Cycling Mekong Delta in Vietnam 5 Days
The pre-tour communication and organisation of the website was very good. The tour itself with Vietnam by Bike was also a wonderful experience. Our guide, Loq, and driver Tuong, were dependable, good company and most importantly flexible and insightful regarding our capabilities and needs. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to go off the beaten track, is prepared to expend a bit of energy and to have a little adventure.
Cycling Vietnam: Hoi An package 5 days
We had an excellent biking tour experience in Vietnam. Our guide Mai Thieu was fantastic. He took us all around the Hoi An area, through quiet villages, rice fields, and beautiful countryside. All the journeys were on back roads and quiet paths away from busy streets. Thieu's local knowledge was extensive, and he knew just where to take us for amazing meals and local delicacies. We can't wait to come back for more!
Cycling Vietnam’s Backroads 13 Days

Vietnam Central Coast Cycling Tour
I went on a very special tour Mr. Biker Saigon organised, partnered with H2H charity ride. Everything was so professionally planed and executed that really made a difference. It was a very meaningful experience I will always remember. Thanks for creating wonderful memories Thai and crew(!
Cycling Vietnam
Had a great trip with 8 cyclists. Can’t imagine the maximum of 18 people which is how the trip is described. Our trip leader Tri Was utterly amazing! So caring and conscientious and helpful to everyone in fact our support team and trip leader were the best! I could not have asked for more. Most of recycling areas in the country were just beautiful. Could have avoided the larger cities due to so much traffic. The addition of cultural experiences was a nice touch.Tri Was able to give us a lot of information and history while on the bus which was appreciated by all. I would highly recommend this trip if the number of participants was kept to the Lowe number!!
Best Selling Vietnam Motorbike Tour to Sapa via Mu Cang Chai from Hanoi
We're a group of 6 Australians guys taking this motorbike trip with this company. It's really an awesome trip in our life. We were arranged all new Honda CRF 250cc & staying at the local families in the Northern Vietnam with the hill tribes. Our guide took us to so many unspoiled destinations where we can discover beautiful landscapes. Foods were so amazing with all local tastes. In general, all services provided on the tour are so fabulous and flawless and highly recommend this tour to everyone. We'll use them again for other trips
Vietnam Motorbike Tour from Hanoi to Hoi An, Da Nang on Ho Chi Minh Trail & Along the Coast
We had a small group of 3 plus a guide from Hanoi to Saigon. Mr Dong and the DNQ Travel company are very professional so have no fear of the trip not being well organised or fraud. Their communication with customers is also very prompt. Our guide was excellent, breakdowns like flat tyres or clutch cable breaks - he managed. The bikes were Honda CRF 250cc and were fantastic over any terrain. We biked through 2 typhoons and other wet weather - well one was mostly on a re8st day!
Cu Chi Tunnels Rural and Mekong Delta Bike Tour
Had a great 3 day bike trip. The guide, Dat, spoke English really well and was so informative, just perfect for an intellectually curious couple. The bikes were good for the terrain and were well cared for. The company were flexible and adjusted their plan to accommodate our desire to cycle longer distances. The reception at the HOMESTAY was genuinely warm and we felt very much welcomed by Mr Tang and his wife. Dinner was a delight and I even got his recipe for the prawns! Absolutely memorable time - thank you
Road Biking the Ho Chi Minh Highway
Shame on me! We should have brought our own bikes! between us we own 9 bikes and would have had no problem as to cost or expense but the logistics prevented bringing our own. bikes were 4-6 years old, not properly maintained, for example no rear brakes, chain "jumping" when shifting. We felt bad for our guide who also was an excellent mechanic but due to lack of support from Spice Roads he did as good as can be expected. Unless you bring you own bike or just go for a day ride, I would seriously suggest that you shop around.
Vietnam by Bike
Fabulous trip. Great itinerary. Great guide and group. Cycling was challenging at times bit very do-able for the average person who is up for a challenge.
Cycling Vietnam Saigon - Hanoi
Having been to Vietnam before, we booked this tour as a new way of experiencing this wonderful country. It did not disappoint. With Tung's expert guidance we explored the highlands and central coast, mostly using little-travelled backroads that took us through grand scenery and busy villages, through rice fields, across passes and along countless shrimp farms and monuments to ancestors. We cycled a total of 500km in the 10 biking days, but the daily amount is flexible as the van accompanying us would enable a shortening (or extending) of daily distances. Taking our food preferences into account we were guided to local eateries and street food vendors where we experienced the best local dishes. Accomodations were excellent and the fact that we had nothing to worry about at all during the whole trip made this tour absolutely the best way to visit Vietnam. I wholeheartedly recommend their tour to anyone who is keen on some active exploration of Vietnam and hope to be able to return myself to do some more exploring with them!
Cycling Saigon to Hoi An
Great fun, Tung the driver being very experienced and knowledgeable and Duong oue enthusiastic guide. Enjoyed great rides, the descent from the pass near Dalat for 30km to the Nha Trang hinterland being outstanding. Got to see small village Vietnam and enjoy meals at local restaurants. Great experience.

Reviews from our friends
Philip B. from NZ
Great people to travel with!
From the minute we met our guide and driver (Lok & Bot and then later Nam & Kong) we knew we were in good hands for our journey south to north through Vietnam. Great people to travel with and they customised our cycling distances etc to our needs on the fly! The food, accommodation and wider cutural experiences were genuinely enriching and made for a truly fantastic experience. The organisation prior to the trip was very efficient and friendly. We highly recommend The Art of Bicycle Trips!
What Does a Day On Your Vietnam Bike Tour Look Like?
At Art of Bicycle Trips, we believe in experiential travel. Our tours combine cycling with cultural activities and nature exploration.
An average day on tour includes 4-5 hours of biking, with the rest of the day reserved for local experiences such as exploring local attractions, interacting with local communities, visiting monuments and museums, learning local crafts, trying local cuisine and more. Most days may also include shuttle transfers of between 1-2 hours.
Each guided Vietnam bike tour is led by an expert trip leader who is also a local. ABT trip leaders are a repository of local knowledge, routes, customs, cultures, and cuisines. By employing only local guides, we also help generate employment opportunities for local communities.
All hotels on tour are carefully chosen for their character, comfort, and cuisine, and each hotel becomes an experience in itself that guests can enjoy.
A support vehicle accompanies guests at all times, and if at any point a rider does not feel like biking any further, they can always load their bike and sit in the support van.
We pride ourselves on the degree of customization we provide on each tour, and are always happy to accommodate any special requests from our guests relating to the tour.
What Types of Accommodation Should I Expect On a Bike Tour in Vietnam?
We have two types of accommodation on all our Vietnam bike tours:
Premier inns
These are best-in-class accommodations that include a mix of tastefully restored heritage properties and modern luxury hotels.
La Residence and Anantara are examples of premiere inns we use on our Vietnam Bike tours.
Casual inns
These are a mix of small luxury hotels, boutique inns, and homestays. Most of these are classified as three-star hotels, with the occasional four-star as well.
For instance, Pu Luong Home is a homestay we use on several of our Vietnam bike tours.
Cocoland River Beach Resort is an example of a boutique hotel that we use for casual inns.
However, please note that this isn't a strict dichotomy, and the final selection of hotels in an itinerary is influenced by availability of hotels in that region as well. For instance, sometimes we include boutique hotels among our Premiere inns as well to connect the dots in the itinerary. At times, there aren’t many options available in particular locations and we pick the best available hotel in that region. This is especially true for locations that are off-beat or remote.
Are There Opportunities to Try Local Cuisine Along the Way?
Yes, on most days we have lunch at local restaurants along the way that serve delicious Vietnamese food.
For more details, refer to the detailed itinerary for your chosen Vietnam bike tour, or have a look at our Vietnam cycling guide to know more about some must-have dishes on a Vietnam bike tour
Which Types of Bikes Are Provided On Your Cycling Tour in Vietnam?
We have mountain bikes available for all our Vietnam bike tours. The bikes we use are Trek Marlin, Trek X Caliber, Cannondale Trail or similar.
For the following three tours, gravel bikes are also available in addition to mountain bikes:
- High in the Northwest Gravel Bike
- Ho Chi Minh Trail by Gravel Bike
- Enthralling Coastal Vietnam Bike Tour
The gravel bikes we use are Giant Northwest, Trek Gravel Bike or Similar
E-bikes are available for all our Vietnam Bike Tours.
What Is the Terrain Like in Vietnam?
About 40% of Vietnam is mountainous and one should expect to encounter hills at most places except the northeastern corner which makes up the Red River delta and the southwestern corner which makes up the Mekong delta.
However, most of these hills are not very challenging. The only challenging climbs are the occasional mountain pass such as the following:
Tram Ton pass at 2000m (6561 ft) in Lai Chau is Vietnam’s highest pass. The pass is located in Sapa, and if your itinerary includes Sapa, such as the High in the Northwest Gravel Bike tour or the Hanoi to Luang Prabang bike tour,
The Han Giao pass at 1,600m (5,390ft) is located in southern Vietnam, and if your itinerary includes the beach resort of Nha Trang, such as the Riveting Saigon to Hanoi bike tour, you will encounter this pass.
The Hai Van pass in Hoi An 500 m (1,630 ft) is another mountain pass in Vietnam, and if your itinerary includes Hoi An, such as the Hue to Hoi An Bike tour, you will encounter this pass.
Please also note that in Vietnam, the road surface may vary from being paved surface to being gravel, dirt, or sand. We also cross several narrow crescent bridges.
What Is the Best Time of the Year to Go On a Cycling Holiday in Vietnam?
Vietnam is a tropical country located in the northern hemisphere, and the best time for a cycling tour in Vietnam is generally from September to May. However, there are some regional variations, for instance, south Vietnam is a year-round destination, with only April and May being uncomfortably hot. For more details on the best time to bike in each region of Vietnam, refer to our Vietnam cycling guide .
How Far in Advance Should I Book the Tour, and What Is the Booking Process Like?
It is advised to book your bike tour at least 6 months prior to departure.
To book a tour, we require a deposit of 10% of the tour price per person. Once the deposit is received, we’ll send you a confirmation mail. The remaining payment needs to be made 2 months prior to departure. For more details, refer to our Terms and Conditions page.
Our tours are all-inclusive, which means meals, permits, fees, transportation and other additional costs are included in the price of the trip, unless otherwise stated.
Vietnam Bike Tours — Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to cycle vietnam.
If you plan to bike the entire length of Vietnam from Hanoi to Saigon, 17 days is a good time. This allows you to cover all the major highlights including Halong Bay, Ninh Binh, Hue, Hoi An, Ho Chi Minh, etc. You can also do a shorter version of the tour in 14 days.
If you plan to only bike a portion of Vietnam, such as coastal Vietnam or northern Vietnam, 9-10 days is usually enough

Vietnam is a tropical country with warm weather that receives plenty of rain. So it is good to wear loose, comfortable clothing that keeps you cool while also protecting you from the sun. It is also good to pack a light rain jacket to account for the unpredictable weather. Avoid wearing clothes that are too short or too tight.

Yes, Vietnam is a popular cycling destination. Not only does it receive thousands of international visitors each year, but cycling is also popular among the Vietnamese as a means of commuting over short distances. Biking in Vietnam – Top 10 cycling and mountain biking destinations
- Travel inspiration
Cycling in Vietnam is perhaps the best way to see the country up close. From place to place you see students cruising between cars and motorcycles on their way to school and sellers stack racks of goods on their way to the market. Whether you want to cycle on quiet country roads to see rice fields, ride between ancient temples or zigzag between market stalls, it is certainly an adventure to explore Vietnam by bike.
1. Mekong Delta
Thanks to the many hiking trails through the flat landscape along rice fields, fruit orchards, forests, the Mekong Delta is a fantastic location to enjoy an ecological and sustainable journey. The Mekong Delta is as flat as a pancake, so cyclists of different levels can participate in cycling tours without any worries. It is also the most user-friendly destination for cycling in Vietnam.
Hoi An is a small town that won’t take you much time to explore. Use the time you have to explore the countryside around Hoi An by bike. Bicycle rental in Hoi An is very popular and affordable and often even free to borrow at your accommodation. The streets of the old town are closed for motorized traffic for much of the day, so you can explore the old bridges and heritage houses at your leisure. The good roads around the city make it easy and fun to explore the countryside and cycle to various craft villages.
3. Mai Chau
Mai Chau is tucked away in an idyllic valley northwest of Hanoi, far from the busy. Lush rice fields surround picturesque villages and offer spectacular landscapes of rural life. With minimal traffic, this is a great area for cycling in Vietnam. Choose a bike tour or borrow bikes from your accommodation to explore the trails around Mai Chau, it’s not only a great way to practice, but also great for sightseeing.
Hue is a great place for cycling in Vietnam. In Hue and around the city you will find beautiful and impressive palaces, tombs and pagodas of former rulers of Vietnam. You can cycle between these ancient sights and along the Perfume River or through the countryside and along the beaches.
Cool mountain air, great views and beautiful forest trails make Dalat a paradise for mountain bikers. This city perched on the top of a hill has always been a favorite retreat for French people during the colonial period and now also for couples, adventurers and mountain bike enthusiasts. A mix of climbs, descents and individual tracks leads you through spectacular pine forests, fields, past coffee plantations and up and down mountains.
6. Ninh Binh
Ninh Binh is also called the Halong Bay on land. This means that you will find large limestone mountains and rocks here, but it is completely flat between these mountains; a paradise for cyclists. Here you get the chance to gain insight into the rural life of Vietnam by bicycle. The countryside is a living museum that offers you the opportunity to take beautiful pictures of villagers catching fish, children swimming in the pond or women working on the land among the rice fields.
7. Cat Tien National Park
Cat Tien National Park is located in the south of Vietnam, about 150 km north of Ho Chi Minh. It has a rich biodiversity of swamp and tropical rain forest. It has many routes, botanical gardens and decades-old trees. That is why Cat Tien is the perfect place for mountain biking and ecotourism.
The capital of Vietnam is dotted with parks, lakes and promenades on the river, with French, Chinese and Southeast Asian influences that can be found in the buildings in Hanoi. You can see various of these sights with a bike ride through the city. Another option is cycling half or full day to villages just outside of Hanoi, where you get the chance to see the peaceful countryside.
Cycle across the hills in mountainous northwestern Vietnam for a glorious mountain bike tour where endless green valleys, beautiful vistas and traditional clothing from the local tribes are mixed. Take the time to discover the interesting culture and history of this beautiful and hospitable indigenous population before you take your bike and cross the challenging terrain.
10. Ba Be Lake
The last in best destinations for cycling in Vietnam is the unknown Ba Be Lake. The lake and the national park are located in the north of Vietnam and are surrounded by a beautiful landscape with towering limestone mountains, lakes, caves, waterfalls, dense forests and deep valleys. Moreover, this national park is rich in hundreds of species of animals and plants. You can cycle wonderfully through the area and encounter local ethnic minorities.

Flavors of Vietnam
Take an active food tour by cycling to the culinary hotspots of Hoi An. Watch your food be prepared at a street stand, eat in a private home or sit down restaurant, and taste Vietnam’s varied and flavorful cuisine. Then back on your bike to pedal until you’re hungry again! Enjoy a Banh Mi sandwich in a crunchy baguette, or the savory and spicy broth and noodles of a traditional Pho. Sample local Vietnamese coffee and sweet treats during a break from cycling. The myriad of flavors in Vietnamese cuisine will leave you craving more!
As you ride into the rural villages of Vietnam, you may think you are cycling back in time. Watch the traditional ways of the hill tribes, or see for yourself the strength of the Vietnamese people who refuse to be defined by the violence they have endured not long ago. Pedal past fishing villages full of friendly faces, and visit traditional village industries such as rice paper making and mat weaving for a better sense of daily Vietnamese life. Join locals for a meal in their house and learn a few key phrases in Vietnamese to connect with people as you make your way through their country on two wheels.

Has been really good riding the Himalaya motorcycles- great bikes, enjoyed riding and experience the great scenery in Vietnam. My first time in Vietnam has been really great riding with you guys.
We didn’t have our license to ride out our own bike so we decide to do the Pillion ride which was awesome. It meant that we can see so much of the Vietnam country side. We went through a bunch of smaller towns. We had so much fun! The bikes are comfy and it is an awesome way to get from one place to the next. - Rosie
We got to meet some great people. The guides themselves are so knowledgeable about the country, its history, and everything about it, the food, the culture. We just learned a lot and just had a really good time. We can’t recommend it enough, it was great. Such a great time. - Alex
From the rat race and Chaos of the city streets to the unexpectedly scenic winding roads through the hills, every minute was fantastic.
A great ride up the Ho Chị Minh Trail. in the mix with concrete, cobblestone, hot mix, a few trails, history, mountain passes and memories. My son, 8 years old, loved the road trip—his first. Will always be memorable. Thanks Onyabike Adventures. See you again next year.
