DAY 1 : PAPIKONDALU

Overnight travel from hyderabad to papikondalu.

At a distance of 35 km from Rajahmundry & 30 km from Papikondalu, Pattisam, also known as Pattiseema, is a beautiful place located on the banks of river Godavari in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. It is situated between Rajahmundry and Papikondalu and can be reached by road and boat from Rajahmundry. There are two temples in Pattisam, Sri Veerabhadra Swamy, dedicated to Lord Shiva and Sri Bhava Narayana Swamy dedicated to Lord Vishnu. This temple is one of the Panchakasi Kshetras. The other four temples are at Kedarnath, Kashi, Kalahasti and Srisailam . Sri Veerabhadra Swamy or Sri Veereswara Swamy Temple is located on Devakuta Hill in the middle of the River Godavari. The temple was bulit by Cholas in 11th Century AD and it was reconstructed by Raja Kocherlakota Jaggaiah in 19th Century. He donated 1900 acres of land to this .....

2 Perantala Palli

Perantalapalli is a remote tribal village in Velerupadu mandal of West Godavari district. This village is located on Kunavaram-Rajahmundry water way and it can be reached by 10 minutes boat ride from Kolluru. Most of the boats operating to Papi Kondalu stop here to give tourists a chance to enjoy the beauty of the place. The Sri Krishna Munivatam was constructed at this village by Balananda Swamiji in the year 1927. Now this Munivatam is being maintained by a tribal sect Konda Reddys and daily pooja are being performed by them. According to the history, in 1926, Balananda Swami had reached Perantalapalli village while travelling from Rajahmundry to Bhadrachalam on river Godavari in a motor launch and stayed here for a night. He was captivated by the pleasant atmosphere, the tribal community, the scenic beauty of this region. Then a lady appeared to him and asked him to follow her. .....

3 Papikondalu

At a distance of 60 km from Rajahmundry, 180 km from Vijayawada, 20 km from Polavaram, 260 km from Vizag & 410 km from Hyderabad, Papi Kondalu is a breathtakingly beautiful hill range bounded by River Godavari in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Papi hills are a set of three hills which form a beautiful gorge on the Godavari River spread across East Godavari and West Godavari districts. Entire area of Papi Kondalu is covered by tropical rain forests and it was recently declared as a protected National Park and is one of the top places to experience the Tourism in Andhra Pradesh . Papikondalu is one of the top attractions you must include in Vizag tour packages . The original name for this hill range was 'Papidi Kondalu'. Papidi is a rough translation for partition in Telugu. At a distance of 2.5 km from Rajahmundry Railway Station, The Godavari Bridge or Kovvur-Rajahmundry Bridge is a truss bridge spanning Godavari river in Rajahmundry. It was commissioned by South Central Railway division of Indian Railways. It was inaugurated by the then President of India, Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed in 1974. It is Asia's second longest road-cum-rail bridge crossing a water body. This is very scenic place with wonderful views of the bridge and Godavari River. This is the second bridge of the three bridges. The bridge is 4.2 km (2.7 km Rail & 4.2 km Road). At the location of the bridge, the river flows with a width of about 2.7 km, split into two channels with an island formation in between. The bridge has a road deck over the single track rail deck. Jaganadh Swamy Temple

1. RYALI : Ryali is located 38km from Rajamahendravaram. It is an enchanting place situated between the rivers Vashista and Gowtami. In this temple the exquisite idol of Jaganadh Swamy is made of black stone. It has MahaVishnu in front and Jagan Mohini on back side and can also catch a glimpse of ten incarnations of concerts, Thumbara, Narada, Rambha, Urvasi, Garuda, Ganga and many more. This shrine is referred as “Swayambhu”

SRI VIGNESWARA SWAMI VARU

2. BIKKAVOLU: Bikkavolu temple is dedicated to Sri Vinayaka. The main deity inside the temple is 7 feet tall. This is a “Swayambhu”. It is located 40kms from Rajamahendravaram. It is believed that the idol was installed during 849 AD and has been increasing year by year. Here the devotees whisper their wishes in Sri’s ear. The other fascinating thing is the water that comes out from bottom portion of left leg of the Sri.

3. GOLLALA MAMIDADA: Gollala Mamidada is located 45kms from Rajamahendravaram. It is in the midst of coconut groves and green fields. Suryanarayana Swamy temple is situated here. It has 170 feet high gopuram. The temple is situated in 16 acres. The whole gopuram consists of 100’s of carvings which are said to be an eye feast and takes lot of time to see every carving which is constructed based on different epics of god & goddess. It is also known as ‘Chinna Bhadrachalam’.

4. MARKANDEYA TEMPLE: One of the ancient temples of Rajamahendravaram. The temple was rebuilt in 1818 which shows Sri Shiva along with all other deities in one place. It is located near Ghats of Godavari. Devotees generally have a dip in river Godavari before they enter the temple.

SRI LAKSHMI NARASIMHA SWAMY TEMPLE

5. KORUKONDA: It is located about 25kms from Rajahmundry. It is an ancient historic temple known as Vaishnava Divya Kshetram. It is dedicated to Sri Vishnu. It is a ‘Swayambhu’ idol situated at the top of a hill which can be accessed only through long flight of 650 steps. The temple was constructed 800 years ago.

6. ROYAL MOSQUE: The Royal Mosque which is situated in the midst of Rajahmundry was built in 1305A.D by Sumera Sahib son of Mohammad Bin Tughlak and is one of the oldest monument worth seeing. It has completed 700 years and it stood as a centre for religious harmony and brotherhood.

Solar eclipse maps show 2024 totality path, peak times and how much of the eclipse people could see across the U.S.

A total solar eclipse  crossed North America Monday with parts of 15 U.S. states within the path of totality. Maps show  where and when astronomy fans could see the big event  as skies darkened in the middle of the day Monday, April 8.

The total eclipse first appeared along Mexico's Pacific Coast at around 11:07 a.m. PDT, then traveled across a swath of the U.S., from Texas to Maine, and into Canada.

About 31.6 million people live in the path of totality , the area where the moon fully blocked out the sun , according to NASA. The path ranged between 108 and 122 miles wide. An additional 150 million people live within 200 miles of the path of totality.

The total solar eclipse started over the Pacific Ocean, and the first location in continental North America that experienced totality was Mexico's Pacific Coast, around 11:07 a.m. PDT, according to NASA. From there, the path continued into Texas, crossing more than a dozen states before the eclipse enters Canada in southern Ontario. The eclipse exited continental North America at around 5:16 p.m. NDT from Newfoundland, Canada.

The path of totality included portions of the following states:

• Pennsylvania
• New Hampshire

Small parts of Tennessee and Michigan also experienced the total solar eclipse.

Several major cities across the U.S. were included in the eclipse's path of totality, while many others saw a partial eclipse. These were some of the best major cities for eclipse viewing — though the weather was a factor :

• San Antonio, Texas (partially under the path)
• Austin, Texas
• Waco, Texas
• Dallas, Texas
• Little Rock, Arkansas
• Indianapolis, Indiana
• Dayton, Ohio
• Cleveland, Ohio
• Buffalo, New York
• Rochester, New York
• Syracuse, New York
• Burlington, Vermont

The eclipse began in the U.S. as a partial eclipse beginning at 12:06 p.m. CDT near Eagle Pass, Texas, before progressing to totality by about 1:27 p.m. CDT and then moving along its path to the northeast over the following few hours.

NASA shared times for several cities in the path of totality across the U.S. People could have also  checked their ZIP code on NASA's map  to see when the eclipse was to reach them if they were on, or near, the path of totality — or if they saw a partial eclipse instead.

How much of the eclipse did people see if they live outside the totality path?

While the April 8 eclipse covered a wide swath of the U.S., outside the path of totality observers may have spotted a partial eclipse, where the moon covers some, but not all, of the sun, according to NASA. The closer they were to the path of totality, the larger the portion of the sun that was hidden.

NASA allowed viewers to input a ZIP code and see how much of the sun was to be covered in their locations.

Could there be cloud cover be during the solar eclipse?

Some areas along the path of totality had a higher likelihood of cloud cover that could interfere with viewing the eclipse. Here is a map showing the historical trends in cloud cover this time of year.

Where did the solar eclipse reach totality for the longest?

Eclipse viewers near Torreón, Mexico, got to experience totality for the longest. Totality there lasted 4 minutes, 28 seconds, according to NASA. 

Most places along the centerline of the path of totality saw a totality duration of between 3.5 and 4 minutes, according to NASA. Some places in the U.S. came close to the maximum; Kerrville, Texas, had a totality duration of 4 minutes, 24 seconds.

What is the path of totality for the 2044 solar eclipse?

The next total solar eclipse that will be visible from the contiguous U.S. will be on Aug. 23, 2044.

Astronomy fans in the U.S. will have far fewer opportunities to see the 2044 eclipse they had on April 8. NASA has not yet made maps available for the 2044 eclipse but, according to The Planetary Society , the path of totality will only touch three states.

The 2024 eclipse will start in Greenland, pass over Canada and end as the sun sets in Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota, according to the Planetary Society.
