14 Summer-Fun Activities For Kids at Life Time

A collage of photos of kids participating in activities at Life Time, including swimming, playing basketball and exercising.

One of the many obstacles parents have face is filling a kid’s summer schedule with extracurricular and enrichment opportunities. In the summertime, kids deserve some fun — and parents, some downtime.

“One thing we hear all the time from parents who enroll their children in activities at Life Time is how much they appreciate the convenience factor,” says Alicia Kockler, senior vice president of Kids and Aquatics at Life Time. “Because our breadth of offerings is so vast, you can fit in everything you want your children to do in a single place, avoiding extra shuttling around or scheduling hassles.”

Options range from drop-off kid programming to family events, with offerings available for all ages, abilities, and interests — many of which are also included in  Junior Memberships .

“Every family has different wants and needs, and we built our offerings to accommodate that,” says Kockler. “Need a safe place for child care while you work? Want something to do outside of your home as a family? Looking to fit in a workout while your kids also stay active? We can check all those boxes.”

Gather inspiration for planning your family’s summer schedule with these ideas for healthy activities that’ll keep your kids active and engaged all season long.

Kid Time Fun

  • Camp. Weekly half- and full-day camps feature different themes and activities, plus weekly field trips and the opportunity for social electives such as yoga, swimming, basketball, or racquet sports. Swim lessons are also included in full-day summer camp programs. (If you’re curious what summer camp is like, read “ Summer Camp at Life Time: A Sneak Peek .”)
  • Kids events.  Moms and dads can enjoy an evening to themselves while kids have a blast with us at monthly  Parents Night Out or themed events , such as “Mad Science” or “Slime and Splash.” Bonus: We provide dinner so you pick your kids up fed and ready for bed.
  • Tween events.  Older kids can explore different areas of the club and participate in activities such as sports, swimming, and games.
  • Swim programming .  Lessons are always offered to help your kids learn water safety and become strong swimmers. This time of year,  Summer Swim Team is also an option for kids to try out the fun and competition of being on a team.
  • Fitness & Agility Classes: Kids ages 5 to 13 years can take their sports skills to the next level with these classes designed to teach confidence in athletics and provide fundamental training.
  • Drop-in play.  As a member, you can take advantage of up to 2.5 hours of child care while you use the club. Specific offerings are available for infants, toddlers, and kids, including weekly themed activities.
  • Basketball. Little ballers can  work on their game  with options for camps, clinics, and private or small-group training.
  • Kids Studio Classes.  Younger and older kids can get in a great workout by taking these kid-friendly, 30-minute class versions of some of Life Time’s most popular studio formats. Choose from SOL yoga, Warrior Sculpt, SHRED, LifeBarre, or Ringside.
  • Tennis. Small-group classes  are a chance for kids to enjoy the fun of this racquet sport, while also developing fundamental tennis skills and improving their athleticism.

Family Time Fun

  • Pool play.  Enjoy family swim time for water fun — indoors or outdoors. When the weather’s warm, lounge in the sun poolside while your kids splash.
  • Open gym.  Shoot some hoops or play a friendly game of pickup, HORSE, or Around the World.
  • Family workouts.  Build fitness habits together with Grown Up and Me classes or Family Fitness Events. Check the Life Time Digital app to view the timing and frequency at your athletic country club location.
  • Pickup sports.  Partake in some family competition with a game of tennis, pickleball, or racquetball, or test your climbing skills together on the rock wall.
  • Mealtime. All this activity is bound to work up an appetite. Enjoy a healthy meal you don’t have to cook or clean up in the LifeCafe or to take it to go.

Summer Camps Are Around the Corner: 4 Tips to Select the Right One for Kids

Life Time experts weigh in, Life Time summer camp registration now open for kids ages 5 to 12

CHANHASSEN, Minn. , March 24, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- As summer approaches, many busy parents are thinking about how to occupy their kids' free time. Life Time, (NYSE: LTH), the nation's premier healthy lifestyle brand, provides healthy, engaging and unique summer camps  for more than 11 million kids from ages 5 to 12 annually across North America. For parents on the hunt for the perfect summer camp, here are a few important tips from Life Time Kids' experts to keep in mind:

Life Time’s Kids Camps are designed to give children an unforgettable experience full of adventures, sports, activities, and friendships, all while keeping them active through the summer.

  • Safety First: Make sure to ask questions beforehand to ensure that the summer camp has standard operating procedures in place to keep your kids safe. At Life Time, we require parents to bring a valid membership card or driver's license for both check-in and pick up. Every employee should also have a state-approved background check and those working with kids should be CPR and First Aid-certified.
  • Unique Activities: Consider a camp that engages kids in exciting activities, establishes a routine and encourages them to stay healthy. Every Life Time Summer Camp includes weekly themes, from science experiments to outdoor exploration, giving kids an opportunity to discover something new every day. Two electives are included each week including art, STEAM activities, sports, athletic training, dance, coding, cheer and pickleball. There are also weekly Friday field trips.
  • Schedule Flexibility: Ensure that the camp's start and end times work for everyone. Many camps have forced times for drop-off and pick-up creating extra challenges. Life Time has extended hours to accommodate parents' busy schedules. Camp runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Before care (7-9 a.m.) and aftercare (4-6 p.m.) are included in the cost of camp. Additionally, consider asking about flexible payment options. At Life Time, parents can either pay in full during registration or choose a flexible payment plan.
  • Look for Swim Lessons: Summer is a perfect time to get kids started with swim lessons. Check to see if your camp includes swimming. Daily swim lessons under the supervision of lifeguards and trained professionals are included in Life Time's summer camps, giving parents peace of mind that their kids will be safe around water this summer.

Life Time's Kids Camps are designed to give children an unforgettable experience full of adventures, sports, activities, and friendships, all while keeping them active through the summer. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, physically active children tend to have higher academic achievement, better concentration, and improved self-esteem.

"At Life Time, we strive to make it possible for families to stay healthy together," said Samantha Stark, Senior Director of Life Time's Kids Programming. "Our Kids Camps provide a unique experience that helps kids build confidence, develop new skills, and have fun in a safe and secure environment. We're thrilled for our upcoming camps for members and look forward to making this summer one of memories."
