Salcombe Gin Distillery

Ionaā€™s exciting collaboration with Salcombe Gin

Weā€™re collaborating with award-winning gin distiller, Salcombe Gin, to create exclusive gins on Iona! Infused with the rich fruit-trading heritage of the beautiful coastal town of Salcombe, Salcombe Gin shares our zest for adventure and discovering new and exciting flavours. Together, weā€™re creating a gin recipe thatā€™s tailored to the bold and daring spirit of Iona.

The very first distillery at sea

The gins maiden production will take place in Ionaā€™s custom-made still; innovated by Craft Distilling Business, this is the first still to exist at sea. The unique gin will be distilled, bottled and labelled on board, allowing Ionaā€™s guests to be the first to enjoy our deliciously smooth and one-of-a-kind gin.

A beautifully balanced recipe

Ready your senses for the taste-tingling flavours of a classic yet unrivalled gin and tonic. Or maybe you fancy our gin recipe in a beautifully created cocktail? Bottles of our exclusive gin can even be purchased on Ionaā€”the perfect gift to share (or maybe not share!) back home.

Celebrate your journey with a unique gin

Following the ginā€™s launch on Iona, Salcombe Gin will distil our recipe in their striking 450 litre copper still ā€˜Providentā€™ in Salcombe, ready to share and serve across our ships. This special recipe is made exclusively for P&O Cruises. And we arenā€™t stopping there. Weā€™re also working with Salcombe Gin to develop limited-edition gins that celebrate the places you experience and connect with on a P&O Cruises holiday. Let the gin-making adventure begin.

Headliners Theatre

Headliners Theatre is perfect for a fun-filled night out on board. Classic yet contemporary, it offers a sleek and sophisticated theatre experience. Plush, comfortable seating and the latest LED technology deliver the ā€˜wowā€™ factor, while a two-deck-high auditorium on decks 6 and 7 ensures everyone has the best view in the house.

Ocean Studios

The whole family will love an outing to Ocean Studios. Our four-screen cinema complex offers a warm welcome, comfortable seating and a premium cinema experience. With screenings throughout the day, thereā€™s always an option to see an age-appropriate blockbuster or family classic ā€“ complete with popcorn, ice cream and snacks, of course.

A place to immerse yourself in the seductive sounds of an array of musical genres that have inspired musical director Gary Barlow over the years, The 710 Club on Iona is a sophisticated bar crafted to Garyā€™s creative vision.

Atmospheric and low-lit, The 710 Club will serve up live music from resident band The 710s with an unmistakably vintage vibe, stylish cocktails and the most important ingredient of all; a little escapism, to ensure the good times continue long into the night.

The Limelight Club

Get cosy beneath the intimate low lighting of The Limelight Club and prepare yourself for a show-stopper of an evening at this ticketed event exclusively for adults. Feast your senses on entertainment provided by some of Britainā€™s best-loved performers and relish in a three-course culinary experience thatā€™ll have your taste-buds tingling.

The Club House

Everyone will love the daytime entertainment on offer at this bright and spacious venue, from guest speakers to live music, family entertainment and game shows. When the lights go down at night, get ready to party with DJ nights, comedians and great music from our resident band Pulse.

Not only home to daytime relaxing by the pool, bespoke and exclusive aerial shows, guest DJ sets and more, SkyDome also hosts IGNITE ā€“ our upbeat party-starter with a DJ set produced by Alex James, laser show and live music.

SkyDome offers a relaxed, poolside environment by day, with tantalising dining and drinking options. In the evening, the space seamlessly transitions into a must-visit entertainment venue, showcasing spectacular aerialist displays and hosting live performances and DJ party nights under the stars.

Kick off your holiday with IGNITE! Watch as SkyDome lights up under the night sky with laser shows, a killer DJ set producedby Alex James, and live music for you to dance the night away. This upbeat venue is the perfect place to get into the holiday mood.

Aerial Shows

Weā€™re collaborating with international entertainment company Creativiva ā€“ specialists in aerial stunts, acrobatic acts, unique sets, elaborate costumes, avant-garde storytelling and more. Weā€™ll have bespoke live shows in SkyDome and the Grand Atrium.

Eyes will widen. Gasps will sound. Attention will be rapt. This is the power of Creativiva.

Brand new for P&O Cruises, weā€™re working with international entertainment company, Creativiva to offer something completely different for Iona. Weā€™ve bespoke Creativiva-original shows coming to SkyDome and the Grand Atrium. Youā€™ll find yourself transported to another world; filled with acrobatics, aerial acts, physical theatre, dance, music... not to mention flamboyant costumes, impressive sets and much, much more.

Holiday on Iona and beyond the bands, the theatre shows and the cinema, youā€™ll find a brand-new immersive experience. Will you wander into the aviary? The Arena of Time? Or perhaps stumble upon two officers lost in a daydream... Lose yourself in a different world; one where acrobats descend from the rooftops, fly through the air, whirl in blurring rings, tie themselves in knots, balance beyond the realms of possibility and leave you spellbound in their midst.

If youā€™ve ever wanted to dive into the culture of the Vikings or explore what makes people in the Nordic region the so-called happiest on earth, you could do a lot worse than book a Scandinavian cruise.

Scandinaviaā€”and Norway in particularā€”is an expensive place to travel around, so a cruise can make financial sense for those seeking an introduction to the region. For one price, you get your travel, accommodation, meals, and entertainment covered.

Such a trip offers the opportunity to sample various Scandinavian travel highlights , whether you prefer the Scandinavian capitals, the stunning Norwegian fjords, or soaking up the atmosphere of beautiful islands and historic ports in the Baltic Sea.

Popular Scandinavian Cruise Itineraries

Many different types of itinerary can be advertised as Scandinavian cruises. Typically, they focus on the Nordic capital cities. Some may also include the highlights of the Baltic Sea region, including the Baltic countries and ports in the north of Germany and Poland.

With popular Norwegian fjords cruises together with midnight sun and northern lights tours to the north of Norway also available, there is a lot of diversity in Scandinavian cruises.

Scandinavian Capitals : Cruise itineraries starting in the U.K. or Germany and calling in at two or even all three of Oslo, Stockholm, and Copenhagen have long been popular.

The Nyhavn district of Copenhagen, Denmark, is a popular destination for cruise ship passengers ... [+] visiting Scandinavia.

Helsinki is often included on such itineraries. If you want to explore modern Scandinavia while gaining access to some of the regionā€™s best museums, such an itinerary is a perfect choice.

Such itineraries tend to be shorter, and are a great introduction to both cruising and Scandinavia, with limited sea days and plenty to see and do while in port.

Baltic Sea : Longer Scandinavian itineraries often include stops at Baltic Sea islands and ports. The beautiful Estonian capital city, Tallinn, or the Latvian capital, Riga, are particular highlights, as are ports on the northern coastline of Germany and Poland.

For those interested in Viking history, look out for smaller ship itineraries featuring Visby on the wonderful island of Gotland .

One such trip is this 12-night itinerary from Celebrity Cruises, which includes a visit to both Visby and Tallinn. Other highlights include a visit to Stockholm and Copenhagen, including an overnight stop in the latter.

The old city walls of Visby on Gotland island, a popular cruise port.

Norwegian Fjords : By far the most variety can be found in the Norwegian fjords region , with almost all major cruise lines operating at least some itineraries here. Although port calls in FlĆ„m and Geiranger will soon be severely limited, many alternative ports will still be able to welcome some of the worldā€™s largest cruise ships.

Whether you prefer the action-packed ships of Royal Caribbean or MSC, or the smaller ships that can sail along narrower fjords, there will be a Norwegian fjords itinerary for you.

Following the recent rise in popularity of the region as a cruising destination, the fjords season has extended, with trips available as early as April and as late as September.

British line P&O Cruises operates its relatively new megaship Iona in the fjords region for much of that period, with regular departures from Southampton on a popular 7-day itinerary.

Midnight Sun : Although all summer cruises in the region will experience long summer days, specific midnight sun itineraries set sail for the far north of Norway to let guests experience the thrill of being outside with the sun in the sky at midnight. Many of these trips visit HonningsvƄg, which allows guests to travel by bus to the North Cape.

Northern Lights : In recent years, Scandinaviaā€”or more specifically Norwayā€”has become a year-round cruising destination thanks to the growth in popularity of northern lights cruises .

Aurora borealis in the sky seen from a cruise ship in Arctic Norway.

These itineraries can be found heading north of the Arctic Circle between October and early April.

Planning Tips For Scandinavian Cruises

Cruising in Northern Europe offers a fantastic variety of excursions and experiences, from historical city tours to adrenaline-filled outdoor adventures.

The regionā€™s love of the outdoors lifestyle means active experiences are easy to find, both through cruise line excursions and independent operators.

The high levels of English comprehension across the region means booking your own activities and exploring ports independently is much easier than in many other parts of the world. Even so, look for independent tours that take place earlier in the day to reduce any time-related risk.

No matter when you visit Scandinavia, pack for all weathers. The height of summer can be marred by heavy rainfall, while itā€™s possible to get sunburnt in the snow-covered conditions of February and March.

Pack a versatile wardrobe. Layered clothing accommodates the region's variable weather, while specialized gear might be necessary for specific excursions.

Cruising And Sustainability

Prospective travelers should be aware of environmental concerns associated with cruising in this pristine region. The industry is moving towards sustainability, with initiatives to introduce zero-emission vessels in sensitive areas, particularly the UNESCO-listed Norwegian fjords .

Some local initiatives protesting against cruise travel have also gathered momentum, so cruisers should be aware of these issues before setting foot ashore.

On My Holiday, on your phone or tablet. Do it quickly though, as all performances apart from a couple of the 00:15 ones were booked up within the first couple of days when we were on Arvia last month.

Thanks

Same on Iona, we only managed to get 2 booked and we did it immediately we got onboard via the app.

They did have podiums set up for non smart phone users but there were long queues for them.

Chances are as they is no cost to book, only half the people will turn up, so worth going by and theyā€™ve been letting people queue on standby.

they really need to stop allowing unlimited booking for the small venues like this as people just book speculatively and then donā€™t care if they decide not to go.

majortom10

Didn't know there was a 710 club on Iona only Arvia.

We'll have just looked at a deck plan and there is a 710 Club but there is no mention of it in MyPOCruises.

It was there in November bookable on the app on IonaĀ

Nor for us in January; only available on My Holiday once on board.Ā  I understand there is a way to log on whilst waiting in the departure lounge, if you are that desperate.Ā

I am not desperate just didn't think there was a 710 Club on Iona with there being mention of it. Thought it was just on Arvia until I checked deck plan and found it on Iona.

We'll, if you really want me to explain myself; I meant to quote the two of you - the OP because they asked the original question, and you because you made reference to the app. But I hadn't done it correctly.

Don't worry, it's not a conspiracy you know. šŸ¤

We'll see if we can manage to book one or two when we're on Iona in June.

What times are the performances in 710 club on Iona?Ā  is there more than one performance per night?

At least 3 performances.

On 2/14/2023 at 7:15 PM, rattla said: Chances are as they is no cost to book, only half the people will turn up, so worth going by and theyā€™ve been letting people queue on standby.

On my last cruise on Iona I visited the 710 club a dozen times (having pre-booked) and they only occasionally let in a couple of people on the early performance from the standby queue, and on the middle performance then atĀ most six or eight people, so I would say that most of the people booking for those two performances do turn up.

It is the late midnight performance where there are a lot of no-shows as people get tired and decide not to bother.

We were unable to pre-book any 710 on arrival to the ship (and we had an early check in) but itā€™s quite a small venue and worth going to see a few shows, so itā€™s worth making the effort. There were often slots at 12.15 bookable on the day, and the occasional cancellation slots appeared. We got in quite easily just walking up and asking for a 7.15.

itā€™s the best venue on the fleet in my opinion.

P&O Cruises' Britannia sets sail after extensive refurbishment

CruiseMapper logo

P&O Cruises UK 's flagship Britannia left from Southampton on April 21st following an extensive multimillion drydock refurbishment .

The company recently announced that Britannia will be featured in its travel agent ship visit schedule, offering 3 opportunities for visits.

Completed earlier this month, the refurb prepares the vessel for its upcoming 10th-anniversary celebration cruise on June 6, 2025.

The upgrades encompass various areas of the ship, including public spaces, all staterooms, as well as an extension of the loyalty desk and cruise sales area. Additionally, enhancements have been made to the Market Cafe, and a substantial investment has been allocated for crew areas. The children's splash area has been revamped with interactive water features. Furthermore, the capacity of the Sunset Bar has been increased with extra seating, incorporating design elements from P&O UK's newest ships ( Iona and Arvia ).

Paul Ludlow (the company's President and CEO) said Britannia was their flagship, and with her 10th anniversary celebration cruise next summer they knew the importance of ensuring the vessel looked "its absolute best to deliver an elevated experience" for their new and loyal guests.
