities

  • More for museum and culture lovers, we highly recommend a day spent in neighbouring emirate Sharjah
  • Explore the Al Shindagha district , the heritage village and Saeed Al Maktoum House
  • Spend half a day with the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding – cultural walks, meals and tours
  • Visit the oasis city of Al Ain, with the UAE’s UNESCO World Heritage-listed oasis and beehive tombs, as well as the Al Ain Zoo and Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Centre , one of the best displays dating to pre-historic UAE

Read our complete guide to Dubai’s most interesting historical places

Additional Dubai itinerary day trips

  • Head over the mountains to the east coast and spend some time in Fujairah including snorkelling and scuba diving opportunities
  • Scale to the UAE’s tallest peak in Ras Al Khaimah and experience a modern pearl diving farm
  • Cross the border into the remote Omani enclave of Musandam for a day of sailing, dolphin spotting and snorkelling
  • Check out the amazing outdoor adventures, hikes and water sports on offer at Wadi Hub, Hatta

See our complete guide to Dubai day trips

Additional adventure activities

  • Turn a desert safari into a night under the stars and overnight glamping experience
  • Join a longer camel trek in the desert
  • Take on the world’s longest zipline in the Hajar Mountains
  • Try flyboarding or jet skiing in the Arabian Gulf!
  • Go cage diving with the sharks at Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo

It really depends if you’re coming just to get a taster for future trips, a stopover on a long journey or to relax in the sun. If you want to “see it all” and explore more of the UAE and the Arabian Peninsula, no, it’s not enough; we’d recommend two weeks to cover the United Arab Emirates thoroughly. 5 days will be a good – though very busy – sample of everything the country has to offer but with plenty left to enjoy on future trips to Dubai.

It depends on what sort of budget you are operating at. We talk more about money matters here . If you consider a cheapish hotel room for two, close to the Metro can be obtained for around 200 AED, a day pass on the Metro 20AED, meals, if you go cheap and cheerful, could boil down to 50-100AED a day. So before your airfares and any fancy extras like waterpark days or desert tours, let’s say 300AED per day or c1500 AED for 5 days in Dubai ($410USD). It’s not the cheapest city but there are ways you can save money as we discuss in our budget guide to Dubai .

Things To Know Before Traveling To Dubai

What is the best time to visit Dubai?

As the city can get very hot during peak summer months, the best time to visit Dubai is during the winter months, between October to April. Popular destinations like Global Village and Miracle Garden are also open only during these months.

How can I commute around Dubai?

Dubai has a very well-connected and reliable public transport system with multiple metro lines, bus routes, and taxis that can help you travel from one destination to the next. You can utilize the metro and bus with the NOL card, which is easily available across the city and can be recharged.

Can I rent a car in Dubai?

You can rent a car and travel across the city easily if you hold an international license.

Is Dubai a safe city?

Dubai is one of the safest cities in the world. The crime rate is extremely low, and the police are always on high alert and protect residents and tourists alike at all times. You can easily travel during the late hours of the night without any danger.

Does Dubai have a dress code?

While there is no set dress code in the city, tourists are recommended to wear modest clothing that covers their arms and knees, as some malls and other locations do not allow entry otherwise. Beachwear and swimsuits are allowed on beaches and resorts but not in other public spaces.

How can I book tickets for events and attractions in Dubai?

As Dubai is a popular tourist destination, we recommend booking all your tickets in advance to avoid any disappointment. You can find and book tickets for your chosen events and attractions easily on Platinumlist.

5-Day Itinerary For Dubai – What To See In Dubai in 5 Days

Pro tip: If you can, book a flight that arrives in the evening or at night so that you can start exploring the city from early morning the next day. And if you want to make the most out of your trip, make sure you wake up and start sightseeing as early as possible!

You can choose to use a Dubai tour package for your trip or plan a trip on your own with this comprehensive list.

Day 1 – Dubai Mall + Burj Khalifa

The first day of your trip should be about Dubai’s most iconic destinations, The Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa. Burj Khalifa is located next to The Dubai Mall, so it makes perfect sense to pair your visit to the landmark building with a day at the mall. During this visit, you can catch the most spectacular views of the Burj Khalifa from The Dubai Mall, visit the At The Top observatory on top of the Burj Khalifa, and explore the world’s largest mall. Here’s what you can do during your day at The Dubai Mall.

Visit At The Top, Burj Khalifa

A visit to At The Top, Burj Khalifa’s in-house observatory, is a must for every tourist. The tallest observatory in the world, located on Level 124 and 125 of Burj Khalifa, At The Top, provides panoramic views of the city through its floor-to-ceiling glass windows. As it’s a popular tourist destination, we recommend booking your tickets in advance to ensure you don’t miss out on this experience.

Watch the dancing fountains

The dancing fountains are one of the most iconic landmarks of The Dubai Mall and are definitely not to be missed. The fountain show takes place every 30 minutes after 6 p.m. in the open area next to Souk Al Bahar. We recommend reaching the location 15 minutes before the show to find a good viewing spot.

Visit The Underwater Zoo & Aquarium

The Dubai Mall is home to one of the largest aquariums in the world that houses over 1400 marine species, including Tiger Sharks, Sting Rays, and more. The Aquarium is an absolute spectacle to behold and can be viewed for free from the mall. If you want to experience the underwater world up close, you can also choose to visit the Underwater Zoo & Aquarium , where you will get an opportunity to look at the animals from a special tunnel under the aquarium and witness many more of them including the massive King Croc.

Enjoy a delicious meal

The Dubai Mall houses some of the best restaurants in the city, ranging from fine-dining venues to fast-food chains. No matter your food preference, you are sure to find something you like at the mall. As you will spend the entire day in the mall, you can try multiple restaurants and cafes for different meals.

Explore other parts of the mall

There are many more things to do and see in The Dubai Mall, like Souk Al Bahar, The Ice Rink, Hysteria (haunted house), PlayDXB (VR arcade area), Reel Cinemas, and Infinity Des Lumieres. You can choose the places you want to visit and plan the rest of your day accordingly.

The Dubai Mall houses over 1000 retail shops, from luxury to departmental stores. If you still have time to spare, you can explore the shopping scene and splurge on the wide collections offered in the mall.

Day 2 – Dubai Frame + Desert Safari

The second day can be dedicated to Desert Safari, another exciting Dubai experience that should definitely not be missed. Desert Safari takes you on an exciting journey into the desert. It gives you an opportunity to experience the traditional Bedouin lifestyle in a desert camp with exciting activities like dune bashing, camel riding, belly dancing, and more.

Important note: Desert Safari experiences must be booked at least 2 days in advance, so make sure you make your reservations as early as possible.

Most standard desert safari experiences begin between 2 to 3 pm and last till 9 p.m., which means that it will take almost your entire day. However, if you start your day early, you can also add a visit to The Dubai Frame to your itinerary. The Dubai Frame experience takes about an hour, which makes it the perfect thing to add to your day with Desert Safari.

Day 3 – Burj Al Arab Tour + Kite Beach

On the third day of your trip, it’s time to explore the iconic Burj Al Arab. The only 7-star hotel in the world, Burj Al Arab is a spectacle to behold both from the outside and inside. You can explore the hotel even if you are not staying there with a special Inside Burj Al Arab tour experience that takes you around the luxurious location with a private butler who gives you all the history and information about the place.

As Burj Al Arab is located on the edge of Kite Beach, you can pair your tour with a day at the beach. Kite Beach is one of the most popular beaches in Dubai and is perfect for a relaxing, laid-back day with friends and family. You can choose to participate in one of the many watersports that happen at the beach, including kayaking, jet skiing, paragliding, and surfing, or just enjoy a relaxing day on the sandy shore and witness a beautiful sunset.

The Kite Beach is also lined with multiple dining destinations, so if you’re feeling hungry, there are plenty of options to choose from.

Day 4 – Atlantis Aquaventure Waterpark + The Pointe

Buckle up because day four is going to be an adventurous one. If you love water and adventure, then you should definitely add the Aquaventure Waterpark to the list. Certified by the Guinness World Records as the world’s largest waterpark, Aquaventure houses 100+ thrilling water rides and attractions, including the world-famous Leap of Faith with a near-vertical drop. With multiple attractions ranging from thrilling to mild and a dedicated kids’ area, Aquaventure is the perfect location for a fun family day out.

Aquaventure is located within the famous Atlantis hotel, which means that your visit will also give you an opportunity to explore the luxurious location. To make the most out of the day, ensure you arrive at Aquaventure as early as possible.

As Aquaventure is situated in Palm Jumeirah, you can continue your day and head to The Pointe to explore the happening area with multiple retail and dining destinations and enjoy a delicious meal with gorgeous views of the Arabian coast.

Alternatively, you can also switch the Aquaventure visit with a snorkeling experience at Deep Dive Dubai , which is the world’s deepest pool. If you are not a water person, you can also choose to visit one of the many theme parks in Dubai, like IMG Worlds of Adventure or Dubai Parks & Resorts , on this day.

Day 5 – Deira Souk + Al Seef + Global Village

We hope you’re not tired because day five will be jam-packed with fun experiences. Start your day bright and early and head to the Deira Souk to delve into the tradition and culture of the region. Deira Souk is the perfect place to discover Dubai’s merchant and trade history and buy fun and exciting souvenirs and local spices. If you’re in the mood to splurge, you can also head to the famous Deira Gold Souk, which is located right there.

To add to your cultural experience, take an Abra ride to Al Seef. An abra is a small, traditional boat dating back many years that takes visitors from one side of the port to the other. True to its spirit, an Abra ride still costs only 1 AED per person, just like in old times.

Get off the Abra and head to Al Seef, one of the most unique locations in Dubai. Built to resemble the olden structures of the city, Al Seef is a beautiful complex with multiple retail and dining destinations that are perfect for shopping and a little stroll that takes you back to history.

Abra boat on Dubai port

After your trip down the historical lane, it’s time to travel the world at Global Village. Global Village is an annual outdoor fair that houses 30+ country pavilions and is one of Dubai’s top tourist destinations. As it’s a massive place to explore, we recommend heading to Global Village as soon as it opens (at 4 p.m.) so that you have the entire day.

Global Village is one of the best dining and shopping destinations, with 1000s of retail and dining destinations from around the world. You can find traditional chaat from India, Bosinain kebabs, Thai tempura shrimp, and so much more. We recommend going to Global Village on an empty stomach so that you can try as many delicacies as possible! It’s the perfect place to add to your Dubai family trip itinerary.

Suppose you visit during summer when Global Village is not open (between April and September). In that case, you can use this day to visit other popular destinations like the Museum Of The Future.

Bonus Days For A 7-Day Dubai Itinerary

Day 6 – day trip to abu dhabi.

If you’re in town for a few extra days, a day trip to Abu Dhabi is definitely worth it. Abu Dhabi, the capital of UAE, is just an hour and a half drive from Dubai. You can choose to rent a car and drive to Abu Dhabi or take an easy intercity bus from one of the many bus stations in Dubai.

Abu Dhabi has many popular tourist destinations, the most famous being the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, which is known as one of the most beautiful mosques in the world. Here are a few attractions you can choose to visit during your day in Abu Dhabi.

  • Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque
  • Qasr Al Watan
  • Louvre Abu Dhabi

5 Day Dubai Itinerary

What to see in Dubai in 5 days, what to do in Dubai in 5 days

My biggest tip for planning your 5 day Dubai itinerary is to visit the city in sections. Dubai is a big city and you don’t want to be crossing the city back and forth every day as you’ll waste so much time (especially if you get caught in rush hour traffic) and if you are using taxis these will soon add up.

Plan your 5 day trip to Dubai using the guide below and be aware of what Dubai attractions are close to one another to help save time as 5 days in Dubai will go by in a flash!

This Dubai travel blog gives you information not only on how to spend 5 days in Dubai but how to get around Dubai , the best area to stay in Dubai and the best time to visit Dubai!

Find What You're Looking For Easily Here!

Arriving from Dubai airport

Arriving at Dubai International Airport is a seamless experience with state-of-the-art facilities and helpful staff. After disembarking, make your way through immigration and customs, ensuring you have all necessary travel documents on hand. At present, most visitors can get a 30-Day Tourist Visitor Visa on arrival. Please check the government website to refer to specific visa eligibility and requirements for your country. To reach popular spots in Dubai like downtown Dubai, the iconic Palm Jumeirah, or the bustling Marina district, you have several convenient options. The Dubai Metro, located within the airport, is a swift and cost-effective way to reach the city center, with direct connections to all three destinations. Alternatively, taxis are readily available and provide a comfortable and direct journey. Services like Uber and local equivalent Careem also operate in the area, making your Dubai tour plan for 5 days even more accessible.

5 Days in Dubai

Be sure to tailor this 5 days Dubai itinerary to your preferences and the season of your visit, for example, if you visit in the summer months (May-August) it may be too hot to do all of the outdoor activities in Dubai , and ensure that you secure reservations and make bookings in advance for popular activities and dining spots as the winter months in Dubai get busy and things book up fast!

Day 1: Exploring Downtown

If you’re new to Dubai or just on a Dubai trip for 5 days and want to soak in the bustling atmosphere, downtown Dubai is a great place to start. There is plenty to see and do here to keep you occupied for the entire day.

Start your morning with a good breakfast at one of the best cafes in Dubai. Cafes in Dubai are known for their aesthetic decor and healthy menus. Popular spots across the city include La Nena, Brunch and Cake, Josette, Friends Avenue, The Circle Cafe and Lime Tree Cafe (to name a few)!

Heading towards downtown, make your way to Burj Park , where you’ll find some of the city’s famous attractions like Dubai Mall, Dubai Fountain and the Burj Khalifa. A leisurely stroll in the park around the Burj Lake and Dubai Fountain is a great way to take in the city’s incredible skyline and make your 5 day Dubai itinerary memorable.

Stroll around Dubai Mall If you’re on a Dubai trip for 5 days or following a Dubai tour plan for 5 days, escaping the hot afternoon sun with a visit to the infamous Dubai Mall is a must. It’s one of the world’s largest shopping and entertainment destinations in Dubai . There is plenty to explore in the mall, from world-class shopping to the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo.

What to do in Dubai in 5 days, places to visit in Dubai

The mall also has an incredible range of restaurants, a large cinema, and plenty of arcades and fun zones to keep children entertained, ensuring your Dubai tour plan for 5 days is packed with excitement.

How to Get to Dubai Mall?

By metro: To Dubai Mall/Burj Khalifa Metro Station. By car: Dubai Mall has 14,000 parking spaces across 3 car parks. By Taxi: The easiest way to reach the mall is via taxi. The most affordable and reliable option is the Careem app, which is the local alternative to Uber.

Head up The Burj Khalifa

What to see in Dubai in 5 days, what to do in Dubai in 5 days

For those following a 5 Day Dubai itinerary , a trip up the Burj Khalifa is a must. It’s a highlight in the best Dubai itinerary for 5 days . Another great way to spend your afternoon in the downtown area is by taking a trip up the tallest building in the world . The Burj Khalifa is the world’s tallest building since 2009 with a total height of 829.8 meters. You can head up the Burj all the way up to level 148, with tickets available to purchase online and at the door. Tip: If you’re on a 4 nights 5 days Dubai itinerary level up your experience by making a reservation at the Burj Atmosphere Restaurant, where culinary mastery meets some epic panoramic views.

Secure your slot to admire views from Levels 124 and 125 of Burj Khalifa, with ticket combos including free refreshments.

With nightfall, the city takes on a new allure. The Dubai Fountain show takes place every 30 minutes daily from 6 p.m to 11 p.m, and is the best thing to do in Dubai . The 3-minute show is a mesmerizing symphony of water and light against the backdrop of the Burj Khalifa and is the world’s largest choreographed fountain show . You can watch the fountain show for free from the public area next to the lake outside Dubai Mall, or from any of the restaurants nearby.

Tip: One of the best ways to admire the fountain show is from a traditional boat called Abra on Burj Lake, which takes you close to the action on the water to really get the best seat in the house!

Another great thing to do in Dubai is to stroll around Souk al Bahar , a traditional Arabic-style retail and dining market with antique, carpet, and clothing stores. Here you’ll also find a great place to grab dinner, Timeout Market, a high-rated food court with a range of different cuisines.

Day 2: Bur Dubai (Old Dubai), Deira and Dubai Creek

5 Day Dubai itinerary, Dubai trip for 5 days

Take a day to explore Dubai’s cultural heritage district located on the shores of the Dubai Creek. What was once the Gulf’s most successful pearl diving port, Dubai Creek exists today as a trading port and a tourist attraction with plenty to do in the area. On the banks, you’ll find the gateway to Old Arabia – the Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood. There is plenty to do here from shopping to museums and traditional Emirati restaurants.

How to get to Old Dubai: By metro: Take the metro to the Al Fahidi Station which is only a few minutes walk to old Dubai. Even if you have a car, better to go there by metro as parking is limited. By taxi: Taxis, especially Careem, can be a convenient and affordable option to get to the area directly.

Start your day with a cultural stroll through the historic neighbourhood of Al Fahidi. Here you’ll also find the Dubai Museum within the walls of Al Fahidi Fort. Please note, Dubai Museum is currently under renovation and is closed to the public until further notice. There are many other museums in the area, such as the Coffee Museum where you can try a range of local coffee beans (the entrance fee is 10 AED).

As you stroll along the banks of the Creek, you’ll find plenty of great food options. One of the must-do cultural experiences in Dubai is trying traditional Emirati food at the Arabian Tea House Restaurant and Cafe. Here, an Emirati lunch costs between 60 and 70 AED and is the best way to experience local cuisine .

After some lunch, head out to the Dubai Old Souk , an Arabian street market with plenty of local crafts, Arabian perfumes and souvenirs for keen shoppers. You’ll also find plenty of Indian street food here like Pakora and traditional Karak (milky tea).

Tip: Most souks close for a long lunch break, so it’s best to visit the markets in the early or late afternoon.

What to see in Dubai in 5 days, what to do in Dubai in 5 days

As the sun sets, take a traditional Abra boat over the Creek to Deira , where you’ll find some more bustling markets. The Grand Souk Deira (also known as Al Souk Al-Kabeer) is a popular tourist attraction in Dubai for its weaving alleyways filled with exotic spices, dry fruits, herbs, and more.

Deira’s Gold Souk is another famous spot in Dubai and is part of the Grand Market. It has over 300 stalls of gold and jewellery for the best possible prices in the area.

Discover Dubai’s rich history on our walking tour: explore Al Fahidi’s wind towers, shop at Bur Dubai’s bazaars, and sail on a traditional “abra” boat. Dive deeper with our Private Dubai Culture Tour.

Day 3: Desert Adventure

5 Day Dubai itinerary, Dubai Desert

One of the best thing to do on your 5 day Dubai itinerary is to go on an adventure in the desert. There is a wide range of great tour companies that offer comprehensive and thrilling desert excursions from Dubai, although most follow a pretty similar itinerary.

Depending on where your pick-up point is in the city, it can take around 30-45 minutes to reach the desert and begin your safari. Most tours last around 4-7 hours, beginning in the morning and ending with a sunset barbecue.

Desert Safari Dubai is one of the most popular tours to visit the Arabian desert from the city. They specialize in a range of desert-based experiences and have a selection of tour packages to choose from. A return ticket for the monorail costs only 30 AED and can be bought on the site.

Another great way to visit the Palm is at Pointe Beach , which is a public beach overlooking the grounds of the Atlantis. It is a great place to have some food and take in the sights. Or why witness the Palm from above? The View at The Palm is a new, popular attraction in Dubai that offers panoramic, 360-degree views of Palm Jumeirah and the Arabian Gulf at a height of 240 meters. Ticket prices start from 100AED and include access to the Palm museum.

Many tourists in Dubai opt for a day trip to Abu Dhabi’s Sheik Zayed Grand Mosque on your Dubai itinerary , which can be done independently or as part of a tour from Dubai . The incredible mosque was a project of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan , who was the former Ruler of Abu Dhabi for 30 years and the first president of the UAE.

The structure of the mosque is built to unite the cultural diversity of the Islamic world and combine the modern with the historical. It really is one of the most impressive structures in the UAE .

Women must wear a headscarf and abaya inside the mosque. You will get one free of charge at the entrance or you can buy one from the souvenir shops from 150 AED . Men must wear long trousers and a full-sleeved shirt.

The Best Time to Visit Dubai

The best time to visit to Dubai on your Dubai itinerary for 5 days depends entirely on weather conditions and temperature. Dubai is known for its sunny blue skies year-round, with almost no rainfall. But the temperatures in the city change greatly with the seasons, therefore visitors must do their research beforehand to consider pricing, crowd levels, and the activities they want to do in the Dubai.

Winter, spanning from November to April, is undoubtedly the best and most popular time of year to visit Dubai. During this period, the weather is sunny and pleasantly warm, without being too hot. Winter is when Dubai truly comes alive, with limitless activities from watersports to beach parties and even hiking trails.

For those wondering about things to do in Dubai in 5 days , this season offers a plethora of options. As this is the peak tourist season, the city does see a surge in both visitor numbers and hotel rates, often tripling or quintupling compared to the summer months. Those considering a 4 nights 5 days Dubai itinerary will find this period to be the most enriching.

Dubai Peak Season

December, January, and February, make up Dubai’s peak season. Christmas is a really popular time of year to visit Dubai for 5 days . With great weather and optimal shopping opportunities, there’s no shortage of things to do in Dubai in 5 days . Although the days are shorter, offering less daylight, Dubai’s vibrant nightlife compensates for it. For travelers considering a 4 nights 5 days Dubai itinerary , this period ensures a rich and entertaining experience even after sunset.

Best Weather in Dubai

On the cusp of this peak season, November and March are the best months to visit the city for the best weather and less crowds. The weather remains consistently pleasant, and while the prices may be slightly lower and the crowds thinner, it’s an ideal time for the best Dubai itinerary for 5 days.

Off-peak season

Anyone who’s experienced it will tell you that summer in Dubai is unbelievably hot. Dubai’s scorching temperatures, often reaching as high as 45°C in July, make outdoor activities challenging, and high humidity adds an extra layer of discomfort. For many tourists, the sweltering conditions can detract from the enjoyment of their trip.

Nevertheless, this period sees reduced hotel prices, making it the cheapest time to visit Dubai. For those considering things to do in Dubai in 5 days during this time, indoor activities are recommended. And if you’re looking for a 4 nights 5 days Dubai itinerary , this off-peak season might offer some budget-friendly options.

Where To Stay in Dubai?

Dubai offers a diverse range of neighbourhoods to suit different preferences and interests. Downtown Dubai stands as a prime choice for first-time visitors, with access to iconic landmarks like the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall , as well as a vibrant nightlife scene.

For those planning a 5 day Dubai itinerary, this area is a must-visit For a more relaxed coastal ambience, Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR) and Dubai Marina offer stunning beachfront views, upscale dining, and leisurely promenade walks, making them perfect for a Dubai trip for 5 days.

The historic district of Deira provides a taste of old Dubai, with bustling markets and cultural sites, ideal for those on a Dubai tour plan for 5 days . Sheikh Zayed Road is a strategic hub for business travellers, known for its proximity to major corporate centres and is a great inclusion in a 5 day trip to Dubai. Finally, for a touch of luxury and tranquillity, Palm Jumeirah Island is a popular pick for high-end resorts and private beach access.

How To Get Around Dubai?

Getting around Dubai is relatively straightforward, given the city’s advanced and efficient transportation system. Here are the primary modes of transport:

The best way to get around in the UAE on your 5 Day Dubai itinerary , in general, is by car. If you are on holiday in Dubai , car rentals are a great option to access parts of the city quickly and cheaply. There are plenty of car hire companies catering to tourists at affordable price points with full insurance coverage. The fuel prices are particularly affordable as well. Parking is between 2 -4 AED per hour depending on where you park in the city.

Taxis in Dubai are affordable and extremely reliable, especially when compared to other major cities. For those planning a Dubai tour plan for 5 days , to access the cheapest taxi fares, download the Careem app (the local alternative to Uber).

Dubai Metro

The Dubai Metro runs across the city, with access to most of the main attractions of Dubai . It is one of the cleanest and most modern metros in the world and is a really quick and affordable way of getting around the city. The metro runs every 3 minutes and even connects the airport to the main parts of Dubai.

Money We Have

Day 1 – Arrive and downtown Dubai

Let’s be real, your Dubai itinerary for 5 days will likely start with you arriving in the early afternoon. Sure, there are some flights that arrive in the morning, but most of them end up getting there in the early or late afternoon. The first thing you should do is head to your accommodations and check-in. Take the time to unpack, change (it’s hot in Dubai), and rest if you’re jetlagged.

Once you’re settled, head for The Dubai Mall. I know this sounds like a weird suggestion, but there’s a reason for it. The Dubai Mall is massive and will require more than one trip if you like to shop. It also has many attractions, including the Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo and The Dubai Fountain Show. You’ll also find the Burj Khalifa here which you could do on your first day if you’re not tired. Note that you should buy your tickets in advance . I also like the Dubai Mall because it has many famous international restaurants from all around the world. You can literally choose any cuisine you like.

Outside of the mall is downtown Dubai . It’s worth strolling around the Dubai Fountain. If the timing works, watch the fountain show. The Palace Downtown hotel grounds are worth walking through and the Burj Park hosts many festivals. Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard has quite a few sculptures, including the Wings of Mexico Statue, a popular spot for Instagram pictures.

5 days in Dubai

Day 2 – Beaches and the Marina

One of the best things to do in Dubai is to hit the beach. Your best bet is to hit one early before it gets too hot and the crowds show up. Which beach you choose is completely up to you. Kite Beach is popular because it’s not super crowded and it has facilities, including restrooms and restaurants. A little west of Kite Beach is the public beach which many locals prefer since there are fewer tourists and you get a  good view of the Burj Al Arab. There’s also Marina Beach and La Mer Beach, where you can rent seats/beds and have people serve you.

Regardless of where you end up, you should head to the Marina for lunch. There are plenty of restaurants that give you a view of the water. Similar to the Dubai Mall, you’ll also find many international restaurants here. I personally love Shake Shack so having a burger and shake by the beach was one of my favourite things during my Dubai 5 day itinerary. Once you’re done eating, just stroll around the area and enjoy the shops and art. It’s also worth doing a Marina cruise as it’ll give you a view of all the buildings from the water. Some of these cruises included dinner, so you can decide what you prefer. There are also Dubai night tours worth considering.

Dubai itinerary for 5 days Abra

Day 3 – Old meets new

As you likely know, Dubai has changed significantly over the last 25 years. While most people are used to seeing modern Dubai images, a lot of the history remains in Al Fahidi. This is a historic part of Dubai where many traditional homes still stand. Most of these homes have been turned into coffee shops, hotels, and art galleries, but that doesn’t make the area less appealing. Most museums and galleries here are small but worth checking out since you can learn about Dubai’s history.

Just west of Al Fahidi is the Grand Bur Dubai Masjid Mosque that allows non-Muslim visitors. This is one of the easier mosques to visit, so pop in if you’re interested. If you keep heading west, you’ll be right in the middle of the textile souk. This is a huge tourist trap, but it’s still worth a stroll since it’ll lead you to the Bur Dubai Abra Station. Take the Abra (water boat), which only costs about US $1 across Dubai Creek for some amazing views. Once back on land, you’ll only be a few minutes away from the Gold Souk and Spice Souk. The Gold Souk is a total tourist trap, but the Spice Souk is good to pick up a few things as gifts or for yourself.

Once you’re done, go back to the water and take an Abra to the Al Seef station (if the timing doesn’t work, take the Abra to Bur Dubai and walk). Al Seef is a modern version of Al Fahidi. The buildings are all recreations, but this is where you’ll find some great restaurants, cafes and nightlife.

Dubai 5 day itinerary

Day 4 – Day trip to the desert or Abu Dhabi

During your Dubai itinerary for 5 days, you should have more than enough time to do a day trip. The most popular ones are a desert safari and Abu Dhabi. Which one you choose is a personal choice. I had been to the Middle East before and spent time in the desert while I was in Jordan, so I personally chose Abu Dhabi as my day trip.

If you’ve never been to the desert, it can be well worth it. Here you can go dune-bashing in a 4X4, ride a camel, see a belly-dancing show, or just lounge at a resort. There are multiple tours available, so you don’t need to do much planning. The desert is only an hour away, so it’s not a long drive. Many of these tours start in the afternoon (there are morning ones too), so your morning is entirely open. That time could be used to see an attraction you have on your list, such as the Dubai Frame or Wadi Wadi Waterpark .

Another day trip option is Abu Dhabi. While Abu Dhabi may not be as popular as Dubai, it has some great sites that can all be seen during a guided tour. Attractions such as the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Emirates Palace, and Abu Dhabi Heritage Village shouldn’t be missed.

Dubai itinerary for 5 days

Day 5 – Wrap things up

5 days in Dubai will fly by so use your last day to wrap things up. Go and have a nice meal by the water or finish shopping at The Dubai Mall. If there’s an attraction you’ve missed, now is the time to do it. Some people will even do some extreme events such as Skydiving or taking a helicopter ride. If you prefer to stay grounded (or in the water), there are sightseeing boat tours that are worth your while.

Renting a bike and going for a ride by the water is a nice, relaxing and inexpensive thing to do in Dubai. If you’re looking for more shopping and eating options, City Walk is a great outdoor venue. Nearby is The Green Planet, a bio-dome that’s quite interesting but rarely gets mentioned in the top things to do in Dubai.

Final thoughts

Your Dubai itinerary for 5 days will be busy, but it’s unlikely you’ll ever feel rushed. The cost to go to Dubai is reasonable, but many people will opt to go to Dubai on a budget . I personally think you should have a modest budget so you can enjoy yourself. Unless you have ties to the city, it’s unlikely you’ll be back. Pay for the experiences you want, and enjoy your time in the city.
