Hawaii Extends Ban on Cruise Ships Until at Least January 2022, Officials Announce

Hawaii's continued ban on cruises has directly impacted several cruise lines, including Viking Ocean Cruises and UnCruise Adventures.

hawaii cruise cancelled

Travelers hoping to cruise the gorgeous islands of Hawaii will have to wait a little longer as the state doesn't plan to welcome back ships until at least next year, according to reports.

"Currently, the earliest resumption of cruises to Hawaii would be January of 2022," Jai Cunningham, the public information officer for the Hawaii Department of Transportation, recently told Cruise Critic. "While no firm date is currently set, HDOT, in coordination with the various State, Federal, and Local entities, is focused on the safest possible resumption of cruise."

Hawaii started welcoming back tourists earlier this month, reversing a previous plea by the state's governor asking travelers to put off their vacations amid rising cases throughout the islands. However, the state never officially paused its ' Safe Travels' program , which allows visitors to skip quarantine if they arrive with proof of vaccination or proof of a negative test, deciding instead to keep protocols in place .

Cunningham told Cruise Critic the Safe Travels program would have to be expanded to include those arriving by cruise ship when the ports do eventually open.

A representative for Hawaii's Department of Transportation did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Travel + Leisure .

The decision comes as cruises have resumed around the country with varying vaccine and testing mandates in place . It also comes weeks after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention extended its Conditional Sail Order for ships until Jan. 15, 2022, after which the agency plans to move to a voluntary program.

For its part, Hawaii's continued ban on cruises has directly impacted several cruise lines, including Viking Ocean Cruises and UnCruise Adventures, each of which were forced to cancel itineraries around the state, according to Cruise Critic .

"While restrictions have been eased in most destinations around the world, the impacts of the pandemic continue to make cruise travel particularly complicated in some specific locations," Richard Marnell, Viking's executive vice president, said in a letter to impacted guests, according to the site. "When we developed our Hawaiian Island Sojourn voyage, travel to Hawaii was possible."

But while cruise ships aren't going to be sailing throughout the islands anytime soon, Hawaii recently decided to lift capacity restrictions at bars and restaurants that require proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test to enter in Honolulu and Maui ahead of the holiday season.

Maui disaster: What to do if you have plans to visit Hawaii

MSN has partnered with The Points Guy for our coverage of credit card products. MSN and The Points Guy may receive a commission from card issuers.

Maui has been impacted by devastating wildfires fueled by hurricane-force winds. The fires have caused catastrophic damage and are heartbreakingly the deadliest in the U.S. in several years.

The worst fires occurred in West Maui, as the historic area of Lahaina has been completely devastated by flames that have not yet been fully extinguished.

Local officials issued a proclamation declaring essential travel only to the island of Maui and declaring a disaster emergency relief period at least through Aug. 15 and stated in an interview on CNN: “We encourage anyone with travel plans to Maui to cancel their flight … it is really a tragedy that we’re dealing with right now.”

President Biden has signed an emergency disaster declaration for the state of Hawaii, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency will coordinate recovery operations.

Given Maui’s popularity as a vacation destination, numerous would-be tourists likely have upcoming trips scheduled, and given the scale of the disaster on the island, now need to make some decisions about their upcoming plans to visit in order to allow the island to focus on recovery efforts.

Here’s what to know and do if you have an upcoming trip to Maui planned.

Is it safe to travel to Maui right now?

It is currently not safe to travel to parts of Maui due to the multiple wildfires and evacuation orders that are in place. If you have a trip planned in the upcoming days and weeks, local officials are encouraging visitors to cancel or reschedule for a later time.

There are power outages in West Maui, phone service is down in parts of the island, and communications should be reserved for rescue efforts at this time.

Even when it is safe to travel there again, the island has limited resources and infrastructure. Trying to visit for a vacation at this time will yield a different trip than you might be hoping for and could, in fact, be a drain on already limited resources.

Kahului Airport (OGG) on Maui is open, but with hundreds of travelers in the airport still awaiting flights home, the focus will be to evacuate as many nonresidents as possible so that relief efforts on the ground can focus on helping residents who have lost their homes. In fact, at this time, some airlines are only flying empty planes into Maui in order to relieve the strain on the island and get the stranded tourists back to the mainland.

Residents and visitors with upcoming travel bookings are encouraged to check with their airline for any flight changes or cancellations or assistance with rebooking.

When might it be OK to travel to Maui?

At this time, it is unclear when West Maui will reopen, but the devastation to the historic Lahaina town is very substantial.

The Hawaii Tourism Authority recommends the following: “Visitors who have travel plans to West Maui in the coming weeks are encouraged to consider rescheduling their travel plans for a later time.”

The tourism board advises travelers with plans to other parts of Maui and the Kohala Coast on the island of Hawaii in the coming weeks to contact their hotels for guidance on whether their properties will be open at that time.

“In the days and weeks ahead, our collective resources and attention must be focused on the recovery of residents and communities that were forced to evacuate their homes and businesses,” the Hawaii Tourism Authority said.

It’s not yet possible to know exactly when Maui, especially the island’s western side, will be ready to support tourists, but near-term travel is not advised. For trips booked further out, start looking at the social media channels for your hotel or resort, as many are now posting status updates.

Some hotels in other parts of the island, such as the Grand Wailea, a Waldorf Astoria Resort, have posted statements on their websites.

“We continue to closely monitor the spread of wildfires in Maui. Our immediate priority remains the safety and security of our guests and Team Members. Our thoughts are with all those who have been and continue to be affected by these wildfires.”

“At this time, Grand Wailea and our surrounding community are not affected by the fires. We are closely monitoring the situation and following all instructions and directives from our local and state authorities to ensure we are doing everything possible to keep our guests, staff, and community safe. At this time, Kahului Airport is open. For those with imminent travel plans, please contact your airlines for the most up-to-date flight information. We will endeavor to keep our guests informed as we learn more about the situation.”

Those with trips to Hawaii in the coming weeks who wish to proceed with their plans could consider shifting plans to another island with more infrastructure and availability, such as Oahu.

Is it safe to travel to other Hawaiian islands?

Travel to the islands of Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Lanai, and other parts of Hawaii Island are not affected at this time. There might be near-term capacity issues with so many tourists trying to relocate from Maui.

There was a wildfire near the Mauna Kea Resort area on the Kohala Coast of Hawaii Island that has since been contained, and restrictions have been lifted, according to local news reports .

If you have a trip planned to another Hawaiian island, it is likely unaffected currently. However, contact your hotel or check its website or social media channels for any updates should the situation change.

Airlines allowing changes to Maui flights

In response to the fires, some airlines are adding more flights to help passengers evacuate. Alaska Airlines , American Airlines , Hawaiian Airlines and Southwest Airlines have ramped up their outbound services, according to CNBC and a local news report.

During a press conference Wednesday night, Ed Sniffen, Hawaii’s transportation director, said around 11,000 passengers had already been flown off the island since the fires began.

American Airlines

American Airlines passengers can change their flights to, through or from Kahului Airport (OGG), at no cost for tickets bought by Aug. 9 for travel originally scheduled through Aug. 12.

New flights must be booked for travel Aug. 9-15 for the same cabin and origin/destination cities. Alternatively, AA passengers can cancel their originally scheduled trips and request a refund. This only applies to flight changes made by Aug. 12 for travel completed within one year of the original ticket date.

Delta Air Lines

Delta has issued a change policy specific to flights in or out of Maui’s OGG Airport.

“When rebooked travel occurs on or before Aug. 18, 2023, in the same cabin of service as originally booked, the fare difference will be waived. A fare difference may apply when the waiver is class-to-class restrictive, and the original booking class is not maintained in the rebooked itinerary. There are additional conditions and restrictions listed to be aware of.”

Hawaiian Airlines

Hawaiian Airlines travelers can reschedule their flights at no cost for flights in and out of OGG scheduled between Aug. 9-20.

“You can reschedule your flight to new dates, no change fees will be charged, and we’ll waive any applicable fare difference and other fees related to changes or guest servicing on the same city pair for travel and same cabin of service,” per the waiver. “Tickets must be rebooked into the same compartment (Main Cabin or Business Cabin) by Aug. 18, 2023, and travel must recommence by Sept. 1, 2023, HST.”

Alternatively, these travelers can cancel their flights in exchange for a future flight credit, expiring one year from the original date of purchase. No change fees apply, but there may be a fare difference.

Hawaiian has increased the number of flights overnight to help people get off the island. Hawaiian’s CEO, Peter Ingram, announced that the airline is offering reduced $19 main cabin fares out of Maui to facilitate urgent travel needs, as reported by local news .

Southwest Airlines

Southwest Airlines customers with reservations to, from or through OGG between Aug. 9-Aug. 14 can rebook in the original class of service or travel standby for free, so long as the new travel lies within 14 days of their original date of travel between the original city-pairs.

Additionally, these customers can change their original departure or arrival flight to any of the below Hawaii airports without charge:

  • Hilo International Airport (ITO)
  • Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL)
  • Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport (KOA)
  • Lihue Airport (LIH)

United Airlines

United Airlines is allowing travelers to reschedule trips and will waive change fees and fare differences. However, your new flight must be a United flight departing between Aug. 8, 2023, and Aug. 16, 2023. The policy states that tickets must be in the same cabin and between the same cities as originally booked.

  • If your new trip is after Aug. 8, 2024, or is to a different destination, we’ll still waive any change fees, but you might have to pay a fare difference depending on the flight.
  • If you cancel or don’t take your trip, you can get a full refund.

What to do if you have a hotel or Airbnb booked in Maui

Most of West Maui is still without phone service, so you may not be able to contact your hotel to cancel your reservation. If you are unable to reach them, your next best option is to monitor your specific hotel’s social media channels and websites for any updates.

For example, the Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort is still operating, per social media. Some hotels — such as the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa and the neighboring Hyatt Residence Club Maui, Ka’anapali Beach — are closed to arrivals and currently plan to resume operations on Aug. 13. However, that could change.

Also, see if you can review your hotel’s cancellation policy as specified in your initial reservation regarding rebooking windows.

For reservations in the coming weeks outside of West Maui and the Kohala Coast of the island of Hawaii, the Hawaii Tourism Authority advises travelers to contact accommodations directly regarding upcoming stays, as hotels will be operating on a case-by-case basis.

If you booked through a third-party online travel agent (OTA) or aggregator like Expedia or Travelocity, it’s important to understand the cancellation policy. The OTA still owns your reservation prior to your travel , so contacting the hotel directly will likely result in you being referred back to the OTA or travel portal for assistance.

If you have already checked in for a trip  and need to make changes, you can work directly with the airline or hotel.

For those travelers who booked accommodations with Airbnb, the company has activated its “ extenuating circumstances policy ” for parts of Maui. Eligible guests with reservations will receive a full refund, and both hosts and guests can cancel bookings penalty-free, the company said on Wednesday.

Will your credit card or trip insurance cover changes?

  • Check your credit card’s benefits guide to check if you are eligible for coverage and what the limits are.
  • Call your credit card’s benefits administrator or start a claim online.
  • Determine which documents you need to collect.
  • Submit the documents within the required timeline.

What to do if you have a cruise to Hawaii

For cruise passengers, it’s important to understand the cancellation or rebooking policy for the specific cruise line you will be traveling on.

Cruise lines might reroute to avoid Maui and affected areas. Per the terms of the cruise contract to which you consent before sailing, cruise lines do not owe you compensation if they alter your itinerary. If changes are made, you will be refunded for any shore excursions you booked through the cruise line that were to take place in the ports you’re skipping. (Check with your tour provider directly if you’ve booked a third-party excursion.)

TPG’s guide on what happens if a cruise gets canceled is the next place to refer to for guidance if you receive notice that your cruise is canceled.

A spokesperson for Norwegian Cruise Line shared this statement with TPG regarding Pride of America, its Hawaii-based cruise ship, which sails weekly on a 7-night all-Hawaii cruise from Honolulu:

“We are deeply saddened to hear about the wildfires currently impacting the town of Lahaina in Maui. We have a very special relationship with the people and islands of Hawaii as we sail to the beautiful state year-round. It is a magical destination and one that is highly sought out by our guests for its natural beauty, culture and unparalleled experiences. We are closely monitoring the situation in Maui, impacting the west side of the island, opposite the Kahului Harbor, where we call. At this time, there is no impact on our scheduled itineraries. As always, our top priority is the safety and security of our guests and crew. We will communicate further updates as appropriate.”

Princess Cruises offered the following statement:

“Given the severity of these fires and their significant strain on local resources, Emerald Princess will cancel her scheduled call to Maui (Lahaina) on Monday, August 14, and will instead call to Kona.

As we continue to monitor the situation, we are actively reviewing the itineraries of our upcoming voyages. If any adjustments need to be made to our published itineraries, we will advise guests and our Travel Advisor partners.”

How to help support Maui’s recovery efforts

In collaboration with the Hawaii Community Foundation (HCF), state leaders and nonprofits, the Maui Strong Foundation is accepting donations to provide recovery and relief efforts.

“The Maui Strong Fund was created to provide community resilience with resources for disaster preparedness, response, and recovery,” according to the Hawaii Community Foundation. “The fund is currently being used to support communities affected by the wildfires on Maui,” with 100 percent of funds being distributed for community needs.

TPG and Lonely Planet have teamed up to donate $25,000 to the Maui Strong Fund, and if you also want to help, you can learn more about the organization and donate here.

Aloha United Way has established a Maui Fire Relief Fund on its website, auw.org, and 100% of the proceeds are directed to Maui United Way, whose partner agencies, such as Maui Food Bank, the Red Cross and the Salvation Army, are distributing relief funds according to the community’s most urgent needs.

Donating miles or cash via airlines

Hawaiian Airlines has updated its website with a message allowing loyalty members to donate HawaiianMiles, which will be used to transport volunteers and staff to Maui. Up to 30 million miles in donations will be matched by the airline for the month of August, and you must log into your account to donate.

American is also supporting the Red Cross disaster relief efforts, and AAdvantage members can earn 10 AAdvantage bonus miles for every dollar donated to the Red Cross via its microsite (minimum $25 donation).

Bottom line

This is a devastating, life-altering event for residents of Maui, local businesses and also for the island’s tourism industry.

The most important thing to consider right now is the safety of everyone on Maui and helping those affected by the disaster, both by considering tangible donations but also allowing space and time for relief and recovery efforts.

Adhering to the requests of local government officials to cancel or postpone trips to Maui at this time is the best course of action.

(CNN) – It was supposed to be the trip of a lifetime, but now it’s not happening.

Life at Sea Cruises says it had to cancel its three-year inaugural cruise because it doesn’t have a ship.

The voyage was originally due to depart from Istanbul on Nov. 1. After being postponed twice – and relocated to Amsterdam – the cruise is officially off.

Passengers are now out hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Some say they have nowhere to go, having sold or rented their homes in anticipation of the round-the-world voyage.

Life at Sea Cruises say it is working to refund passengers, but that will take a few months.

Maui Wildfire Leaves Cruise Port in Ruins

Picture of Doug Parker

Doug Parker

  • August 11, 2023

Maui wildfires that began last Tuesday ravaged several parts of Hawaii, including Lahaina Harbor. Now completely destroyed, cruise ships are forced to call on other nearby ports or omit it entirely from their itineraries.

Maui Wildfire cruise port

Lahaina Harbor is a cruise port for Princess Cruises, Celebrity Cruises, Royal Caribbean International, Holland America Line, Seabourn Cruises, and Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines.

So far, Princess Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line have announced itinerary changes. According to their spokesperson, Emerald Princess will replace its August 14 port stop at Lahaina by calling on the Kona Cruise Port instead.

Due to the Maui wildfire, the harbor in West Maui will remain inoperable indefinitely. Cruisers whose sailings include a stop at Lahaina should be on alert for updates from their cruise line.

Norwegian Cruise Line, which also calls at Maui’s Port Kahului and sails Hawaii year-round with Pride of America , has donated $50,000 to Hawaii Community Foundation. Along with the generous donation, the cruise line is donating a surplus of inventory to the island.

A GoFundMe page for tour operators and fishermen has been set up to support struggling local businesses.

Maui wildfire: Hawaii’s deadliest natural disaster in decades

Cruise ship in Hawaii

Six separate fires have been identified on Maui and the Big Island. The wildfires that began on Tuesday raged until Thursday night. After burning for three days, only 80% had been contained.

In an article by NBC News, Hawaii Governor Josh Green referred to the blaze as “ the largest natural disaster in Hawaii state history .”

As of today, the wildfires have claimed the lives of at least 55 people, a number that’s expected to rise in the coming days. The historic town of Lahaina almost completely burned down, and damages are estimated at billions of dollars.

Tourists and residents flee over Maui wildfire

Sandy Beaches of Maui

State Transportation Director, Ed Sniffen, reported that as many as 11,000 tourists left Maui by plane on Wednesday, while another 1,500 flew out on Thursday. Southwest Airlines has increased flights in and out of the island to get people off Maui.

Still, around 2,000 visitors were forced to seek shelter at the Kahului Airport after their flights were canceled.

The Hawaii Tourism Authority advised tourists, “Visitors on non-essential travel are being asked to leave Maui, and non-essential travel to Maui is strongly discouraged at this time.” Travel in Oahu, Kauai, Lanai, Molokai, and other areas of Hawaii are unaffected.

Meanwhile, 14,000 residents have been evacuated, and there are plans to evacuate 14,500 more. Authorities are preparing the Hawaii Convention Center in Honolulu for the thousands of displaced residents and tourists.

An official investigation into the cause of the fire has yet to be conducted. However, fire officials have said that Hurricane Dora’s winds aggravated the fire’s speed and intensity. Combined with low humidity and dry conditions, the fire spread with lethal speed, forcing some residents to jump into the ocean to escape.

NCL Cancels Kauai Napali Coast Sailing From Its Itinerary

The NCL Pride of America is about to undergo a significant itinerary change following the nearly twenty-year run of its weekly Hawaii cruise. And, unfortunately, it isn’t for the better. This was previously decided, for reasons unknown, and the final two regular Napali coast cruises, which are sold out, will depart soon.

The company will no longer cruise the famed Napali Coast along Kauai on its itineraries. That was arguably one of the most anticipated and best parts of the week-long all-Hawaii voyage. Read on for what that most incredible part of the journey was actually like.

Hawaii Cruises Remove Maui From Itineraries For Now

Na Pali Coastline was the chicken-skin moment of this Hawaii cruise.

It’s hard for us to describe the anticipation and excitement that more than three thousand passengers and crew experienced when pulling out of Kauai’s Nawiliwili Harbor and making the famous left turn to cruise up one of the world’s most spectacular and secluded coastlines. After about an hour’s time, the Pride of America ship started its approach towards the magical cliffs, lush valleys, and the famous beaches along the coastline. This is an area that is only accessible by boat, helicopter, or hiking.

When the Na Pali Coast was reached, a Native Hawaiian interpreter on board talked about the significance of the Na Pali and also offered sacred chant. It was beyond mesmerizing. If you’ve ever done this, you know it is an unforgettable experience and please share it with others in comments.

Hat tip to Cayla, who pointed out the itinerary change to us. Cayla said,

“After years of wanting to take NCL’s circle Hawaii cruise, I was finally in a position to book- and they’ve dropped the Na Pali Coast from the route. I don’t think alternatives like a helicopter or small boat would be accessible for our travel party, so almost instantly, NCL has de-prioritized Hawaii as a destination for us.”

The new NCL itinerary without Napali Coast extends time on Kauai.

NCL first leaves Honolulu on Saturday nights at 7 pm, then is docked Sundays and Mondays on Maui, Hilo on Tuesdays, followed by Wednesdays at Kona, and then Kauai on Thursdays at 8 am. Instead of leaving Kauai on Friday around 1 pm for the Napali Coast extravaganza, it will now remain docked until 5 pm, then sail directly back to Honolulu from Nawilidwili prior to disembarkation on Saturday morning.

Depending on any future activity at Kilauea Volcano, the ship may include a sail-by on Tuesday night after Hilo. That too was a mind-blowing experience of sight, sound, and smell. On that occasion as well, a Native Hawaiian interpreter was present on deck to help guide and inform the experience. It was awesome! Having that experience and the Napali Coast together in the same week made this sailing a complete stand out on an otherwise regular cruise.

Special act allows NCL to offer these interisland cruises without foreign ports.

Pride of America is a ship specifically tailored for all Hawaii itineraries. It is the only sizeable U.S.-flagged ship to sail within the Hawaiian Islands without visiting foreign ports. To do this, it had to qualify under the Passenger Vessel Services Act, which is the passenger equivalent of the cargo-related Jones Act .

The ship started as built here, and NCL bought the “remains” and finished the ship outside the USA. They could get the vessel qualified as American-built because of its history. This allows NCL to do its all-Hawaii itinerary to Oahu, Maui, Big Island, and Kauai without including a stop outside the country.

Why we like Pride of America.

BOH editors watched NCL Pride of America sail around our Hawaiian islands for years and wondered from afar what it would be like on board. We can recall being in the water at Hanalei Bay, watching the ship up there on Friday afternoons, and wondering what the view must be like.

You may recall that in 2005, upon its initial launch, the ship garnered less-than-favorable reviews. Following numerous inquiries by BOH readers asking about the cruise, we embarked on a week-long BOH-paid journey aboard to investigate. Initially, our expectations were relatively modest. We were, however, pleasantly surprised by the excellent service, good food, and the professionalism of the staff.

We liked it so well that we returned after the ship went through a dry-dock refurbishment.

NCL provides what we referred to before as a “Hawaii In A Nutshell” experience. For those who want to visit four islands in just one week, without airports, flights, or unpacking, this has been a great way to get introduced to Hawaii for two decades. For those who sometimes get seasick, as editor Jeff does, he found both sailings to be smooth even when traversing the notoriously turbulent Kauai channel and the Alenuihaha channel between Maui and the Big Island.

Is dropping the Napali Coast a dealbreaker for you when considering NCL Pride of America? If you’ve taken the cruise, what was it like for you?

46 thoughts on “NCL Cancels Kauai Napali Coast Sailing From Its Itinerary”

I was planning to cruise the Hawaiian islands but now that I know the cruise will not include the Nepali coast I am rethinking

My husband, daughters, and I have taken the cruise twice – most recently during Thanksgiving weekend. (We live on Oahu.) It’s a lovely itinerary, giving a taste of each of the main islands. We purposely scheduled both of our cruises to include the Napali Coast. The first time, it was truly magical. The second time, not so much. The ship departed the port late, so by the time we got to the coast, most of the sunlight was gone, so we couldn’t see much of the mountains. Also, we didn’t get nearly as close on that second cruise as we did the first cruise. Very disappointing. I don’t think we’ll do the cruise again.

I have taken the Pride of America Hawai’i cruise twice now. The first time had a somewhat reversed itinerary as the weather surrounding the islands was less than favorable. This last time (just over a month ago) was the regular itinerary but I do not recall anything associated with the Nepali coast. Either way, the cruise and excursions definitely make for a wonderful vacation. As this article states, it’s a great way to sample each island without the travel component, ie the ship does everything for transportation and accommodations not to mention dining. If you have the means to do the cruise I highly recommend it!

I took that cruise a few years ago and, at least on my cruise, the ship was too far away from the Napali coast to get much of a sense of its beauty. I’ve since seen the cliffs via helicopter and small craft and the views are spectacular. I wouldn’t count on experiencing Napali from a cruise ship.

By expanding the land time on Kauai, visitors will be able to see the Pali coast from scenic sights as well as the Grand Canyon. There is also a wonderful bird sanctuary.

We loved the itinerary but found the ship itself to be substandard. Food was mediocre. Too many unpleasant or indifferent crew that offset the good ones. Our return was unlikely and now even moreso.

Cruising by the Napoli coast was definitely the highlight of the Hawaiian island cruise. shame on NCL for removing that from the itinerary.

We’ve made many trips to Kauai and a visit to the Napali Coast is always a highlight. We’ve hiked it, flown over it on a helicopter and sailed by on catamaran. NCL has made a big mistake by dropping these beautiful vistas from their itinerary. In turn, we’ve dropped any plans to cruise on NCL again.

Yet, NCL is still advertising & selling cruises (last cruise departing on April 28th, 2024) as “Hawaii: Inter-Island & Na Pali Coast”. Description of the cruise it clearly states “from the lush, fragrant vegetation of Kaua`i and the famous vistas of the Na Pali Coast” . We purchased this cruise as it shows that there are only 2 more sailing dates w/this heading “Na Pali” coast; now to be told by NCL “resolution” supervisors that they do not know if the cruise we booked will actually go by the Na Pali Coast as advertised. Full description NCL: “6-Day Cruise On Pride Of America; Hawaii: Inter-island & Na Pali Coast from Honolulu, Oahu. “One of a kind 6 day cruise”. 03/16/24.

Very disappointed in NCL for dropping Napali coast. Thos os most people’s bucket list destination. At the price NCL charges for this cruise its very penny pinching to cut the cost sailing to save a couple of bucks! Start thinking about your guests!

GO CHASING WATERFALLS

Hawaiian cruises.

Experience Aloha with a cruise to Hawaii.

Just the word "Hawaii" conjures visions of turquoise waves lapping at colorful sands, a rich historical tapestry that's as Polynesian as it is American and a welcoming culture you can distill into a single word: Aloha. Once you arrive, trace the history of Pearl Harbor on Oahu, where you can tour battleships and see the memorial to that fateful day in 1941. Cruise to Hawaii and head to the Big Island to scale volcanoes like Mount Kilauea and chase waterfalls on the slopes of Mauna Kea. Or enjoy the sun and surf on the remote shores of Kauai and Maui. Discover the magic with a Hawaiian cruise.

Hawaii Rainforest

LET ADVENTURE FLOW

Hawaii offers some of the world's best in outdoor exploration. The best Hawaii cruises allow you to trek through the lush Hana Rainforest, or enjoy a more volcanic experience on the Big Island. Marvel at the lava flows of Kilauea, or savor the coffee that grows in the soil made fertile by millions of years of eruptions.

Hawaii Beach With City View

HIT THE BEACH

Hawaii is a group of islands with hundreds of beaches. Do you cruise to Oahu and hit Waikiki — where the people-watching is as good as the tanning — or to the scenic Napali Coast of underrated Kauai? Decisions, decisions.

Hawaii Forest Waterfall

RAINFOREST BATHE

Hawaii offers a tropical twist on the hip travel hobby called "forest bathing." It's all the rage among spiritually minded travelers these days and a great way to see nature close. Hike to Rainbow Falls on the Big Island, or through the lush Hana Rainforest on Maui.

Hawaii Volcano

PAL AROUND WITH PELE

The volcano goddess Pele takes many forms in Hawaii. Hawaii is the United States' most volcanic state, but your experience doesn't have to be death-defying. Daredevils will want to get up close and personal with the active lava flow of Kilauea, but you could instead hike up Mauna Loa, which is extinct.

Honolulu Iolani Palace

DIVE INTO THE CULTURE

Hawaii might look like a postcard, but it's more than just a pretty face. Your Hawaii cruise will let you counterbalance naps on Waikiki with a tour of the USS Missouri at Pearl Harbor or a visit to Iolani Palace, the residence of Hawaii's royal family.

Hawaii USS Arizona Memorial

MONUMENTS OF THE PAST

No trip to Oahu is complete without paying your respects to the victims of Pearl Harbor at the USS Arizona Memorial. However, there's a lot more to Hawaiian history. You should also learn about Hawaii's Polynesian heritage at Honolulu's Iolani Palace, the former home of the long-ruling Kamehameha dynasty.

Kona Coffee from Hawaii

GET TO KNOW YOUR MORNING JOE

When imagining Hawaiian beverages, you might think of a fruity drink with an umbrella, but the state is the only permanent coffee producer in the U.S. Head to the Big Island to tour the plantations where the good stuff is grown, from famous Kona Coffee to craft producer Mount Thunder.

Polynesian Cultural Center

WALK IN THE WAYS OF OLD

Hawaii's Polynesian past is still palpable today. On Oahu, check out the Polynesian Cultural Center, where you can tour six different recreations of traditional villages. Watch a Polynesian dance, play ancient games that have been handed down through the generations, and learn the old ways of fishing without a net.

WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO Hawaii Cruises Insider

Hawaii is ideal to visit 365 days per year, whether you're looking to laze on a beach, explore the rainforest explorer or scale a volcano. However, prices and crowds increase when kids are out of school and during Christmas and New Year's.

With warm weather year-round, Hawaii is one of the U.S.'s sunniest states. The rainy season goes from November to March, but don't worry too much about the weather during these months; it isn't a constant monsoon — there's simply a greater chance of showers.

Looking for a more remote Hawaiian getaway? Kauai's Napali Coast is renowned but surprisingly uncrowded. If you dock in Kauai, you can drive along the seemingly hidden Napali Coast. Even in Maui, which has become more popular, "secret" beaches (and red ones, like Kaihalulu Beach) provide respite from the crowds.

The Culture of Hawaii: History & Folklore

What is Hawaii's historical background? Who was Hawaii’s First King? Enjoy a tour guide tailored to you on the culture of Hawaii & its island folklores.

Plan some slower days during your trip to jibe with the leisure-loving locals. The phrase "island time" isn't a joke.

Don't discount mainstream destinations like Oahu's Pearl Harbor and Kilauea on the Big Island — they're popular for a reason!

While some best practices (like not walking too close to volcanoes) are obvious, be aware of lesser-known laws. For example, it's actually illegal to hike Honolulu's popular Haiku Stairs.

CUISINE POI, PORK, AND POKE

Seafood is an important part of the Hawaiian diet, but there's so much more to enjoy. Visit Hawaii and prepare for a feast like no other, with nods to Polynesia, Japan and even the American heartland.

Hawaii Ahi Tuna Poke Bowl

Poke bowls are a great way to enjoy Hawaii's renowned ahi tuna. Ahi tuna has become famous all over America, most commonly seared and added to Asian-style salads. The best way to sample this Hawaiian favorite, however, is in bowl form. There are several varieties of poke, with modern versions substituting avocado and spicy mayo for classic accompaniments like seaweed and rice.

Polynesian Pork Plate

POLYNESIAN PORK

Is there any meal more Polynesian than a whole, roasted pig? Vegetarians have plenty of choices in Hawaii, but this isn't one of them. After cooking for hours over an open flame, this tender meat is plucked off the bone and plated, or sandwiched in a Hawaiian roll.

Hawaii Taro Root Poi

POI, THE TASTY PASTE

Taro root is a common food in the Asia-Pacific region, but usually not in the U.S. — outside of Hawaii, at least. The purple paste known as poi is a puree of this much-loved root vegetable, and it pairs well with other Hawaiian staples, such as the aforementioned Kalua pork (dip it!) and fresh fish.

Dear Guest,

Due to a change in itinerary planning, and after exploring all our options, our upcoming October 1st, 2024 Quantum of the Seas sailing has unfortunately been cancelled.

There have been so many rumors about a Quantum class ship going to Los Angeles, so anybody’s guess is as good as mine. I’ve given up guessing what Royal will do with their ships 😉

So the Vancouver to Hawaii was canceled, but the cruise out of Singapore on Nov 19 is still there. Maybe non-revving from Vancouver to Singapore for drydock, then continuing down to Oz?

Unless that gets cancelled too…

Royal Caribbean has just announced itinerary change to the October 2024 Hawaii. The two days in Lahaina Maui will be skipped and they replace that with 1 day in Vancouver before departing, then head to Honolulu before going to Napali, then back to Honolulu for disembarkment. Don’t know what’s the point of spending the day in Vancouver and the ship will sails at 1pm. Very disappointed with this new itinerary. We’ll probably cancel to get a refund for this trip.

Welcome to Cruise Critic. That is a bad itinerary change. It is not surprising that Lahaina is out, but they could have replaced it with single days in Hilo and Kona. Isn't Napali just a sail by, (Sea Day)? Which ship were you booked on?

Where are you seeing this?  There is nothing on the Royal site for that itinerary.

Oops, never mind...must be the Ovation itin, not on the Quantum.

Thanks

Received an email today from Royal announcing the itinerary change to Honolulu instead of Maui. Ovation schedule from Vancouver Oct 4, 2024. My first trip to Hawaii so am okay with the change.

It's on the Ovation of the Seas. Sorry I forgot to mention that.

It on the Ovation of the Seas. Base on the information that I got, they will be staying in Vancouver until 1:00 Am the next day. That's AM so you cannot get out to do anything at all. The two days Lahaina Maui are cancelled. The Napali Kauai is only a cruise by (no shore stopping at the port). So the only port of call that you can get off the ship is Honolulu. This is a terrible itinerary and we are very disappointed. We'll cancel this trip and book something else.

That gives you embarkation day in Vancouver plus the full next day, you can checkin and then come and go for the next 37 hours, just be back by midnight of the second day.

According to the itinerary, embarkation is Fri. Oct 4.  Departure is Sat. Oct 5 @ 1:00 AM.  That would mean you only have embarkation day in Vancouver.

CVU

This means just after midnight of Oct. 4 meaning 1 AM on Oct. 5.

[Please know, our check-in remains unchanged, and all guests should be checked-in in and onboard by 5:00 PM.].  US Customs and Security would be closed at the Terminal, l I would assume.

I do not see that as an extra day in Vancouver.  All aboard at 5 PM the email told us.  It is just a delayed deaparture due to the Tide is how I see it.   Not an extra Vancouver day.

If was another Whole day it would be--- "Oct 6 @ 1 AM"      not Oct 5 @ 1 AM.

Agreed and sailing out of Vancouver is beautiful, so doing that in the middle of the night is another disappointment.  We were on the cancelled Quantum sailing, so knock after knock for us sadly.  We are coming from Scotland and can’t change flights without losing a lot of money, so we are pretty much stuck with moving over to this dreadful itinerary.

High tide that day is around 6:07pm... which means Ovation would be in danger of not passing under the Lion's Gate Bridge.

And guess approximately what time the lowest tide is? Yep .... 12:33am

We are not over night in Vancouver for a day in port.  It is just a later delay leaving in the dark.  Too bad as the sail away is quite lovely going by Stanley Park in Vancouver and squeezing under the Lions Gate Bridge.   This is our 3rd in a row for a Fall Ovation to Hawaii and we have had different times to depart for them all.  Tides do their own thing. LOL

If you’re looking to make an exotic destination your next vacation, let’s talk about the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of Hawaii. The answers are as follows: visit Hawaii on a Carnival cruise (of course), and… visit Hawaii because this place is simply spectacular! Take a Hawaii cruise and explore exotic locations spread across four islands — the Hawaiian island chain is home to names you know, like Maui, Kona and Honolulu. These spots feature postcard-worthy waterfalls, volcanoes and some of the world’s most stunning, sunning beaches. You’ll find these spread across an island chain so otherworldly that you may forget you’re in the states! Best of all, that postcard you’re sure to send home will require only domestic postage.

  • Experience some of the world's most famous beaches.
  • Get up-close with a volcanic mountain.
  • Hula it up at a real luau.

Princess Cruises' Star Princess ship delayed, 9 sailings canceled

hawaii cruise cancelled

Travelers will have to wait longer than planned to sail on Princess Cruises’ upcoming ship.

The delivery of Star Princess, which was set to debut next summer, will be pushed back by about two months. The cruise line said the delay was a “mutual” decision with shipbuilder Fincantieri.

“Following a comprehensive review of the remaining construction milestones, both parties have elected to adjust the ship's delivery date from July 29, 2025 to September 26, 2025, which will result in the cancellation of the nine inaugural sailings,” Princess said in a news release .

Guests whose cruises are impacted will be able to rebook on any Princess ship and, depending on which sailing they pick, receive future cruise and onboard credits. They will also be able to opt for a full refund of their fare instead.

“Despite our collective dedication and relentless pursuit to deliver the ship in late July, it has become evident that additional time is required to ensure the Star Princess is delivered to the highest standards expected by our guests,” Princess Cruises President John Padgett said in the release.

Your cruise was canceled: Now what?

The ship’s new inaugural itineraries will include 11 and seven-day Mediterranean cruises on Oct. 4 and 15, 2025, respectively. Those will be followed by a two-week transatlantic voyage to Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Oct. 22, 2025.

Those sailings will be available to book on April 30.

Star Princess will be the second in the line’s Sphere Class. Sister ship Sun Princess was also delayed ahead of its launch earlier this year, with Princess citing “additional technical work” needed at the shipyard.

Nathan Diller is a consumer travel reporter for USA TODAY based in Nashville. You can reach him at [email protected].

This is the announcement bar for Poornima to test the Close Button.  It will expire May 31 2024.

Hawaiian Islands cruise with more value

Sailing with Princess is a far better vacation value, and you’ll visit popular Hawaiian islands —  Oahu ,  Kauai  and the Big Island ( Hilo  and  Kona ) — without all the time-consuming hassle of island hopping by plane. Or sail out onto the scenic waters off Maui’s sun-kissed shores and witness in awe as humpback whales frolic about.

When it comes to  Kauai , good things come in small packages. Despite being the smallest of the four main islands, Kauai is home to the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific" Waimea Canyon, the lush Fern Grotto framed by Wailua River, and so much more. The stunning Na Pali Coast has served as the backdrop for Hollywood blockbusters, such as Jurassic Park and King Kong. With endless emerald landscapes, Kauai truly lives up to its nickname of "The Garden Island".

Nearly twice as big as all of the other Hawaiian islands combined, the Big Island ( Hilo and Kona ) is a paradise of black-sand beaches, tropical rainforests, and even snow-capped peaks at the soaring Mauna Kea summit. Feel the spiritual "mana" on a shore excursion in Waipi'o Valley, once the meeting place for Hawaiian kings and fabled to contain an otherworldly gate. At the famous Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, behold extraordinary lava landscapes and two of the world’s most active volcanoes.

Royal Caribbean is canceling all stops at this private island port due to over 2,500 deaths & injuries in 3 months

Royal Caribbean has stopped ships from docking at a private island port in Haiti due to ongoing violence in the region.

The cruise line canceled ships from docking at that port through May, but last week Royal Caribbean modified cruise schedules to avoid the port throughout the summer and into September, according to a post on the Royal Caribbean blog.

“Guests booked on cruises in the summer and early fall are getting notifications from Royal Caribbean that their visits to Labadee have been canceled,” the blog post stated . “On Tuesday (April 23), cruisers began to share updates they received from Royal Caribbean that their itineraries have been updated to drop Labadee and replace it with another port or a sea day.”

Labadee is a beach area owned by Royal Caribbean located on a peninsula in northern Haiti. It is barricaded from the rest of the country and has its own security force.

Between January and March of this year, more than 2,500 people were killed or injured due to violence across Haiti, specifically in the capital of Port-au-Prince.

Royal Caribbean International did not formally announce any changes on its website. Royal Caribbean Blog is not connected with Royal Caribbean International and is just a site for fans of the cruise liner.

However, the blog reposted a notice from the cruise liner about the itinerary changes without mentioning the violence.

“Due to the continuing situation in Haiti, we’ll now visit Grand Turk, Turks & Caicos, instead of Labadee, Haiti,” the notice reads. “We’re sorry for the change – your safety is our top priority. Nevertheless, we’re excited to visit a new port with you!”

This decision by Royal Caribbean comes after the U.S. issued a warning to tourists to avoid traveling to Haiti at this time due to an increase in gang-related violence.

Cruise line canceled while guests were already onboard

So much for thinking they had crossed their final hurdle.

Guests onboard the Royal Caribbean cruise line were told their trip was canceled and were being sent home despite already being aboard the ship.

Royal Caribbean International notified guests onboard Radiance of the Seas that the ship would not continue on an already-abbreviated Alaskan cruise. The trip was canceled, and guests had to disembark, CruiseHive.com reported.

The ship was set to leave from Vancouver, British Columbia, on April 26, but an earlier adjustment due to technical difficulties allowed guests to board on embarkation day while the ship was to spend two days in port undergoing repairs.

The revised plan features a Sunday departure and an adjusted route, with calls to Icy Strait Point and Ketchikan and scenic cruising in the famed Inside Passage before returning on May 3, which was the original completion date.

But it was later announced that the trip was being canceled due to repairs for a technical issue. Guests had to leave the ship by 4 p.m. Sunday.

“As you are aware, our teams have been vigorously working to have Radiance of the Seas prepared to set sail on our shortened April 26th sailing,” the letter given to passengers in their staterooms read, the unofficial cruise site RoyalCaribbeanBlog.com reported.

“Despite our best efforts, circumstances beyond our control have delayed our sailing further. As a result, we’ll regrettably have to cancel our April 26th, 2024, cruise,” the letter concluded.

Guests will receive a 100% refund of their cruise fare and a 100% future cruise credit that may be applied to any future Royal Caribbean sailing. Internet service aboard the ship was also open free of charge to allow for easier travel planning and offered a free open bar until debarkation.

The ship began to develop propulsion difficulties last week during a repositioning cruise from Los Angeles to Vancouver, causing multiple stops to be scrapped due to a slower speed.

NCIS: Hawai'i   is saying aloha. The  NCIS  spinoff has been canceled by CBS amid its third season, ET confirms.

Following the news, sources told  Deadline  that the show's season 3 finale was not intended to be a series ender, and will conclude with a tease for season 4 drama that'll never play out. However, a major cliffhanger is not forthcoming, according to the outlet.

The Vanessa Lachey -led spinoff was the fourth for the  NCIS  franchise -- the  New Orleans  and  Los Angeles  versions ended in 2021 and 2023, respectively -- and the first with a woman at its forefront.

As a whole, though, the franchise is a successful one.  NCIS  and  NCIS: Sydney  have both been renewed, for their 22nd and 2nd seasons, respectively. There's also a spinoff in the works at Paramount+, which will see  Cote de Pablo  and  Michael Weatherly  reprise their fan-favorite roles as Ziva David and Tony DiNozzo.

When ET spoke to Lachey about her role on  Hawai'i , she gushed about being "a part of this incredible franchise," which aired its  1,000th episode earlier this moth.

"To be the newcomer -- the baby at three seasons -- and to be able to celebrate 1,000 episodes of a television show, I don't know if people really know how big of a feat that is," Lachey told ET. "... I'm just honored and I'm constantly humbled and I'm very grateful. But I also don't take it for granted."

Lachey, who starred on the show alongside Alex Tarrant, Noah Mills and Jason Antoon, has yet to speak out about the show's cancellation.

“NCIS: Hawai’i” has been canceled at CBS .

The “NCIS” spinoff is currently airing its third season at the broadcast network. The season finale scheduled to air on May 6 will now serve as the series finale.

“NCIS: Hawai’i” was the fourth series in the “NCIS” franchise and is now the third series to end. Both “NCIS: New Orleans” and “NCIS: Los Angeles” ended in the past few years after seven and 14 seasons respectively.

Popular on Variety

“NCIS: Hawai’i” focused on Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey), described as “the first female Special Agent in Charge of NCIS Pearl Harbor. She has thrived and risen through the ranks by equal parts confidence and strategy in a system that has pushed back on her every step of the way. Together with her unwavering team of specialists, they balance duty to family and country while investigating high-stakes crimes involving military personnel, national security and the mysteries of the sun-drenched island paradise itself.”

The cast also included Alex Tarrant, Noah Mills, Yasmine Al-Bustami, Jason Antoon, Tori Anderson, and Kian Talan. “NCIS: Los Angeles” star LL Cool J also made recurring guest star appearances on the show, reprising the role of Sam Hanna, beginning in Season 3.

Matt Bosack, Jan Nash, and Christopher Silber created the series and served as executive producers along with Larry Teng. CBS Studios produced.

Very, very sad news for the NCIS: Hawai’i ohana : CBS ‘ island drama will not be returning for Season 4, TVLine has learned.

The cancellation news comes two weeks after NCIS scored a Season 22 pick-up and more than a month after NCIS: Sydney — the well-watched franchise’s first international offshoot — scored a Season 2 .

TVLine hears that at this time, there’s no information regarding NCIS: Hawai’i being shopped elsewhere. Our  Renewal/Cancellation Scorecard  has thusly been updated.

Other CBS series that got the hook this spring are CSI: Vegas and So Help Me Todd .

In addition to NCIS and NCIS: Sydney , CBS previously renewed FBI  (for Seasons 7, 8  and  9 ),  FBI: International (Season 4),  FBI: Most Wanted  (Season 6),  Fire Country  ( Season 3 ),  Ghosts  (Season 4), The Neighborhood  ( Season 7 ), The Equalizer (Season 5), Elsbeth (Season 2) and  Tracker  ( Season 2 ). It also “un-cancelled” S.W.A.T. , by announcing the cop drama would be back for an eighth season.

Young Sheldon  and  Bob Hearts Abishola  are currently unspooling their farewell runs, while  Blue Bloods  is airing the first half of a final season that will conclude in the fall.

CBS has one new NCIS spinoff, the “Young Gibbs” prequel NCIS: Origins , claiming a spot on its 2024-25 schedule, while a Tony/Ziva-centric offshoot is bound for Paramount+.

NCIS: Hawai’i will close out its strikes-shortened third (and final) season with a two-part finale airing Monday, April 29 and Monday, May 6. “There’s a lot of action,” Yasmine Al-Bustami, who plays Special Agent Lucy Tara, previously told TVLine. Oh, and: “There is death.”

That’s so dumb, NCIS Hawaii was the best NCIS, plus all the Hawaii of it all. Boo.

We love Hawaii and have been forcing ourselves to watch the original. Don’t care for any of the stories or characters on it any longer. So now, there will be no NCIS in our house.

I think CBS thinks that the ncis origins is going to do better than it actually will. They’re doing too much and getting rid of the ones that we like. I wanted to like Sydney, but it was bad. Canceling Hawaii is a bad move!

Ncis hawaii has become my favorite. Ncis Sydney is horrible. Especially the actress who plays agent Mackey. The OG NCIS has already told us the story of how gibbs became an agent. They don’t need to make a series out of it.

She’s the best part of the show for me.

I agree about Sydney, between that and Hawaii, I would much rather watch Hawaii.

I watch both!

CBS definitely thinks the Character of Gibbs is more important than Mark Harmon… This fall they will realize they are wrong, and wish they had put the Tony/Ziva P+ spinoff on the linear channel and not the streamer.

You are absolutely correct! CBS is always canceling the good ones and keeping the bad!

I don’t understand why the network does this. You make a good show get people drawn in then cancel??? It’s almost enough just to not watch any of the franchise so you don’t get disappointed. I had thought I wasn’t going to like NCIS Hawaii since they got rid of NCIS new Orleans but it wasn’t so bad. Now this???? So disappointing and bad for business. 😔😔😓

If not do better then at least be cheaper.

Hard disagree. NCIS: Hawaii was the worst. The original and Sydney are both so good. Hawaii was hit or miss most weeks.

I strongly agree.

B. A. L. O. N. E. Y.

Agreed! NCIS Hawaii, it’s cast and storylines, had real soul. Something we need more of in these trying times. Bad move CBS!

This one hurts. A lot.

Definitely going to hurt. CBS has been in relationship with the guy who gave them JAG & NCISverse; that’s 25-30 years now. The very least they should give it 1 more season like they did with New Orleans, LA. Sad sad sad news

Doesnt Surprise me – They ended NCIS: NOLA, so that NCIS: Hawaii could have a chance. Now, they have NCIS: Origins, NCIS: Tiva, plus NCIS: Down Under all in the line up, so something had to give. (And let us not forget the backdoor pilot of NCIS: Red that never got a chance)

I found NCIS:Down Under boring and unwatchable. It put me to sleep.

So, you fell asleep during 1 episode and gave up on the series. Lol!

I tried watching it because it came on before my next show. It just wasn’t working for me. The characters were not convincing as detectives. Not convincing as actors for this show. Never watched the Sydney series and never will.

We’ve lost NOLA, LA, and Hawaii in the last 3/4 seasons. Yet they keep adding spinoffs. Now, I do like Sydney, but I have no interest in Origins. I’m kind of interested in the Tiva spinoff, but I’d rather have the canceled shows than it or Origins.

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Bad decision, very bad decision. 😡😡😡😡😡

Bummer….I agree they are betting on the 2 new ones.

I agree! I wish CBS would make these cancelations make sense. First Todd and now this! Just put some things to mid season or summer if over run… After such a big milestone why is CBS watering down it’s juggernaut? I love NCIS H. Such a disappointment and shame. 😞 hopefully Paramount picks it up

Totally sucks 😡😡😡😡

Seriously? NCIS LA, NCIS Hawaii, So Help Me Todd, CSI Vegas, Young Sheldon – wtf? Way to tick off your diminishing audience.

This is a big mistake!! It was a good show to watch enjoying the scenery and the episodes were exciting. You TV Stations take off all the good shows and leave the crap and stupid series renewed. I don’t understand keeping trash shows instead of letting the good shows continue.

So Help Me Todd stands out as fresh and funny in these endless spin-off series. We need more humor and less cop shows!!

what a terrible look to make a huge deal about having vanessa lachey as the first female lead of an ncis franchise – then canceling it after hi-jacking the show with ll cool j. i won’t be investing in any other new cbs shows – not worth it. they should have at least renewed for a brief season so we could finish up story lines.

I was sorry to hear NCIS Hawai’i was canceled. It’s a very good program . I hope like S.W.A.T. they reverse their decision.

I am hoping with you. Let us pray!

these a-holes are just gutting CBS to death. what ar they thinking. i am about ready to CANCEL them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will also

Get a life lol. NCIS Hawaii just wasn’t believable with that 5′ tall Lucy and Vanessa Lachey as a SAIC. Terrible acting too!!

It’s not saic it’s sac

I have felt Vanessa Lachey was the wrong choice as the lead, she just isn’t a very good actress and it drags the shows quality down when she is on screen. I know they probably wanted a name to hang the show on which the Lachey surname provided but didn’t want to have to pay the level of salary that a Scott Bakula/Chris O’Donnell/LL Cool J would demand but it didn’t really work

I totally agree. To me, Jane Tennant has always been missing something and Vanessa is trying to hard to make it work. It’s not believable like Katrina Law. Sorry for those that disagree.

She is an MTV hype salesperson more than an immersive performer. The “1000th episode” Entertainment covered her interviews disproportionately. On the other hand, Gary Cole’s interview time was under 2 minutes. Total.

You are so right, what and who are making these decisions? They are definitely not going by the ratings either. Every time you get invested in a new show they cancel it before it gets started good. CRAZY

Figures they’d cancel it with all their other orders and how long it’d been taking to renew it. Too bad because the show still had a lot of potential. The return on the NCIS spinoffs is getting shorter with each series as LA got 14 seasons, New Orleans got 7, and now Hawaii had only 3. That doesn’t bode well for NCIS: Sydney or Origins.

CBS, you’re failing! You cancelled Blue Bloods and now NCIS Hawai’i? What’s wrong with you? I’m surprised and insulted. Those shows had great numbers.

Poor decision

Okay CBS, that’s the end of you in our house. This is ridiculous. Just had to make room for Harmon’s new Originals show and Elsbeth. You did the same with New Orleans to make room for Hawaii. If you aren’t devoted to fans, why should we be devoted to you? You’ve cancelled Blue Bloods which was the best show on TV. You renewed SWAT and FIRE COUNTRY and cancelled BB and Hawaii? FC doesn’t really change week to week, my opinion, you’ve seen one you’ve seen them all. No thanks. I wonder if the networks ever consider why the streaming shows win all the awards.

Fire Country is a snooze fest all it is is a Chicago Fire ripoff from a guy who decided to leave SEAL Team

what a bummer, loved this show!

Extremely disappointing but changes this season probably did not help. The show is not as fun, as it was the previous seasons, including some of the personal stories, and it seems the addition of LL Cool J is forced, with no defined role, just hanging there. Basically the writers got lazy and killed this show. Shameful.

I so agree..the sam hanna character ruined the dynamics of the original team.

😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳 Noooooooo!!!!

Bye bye Sam Hanna, again 😔

Really surprised Sidney got renewed and this one didn’t. Sydney is a snooze-fest.

Agree totally

I had an opposite opinion of the two shows, but I’m still surprised they canceled hawaii. I was actually thinking CBS would give them a half season order and have them share the time slot with Sydney if they be a similar season length to their s1.

Sydney is more of a Paramount+ Australia and Network 10 production with CBS taking up US rights. It will be relatively cheap for CBS due to this and it might have still continued even if CBS had passed as it would have still had the Paramount+ money in the US and from most of the other international Paramount+’s plus a handful of other international broadcaster

Exactly Simon. And they are paying peanuts compared to US salaries. If you did a side by side of the Sydney crew income vs the American ones (in every department, including post) it’s far less than half.

After watching the first episode of Sydney I thought it would never get a second season but as time went on it really did improve. I binge watched it again after the season was over. I am looking forward to the new season.

I will never understand why Networks end good series like this. It’s no wonder people watch more cable networks now than the broadcast ones.

The ratings were terrible and falling. That’s why. If you knew that, you wouldn’t be making an overly histrionic statement like everyone else here is doing.

Also, they produce the show in Hawaii, which is very expensive.. IIRC, they were trying to have 2 shows filming there to reduce costs, but the complex ownership of Magnum made it impossible to continue that show. Unfortunately, this is the real world and costs matter!

You are wrong. Ncis h ratings went up only two did for cbs. In addition it had the highest ratings of the 10:00 shows. The ratings were not the problem. And the ratings were higher than Sydney. While the original has gone down. Hawaii went up. The problem is bad planning by the execs. Elspeth and Matlock will not attract young people. Few shows at cbs have corporate sponsors-ncis H was sponsored by Subaru. No wonder Summer Redstone is turning in his grave

👎🏻 Terrible news. Would rather watch NCIS Hawaii than Young Gibbs. After cancelling this and CSI VEGAS I’m will not watch any new CBS shows. 👎🏻

I’m sure they will really miss you, NOT!!

I think their analysis may be flawed. NCIS:Sydney was not competing with anything when it got its numbers. I watched it, yes, but there was no other NCIS airing at the time and almost no other TV drama. I wonder how many others felt the same. If I had to choose one NCIS to go, it would be Sydney, not Hawaii. There is no way to pull that sort of information, in terms of overall audience response, from the viewer statistics.

Sydney could be the lowest rated drama on the Network and they would likely keep it as its not a CBS commission so pay peanuts for it

Wow. I am shocked. Thought NCIS was all pretty much safe. Wish they would cancel Fbi International instead. Especially with Luke leaving now

Well you just opened up more time for me. With LA canceled and now Hawaii, I have no time for Sydney and you can keep origins for whomever because I will not be watching. We cancel good and keep less. Goodbye to NCIS. Movies for me from now on, no network TV, you can keep all the ridiculous commercials that are on now.

I am soooooo upset to see Hawaii go. It was so good and Vanessa was excellent. I watched NCIS: Sydney and found it to be subpar. Boring with bad stiff acting and cookie-cutter directing. Wow. Todd, CSI and now Hawaii – 😡 thank goodness for the FBI’s.

Why is everyone bashing Sydney? It is an Australian show so couldn’t be canceled by CBS and got great ratings both in Australia and the States. New NCIS and too many shows on the schedule are probably why it got canceled

There wasn’t any competition when Sydney aired so of course it did well. I didn’t find it believable. (As much as we can find any of it believable.)

NCIS: Sydney was originally not going to air in the US, only in Australia, but when the actor’s and writer’s strikes happened in the US, CBS need to fill air time so they decided to air the show. The renewal of the Sydney show is not at fault for the cancellation of NCIS Hawaii.

Exactly. It’s one thing to not enjoy Sydney, but it’s another to blame it for Hawaii getting cancelled. I think Hawaii was sacrificed for their Gibbs obsession (Origins).

I agree n I’m not sure if it will be watched cause mark Harmon won’t be in it

Got good ratings against nobody. It is a flowed show with bad accents. Cbs will be bankrupt soon. I know I am done with them

Very stiff acting, especially the lead American female.

Vanessa Lachey is/was horrible and so was Lucy, a 5′ tall NCIS agent 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I think they’re talking about the lead of Sydney, Olivia Swann, who is really British playing American. She was the weak link of the Sydney team.

It is a shame. The first female lead franchise wasn’t given a chance. Boycotting Origins.

Right now, I’m shopping for a Voodoo doll for CBS and Paramount+. I watch very little TV and between this and Star Trek my TV schedule is shrinking. :-(

I live in New Orleans. HA!

wow the optics aren’t great for CBS – canceling a female-lead and diverse show. won’t be bothering to watch future CBS dramas, they’ll just cancel them if they’re good. kacy wasn’t given justice – and sam hanna’s presence wasn’t necessary or beneficial as it turns out. guess i can cancel paramount plus too!

It’s all about DEI with you libs. The show was canceled bc Vanessa Lachey can’t act!!

Why does there always have to be some moron that makes it political 🙄

I may be in the minority here, but I really liked Sam Hannah‘s character on this show. I wasn’t ready for NCIS LA to be gone, and so I loved Sam’s character, hoping that we would see other characters from LA showing up in Hawaii. I’m so discouraged about this show being canceled. I don’t watch a lot of TV, and this just royally bums me out.

‘Survivor’ Host Jeff Probst Says Season 50 Will Feature All Returning Contestants

Canceled or renewed 2024: which broadcast tv shows are coming back, cbs cancels ‘so help me todd’ & ‘csi: vegas’, when does a new episode of ‘survivor’ air season 46, episode 3 time, streaming info.

CBS has canceled NCIS: Hawai’i after three seasons. Starring Vanessa Lachey , it was the popular franchise’s first female-led iteration.

Season 3 of the NCIS spinoff is currently airing on the broadcast network, with its season (and now series) finale scheduled to air on May 6.

NCIS: Hawai’i was the fourth series in the NCIS franchise and is now the third series to end. Both NCIS: New Orleans and NCIS: Los Angeles ended in the past few years after seven and 14 seasons respectively.

The original NCIS series, however, was renewed at the beginning of April for Season 22. According to Deadline , CBS is also working on a prequel series about a young Jethro Leroy Gibbs and Paramount+ is readying a spinoff featuring Cote de Pablo and Michael Weatherly who will be reprising their roles.

NCIS: Sydney is also going strong at Paramount+ and CBS after being renewed for Season 2 in March.

NCIS: Hawai’i was the last scripted show awaiting a decision at CBS for the forthcoming 2024-2025 season. The network had recently announced that it had canceled CSI: Vegas and So Help Me Todd . It had also previously announced that Young Sheldon , Bob Hearts Abishola , and Blue Bloods were ending.

NCIS: Hawai’i centers on Jane Tennant (Lachey), who is described in the show’s synopsis as “the first female Special Agent in Charge of NCIS Pearl Harbor.

Also starring in the series is Alex Tarrant , Noah Mills , Yasmine Al-Bustami , Jason Antoon, Tori Anderson , and Kian Talan. NCIS: Los Angeles star LL Cool J also reprised his role of Sam Hanna in the series beginning in Season 3.

CBS Studios produced the series, which was created by Matt Bosack, Jan Nash, and Christopher Silber, who also executive-produced alongside Larry Teng.
