The third episode of Peter Kay’s Car Share series two has become a fan favourite.

And the hilarious storyline, which sees John and Kayleigh bunk off work and take a trip to a safari park, has had viewers guessing where it’s filmed.

Some fans thought the fictional Seaview Safari Park might have been filmed at Knowsley Safari Park in Merseyside.

But the safari park scenes were actually filmed much further afield at Blair Drummond Safari and Adventure Park near Stirling in Scotland.

The episode, which will be screened on Tuesday night, sees John played by Bolton comic Peter Kay and his friend and car share partner Kayleigh, played by Sian Gibson, take a day off with hilarious consequences when they come in contact with a cheeky monkey.

Peter Kay fans have been devouring the second series of Car Share, which is available to view as a box set of all four episodes on BBC iPlayer.

If you've seen episode three, which was screened on BBC1 tonight, you're probably wondering where the Seaview Safari Park is.

The episode saw Peter's character and his 'will they/won't they?' love interest Kayleigh, played by Sian Gibson, bunk off work at the supermarket.

And the hilarious storyline, which saw the pair head for an impromptu day out to a safari park, had viewers guessing where it’s filmed.

Sorry for the spoiler, but they leave the attraction with more than they bargained for, with a monkey coming home with them.

One tweeted: “Can’t remember the last time I laughed so hard!”

And another praised: "Those safari park scenes must enter every future ‘best of’ comedy clip show.”

Some fans thought the fictional Seaview Safari Park might have been filmed at Knowsley Safari Park in Merseyside.

The hit sitcom, which won Best Comedy Show award at 2016 National Television Awards, is mainly filmed in and around nearby Greater Manchester.

However, the safari park scenes were actually filmed much further afield at Blair Drummond Safari and Adventure Park near Stirling in Scotland last summer.

The north of the border venue is home to lions, elephants, penguins and of course monkeys.

Super safari holiday

Upon arrival I was disappointed, this is not like Devon cliffs. However, after one night I have changed my mind. A much smaller sight, hence s lot cheaper than the expensive Devon cliffs, it has two good pools, good clean large entertainment venue and good clean touring toilets. The camping area is fantastic. It is safe for children, set up in a small field in a circular pattern. One way in, one way out with the toilets and playground on this entrance. This field is at the far bottom of the site, and is well away from main roads and through traffic. This makes it safe and loads of children happily playing and safely coming and going to field and playground. The toilets were constantly being cleaned. The entertainment was great, and the team were wonderful with the children. It looks like they are currently upgrading the sports field on Weymouth bay, so it's unfair for people to comment before it's finished. It does look scruffy at present, but all the staff were welcoming and friendly. It was clearly stated months before arrival about booking the swimming pool, and activities. Which I did before, and got all slots wanted. The outside pool is a turn up system. No queues, straight in. Never saw any queues the whole time. If you didn't get chance to book, or wanted more swimming indoors, it operates a turn up system after 6 till 8pm.... Upon arrival I was disappointed, this is not like Devon cliffs. I have come away with feeling that camping and glamping is a much more social experience than caravaning. Children play together, no TV or electronic equipment. Making games and lots of new friends. Parents chat. The caravan areas look dull in comparison, with people sitting on their own staring at TVs. It was a shame that the restaurant is shut, however a three-five minute walk away was a great fish and chip shop at great prices. More

We had a lovely time at Seaview , upon arrival our caravan was lovely and clean everything you need for your holiday. The whole park was clean and tidy and well kept. We had our 5 &7 year old with us and they loved the entertainment and the staff were fantastic with the kids. All the pools were brilliant and well staffed with lifeguards. We loved it and couldn't have asked for a better getaway.

Thank you for your review. We are pleased to hear that you and your family had a lovely stay here at Seaview. We look forward to welcoming you back to Haven soon. Kind Regards Seaview and Weymouth Bay.

We are regulars to haven and enjoy travelling around the country and making the most out of an haven holiday, however seaview holiday park is in DESPERATE need of an upgrade. The park has the location and the ability to be a great park however there’s a lot of things that are dragging this park down Facilities It’s the summer holidays and barely anything on-site is open, the restaurant from what the team have mentioned has not been open for more than half of the season due to staff shortages, and they seem to be in no rush to get chefs in to run the restaraunt but apparently it “ok because we can use the Weymouth bay cafe bar” which is just lazy in my opinion Papa Johns/ cooks- the other food offerings on park had closed on different Days due to dough shortages, and other things. At this point it’s just embarrassing when you pay so much money to go away Entertainment was great- Kieran Brittany Tim Sophie were superb and a highlight of our holiday, very interactive and so much energy, one thing I would like to highlight is the venue is way too hot and many families bought in fans as the aircon is broken and apparently management aren’t looking into fixing it anytime soon. The venue in itself is very outdated which is a shame because it could be a stunning venue if modernised

Thank you for your review! I am so sorry that your holiday was impacted by the closure of our restaurant. We do notify all our guests in their pre arrival emails which they get a week and day before arrival. However, I do understand the inconvenience this may have caused you and your family. I will be honest with you unfortunately; we are facing an extreme recruitment challenge. This is something out of our control and we are working extremely hard to resolve this matter. I can assure you that have passed all your comments and feedback regarding both restaurants and papa johns to our Food and Beverage Manager who will investigate these matters. I will be sure to pass your comments on to our ENTS team. Kind Regards Seaview and Weymouth Bay.

Haven Sea View 3-night stay …… Must read before you book!!! I booked a 3-night stay for my family (my partner, our three-year-old daughter, and myself) at Haven’s Sea View site from Friday 12th until Monday 15th August 2022, and this is my family’s experience. A few days prior to arriving I contacted Sea View as I was informed via the Haven App that our check-in was at 17:00 (this was excessive due to the fact we were only staying for a few days), I spoke with a nice youngish lady, and she kindly changed it to 15:00. However, I was made aware on the call that if we wished to use the indoor pool then we had to book it (via the app) …. I only gained access to the Haven App three days prior (to leaving) and sadly all the slots for swimming were booked (apart from the final day at 8 am, remembering we must leave our caravan at 10 am sharp!). This put a sour taste in our mouths as we have a three-year-old who loves swimming, thankfully the weather was good, and we were able to use the outdoor pool (after queuing for an hour). During the call, I was also made aware that the restaurant at our location was closed and had been for many months! At no stage whatsoever did the website mention this and quite frankly, I would not have booked if I knew this information at the time. I was told that the adjacent Haven site (a short walk apparently) had the eating facilities, and we could book a meal there. Post call, I spent a bit of time booking slots to eat at the restaurant, but all breakfast timings were reserved, and we could only eat around 16:00 (per day) …. Thankfully due to our daughter's age, she eats at this time, but I fear others would be annoyed that they could not eat later. Summary! At no stage during the booking process were we made aware that we must book swimming slots, restaurants, or indeed our restaurant was closed … I have checked to see if I had received notifications of this via emails or via other communication channels, but no information had been given. Extremely poor at best!! Day One. We arrived at Sea View around 13:00 and drove to our caravan, the caravan was not ready, but we already knew this as our check-in was 15:00. We made our way over to reception and asked for directions to the adjacent site (so we could see where to go for food) and were given instructions from the receptionist …. “Go to the bottom left of the campsite, when you get to the walkway, turn LEFT and go all the way down” …. This sadly was incorrect! We travelled almost two miles (South, in the wrong direction, and then back) and came to the beach, rather than four hundred meters North (to the other site) …. Normally this would not be an issue but when you have a three-year-old, in the baking heat, then you start to how inept the person in the reception was. My partner raised this with reception, and they did not really care about what had happened. Once again, extremely poor! We returned to our caravan to find that our check-in time was extended (to 17:00) and just as we were about to head back to reception to get them to expedite the cleaning, we met the cleaner (James B) and thankfully found someone from Haven who went beyond to help us. He cleaned the caravan to a fantastic standard and was able to let us in at 15:00, well done James, very much appreciated! Finally, something positive! We hoped this was the last of our issues for the long weekend…. But we were very much mistaken! We made our way over to the adjacent site for dinner, sat down, and reviewed the menu …. A young lady (around 16/ 17 years old) asked for our order and as we started to select our meals, we were informed that only a few options were available for the night …. Not to be frustrated, we ordered what we could and drank our drinks …. one hour later we asked the server to check on our meals as it was taking a while, and was met with, “they were delivered to the table a while ago” …. We asked to speak with a senior member of the team and very shortly after this, our meals finally arrived (ravioli and pasta with meatballs). To our horror, both were uneatable! It is shocking how poor the service was and asked for the manager! He agreed with us that it was unacceptable, and he confirmed there had been a mishap in the kitchen and took our food off the bill. The only glimmer of hope is the one person who acted in a profound professional manner, and her name is Emily C. Emily was superb and is clearly very experienced in the type of work. Now slightly hungry and annoyed, we walked back to our site in time for the kid’s club show and in the hope of finding something to eat. When arriving at the theatre we were met with what can only be described as a tsunami of heat emanating from the main doors, and as we entered it was abundantly clear the two huge air conditioning units were either not switched on or not working! Both my partner and I laughed, and both used what will turn out to be the phrase of the holiday, “it is what it is.” Finally, something good to report on. The entertainers for the weekend were amazing, most noticeably Brittany, Katie, and the rest of the team! This was our three-year-old’s first time at such a place, and she was completely swept up in the noise, laughter and absolute enjoyment, her smile wiped away the colossal nightmare we had up until that point. As we got wrapped up in the tidal wave of baby shark and other kids’ music, we noticed the Papa John’s within the arena had opened and decided to order some food. I ordered (at 18:40 chicken wings and garlic bread) via the Haven App and then waited …. And waited …. And waited until I decided to go and enquire when the food will be available. Be prepared to be told the following, “Your food is in the oven and will take 10 minutes”! Thankfully, I was at the front of a large and ever-growing queue of hungry, slightly annoyed, and agitated parents. It was incredibly clear there was no leadership nor support for those poor guys working within the kitchen. I would say all were under the age of twenty, and they needed someone to help deal with the vast number of complaints and orders submitted … I eventually received my order, but it was now 20:30 and my daughter was put to bed …. My partner and I ate the meal and just laughed at what can only be described as a long-short encounter between Basil faulty and Manuel. Day Two. Day two started off with us attending the morning kid's show and once again we were not disappointed, Brittany, Katie, and their team are well versed in their programme and our daughter and others lapped up the fun and games. Well done once again, or as my partner said 25/10. We booked an aerial adventure for our daughter on the adjacent site and headed over around 10:30. After a bit of confidence our daughter completed the course that was being led by one of the instructors and on another positive note, we were really pleased with the instructional team as they were professional and kind (one of the young lads gave our daughter a spare ice lolly). We then decided to head back to the restaurant we had unsuccessfully eaten at the previous night (just in case it was a one-off) and this time there was a noticeable difference in the standard of food and service, we put this down to Emily C leading and coordinating and she must be commended of her high level of professionalism. Thanks again, Emily. In the afternoon we spent a large amount of time in the outdoor pool and apart from having to ensure you are there about 45 minutes early, it was nice. We attended the night-time kid's show once again and Brittany, Katie, and their team were superb! Due to the disappointment of the previous night (Papa John’s), we decided to try the fish and chips van. The food is ok, middle-of-the-road type of stuff, my only peeve would be you have to pay in cash and not a card, so having to stroll back to reception was a bit of annoyance but you just get on with it. Day Three. Once again, we attend the Kids club, and we were not let down at all. I want to point out that Brittany, Katie, and their team were superb through the entire 4 day's stay and our daughter will have memories for the rest of her life, even after the day we got back, our daughter was still asking to go to the kid’s club to see Rory and the entertainers. I think that as this is a long review I shall just bullet point the overall experience Pre-book – Needs to be noticeably clear on what is and is not available (i.e., the closure of the restaurant on site) and the booking of events and meals. Application – Allow you to have the ability to book events more than two weeks before you go. Air-con in the arena – Turn it on, I know energy bills are horrible, but you are risking injury if it was hot once again. Think of the entertainers in the character outfits. Check-in times – You should not change them of free will! Especially when you are only going for a brief time! Staff – You cannot solely rely on kids! Yes, they are diligent workers but when you have issues/concerns or even just getting some food, you need adults/leaders to organise. Food – This must be dramatically improved. We spoke with another family who has attended this site for some years and even she was appalled by the service. I have never been to a site like this before, so I did not really know what to expect but if this is the standard of all Haven locations, then I would pass and try another company.

Thank you for your review I will pass your feedback on to the relevant departments and apologise for the issues that you had when staying with us. I do hope you will visit us again in the near future. Kind Regards Weymouth Bay and Seaview

Great place for the family just need to invest in more staff and entertainment for under 5’s. Play area needs to be made bigger with something for all ages. Overall great value for money. Food was ok.

Thank you for your review! We are pleased to hear you felt are park was value for money. Unfortunately, we are facing an extreme recruitment challenge, as are many other hospitality businesses across the country. We are working hard to resolve this as soon as possible however I am sorry that this affected your holiday. We look forward to welcoming you back soon. Kind Regards Seaview and Weymouth Bay

Very small and cramped site, went from Friday 12th to Monday 15th August 2022, we were given SV0117, please look at the map it's inline and 5ft from the main venue entrance, was horrendous, we didn't prebook as we already paid £454, and they wanted between £30-£110 for the privilege of choosing, there isn't any hill or big gaps between the Venue and the row of 117,118,119, all the caravans you see are within metres of the entrance, we slept a few hours the whole weekend, The restaurant is closed for the week we were there. No WiFi anywheredue to technical issues and the main ""Show Bar "" on the SeaView site Air Conditioning is having ""Technical problems according to the Bar Staff in the show Bar so no aircon, the entertainment of SeaSide Squad at 17.25pm couldnt fault the show, was just unbearlbly hot, Not enough players for Bingo Friday night so was cancelled very upset, so choices left to eat are Fish n Chips Van or Pizza which was £39.99 for the cheapest family offer, so we brought food offside and had snacks for the caravan, The site itself was very clean, and the staff we could find were lovely and helpful, as standard Bronze Carvans don't come with Oven Gloves or Mits please be prepared as we already had items in the oven, the staff gave us a white bath towel to use, which was helpful. The indoor pool is tiny but warm and not overcrowded, you cannot use Weymouth Bay pool with the slides and lazy river, The outdoor pool was really nice and had music playing in the day, mini mart was suffentiantly stocked no issues if you needed a few essentials, the Beach at SeaView is Bowerleaze Cove and is a pebble beach and took 2 adults a 7 and 5 year old 25 minutes to reach on foot, it isn't close by any means, but brisk walkers could make it in about 15 minutes, the sand beach is about 9 minute drive Into a weymouth. The Carvan smelt of dogs, which we didn't mind, but just be ware if you don't have pets, it seems all caravans are dog friendly which is great, the walk to the edge of SeaView to Weymouth Bay is 5 minutes with a few fields in between, the map shows a outdoor play park, this is wooden stumps joined up we still had fun, The activity hub we did rockclimbing and Archery, both great Archery was 2 targets and 8 players, rockclimbing was 3 people at a time, Crazy Golf is super super tiny and maybe 20ftx 30ft max for all holes, I wouldn't stay at this Haven site again, but will definitely return to a different site next year, as with most places lack of staff, just means everything was a struggle but you will get this everywhere not just Haven so I don't judge SeaView to harshly, just didn't rate it compared to Devon Cliffs,Riverside,Weymouth Bay,Clacton on Sea or LittleSea which we have visited.

We are working hard to resolve this as soon as possible however I am sorry that this affected your holiday. I am sorry to hear that your holiday was impacted by the closure of our restaurant. If you can’t decide between Knowsley Safari Park and West Midlands Safari Park, we have compared the two in this blog post. When choosing between the two parks, it’s essential to consider the differences that may sway your decision. For instance, Knowsley Safari Park boasts a more extensive collection of animals, while West Midland Safari Park offers a broader range of attractions and experiences. If you prefer a more hands-on experience, The West Midland Safari Park allows you to feed many animals. However, if you’re looking for a more cost-effective day out, especially with a group, Knowsley Safari Park may be the better option.

This expansive wild animal park is home to over 80 species of animals living in 360 acres of parkland. Make the most of the attractions of Weymouth including the long sandy beach which is great for a day out in the sun. As well as the parks great facilities, guests can enjoy the Adventure Village and Box Bar at Weymouth Bay Holiday Park just a short walk away!

Haven Seaview Sports & Leisure

When it comes to facilities, Seaview ticks all the boxes. The amazing indoor swimming pool lies at the centre of the resort and has a shallow area for children. There are some fun water based activities which kids love to have a go at, including zooming around on the Aqua Jets or Aqua Paddlers for a change of pace! In the summer, the outdoor pool is the perfect place to cool off from the sun and enjoy swimming around under the blue sky.

We love the Make a Bear sessions, where little ones can create their own cuddly toy and bring it home as a special souvenir after the holiday. The Pic 'n' Paint Pottery is the perfect opportunity to go wild with the colourful paints and create something really beautiful. Don't miss out on the outdoor sessions, where park rangers will help kids construct their own den in the woods, lead them on a bug hunt or guide you down the nature trail.

Out & about in dorset.

Seaview is perfectly located for access to some of Weymouth's most popular attractions. The beautiful beach just 1 mile away is one of the resorts best features - with stretches of sand and shallow water, it is perfect for sunbathing, swimming and building sandcastles. The colourful beach huts are iconic along the seafront and the atmosphere is lively and exciting. The region also has an excellent array of restaurants, cafes, amusements and parks.

Bowleaze Cove is another must-visit beach, only a 15 minute walk away. This pebble beach is slightly quieter but still benefits from stunning views and stretches out along the coastline. With a cafe on the beach, this is the perfect spot to spend an afternoon relaxing in the sun with a refreshing ice cream!

We recommend visiting the Sea Life Adventure Park which is home to a variety of marine creatures including sharks, turtles, penguins and seahorses. The attraction goes above and beyond with interactive exhibits and educational presentations, perfect for keeping little kids engaged.

Just a short drive from Weymouth, you'll find Abbotsbury Swannery, the only managed colony of nesting mute swans in the world. You can walk among the swans and even hand-feed them. Adjacent to the swannery, Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens offer a stunning collection of rare and exotic plants.

When in Dorset, be sure not to miss out on a trip to Durdle Door! This iconic limestone arch set against the backdrop of the Jurassic Coast is well known and offers spectacular views of the coast. It's a great spot for photography, coastal walks and enjoying the natural beauty of the area.

5-mile safari drive

The uk's longest safari drive.

Our 550-acre Safari Drive is home to many animals from around the world. From Bactrian Camels and White Rhino to Baboons and African Lions, you can see them all as you drive around the grounds. The route is split into different continental zones where you’ll drive through many habitats and see our collection of animals along the way. Once you’ve finished your roar-some experience, you can head down to our Foot Safari - both experiences are included in your ticket!

Your adventure begins in Eastern Asia where you’ll meet our herd of Bactrian Camels whose coat sheds throughout the year, and lots of Yaks, Eastern Kiang and Père David’s Deer roaming around. In the Southern Asia area, you’ll find the Axis Deer and Eld’s Deer as well as Nilgai and Blackbuck.

Our African Savannah zone is home to one of the largest White Rhino crashes in the UK. Watch out for the world’s largest bird too, the Ostrich, as they love to come over and say hello! Can you spot the distinct markings on the Roan Antelope or the short pointed horns of the Waterbuck? Whilst driving through the African woodland, keep your eyes peeled for the Sitatunga too.

Dare to enter the monkey jungle? The most anticipated area of the Safari Drive. Hold on to your seatbelts as our Baboons steal the show. They’ll come right up to your car so, if you’d prefer, our car-friendly route will allow you to watch from afar. If you still want the full mischievous experience, why not book the Baboon Bus?

African Lions

Our Safari Drive takes you through Lion Country, allowing you to watch the pride without a fence between them and your vehicle!

African Lions

White Rhino

White Rhino are one of the most endangered animals on the planet. They are often hunted for their horn.

White Rhino

European Bison

Bison can be found in North America and Northern Europe. The European Bison were once extinct in the wild.

European Bison

In the wild, a Baboon troop can number between 20 and 100! Their ranges vary considerably depending on food availability.

Baboons

A real highlight of the Safari Drive is meeting the Pride of Knowsley in the lion enclosure where our pride of African Lions roam around. See for yourself!

The beauty of the Safari Drive is that it's different every time you drive through and the best part is, you can go around as many times as you like!

Warning infographic incase of a breakdown

Warning infographic incase of a breakdown

It's important to us that our guests and animals stay safe so we ask all guests to follow our rules of entry. Our animals behave as close to the wild as possible and can be unpredictable, so you should stay inside your car at all times. If you break down while on the safari drive it is important that all passengers stay within the car, you should sound your horn and wait for a patrol vehicle to come to your assistance.

Our safari drive is full of wild animals who can act unpredictably at times and we are not able to accept any responsibility for damage caused by our baboons within their enclosure. If you would prefer not to take this risk then why not take our car-friendly route or even hop on our Baboon Bus.

Guests are strictly prohibited from feeding the animals – that’s our job! If you are seen feeding the animals from your vehicle you will be asked to leave.

Dogs are not allowed in any areas of Knowsley Safari. This includes both the Safari Drive and also the pedestrian areas of the Foot Safari.

We do however provide basic accommodation for your dog should you wish to bring them on your trip.

Our kennels provide basic accommodation for your pet. Drinking water is available but we do not provide water bowls or blankets. Please feel free to bring with you any items that will make your pet as comfortable as possible. A £5.00 refundable padlock is available at reception on arrival.

We are famous for our drive-through Baboon enclosure but did you know that you can watch their antics from a safe distance if you’re not quite brave enough to venture in? You can take our car-friendly route which still gives you fantastic views of our cheeky residents.

If you fancy the thrill of the Baboons without any of the risk then try our baboon bus. You can book your seats online and you’ll be driven the whole way round the safari as well as through the baboon enclosure.

Summary. To put projects on your traditional chronological resume , include a separate projects section beneath the education or work experience section. In a project based resume, rename the work experience section to be named “projects” and you can avoid the standard chronological resume format and instead focus on your most relevant projects and professional skills.

No matter where you are in your career journey, adding projects to your resume can highlight your key qualifications and help your application make more of an impression.

In this article, you’ll learn how to add projects to your resume and when it’s a good idea to take this route.

Key Takeaways

You can work projects into your work history section, organize your resume around your projects, or create a separate section for your projects.

You should list your most relevant projects first and leave off any irrelevant projects.

Freelancers, entry-level job candidates, and people who are changing career paths could benefit most from project-based resumes.

To list projects on a traditional chronological resume , you should include a separate projects section beneath the education or work experience portion of your professional resume. This can be easily accomplished by including a “key projects” section below the bullets detailing your previous job responsibilities and accomplishments.

Listing projects on a traditional date-ordered resume can be a great option for professionals who want to showcase their project management expertise while also detailing their prior work titles and chronological job experience.

If you’re looking to ditch your traditional chronological resume altogether, a project-based resume is a great way of showcasing your most desirable professional skills outside of the tight confines of a standard cookie-cutter resume that lists your work experience in reverse chronological order.

By renaming the “work experience” section of your resume to “projects,” you can easily avoid the standard chronological resume format and instead focus on your most relevant projects and professional skills. This unique structure focuses more on practical, hands-on experience and less on how long you held a certain job title.

To list projects on a resume:

Contextualize the project’s details. You don’t want each project to take up too much space, but you do need to describe the key who, what, where, when, and why of the story. Most importantly, bring in numbers as often as possible.

Highlight your accomplishments. “Ideally, your resume is a list of achievements,” says resume expert Don Pippin . When describing your projects, be sure that the direct impact that you had on the end result is apparent.

Tailor your resume for each job. Again, this applies to all resumes, not just project-based ones. In the context of projects, though, be sure to think about how each entry relates to the specific job you’re applying for.

Provide examples. If you’re emailing your resume, including some hyperlinks to documents relating to past projects can be really impactful. Not only can the hiring manager see the results of your work, but also how you and your team approached projects in general.

Below are three examples of ways you can list projects on your professional resume or CV . Using these examples as a template when writing your job-specific resume can help you advance in the hiring process and land the job of your dreams.

Listing Projects in the Education Section of Your Chronological Resume Example:

Education Massachusetts Institute of Technology | Cambridge, Massachusetts B.S. in Mechanical Engineering , May 2020 | GPA: 3.8 Key Projects: Led a team of three engineering students to execute blueprints and coordinate the production of state-of-the-art air filtration systems for the university hospital. Production and installation came in 12% under budget and were completed 2 weeks ahead of schedule.

Listing Projects Below Previous Job Responsibilities and Work Descriptions in Your Chronological Resume Example:

Work Experience Sales Associate Baker Technologies | March 2019-present Drove revenue by 13% year-over-year by initiating increased customer engagement policy Oversaw a team of five cashiers, who collectively processed average credit card and cash payments of over $20,000 daily Key Projects: Worked with a software developer to redesign and launch Baker Technologies’ online marketplace, resulting in a $2 million increase in profits for 2019.

Listing Projects in a Projects Section of Your Project-Based Resume Example:

Professional Project Highlights App Development Camping With Oliver , July 2020-November 2020 Developed and coded a complex app, compatible with iPhone and Android devices, designed to help hikers locate free campsites in their area. Increased digital revenue stream by 55% following launch Private Web Design Bobbi’s Bakery , January 2021-March 2021 Built a multifunctional website with a complex ordering system using HTLM 5, CSS, and bug-free code Managed all custom graphics, page composition, and branding for this client, leading to a 30% Q/Q jump in sales

If it’s your first time listing projects on a resume or ditching your traditional chronological resume or project-based one, there are a few things you need to keep in mind to craft an effective resume and impress hiring managers.

By following these five tips, you’ll be able to perfectly listing projects on your professional resume and allow your key skills and job qualifications to shine.

Lead with the most relevant projects. One of the biggest advantages of a project-based resume is having the ability to list your work experiences and skills in order of the most relevant projects, instead of arranging them chronologically.

Highlight leadership and job-specific skills. If you’re listing projects on your resume, it’s important to be deliberate and meticulous in the projects you include. Your project list should be presentable, professional, and perfectly convey your leadership and job-specific skills.

Show how you achieve results and meet company goals. Another substantial perk of listing projects on your resume is the ability to clearly illustrate and verify how you are results-driven and ready to meet company goals.

Illustrate how your experiences align with company values. Not only is it important to showcase the skills and qualifications required for a job opening, but it’s also essential to illustrate how your work style and professional goals align with the values a company prides itself on.

Keep project descriptions short. To emphasize your strongest skills and professional abilities, it’s important to keep project descriptions short, concise, and to the point. Providing only the essential details to demonstrate your skills, achievements, and experience will allow hiring managers to easily read and review your resume.

Listing projects on your resume will help you get a leg up over other qualified competing applicants.

A project-based resume, similar to a functional resume , is highly effective in conveying your unique qualifications, work style, field of specialization, and areas of expertise.

Project-based resumes are great tools for illustrating hands-on experience and your decision-making and conflict resolution skills. Describing projects you’ve been involved with can give hiring managers a glimpse into how you operate as an employee.

Submitting a project-based resume with your job applications can allow you to position yourself as the best candidate for the role by highlighting and describing projects that closely align with the job description included in the advertisement.

Including a list of projects on your resume will allow your job application to shine and illustrate your work capabilities and well-rounded personality; to hiring managers and job recruiters.

A project-based resume is a professional resume that focuses on accomplishments rather than chronological job titles and previous work responsibilities.

Where a traditional resume lists work experience and academic degrees in date order, a project-based resume instead does one of two things.

It either lists a job seeker’s relevant academic, work, and personal projects in order of most to least compelling or includes specific projects beneath the education or work experience sections of a resume.

Project-based resumes effectively provide hiring managers and prospective employers with verifiable proof of a job applicant’s industry expertise, achievements, and experience.

Anyone can use project-based resumes, but the following groups might find additional benefit:

Freelancers. Project-based resumes can be an especially worthwhile option for freelancers , as it allows you to ditch the traditional chronological resume and instead focus on projects you have worked on that are most relevant to the position you’re applying to.

Entry-level candidates. Not only is a project-based resume a great alternative for freelance workers, but it can also be equally as enticing for traditional employees or recent graduates since projects can be easily listed beneath education and work experience sections, as you would normally list accomplishments, skills, and previous job responsibilities.

Career changers. Writing a project-based resume can be a great option for people looking for their first job, changing careers, coming off a long sabbatical or personal leave, or searching for a full-time job after a series of freelance gigs.

Should I put my projects on my resume?

Careers for Visual Mathematicians

What to put in career focus on a resume, ways to quantify accomplishments on a resume.

  • How to Write a CV When Just Leaving School
  • How to Create a Sports Resume

Describing projects in your resume gives potential employers a solid, real-life look at the specific types of work you can produce. When selecting the types of projects to include, choose ones with measurable objectives and proven outcomes. The way you present the examples should show your capabilities in direct relation to the type of work you are pursuing.

Choosing the Right Words

The descriptions you use to describe your key career projects must be powerful and demonstrative. Consider the following keywords and phrases:

  • Instrumental in
  • Lead the effort to
  • Was a key player in
  • Took on the challenge of
  • Volunteered to lead
  • Established
  • Transformed
  • Spear-headed

When choosing quantifiable descriptors, select terms that demonstrate achievement.

  • Resulted in

The more powerful the words, the more powerful your examples.

Working Projects into Your Resume Format

One way to describe projects in a resume is to highlight select projects under each former job description. This approach allows you to highlight what you were able to accomplish in each role.

Sales Associate , Any Co.

In this role, I was responsible for cold-calling clients and working to establish long-term client relationships in the office supplies industry.

Showcase Projects:

During my 3-year tenure, I introduced a web-based leads-generating system that increased closed sales by more than 18 percent in the first year.

Your project highlights should not exceed more than a few sentences and should focus on tangible achievements.

Adding a Projects Section to Your Resume

Another way to describe projects in a resume is to add a section to your document that specifically focuses on key projects you have undertaken during your career .

Career Project Highlights

Responsible for reducing waste by 23 percent during management tenure at ABC Co. by implementing a surplus inventory tracking system.

Designed and implemented new data processing program for 200-member marketing division at XYZ Corp. that saved more than $2 million in consulting fees over a 5-year period.

Spear-headed $1 million fundraising gala while director of development for Any Charity USA.

This approach offers an added advantage as you can easily swap out the projects category depending on the type of job you are applying for without having to rewrite your entire resume. For example, you may have one set of projects that demonstrate your management and leadership capabilities that you would use when applying for a supervisory position, and another set of projects that demonstrate your sales acumen you would insert when you are searching for a high-volume sales job.

Why Project Highlights are Important

Describing projects in your resume offers several distinct advantages:

  • It establishes you as a successful professional in your field.
  • It demonstrates a proven track record of success.
  • It allows potential employers to mentally insert you into a position that requires a similar skill set.
  • It demonstrates leadership skills and initiative.

In addition to including projects in your resume, reference them in your cover letter and be prepared to discuss them in-depth during an interview process as well.

Work Experience on a Resume - How to List It Right

Background Image

Imagine you’re an HR manager for a second, and someone sends in their resume for you to go over.

What section do your eyes jump to first?

If you guessed work experience , then you’re right.

And if you spot a few relevant keywords in the past job experience section, then you’d continue on their background , contact information , and so on.

When applying for a job, the number one thing most recruiters want to know is if you can really do it right .

And one way to know that for sure is to look at your past work experience.

So, we know two things: most HR managers spend on average 6 seconds to go through a resume. And the work experience is one of the most important sections you can have.

Where does that leave us with?

Basically, if you want to get that call back for the interview, your work experience section really needs to be top-notch.

Now, when it comes to writing a resume - the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Meaning, other sections need to be up to par as well.

But for now, we’re going to focus on arguably the most important section of any resume - the work experience.

How to Put Work Experience on a Resume [W/ Template]

How to stand out with your work experience section, 5 real-life work experience examples (for different fields), how to list other resume sections.

But before we dive right in, you’ll need the right tool to build your resume.

Want to save yourself the headache of trying to craft the perfect resume section-by-section from the ground up?

You can get a head start and use our resume builder instead.

work experience on a resume

Our templates were developed with recruiters and employers in mind, so that your resume format is easy to follow and scan.

The work experience section is where you get to really sell yourself, so you have to make sure you really iron out the details and the formatting makes sense.

This is where you get to show off your best qualities.

Because, if the recruiter is going to pick between 10 different candidates, you know for a fact they’re going to narrow down the list starting with the most relevant experience.

To get your work experience to really shine on your resume, first, we’re going to cover the basic formatting , and then get to the best practices on how to stand out with your work experience section.

What’s that? You don’t have any experience to begin with? No problem!

Check out our no experience resume guide if you’re trying to get your first professional job.

Now, here’s what you need to know about structuring your work experience section.

Basic Formatting

A good resume tells a story of who you are, what your background is, and why you’re the perfect candidate for the job at hand.

Now, that doesn’t mean you should tell your whole life story, because after all, the ideal resume length is still 1 page .

Instead, this is where you sell yourself , brag about your past achievements and responsibilities.

When listing your previous job roles, you should follow a reverse-chronological order (though, also consider other resume formats ).

To make sure your resume is easy to follow, we recommend going with the standard work experience format, which looks a bit like this:

  • Job Title and Position
  • Company Name / Description / Location

Dates Employed

  • Responsibilities and Achievements

Or, here’s how it looks like in practice:

work experience on resume

Now, let’s explain what goes in each part:

Job Title / Position

Your job title goes first .

When the HR manager scans through your resume, this will most likely be the first section they’ll check.

Be prepared and make it easy for them to find this.

There is not a lot to say here except that your job title should be accurate to what you did.

To make things simple, you can use the exact name you saw in the original job ad.

  • Digital Marketing Expert
  • Online Marketing Magician

Company Name, Description, and Location

If the position checks out, they’ll want to know more details.

If the company isn’t famous, you can also describe in 1-2 sentences. And you should always mention the location of the firm, too.

Try to keep the total section under 3-5 jobs and only remove other job experiences if you’re running out of space and absolutely can’t remove any other part of your resume.

Achievements and Responsibilities

When listing achievements in your resume , you should add any specific change you made happen (we’ll explore how to do this more in-depth below) that the HR manager can apply to their company.

When possible, you should always list accomplishments over responsibilities.

After all, the HR manager already knows what your responsibilities are - they’ve probably gone through similar resumes over 100 times now with the same bland responsibilities

  • Hit and exceeded monthly sales KPIs for 5 months in a row.
  • Carried out sales operations.

If that’s not possible because of the nature of the job (e.g. cashier , entry-level, etc.), however, you can simply list out your daily responsibilities and tasks.

While describing your job responsibilities, try to limit them within 6 bullet points at most.

Sounds obvious, right?

Simply list how long you worked at your previous role for. And relax , if you don’t remember the exact day you got hired, you can give an approximate timeframe.

The standard format for dates employed is mm/yyyy .

Digital Marketing Manager

06/2015 - PRESENT

June 20 of 2015 - PRESENT

If you decide to use the mm/yyyy format, aim for consistency and make sure your other work experience listings look the same way.

Work Experience Q&A

Have some questions on your work experience section?

Maybe you have a giant gap in your work experience, or you’re a recent graduate looking for a job with 0 work experience .

In this section, we’re going to cover the most common questions about the work experience section...

Do You List an Internship?

Not sure if an internship belongs on your resume?

Well, are you applying for an intermediate or senior role?

If it’s either of the two, then you might want to leave out the internship you did 4-5 years ago.

Meanwhile, are you a recent college grad with not a lot of practical work experience?

If so, an internship is a great way to show some substance and that you’re serious about your career path.

Everyone has to start somewhere, and if you’re struggling to fill up your resume, you should definitely include any internships, even if you weren’t hired full-time afterwards, or the internship was in a completely different field.

What If You Don’t Have a Lot of Experience?

If you’re applying for an entry-level job haven’t worked a day in your life, you can focus on other ways to present yourself.

For example, you can focus more on your soft skills , university achievements , and other personal qualities .

If you’re a recent college grad, the recruiter is most likely not expecting you to have a whole page worth of work experience - so don’t sweat it.

Instead, you might consider including the following contents:

  • Summer Job - Ever worked a summer job? Include it! This can show the recruiter that you have SOME work experience, even if it’s not related to the job you’re applying for.
  • University Projects - Pretty much all team-based project exercises work. Created a mock product for a business class? Add it!
  • Personal Projects - Done anything interesting with your free time? Published videos on Youtube? Coded mini software applications? Add them to your resume!

How Do You List Gaps In Your Resume?

Gaps on a resume can be a red flag - only if you provide no explanation.

If the HR manager sees an empty gap in your work experience section, they’re going to assume the worst case scenario.

So, it’s better to ease their expectations and be honest.

In a line or two, explain what happened and move on, no need to dwell on it.

  • July 2018 - February 2019, due to my medical situation, I had to take time off to fully recover and focus on my health.

The good news is that you don’t have to tell the whole story, especially if it’s personal, but be prepared to briefly go over it if it comes up during the interview.

And now, if you really want to stand out from other candidates with your superior work experience listing, here’s what you can do.

Do you want to hear some good news?

When it comes to listing their work experience, many people simply mention their daily responsibilities and call it a day.

Want your application to stand out from the bunch? Do this:

Write Achievements Instead of Responsibilities

One of the best ways you can summarize your job experience is by showing your achievements .

In most cases, the HR manager can already guess what your responsibilities were. Especially if it’s anything like the one you’re applying for - they probably know the position inside out.

Instead, to stand out, what you can do is show your impact , in that role.

  • Increased landing page CTR by 4% in the first month through A/B testing and changing the copy.
  • Worked with email marketing and launched social media campaigns.

If you increased the overall revenue growth from 5% to 15%, and implemented a new marketing plan for the year, this is something recruiter will want to know.

They’re looking for information and any kind of quantifiable change that you can also apply to their company.

However, if you were in a position where you could not leave behind any notable achievements (e.g. sever in a restaurant, cashier in a supermarket, etc.), feel free to simply list your responsibilities and tasks .

Tailoring your work experience to a specific job

When reading a resume, the HR manager is looking for information relevant to that specific position, with its own unique requirements.

Because, guess what, if you send the same resume to every job ad you can get your hands on, it’s going to be very obvious that you’re using a generic resume, not optimized for any of them in particular.

To avoid that, show the recruiter that you actually took the time to read the job ad (which you should) , and that your resume is tailored to their requirements.

To do this, actually read the job ad in detail, not just give it a quick glance and call it a day.

For example, take this ad:

job ad example

They’re looking for someone:

  • With 5+ years of experience in creating digital experiences
  • Proficient in standard UX software
  • With specific knowledge of interface patterns for mobile, web, and responsive design (i.e. specific areas)
  • With good understanding of HTML, CSS , JAVA , and more

The point is that they’re looking for specific knowledge within the general position.

So in this case, they want someone with a B.A. degree , 5+ years of experience and with a good understanding of basic front-end development.

You can mention how you excel at all this within your work experience entries…

  • Developed mobile applications with Java, optimized for both Mobile and Web

Now, with all that knowledge combined, let’s take a look at some exceptional real-life resume examples that work.

Not sure how to list work experience for your field?

Looking for some inspiration?

Here’s a few practical work experience examples:

Marketing Work Experience Example

marketing work experience example

As a marketer, you probably know all about the importance of tailoring your message to your target market.

So, your resume needs to reflect that.

Don’t be afraid of using some marketing-specific language and tools within your resume.

Look at your resume as an ad, with the intention of selling yourself .

The above professional experience section does a number of things really well.

They made sure to:

  • List their achievements in a clear way with a quantifiable number to it
  • Include only the previous positions that are relevant to marketing
  • Follow a clear, easy-to-read structure that the HR interview can skim through.

In terms of design, you might want to choose your approach based on the company.

If they’re a tech startup that values creativity - you can use a template similar to the above one.

If not - go with a more conservative one.

Teacher Work Experience Example

teacher work experience example

Teacher resumes can be more complicated because of the formality behind it and the necessary certificates required.

Let’s take a look at the above example of a teacher resume applying and see what they did well:

In this example, everything under the teaching work experience is listed as responsibilities - which is fine, in this case .

Because, chances are, you won’t have a lot of achievements as a teacher.

  • Taught SO well that one of my students went on to become the president of the United States

Since the teacher’s only worked 1 job in this case, they also added a volunteering experience to the resume .

This is a great way to boost their chances and back up their qualifications.

Though volunteering is not the same thing as teaching , it can still help you stand out from the rest of the applicants?

Cashier Work Experience Example

cashier work experience example

There are no essential credentials business owners expect to come up on a cashier’s resume .

Though, basic arithmetic and computer skills always help, so it’s a good idea to mention your educational background.

Customer service is another important area, which you can focus on in your work experience:

And this is one of those times where it’s perfectly acceptable to simply list out your daily responsibilities instead of any noteworthy achievements in your work experience.

The HR manager isn’t expecting a cashier to have changed the way the store works completely, increasing revenue by 20%. Instead, what they want to know is if you can do the tasks as expected.

Be direct and honest with your work experience here to show you’re qualified and you’ll be fine.

Software Developer Work Experience Example

software developer work experience example

Working within IT, there are also a lot of different ways you can list your work experience section - depending on the job, which might have been full-time or freelance work .

As an IT, you will most likely have to include achievements as well as responsibilities .

Though if you’re a developer, you might not be able to show your achievements through your code.

Instead, you can show the impact of your code (or software) through the frame of the bigger picture.

For example, let’s say you worked on an internal software project:

  • Developed a new internal HR approval software and significantly increased the speed for processing applicants in the company

Look into how you assisted the overall project development through your code.

When it comes to most tech jobs, your work experience is the single most important section on your resume.

Make sure you include all the relevant details, and try to keep your list of responsibilities up to six bullet points at most.

Feel free to also include any technical details and examples you can come up with (quantifiable data always helps), as the HR manager will have some knowledge of what you’re talking about.

But on the other hand, don’t fill up your work experience with jargon and buzzwords either.

For more examples, check out our guide to a software engineer resume .

Student Work Experience Example

student work experience example

Finally, what if you’re a student with not a lot of experience under your belt?

Then your work experience section might look a bit different, something like the above example.

Yes, that’s only one listing under the work experience. And yes, that’s fine.

Why’s that?

Because no one’s expecting you to actually have 5+ years worth of experience as a recent graduate.

Your lack of work experience shouldn’t hold you back. Simply list any experience you do have , and move on.

Though, this is where your other type of experience can help.

Consider your volunteer experience or an internship you’ve gone through.

The HR managers typically are looking for people who are devoted and ambitious in student and graduate resumes .

So, don’t get too hung up on your actual work experience .

Your resume has other sections as well.

Here’s what you need to know about that:

While your work experience might be the single most important section of your resume, at the end of the day, it works in sync with all the other resume sections .

Even if they might not be relevant at first glance, your soft skills , personal qualities , and hobbies and interests can be the deciding factor between you getting the job or not.

There are going to be cases when the recruiter has to make a decision with candidates with near-identical work experience.

Here’s where the other resume sections come into play and how you can boost your chances of getting picked:

Conferences, Courses and Certificates

This can either go in your education section or in a category of its own, depending on the context.

Generally, your approach here should vary depending on the relevance and the importance of your certification or course.

For example, if you’re applying for a job in education , your certificates are probably going to be more important. Especially if you know you’re going to be working closely within those fields in your applied job.

certificates on resume

For example, if you’re going to be teaching social studies to high-school students, you might want to include your relevant certificates within the field.

Of course, any other general education certificated can also help.

The language section is particularly interesting, because while it might not provide any specific examples of how you do your job better, it’s still a good thing to have.

Simply because most companies are international nowadays, with clients all over the world. Being bilingual is a great way to stand out and offer a competitive advantage.

languages on resume

When listing your languages, consider how you can rate yourself. You can say that you are:

  • Intermediate

They’re not going to take up a lot of space in your resume, so you might want to include this section if you’re confident about your language skills.

Personal Projects

Everyone loves a side-gig.

It’s one of the best ways you can show your passion and dedication.

Any personal passion project you’ve been working on that is relevant to your current job position can help you stand out and show that you’re not making stuff up.

If you’re a student with not a lot of work experience, for example, you can use your personal projects section to back up your soft skills and your dedication.

personal projects on resume

How you spend your free time says a lot about you.

And if it’s spent focusing on what you’re truly passionate about, then the HR manager should know about it immediately.

Anything that’s not as relevant, however, like your 3rd grade lemonade stop project , should probably be left off to make space.

Key takeaways

To recap, your work experience section of the resume is arguably one of the most important parts of your resume.

So, you need to make sure you’re formatting it right and it’s easy for the HR manager to skim through it.

Here’s how you can do that:

  • First, stick to the following work experience order: job title, position, company name, description, location, achievements, responsibilities, dates employed
  • This ensures maximum readability and makes it easy for the HR manager to jump to the relevant keywords they’re looking for.
  • When listing your work experience though, make sure you’re custom tailoring it to the job ad and listing any noteworthy achievements whenever possible to stand out.
  • Within your job experience section, also consider if you’re going to include your internship , and how your other sections can help your overall resume format.
  • The whole is greater than the sum of its parts when it comes to your resume. Meaning, you can’t rely on your work experience along to get you the job and your overall resume needs to be in sync as well.

How to List Projects on a Software Engineer Resume

The fast well prepared banner

Writing an effective software engineer resume is the first step to landing your dream job . This seemingly simple task can make or break your career. Your resume is the first thing the recruiter will read, and with thousands of applications to check, you can be sure that they will be doing so in a hurry.

Your resume has about 6 seconds to capture the recruiter’s attention before they move on to the next one.

One of the most crucial sections of a software engineer resume (after the work experience section) is the projects section. Projects showcase your areas of expertise and make your resume look more authentic. Through your projects, you can show both hard and soft skills and technical and non-technical aspects of your profile.

how to describe project experience in resume

In this article, we’ll show you how to properly list your projects to create an impressive resume. We will cover the following:

Types of Projects to Consider on a Software Engineer Resume

  • Tips to List Your Project on a Software Engineer Resume

Frequently Asked Questions on Software Engineer Resume

Prepare for your next tech interview.

Before we begin, understand that when we say “projects,” it’s not restricted to professional projects. You can also list personal projects that you believe will display qualities that the hiring company will admire. Here’s what you can include in your software engineering resume:

1. Professional Projects: List out relevant projects from your past jobs or independent projects you carried out professionally (paid consulting or freelance work). Projects showcase your ability to:

  • Develop real-world applications and solutions independently
  • Add value to your prospective role

2. Personal Projects: These are side projects you pursued, paid or unpaid. Personal projects showcase:

  • Your interest and passion for software
  • Your ability to learn, develop, and execute new skills independently
  • Your ability to apply your current skills to a broader range of projects

3. Academic Projects: List these if you’re a new graduate or have limited experience. As a junior software developer with some experience or an experienced mid-level or senior software engineer, these can be left out. You can add these projects under the section “Education” if necessary.

‍ Tips to List Your Project on a Software Engineer Resume ‍

Now, on to the tips that will help you correctly and comprehensively list your projects:

1. Create a Separate Section for Projects or Add to “Work Experience”

If you have considerable professional experience and multiple projects to include on your software engineer resume, it’s advisable to create a separate section for projects. This will increase resume clarity and let your work experience stand out.

If you have only one or two projects to list, they can be included as part of your work experience. However, it’s advisable to separate personal projects from your professional work experience. Projects are usually listed under the headings “Projects,” “Technical Projects,” or “Additional Work Experience.”

2. Classify as Professional or Personal Projects

List technical projects under separate heads as professional or personal. Professional projects tend to be perceived more favorably as commercial, marketable skills . Personal projects show the recruiter that you’re self-motivated and can work independently.

3. List Each Project With a Header and Project Description

List individual projects in the same way you would your work experience. Maintain a consistent format for all projects listed following formatting guidelines used to list your work experience.

  • Project Header: Project Title, Project Start and End Dates, Your Role in the Project, Technologies, and Skills Used
  • Project Description: Describe the project in 2-4 bullet points, including the project goal and outcome.

Project List Template

4. Create and Link to an Online Project Portfolio

If you have an online portfolio of projects or an online project or personal website, provide a link to it in your resume. Recruiters can view the project to get first-hand insights on your skills and tech capabilities. For example, link to individual projects in your Github account if you have one.

Hyperlink to your online projects using appropriate words in the project description or by providing a separate, short link. Alternatively, you can include this link in your resume header section, as part of your contact information, as a link to your online profile.

5. List Relevant Projects

List only the most relevant projects showcasing skills that match the job requirements and complement your work experience. List these projects in decreasing order of relevance.

Only include projects that are at par or above your professional work expertise. Your project should show additional skills or depth in a particular proven skill. It should not reiterate skills or experience you’ve already listed under “Work Experience.”

For example, as a senior software engineer , showing a project using commonly-used basic programming languages is not impressive, as this is expected from an experienced engineer at a high-level position. However, listing a project you conceptualized and executed using an in-demand or advanced programming language will grab a recruiter’s attention.

It’s advisable to list only those projects that you have completed successfully.

6. Highlight Technical and Non-technical Skills

You can showcase both technical skills and soft skills used on your projects. This is especially useful if your professional work experience has limited scope to showcase soft skills such as leadership, initiative, management, creativity, resourcefulness, etc.

Did you know that in addition to your resume, you should also optimize your LinkedIn profile to attract recruiters? Check out this article to understand how you can leverage LinkedIn to land tech interviews.

7. Use keywords

When describing your projects, use relevant keywords mentioned in the job description to create a close match.

Pro Resume Tip: Ensure you strike a good balance between work experience and projects. As an experienced senior software engineer, you should focus on your work experience and a few important projects. As an entry-level software engineer with limited experience, showcasing more projects than work experience is acceptable.  ‍

Q. What are soft skills vs. hard skills in software engineers?

Soft skills refer to personal traits and qualities that have an influence on how a candidate works. It includes problem-solving attitude, collaboration, and time management abilities.

In contrast, hard skills refer to task-related competencies. These skills are necessary to complete the work successfully. Examples of hard skills in software engineering involve a strong command of tools and frameworks along with programming languages like Python, C, C++, JavaScript, and others.

Q. What do employers seek in an entry-level software engineer?

Employers assess if the entry-level software engineer has a computer science degree and a strong background in computer fundamentals. Further, they also evaluate the experience of the candidate in a collaborative environment, along with familiarity with programming languages, software testing, and debugging.

Q. What hard skills should I add to my software engineer's resume?

For a software engineer resume, you can add skills like Java, JavaScript, designing, software development knowledge, computer skills, and projects completed that can increase your competencies in the job market.

Q. How do I write my experience as a software engineer on a resume?

Writing the experience as a software engineer must begin from the latest at the top to the oldest at the bottom. It emphasizes the latest learnings and up-to-date knowledge while indicating the previous accomplishments and learning experiences on the path.

Q. What is a good summary for a software engineer resume?

A good summary can be written as follows: Experienced in programming languages: Python, Java, Pearl, SQL, C, and C++. An effective listener with great communication skills to deliver complex information in an understandable manner. Have a great problem-solving approach and multi-tasking abilities and can work under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.

How to List Research Experience on Your Resume

Applying for a role that requires research skills? Here’s how to list your research experience on a resume, with examples you can follow.

2 years ago   •   7 min read

Research experience isn’t just for science and academia. Research is a valuable skill that’s required for a number of roles and industries, which means it almost certainly has a place on your resume. And no — that doesn’t mean writing “research” in your skills section and moving on.

Why you should list research experience on your resume

If you’re applying for a job that involves research, listing research experience is a no-brainer. Research-specific positions, scientific jobs like Research Assistants , Lab Assistants or Technicians, graduate school applications, and most jobs in academia all require evidence of research skills. Even outside these positions, research experience demonstrates valuable transferable skills, like critical thinking and attention to detail . Which is not to say that you need to include research experience on every resume — if it makes you a stronger candidate, include it, but if it isn’t relevant and doesn’t add anything else to your candidacy, leave it off.

Research experience resume example

Before we dive right in, here's a sample resume that emphasizes research skills. You can use this as a template or as inspiration to write your own resume from scratch.

How to list research experience in your resume

Like a lot of desirable skills, research is a soft skill , meaning it’s not something you can claim as an objective fact on your resume without backing it up. What you can do instead is prove it — what previous role involved a lot of research? What resume accomplishments do you have that highlight your research experience? Showing how you used research skills in action is the best way to demonstrate the value you could bring to the company and role you’re applying for.

There are a number of ways you can highlight research experience on your resume:

In a dedicated section

In your work experience, in your education section, listing research publications, in a projects section, in your skills section, in your resume summary.

Let's take a look at each of these options in a little more depth. But first, let's look at an annotated example to help set the context.

How to list research experience on a resume - an annotated example

If you come from a research background, you might want to title your work experience ‘Research.’ Alternatively, you could create two experience sections — one titled ‘Work Experience’ and one titled ‘Research Experience’ — if you also have a lot of non-research experience but want to highlight your most relevant experience first. You can go into more detail when applying for a research-focused role by describing the project and specifying the nature of the research and your role in it.

Create a dedicated Research Experience section to emphasize the depth of your research experience.

More information: How to title different sections of your resume

Including research experience in your main work experience section is appropriate if it was paid work or if it was your most recent and relevant experience. List the employer — for example, the university or research department — job title, dates, and accomplishments, just like you would any other work experience.

List research in your work experience section using action verbs, accomplishments, and metrics.

More information: How to list your work experience on your resume

If you’re a current student or recent graduate, you can list your education section at the top of your resume. You can also make this section a little more comprehensive if you don’t have a lot of work experience, by including things like awards, coursework, and academic research.

If you undertook research as part of your studies and it demonstrates skills relevant to the job you’re applying for, list your research accomplishments in bullet points under the education section of your resume.

If you have a lot of publications that came out of your research, and you want to draw attention to them — and if they’re relevant to the job you’re applying for — consider creating a separate publications section . Formal publications like these are an excellent way to add credibility to your research experience.

List each publication in a new bullet point with the title, year, and name of the magazine, website, or journal. Academic publications can be listed more formally if it’s relevant, like if you’re applying for graduate school or a role in academia.

When it comes to listing research on your resume, like other soft skills, you need to show you’ve used this skill in your previous roles by showcasing your research related accomplishments. Upload your resume to the tool below to find out if your resume highlights your most relevant research experience and achievements.

If your research experience is less extensive or wasn’t quite relevant enough to include alongside your work experience or education, you can still highlight it in a projects section. Keep this brief and include 1-2 bullet points showcasing your key research accomplishments.

Research skills can go in your skills section — as long as they’re hard skills. Steer clear of listing generic skills like “Research” — instead, use our keyword finder to look for relevant skills and keywords and include specific hard skills like data analysis, project management, software proficiency, and certifications.

You can also use the skills search tool below to get a list of hard skills relevant to the research-focused role you’re applying for.

If you’re applying for a position where research experience is essential, consider emphasizing your experience by including a short resume summary at the top of your resume. This should include the title of the job you’re applying for and a brief overview of your background and key skills.

Examples of listing research experience on your resume

No matter where you choose to include it, always list research experience in concise, accomplishment-focused bullet points . These should follow the structure of action verb + what you did + what the result was. Here are some examples of resume bullet points you can use or modify to suit your own research experiences.

Highlight research projects

  • Assisted with cell development research projects as part of the Leukemia Research team — identifying cell changes, determining cell counts and coulter counters with 98% accuracy.

If you have significant research experience, describe it! The more relevant it is to the position you’re applying for, the more detail you can go into. Make sure to specify exactly what stages of research you worked on and what your contribution was.

Mention awards for your research

  • Awarded “Total Quality Award” in recognition of consistent high standards of quality work for research excellence (only 3 awarded in class of 500).

If the high quality of your work has been acknowledged by an award, early promotion , or similar outside recognition, include it! In addition to the name of the award or accolade, don’t forget to specify context (e.g. 'out of class of 500 people' to increase its credibility.

Demonstrate technical expertise

  • Created over 75 3D models with CAD tools such as Solidworks and ANSYS.

If you have experience with specific software or tools that you’ll be using in the position you’re applying for, include a bullet point accomplishment specifying how you’ve used them. While this isn't direct 'research' experience, it uses tools that are relevant to research projects — this is a good way of showing that you have research skill sets without having formal research experience.

Use 'research-focused' action verbs

  • Researched and edited two articles and one book chapter on prenatal substance abuse, policy implication of Human Genome Project.

Use action verbs like "Researched" or "Scoured" which clearly emphasize research skills. In some cases (like in this example), you can list publications in your bullet points itself. If you’ve authored academic papers, books, or articles, this is a great way to show the validity and importance of your research.

Include accomplishments related to research studies

  • Oversaw screening and recruitment of over 100 participants to study, liaised with laboratory personnel and site coordinators to ensure study is completed on time with 100% success.

Not all research positions involve pure research. Make sure you highlight appropriate related accomplishments, like managing research study participant data and enrolments or managing a team of research assistants.

Include accomplishments relating to research in your field

  • Conducted legal research; organized and analyzed data and evidence for over 50 cases annually.

If research is part of the job description, make sure you include at least one bullet point highlighting how you’ve used those skills in the past. Including metrics, like the number of cases you’ve researched, contextualizes your accomplishments and helps them stand out.

  • Conducted marketing research for both buy-side and sell-side resulting in 15 strong leads.

Research isn’t just limited to science and academia. Demonstrate your skills in action by the context and end results of your research, like the number of leads it generated or the increase in sales figures.

how to describe project experience in resume

There are two methods you can use for adding projects to your resume: List your projects in separate bullet points or short paragraphs beneath each work experience and education entry. List your projects in a dedicated section on your resume. Typically, you'll want to use the first method (bullet point or short paragraph) for your work and ...

Use action words. When describing each project on your resume, focus on using action verbs that properly showcase your abilities. For example, you might use words such as "created," "managed," "developed," "established," "directed" and "coordinated." Related: 195 Action Verbs To Make Your Resume Stand Out.

Include important details. You should add enough information about each project that it can be easily understood by anyone who reads your resume. Identify the projects that align best with the job requirements. It is important to prioritise and highlight the projects that add the most value to your resume over those that may not. Once you have the list of the projects, describe the deliverables, tasks, skills and results to validate your expertise. 3.

1. Review the jobs to which you plan to apply. Project resumes are effective when you write them for the particular positions you're applying for rather than using a general resume. Review the job description and identify the specific skills, knowledge, and experiences the employer seeks. Then, make a list of your skills, knowledge and ...

Number projects sequentially. Project 1, 2, 3, etc. Write a project name. Then include the company and your position. Keep project descriptions brief. Keep your project descriptions concise but substantial. Provide just enough details to demonstrate your skills, experience, and successes relevant to the employer's requirements for the role you want. 1. Create a dedicated section for your professional experience. First, choose an appropriate title like "professional experience" or "work experience" for the section of your resume where you'll list your past jobs. For each job, include the following information: Job title. Company name.

How: At the bottom of your resume, or on the side if you prefer a two-column format. Title your section 'Additional Projects' or 'Other.'. If you're using a general 'Other' section including skills, etc. add a 'Projects' subheading. List each project briefly in 1-2 lines, including what you did and what the results were.

Essential project details to include in a resume. At a minimum, projects on your resume should include: The project title. A short description of the project. The dates you worked on the project. Who or what the project was for, e.g. your employer, school, or personal project. Your specific role.

2. Include a "Key Projects" Subsection under a Work Experience Description. Another way to list your projects in a resume is to highlight "Key Projects" under a work experience section. Crucial projects for big clients are always eye-catching. Small projects that are experimental or insightful are informative as well.

Here's how to write a resume that'll capture the essence of your qualifications. 1. Tailor Your Resume With the Right Keywords. When you submit an online application or resume for a project manager opportunity, it's usually directed to an applicant tracking system (or ATS ).

So, here's how to list work experience on a resume, step by step: 1. Make the Section Heading Stand Out. Label your resume work experience section with one of the following titles: Work Experience. Experience. Employment History. Work History. Make the section title larger than the rest of your job descriptions.

Include your project using a bullet list in the work experience, academic, or resume summary sections. This makes your resume more organized and also helps to highlight the project for the hiring manager. Try to keep the number of bulleted lists as uniform as possible for a more professional-looking resume.

1. Select a resume format. You can choose a resume format that matches your skills and experience in the field. Select one that allows you to highlight your strengths, which may help make you a more appealing candidate. If you have the required project specialist skills and experience, you can use a chronological format.

Here are the steps you can take to list projects on your resume effectively: 1. Determine the skills you want to emphasise. Before listing your projects on your resume, think about the skills you want to emphasise. You can review the job advertisement to get an idea of what the employer is looking for in a candidate.

For example, you learned workflow processes from overseeing a project management system, or you know the inner workings of a sales cycle after working with a particular lead generation software. 4. Write strong action verbs ... The example shown above is one of many ways to describe your experience on your resume. You must be succinct with your ...

Project management resume samples. Project management is the art of keeping a team coordinated and on-task in pursuit of a specific goal. Project managers need a unique skill set, including both managerial experience and hands-on industry knowledge. Time management and interpersonal skills are essential to this field, too.

Describing projects in your resume gives potential employers a solid, real-life look at the specific types of work you can produce. When selecting the types of projects to include, choose ones with measurable objectives and proven outcomes. The way you present the examples should show your capabilities in direct relation to the type of work you ...

Here's how you can do that: First, stick to the following work experience order: job title, position, company name, description, location, achievements, responsibilities, dates employed. This ensures maximum readability and makes it easy for the HR manager to jump to the relevant keywords they're looking for.

1. Create a Separate Section for Projects or Add to "Work Experience". If you have considerable professional experience and multiple projects to include on your software engineer resume, it's advisable to create a separate section for projects. This will increase resume clarity and let your work experience stand out.

There are a number of ways you can highlight research experience on your resume: In a dedicated section. In your work experience. In your education section. Listing research publications. In a projects section. In your skills section. In your resume summary.
