Set in a private woodland glade in our award-winning holiday park in the Lake District, these unique safari tents are fully self-sufficient with a built in deck. Sit out on the comfy furniture for al fresco drinks and dining. You’ll be placed in the lap of nature. Don’t be at all surprised to see deer casually wandering past, or red squirrels chasing each other up and down the trees next to your tent! Luxury Glamping in The Lake District

Our spacious Safari Tents in Cumbria contain one double bedroom and a second bedroom with four adult sized single bunks. There is also a bathroom with shower, kitchen and dining area.

The safari tents are located just a short distance from Ambleside and Windermere – the setting of the classic Swallows and Amazons. You will be in the perfect location to explore the most beautiful part of the National Park.

Both safari tents can accommodate a maximum of 6 adults.

Our glamping Safari Tents can be booked online for a minimum stay of 3 nights. Bookings can be made for arrival on Mondays or Fridays for anything up to a week.

We calculate the cost of your stay based upon the calendar of seasons shown below. Additionally, the longer you stay, the cheaper the nightly rate.

• 7 night stays, arrival on Monday or Friday.
• 3 night Weekend stays, arrival on Friday.
• 4 night mid-week stays, arrival on Monday.

Our Safari Tents tariff and prices are subject to seasonal change, the days of the week being booked and the duration of the booking being made. This makes it difficult to provide an accurate per-night tariff. Below are some examples to give an idea of costs.

• 7 nights in LOW season (green on calendar): £962.50
• 3 nights on the weekend in HIGH season (orange on calendar): £632.75
• 4 nights mid-week at the start of July: £481.25

Please note that we can only accept assistance dogs in our Safari Tents. Unfortunately no other pets will be permitted.

Please be aware that the Safari Tents are constructed from canvas. As such they may become a little chilly at night during the colder times of year. We advise that you wrap up warm at night for bookings early and late in the season!

On the day of your departure, we politely request that you strip your beds. The mattress and pillow protectors may be left in place as we will collect these for cleaning separately.

At Low Wray you can choose from camping pods, safari tents, there is space for campervans and even two suspended tree tents.

Facilities at the site include a shop, three toilet and shower blocks, laundry facilities and washing-up areas.

Five safari tents are tucked away in the woodland area of the campsite. With wooden decking you can sit and enjoy your surroundings.

The tents are fully furnished and have a wood burner and a gas cooking stove. They sleep up to 6 people with screened compartments.

Windermere (Ready Camp)

The safari tents themselves have everything you need. Bedecked with a luxury interior, they include beds for up to six people, sofas, dining furniture and a handy kitchenette with cooking hobs, fridge and microwave. Each has private parking and a large amount of space around it, where you can play ball games or sit in the sun, peeping over the drystone walls to the countryside beyond.

Facilities are excellent too. While the tents are well equipped, their location within a larger campsite means you also have access to top-notch ablutions with the likes of a drying room – for airing out your post-climbing footwear – and an onsite shop with daily newspapers. Next door to reception there’s even an onsite pub – pop your nose in for a chat before you head out or have a browse of the information boards. There’s plenty of friendly advice to be found.

It’s a pleasant mile and a half walk to Stavely or drive to Windermere town and make the 20-minute stroll up through the woods to Orrest Head (784ft). The views in every direction are worth the clamber and those looking for more intrepid climbs will see the taller peaks poking up in the north – Stony Cove Pike, Red Screes, Helvellyn, the Langdale Pikes, Bowfell – these famous and more challenging routes are all within an easy half hours drive.

Little known but worth a mention is the most local village, Stavely, a short and pleasant walk from the site. There is a micro brewery (01539 825260) in the centre and an artisan bakery (01539 822297). By Windermere itself visit what is arguably the most beautiful private house in the Lake District, Blackwell (01539 446139), or for a more diverse range of family fun try The World of Beatrix Potter (08445 041233), bringing her tales to life as well as giving a little more info about the author. On the water try Windermere Lake Cruises (01539 443360) or avoid the touristy vibe by hiring your own kayak (01539 444451) and dabbling about on the lake yourself. The other local spot worth a mention is the market town of Kendal, the main hub there is The Brewery Arts Centre (01539 725133) and there is a cluster of excellent shops. For one weekend each November the town comes alive with the Kendal Mountain Festival, one of the biggest outdoor festivals in the world and a magnet for adventure seekers, or enjoy Kendal Calling in the summer for a lively music scene.

Available stays: The safari tents are available from March until early November. Stay from Friday for 3, 7, 10 or 14 nights or from Monday for 4, 7, 10 or 14 nights. Weekend breaks: Arrive on a Friday or Saturday for 2 nights. Arrival/departure: Check-in is from 4pm and check-out is at 10am.

Dogs welcome

Dogs are charged at £25 per dog/stay with a maximum of 2 dogs.

With two bedrooms, an additional cabin-inspired double bed, and their own decking area, our safari tents have plenty of room for up to six guests, plus a four-legged friend. Each one has its own wood burning stove and cosy Chesterfield sofas - the perfect place to relax after a day exploring the fells.

Great site, the warden came out & welcomed us when we arrived and shared with us both how to get the most out of the area. A really kind gentleman who chatted when ever we saw him. Great location, the size of the site was perfect 🚐

Nice small site with a perfect location for town visits. Only 2 mins to Keswick town centre. Staff very friendly and helpful. Shower block modern and immaculate. Good size pitches. Good TV reception with freeview. Water at each pitch

We booked two Ready Camp tents and my parents stayed in their campervan on site. The site is immaculate and the tents were stocked with everything you need (bar bedding and pillows) even comfy camp chairs to use on the decking/grass. The beds were very comfortable and the black out bedrooms meant you didn't wake up in the early hours. It was so nice that my sister, who didn't want to glamp at all, thoroughly enjoyed it and wanted to book it again. One tiny thing, the water in the showers is extremely hot!! The ladies all commented on it, the men didn't seem to have the same problem strangely enough. Great location near the shops and in walking distance to the Lake with stunning views.

We occupied two tents in the Ready Camp area and it was great. The tents have everything you need and are situated close to the facilities which are immaculate. People who use this site are mindful that it is a shared area and leave the facilities as they find them which makes for a very nice holiday. The site managers were very helpful and friendly. We will definitely come here again.

Just had a glorious ling weekend in the Safari tents. It's been 27years since we camped here as 4 student nurses in a 3 man tent. Decided to upgrade to the Safari tent. The tent was fabulous, all mod cons and the site beautiful. Facilities excellent and the staff extremely welcoming and friendly. We had a great time and will definitely be back, just won't leave it so long next time!

Some of our party loved the tent, some less so. Overall I think its fair to say it is very good for what it is. It is however not a lodge so understand what facilities the tent has and what isn't included. The outside BBQs are great, as to is the log burning stove. The radiators keep the tent warm and the hot tub is amazing. The big challenges are the small fridge, the lack of cooker (although there is an induction hob and microwave) and the lack of storage. All this is clear in the description just make sure you are prepared for this and everything will be fine.

Sofa was very uncomfortable and mattress can feel springs

More could be done to make the tents clean. Cob webs hanging from the lights, the wood burner not fitted correctly, crumbs in the pans so had to wash them before we used them. Not sure the outside table had seen a clean for sometime?? Little things that could easily be corrected.
