When I tell you I had the time of my life on this tour. My husband and I ended up the only ones which was very cool. Our guide Peter was so great, patient, and enthusiastic. My God the wines…. My husband who formally claimed he wasn’t a fan of wine and didn’t like red left a different man! I swear he enjoyed it more than I did Haha All the wineries were lovely. The staff were awesome. We really enjoyed the scenic rides through the vineyards. 3 out of 4 vineyards were lovely to visit. I would just take out Josephs…not impressed and wines tasted off, but that’s just our opinion. Great tour, definitely recommend it! Our tour guide, Laura, was so accommodating so ask for her if you can. We were actually running behind schedule as our GO train was delayed and didn't get to the tour company's location until 30 minutes past our scheduled start time. We notified the tour guide we were running late and she was kind enough to wait on us and even offered to send someone out to find us. Laura was great in pointing out interesting landmarks and telling us stories about the town. She kept everything organized throughout the tour ensuring we were on schedule and offering to take plenty of pictures for us! We went to four boutique wineries - Riverview, De Simone, Pilliterri, and Between the Lines. There were 14 wine tastings in total and we were all getting tipsy by the end of the 3rd winery so it's def more than enough wine for the price paid! Riverview had a cheese and cracker pairing with the tasting, Pilliterri had a brief tour in front of the vineyard and wine cellar, and there was a blind tasting at De Simone. Our favourites at the end of the day were Riverview and De Simone. The wine tasting at De Simone was different in that the owner/winemaker, Vincenzo, hosts the tasting with us. For all other tastings, they were performed by employees at the winery. So it was a very personal and inspiring experience to talk with Vincenzo directly. While Between the Lines was more generous in pouring wine for the tasting, we were not very impressed by the taste of the wine (too strong and quite sour) and how the tasting seemed rushed. This is why I only gave 4 stars. It was glass after glass without really giving us time to appreciate the wine. So the tour didn't end on a high note for us.. but this is definitely not the tour company's fault as the tasting was hosted by the winery. While we were not fans of Between the Lines, other persons on the tour did like the winery so it's really a matter of personal preference.. All in all, highly recommend this winery van tour if you are looking for one in Niagara! Exceptional customer service!

We really enjoyed our wheel and wine tour... Really liked the fact they use the small boutique wineries rather than the typical larger ones. However I feel we could have gone to four instead of just three wineries. Maybe take out the tour and add a fourth winery for an additional tasting. James was out tour guide and he's definitely a personable and friendly. He gave us historic lessons of the area and took us through beautiful routes on the way and back from the wineries. It was very well paced and felt very relaxing! Bikes were in good condition, a basket would have been more helpful than the little pouches. Overall I would highly recommend this tour company...

Terrible company. They take your money and then stop responding to emails. We paid the extra $30 to have help planning our trip and the lady never contacted us. Waited and waited and all the wineries we wanted sold out. SCAM dont book with them.

Photo of Natalie L.

Great tour. We did the self guided bike tour which was a lot of fun. We upgraded our bikes to the colourful cruisers which come with a basket that looked great in picturs. Carrie was amazing from answering all my initial questions, to booking and day of. We were almost an hour late returning the bikes due to our last tasting booking. We called Carrie to let her know and she was nice enough to wait which was appreciated. I would recommend this tour.

Photo of Natalie M.

Wine tour was mediocre and unorganized. Our tour guide was pleasant but not very professional. She spent more time talking to the woman she knew in the front seat. We went to four wineries total in which two were Not good. The in depth tour consisted of a 5 minute speech given in a barn by a less than thrilled young man. The cheese pairing was not explained beyond which color cheese to eat with which wine :/ The way back took 2 hours to drop everyone off at their hotels. We went All over the place from Niagara Falls to niagara on the lake and back again. The tour guide let the group she knew off at a gas station to purchase snacks. Really? Everyone on the bus was frustrated and just wanted to make it back to their hotels for dinner. I would never do a tour with this many people or this company.

A GREAT Experience!!! John our guide was extremely knowledgeable and a lot of fun. We visited 4 wineries which gave us a variety of wines. No matter what you are looking for in a wine you will find it with this tour. Outstanding and couldn't have had more fun!!!

Photo of Lauren B.

My girlfriends and I booked a tour here as part of a birthday weekend getaway and I honestly can't think of anything that could have been better. We had a wonderful tour guide (ask for JOHN!) who was super knowledgeable and kind, and went well beyond what was necessary. It was the four of us in a 6 seater van, plus him up front. He asked us straight away what kinds of wines we preferred to make sure that everything matched up to what had been booked - we were easy, we just like wine - and said if it was okay, he was going to take us to smaller wineries, which we were thrilled about. In two instances we were hit with bits of trouble that John handled with seamless grace. At one tasting we had been booked later than expected, so he made sure we were taken for the next tour and given a small glass of wine outside in the sunshine while we waited. At the last winery, the winery was packed with a wedding plus regular customers and it would have been a good 45 minutes before they could take us, as they were backed up. He spoke to one of his friends on staff and managed to sneak us into a back room for a quick tasting between guests. It wasn't fancy, but he asked us and we much preferred it to sitting around. It was four tastings; two tastings were full tastings with explanation and educating, one was a full tasting plus tour of the winery and cheese pairing, and our last "sneak in" tasting between groups. We had some spare time at the end, so he drove us to a point that looked over the river valley, and then because we had been pointing out houses and commenting, took us on a little driving tour of his favourite houses! This was after he had been giving us a running commentary on what we were passing on the roads, when we would shut up long enough for him to get any words in. ;) We're already planning on coming back for our next girlfriend's birthday.

Photo of Andrew P.

This was so great - we did the tour + lunch package $99 CAD for four winery stops and lunch. They picked us up in a van, which was nice since we didn't have to drive and it was very cold and a little snowy. Each stop was nice, the lunch was very good, and the driver was so knowledgeable and engaging. He also noted that if we go again, they'll register which wineries we went to on this trip and go to different ones upon request. We will definitely do it again!

1) Second hand bike store would have better bikes than this company, my bike's front brake did not work 2) The seats are just nasty 3) They charged my buddies that came with there own bike for basically nothing since we did a serendipity tour(own on your with a map) 4) The map is not to scale and does not even show all the wineries included in the package 5) The chosen wineries are really not that great( consensus from 5 other folks) 6) It would probably be cheaper to go a bike tour with your own or rented bike instead of going with this company- 5 crappy wineries with 3 tasting in each one 6) They did not even ans the phone when I was lost 7) If you needed a ride back for some reason in the middle of the tour, you would have to wait till 4 pm for a pick up( that too only you get trough thier phone line) If you are really looking for a good time, choose another company.

Photo of Athena U.

I did the full day picnic lunch cycling tour that visits 4 wineries. Really fantastic day and made you realize just how amazing the NOL region is. You get to sample wine and give your purchases to the driver of the shuttle following you as you cycle. Price is reasonable and rate is per person. We brought our own bike gear so it was that much better and even more memorable.

Niagara is one of Canada and the USA’s most iconic regions. Of course, it’s best known as the home of North America’s largest waterfall – the mighty Niagara Falls . But that’s not all, as it’s also famous for being Canada’s top wine-producing region!

When I first moved to Canada, I didn’t realize how much of a wine-loving country it was. And, the country’s biggest wine region is actually Niagara, which is right next door to where I live in Toronto!

As I live nearby, I’ve had lots of time to explore the region, get to know the local wineries and taste many of Niagara’s wines. So, by now, I know what to look for in a good Niagara wine tour. And, to help you choose the right tour, I’ve put together my top 7 Niagara wine tours to take when visiting the region.

In the list I’ve included a mix of group and private tours to suit different interests and budgets, as well as tours on both the Canadian and American side of Niagara (as excellent wine is produced on both sides).

So, read on for everything you need to know about Niagara’s best winery tours!

This is actually my favourite tour on the list. The only reason it’s not ranked number 1 is because cycling may not appeal to all travellers. But, rest assured, the bike route isn’t difficult, taking you along easy, flat and safe (and scenic) trails and country roads.

Amazing wine tour with some exercise!

Niagara Winery FAQs

How many wineries are in niagara.

There are more than 50 wineries in Canada’s Niagara wine region. Around half of them are located in and around Niagara-on-the-Lake, on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. And there are also more than 20 wineries on the US side of the falls in Niagara County.

What time of year is best for Niagara wine tours?

The best time for Niagara wine tours is typically during the spring, summer, and early fall. The weather is most pleasant during these times, with long sunny days and warm temperatures. So this is the ideal time to explore the vineyards and the surrounding countryside.

However, later in the fall, from October to November, is also great time to visit Niagara, as the landscape lights up with some of the region’s most vibrant fall colours.

What type of wine is Niagara known for?

Niagara is best known for its production of Ice wine, a sweet dessert wine made from grapes harvested while frozen on the vine. The region also produces excellent cool-climate wine varieties such as Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc.

How does a wine tasting tour work?

During a Niagara wine tasting tour you will typically visit multiple wineries, where you’ll be guided through tastings of various wines by local wine consultants. They’ll teach you about the winemaking process, grape varietals, and flavour profiles while you sample a selection of wines.

Sometimes food, such as charcuterie or cheese pairings, will be included. And, certain tours may give you the option to stop at a local restaurant for lunch.

On Niagara wine tours, a local guide and transportation between wineries is also usually provided. And there will be an opportunity to purchase bottles of wine to take home.

How much time do you spend at each winery?

On most wine tours which include multiple stops, you’ll have around 45 minutes at each winery. However, this can sometimes be longer, if the stop is for a more comprehensive tasting, tour of the facilities, or even for lunch. And private tours can be customized to allow for longer or shorter stops, depending on your preferences.

What is ice wine?

Ice wine is a type of sweet dessert wine made from grapes that have been left to freeze naturally on the vine. This freezing process concentrates the sugars and flavours in the grapes, resulting in a rich, intensely sweet wine with a balanced acidity. It’s typically served chilled and is paired well with desserts.

Do you tip on wine tours?

Tipping on a wine tour is up to you, but is not usually expected. As most Niagara wine tours are booked and paid for in advance , you won’t actually have to pay anything on the day, unless you purchase bottles of wine or food during the tour.

For bottle purchases a tip is not expected. But for restaurant food eaten onsite, such as lunch, it’s customary to add a tip between 15% to 20% in Canada.

It can also be a nice gesture to provide a tip to your tour guide and driver. However, this is very much at your own discretion.

What do you wear to a wine tour in Niagara?

Most wineries in Niagara don’t have a specific dress code. I would recommend wearing comfortable clothes and shoes, as you will likely do a lot of standing throughout the day. And, if you’re going to be doing a bike wine tour , make sure you wear something you can easily cycle in.

What is the difference between Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake?

Niagara Falls is the small city and bustling tourist destination which is home to Niagara’s famous waterfall. Whereas Niagara-on-the-Lake is a small lakeside heritage community, often deemed the prettiest town in Ontario, known for its historic architecture, wineries, and theatres.

Niagara-on-the-Lake is only around 25-kilometres from Niagara Falls, and can be reached along the scenic Niagara Parkway. If you’ll be spending some time in the Niagara region, it’s absolutely worth visiting both Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake.

How old do you have to be to go on a Niagara wine tour?

You must be of legal drinking age to participate in a Niagara wine tour, which is 19 years old in Ontario.

A “classic” Niagara on the Lake wine tour was what we did. Basically, we jumped on a shuttle bus and were driven around to four different wineries. We also had time for lunch in the tiny town of Niagara on the Lake.

Overall, we really liked our tour – it was well-organized and enjoyable, and the wine was lovely. You can read about our tour in more detail at the bottom half of this post.

Niagara on the Lake Wine Tasting

If you’re a fan of cheese, this might be the tour for you. Set up as both a morning or an afternoon tour, this wine tasting takes a small group (capped at 15 people) to 4 wineries in the area to learn about and taste Ontario wines.

You receive multiple tastings at each of the wineries, and you’ll be walked through the wine-making process.

⇒ Check here for this Wine Tour

This tour is great because they showcase both a larger winery and smaller boutique wineries that are considered “hidden gems” in the growing wine region.

It should be noted that hotel pick-up from the town of Niagara on the Lake OR Niagara Falls is ONLY included in the price of the afternoon tour.

If you book the morning, you’ll just begin the tour when you meet the shuttle at the central meeting location that is confirmed with your guide!

The reviews overwhelmingly rave about the guides being friendly, knowledgeable, punctual, and detail-oriented. You’ll learn a lot about the history of the area, the food pairings, the famous Ontario Ice Wines (yum!), and the cheeses that go with your tastings.

They’ll go so far as to contact you ahead of time to confirm the pick-up spots and everything.

If you want a fool-proof tour around the region that checks off all the details and creates an overall great experience, have a look for yourself below!

Private “Build Your Own Itinerary” Niagara on the Lake Wine Tour

Got a day in Niagara with a small group and want to go the extra mile to make a truly unforgettable and personalized day in the region? Then this tour is for you.

From the upscale vehicle to the guide and driver catering to your needs – creating your own itinerary with a company is a way to go!

⇒  Check here to create your Private Wine Tour

You’ll be picked up from your hotel in Niagara on the Lake or Niagara Falls and be driven around to 5-7 wineries/venues.

Because the itinerary is yours to create with the help of your guide, you can even mix in one of the breweries, cideries, or whiskey distilleries in the area.

While the pickup in a private upscale vehicle is included, some of the tastings at the wineries are extra so be sure to discuss that with your guide.

The reviews of the experience are basically a bunch of people who are blown away at the value for money and the perfect day. The driver/guide even takes photos for you and emails them to you after the tour is over!

Wine Tasting With Biking Tour

If you want to get some exercise and enjoy the fresh air of the Niagara countryside, then a bicycle wine tour is for you! On this tour, you’ll bike to 4 or 5 wineries depending on if you go on the half-day or full-day tour.

The full-day tour begins in the morning but a picnic lunch is included in your price. You’ll head to a large winery to begin the day and stop off at a few smaller ones along the way.

⇒  Check here for a Wine Tour with Bicycles

The pace is leisurely and the groups are small so you can enjoy the ride between places.

The half-day tour leaves just after lunch and follows a similar circuit. The only difference is that instead of a lunch, you’re offered a delicious cheese platter as your food item on the tour.

Overall, your fees include hotel pick-up from the Niagara region, entrances, tastings at the wineries, the rental of the bike and helmet, and more. The reviews mention how kind, knowledgeable, and responsible the guides are.

Considering you’re biking around after having a few samples, safety is of the utmost importance and this tour delivers. The tour runs whether rain or shine!

Our Niagara On The Lake Wine Tour Experience

white shuttle bus behind red table umbrellas with green vineyard behind.

Since there are many wine tours to choose from, we went on one to be able to tell you exactly what it was like. We also went on a tour so that we could explore the region without worrying about who was driving!

The wine tour itself was run by Niagara Air Bus – a company that runs shuttles from Toronto to Niagara Falls and the surrounding airports.

Overall, we really liked our tour. Communication was quick and efficient and we knew which wineries to expect and everything.

If you want to learn more about the tour and/or booking process, you can check out our complete wine tour here .

Quick Note: The exact itinerary and wineries you visit this tour may shift and change based on seasonality, who is open or closed for renovations, and several other factors beyond control. Below is our experience at the wineries we visited that day.

What You’ll Need For This Wine Tour

wine bottles on the wooden shelves at ravine winery.

If you end up on this wine tour, here’s a short list of the things you should have with you to have a great experience. Many of these are weather dependent but in general:

  • Photo ID (we didn’t need it but good to have in case anyone asked)
  • Cash for a tip for the driver
  • A windbreaker jacket (in the spring or fall)
  • A water bottle

Niagara on the Lake Wine Tour Itinerary

To give you a better idea of exactly what we experienced on our wine tour in Niagara on the Lake, here are the details from pick-up to the wineries we visited!

The tour is advertised as a “half-day” with either a morning or afternoon slot but honestly, our tour was closer to 6 hours long!

That said, it didn’t feel too long and it certainly wasn’t rushed. We really got to enjoy the drives, the tours, and the wines!

Pick-up/Drop-off

In the morning, we had a confirmed time window of about 20 minutes that the driver would pick us up at our Inn in Niagara Falls. We stayed at A Moment in Time Bed and Breakfast in case you were curious. (It was lovely!)

As expected, the driver was there right on time. He was friendly and organized as he drove around Niagara Falls to pick up the other wine tour-goers. Communication with Air Bus was actually really good with multiple emails confirming details before the date.

At the end of the day, the driver dropped everyone off at their accommodations again. It was nice to be dropped off at the B&B because we were exhausted from the long (but awesome) day.

Winery #1 – Ravine Vineyard Estates Winery

white cottage building with green tree in front at winery.

After a short drive from downtown Niagara Falls, we got to Ravine Estate Winery for our first tasting! We have friends and family who love Ravine so we were eager to get inside and get tasting.

wine tumblers on bar with wine menu beside.

Ravine is a smaller family-run winery and the experience did NOT disappoint. While we had no tour of the winery itself, the wine steward went through their whole wine list and we got to choose any three wines to sample.

We really liked this style because it was different from the other wineries we would visit later in the day.

Usually, wineries give you three pre-determined wines to sample. It’s a fine way to do it, but Ravine gave you choice which we enjoyed!

green vineyard with wooden barrels in front at ravine winery.

We then grabbed a bottle of what we liked, wandered around inside their shop, and hopped back in the shuttle once we were done with our time slot.

Overall, Ravine was a great first stop and the group actually got closer… blame the wine!

Winery #2 – Pillitteri Estates Winery

white exterior road sign to pillitteri winery in niagara on the lake.

After a short drive, we ended up at Pillitteri Estate Winery. The guide pulled up, we got out and entered the main building. Pillitteri has a long history that we won’t get into here but it is fascinating.

red roof wine barn at roadside in niagara on the lake.

The reason we know about the history of Pillitteri is that our stop at Pillitteri included a tasting AND a tour with a live guide (provided by Pillitteri). Our driver did a great job of making sure we were in the right place.

glass cases full of bottles and medals at pillitteri estate winery.

When you start the tour, you get hit with the fact that Pillitteri has won many, many awards over the years for their wines – especially ice wines. Their winery functions more like a complex than a small family-run winery like Ravine but it’s still very well done.

large long table with hanging lights in concrete room.

Overall, the tour guide was great – we got to see the grounds and the wine cellars where they store the red wine (and the fancy tasting table rarely used).

We then went for a tasting where we had a red, white, and ice wine – all of which were pretty good. We didn’t buy a bottle here but others did!

Lunch in Niagara-on-the-Lake

red trolley in front of old hotel with gardens.

After Pillitteri, we were driven to Niagara on the Lake (the actual historic town) and had an hour for lunch.

Our driver dropped us off in the coach parking (since buses aren’t allowed to stop downtown). You can take a smaller bus to the town centre but we walked because it’s just down the road.

Since this was a lunch stop and we knew we would come back to explore the town the next day on our own, we didn’t play tourist this time. We just went to find a great lunch.

There were many places to check out – patios with pub food and smaller shops here and there.

colourful gardens in front of shop entrance with sidewalk behind.

The main street of Niagara on the Lake is loaded with shops, stores, ice cream places, and historic sites.

We have a whole post on what to do in Niagara on the Lake (coming soon) if you are spending more time there while exploring the region!

Winery #3 – Inniskillin

wine building with patio in front seen through vineyard vines.

Known to be “Canada’s original estate winery”, Inniskillin is certainly one of the heavy hitters in the area. They are credited with putting Canadian Ice Wine on the international map – and their dedication to ice wine shows when you visit.

green vineyard rows in field with sky and hills behind.

As per usual, our driver made sure we got on the tour and then actually came on the tour with us (run by Inniskillin).

The guide was super passionate about wine and his work at Inniskillin – and the tour was really, really good. They are a BIG production and they have the credentials to back it up!

wooden table with wooden barrels stacked behind in concrete room.

One of the coolest parts was the wine cellar where they have events and store their older and rarer vintages. The whole experience at Inniskillin was wonderful.

wine glasses in front of ice wine bottles on counter at inniskillin winery.

Of course, we got to the end of the tour and back in the tasting room to sample a red, a white, their famous ice wine, and a sparkling ice wine! The ice wine was good – it was very thick and syrupy.

If you have never had ice wine, you should know that it’s very, very sweet (and not for everyone – Lisa enjoyed it a lot more than Eric!).

Overall, the stop at Inniskillin was great – and they have a large outdoor seating area for photos and relaxing.

Winery #4 – Reif Estates Winery

girl in front of winery entrance beside fountain in niagara on the lake.

Last, but certainly not least, we took a very short bus ride from Inniskillin to Reif. They are basically down the road from one another so it was an easy drive.

We got off, snapped a few photos, and our driver made sure we were in the right place one last time.

wine bottles on wooden shelves in reif winery.

Reif was founded by a German so hearing the backstory from the wine steward was really cool. While there was no tour included at Reif, we DID get a private tasting in a smaller, quiet room.

This really added to the experience since everyone else was tasting in the main shop where we had just come from.

ice wine in glass with bottle behind on bar top.

Tasting at the main bar would have been fine but the private room made it extra special. We sampled a white, red, and their ice wine, and – honestly – we almost liked their ice wine more than the more famous one from Inniskillin!

Both were good – and it comes down to preference. We finished up tasting, browsed the shop, and headed for the shuttle to take us home!

A trip to Niagara Falls isn’t complete unless you’ve included a visit to Ontario’s famous wine region in Niagara-on-the-Lake and along the Niagara escarpment.  Wine is the liquid currency here that is worth its weight in those heavy cases of bottles and it would be a shame if you didn’t do one of the guided Niagara Falls wine tours.

Whether you’re coming as a day trip or spending a weekend getaway staying in one of the charming properties along Queen Street, you have to include one of these winery tours in your itinerary.  You’ll learn about the origin story of ice wine, go behind-the-scenes in the wine-making process, and discover the secrets to food pairings.  To help you out, here’s a list of the top 15 tours to consider that give you a mix from ones that include meals, to those looking to cycle, and more!

  • If you’re thinking about Niagara-on-the-Lake, my pick is the Prince of Wales Hotel its historic heritage and prime location along the main strip.  For Niagara Falls, a visitor favourite is Hilton Niagara Falls as it’s connected to the casino but night right on top so you get the convenience without the craziness.

peller estates is one of the wineries included in the best niagara falls wine tours

If you’re skeptical, I can totally relate.  It’s no secret where the wineries are located near Niagara Falls.  If you have a car or are renting a car (and saving money with car rental coupon codes ), then why would you want to book a tour?

Here are the reasons why you would want to book a Niagara wine tour:

  • You won’t need a designated driver (DD).
  • You’re running a special event (bachelor/bachelorette party, wedding party, family excursion).
  • You want a guided experience so you learn more about Ontario wines whether you’re a connoisseur or enthusiast.
  • You prefer structured experiences to ensure you make the most of your limited time in Niagara Falls.
  • You couldn’t be bothered to plan and book the tours and food pairing experiences.

If it’s your first time going on a wine tour, there are a couple of tips to make sure you have an amazing time.

  • It goes without saying but be prepared to drink!
  • In all seriousness, that means to make sure you eat a proper breakfast or lunch before you head out especially if your tour doesn’t include a meal.
  • Set the right expectations.  Even if pairings are included, don’t expect this to be an unlimited feast.
  • Be considerate to your other tour mates whether it’s overall etiquette on the bus or during the tour, or during tastings (i.e. don’t hog all the food).
  • Think about what you want to buy.  If you’re from outside of Canada, know what your import limits are back to your country (i.e. wine duty exemptions for the US ).  Also, it’s just a good idea to know how much wine you already have at home and what your soft or hard limit is on budget and how many bottles you want to bring back home.
  • Don’t expect to drive after your wine tour so plan your itinerary accordingly.

Niagara-on-the-Lake wine tour with cheese pairing

niagara falls wine tour with cheese pairings

This tour is the classic Niagara Falls wine tour that’s perfect for those staying by the Falls and want to head to Niagara-on-the-Lake (NOTL) for half a day.  With this guided, small-group tour, you’ll be able to sample a variety of wines, including Ontario’s famous ice wine, and also pair it with cheese.  You’ll also learn why NOTL is a perfect region for grapes and how it compares with Napa .

With these types of tours, you normally get one full winery tour and this usually happens at either Konzelmann Estate Winery or Jackson-Triggs.  At the other vineyards, the focus is mainly the tasting.

One guest said:

We had marvellous personal attention as we visited several wineries throughout the Niagara Falls/Lake Region. All the winery hosts knew our tour guide, which facilitated our tours significantly, as we always felt like “insiders” throughout the day’s visits. Would highly recommend.

While the wineries may change, here are the locations that you can expect:

  • Wineries – Palatine Hills Estate Winery (interchangeable with Jackson-Triggs), Konzelmann Estate Winery, Marynissen Estates Winery, and Pondview Estate Winery
  • Cheese pairing – Pondview Estate Winery although some of the other wineries have started to offer pairings as well

This is s unique wine tour that not only includes 3 wineries but in addition gives the opportunity to visit the 10 Below Icewine Lounge at Peller Estates and a chocolate factory to wrap it all up.  This is the only guided group tour that includes the icewine lounge.

A recent guest said:

I really enjoyed the whole experience of the wine tour. The wineries were really beautiful, especially the Ice wine lounge – that is a must see! I expected to love the wineries, and tasting, however was extremely pleased with the tour guide John McKinnon, who told us many interesting stories, made stops on the way for us to see the breathtaking views more up-close, didn’t mind taking pictures of us, recommended where to eat, and was hilarious! We had a blast! I recommend this to everyone coming to Niagara! Thank you.

Private winery tour of Niagara-on-the-Lake

notl private wine tour

This is a private tour for you and your group that takes you to 6 wineries in the Niagara-on-the-Lake region.

The advantage of a private tour is that you can adjust it to your interests and speed.  For instance, if you’re interested in photography, your driver and guide can make suggestions and help with photo taking.  Perhaps you’re interested in specific types of wines.  Your guide can adjust the itinerary to include different wineries from the standard 6.

In addition to the wineries, you’ll also get to visit the Queens Royal Park, the Gorge Lookout, Queenston Heights Park, and the Floral Clock.  This means that this tour is more of a complete tour of NOTL and perfect for those that are short on time and want to see as much as they can.

One thing to keep in mind is that tastings and food are not included.  You can make a special request for a picnic but this will be at an extra cost.

Canadian wine – see it, sip it, love it….

When we travel, we always go where the glass is half full. Of our favorite wine. In Niagara-on-the-Lake. Now that fall’s almost here, there’s always a wine tasting available – and a cute little B&B or inn nearby if you have time to spend the weekend. Talk about the perfect girlfriend getaway.

If you’re a wine-tour groupie like us, we’ve got the 411 on planning a customized wine tour and tasting in Niagara.

a sampling of Pondview Estate's award winner

Grab your maps and choose your wineries

With almost 100 wineries in the Niagara region, you’ll have to employ strategic thinking when planning your route. Marcel offers the following tips for making the most of your wine tour. Just remember to designate a sober driver – or take a bus tour or hire a taxi – for your adventures.

  • Plot your approach. You’ll find free maps of the Niagara-on-the-Lake wine region in almost every local winery and hotel as well as online at NOLWineries.com . Allow enough time at each winery and time between wineries – this kind of bliss should not be rushed.
  • Tour by bike. Biking is a great way to travel between wineries and enjoy the scenic countryside. Whether you plan on bringing your own bike or renting from a local bike shop, it’s ideal for getting around the Four Mile Creek appellation where there are bike paths and wide shoulders designed for rider safety.

there's always time for wine ...

  • Tour the actual winery. Plan to visit more than just the tasting room. Many wineries offer private tours of the facilities or grounds.
  • Get your wine home. Don’t let your wine purchases weigh you down. Ask the winery if you can pick up your bottles at the end of the day – or take note of the wine you want to purchase and return to get it later. Some smaller wineries may even deliver within Niagara-on-the-Lake, so be sure to ask about your options.
