All the Best Toronto Holiday Markets you Need to Explore This Festive Season!

holiday market travel toronto

Do you love Christmas markets ? Well, me too ! And as much as I wish I could spend the entire winter travelling around Europe, visiting their historic Christmas markets, most years, I find myself in my hometown of  Toronto . And while Toronto might not have the cache that many old European towns have, we have no shortage of charming holiday markets . The ones with twinkling lights, carol singers and plenty of mulled wine. Filled with hundreds of handicrafts and delightful festive goodies. These Toronto Holiday Markets are the perfect place to buy gifts or fill your own stockings!

holiday market travel toronto

Whether you are a local or a tourist, these holiday markets are a great way to support local businesses and neighbourhood creative artisans. But, with so many different options, it can be tricky to know which markets are worth visiting. So I’ve put together this helpful list of the best Toronto Holiday Markets you won’t want to miss during this beautiful time of year!

The Distillery Winter Village

When you visit the  Distillery District  during the holidays, you will feel like you are in a winter wonderland! The  Distillery District  is one of Toronto’s most charming spots. Built in 1832, the old  Gooderham and Worts Distillery  has been preserved to be enjoyed by locals and tourists alike. The cobblestone streets and restored Victorian Industrial buildings have been transformed into a pedestrian-only neighbourhood with amazing restaurants, cozy bars and unique boutiques.

And there is no better time to visit the Distillery District than at Christmastime! The entire neighbourhood is converted in November into the Distillery Winter Village . The streets are transformed with millions of twinkle lights and bright Christmas baubles. Wooden market stalls pop up to mirror those traditional European Christmas Markets . It’s a great spot to do some holiday shopping! The market hosts over 65+ unique and local shops, artisans, restaurants and cafés. So whatever you’re looking for, you most likely will be able to find it here!

Hours & Admission

The market opens  on November 17th,  and the event’s last day is  December 31st.

Tickets are required on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays after 4:00 PM and December 27-31 after 4:00 PM.  At all other times, access is free of charge and tickets are not required . Your ticket time window indicates what time you can enter the distillery. But there is no limit to your visit duration.

The market is always packed on the weekend after 4 PM, hence the requirement for ticketing so they can control crowd levels. If you can go during the week, this will be your best chance to visit when it’s less busy. I always advise going during the week if you can.

Tickets are $11 + HST each. Kids 9 and under are FREE of charge.

One-of-a-Kind Winter Show

The  One-of-a-Kind Show  is an arts & crafts fair held a few times a year in the huge Enercare Centre within Exhibition Place. Every year at Christmas time, over 600 artists from across the country gather to sell their handmade goods. This is often my favourite spot to shop for Christmas presents and unique seasonal decor. The stuff you find here, you won’t find anywhere else ! It’s nice to have such one-of-a-kind pieces of festive decor that your friends and family will be in awe of this Christmas.

With over 600+ vendors, you can wander the floor for hours. Just admiring all the incredible things people can create! Sometimes it feels more like going to an art gallery than a craft show! But here, you can actually afford most of the art you see on the walls!

Swedish Christmas Fair

The  Swedish Christmas Fair  was always one of my favourite events in Toronto! I sorely missed it when it was closed in 2020 and 2021. But I rejoiced when I heard it would be back in 2022! The  Swedish Christmas Market  is hosted by  SWEA Toronto . This adorable marketplace features Swedish designs, products and folk art that will surely add some Scandinavian flair to your holiday decor. I fondly remember my trip to Stockholm at Christmas and all the wonderful Christmas markets. But being back at the Swedish Chrismas Fair in Toronto feels like being right back there, without ever having to get on a plane.

Be sure to stop by the cafe to get a hot plate of meatballs and lingonberry jam. There are also many events throughout the day, like a St. Lucia procession, Swedish Folk Dancers and Swedish Christmas Singers. It’s a great event to learn more about Swedish Christmas traditions. But my favourite part? The traditional  Glögg , which is Swedish mulled wine. This beverage is the perfect drink to make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. M

Leslieville Christmas Pop-up Market

Most people who visit Toronto rarely experience the  east end  of the city. The downtown core definitely hogs all the attention. But in my opinion (and I suppose I’m biased since I live here), this is a sorely overlooked part of town. The east end is full of charming architecture, a laid-back atmosphere and fantastic shopping and restaurants. But to find all that east-end energy in one place, you should head to the  Leslieville Christmas Pop-up Market.  The market is held every weekend in December. It features 30-40 local artisans and east-end businesses selling all the best Christmas goodies! Plus all sorts of handmade items, perfect for your Christmas gift list. In addition to the shopping, there is also a hot chocolate bar, a chance to meet Santa, ornament-making workshops and a children’s craft corner! Something for everyone 🙂

Address: 911 Queen St East, Leslieville Dec 3-4 | Dec 10-11 | Dec 17-18 | FREE admission

Toronto Botanical Garden Holiday Market

If you’re looking for an eco-friendly option for your Christmas Shopping, you should check out the Annual Toronto Botanical Garden Holiday Market . Over 65 local vendors come here to showcase their planet-friendly and botanically-themed festive products. If you love nature-based decor, this is the place to go. Everything from handmade real Christmas wreaths, seasonal plants, and vibrant poinsettias. There are even rare flower bulbs to give as gifts, great for planting in the spring! There are also Holiday Decor Demonstrations where you can learn how to make gorgeous floral arrangements! Something that will impress all your friends and family when they see it on the walls. And don’t forget to grab a fresh hot drink or light bite over in the charming Bloom Cafe !

Friday, November 25, 2 to 8 pm | Saturday, November 26, 10 am to 4 pm | Sunday, November 27, 10 am to 4 pm. If you buy your tickets in advance, they are $10 per person. Tickets cost $15 at the door, so it’s best to buy them in advance to save some coins! Address: 777 Lawrence Ave E, North York

The Toronto Artisan Market is a non-profit organization that supports and benefits local artisans and the neighbouring community. Every year, the organization hosts a holiday market at the Twist Gallery on Queen Street West. Everything from holiday gifts to original art, handmade jewelry, skincare, ceramics, home goods and more can be found here. One of the best places in the city to shop for the most uniquely creative gift options! Even if you have no idea what to get someone for Christmas, this is the place to get inspired. You’ll be amazed at what you find and how happy you will be to discover the perfect something for that special someone you didn’t even know they needed!

Holiday Fair at Nathan Phillips Square

Every year, Nathan Phillips Square is a hub of Christmas activities and transforms into a magical winter wonderland. It is one of my favourite places to come at the start of the season to get into the Christmas spirit. And this year, their holiday fair has returned once more! This fantastic market is entirely free and open almost every day of the week! In addition to the fantastic vendors, there is a mesmerizing winter carnival with an old-fashioned carousel, carnival games and more! It is the perfect place for the kids to get that memorable meet-and-greet with Santa! And for the adults, there is the Polar Point bar. This holiday cocktail bar features seasonal favourites like mulled wine, hot apple cider, seasonal beer, liquor, and wine.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Holiday Fair In The Square (@holidayfairto)

The brilliance of this market is the number of food trucks there selling delicious treats for you to enjoy! Potato Twists, Korean fried cheese, hot dumplings and Tiny Tom’s Donuts are just some Toronto street food classics you can get here at the market. Exhibiting the creative flair and cultural diversity of our city is of the utmost importance at the Holiday Fair at Nathan Phillips Square .

December 2nd to December 23rd (Closed Mondays) Tuesday to Thursday – 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm | Friday to Saturday – 12:00 pm to 10:00 pm | Sunday – 12:00 pm to 9:00 pm Address: 100 Queen St W, Toronto

Stackt Holiday Hills

Stackt Market is North America’s largest shipping container market and is located in the heart of Toronto’s downtown. Literally stacked up, one on top of the other, a series of recycled shipping containers are now home to various shops and restaurants. Everything from microbreweries to local artisans. It is also a relaxed place to go and get some of the most incredible views across the city. Pop-up vendors arrive at the holiday market during the festive season. They join various Christmas workshops, winter games, and festive experiences like the giant inflatable Santa’s Village! Their fire pits are the perfect place to relax with friends while keeping warm under a picturesque snowfall. There is also an ironically Canadian s’more station! Perfect to nosh on a delicious sweet treat while enjoying the magical ambiance all around you.

Evergreen’s Winter Market

Evergreen Brick Works is one of those Toronto landmarks we all have fond memories of since it hosts some of the city’s best events! The former brick-making factory along the Don River has been transformed into one of the trendiest outdoor events spaces in the city! Evergreen prides itself on building sustainable practices that enable flourishing cities of the future. This year, after some closures during 2020 and 2021, they are hosting their Festive Winter Market again. This one-day-only event features everything from a delicious food court, a charming skating rink to immersive hikes along their wintery trails. And, of course, lots of vendors selling sustainably produced and handmade items along with artisan and vintage items. This is the place to experience a variety of classic Canadian Christmas traditions in one spot!

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Evergreen Brick Works (@evergreen_brick_works)

The firepits light up at night, and you can grab a winter-inspired cocktail from the bar to enjoy while relaxing in the warmth. The skating rink is open all night, and under a swath of twinkle lights, it is something out of a Hallmark Christmas movie. At 7 pm, the space comes alive with live music, so grab your loved one and hit the dance floor! While many think Evergreen Brick Works is a little out of the way for tourists to easily visit, thankfully, the Evergreen Shuttle is back! This shuttle bus really helps make the journey as seamless as possible. Simply ride the subway to Broadview Station and hop on the shuttle. It runs every 30-45 minutes from the parkette north of the subway.

December 18th | 11am-5pm & evening activities from 6pm-9pm Free and open to the public Address: 550 Bayview Ave, Toronto

Hopefully, these Toronto Holiday Markets are the perfect place for you to check off all the items on your Christmas list! Let me know in the comments what you’re searching for this holiday season!

CAN I PERFORM ON STAGE AT THE TORONTO CHRISTMAS MARKET?

The 2023 Toronto Christmas Market entertainment schedule has been finalized. If you’d like to be considered for the 2024 Festival, please reach out to [email protected] in spring 2024.

WHAT DAY IS THE ST. NICHOLAS CELEBRATION?

Unfortunately the Toronto Christmas Market will not be hosting a St. Nicholas/ Sinterklaas celebration this year.

ARE PETS ALLOWED AT THE MARKET? DISTILLERY SHOPS AND RESTAURANTS?

Pets are allowed at the Toronto Christmas Market. However, we do not recommend bringing your pet on a weekend as it is our busiest time, and often not the most comfortable environment for pets to be walking around.

Pets are not permitted on restaurant patios or inside restaurants due to health and safety regulations.

IS THE TORONTO CHRISTMAS MARKET ACCESSIBLE?

The Distillery Historic District is an accessible site and provides for mobility-accessible parking, ramp access to buildings, shops and restaurants, washrooms with child changing facilities, and wheelchair accessible stalls.

We remind all visitors of the Distillery District that the streets inside the District are made of cobblestone and are in some locations uneven, and that the popularity of the Toronto Christmas Market gives way to large crowds during peak times, often making it harder to manoeuvre.

I HAVEN’T RECEIVED MY SANTA PHOTOS YET.

Santa’s House photos may take up to 48 hours to be sent via email.

Please let us know by emailing [email protected] if you do not receive the photo after 48 hours.

ARE THERE AREAS OF THE MARKET INSIDE?

The Toronto Christmas Market is an outdoor Festival, with all of the vendors, and activities taking place outside. If you are looking for areas that are protected from the elements, we suggest visiting one of the permanent Distillery District retailers or restaurants which are open 7 days a week.

ARE THERE TORONTO CHRISTMAS MARKET OR DISTILLERY DISTRICT TOURS AVAILABLE?

The Toronto Christmas Market itself does not offer tours, but Go Tours Canada is on-site and they offer walking tours through the Distillery District during the Christmas Market.

Click here for more details and to book your tour.

I’D LIKE TO HAVE A PROFESSIONAL PHOTOSHOOT DONE IN DISTILLERY

Please note: Personal Photo Permits are not available on weekends during the Toronto Christmas Market due to large crowds on site.

If you would like to obtain a permit for weekday photos, please click here

Please be mindful at all times that the Distillery District is a lively neighbourhood, and that many other activities will be going on during your shoot, especially during the Toronto Christmas Market.

Distillery Personal Photo Permits are $225 plus hst. for four consecutive hours of photography. Purchased permits are non-refundable.

If you are interested in a commercial photography shoot or filming at the Distillery please email [email protected]

Here is a list of some of the festive events, markets and celebrations happening in the city this weekend.

The 2022 Distillery Winter Village

The annual holiday market at Toronto’s Distillery District opened with a tree lighting ceremony last weekend and is now open, starting at 12 p.m. (noon), Tuesday to Sunday until Dec. 23.

Tickets are required after 4 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, but otherwise admission is free.

Distillery District shops, restaurants and cafés will be open starting at 10 a.m. daily, seven days a week, until Christmas day.

“The Distillery Winter Village is a one-of-a-kind, outdoor holiday market where visitors can take-in the timeless romance of the holidays, celebrate with family and friends, and enjoy specially curated vendor cabins full of seasonal items and gifts, plus delicious, can't-miss food,” says the Winter Village on its website.

One of a Kind Winter Show

The annual One of a Kind Winter Show kicked-off on Thursday and will be open every day starting at 10 a.m. until Dec. 4 in the Enercare Centre at Exhibition Place in Toronto.

This is the 47th edition of the event that showcases Canadian artisans who make a wide-variety of unique holiday gifts.

“The 2022 One of a Kind Winter Show will feature over 600+ dedicated Canadian artisans, with products ranging from home decor to fashion, toys, artisanal food items and much more. The One of a Kind show allows everyone to discover the wonder of creativity and craft, with many artisans offering custom work that allows shoppers to walk away with a gift at every price point that they can’t get anywhere else,” the show said in a press release.

“This year’s theme is Gifts of Wonder. As the country’s flagship shopping event for Made in Canada items, One of a Kind brings together talented makers, designers, and entrepreneurs under one roof to sell items from home decor, toys, jewelry and more. What sets One of a Kind apart is the art of discovery and the unique opportunity to connect with the local community. One of a Kind’s extensive repertoire of artisans makes it easy to shop for everyone on your gift list while supporting your local community.”

When it comes to celebrating the holidays, Toronto never fails us. Every year, you can expect the most festive and bright experiences to take over the city during the cold months. And it’s safe to say that this new holiday market will surely add to the fun. The Street Eats Market is back with a joyous new holiday market and it’s coming to the CN Tower.

Starting December 1st, the Holiday Street Market will open up shop at the bottom of the CN Tower. And the greatest thing about this is that admission is absolutely free.

You can expect a number of festive food offerings and local artisans in wooden cabins, showcasing their latest creations.

Even if you don’t get anything at the market, you can still enjoy the festive holiday vibes and take part in photo ops.

As a matter of fact, according to organizers, there will be plenty of photo ops and weekend activities for all.

“Eat, drink, and be merry this holiday season. We can’t wait to see this exciting transformation at the bottom of the CN Tower,” shared organizers .

But that’s not all. Not only is the Holiday Street Market taking over the CN Tower base, but it’ll also be at The Bentway from December 2nd to the 31st.

Just add these to your holiday to-do list, along with the Distillery Winter Village , Holiday Magic in Yorkville, and all the other events to come.

Needless to say, there’s a lot to do in the city this holiday season and we’re not complaining.

by Stephanie · Published December 5, 2021 · Updated December 27, 2022

Tis the season to get in the holiday spirit! And what better way to do that than to attend one of the many Christmas Markets in Ontario! Christmas markets have a long history dating back to the middle ages in Germany. They are a fabulous way to check off those on your holiday shopping list, enjoy a festive night out with friends or family, and celebrate the holiday season. So, I’ve compiled a list of the best Christmas Markets in Ontario that yule love, from popular big city ones to charming small town markets. Let’s ring in the season with some elfish fun!

5 Best Christmas Markets in Ontario: Big City Merry Markets

It’s an annual tradition of mine to visit the Toronto Christmas Market. But I went on the hunt for more great big city Christmas Markets in Ontario and turns out there are plenty! Below you’ll find the top Christmas Markets in Ontario in big cities from Southern to Eastern Ontario. Raise your mug of mulled wine and get ready to start planning your next winter getaway to one of these holiday markets!

Toronto Christmas Market

Toronto Christmas Market

A holiday tradition for many is to head to Toronto for the famous Toronto Christmas Market in the historic Distillery District. Running for close to ten years, it’s the best Christmas market in Toronto! In 2020 it changed its name to The Distillery Winter Village but it still has that European Christmas Market atmosphere! You’ll find everything from fabulous food stalls to local goods, a beer hall, and festive light displays.

The Toronto Christmas Market is the perfect reason to head to Toronto for a dreamy winter getaway! It kicks off at the end of November with the tree lighting. With a giant Christmas tree, a countdown to Christmas day, carolers, elves, and Santa, this is one of the top festive things to do in Toronto ! The atmosphere really amps up when the daylight fades and all the lights strung overhead turn on. This highlights the garland and adds a holiday glow. Plus there are always great photo-ops, like light displays and the Distillery’s classic big heart.

Weekends are extremely busy, so if you can try to visit during the week. There is a cover charge through the weekends and from December 27th – December 31rd after 4:00 pm. But it’s free Tuesday through to Friday before 4pm. Note that the Distillery Winter Village is not open Mondays, except for December 20.

Date: November 17 – December 31, 202 2

Niagara Falls Christmas Market

Many people travel to Niagara Falls in the winter to see one of the best light displays in Ontario , the OPG Winter Festival of Lights. Along with the festival, there’s a host of things to do in Niagara Falls, from quirky attractions on Clifton Hill to the majestic falls. It’s also home to one of the best Christmas Markets in Ontario, the Niagara Falls Christmas Market.

The Niagara Falls Christmas Market is located downtown and is home to over 50 vendors in traditional wooden huts. Vendors will be selling everything from handmade goods to food. It’s the biggest Christmas Market in the Niagara Region and is filled with a ton of festive activities like tree lighting at City Hall, a Santa Claus parade, and so much more. The market runs on weekends from mid-November through to mid-December and the best part is it’s free! Don’t let the chill of winter weather stop you from going! You’ll find fire pits to warm up to.

Whether you’re looking for somewhere to get a little local holiday shopping done or a fun weekend in Niagara , be sure to pop into the market at night! When darkness falls the market comes alive with strings of lights overhead and over 30 light displays for those Instagrammable photo-ops! In addition to the market and light displays, there are carolers, photos with Santa, and more to put you in that blissful holiday spirit.

Christkindl Market in Kitchener

Christkindl Market

Every year, dating back to 1997, Kitchener puts on one of the best Christmas Markets in Ontario! Christkindl Market is a multi-award-winning festival that brings a taste of European Christmas Markets to Ontario. So, if you’re looking for a slice of Europe in Ontario this holiday season head to Kitchener at the beginning of December!

The Christkindl Market takes over downtown Kitchener with over 20 classic wooden huts outside as well as over 10 indoors. Usually, the indoor portion of the market takes place in the Kitchener City Hall but it is currently closed for construction. So instead you’ll find all the indoor vendors at Concordia Club along with free parking. You’ll find a ton of great gift ideas at the market, ranging from clothing to cute décor items.

One of the highlights is all the incredible specialty food to feed your Santa belly. So be sure to go hungry and leave with more to bring home! One of my favourites is the famous apple fritters from Das Fritter Haus. They are well worth the long line! Along with Canadian holiday favourites you’ll find all the best must-haves from Germany like schnitzel and Glühwein! On top of great food and shopping, there’s a Christmas tree lot, live entertainment, and more! For more information check out their website here .

Ottawa Christmas Market

Ottawa Christmas Market

Our Nation’s Capital is home to a ton of festive things to do during the holiday season! Ottawa is definitely one of the top Ontario winter road trip destinations ! There are all the incredible light displays , like Christmas Lights Across Canada at Parliament Hill. Plus there’s skating, concerts, a huge New Year’s Eve party, and of course, Christmas markets!

The best is the Ottawa Christmas Market at Lansdowne Park . The Market takes over the outdoor plaza at the park. It all starts with a magical tree lighting in front of the Aberdeen Pavilion. And for fifteen fun-filled days, including three 3-day weekends and a 6-day final stretch ending on December 22, the market is the place to be! In true European style, the Ottawa Christmas Market is decked out in thousands of twinkling lights, festive displays, and classic wooden huts.

The Ottawa Christmas Market is a candy cane licking good time! There are over 35 local vendors selling a ton of great finds like homemade soaps and cookies and toques. You can also enjoy warming up at Santa’s Shack with their famous mulled wine. If you need more fuel for your Christmas market exploring there’s the Blitzen Bar serving up a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Or pop over to the Candy Cane Chalet for some mouth-watering grilled sausages that will make you feel like you’re at a German Christmas Market. And if all that is not enough, the market also hosts workshops, a Silent Night Disco, skate with Santa, and live music.

Kingston Holiday Market

Another great place to head on a road trip this winter is Kingston! Along with all the incredible things to do in Kingston you’ll find a bounty of festive activities and Christmas Markets. One of the favourites is the Kingston Holiday Market. This pop-up market is now online and features over 90 local artisans. The online market has a huge range of great gift ideas, everything from holiday-themed toys to handmade items. It’s the perfect way to support local and get unique items all from the comfort of your home.

If you’re looking for those in-person holiday vibes then head to the Kingston Holiday Market. The market takes over downtown, near City Hall, and is the perfect family-friendly event. Along with live music by local artists and a photography exhibit, there are over a dozen vendors. You’ll find something for everyone on your holiday list, like hand-made goods, local maple syrup, and more. It’s also a great time to pick up your Christmas tree or wreath. One of my favourite small-town Christmas Markets in Ontario is becoming all the rage! And for good reason! The Niemi Farm in Mount Albert is a little gem of an Ontario farm. They are known throughout the area for their awesome baked goods. And dare I say, they have some of the best donuts in Ontario , a fresh and cinnamon sugar covered mouth-watering delight! You’ll find a wealth of goodies at the market, most of which are hype local. There’s everything from ornaments to incredible wreaths, honey and maple syrup, and so much more! But the best part, in my humble sweet tooth opinion, is the fabulous treats! Be sure to grab a cup of their hot apple cider and some of their Scandinavian treats like pulla!

Christmas in Toronto: Top Holiday Events

Don your Santa caps and fire up the reindeer — it’s time for Christmas in Toronto.

Cirque du Soleil logo

When a cold wind sweeps over Lake Ontario and twinkling lights sing their shining chorus, it can only mean one thing: Christmas is here at last.

The city dresses up in reds and greens for a season of collective glee. Wrapped in tinsel and bathed in a cheerful glow, it spreads its joys across its streets through the long, cozy winter. Sure, there are things to do in Toronto , whatever the weather. But the show of holiday spirit here is worth a celebration in itself.

As Santa gears up for his big night, dive deep into the city’s wintry wares. Here’s how to spend Christmas in Toronto.

Outdoor Celebrations

Brave the chill for frosty fun in Toronto’s great outdoors.

1. The Distillery Winter Village

Toronto's historic Distillery District, clad in cobblestones and crumbling bricks, is a fitting canvas for this annual Christmas revelry. All dressed up in festive ornaments, The Distillery Winter Village recalls old holidays. After dark, a canopy of twinkling lights rains electric sunshine down on the streets, setting the tone for a night of pure, festive joy.

Meander along the pedestrian-only roads, sampling comfort food and taking in the glittering tree towers high above the ancient structures. Since you're in the Distillery District, it's only fitting to pop into a pub for some liquid cheer in the form of festive cocktails.

Local vendors set up shop in cozy cabins ripe for browsing. You can hunt for stocking stuffers or nestle onto a heated patio for some prime people-watching.

2. Fair in the Square

A local gathering space transforms into a winter wonderland as Christmas approaches. Toronto’s inhabitants flock to the Fair in the Square for a winter evening amidst shining lights and merry chatter.

The artisan market offers handcrafted gifts, and the on-site food trucks serve soul-warming fare. Stop by the Polar Point Bar for a toasty hot chocolate topped with whipped cream and melty marshmallows. Local entertainers put on dazzling shows similar to our own performances, all with a dash of holiday flair.

And a trip to the Fair in the Square wouldn't be complete without a spin around the skating rink. Tie up your skates and hit the rink to show off some ice-skating tricks of your own. A wintry skate is a splendid Toronto New Year’s event to enjoy.

3. Cavalcade of Lights at Nathan Phillips Square

There are countless things to do in Toronto, and many of them take place in Nathan Phillips Square. This activity hotspot kicks off the holiday season each year with a dash of extravagance.

The Cavalcade of Lights puts on a memorable opening night performance, complete with live music and ceremonious tree lighting. But you can enjoy this sparkling display all season long.

Don your skates for a trip across the rink, gliding and twirling beneath tunnels molded from a sea of shimmering lights. Don’t leave the park without snapping a photo or two. Warm lights and holiday glee make a picturesque combination.

4. WinterFest at Canada’s Wonderland

What better place to spend the Christmas season than a certified wonderland? Revel in the festivities at this amusement park at its holiday best. WinterFest at Canada’s Wonderland brings the North Pole to Toronto. Strands of light drape the park in a golden glow as crowds dash between attractions.

Unleash the acrobat within as you brave thrilling rides with perilous drops. Or, take a quaint spin around the antique carousel. Festive foods make satisfying between-ride treats and themed zones bring your favorite Christmas characters to life before your eyes.

Cultural Experiences

Cozy up to Toronto’s dynamic culture this Christmas.

5. The Nutcracker Presented by the National Ballet of Canada

As masterful storytellers ourselves, we know how a great tale can move you. Immerse yourself in the holiday spirit by reliving this classic Christmas fable. At the hands of the National Ballet of Canada, this performance of The Nutcracker will live in your holiday memories forever.

The curtain rises on a world where life-sized sweets, ethereal fairies, giant mice, and toys all come to life. Intricate costumes and vibrant sets enfold audiences into an enchanted world. Told by movement and Tchaikovsky’s emotional score, it's a performance you won't want to miss.

Dare to Be Dazzled!

Adventure awaits in Toronto with high-energy Cirque du Soleil shows. Dive into a world of acrobatics and wonder.

6. A Christmas Carol at the Young Centre for the Performing Arts

An endless pool of local talent means holiday performances shine on Toronto's stages. The Young Centre for the Performing Arts is part of the city's stunning theater scene, and during the Holidays, one show, in particular, is a must-see.

A Christmas Carol is a classic holiday tale that comes to life on stage. Take your seats in this hallowed theater to witness Ebenezer Scrooge’s journey from town Grinch to champion of goodwill. Experience laughter, awe, and even a few tears as you watch this moving Christmas performance.

7. Toronto Symphony Orchestra Holiday Concerts

Music sets the mood for Christmas revelers. A hearty dose of jingling bells and hooting trumpets is enough to get anyone into the festive spirit. And with the pros at the Toronto Symphony Orchestra in charge, this year’s rendition of the classics will surely delight.

The TSO Holiday Pops show is an annual favorite. Smooth vocals and a jazzy score serve up holiday tunes with a twist. Tap your feet and sing along as Toronto’s talented ensemble spreads Christmas joy through the beauty of music.

8. The Christmas Story at the Church of the Holy Trinity

Get back to where it all began with this hallmark piece of Toronto’s holiday performance scene. The Christmas Story recounts the classic Nativity tale in a splendidly acted pageant. Dozens of members rally together at the Church of the Holy Trinity to bring this touching story to life.

Accompanied by a moving organ arrangement, this show will have you contemplating your connection to this emotional season.

9. Handel’s Messiah at Roy Thomson Hall

Once again, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra puts on a performance worthy of any precious December evening. This time, it's teaming up with the harmonious voices of the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir to bring you a spectacular rendition of Handel’s Messiah .

Rejoice as the oratorio rings out across the resplendent auditorium, gleaming with holiday decor and bright stage lights. Make it a night to remember. Get dolled up in your symphony best to make your entrance at Roy Thomson Hall. While you’re at it, why not enjoy a decadent meal at one of Toronto’s best restaurants?

Shopping and Markets

Go on a holiday shopping spree at Toronto’s finest exchanges.

10. Official Lighting Ceremony at Bloor-Yorkville

The moment millions of tiny, glittering lights electrify the streets of Toronto is one for the holiday memory books. Experience it for yourself at Bloor-Yorkville’s Official Lighting Ceremony. With the neighborhood illuminated, a concert of epic proportions begins, showcasing some of Toronto’s best up-and-coming musicians.

Away from the stage, tree-lined roads drip with lights where local shops sell giftable wares. Wander the community, stopping to take in handcrafted items and thoughtful cultural attractions, all bathed in a cheerful, festive glow. In this home for music and local togetherness, the spirit of Christmas rings clear and true.

11. The One-of-a-Kind Winter Show

Handmade gifts make a special kind of impact on Christmas morning. Shop for the pieces that matter at the One-of-a-Kind Winter Show, a unique marketplace dedicated exclusively to artisanal objects, all molded, threaded, and drawn by an eclectic group of crafty Canadians.

Makers from across the country journey to Toronto to showcase their finest pieces. Handcrafted jewelry, apparel, and artwork highlight the care and detail of making an item that lasts. Peruse the booths to find gifts that will wow their recipients as the wrapping is torn away.

12. Union Winter at Union Station

The bustling halls of Toronto’s Union Station grow even louder at Christmastime, with the sound of shuffling city-goers running merry errands. To make spirits bright, the station presents travelers with Union Winter for a bit of holiday whimsy on an otherwise unassuming commute.

In the TD West Carriageway, standard walking space gives way to over 5,000 sq. ft. of wooden roller skating tracks. Lace-up to race down the tunnel, with retro-style lights leading the way.

With satisfying snacks, tasty drinks, and regular DJ nights, this is city travel with a touch of the unexpected enchantment of the holiday season. It’s wild and wacky, just the way we like it.

13. Evergreen’s Winter Market at the Brick Works

The Evergreen Brick Works beckons Torontonians to its lush green trails all year. City inhabitants can’t resist the charmingly unkempt river grass, wind-swept trees, and lily pad ponds.

In December, the wild space carves a comfy cranny for Evergreen’s Winter Market . Despite frigid winds and frosty lakeside mists that say otherwise, this is where Toronto comes to chill for the season.

A dedicated holiday hangout space, the Winter Market offers live music, arts and crafts, vintage markets, and cookie decorating workshops. You could hunker down here until spring without running out of absorbing activities.

Follow your nose to the food court before popping over to the market for an afternoon of shopping. Decked in string lights and surrounded by nature’s wild ways, this unconventional yet magnetic spot is a great place to spread holiday joy.

14. Holiday Market at St. Lawrence Market

Fresh foods and local ingredients abound at Toronto’s most popular Farmer's Market. St. Lawrence Market shows its festive side for holiday shopping, conveniently presenting city dwellers with the perfect winter day out.

Stop by booths brimming with fruits and vegetables just plucked from the earth and waiting to be used in a delectable Christmas dish. Extended hours mean you’ll have extra time to chat up your favorite merchants as you bag up crunchy carrots and fragrant citrus fruits.

Browse tables stacked with artisan goods to find a uniquely local gift. Or make food a priority, and head to the baker’s booth for a perfectly delicious pie.

Make memories with your whole crew at these family-friendly festivities.

15. Santa Claus Parade

Jolly marchers have taken to Toronto’s streets for over a century to ring in this splendid season. Rosy-cheeked and grinning despite the chill, the procession calls to onlookers from every corner of the city. Together, they shout and cheer to celebrate the festive month sprawling out before them.

Local flair is on full display at this Christmas kickoff. Marching bands play brassy tunes as drumlines keep the crowd in rhythm. Backed up by massive floats, the Santa Claus Parade is a cheerful display of holiday passion, and that’s why we love it.

Bundle up and take to the streets to see it in person, or snuggle up in your home or hotel to enjoy the show in cozy warmth.

16. Holiday Fun at Casa Loma

A wintry day spent at Casa Loma makes a merry tradition for many Toronto families. The Gothic castle turns its festive dial to 10 yearly when its annual Holiday Program opens to the public.

Feast your eyes on the massive tree in the Great Hall to taste Christmas glamour. An in-house Santa’s workshop offers crafty fun for the whole family, while resident illusionists put on a show that even we’d be proud of.

Nutcracker mascots dance, and carolers sing as the scent of sugary treats wafts through the ornate halls. Outside after dark, light displays wind a luminous path through the gardens. Bundle up and walk the trail, or enjoy the cozy scenes still visible through the castle windows.

17. The Santa Express and Holiday Train Rides at the York-Durham Heritage Railway

Railway buffs get their Christmas kicks on these historic tracks. Trains chug along the York-Durham Heritage Railway to preserve a steam-powered piece of Toronto’s industrious past. But their modern priority isn’t work — it's play.

Christmas time treks turn the trains into mirthful voyagers, dutifully carrying passengers into a world of frosty holiday fun. Climb aboard for a trip to Santa’s workshop. Train cars decked in festive garb make for immersive fun along the way.

Conductor Elves turn the ride into a full-blown musical as passengers, big and small, sip hot drinks and snap merry photo ops. The big man himself visits onboard, making this one of the best family activities in Toronto during the winter season. Hop off at the nearby Holiday Hills festival to follow one celebration with another.

Embrace the Festive Spirit With Toronto’s Holiday Highlights

Just-wrapped gifts and crisp snow blankets keep spirits bright with glee all winter. But when the holiday season comes to a close, Toronto dwellers look for a new source of cheer in this beloved city.

That’s where we come in. Our troupe of twisty, tricky acrobats live to spin their stories for breathless audiences. Holidays or not, our shows are a happy parade of joy that marches long after the tinsel has been packed away for the year.

Give a cheer; the circus is here! Set your sights on our shows in Toronto today.
