About Night Ranger

Night Ranger is an American rock band from San Francisco that gained popularity during the 1980s with a series of albums and singles. The band's first five albums sold more than 10 million copies worldwide and have sold 17 million albums total. The quintet is perhaps best known for the power ballad "Sister Christian", which peaked at No. 5 in June 1984. After their success waned in the late 1980s, the band split up in 1989 and its members pursued other musical endeavours including group and solo efforts. Brad Gillis and Kelly Keagy teamed up with bassist Gary Moon and released an album without the other original band members in 1995, but the band soon re-united to release two new albums in the latter half of the decade. Despite the departure of original keyboardist Alan Fitzgerald and guitarist Jeff Watson, the band has continued to tour and remains very popular in Asian countries, particularly Japan.

Loverboy Returns in 2022 with New Single “Release,” Set To Tour With REO Speedwagon and Styx!

“Like millions of others around the globe, we’re ready to rock again,” says Loverboy guitarist/co-founding member Paul Dean about their return to recording and the concert stage in 2022.

The band’s new single, “Release,” slated for release in mid-January on all digital streaming platforms, is a full-throttle rocker Paul had been working on, at first intended for an unnamed metal band which approached him as a songwriter/producer to work with them. But when that didn’t pan out, Dean decided to reach out to the other members of Loverboy to gauge their interest in recording it as their next single, which became “Release.”

“It started out as a frustrated call to action, after months of lock down, and morphed into a metal anthem about the loyalty and commitment of that audience,” said Dean, with lyrics inspired by Sam Dunn’s 2005 documentary Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey. They could well apply to Loverboy itself, going strong more than four decades after forming in Calgary in 1979.

“The communal aspect of heavy rock is almost like a religion,” says Paul. “I’ve always been a big metal fan; My son and I have seen many of those bands in concert.”

Paul started with no music, just the phrase, “I need a release,” and eventually finished writing it, before soliciting the other members of Loverboy, starting with lead singer Mike Reno, who contributed vocals and some evocative lyrics like “It’s a frontal attack/It’s a matter of fact.”And when he continues, “Thinkin’ bout me and you/Couldn’t stop if we wanted to/It’s a bond that can’t be broken/Never broken,” Reno could be talking about the long-term relationships within the band or with their own steadfast fans. Paul recorded Mike’s vocals in a single afternoon at Reno’s Vancouver home studio. “Mike always provides that great energy,” says Paul.

Doug Johnson then added his trademarked keyboard riffs. “He’s such an amazing player and an essential part of the band,” acknowledged Dean. Then, drummer Matt Frenette and bassist Ken “Spider” Sinnaeve, who joined the band in 2001 when original member Scott Smith drowned in a boating accident, provided the always-solid foundation, making “Release” a potent Loverboy anthem in the style of “Working for the Weekend,” “Hot Girls in Love,” “Lovin’ Every Minute of It,” and “Turn Me Loose.”

Working remotely, Frenette sent Dean seven different possible drum “takes” for the track. “That was amazing,” said Paul. “It totally blew me away. And Matt was very helpful in putting the video together as well, he had some great ideas.”

Dean adds, “Looks like we’re finally going to get that “Release” this January, when we play together live for the first time in nearly 2 years!”

Loverboy’s upcoming tour dates include January 23 with Rick Springfield at the Ilani Cowlitz Ballroom in Ridgefield, WA and headlining shows March 3rd and 4th in Windsor and Sarnia, ON. Loverboy will then join fellow rockers Styx and REO Speedwagon for the Live Nation promoted “Live & UnZoomed” tour that kicks off May 31, 2022, in Grand Rapids, MI at the Van Andel Arena.

Loverboy has four multi-platinum albums, including the four-million-selling Get Lucky, and a trio of double-platinum releases in their self-titled 1980 debut, 1983’s Keep It Up and 1985’s “Lovin’ Every Minute of It.” Their string of hits includes, in addition to the arena-rock anthem “Working for the Weekend,” such staples as “Lovin’ Every Minute of It,” “This Could Be the Night,” “Hot Girls in Love,”“Heaven in Your Eyes,” “Turn Me Loose,” “When It’s Over,” “Heaven In Your Eyes,” and “Queen of the Broken Hearts.”

Loverboy singer Mike Reno says fans will be 'lovin' every minute' of hit-filled tour

GREENSBURG — If everything went as planned, Loverboy would have released a song called "Everybody's Waiting For The Weekend."

But singer Mike Reno flubbed a word in the chorus the first time he tried recording his lead vocals, mistakenly singing "Everybody's working for the weekend" instead.

When he heard that miscue, co-lyricist Paul Dean rushed into the vocal studio and said "Holy (cow) that's so much better!"

Right there on the spot, Loverboy changed the chorus from "waiting for the weekend" to the more active sounding " working for the weekend," which perfectly fit the early '80s blue-collar ethos.

And before Loverboy knew it, they had an anthem on their hands.

"So it kind of happened by accident," Reno said, assuring fans they'll hear "Working For The Weekend" in all its original glory on the classic-rock band's U.S. spring tour that kicks off March 9 at the Palace Theatre in Greensburg. Tickets at palacetheatre.org are $56 to $125.

Other notable tour stops include the Spyglass Ridge Winery in Sunbury, Pennsylvania, on May 21; Blossom Music Center near Cleveland on June 1 and Camden, New Jersey, just outside Philadelphia on Aug. 13.

Also announced this past Friday: Loverboy will support REO Speedwagon and Styx on a summer amphitheater tour that plays The Pavilion at Star Lake in Burgettstown on Sept. 10. Other regional dates include Blossom Music Center, Cleveland, Aug. 1; Waterfront Music Pavilion, Camden, N.J., Aug. 13; Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Aug. 17; PNC Bank Arts Center, Holmdel, N.J., Aug. 20;  Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater, Wantagh, N.Y., Aug. 21 and St. Joseph's Health Amphitheater, Syracuse, N.Y., Sept. 9.

But that tour was still a secret when Reno gave a Feb. 8  phone interview focused on the Loverboy headlining tour that Reno promises will be interesting.

"It's going to be obvious we haven't done this for awhile, but it's gonna be great," Reno said. "I'm a little nervous to be honest with you. I told that to a guy I was golfing with the other day, and he said to me, 'But this is what you do.' And he's right. This is what I've always done. And I've missed it."

The Greensburg show originally was slated for April 28, 2021. This will be the Canadian band's first tour in two years.

And yes, they're still rocking the red leather pants and bandannas, Reno said.

"You got that right, brother. We wouldn't be going anywhere without those," Reno said.

That bold look paired with simple but relatable lyrics and irresistible hooks took Loverboy to the top of the rock radio heap in the 1980s.

They were "Lovin' Every Minute of It," to quote a hit Loverboy song, until artistic differences between Reno and Dean briefly broke up the band in 1989.

There'd be reunions and tours, once grunge began to fade.

In 2000, bassist Scott Smith died in a sailing accident, leaving a sorrow still prominently felt by his bandmates. 

But Loverboy soldiered on, and it will be four original members — Reno, Dean, keyboardist Doug Johnson and drummer Matt Frenette — taking the stage together once again this tour with longtime bassist Ken "Spider" Sinnaeve who had played with Dean in a pre-Loverboy band.

"So, the new guy in the band has been with us for 22 years," Reno said.

The secret to their longevity together?

"Other than Paul and I taking our time to pick the right guys, we wanted this to be for the long haul," Reno said. "Of course, not knowing it would be 40 years. That's quite a long haul."

The haul began in 1979, when Reno met Dean at the Refinery Night Club in Calgary. After years of plugging away in clubs and roadhouses, Reno had planned to set aside singing and take a a lengthy sojourn to Los Angeles to visit his brother.

"I had no feelings to start a band by any means," Reno said. "I just started talking with Paul, and we started writing a couple songs and it just happened naturally off that. Paul said 'Why don't we just keep doing this?' I agreed with him."

Once the Loverboy lineup solidified, the band quickly struck gold with the soon-to-turn 40 "Turn Me Loose" becoming a monster rock radio single.

"That song has a power that crept up on you ... it just keeps going, and the lyrics make you want to get up and do what you should have done in the first place, whether it was leave a relationship or leave a job or get out of school and start a job," Reno said.

The band found itself playing on mega tours with Journey, Bob Seger, Cheap Trick, ZZ Top, Kansas and Def Leppard, and became MTV darlings, as one of the first bands featured on the music channel.

"Get Lucky," the 1981 sophomore album, spawned "Workin' For The Weekend," a classic-rock staple.

"When you hear that cowbell and snare drum, like a charge races through you," Reno said. "And it keeps going along a little bit ahead of the beat. That's another one that's grown exponentially. We've had requests for sports programs, sitcoms, commercials. It's like the Energizer Bunny of rock songs."

Reno said Dean wrote the lyrics while living in a downtown apartment, often noticing people on late Friday afternoons carrying their dry cleaning over their shoulders, or a case of beer or bottle of wine, preparing for the weekend.

Many remember "Workin' For The Weekend" being utilized in the legendary "Saturday Night Live" sketch where Chris Farley and Patrick Swayze compete to become Chippendales dancers.  

Reno recalls packing his bags for a trip when he randomly turned on "Saturday Night Live" and saw that skit.

 "They never even told me they were doing that, so I saw it for the first time live on TV like everyone else," Reno said. "I nearly (wet) my pants. That's still one of the funniest skits."

Reno also harbors fun memories of Loverboy's 1985 hit "Lovin' Every Minute of It" used prominently in a National Car Rental commercial where the band got to pal around with "Seinfeld" actor Patrick Warburton.

"What a guy," Reno said, swearing Warburton's deadpan humor is even funnier off-screen. 

Reno achieved record sales success outside of Loverboy including his duet with Heart's Ann Wilson on "Almost Paradise," the love theme from "Footloose."

Wilson arrived late for that studio session, "but it was worth the wait," Reno said.

After she arrived, "We closed the curtains and had a few drinks, easy stuff like light beer," Reno said. "I asked her 'Do you know the song?' She said 'I do.' So then there we were at the same mic, face-to-face and we sang it once then (producer) Keith Olsen came rushing in and said, 'Thank you, that's it.' We got it on the first try."

 While that one probably won't turn up in Loverboy's setlist, the band's big hits all will, each sounding as good as ever, Reno said.

"The way we play them is the way fans heard them for the first time. Because these are songs they have grown up with and have special memories of what they were doing at the time, who they were with, and you have to respect those memories," Reno said. 

"Maybe the solo will be two or three times longer, the intro might be a little different, the exit might be a tiny bit different. But the essence of the sound that made us popular we don't want to mess with that."

A proclaimed Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and Penguins admirer, Reno looks forward to the tour launching show in Westmoreland County.

"I'm going to be so glad to see the crowds. All the guys in the band are so glad to start it up. It'll be the best time we've had in many years."

Rick Springfield will hit the road this summer for a hits-loaded national tour featuring a cast of special guests. 

The likes of ’80s hitmakers Loverboy, Night Ranger, 38 Special, The Fixx, The Romantics, and Tommy Tutone will join the Australian-born rock star, actor and author for his multi-city trek, announced today.  

Springfield’s run is slated to start June 18 at Andover Central Park in Andover, KS and will conclude Aug. 28 at Chastain Park Amphitheater in Atlanta, GA.

FOREIGNER Announces Historic Farewell Tour with Special Guest Loverboy

Tickets go on sale on November 18, 2022.

"I Want To Know What Love Is", "Cold As Ice," "Hot Blooded," "Juke Box Hero," "Urgent,"and no less than five more Top 10 hits. Today, FOREIGNER, the band behind these iconic songs announced the launch of their Farewell Tour.

The tour is set to launch on July 6, 2023, at Atlanta's Ameris Bank Amphitheatre, the area's largest outdoor venue. For the first leg of the US Live Nation tour, FOREIGNER will be joined by LOVERBOY, one of the 80's biggest hit-makers. The spectacular show will thrill audiences with stellar performances of more than 20 combined chart-topping songs. Tickets go on sale on November 18, 2022 here . The full routing can be found below.

FOREIGNER will continue its long-term initiative with the GRAMMY Museum Foundation invite choirs to open the show with a live a cappella 'Pitch Perfect' performance of Classic Rock songs. FOREIGNER will join radio partners across the country to create a contest for local choirs to win donations to their music programs. One winning choir will be selected at each show, and that choir will receive a grand prize of new musical equipment. For more details please go to foreignerchoirs.com.

Leader and founder of FOREIGNER, Mick Jones said, "Many years ago, I wrote a song called 'Feels Like The First Time' and today we are launching one last worldwide tour. We will be presenting a show that I know will have the same enthusiasm as our very first appearances.

The tour will start this summer in America and we hope to get to every place that we have played over the last several years. While I'm sure our fans will have mixed feelings about the end of the road for the band, I know our shows are going to delight audiences everywhere."

Nothin' but a good time: Bret Michaels, Night Ranger and friends set to rock Hertz Arena

Bret Michaels is bringing the party to Southwest Florida ― just in time for Christmas.

The Poison frontman's Parti-Gras Holiday Tour visits Hertz Arena on Friday, Dec. 13, the Estero venue announced Monday. Tickets go on sale this week.

The tour stop is a continuation of 2023's Parti-Gras Tour and features guest stars Night Ranger and Dee Snider of Twisted Sister . Snider will perform a "mash-up" of Twisted Sister's hits with Michaels' band.

The tour is meant to have a fun, Mardis Gras feel celebrating both Michaels' fans and the music.

“I created Parti-Gras as a sincere and grateful thank you to the fans, friends, and family who have rocked with me over the years," Michaels said in a 2022 news release announcing the tour. "I promise to deliver positive energy, live, raw, real music, and all the bands will deliver sing-a-long hit after hit songs. Your voice will be hoarse after an epic, big, fun stage show.“

Bret Michaels: Poison frontman and reality TV star

Michaels is best known as the host of the VH1 show "Rock of Love with Bret Michaels" and as frontman for glam rockers Poison. The '80s rock band's hits include "Talk Dirty to Me," "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" and "Unskinny Bop."

He last played Southwest Florida in 2018 at The Ranch Concert Hall & Saloon in Fort Myers.

There’s a big difference between rock fame and TV fame, Michaels told The News-Press in 2016 .

“Rock is very much a cult following,” said Michaels, who's release both rock and country music as a solo artist. “At moments, it gets very popular. At moments, it goes underground.

“But rock and country fans are extremely loyal… They bring their families and kids, and it keeps going on as long as you stay true to who you are.”

Then there’s TV fame, which taps into a much bigger, more mainstream audience.

“All of the sudden, if you have a show that hits — if you’re doing ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ or ‘Rock of Love’ — it influences people in their living rooms,” Michaels said. “So they either learn to like you or dislike you for what they watch you do."

Tickets for the Hertz Arena show start at $39.50, plus taxes and fees. Parking on site is $30 (cash not accepted).

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, April 26. Pre-sales for qualifying buyers start at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 23.

2024 NHL Playoffs bracket: Stanley Cup Playoffs schedule, start times, games, TV channels for Round 1

The 2024 nhl postseason is in full swing.

The 2024 NHL Playoffs have officially arrived, providing some of the most heart-pounding action in the sports world. With the Vegas Golden Knights set to defend their title, the chase for Lord Stanley's Cup is underway. 

The New York Rangers captured the Presidents' Trophy with the best record throughout the 2023-24 regular season. When the regular season concluded, the Rangers finished with a 55-23-4 record (114 points) as they just edged out the Dallas Stars for that honor.

The structure of the playoffs is as follows:

• The division winner with the most points in each conference will face the second Wild Card team in the first round. The division winner with fewer points in each conference will match up with the top Wild Card team in the first round.
• Each series will be a best-of-seven format.
• Home-ice advantage goes to the team with the top seed in the first two rounds of the playoffs. The team with the most points in the regular season has home-ice advantage in the conference finals and Stanley Cup Final.
• The Stanley Cup Playoffs will begin on April 20 with a matchup between the Carolina Hurricanes and New York Islanders .
