Songthaew: A safe and saving money option for you is to choose a Songthaew (a typical vehicle in Thailand or Laos) to go to Khao Yai area. Its operating time from 8am to 4:30pm for 40 baht/ticket. Khao yai national park.
Address: Hin Tung, Mueang Nakhon Nayok District, Nakhon Nayok, Thailand Opening hours: 8am-20pm daily Price: 400 baht/adult, 200 baht/child (check receipt)
This is Thailand’s first national park with a large area spanning 4 provinces. You should take the time to explore the rich and diverse flora and fauna here during your 2 days 1 night in Khao Yai.
The temperature here is quite low because it is surrounded by mountains and forests. On the way you can encounter monkeys, wild elephants, elk… It it is best to keep personal items away if you do not want to be stolen by monkeys.
Along the way you can see signs of The Boonie Bears, which makes visitors both excited and nervous. Haew Narok Waterfall is famous as a spot that appeared in a Leonardo DiCaprio’s movie. You can hear the songs of more than 300 species of birds here, and many birdwatchers come to enjoy.
You should contact the manager directly or book a day tour. Experienced guides will explain a lot about ecology and animals to you. They also know where the animals will appear, well worth a try.
PB Valley Khao Yai Winery

Only a 30-minute drive from Khao Yai National Park, you can go to Khao Yai’s largest wine production area and enjoy delicious, quality glasses of wine, learn about the winemaking process when participating in Wine Tour (fare 300 baht/person). Here, you will have comfortable check-in photos at the vineyard as a souvenir for your memorial Khao Yai travel itinerary.
Lunch at Midwinter Green restaurant
Address: 10 88/88 Soi Ban Sai Thong Mu 24 Soi 2, Nong Nam Daeng, Pak Chong District, Nakhon Ratchasima 30130 Opening hours: 10am-22pm every day, only Friday and Saturday close at 11pm
The restaurant is located on the main road of Pak Chong to Khao Yai. Styled like a medieval castle, it serves a variety of appetizers, pastas, pizzas, sandwiches and meat dishes in classic Western style or innovative Thai dishes. Outside the restaurant there is a small supermarket, inside there is a stage for weekend performances. Lunch at Midwinter Green is probably the most luxurious experience in our 2 days in Khao Yai trip.
Back to Bangkok from Khao Yai
How to go from Khao Yai to Bangkok? You should ask the hotel reception to call a pickup truck to take you to Pak Chong town. The cost is about 200 Baht/trip.
Returning to Bangkok, you can catch a bus for 133 Baht/person (including cookies and water) or rent a minivan for about 160 Baht/person (if you have a lot of belongings, you will have to pay more for your luggage). Whether taking a bus or a minivan, you should remember to tell the driver to let you off at BTS Mochit. We end our Khao Yai travel for 2 days 1 night here to return to Vietnam here.
Some tips before you go
- One of the most important things is that you should print the address + phone number of the hotel, restaurant and also the places you want to go (this especially needs to be printed in Thai to give the taxi, motorbike taxi drivers… to find way easily, especially in the deserted mountains like Khao Yai where the drivers don’t understand what we saying), and in case the phone runs out of battery or breaks down suddenly.
- The bus ride from Bangkok to Khao Yai is only about 3 hours. Remember to tell the driver in advance that you will get down to Pak Chong (the car running for about 2 hours, please tell them to make sure).
- The return bus from Khao Yai to Bangkok runs faster than the departure trip. Only about 2 and a half hours, remember not to oversleep!
- At the airport and bus stations in Bangkok, there are taxi meter platforms, ask the security to find that area to avoid “losing money unfairly”.
Above is my suggestion about Khao Yai travel itinerary 2 days 1 night. After finishing the trip, you can stay in Bangkok to shop or visit famous tourist attractions here. Wishing you a happy, safe and meaningful trip.

2 Day Khao Yai Itinerary – The Ultimate Tranquil Getaway Just Three Hours From Bangkok
This is my 2 day Khao Yai itinerary! This rural district in Thailand home to many tourist attractions like animal farms, themed attractions, vineyards, sunflower fields, etc. In recent years, it has become a popular destination for tourists looking for a tranquil getaway within easy reach of Bangkok .
My family booked a private customised tour with Klook , and arranged the itinerary with the driver over email before the trip. On the whole it was a convenient and fuss-free experience.
I do not recommend self-driving in Khao Yai because the rural roads are not very well developed. It is especially dangerous at night because many places do not have street lamps.

I also had fun feeding the alpacas and sheep. The adorable animals rushed to the fence immediately whenever they saw visitors with food.

There were plenty of vendors selling sumptuous street food. These included barbecued seafood, waffles, skewered meats, mango sticky rice, pork trotter rice, and more. I was especially impressed by the huge prawns!

After that, the hotel buggy transported us directly to our rooms. This was a nice touch because our legs were really sore after a whole day of exploring Khao Yai.

Strawberry Picking In Khao Yai
Unfortunately, when we visited it wasn’t the strawberry season yet so there weren’t any strawberries to pick. Luckily, the scenery was beautiful, so we took plenty of pretty pictures here.

The Bloom by TV Pool
Other than the flowers, the park offers plenty of photo opportunities such as a floral archway, a large ferris wheel, a floral carriage, giant paper windmills, and more.
We spent less than one hour here, because there wasn’t much to do other than taking pictures. In addition, it was really hot because there are very few sheltered areas in the park.

Walking around the premise, it felt like I was inside a real Italian village. The designers have definitely done a good job of recreating the rural Italian vibe here.

The restaurant menu offers a wide variety of Western and Thai dishes, including pizza, pasta, BBQ pork ribs, steaks, Tom Yum Soup, Fried Shrimp Cake, Green Curry, etc.
The noodles were cooked nicely al dente, and were infused with the rich flavours of tomatoes and Thai herbs. The seafood were very fresh, and I especially enjoyed eating the succulent prawns.

Manee Sorn Sunflower Field
I enjoyed coming here very much! The sunflower fields were gorgeous and it was my first time seeing something like this.
The surrounding scenery was beautiful too. We were surrounded by sprawling green fields and lush palm trees against a backdrop of mountains in the distance. This was the perfect end to our Khao Yai adventure!

Travel to Bangkok
However, he was unclear of the directions sometimes and I actually had to serve as his navigator a few times using Google Maps. This was a little unnerving especially when we were travelling along the rural roads at night.
Also, we had requested to visit Farm Chokchai and PB Valley Khaoyai Winery, but were informed by him that these attractions were “fully booked”. We later found out that while these places did offer tours, it was actually possible to explore the premises for free.
Instead, he brought us to other less popular attractions like The Bloom By TV Pool and Strawberry Picking.
Therefore, my advice is to be to be as clear as possible on the attractions you want to visit when planning your itinerary with the driver over email before the trip. If you wish to visit Farm Chokchai and PB Valley Khaoyai Winery , make sure you mention this explicitly. Also, while it is possible to visit these two places for free, I’m not sure if the driver will prefer you to prebook the tours.

Tour itinerary
Here follows the itinerary of our 2.5-day tour in Khao Yai national park . Note: Often enough, our itineraries get turned upside down. The half day itinerary is fixed, but the two full days in the park are more flexible. It is impossible to plan in nature; the wildlife does not follow timetables, therefore the following itinerary is just a rough example.
Day 1 (15:30 to ±18:30 or later)
Usually, we start the tour with a visit to a clear, cold water spring where you can have a refreshing swim. Alternatively, if swimming is not of interest to you, it is possible to visit a temple with a beautiful Buddha statue on a mountain with a stunning view over the area.
Depending on what time the bats are expected to fly out, there might be time to explore a cave to look for creatures that inhabit the cave. Followed by the final and main activity of this afternoon trip, watching the daily feeding migration of the Wrinkle-lipped Bats ( Chaerephon plicatus ) that fly out of a cave in a seemingly infinite stream of bats. Millions of them!
The bats do not fly out at the same time all year round. It is therefore not easy to say what time this tour ends.
On the way back you will have dinner, and afterwards you will be returned to your hotel.
Note: this entire half day itinerary takes place outside the national park boundaries. Due to higher costs involved, this half-day itinerary can not be replaced with a visit to the actual national park for this same rate.
Day 2 (08:00 to ±20:30)
Today, will be your first day of the trip inside the national park. First we spend some time driving into the park whilst searching for wildlife along the road and stop at a viewpoint area on the way in. Often this is a good place to see hornbills.
After the safari drive, we head to the starting point of our first walk in the forest. Typically the walks are not too physically demanding, and we take it slow because we are trying to spot animals along the way.
When we return from the jungle walk, it is lunch time. We will eat at one of the park restaurants before we drive to one of the beautiful waterfalls of the park. Both when driving there, as well as around the waterfall there is always a chance to see more bird- or wildlife.
In the late afternoon, we will drive past open grass plains, and mineral licks, and more forest in hope to see some elephants but also other animals.
We will have dinner before we go for a night drive. We look for reflecting eyes as we search the forest and fields with a spotlight to look for nocturnal animals. You will be returned to your hotel after the tour.
Day 3 (08:00 to ±18:00)
On the last day, we start with a walk in a different part of the park than yesterday. Hoping to see other species. And after lunch we take a look at the highest viewpoint of the park.
And finally, we end the last day with another late afternoon safari drive to see if we still have any luck left.
You will be returned to your hotel, or to your taxi to continue to your next destination.

Amazing trip with expert guide Jum. Open trucks gave a nice safari feeling. The trips had a nice variety of experiences. Full days are bit long. I would definitely come again but than for several trips of five six hours, not 12. The tour guide adjusted the trip to our specific needs. It always felt safe. Good food is provided with nice stops. January is Scandinavian summer. Need some warm clothes for windy days. Choose a hotel not too far from the park entrance. Otherwise it is lots of extra driving time. We swam in a beautiful river close to the source. Saw bats coming out of a mountain in swarms, watched nightlife animals, and had some relaxed hikes filled with impressions. It was reasonably priced.

Dear Tontan and our guide Tata, Thank you so much for our wonderful experience on our 2,5 day tour in Khao Yai National Park. Both the adults and the children loved the hikes and wildlife spotting together with our guide Tata. We were lucky to see lots of different wildlife and got plenty of explanations about the Thai jungle and the Thai way of life. We certainly can say this was one of best experiences of our Thailand trip! Joost and Lieke Mees, Siem and Veerle
Dear Joost, Lieke, Mees, Siem and Veerle, Thank you for your contribution to our guestbook. Much appreciated! We will pass your comments to our guide Tata. Glad to hear he did a good job (as always! ;) ). Hopefully we will meet you another time. Thanks for joining and greetings from the Thai jungle!

Hoi Jan, Miriam, Jochem & Ruben! Allemaal weer heelhuids thuis aangekomen? Ton & Tan

Hey Tony & Tan, Good afternoon. We've finally a moment to relax now, and I just wanted to say thank you for an awesome trip. Guide Tata was quite the wizard in spotting all the animals and whipping up some Thai dishes that made me cry (in a good way). Found a gibbon on the first day out, among a number of other cool species. The food, the views, the cabin, the park and all the animals were excellent. Really an unforgettable trip. Thanks again! We're definitley gonna try the other two parks next time we come back :) ~Chase
Hi Chase, Great to hear you have enjoyed your trip! We will pass your comments to our guide Tata. You're always welcome to come back ;) Thanks for booking with us! Tan & Tony

Groetjes, Tan & Ton

I have experienced safari's in Africa and India before but they were uncomparable to the safari we made in Khao Yai. Ton and Tan suprised us in a positive way! We had a great safari which was definitely a big highlight of our holiday. Ton and Tan are both super enthousiastic and are eager to show you all the wildlife you want to see. Game drives are combined with jungle walks and they have great knowledge about the wildlife and the area. We saw a lot of elephants, bamboo vipers, 2 species of gibbon, dholes!! and a lot more. It was an amazing experience, thanks for the great time! We will keep a close eye on the development of your tours to other national parks/ area's in Thailand. So in the future we may contact you again to track down a tiger :) Kind regards, Mark & Marjon
Hi Mark & Marjon, Thank you for your addition to our guestbook. We're glad to hear that we surprised you in a positive way. We know for many people it comes as a surprise that Thailand has such a great diversity of wildlife to offer. Few people know about that. However, luck is an important factor to actually encounter all the amazing animals. You've been quite lucky seeing quite a few endangered species like the big herds of elephants, the Asian Wild Dogs on a kill, both gibbon species, the Siamese Crocodile. We enjoyed hearing about your previous wildlife experiences and it was great fun to guide such enthusiastic people around in the jungle. We're looking forward to meet you again to go track the tiger and bears, ;). All the best, Tan & Ton

We are 2 families from Israel that had 3 wonderful days with Tan & Tony at Khao Yai. From the first moments of our 3 days tour, we knew that Tan & Tony are not the typical tour operators & that we are in good hands. We came to the park's entrance few minutes before the due time & were under the impression that we have sufficient time to wander around, as punctuality has its own meaning in Thailand. However, it was only few seconds afterward, when Tony got out of their Pick-Up, armed with his Camera & with a smile. Needless to say, that from the first moment until the very last second of our trip, Tony was fully dedicated to present us the wonders of Khao Yai, its fauna, flora & wildlife, while Tan was caring for the tours logistics & from time to time reminded us all that there is a lot more to see & that we should continue to our next stop, while doing that with grace & a charming smile. The Jungle walks were an extra- ordinary experience. But the real fun was to see the kids, which were literally enchanted by Tony & Tan & followed them like shadows in the jungle's trails & were highly enthusiastic from every plant & animal. One of the most fun activities was the Night Safari. Indeed we did not see wild elephants during our visit, but we had the chance to see many other interesting animals, such as Asian Wild Dogs, Crocodile, Porcupines, Hornbills & Gibbons. Many thanks for a wonderful experience.
Hi Dror! Thanks a lot for taking your time to write this wonderful message in our guestbook! We would like to thank you just as much for the wonderful time we had. It was great fun to explore Khao Yai with you. And we totally agree that the most fun was seeing the kids enjoying it so much. We felt sad when we had to say goodbye at the end of the 3 days. Luck was on your side with all the great sightings. Even a group of Otters, and Asian Wild Dogs! Both a lot rarer to see than wild elephants, which we luckily did not see, because that gives you a good reason to come back ;). Warm greetings from Thailand to y'all in Israel!

Thai National Parks
Khao sok national park, private tour | 2-days/1-night private tour in cheow lan lake.
For the August dates, the rooms are rapidly getting fully booked at the average and high end raft houses. You are recommended to book earliest possible. Guide availability may also be an issue in time.
Situated between Khao Sok National Park and Khlong Saeng Wildlife Sanctuary, Cheow Lan Lake has one of the most beautiful scenic views in Thailand.
The lake deserves more than one night of stay, but if you only can stay one night, you will still be able to enjoy a few activities with this tour. If you truly want to enjoy more of the lake, then a 3D/2N tour is recommended.
With the 2-days/1-night tour in Cheow Lan Lake you will be able to see scenic rock formations, hike to a viewpoint, visit a cave, hike in the jungle, kayak, swim and drive around for wildlife watching. The tour includes a stay in a raft house of your choice, a private guide and a private boat with driver. No others will share the guide or the boat with you during the tour.
Out tours must be booked with "no matter the weather" in mind. We don't find the lake tours suitable for kids under 7 years old, other companies may have a different opinion about age limits.
Raft house options
500 rai (deluxe).
500 Rai is one of the two top raft houses in the lake, with 15 houses/cabins of various sizes. The raft house is located at the far end of the lake, between Phupha Waree and Krai Son raft houses, with one of the best views in the lake.

- Family rooms; For 3+ pax
The price for rooms varies depending on week-day, week-end day or holidays.

Phupha Waree Raft House
Phupha Waree is set back in a private alcove just inside Klong Pey, compared to most basic/average raft houses in the lake it is considered a bit better option. The rooms are equipped with 2 joined queen size beds, a private bathroom, a/c, balcony and can accommodate 2-4 people. While the smaller rooms will be booked for up to 3 people, the larger rooms will be booked for 4 people.
For the dates concerning high season months, week-ends (Fri-Sat nights) and public holidays, rooms at Phupha Waree should be booked well in advance.

The quality is somewhere between the bamboo and high end options. The rooms can accommodate 2-4 people with king size beds, equipped with fans and has rooms with private bathroom.

Krai Son Raft House (bamboo option, basic stay)
Krai Son is perched at the entrance to Klong Yee at the remote end of the lake. It is equipped with traditional style bamboo bungalows (2 pax, double beds), no fan, with shared bathroom facilities on land next to the raft house. It is the only raft house on the lake with a view of sunrise and sunset. Local attractions include a viewpoint hike which overlooks the entire lake, and it is close by to the Khlong Saeng wildlife sanctuary not too far from Phupha Waree.

The following itinerary is just an example. Depending on the location of your raft house, weather conditions, your suggestions or eventual shorter/longer time you may decide to spend at attractions may change the planning. Example; you may decide to do more kayaking, skip some activities for the other, or simply just decide to relax and spend some time with friend(s)/family at the raft house.
- 10 am pickup from Cheow Lan Lake Pier to board your long-tail boat
- Scenic tour of limestone karst formations on the way to your rafthouse
- Check in to the raft house. Enjoy a traditional Thai Lunch prepared with rich southern Thai curries, delicious local vegetables.

- Rise before breakfast for the morning mist safari, the best time to see gibbons, macaques, and dusky leaf monkeys
- Return to raft house for breakfast
- Explore the surrounding area by kayak
- Depending on the raft house and it's location, check-out from the raft house is around 9:30 am, tour ends around 10:30 to 11 am
Where & when?
The tour starts at Cheow Lan Lake Pier (Rajjaprabha Dam), 65 km from park headquarters. We can arrange transfers from/to Phuket, Khao Lak, Krabi, Ao Nang, Surat Thani and Khao Sok village on request.
The nearest airports are Surat Thani (~1h), Krabi (~2h) and Phuket Airport (~2.5h), you are recommended to arrive to the area a day before the tour start. This tour is not recommended to start the same day when arriving from the islands or to the airport far away.
This tour is operated all year round.
When to book?
High seasons months in the lake are November to April and July/August. Bookings for these months should be done far in advance, earliest possible. Even if some raft houses may still have rooms available days/weeks before, guide availability is more of a concern. The guides may get fully booked months in advance for the busiest times of the year. During the low season months there is less risk of unavailability.
Panvaree The Greenery superior rooms should be booked at least 6-12 months in advance for the busier months of the year, even the family rooms may get room far in advance. It is one of the most popular raft houses in the lake.
Laguna Cheow Lan should be booked at least 5-6 months in advance, they are constantly fully booked at least 3-4 months ahead.
Phupha Waree can be booked a couple of months ahead, but during the high seasons they may get fully booked most dates 1-3 months ahead. There is greater risk for them to get fully booked during the week-ends.
For the dates concerning high season months from November to mid April, week-ends (Fri-Sat nights) and public holidays, the rooms at Phupha Waree should be booked well in advance. There can be rooms available for the week-days in short notice, but then again, guides may get fully booked.
Sai Chon should also be booked earliest possible for any week-end/holiday concerned dates.
Krai Son tends to have availability for the most year even if booked days/weeks in advance but can be fully booked months in advance for long week-end holidays.

Het is een prachrige omgeving. Schitterend!

We had a truly magical time in Khao Sok (Chow Lan Lake), which was definitely the highlight of our 2 weeks in Thailand. Our guide, Ruam was excellent. We weren’t sure what to expect but Ruam showed us SO MUCH wildlife, from small creatures including chameleons to bigger including wild elephants.
The food was really delicious and although we booked late and only the basic accommodation was available it was totally fine, we slept v well after all the wildlife spotting and canoeing.
We have recommended to a few people already and one day hope to return and maybe do a longer trip, hopefully we will get Ruam again but all the guides seemed good!

We loved our tour of Khao Sok NP, it was one of the top highlights of our honeymoon trip to Thailand. Our guide, Cheun, made every effort to ensure we enjoyed our trip and make it extra special for our honeymoon. She was very knowledgeable about the area, it's plants and animals. Booking everything through the NP service made the whole trip really easy and smooth. We also highly recommend the Panvaree Greenery for lodging on the lake!

We loved the place
Booking and organization was perfect (thanks Rushen for that!).
The guide was a bit lazy from our point of view. On the first day we arrived early with the taxi from Aonang, 9:30, but the guide was doing breakfast and not yet available… the we expected to start at 10 as planned, but apparently the boat was late of half a hour and we started at 11. We then skipped the visit to the cave and to the scenic place and postponed them to tue day after. Reason for that was to arrive on time for lunch at the floating resort, but in reality we arrived early and had to wait in the resort. The day after we started later than other groups and finished earlier, then after breakfast we recovered the activities skipped on the day before and were back at the dam at 10:30.
It was a pity not to do something else, we would have liked to stay at least up to the early afternoon in day 2 and do some more activities
Guide didn’t help to make our visit more enjoyable

We had a wonderful experience exploring Khao Sok National Park with our tour guide Junn. She was very knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and kind. It was so interesting to hear her stories about her home when Cheow Lan wasn't a lake yet. She went above and beyond to make this trip memorable for us, especially when we saw the wild elephants. It was one of the highlights of my family while traveling around Thailand. I would highly recommend doing a tour with Junn, she was the best guide we could wish for! :)

We took a two-day private tour with Junn at the beginning of December, and we very much enjoyed the tour with her company. She was so attentive to our interests and was really trying to do her best to accommodate all our random wishes :) We loved that she has remained so authentic despite us being quite different.
We also liked our schedule of the tour, including many sights of the beautiful rocky coasts, a cave visit, enough kayaking, a hike through the water stream and a morning safari.
Thanks to the good eye of our boat driver, Jon, we had a chance to see the elephant family during the safari.
At the end of the tour, Junn took us extra to a few viewpoints and also arranged us a quick private transfer to Phuket, which really helped us.
All in all, despite the long trip from the coast, we would definitely go for this tour again!
Some downsides to consider:
- Note that arranging a reasonable transfer to the park on your own can be hard: Despite it being only around a 2-hour drive, taking a shared van from Ao Nang took us over 6 hours and unplanned dropped us off around 25 km from our accommodation, where we had to take another taxi. The journey there costed us one full afternoon of vacation.
- We were lucky to get enough time for kayaking, thanks to Junn's advice, but we found there were not enough still-functional kayaks in the floating village for everyone interested. I am hoping someone will fix that soon.
- People working at the floating village were not exactly keen on helping. As someone informed us, it could be because they are not compensated adequately for the workload they get. I hope that this will also improve soon.

We had a fantastic time at Khao Sok National Park.
Our guide, Ann was great, spoke perfect English and he made the tour really a personalized experience for us. We were super lucky and got to see a baby elephant with its mum, a bear, monkeys, gibbons, otters and many other animals in the wild. Our meals had huuuge portions and it was no issue for them to provide vegan options as well.
Absolutely would recommend the private tour, if you have the opportunity to go to Khao Sok National Park.

Overall, Khao sok was beautiful. I had a mostly enjoyable time during the 2 day 1 night stay. The weather was beautiful, it was so peaceful and the food was good.
I know it is no fault of the guides but unfortunately we saw very little wildlife during our tour. Our guides tried so hard to track wild elephants but we didn’t get lucky this time around!
My one disappointing experience was that our guide was not very, well, guidely. He didn’t speak much nor did he share much about the wildlife, the park, or anything really unless we asked about it. Not that he wasn’t nice or anything but I wish he were a bit more friendly / shared more
All in all would still recommend a trip to Khao Sok to see its beauty, and hopefully you’ll get luckier than us with seeing wildlife :)

Thanks for your feedback.
A quick check under "Tour" section of our main navigation, you will see we have a few tours in Khao Yai and Khao Sok National Parks with "wildlife tour" in the title. Those tours are proper wildlife tours, conducted with guides knowing the wildlife.
We don't claim our Cheow Lan Lake tours to be wildlife oriented. Wildlife search is only one of the activities among the others, our tour is no more or less wildlife oriented than what other companies offer. This simply because there are not enough guides in the lake with good knowledge in wildlife.
Chances to see wild elephants during a 2D/1N tour is perhaps around 15-20%, and this increases perhaps to around 40% for a 3D/2N trip. One needs to be lucky to see an elephant, there is no guarantee our guests will see one even when "wildlife oriented tour" options is selected.
Kind regards,

Amazing experience.
A bit expensive but it definitely is worth it.
The private tour, tour guide(kiem), everything was smooth.
Kiem was extra helpful.
The stay was okay. As there is no electricity during the day time.
But other than that it’s 5/5.
Must recommend to everything visiting khao sok.
