Medina (born November 3, 1982) is the stage and recording name of Danish electro-pop singer Andrea Valbak, hailing from Aarhus, Denmark.
Valbak’s early music releases in Denmark were a couple of single releases “Flå” (Rip) and “Et øjeblik” (One moment) released in 2007. However these failed to attract much public or critical attention much like Valbak’s debut album “Tæt På” (Up close) released in September of that year. The album was produced by two Danish production teams the Copenhaniacs and Providers and features guest appearances from Joe True and Joey Moe.
The singer’s breakthrough came in 2008 with the release of her single “Kun for mig” (later released in English as “You and I”) which spent 52 weeks in the Danish Singles Chart and ultimately achieved triple-platinum status. The song proved to be the lead single from her sophomore full-length album “Velkommen util Medina” (Welcome to Medina), which performed well in the Danish album chart along with the German, Austrian and Swiss charts. Valbak subsequently released the singles “Velkommen util Medina”, “Ensom” (Lonely) and “Vi to” (The two of us).
Following the release of the English version of “Kun for mig” “You and I”, Valbak featured on the track “100 dage” and Burhan G’s single “Mest ondt” both of which reached the top spot in the Danish chart.
With her chart and commercial success, Valbak has earned herself a number of awards including two Best Danish Act awards at the 2009 and 2011 MTV Europe Music Awards and six awards at the Danish Music Awards including Danish Female Artist of the Year, Album of the Year and Danish Songwriter of the Year. In 2011 Valbak released the album “For algid” featuring the tracks “Synd for dig” and “Kl. 10” and saw an English-language equivalent release with the title “Forever” in 2012. Subsequently the singer released the EP “Arrogant” in 2014, with a more urban and hip hop focus and was produced by the Danish production team of Pitchshifters.
Live reviews
Medina stands center stage, alone except for the microphone and a pianist, surrounded by lit candles. She sways gently, the flickering candlelight catching on her gold earrings, illuminating her face, and creating an eerie, sombre ambience. As she sways, the pianist picks up a flowing melody, and then she sings. Her voice blocks out all other sound, singular and haunting, enveloping the spellbound crowd.
Danish R&B and pop singer songwriter Medina Danielle Oona Valbak has released seven albums, five in Danish and two in English. Her debut album, Tæt på, and first two singles, “Et øjeblik” and “ Flå” were released in Denmark, and her the hit single “Kun for mig”, off of her second album Velkommen til Medina, was number one on the Danish Singles Chart. It was that song which secured her national fame. Her obvious skill has been rewarded with a platinum award and multiple hit singles ranked No.1 or No.2. in her home-country
Medina never disappoints. Whether she sings in English or Danish, whether you understand the lyrics or you don't, the meaning of every song is translated through the music and Medina's obvious passion. Her moving songs, passionate facial expressions, and obvious joy onstage are contagious and combine to form an unforgettable and completely enjoyable night.

We were in Denmark for holiday and we took the chance to see Medina again (last time was a few years ago in Hamburg). It was fantastic! Wonderful voice and the acoustic versions are absolutely great. Compliments also for the band and the opening artist. Now I have to learn the danish language :-)

Our Coverage of the 2024 Oscars
The 96th academy awards were presented on march 10 in los angeles..
Our Critics’ Take: The Oscars were torn between the golden past and the thorny present. But to our critics Manohla Dargis and Alissa Wilkinson, the show mostly worked .
A ‘Just Ken’ Spectacle: In one of the most anticipated and exuberant moments of Oscar night , Ryan Gosling took the stage to perform “ I’m Just Ken ” from “Barbie.”
Cillian Murphy’s Career: If you’re looking to expand your knowledge of the Irish actor’s work after his now Oscar-winning performance as the physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, here are some excellent options .
Bro-Brooches: This year, several male stars wore baubles more often associated with granny’s jewel box than Hollywood heartthrobs.
Inside the After Parties: Here’s what we saw at the Governors Ball and Vanity Fair’s party , where the famous (and the fame-adjacent) celebrated into the night.

About Oscar Medina
Oscar Medina is a Christian singer/songwriter and producer. His recordings have become a staple in Latin American community worship circles. One of 13 siblings, he was born and raised in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico, surrounded by a large family of musicians and singers. His parents instilled in him a love of music and encouraged him to participate in local singing and performing events that were -- and remain -- plentiful in the region's Latin American community. They also introduced him to local radio and television. In 1975, when Oscar was 13 years old, the Medina family immigrated to the United States. That same year, almost the entire family converted to evangelical Christianity. In 1980, at age 18, Medina wrote his first Christian song, "The Day I Came to Him." Oscar and his siblings Gilberto, Enrique, Martín, Patricia, and Elvia formed the group Los Hermanos Medina, touring the American Southwest and Northern Mexico from 1980-1985. They recorded two albums, Hermanos Medina and Tesoros. During the band's run, Medina became a prolific songwriter, penning more than 200 songs, some of which were picked up and recorded by other artists. After deciding on a solo career, he issued his debut album, Corazones de Piedra, in 1985. After hard touring and more writing, he formed his own Sembrador Producciones Inc., which released all of his albums since 1989's El Poder de la Oración. Latin Christian radio embraced Medina's music, and his concerts and recordings did well. Churches even began adapting some of his songs. El Amor Llegó followed in 1992. Beginning with 1993's Si Tienes Fe, Medina began releasing a new album every two years with a tour in between. Other recordings from the 20th century included Hermano Mío, Camina Conmigo Jesus, and No Andarás en Soledad. As Medina's reputation continued to spread, his music became a standard-bearer on Christian radio and television throughout Ibero-America. As the 21st century and social media emerged, his outreach increased; the videos he has released on YouTube alone have garnered over five and a half million views. Recordings have continued during the 21st century, but they have taken a back seat to his constant touring and performances under his own name and with prestigious organizations such as the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, the NACIE Convention, the Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship, and many more. His own evangelistic Concerts for Peace have attracted hundreds of thousands, becoming important gospel outreach projects and fundraisers for dozens of humanitarian causes and churches in need. In 2002 he released the chart-topping Ahora Es el Tiempo, followed by the audio/video document Marinero a year later. Medina's music spread to all over South America and he performed there on numerous concert tours. He released Pensando en Ti in 2008, and spent nearly a decade touring and working in ministry. After an eight-year silence, he emerged not with his own album but a duet appearance on Karina Moreno's single "Juntos" in 2016. ~ Thom Jurek
