Can Luke Combs, Country’s Everyman, Grow Up Without Losing Touch?

The unflashy 32-year-old star makes irrepressibly catchy and relatable country anthems. Now he’s walking a tricky line: finding ways to evolve without straying too far from his roots.

By David Peisner

CHARLOTTE, Tenn. — On a warm, clear Tuesday in May, Luke Combs offered a visitor a ride around his property in rural Tennessee on one of his Polaris utility vehicles. The 140-acre parcel of forests, fields and streams is about an hour from Nashville. It includes a pool, a beach volleyball court, a chicken coop and a large, white house at the top of a hill where he lives with his wife, who was then eight months pregnant with the couple’s first child.

About 50 yards from the house is a huge barn that has been converted into a sprawling man cave complete with a pool table, weight room, beer tap, hunting trophies, arcade games, platinum records and framed sports jerseys. A beautifully restored hunter-green Ford Ranchero sat in the driveway in front of the house. Parked outside the barn was a brand-new, tricked-out tour bus with a deluxe steam shower and a $4,000 coffee maker.

“We used to have a Keurig,” Combs said with an embarrassed chuckle. “I guess that wasn’t good enough.”

Combs is one of country music’s biggest stars right now. His first 14 singles , including “Doin’ This,” the first from his June 24 album, “Growin’ Up,” have all gone to No. 1 on Billboard’s country airplay chart. His last album, “What You See Is What You Get” from 2019, opened at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with huge streaming numbers, and he’s had 20 songs reach the Hot 100. He recently sold out football stadiums in Denver, Nashville, Seattle and Atlanta, and is the Country Music Association’s reigning entertainer of the year. He’s accomplished this not with virtuosic musical innovation, genre-crossing celebrity collaborations or by hosting a television singing competition, but by cranking out one irrepressibly catchy, widely relatable meat-and-potatoes country anthem after another.

In marketing parlance, Combs seems like the kind of guy you could imagine yourself having a beer with. Now he’s facing an existential crisis that freshly minted stars have often encountered: How do you maintain that man-of-the-people vibe when you’re literally living in a mansion on a hill?

Unlike many country stars of recent vintage, the 32-year-old Combs doesn’t look like the ruggedly handsome model in a Bass Pro Shops ad. He looks like a dude shopping at Bass Pro Shops. He’s a big guy but carries no air of menace. Dressed in a white Vince Gill T-shirt and rumpled khakis, he walked toward the garage where the Polaris was parked, raised a hand in the air and apologized to his visitor. “Just one second,” he said. He needed to relieve himself. Then he stopped near the side door and urinated in the open air, right beside his mansion on the hill.

Combs grew up in Asheville, N.C., a small city with a decidedly bohemian vibe, where he was a relatively indifferent student, and not much of an athlete. He played football in high school, though he admitted that “played” is a generous description. “I rode the bench,” he said. As a teenager, he worked at Asheville’s Fun Depot. “Go-karts, climbing wall, laser tag — it was probably 60,000 square feet of fun,” he said, “unless you worked there.” Although money was never in abundance in his household, his childhood felt stable: “It was pretty super normal which isn’t the most entertaining story of all time.”

One thing which set Combs apart — or which, at least in retrospect, feels noteworthy — is that he always sang: around the house, in church, in his school’s chorus. “I was just drawn to singing,” he said. His parents encouraged his musical interest. When he was in seventh grade, they bought him a guitar. He quit after two lessons and stowed it in his closet. “I hated it,” he said.

Combs enrolled at Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C., but devoted more time to hanging out and drinking than studying. The summer after his third year there, he returned to Asheville and the job at Fun Depot. “It was brutal,” he said. “Everyone was in high school. I was the old guy there.” One day, sitting on his porch, his mother commented that neither Kenny Chesney nor Tim McGraw started playing guitar until they were 21. Maybe it wasn’t too late for him.

“I still had that guitar my parents had gotten me in the closet,” he said. “So, I pulled it out and taught myself to play.”

The guitar not only occupied his time that summer, when he returned to school in the fall, it solved other problems. “If you’re 300-pound guy in college, how do you stand out to the opposite sex?” he asked. “You can’t really sing at a party and not be weird. But if you play guitar, people are like, ‘Cool!’”

Combs met another student named Adam Church, and the two started playing together. “Luke knew three or four chords, not well, then,” Church said in an interview. The two would cover songs like Luke Bryan’s “I Don’t Want This Night to End” and Blake Shelton’s “Boys Round Here,” then upload the videos to YouTube and Vine. “Luke was this heavier-set guy that looked like a normal person but when he’d step to the microphone and open his mouth, everyone’s attention would go straight to him,” Church added.

Combs eventually quit college and began playing more frequently around North Carolina, and later throughout the southeast. At one point, he auditioned for “The Voice.” “I got turned away because my story wasn’t interesting enough,” he said. In 2014, he moved to Nashville. The disinterest he got from labels, publishers, managers and pretty much everyone else connected to the industry there was palpable.

“You walk in the door and it’s an immediate ‘no’ before you’ve said a word,” he recalled in an amiable, slightly bemused Southern drawl. “You’ve got to think, everyone was hot back then. The blueprint was, ‘Let’s get a good-looking guy, Auto-Tune his voice, then put out a song. In a lot of ways, it’s still like that.”

It wasn’t until Combs sold 15,000 downloads of his song “Hurricane” the week it became available on iTunes that Nashville took notice. He signed with Columbia, which rereleased “Hurricane,” the first of his 14 country radio hits. The two albums that followed, “This One’s for You,” in 2017, and “What You See Is What You Get,” were filled with songs that accomplished a deft two-step: They sounded both fresh and instantly familiar.

“I always wanted to write songs that I felt like I wasn’t hearing,” he said. “When I started out, everything was beats or it was really beachy. Not that that’s wrong, but when I grew up, I really loved artists like Vince Gill and Brooks & Dunn. So, when I put stuff out, I want live instruments, no tracks.”

Combs’s songs are filled with classic country signifiers — beer, trucks, a gentle yearning for the glories of yesteryear — but they’re filtered through his own lens. “You know exactly who it is from the first note,” said Miranda Lambert , who collaborated with Combs on “Outrunnin’ Your Memory,” a mid-tempo duet on “Growin’ Up.”

His music paints a picture of a life that feels defiantly ordinary. His 2017 hit, “When It Rains It Pours,” describes a windfall of good luck in decidedly small-bore victories: “a hundred bucks on a scratch-off ticket,” “the last spot in the Hooters’ parking lot,” “three free passes for me and two buddies to play a round of golf.” The most resonant lines in his monster ballad, “Beautiful Crazy,” are about the object of Combs’s affection ditching her weekend plans and instead falling asleep on the couch watching TV.

Jonathan Singleton, who helped write Combs’s 2019 hit “Beer Never Broke My Heart,” as well as four tracks on the new album, compared the usual songwriting process in Nashville to Bingo: Any song can fit any artist. “Luke’s songs aren’t that way,” said Singleton, who also produced “Growin’ Up” with Combs and Chip Matthews. “They’re very personal. He’ll let you in. He’s a regular dude that sings and writes wonderful songs, but he feels like this unbeatable underdog.”

Combs’s brand as an Everyman with a Midas touch was rattled in early 2021, when images of him performing in a 2015 music video in front of a Confederate flag and sporting a Confederate flag sticker on an old guitar began recirculating online. This followed the emergence of a video of the country star Morgan Wallen using a racial slur, which spurred a fraught dialogue around race and racial equity within the genre that is still ongoing. Combs publicly apologized for appearing with the flag, but in the same troubling way that Wallen’s brief rebuke by the country music industry spurred a corresponding boost in his streaming numbers, Combs’s mea culpa created its own backlash.

“There were fans that were upset that I apologized and fans that were glad I did,” he said. “That was a tough time. Before it was all roses, then this thing happens and it’s like, ‘Hey man, you’re a racist.’ I’ve never been that political of a dude but someone telling me I’m racist was a big problem for me, because I’m not racist.”

It would’ve been easier, Combs said, to do nothing and let the situation fade from view. But the episode struck at the heart of who he is. “I’m a people-pleaser,” he said. “I’m a guy that derives a lot of my happiness from making sure other people are happy. That’s the nature of my job.”

This baseline complaisance informed his creative process on “Growin’ Up.” “Let’s say ‘This One’s for You’ is the record a lot of people that like me fell in love with,” he said. “If I put out an album that’s completely different, those people are like, ‘I bought this grape Gatorade and now it tastes like limes.’ But I also don’t want to put out the same record seven or eight times.”

One manifestation of this modest evolutionary impulse is that — as both Combs and Singleton pointed out — there are no beer songs on the new album. To be clear, beer still makes a few appearances, but Combs’ music has changed alongside his reality. “I’m in this transitional phase where there are days that I’m like, ‘I could crush 100 beers tonight at a bar and play for five hours,’” he said. “Other nights, I don’t want to get off the couch. I want to hang with my wife and get ready to have this kid.”

Some changes are inevitable, but according to Singleton, who first met Combs before he’d signed with Columbia, the only big difference he sees in the 2022 version of Combs is “his bank account.” That’s the thrust behind “Doin’ This,” which imagines a universe where stardom eluded Combs but he still performs Friday nights at his local bar. He enlisted his college buddy Church — who, as it happens, is living the song’s sliding-doors reality — to star in the song’s video.

“I’m still playing in my hometown for the most part,” Church said. “Luke’s on this huge scale but if he went the other route like me, he’d still be playing music. He’s the same dude now he was then.”

As Combs steered his Polaris along a wooded trail, past a 100-year-old tobacco barn on his property, he echoed his friend’s contention. “I moved to Nashville and was like, ‘If I can make a living doing music somehow, that’d be enough.’” He wanted to sing but would’ve settled for less: “Being a songwriter, working at a publishing company, booking bands at a bar, whatever.”

He drove past his giant man-cave, his new tour bus, toward his big white house, then stopped. “I wasn’t smart enough to plan all this in advance,” he said. “I’ve just been smart enough to not plummet the plane into the earth. Well, not yet.”

The 22-year-old singer and songwriter Wyatt Flores makes music that touches listeners deeply. But his own trauma — coupled with his rapid rise  — has thrown some bumps in the road.

Zach Bryan’s country-rock-adjacent rumbles have made him one of music’s most popular new stars . On the first night of his arena tour, he showcased his bond with the fans that brought him there.

A fan asked his Oklahoma radio station to play a new Beyoncé song. The request was rejected, reigniting a debate about the exclusion of Black musicians from country music .

Jelly Roll, one of 2023’s surprise success stories in the music industry, has become known as much for emotional openness as for hit songs .

CMAT, whose real name is Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson, combines country music’s enduring themes of heartbreak and self-destruction with camp humor and a distinctly Irish sense of the absurd .

Combs is currently celebrating the release of his new album, Gettin’ Old–a companion to his acclaimed 2022 record, Growin’ Up–which was released earlier this spring via River House Artists/Columbia Nashville (stream/purchase here). Receiving critical acclaim, The New York Times praises, “…grounded in country, complete with fiddle fills, but it’s also pointed toward a wide pop audience” while Billboard proclaims, “his electrifying-yet-earthy voice soundtracking this time in his life as a husband, father and entertainer at the top of his game” and American Songwriter declares, “He’s a rock star at this point.” Produced by Combs, Chip Matthews and Jonathan Singleton, Gettin’ Old is Combs’ fourth full-length album following Growin’ Up, 2019’s What You See is What You Get and This One’s For You.

OpenAI inks strategic tie-up with UK's Financial Times, including content use

OpenAI, maker of the viral AI chatbot ChatGPT, has netted another news licensing deal in Europe, adding London's Financial Times to a growing list of publishers it's paying for content access. The latest deal looks a touch cozier than other recent OpenAI publisher tie-ups -- such as with German giant Axel Springer or with the AP, Le Monde and Prisa Media in France and Spain respectively -- as the pair are referring to the arrangement as a "strategic partnership and licensing agreement". On the content licensing front, the pair said the deal covers OpenAI use of the FT's content for training AI models and, where appropriate, for displaying in generative AI responses produced by tools like ChatGPT, which looks much the same as its other publisher deals.

Have tickets for Luke Combs' concerts in Jacksonville? Here's what you need to know

luke combs tour buses

A little less than eight years ago, Luke Combs was fairly unknown, playing clubs like the old Mavericks Live in the Jacksonville Landing. Now he’s headlining two shows at EverBank Stadium , and doing the same at stadiums across the country.

In the intervening years, he’s gotten three Grammy nominations, been named Country Music Association Entertainer of the Year twice, released one of the funniest Number One hits in years with “When It Rains It Pours” and brought down the house at a nationally televised Grammy Awards show by duetting with Tracy Chapman on her hit “Fast Car.”

Combs plays Friday, May 3, and Saturday, May 4, at the stadium, with a different cast of opening acts each night.

Here's what you need to know about the shows.

Where is Luke Combs playing in Jacksonville?

Luke Combs will play two concerts at Jacksonville's EverBank Stadium , the home of the Jaguars .

Can I still get tickets for the Luke Combs concerts?

Yes, through the stadium’s website, everbankstadium.com. Combs will have a general admission “pit” near the front of the stage, where tickets are $176. Seated areas on the floor go for $119.50-$176. Seats in the bowl are $59.50-$219.50.

Does one ticket get me into both Luke Combs concerts?

Afraid not. The events are separately ticketed.

Has Luke Combs ever played a concert in Jacksonville?

Combs’ history of playing live in Jacksonville goes back to July of 2016, when he played at the old Mavericks Live in the Jacksonville Landing. He also played at the Florida Theatre in December of 2017, the Players Championship Military Appreciation Day in May of 2018 and VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in October of 2021.

What other stadiums is Luke Combs playing on the Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old Tour?

The tour includes stops at the home stadiums of the Milwaukee Brewers, Buffalo Bills, Penn State Nittany Lions, Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners, San Francisco 49ers, Arizona Cardinals, Utah Utes, Los Angeles Rams/Chargers, New York Giants/Jets, Washington Commanders, Cincinnati Bengals and Houston Texans. He’s playing back-to-back nights at all of the shows except Penn State.

Will Luke Combs play “Fast Car” and my other favorites?

That’s hard to say for certain, but it seems likely. Combs played back-to-back nights in April in Milwaukee and played “Fast Car” and “When It Rains It Pours” both nights.

What songs is Luke Combs singing on tour in 2024? And is he signing the same songs both nights?

In Milwaukee, Combs played 25 songs during the first night’s show. He mixed up the order, but 20 of the 25 songs were repeated at the second night’s show.

Where can I park for the Luke Combs concerts?

The stadium’s website has a link to parking options , ranging from $49-$107.50. There are thousands of spots in lots and garages in the nearby downtown area, but many of those will be occupied by workers on Friday.

Getting there: How to get to events at EverBank Stadium

Gates open at 5 p.m.

Can I jump into the EverBank Stadium swimming pools if I get overheated during the Luke Combs shows?

No, the “spas” on the north end of the stadium will not be open during the concerts. The entire north end of the stadium, which is behind the stage, will be closed to the public. The seats in Daily’s Place, the amphitheater attached to the southern end of the stadium, will be used as a cooling-off area for fans.

The opening acts for Saturday's show are Colby Acuff , Drew Parker , Mitchell Tenpenny and Jordan Davis .

Will the Luke Combs concerts be rescheduled if it rains?

As the man himself says, “when it rains, it pours.” Acts may be postponed due to lightning, but the shows are rain or shine. The stage will be covered, but the fans won’t be.

What can I bring with me to the Luke Combs concert?

Policies will be the mostly the same as at a Jaguars game. You can bring in one factory-sealed water bottle that is 16.9 ounces or less. All bags brought into the stadium must be clear and no larger than 12-by-6-by-12 inches. Backpacks of any kind (even clear) are prohibited, and no outside food or beverages are permitted.

I have a gift for Luke Combs. Can I bring it to the show?

Sorry, you’ll have to find another way to get it to him. “Wrapped gifts for the artists” are specifically prohibited. Also, you can’t profess your love for him (or deliver any other message) on a sign larger than 16-by-20 inches.

Can I hold up my phone and record the whole Luke Combs concert?

There’s no rule against that, but the people sitting behind you will hate you for it.

Luke combs electrifies record-setting beaver stadium crowd in ‘growin’ up and gettin’ old’ tour performance.

American country singer Luke Combs made a long-awaited stop at Beaver Stadium during his ‘Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old’ tour for a performance.

Combs and his openers, Colby Acuff, Drew Parker, Mitchell Tenpenny, and Jordan Davis, played through cold, misty conditions in front of 80,000 fans — the largest crowd Combs has ever played in front of.

Idaho native Acuff was the first performer to take the stage, saying, “Thank you all for showing up early. We appreciate y’all!” After playing “Dying Breed,” Acuff told fans to put their drinks in the air.

Acuff also sang “Western White Pines” and “If I Were The Devil” before wrapping up his 15-minute set by saying, “Penn State, thank you so much.”

Parker graced the stage next rocking a cowboy hat, quickly saying, “Penn State, what’s up? Y’all ready to have a good time?” Parker, hailing from Georgia, began singing at age three and started with a performance of “Raised Up Right” while strumming an electric guitar.

“My name is Drew Parker, and I’m so happy to be here,” he said after his first song. Parker then went into “I’ll Love You Longer,” new song “Love The Leavin,'” and “While You’re Gone.” Parker also sang “The Truck” before thanking the crowd multiple times and exiting the stage.

With a No. 24 Penn State football jersey, Tenpenny then hit the stage by asking fans how they were doing. After playing “We Got History” and “Bigger Mistakes,” Tenpenny switched guitars and asked how the crowd was for a second time.

Tenpenny led the first “We Are” chant of the night, and responded by saying, “That’s pretty damn cool.” He then went into a former No. 1 hit in “At the End of a Bar.” He went on to say selling out Beaver Stadium can now be checked off his bucket list and said he’ll be back in the future to watch a football game.

After introducing his band that included his younger brother, Rafe, on bass, Tenpenny played “Alcohol You Later,” “Drunk Me,” and his first big hit “Truth About You.” While showing his gratitude for everyone that showed up early, Tenpenny played a cover of “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls while many listeners shined and waved their flashlights.

“Jordan Davis and Luke Combs up next. Let’s go,” Tenpenny said before one final “We Are” chant and leaving the stage.

During a long break between sets, a wave circled around Beaver Stadium multiple times while folks eagerly waited for the final opener, Davis, to take the stage.

After the pause, Davis jogged out in a Penn State hoodie while hyping up the crowd and quickly played his first song, “Damn Good Time.” Upon finishing, he began giving out high fives to fans in the front row and said, “Let’s get it going, Penn State.”

“Singles You Up,” “Whiskey Weak,” and “Almost Maybes,” which Davis interrupted with a story about his college girlfriend, followed. Then, he said “Let’s take a trip to Tucson, Arizona, real quick if you don’t mind” and played “Tucson Too Late.” Davis switched the lyrics by saying “I got to Pennsylvania with Luke Combs right on time.”

Davis said this was the greatest night of his life and that he’s heard that Beaver Stadium is the rowdiest place in college football, which led to an eruption from the fans. It was then his turn to lead a “We Are” chant, which he immediately called the coolest moment of his life so far.

Davis played “Next Thing You Know,” “Slow Dance In A Parking Lot,” and “Part Of It” before thanking the crowd again and giving high praise to his tour partners. He then went into “Buy Dirt.”

He got the crowd ready for the main performer when he said, “We had one job. That was to get this place ready for Luke Combs,” and played his final song, “What My World Spins Around.” At 8:38 p.m., Davis left the stage by saying, “I love you, Penn State. Thank you so much.”

Twenty-four minutes later, Combs took the stage to flashing red lights and a pounding bass while sporting a camouflage hoodie and navy blue Penn State hat. “Penn State, how we feelin’ baby?” he asked.

Combs announced 80,000 folks were on site, which he said was “the biggest show [he’s] ever played in [his] whole life,” leading to a roar throughout the stadium. He said no matter the size of the crowd, he never takes it for granted and he is always thankful to step onto the floor.

Combs wasted no time in getting into some of his biggest hits, including “The Kind of Love We Make,” “Where the Wild Things Are,” and “Forever After All” early in his set. Combs then brought up the gratitude he has for his wife and two sons before playing “Houston, We Got a Problem.”

luke combs tour buses

No matter how big or small an experience, Combs said he cherishes them all, and this concert was certainly one of those for him. At the end of his next song “One Number Away,” Combs shouted “Thank y’all.”

Combs told a story about the struggles he went through during the COVID-19 lockdown but while working with Parker, he realized music was the only thing he knew how to do, leading into his song “Doin’ This.” He added his first Beaver Stadium reference of the night during the song. Then, while playing “Going, Going, Gone,” many fans put their arms around one another and swayed side to side.

Before playing “Even Though I’m Leaving,” Combs said not everyone understands his songs the same way he does, especially the 2019 song. During a short break between songs, he asked if there were any repeat attendees. Then, he said he always plays a song by himself to pay tribute to the days he played in front of two people on his couch at home, which was “This One’s For You.”

luke combs tour buses

Prior to his arrival on stage, fans had the opportunity to vote for a song, and the winner was “Beer Can,” but he made a lyric change, singing, “Nothing picks me up like Penn State, baby.” After concluding the song, Combs introduced each of his band members and allowed them to play a solo, one of which was a “Drops of Jupiter” singalong.

As the rain began falling harder, it became storytime in Happy Valley. Combs said earlier in the day, he met a family that flew from San Diego, California, for the show. A young girl who recently beat cancer was a part of that family, and he found out she raised $100,000 for cancer research, prompting him to match the amount and donate $100,000 of his own to the same cause. He then progressed into what he learned is her favorite song, “Fast Car.”

The concert’s speed picked up after “Fast Car” when Combs played his first big hit from 2016, “Hurricane,” and he told the crowd to sing it with him. During his next two songs, “Brand New Man” and “1, 2 Many,” a fist fight broke out in the pit, but Combs didn’t recognize and continued singing. Also during “1, 2 Many,” Combs shotgunned a beer with a fan in the pit.

“When It Rains It Pours” appeared to be Combs’ final song, as he said “Penn State, my name is Luke Combs. Thank you so much.” However, moments later, he reentered and told everyone they had time for one more, which turned out to be his classic closer, “Beer Never Broke My Heart.”

After an hour and 38 minutes of stage time, Combs showed his gratitude for the crowd again and told Beaver Stadium he’ll be back one day.

  • DebbJ 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Great way to get oriented to Moscow We started our Moscow experience with the hop on hop off. It was a great way to get orientated to the city. The additional optional tours were also good, we did the Metro tour which I highly recommend, we also paid for the Kremlin tour. The hop on hop off has three different lines all included. Only fault was the bus was sometimes full and you had to wait for the next one which was about 15 minutes (in the cold). Read more Written January 6, 2020

  • BeverleyT 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Boat trip - TERRIBLE We got on the bus, but couldn’t buy a 1 day ticket. They suggested we do the 1 hour boat trip and said they would drop us to the dock. 1) they dropped us in the wrong place 2) they were lost because of the marathon Then the boat, after we finally found it: 1) stinking fumes, actually gagging 2) no commentary, in fact, no interaction unless you begged 3) offered us 2 for 1 icecreams as they had melted and refrozen as the fridge gets turned off at night Honestly, we enjoyed the afternoon in the boat but spent all of it laughing at just how awful it was!!! The worst thing in Moscow! Read more Written August 18, 2019
  • niruDurbs 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Not the best value for the price The ticket is quite expensive and covers three different routes in a 24 hour period. The red route is quite exciting and takes about an hour. The bus comes every 10 to 15 minutes. However the other two routes take about two hours each and buses come every 30 to 40 minute period. If the bus is full then you have to wait at the stop for the next bus. So personally I feel that not much can be seen this way. I definitely was not impressed. However it must be noted that one can learn a lot about the history of Moscow Read more Written July 3, 2019
  • IrishCueTravel 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles SLO Motion Not all their fault , but if you plan on trying this Attraction be patient! Traffic is a big problem first and foremost. But to add additional unnecessary delays; the bus stops at each site for 15 minutes at a time or More ! I gave up half way through ( 45 minutes) ; and walked back to the starting point in 10 minutes! • michael g 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Worst hop on/hop off EVER Waited for 40 minutes in the cold rain for a bus that never came... unacceptable. Traffic is so bad that when on a bus the previos day it was barely moving. My advice-get a subway pass and a good travel guide book and do sightseeing on your own! Read more Written October 24, 2018
  • Rebecca J 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Boat element was excellent We purchased a ticket online for the boat and bus for 2 days. The boat element was wonderful, we saw some amazing parts of Moscow along the river side. The bus element was very disappointing as it only started at 10am and was finished by 6:30pm. It was extremely warm when we were there and it would have been great to do the tour in the cool of the day. There was also no air conditioning in the down stairs part of the bus. They also turned away passengers at one of the stops as the bus was full and there was not another bus for 40 minutes. Read more Written September 26, 2018
  • Monismith2014 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles it was very enjoyable it was very interesting seeing things we saw walking around from the bus. so much more to see. we had a lot better view of the attractions from the height of the bus.also the bus was reasonable slow which gave us time enough for photos. it stopped at sparrow hill for 10 minutes for picture taking Read more Written September 20, 2018
  • fati666222 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles The best way to see Moscow We did both routes but if you have little time then only do the red route. Its very informative and it takes you to the important sights. The staff on the bus are very friendly and helpful. Read more Written August 20, 2018
  • adolfo17 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles The worst hope-on hope-off service I've ever seen Diffiult to understand the route maps and stops. Staff wouldn't help either. Lengthy stops. No air conditioning. Read more Written August 4, 2018
  • Peter F 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Two Routes There is a short red route which depending on the traffic takes about an hour. The route is generally around the Red Square area. The ear phones were small and sometimes the commentary did not link up with the sites you were seeing. The green bus takes you on a longer route and ours took two and a half hours due to the heavy traffic. I would not recommend this trip unless it is raining or you want to fill in time. The sights we saw were nothing outstanding with plenty of time at certain stops for photos. Also the driver stop for a bite to eat at one stop. Read more Written July 30, 2018
  • Bernardo P 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Boat Trips Moscow, Russia Yesterday, I booked a boat trip with the GetYourGuide.com web page and was totally horrible, didn’t have audio guide as it shows on the picture-Nobody Talk-. The girl on the picture-light blue bag-ask for 100 Rubles for show her the QR Code while I had the Booking and PIN number cause she must see the vessel name-Didn’t say nothing and after she said board any vessel. I suggest take the trip and pay on site, avoid fake internet pages, there are many other services with a lot of entertainment, don’t take this ones. Read more Written July 14, 2018
  • Kathrynowl91 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Good way to see some sites We usually do these tours when we travel. They get you round and you see the sight . The traffic is quite heavy so it is a bit slow but there is not a lot they can do about it. We only did the red route. Just a note people don’t queue here when the bus comes it’s a bit of a free for all. Read more Written July 13, 2018
  • Daniyal91 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Was Ok.! Started our tour of moscow from here, We had got the 2 Day Pass with the boat ride. The route and the map was good but not well managed. The bus didn't stop at many points. Were were unaware a couple of times at what point we were and missed them. Headphones and maps were provided. Would recommend one should check out the route map before going and decide which places to stop in advance, this way one can manage and enjoy the tour more and us it more effectively.! The boat ride was Ok, a little crowded. No guide provided, just a boat ride with restaurant service Read more Written July 12, 2018
  • WilliamDyer 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Poor service on boat and too many waiting times on buses For the price, you should expect at minimum English speaking tour guides with decent experience, but at least in my case that did not happen both in buses and boats. And in the boat even tough we were 90% English speaking tourist at least, the tour guide spoke 95% of the time in Russia, and only 3 sentences in English, I really counted how many times she spoke in English. And at the end she asks us if we have any questions? Of course I told her I couldn’t ask her anything since I didn’t understand 95% of what she was saying. The boat tour is not worth it, just take the bus that would be my advice. Second minus is the waiting times, in the boat they made us wait an hour before it departed, and in many stops with the buses waiting times of 20-30 minutes. I actually think I lost that day around 2 hours doing nothing. Be careful. Read more Written July 10, 2018
