The Forclaz Trek 700 Air sleeping pad* is available at Decathlon. Ultralight sleeping pads from well-known manufacturers can quickly become expensive. The Decathlon sleeping pad costs only about a third in comparison to ultralight sleeping pads of well-known manufacturers. What about the performance of the Trek 700 Air?

The important features of the ultralight sleeping pad I take for you in the test under the microscope: weight, pack size, sleeping comfort, insulation, durability and much more of the trekking air mattress Trek 700 Air.

At a glance: The Forclaz Trek 700 Air Ultralight sleeping pad has eight vertically arranged air chambers. The sleeping comfort on the air mattress is high. It packs down to the tiny size of a 1L water bottle and with a weight of 523 grams it doesn’t weigh too much.

Experience – Weight & Pack Size

I was very curious about the Forclaz Trem 700: How does the cheap Decathlon Isomatte compared to the expensive competition?

The Decathlon sleeping pad is delivered rolled up in a small packing bag. Packed inside, the Trek 700 Air air mattress is about the size of a 1 liter bicycle water bottle. Thus, the air mattress fits easily into any backpack and bikepacking handlebar roll .

With 523g, the Decathlon sleeping pad just passes as ultra-light. Inflated are offered 5.5 cm thick. This is not much but should promise pleasant lying and sleeping comfort.

The pack sack is very practical: it protects the air mattress. In addition, air mattress with pack sack nestles well with the other equipment in the steering wheel or backpack. That’s why I prefer to transport the air mattress in a pack sack.

Inflate & Deflate

After a long day of outdoor hiking or bikepacking, you set up the Ultralight tent and want to sleep on the comfy sleeping pad. How fast does it go with the Forclaz Trek 700 Air?

For inflation and deflation, the Decathlon sleeping pad has a 2-way check valve. So there are 2 valves: one valve for inflation and one valve for deflation.

Ultralight Camping Mat Comparison Decathlon Trek 700 Trekking Air Mattress Valve

The Ultralight Mat is inflated quickly: After about 15 breaths and less than 45 seconds, the mat is filled to the brim. If the mat is then too hard, you can always readjust it with the bleed valve.

The next morning, the ultralight sleeping pad wants to be vented and packed: To do this, the vent valve is opened. The Trek 700 Air can then be rolled up or folded. For relaxed packing, the air must escape completely from the sleeping pad. The construction with the two separate valves allows the Decathlon sleeping pad to be completely deflated: the Decathlon sleeping pad can thus be repacked quickly and relaxed.

Ultralight Camping Mat Comparison Decathlon Trek 700 Trekking Air Mattress Packing Bag Diagonal

To allow any moisture inside the mat to escape, both valves should remain open. With a pump bag included, such a problem could hardly arise. However, a pump bag is neither included nor available as an accessory for the Forcalz Trek 700 Air.

Processing & Quality

The Forclaz Trek 700 Air is super processed. There are fancy silicone adhesives on the top: these are to prevent the ultralight sleeping pad from slipping down with the sleeping bag. This works wonderfully: lying on the air mattress, you have a good grip and do not slide down.

Ultralight Camping Mat Test Decathlon Trek 700 Trekking Air Mattress Logo Light

Fortunately, you can sleep quite undisturbed on the Decathlon sleeping pad. When you move around on the mat, there is no excessive noise as with other ultralight mats.

Lying comfort & Sleeping comfort

Now it’s time to look at the most important factor of an insulating mat: the lying and sleeping comfort. This is really good with the Trek 700 Air: the 5.5 cm thickness of the air mattress ensures that I could sleep comfortably even on the most varied surfaces.

Ultralight Camping Mat Test Decathlon Trek 700 Trekking Air Mattress From Above

Whether soft meadow or subsoil with pebbles and branches: Unevenness compensates the Decathlon Isomatte excellent. With a body weight of 75 kilos, I am comfortably bedded on the Forclaz Trek 700 Air and can sleep in great comfort. Decathlon itself states a maximum weight of 125 kilos on the product page.

Ultralight Camping Mat Comparison Decathlon Trek 700 Trekking Air Mattress Diagonal

Above and below the shape of the sleeping pad is tapered: this shape is chosen because ultralight sleeping pad to save weight. Especially as a side sleeper you should pay attention to this point. For me as a side sleeper with 1.84 m height, the lying surface fits well. I have listed all available sizes for you at the end of this review.

Heat & Insulation performance

The R-value of the Decathlon sleeping pad is given as 1.6. This makes the Trek 700 Air a typical two to three season air mattress. If you use it mostly in summer, early spring, and late fall, you should be able to sleep comfortably.

Ultralight Camping Mat Comparison Decathlon Trek 700 Trekking Air Mattress Thickness Close

I had the air mattress so far always in the summer in warm temperatures in use.

My sleep system continued to consist of either:

  • A MSR Hubba NX tent or the Trekking tent Forclaz Trek 900 Ultralight .
  • The sleeping bag used was a Sea to Summit Spark 2 down sleeping bag.

With the sleeping system used, the insulation performance is ideal as expected and I don’t feel any floor cold.

Ultralight Camping Mat Comparison Decathlon Trek 700 Trekking Air Mattress View

My assessment of the insulation performance: with the Sea-to-Summit Ultralight with an R-value of 0.7, I can sleep comfortably at about 5 degrees without freezing. Based on my experience, I suspect that the Decathlon sleeping pad is very good for down to 0 degrees.

The Decathlon sleeping pad makes a robust impression all around. So as robust an impression as an air mattress can make 😉

Ultralight Camping Mat Comparison Decathlon Trek 700 Trekking Air Mattress Straight

With the air mattress I usually sleep in the tent. The sleeping surface for the Forclaz Trek 700 was therefore mostly the tent floor. Then you can also sleep on slightly more pointed stones or on small roots. With me, the Decathlon Isomatte has loosely put away these small hints.

Directly on the ground without protection, the Trek 700 Air should not be used. A nasty sharp stone can quickly drill through the air mattress and you have to help yourself with the included repair kit.

With careful use, as described above, you should have a very long time fun with the Decathlon sleeping pad.

Available sizes

The Forclaz trekking air mattress is available in the following sizes:

  • Short: 120 x 52 cm at 360 g – Buy Trekking Air Mattress Trek 700 Air at Decathlon*.
  • L: 180 x 52 cm at 510 g – Buy Trekking Air Mattress Trek 700 Air L at Decathlon*.
  • XL: 195 x 60 cm at 600 g – Buy Trekking Air Mattress Trek 700 Air at Decathlon*.

What size fits you? Ideally, the sleeping pad should be fairly close to your body size.

With the Trek 700 Air, Decathlon proves once again: A good ultralight sleeping pad can also be inexpensive. I really like the Decathlon sleeping pad in the test. It combines a small pack size with an acceptable weight. This makes the sleeping pad a really good companion on bikepacking tours and bike trips.

The sleeping comfort on the sleeping pad is excellent thanks to a thickness of 5.5 cm. With the lying surface provided, side sleepers can also sleep very comfortably. The insulation performance with an R-value of 1.6 allows for a range of applications from early spring to late fall.

The Trek 700 Air is a good sleeping pad with excellent value for money: The pack size is tiny and only the weight has to be compromised slightly.

The Forclaz Trek 700 Air is a really good trekking air mattress for short and also long tours. In this price range, a really more attractive offer.

Very good, compact and light transport. Quite comfortable for an inflatable mattress.

very comfortable, perfectly insulates the shoulders and kidneys, and in these parts, despite the lining, I was always a bit cold. I am very satisfied with the purchase. cold and windy nights are no longer scary.

An experienced hiker gave me the tip to try a short mattress, and I like it very much

I was hesitant about getting a short size mattress and I don't regret it at all. Not having a mattress under your legs is not bothersome at all, it remains comfortable and this makes it an ultra light and compact mattress for transporting it. I now take it on all my bivouac hikes.

Advantage: small pack size and weight, easy to handle, good insulation when inflated tightly! Disadvantage: rather poor sleeping comfort, the feeling of rolling off the mat when changing sides, the mat shifts very quickly while you sleep. Conclusion: good compromise solution for 2-3 day tours

used 2 months on compostelle and RAS

I used it to put in a hammock and for my 4 year old daughter. It is sufficiently robust. It saved my back from jerking during my night in the hammock. Lightweight and convenient to carry.

Ok - the comfort is obviously not incredible but at this price, for the weight and size, it remains a good product

Practical for hiking and roaming to lighten the bag. Good insulation but add a bag under the legs for better insulation especially at altitude

Very compact. A bit short but otherwise comfortable

very good, my daughter uses it to go to the field

Good product

Very compact but average thermal insulation and comfort not at the top

4 week trekking, defective mattress after the 3rd night. That of a friend at the end of the 5th grade. The mattress deflates. Decathlon hammock that tears after a week. Bottom line, slept poorly but now I know where I will no longer buy my trekking equipment

Main fabric: 57.0% Thermoplastic Polyurethane, 43.0% Polyester ; Carry bag: 100.0% Polyester

Volume and folded size

Dimensions folded Ø 8.5 cm x21 cm. Volume: 1.2 litres.

Easy inflation/deflation

The simplest way to fold without damaging your mattress is to fold it in four widthways, then roll it up.

What is the r-value?

The R-Value is a measure of the thermal insulation. It measures the ability of a mattress to retain or prevent heat from escaping from a warm body (human body) to a cold floor. The higher the R-Value, the better the insulation of the mattress. Please note that the R-Values can be added; this means that you can use two mattresses and add their R-Values.All our mattresses are tested to standard ASTM F3340-18.

What r-value for what use?

R-value from 0 to 1.9: Hot season (summer) onlyR-value from 2 to 3: 2 or 3-season (spring-summer-autumn)R-value from 3 to 4: 4-seasonR-value of 4.5 and higher: Use in all 4 seasons and in extreme conditions (glacier, far north and high altitudes)

Tips for sleeping well on your mattress

Once you are lying down, remember to adjust the inflation pressure of the mattress by slightly pressing the IN valve (open cap). A mattress that is too hard is often synonymous with discomfort.Silicone patches on the top of the mattress are designed to reduce the sliding of your sleeping bag on the mattress.

Additional sustainable development information

Textile dyeing requires a lot of water but also produces waste water from the dye baths. To reduce the environmental impact of this model, we chose to use a dyeing process called Inchbi-ton Inch which involves dyeing one out of every two yarns. This dyed yarn is also made from a bulk dyeing process which incorporates the colour pigments from the yarn manufacturing phase onwards. This process reduces the CO2 emissions of this product.

How to repair a leaky mattress

An inflatable mattress is not puncture-proof, but it can be repaired! When using it, take every care when installing and handling it. In the event of a problem, we recommend using self-adhesive repair patches (ref: 8557113).For more information, copy the following link into your browser:https://www.forclaz.co.uk

Three Inflatable Sleeping Pads for your Next Backpacking Trip: A Review

By: Author Alisha McDarris

Posted on Published: October 12, 2021  - Last updated: August 8, 2022

Sharing is caring!

Sleep is super important when you’re backpacking. And frankly, we’ve found that we sleep better when we have an inflatable pad under our tired bodies. And when we sleep better, we’re less prone to becoming super cranky backpackers. And nobody likes hanging out with super cranky backpackers. So get comfy, sleep better, and enjoy spending the night outdoors with one of these three inflatable sleeping pads for backpacking.

Lounging on inflatable sleeping pads.

Three Inflatable Sleeping Pads for Backpacking

The Big Agnes Air Core Ultra with Pump Sack.

Big Agnes Air Core Ultra

First, the deets:

  • 3.25 inches thick with 3.5 inch thick outer chambers to keep you centered on the pad all night.
  • High volume valves with micro adjustment functionality so you can quickly inflate, deflate, and easily customize your ideal firmness.
  • It comes packed in a stuff sack with a couple repair patches and a replacement valve seal.
  • Includes a pad Inflation Sack, which is made from upcycled excess pad material.
  • There’s an antimicrobial treatment inside the pad to prevent mold and mildew growth.
  • It’s made of super durable nylon.
  • Has an R-value of 1.4, making it a warm weather pad.
  • Comes in three sizes: either 72″ or 78″ long and 20″ or 25″ wide.
  • They weigh between 18 ounces to 24 ounces.

The Big Agnes Air Core Ultra inflatable sleeping pad.

Next, the review:

the Big Agnes Air Core Ultra is definitely the cushiest of these three pads at over 3″ thick, meaning it keeps you from ever touching the ground beneath you no matter how you sleep.

Of course, since it’s so thick, it also takes a bit longer to inflate than some of the others whether you’re using the inflation sack or your lungs. I typically prefer the latter, honestly, because I find those things kinda unwieldy and not terribly efficient. Plus, I’m not likely to carry that much extra weight with me backpacking; the pump sack is actually pretty heavy.

The pad is also a bit on the heavy side, and a bit bulky all packed up. But that’s the trade-off you’re making if you want something ultra plush. On the plus side, though, it’s made of a nice rugged, durable nylon that feels like it was made to last.

It’s super easy to use the micro adjust valve, too. Just inflate, lay down, and adjust until you get the firmness just right. It’s a handy feature, because honestly, fully inflated this pad is pretty firm. That may be perfect for you, but we like a little give, so it was nice to just let a little air squeak out so we could customize our comfort.

And yes, the side rails did seem to help keep us centered while sleeping, so that’s a great design feature, though I do think it’s the noisiest of the three pads on this list, FYI.

Bottom line: if you want a solid, study sleeping pad that’s as comfortable as possible without having to sacrifice serious weight or cost savings, this is your guy. Plus, we love that it comes in several sizes to accommodate campers of multiple sizes. Huzzah for size inclusivity!

Also important to note: if you’re combining this pad with a whole Big Agnes Sleep system, like the Sunbeam or Lost Dog sleeping bags we reviewed earlier this year , either width pad will fit in those pad sleeves, though the longer pad may not fit in the women’s bags. Find it on Backcountry.com, here.

The Klymit Static V2 inflatable sleeping pad.

Klymit Static V2

  • It has an easy screw-to-tighten inflate valve that makes micro-adjustments super easy.
  • Features Klymit’s Body Mapping Technology: a patented V-shaped design that’s meant to be supportive and comfortable no matter how you sleep – side, stomach or back.
  • Side Rails designed to help keep you centered on the pad all night.
  • Deep Weld Patterning that aids in comfort and warmth retention (they create space that allows your sleeping bag to fully loft between you and the pad for improved thermal comfort).
  • 72″ long and 23″ wide, plus 2.5″ thick.
  • Weighs 16 ounces.
  • Has an R value of 1.3.
  • Comes with patches, plus a lifetime warranty.

The Klymit Static V2 (Image courtesy of Klymit.com)

We’ve been using an older version of this pad for years with few complaints. And in that time, we’ve only had to send one of our pads in once to be repaired when it sprung a microscopic leak, and it was free and easy, because Klymit guarantees their pads for life; you just have to send it in and they’ll repair it.

It’s quite a comfy pad even though it’s not the thickest. You might be able to feel the ground a bit under your hips or shoulders if you turn on your side, but considering that’s how I usually sleep and I still use this pad, it must not be that bad.

As for the deep-welded baffles, it’s hard to say if they actually help with heat retention, but they do keep the pad comfortable. As in, no micro-adjustments required. We always just fill it to the max and it’s perfect as is. The shape and design really feels like it’s filling in all the space between you and the ground, like under your lower back.

And the side rails also have always worked very well at keeping us centered throughout the night. I’m a tosser and a mover and I’ve never once slid off this pad, so that’s a win.

It’s also light and packs down small, which I’m all about, because when I backpack I want to carry as little weight as possible.

It doesn’t come with a pump sack, but you can purchase one separately if you really want one. It does take longer to inflate than some other pads because the valve is smaller, so air gets pushed through less quickly, but it’s hardly a dealbreaker.

I find the pad very comfortable, especially for back sleeping and recommend it highly. Find it on Klymit.com, here.

The Decathlon Forclaz 700 inflatable hiking mattress.

Decathlon Forclaz Trek 700

  • Mummy-bag shape, which reduces excess fabric and therefore weight.
  • Designed with non-slip silicone patches on the top and middle that are intended to keep your bag from sliding around in the middle of the night.
  • A super efficient deflation valve and 2-way inflation valve that is micro-adjustable.
  • Comes in large and extra large, plus a short version
  • The large is just under 71″ long, 20.5″ wide, and 2.2″ inches thick.
  • It weighs 18 ounces.
  • An R-Value of 1.6.

forclaz trek 700 air short

The Decathlon Forclaz 700 may have been the easiest to inflate of the three pads, by which I mean it took the least amount of time. The valves are large in order to allow a lot of air to pass through whether inflating or deflating.

And I totally dig the shape. After all, why do you need a rectangular sleeping pad if your sleeping bag isn’t rectangular?

Shape aside, it’s also comfortable and easy to adjust the firmness to your liking. And you will probably need to adjust the firmness as it’s fairly stiff fully inflated. That said, the inflation and deflation valves are on the bottom of the pad, so if you do need to let a little air out, it’s a smidge inconvenient to fold the top back, find the valve, and deflate a bit while you’re on top of it.

Hardly a deal-breaker. The silicone patches are a nice touch, though. It does feel like they help keep a sleeping bag a bit more stationary when positioned on top of the pad.

It doesn’t have side rails or anything like that, but because of the shape and those non-slip patches, we don’t think we’re going to have a problem with rolling off the pad. We haven’t so far! And the fact that it’s fairly compact when all packed up is an added bonus. Find it on Decathlon’s site, here .

Bottom Line

Inflatable sleeping pads, like camping pillows (which we reviewed in this post) , are a very personal choice. You just have to find the one that’s right for you. Hopefully we’ve made that easier. If you don’t mind sacrificing a little weight for added comfort and a wide range of size options, go with the Big Agnes Air Core Ultra ( find it here ). If you want to keep it light and small, the Klymit may be your best option ( find it here ). And if you want a happy medium that offers customizable firmness for not much weight, try out the Decathlon Forclaz 700 ( find it here ).

Whatever you sleep on, just get out there and wander on.

Budget Camping Gear – Sleeping Mats: Forclaz Inflatable Trekking Mattress and Superlite 8

When you’re getting into the outdoors and experiencing nature for the first time it can be quite overwhelming, especially when there are so many different outdoor brands around offering lists of product specifications and technical jargon. It’s very easy to believe that you need to spend a bunch on gear in order to have a good time in the outdoors but that is definitely not the case.

In this review I will take a look at a couple of budget friendly options for adding to your sleeping system, whether you’re brand new to camping or just want to save some money without compromising on quality. These products are both at the lighter end of the scale so will also be good for people looking at wanting to reduce pack weight on a budget.

Firstly, I would like to discuss the main pros and cons of the two main types of sleeping mat, the foam roll mat and the inflatable mat. If you’re looking for both a price and weight saving, then a foam roll mat is always going to be the lightest sleeping mat available. An inflatable mat will provide extra comfort but they are generally more expensive on average and even the lightest inflatable mat will be heavier than most roll mats. Which you chose will depend on the amount of comfort you personally require for camping. There is no right or wrong answer here and as with many things in the world of camping, your kit is personal to you, so you must choose what you feel happiest with. Both these products are most suitable for spring and summer camping but can be used into the autumn comfortably if paired with something like a reflective foam mat to boost the heat retention in your sleep system.

Forclaz Inflatable Trekking Matress – Trek 700 AIR Short

Weight: 360g

Price: £24.99

R Value: 1.6

This item is the best bang for your buck in terms of weight and price when it comes to inflatable mattresses. You can go slightly cheaper with a £19.99 short mat by Vango, but gaining an extra 240g in weight. So far the Trek 700 has proven to be a great option, although not without its drawbacks.

The positives for this product are numerous. 360g is extremely light for an inflatable matress and its packed size is very small, making it ideal for backpackers having to hike any distance with their kit while also providing a bit of extra comfort. The small pack size makes it an affordable and compact item for family trips and the mat will provide kids with a comofrtable nights sleep, the shorter mat length being no issue for smaller people to sleep on. It has been durable in my testing so far, dealing well with woodland and moorland wildcamping, so a campsite will provide no challenge for this robust little piece of kit if you’re not the sort of person who willingly camps out in the middle of nowhere. It’s very quick to inflate and blows up to full in a few good lungfuls of breath, so setting up your sleep system won’t take long with this mat in there.

A small number of downsides are present, as there are with any product. It is a three quarter length mat, making it potentially unsuitable for taller people and anyone who requires the full comfort of body length mat. A full length version of this mat is available for £34.99 and 150g heavier. It has exactly the same R value as the short mat and should be essentially the same product, just slightly larger. I have not tested that version personally so I cannot fully vouch for it, but so far anything I’ve bought from Decathlon has be great quality.

Superlite 8 – Review version by OEX

Weight: 190g

Price: £11-£25

R Value: 1.3

The Superlite 8 is one of those products that’s sold by a couple different sources under slightly different names, but it’s all the same product. I got my version for £11 from Blacks in the UK and it is OEX branded. It is unfortunately, out of stock on Blacks, Millets and Go Outdoors at the time of writing, potentially due to supply issues during the pandemic. Most versions of this product you will find online are Multimat branded and a bit more expensive. You can track it down for under £20 on websites like outdoorgear.co.uk .

The price, weight and comfort balance with this particular mat is excellent. You can absolutely go cheaper and lighter that this mat, but the foam thickness with the Superlite 8 just makes for a better nights sleep for minimal extra pack weight. A good night sleep in the outdoors can make the world of difference. This product has so far seemed durable and held up well on the moors. Great for backpackers who don’t feel they require the additional comfort of an inflatable matress and handy for things like your DofE kitlist.

A foam roll mat is obviously less comfortable than an inflatable mat and might not be suitable if you’re a side sleeper, but if you generally sleep on your back or front then a foam roll mat might be a good choice.

https://www.ultralightoutdoorgear.co.uk/equipment-c3/sleeping-mats-c58/closed-cell-foam-mats-c137/featherweight-evazote-foam-mat-p13851

There’s no need to rush into a choice when it comes to picking your camping gear and there’s certainly no need to feel innadequate because you might not have the best brands in your kit. The important thing is getting out there and having a go, so if buying a £5 sleeping mat allows you to do that, then so be it.

I hope this quick review and breakdown has been useful for you! Be sure to check back for more gear reviews and other adventures!
