This system of philosophical and ethical teachings was introduced to South Korea in the 4 th century through Chinese scholars and was quickly embraced by the wider population until it officially became the state ideology in the early 1900s.

Confucianism emphasizes respect for aging, elders and ancestors, an intrinsic hierarchy that runs through work and social life, and upholds traditional family roles so you’ll often see families living together in one house.

History and government

South Korea’s had an often turbulent history dating back to around 8000 BC when it was known as just Korea, but the country’s most impactful conflict began in the 1500s with the attempted Japanese invasion. Korea went on to become a Japanese colony in 1910 following its annexation of the Korean Empire, which ended in 1945 at the conclusion of World War II.

The country was then divided into two parts, the northern part which was protected by the Soviet Union and the southern part which was protected largely by the United States. Both the northern and southern parts of Korea officially became North and South Korea in 1948 when the two regions failed to agree on forming one, united government.

In 1950, North Korea set in motion the Korean War which was intended to unify the two countries under communism. But after much destruction to infrastructure and loss of human life, a cease-fire was called in 1953 with both countries signing the 1953 Korean Armistice Agreement. The two countries have since agreed to work towards a final settlement (The Peace Treaty on the Korean Peninsula) to formally and officially end the Korean War.

South Korea now enjoys a fully prosperous economy with a capital economic standing similar to that of countries such as the United States, Japan, and various countries in Western Europe.

This has been the best value, escorted tour I have done. Tour leader, Jay, made sure everyone's needs were satisfied, especially dietary requirements. All meals were included and sampling regional specialities was the highlight for me. No one left hungry ever!! Buying a coffee, snack, icecream at rest stops was optional. Ordering in English by automatic menus is available at these stops. Toilets were all very clean. Long touring days ensured we saw maximum sights of Sth Korea. Our bus was very comfortable and our driver, Mr Park, made sure our journey was safe. The hotels were of a very high standard. Korean born, Jay spoke very good English which made it easy to listen to his many stories of life in South Korea. Had I time, I would have continued with some of the tour group to Je Ju island. The day tour to DMZ tunnel 2 with Hana ITC was an excellent tour. Staying at Amid Hotel made it easy and time efficient to join the 7 day tour. Thankyou Jay and Mr Park I will be certainly recommending you and this tour.

Antonio, the tour guide, was a charming, caring and professional tour guide. He had a hard job because 30 plus people in the group were Spanish speaking and four, including me, were English speaking. As a tour guide myself, I know it is very hard to keep both groups happy. The smaller group had to stand and listen to long Spanish and it was boring and the English was shorter, so we felt that we missed out. It was also hard to make friends in the group as we did not understand each other. The tour offered value for money and covered as many sites as possible with 4 star accommodation. The days were long and too much time was spent on the bus, partly due to the Korean traffic. My family group of 3 enjoyed the tour, but feel it would have been perfect if all in English and time on the bus shorter. It was Antonio's approach that helped make this a fun tour.

The organisation by the local tour company was good and the local guide excellent. The distances between sites required, out of necessity, some significantly long periods on the road. We appreciate there must be a balance between travel and places visited but perhaps an "extra day' might be something to consider (e.g. perhaps stopping overnight in Haeundae Beach) On balance the locations visited were all of interest although slight individual modifications might be helpful but that comes down to personal preferences (e.g. the winter Olympic site was just to the ski jump slope whereas we might have seen the locations of other of the winter sports).The hotels adopted for the overnight stops were generally well appointed although the Gyeongju hotel was acceptable but not as good as the remaining three So overall we were satisfied, and the tour was to our expectations

Truly an amazing tour that brings you to the most beautiful places in South Korea! Personally the temple stay was my favourite, such a special experience. The people in my group became my friends and I can't wait to travel with them again!

Michael, our tour guide, was patient, friendly, and flexible with different age travelers and physical abilities by adjusting the activities for them. The Best of Korea tour's itinerary was very full. I think many of us enjoyed the itinerary and the experiences we had. I, particularly, enjoyed the various transportation methods which added to the experience. The War Memorial Hall of Korea museum is a big museum and had very important history. Most of us needed more time. I think this activity could of come at the beginning of the tour for us to have better knowledge of Korean history. On the tour's last day, after the museum, most of us thought there was going to be a group dinner. The tours I have been in the past had end of the tour dinner to say good bye and show our appreciation to the tour guide. It's nice to have a closure after spending a week together. We were disappointed that the day just ended after returning to the hotel. After the DMZ visit, we had a very nice lunch at a well known restaurant. This time could of have been a good opportunity to say good bye but I think due to limited time, food came out late, we didn't linger.

Any foreigners who are living in Korea or traveling to/in Korea.

Yes, private tours can be organized and run while keeping Korea Travel Mate's policies and strategies in mind. As a result, if you have a community with whom you would like to have your own customized tour, you are only a phone call, email, or message away from getting it started.

Yes, on most of the trips private rooms can be provided for the extra cost that is mentioned in the signup form of the specific trip.

We always do our best to provide food that suits the specific needs of each individual, however, please keep in mind that Halal meat is not provided on our travels since we travel to rural locations where Halal meat is not available, also it is not in our tour budget. Our KTO Office in Kuala Lumpur operates to promote South Korea as a tourist destination to Malaysian and Bruneian travelers along with providing a diversity of travel information on tourist destinations in South Korea. Concurrently, the office takes charge of promotional activities in both Malaysia and Brunei.

1. Consumer Assistance

Our Korea Plaza which is located at Menara Hap Seng KL offers a wide array of travel information and free consultation service for Malaysians who are interested to travel to South Korea. All the travel brochures provided are complimentary for visitors including tourist maps, travel guides, and discount coupon booklets. KTO Kuala Lumpur runs the King Sejong Institute in Korea Plaza which offers free Korean Language class for beginner level. Along with that, Korean cooking class, Korean dance class, Free & Easy Travel (FIT) seminars, and special tourism promotional events are regularly hosted at our Korea Plaza venue.

2. Travel Agent Assistance

At the forefront, we work closely and collaborate with local travel agencies, airlines and OTA partners for the introduction and development of new destination promotion and tour itinerary in Korea. We also host workshops, seminars, and familiarization tours to encourage networking between our Korean service providers with our Malaysian and Bruneian local travel agencies. These events have been significant in developing interest in producing updated Korean tour programs, while bridging the gap between South Korea and the targeted markets.

List of Accredited Travel Agencies for KOREAN VISA Application

⚠️ NOTE: As of 3 January 2023, the Korean Embassy’s travel agency accreditation system has been abolished. This means that there is no longer an official list of designated travel agencies and that the Korean Embassy treats all travel agencies the same way. You may still apply via a travel agency but it would need to also book an appointment on your behalf. You may also apply directly on your own by booking a Korean visa appointment .

Here’s the list of TRAVEL AGENCIES officially accredited by the Korean Embassy to accept KOREAN VISA APPLICATIONS, with addresses and phone numbers.

South Korea is one of the most popular destinations for Filipino tourists, so when the country announced that they’re opening quarantine-free travel for international travelers early this year, revenge travelers rejoiced! Soon after this announcement, the South Korean Embassy in the Philippines resumed processing tourist visas.

As of writing, there are two ways you can apply for a tourist visa.

• By scheduling an individual appointment through the Korean Embassy’s Online Visa Appointment System . More info here.
• By coursing your application though a travel agency accredited by the Korean Embassy .

Please note that walk-ins are no longer accepted at the embassy.

Because of the huge volume of applications, securing an appointment through the website is a bit of a challenge at the moment, so having the option to process it through a travel agency is great. It is also a more ideal option for those who don’t have much free time and those who are located outside Metro Manila. The Embassy has designated 36 travel agencies, but many of them have branches in other parts of the Philippines.

Do I need to schedule an appointment with the Korean Embassy if I’m applying via a travel agency?

NO. The designated travel agency must make the appointment on your and other applicants’ behalf.

Are there additional requirements if I apply via a travel agency?

Yes! If you’re planning on applying via a travel agency, you also need to submit a Letter of Attorney for Visa Application on top of all the standard requirements.

How much is the fee when applying for a Korean Visa via an accredited travel agency?

Usually between P700 and P1500. Different agencies charge different rates.

Note that the actual visa is FREE OF CHARGE. The Korean Embassy doesn’t collect payment. What you’re paying for here is the service fee charged by the travel agency.

Can a travel agency refuse to accept an application?

Yes. Just like on individual applications, the Korean Embassy has implemented a limit or quota to the number of applications that each accredited travel agency may submit. Hence, travel agencies may stop accepting applications if they feel like they have reached that limit or if the backlog piles up.

The Korean Embassy sometimes posts the number of pending applications per agency on the VISA ANNOUNCEMENTS page. This should give you an idea which agency has a lot of applications on their plate.

A travel agency may also refuse your application based on its assessment or on other factors relevant to the documents you submit.

Can I apply via a travel agency that is not accredited by the Korean Embassy?

Yes. As of this writing, other travel agencies may still book an appointment with the Korean Embassy online but they are subject to availability of slots per day.

In addition, Some non-accredited travel agencies may course an application through an accredited travel agency. This is sometimes the scenario in provinces without any accredited agency. A non-accredited local agency may choose to submit it to a partner agency that is designated by the Embassy. But because of the layers, this set up tends to cost more.
