7 Best Travel Agencies in Singapore for Elderly-Friendly Family Tours

moneysmart

In Singapore, travelling is not only reserved for fit singletons with few responsibilities on their back. Despite having young children or retiree parents, the sandwiched generation aspires to travel at least once yearly.

When it comes to travelling with different generations, travel agencies can help to organise fuss-free tours where there’s no need to choose where to go and what to eat at every juncture. While younger folks might find this torture in itself, for families, it means fewer decisions to agonise over and quarrel about. Plus, you get to meet other families and your retiree parents can also meet fellow senior citizens.

Looking at the prices that we’ve found below, tour agencies don’t always cost more than going free and easy too. Which tour agency should you go to if you’re looking for a fuss-free family holiday?

Best tour agencies for senior citizens 2022

Of course, do keep in mind that package prices are not all there is to your holiday expenditure. You have to take into account entrance fees to optional attractions and shopping budgets.

Community Centre/ Residents’ Corner Organised Tour Packages

The nearest CC and RC used to be a good place to start if one was looking for cheap and easy trips to neighbouring countries or nearby islands. Since the target audience were mainly senior citizens to begin with, it will be a good chance for people of that age group to mingle and make friends.

Furthermore, the prices were very affordable. A 2D1N Malacca or Batam guided trip was less than $200 per person pre Covid-19, inclusive of return transport and 4-star accommodation.  Singaporean citizens and PRs also enjoyed subsidised rates. These trips aren’t available currently, but you can watch out for upcoming trips at the onePA events site .

CTC Travel used to be best known for their trips in Asia, particularly unique tours to China destinations like Huangshan and Jiuzhaigou.

That said, there are trips venturing to Brunei, Taiwan, Vietnam or Cambodia too. The prices are reasonable if you’re happy to do without the fancy hotels although you usually can opt to top-up and upgrade to 5-star hotels.

CTC Travel allows you to customise your own trips if being herded into buses on a tight time frame is not your travel style. The more adventurous can get to explore more authentic accommodation options such as homestays, farm stays, camper vans etc.

If lazing around and gorging on good food is one’s idea of a perfect holiday, there are also cruises to choose from too.

CTC Travel also used to offer unique tours that are hosted by celebrities and radio DJs. It’s really cheesy, but if you or your retired parents had a favourite celebrity, it used to be quite an experience to have him/her as their tour guide.

Having read through the reviews on their Facebook page, it seems their tour leaders are dependable and knowledgeable. They go beyond their job scope to help out in the little things like carrying bags for the elderly, providing medication when someone is unwell and helping to serve meals so that everyone can get their food quickly. Based on that, it seems like young children and senior citizens will be well taken care of.

For families travelling with senior citizens who love the scenery and history of Europe, SA Tours offers a myriad of choices at very reasonable prices.

A 10-day Switzerland tour to 5 scenic destinations costs $4,589 while an 12-day Europe tour to 6 cities costs $3,689, while a 12-day trip to Switzerland, France, and Germany costs $4,189.

Past reviews (from pre-Covid times) revealed that their tour guides offer great insights. SA Tours books their customers to Europe on Emirates flights and accommodation ranges from 4 to 5-star hotels depending on destination.

On top of the very reasonable prices, SA Tours often have promotions too.

WTS Travel  currently offers destinations to Holland, Spain, France, Italy, Germany, and Switzerland, which sets them apart from the other agencies so far. Other destinations are quite usual including Batam, Bintan, South Korea, Malaysia, and Thailand.

With WTS Travel, one can choose between the basic free and easy tours or upgrade themselves to guided tours. Take Melbourne, for example, you sign on to a basic free and easy tour package, and get to top up for scenic road and beach tours, winery tours, or wildlife sanctuary tours.

If you’re too lazy to figure out a Royal Caribbean booking by yourself, you can also sign up for a Royal Caribbean cruise with WTS Travel.

ASA Holidays

Current destinations offered by ASA Travel  include Seoul, Busan, Santorini, Holland, Istanbul, Turkey, and France. These are pretty adventurous places for young couples and single travellers.

Prices are quite competitive at $3,368 for Spain and Portugal, $3,968 for Spain, $3,648 for Holland, $4,218 for Italy, Switzerland, and France, and more. They offer quality airlines and accommodation types so families can travel in comfort.

ASA Travel used to also offer exclusive cruise tours like 16, 18 or 22-day Alaska cruise + Canadian Rockies pre Covid-19. These were pretty pricey at $4,588 to $7,488 but… these were super atas  dream retirement holidays.

Dynasty Travel

Dynasty Travel has been around for over 40 years and is well recognised as an award-winning agency. Their tour prices are on the high side, but you can go on your trip with a peace of mind knowing everything will be well taken care of.

It’s great for families who need that added assurance by a company with good track record to ensure their comfort and enjoyment.

Their website used to be one of the best, allowing you to compare prices based on different departure dates. You could even select your preferred airlines and make payment online. However, the Dynasty Travel website seems like it’s taken too long a hiatus over Covid-19 and currently doesn’t show you any available tours or prices. To give an idea of how much it used to cost, an 11D8N Italy tour in 2019 pre-Covid was priced around $4,500 and an 11D9N New Zealand tour with farm stay was approximately $5,288 before taxes.

Although most of us now prefer to book travel tours online, you might have to go old school once again and call up or visit one of the Dynasty Travel stores to pick up their tour group brochures.

Chan Brothers

Chan Brothers is another trusted name in Singapore like Dynasty Travel, having won several awards in the past. In terms of comfort level, Chan Brothers probably offers one of the best. The agency t ypically flies their customers on Singapore Airlines, as long as the destination allows, and they arrange quality five-star hotels as accommodation.

They also offer the largest number of tours. Some exotic ones are like Israel, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Georgia, Armenia and Uzbekistan. Chan Brothers, similar to CTC Travel, used to have tours hosted by celebrities and radio DJs.

They used to offer a selection of celebrity tours so if  you couldn’t find your favourite DJ on CTC, you could have found him/her on Chan Brothers instead. Another tour that was great for senior citizens was the D.I.Y Holiday farm tour which was customisable and you could determine the travel type (very luxury, luxury, normal or budget) and the location.

If you haven’t decided on your family tour location, we suggest something like “a city with mountains”. It sounds like it could be a great multi-generational holiday.

Got senior citizen discount?

At the time of writing, there weren’t any specific senior citizen promotional tours going on at the agencies. However, given that Mother’s Day and Father’s Day are coming up soon, you might want to ask in store for special promotions to treat your parents on a holiday.

However, senior citizens can flash their identity card or passport to get a discount off entrance fees and local modes of transportation that are not included in the travel package.

Don’t forget to choose the right travel insurance

It’s important to be well insured for travels, especially for senior citizens who tend to have more vulnerable health conditions. Senior citizens falling ill right before the trip and not being able to get a refund or a postponement of trip is not uncommon. Worse, falling ill during the trip incurs high emergency medical costs.

Travel insurance  (make sure it comes with Covid-19 coverage) has always been an optional add-on item when booking tours with the agencies. Although they have tie-ups with insurance agencies and offer a more seamless experience of booking everything all at the same place, do some comparison research on MoneySmart to look for the best Covid-19 coverage and cost .

Note that buying travel insurance for senior citizens can be a tricky affair as many insurers reduce their coverage for travellers above 70 years old.

Tips for Senior Travelers in Singapore

In Singapore, you'll find very few hotels that offer senior citizen discounts; however, every attraction with an entrance fee offers a special discounted rate, and some tour companies will quote you a better rate as well. Be warned that in Singapore you're considered a senior citizen at the age of 55 -- you either love it or hate it!

Upon request, the STB can also help plan your trip and can offer its own advice for senior travelers. Regarding this service, here's my advice: If you work out your itinerary with the help of STB, make sure you're firm about time constraints. Many of the tours and daily itineraries are rushed, with little time for a rest here and there. A common complaint is exhaustion by the end of just 1 day. In the heat, this is not only uncomfortable, but dangerous as well.

Note : This information was accurate when it was published, but can change without notice. Please be sure to confirm all rates and details directly with the companies in question before planning your trip.

Landlocked Mongolia, affectionately called as “The Land of the Eternal Blue Sky” among locals, is located between Russia to the north and China to the south, deep within the interior of eastern Asia far from any ocean. The country has a marked continental climate, with long cold winters and short cool-to-hot summers. Its remarkable variety of scenery consists largely of upland steppes, semideserts, and deserts, although in the west and north forested high mountain ranges alternate with lake-dotted basins. Mongolia is largely a plateau, with an average elevation of about 1,580 metres above sea level. The highest peaks are in the Mongolian Altai Mountains (Mongol Altain Nuruu) in the southwest, a branch of the Altai Mountains system. Some three-fourths of Mongolia’s area consists of pasturelands, which support the immense herds of grazing livestock for which the country is known. The remaining area is about equally divided between forests and barren deserts, with only a tiny fraction of the land under crops. With a total population of fewer than three million, Mongolia has one of the lowest average population densities of any country in the world.

Negombo is known for its long sandy beaches and centuries old fishing industry. Negombo has a large bilingual (Sinhala/Tamil) population with a clear Roman Catholic majority. Matale, this midsize regional city at the heart of the island lies in a broad, fertile valley at an elevation of 300m. Matale is a featureless urban sprawl with a congested one-way system, so you're unlikely to want to linger long. However, the road north of town is lined with dozens of visitor-friendly spice plantations where vanilla, rubber, cinchona, jackfruit, cocoa and cardamom thrive. The area is also famous for kohila (a type of watercress) and small, milNuwara Eliya - The ‘Little England’ of Sri Lanka, is set against beautiful backdrops of Mountains, Valleys, Waterfalls and Tea Plantations. It is supposed to be one of the coolest places in the Island, but it is really just like an English spring day, although the temperature does drop at night. All around Nuwara Eliya you see evidence of the British influence, houses like country cottages or Queen Ann style mansions. Seasons may be absent elsewhere in Sri Lanka, but here you can read them by the flowers, which bloom in the spring (March to May) and the fall (August and September). These are the “seasons” when low-country folk flock to Nuwara Eliya to escape the sea level heat and humidity. d chilies.

Picture a village inhabited by all the different types of Thai fruit. A group of exuberant young grapes and rambutans goof off as pretty lychees and strawberries giggle. A cheerful rose apple works in the garden as well-dressed pineapples gossip with ripe papayas about the carefree oranges, mangoes and coconuts mixing it up on the beach. An awkward banana sits away from the others, deep in thought, and withered old melons gripe about “grapes these days”. But when the durian comes to town, everyone drops what they’re doing to pay respect to this, the undeniable king of Thai fruits. Like a playground in the sun, the East Coast is known for its beautiful beaches, and runs from just east of Bangkok all the way down to Ban Hat Lek in Trat, which borders Cambodia. The region encompasses the coastal provinces of Chonburi, Rayong, and Chanthaburi and Trat. Thailand's east has much to offer, from delectable fruits to lush forests. Chanthaburi and Rayong duo City Trip double the fun as you can satisfy your adventurous spirit while gratifying your craving for seasonal tropical fruits.

8 Places in Singapore With Exclusive Discounts for Seniors

29 Sep 2022

discounts for SG seniors

Sometimes it’s good to re-acquaint ourselves with this Little Red Dot we call home, especially since Singapore is such a dynamic city with new attractions cropping up regularly. The problem is, we all know Singapore is an expensive city to live in, and exploring these wonders could burn a hole in your wallet.

But if you’re a senior, i.e. 60 and above, we’ve got great news for you: Most of these venues and attractions offer discounts and concessions to seniors! Start planning your outings using this list.

Wildlife Reserves Singapore Group

wildlife_reserves_singapore

If you love animals and want to know more about their habitats and behaviour, why not explore the Singapore Zoo, Jurong Bird Park, River Wonders, and Night Safari? There’s plenty to see at these four attractions, and you might need days to cover everything, so space out your visits to every few weeks or even once a month. You’re sure to discover something new each time you go!

Senior rate : Tickets for seniors 60 years old and older are at $20 for each of these attractions. However, there are special bundle packages if you book tickets for two or more parks at the same time. Present your Identity Card (IC) when buying tickets. For more information, check their website: https://www.mandai.com

Singapore Flyer

singapore_flyer

There’s nothing like seeing the Singapore cityscape from high up, and one of the best ways to do that is to go on the Singapore Flyer. The view looks mesmerising in the day, and breathtaking at night, so consider giving both experiences a try!

Senior rate : PAssion and Silver cardholders get 15% off Singapore Flyer and Time Capsule tickets. For more information, please visit https://www.singaporeflyer.com

Gardens by the Bay

gardens_by_the_bay

Depending on where you go within the enormous Gardens by the Bay complex, you can explore for free (the exterior gardens) or pay as little as $5 to $8 (for seniors) to go up the OCBC Skyway, or enter the Flower Dome or Cloud Forest.

Senior rate : However, if you want a more immersive experience, there are several packages available that cost between $12 and $20, depending on the combination of attractions. You may also find it worthwhile to apply for a Friends of the Gardens membership, which costs $60 yearly for seniors (regular adult price is $65/year). For more information, please go to https://gardensbythebay.com.sg

sentosa

Want to get out of Singapore, without actually leaving Singapore? Head to Sentosa Island, where Singaporeans and permanent residents aged 60 and older enjoy exclusive discounts and deals at participating establishments on weekdays.

Senior rate : Want to ride the cable cars? Get more than 90% off the Cable Car Sky Pass (Round Trip). Other privileges include: one-for-one tickets to Madame Tussauds Singapore; 50% off 4-in-1 combo tickets for Sentosa 4D Adventureland, and $5 round-trip ferry tickets from Sentosa Cove jetty to Lazarus Island. Senior citizens need to present a valid IC/PAssion Silver concession card at the attraction to enjoy the privileges. For more information, please visit https://www.sentosa.com.sg

Esplanade — Theatres on the Bay

esplanade_theatres_on_the_bay

Fancy watching one of the world-class performances that regularly stopover in Singapore? Head over to Esplanade which mounts some of the country’s best shows across a wide variety of cultures and genres. Aside from its world-class shows, the Esplanade has implemented various schemes and initiatives to provide greater accessibility and inclusion for people of different abilities, especially the young and seniors, making it a great place for seniors who are interested in the arts and musical performances.

Last year, it worked closely with AIC to become the first dementia-friendly arts venue in Singapore. It is the first such venue to become a Dementia Go-To Point (GTP), serving as a resource centre for useful information on dementia and linking those who need help with dementia-related services.

Senior rate : PWDs and seniors get concessionary rates for most of Esplanade’s programmes. The concession extends to the accompanying companion. For those who are into the arts, you can apply for an Esplanade&Me membership, which has three tiers, depending on how frequently you want to watch the performances. Get access to priority booking, save on your tickets and enjoy promotions at Esplanade Mall and its partners. Members aged 55 and over receive a JOYears badge that gives them access to senior concessions on selected shows. For more information, please visit https://www.esplanade.com

ArtScience Museum

artscience_museum

For a different kind of museum experience, head to the ArtScience Museum. Exhibitions change regularly, but you can always find something that will tickle your fancy.

Senior rate : Admission varies based on the exhibitions you want to see, though seniors are eligible for concession prices. There are also discounted bundle prices if you want to visit two or more exhibitions in one day. Visit their website for more details: https://www.marinabaysands.com

National Gallery of Singapore

national_gallery_of_singapore

Singapore’s newest and largest museum is always worth a trip. Go for the artworks, stay for the architecture — or vice versa. Entry for general admission is free for Singaporeans and PRs, while entry to special exhibitions require purchasing a separate ticket.

Senior rate : If you’re into art, you might want to get a yearly Insider membership to the Gallery, worth $12 for seniors. An Insider membership gives you access to all exhibitions, Insiders-only events, priority to selected popular exhibits, priority bookings and discounts to selected programmes, members-only functions, among other privileges. Visit their website for more details: https://www.nationalgallery.sg

Southern Islands

southern_islands

Singapore has 64 islands, and you can actually explore some of them! Head over to Marina South Ferry and book a ticket for a whole day of island-hopping.

Senior rate : Only $12 for a ferry ticket to four islands — St John’s, Lazarus, Kusu, and Sisters’ Islands, including unlimited transfers. Visit the website to see the schedules: https://www.marinasouthferries.com

[2024] Senior Citizen Discounts and Benefits in Singapore

Looking for the best senior citizen discounts and benefits in singapore from one-for-one attraction tickets to dining discounts, here’s the ultimate list of senior citizen promotions you won't want to miss..

by Hannah Grey

Make Home Care Personal To Your Loved One

Hannah Grey

While not everyone may be looking forward to getting older, there is one thing that can make it worthwhile: senior citizen discounts. Thankfully, there are a myriad of perks and deals you can tap on once you become eligible. Check out Homage’s guide to the best senior citizen discounts Singapore has to offer!

Who is eligible for senior citizen discounts in Singapore?

As stated in the Senior Citizen Act of Singapore, anyone who is at least 60 years of age is considered a senior citizen and is eligible for these benefits. While the Act only considers those aged 60 years and above as seniors, certain establishments extend their senior citizen discounts to individuals as young as 55 years old!

Similar to military personnel and healthcare employees, senior discounts are commonly offered as a sign of respect for our elders. After having contributed to society in their own way during their early days, it simply serves as a small token of appreciation for their hard work. Here in Singapore, the elderly are certainly not exempted from these privileges.

From lower-priced telco prices, discounted tickets to popular attractions, and cheaper trips to the grocery stores, here are the best discounts and benefits that can help senior citizens in Singapore stretch their dollar!

Transportation

On top of a more senior-friendly transport system, elderly adults can enjoy discounted public transportation fares as well. Senior citizens are eligible to apply for a Senior Citizen Concession Card once they are 60 years old, which allows them to enjoy concessionary fares for bus and train services.

Seniors aged 60 years old and above can also make use of a monthly Hybrid Concession Pass (HCP), which costs $64 for one month of unlimited travel on basic bus and train services. Compared to the $128 Adult Monthly Travel Pass (AMTP), seniors can enjoy 50% off on the same transportation privileges.

This pass can be conveniently purchased at any SimplyGo Ticketing Service Centre, ticket office, SimplyGo Kiosk, Assisted Service Kiosk, or via the SimplyGo Portal and SimplyGo app. Simply head to any of the MRT stations or bus interchanges to apply for your card!

Groceries and supermarkets

Some of the country’s biggest grocery store chains, including NTUC FairPrice, Sheng Siong, and Cold Storage, have introduced designated shopping days for seniors along with discounts exclusively for them. By doing so, it reduces crowding at the stores significantly and ensures that the elderly remain safe.

These are the following supermarkets that offer discounts to senior citizens:

Pharmacies and health retailers

Pharmacies and health chains in Singapore are also among the many establishments that offer exclusive discounts for seniors. Take a look at the various perks offered by Watsons, Guardian, and Unity Pharmacy!

From restaurants to casual dining, these are some of the best dining discounts for seniors in Singapore. Please check with the respective merchants on any updated opening hours and promotion details/validity before visiting.

Along with the Seniors Go Digital initiative launched by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), some of the country’s top telco companies are offering senior-exclusive mobile plans to assist elderly adults on their digital journey.

Below is a list of senior discounts on various contracts provided by our local telco companies:

Whether you want to enjoy a fun day in the sun at Wild Wild Wet or immerse yourself in art and culture at the ArtScience Museum, there’s bound to be something for everyone.

Want to head over to the cinema and enjoy a blockbuster hit? Take advantage of discounted movie tickets that can go as low as $4!

Gym and wellness facilities

Keeping fit doesn’t always have to be about going to the most expensive gym or fitness centre. Sometimes, the best options are right under your nose. Besides your neighbourhood fitness corners, seniors can visit any public ActiveSG location to get access to fitness facilities without breaking the bank.

Life beyond 50+ is so exciting, especially when you are with like-minded young people and want to enjoy life like kid. This is how I would like to summarize 50+ Voyagers. My mom for the first time travelled alone with a group of strangers but she came back with lifelong friends and memories to cherish. I am so glad that I could facilitate creating this memory for her during recent Ladakh trip. Very well organised, all thanks to Sangita who personally took care of everyone on the trip. Pictures of this event are saying a lot more. How I wish I was 50+ too ! Looking forward to creating more memories for my mom with you.

The life starts at 50 is what I fully endorse after joining Ladakh trip 3rd-11th August 2016. Every person has a child within, let it come out and there can be no better way than joining 50+ Voyagers Travel and Adventure Club. I was a bit skeptical and apprehensive of joining it but now I think it has been my one of the best decisions to be a part of it. The itinerary was properly planned right from the flights to hotels to sightseeing. Everything was hassle free. In a nut shell it was adventurous, amazing and awesome experience. Thank you Sangita for making me feel younger and healthier.

Due to the age factor (78+), going alone anywhere gives me a little scare. When I came to know about 50+ Voyagers and booked Coorg tour with them, I was in the beginning skeptical how the services would be. However, when the day arrived to commence the 3 days holidays, everything from pick up from my house till they dropped me back at home - went off in the most pleasant and smooth manner. The accommodation was the best one could imagine nice cottages among a 250 acres of coffee estate, where nature showed its splendor. I would say that 50+ Voyagers is the ideal organization to look for those who have crossed 50. The service rendered by them is superb. I am looking forward to my next holiday with 50+ Voyagers.

At the outset, my wife (aged 66 with knee problem) and I (70 years) were apprehensive as to whether we would be able to undertake the Himachal Pradesh tour given mountainous and hilly area conditions. Well after horse-riding at Kufri, I could see from expressions on the face of my wife that she had got her confidence back and had almost forgotten her knee pain. Advantage of travelling with 50+ Voyagers is that all are of almost same age, group being almost on same wave length, customized visiting places, cohesiveness and careful planning. I recommend to my friends of above fifty to avail themselves of the facilities provided by the 50+ Plus Voyagers Travel and Adventure Club. I am sure you will agree that age is just a number.

3 Cheers 50+ Voyagers for arranging this wonderful tour to Kenya. One of the most amazing, satisfying and enjoyed tours to Kenya. Did not realise how one week just flew. Still living in the world of the wild animals and keep looking at all the pictures. Though it was a very rough terrain with no roads we did not feel it then. Was it the company we were in or just being amongst nature ? It was worth it and would love to take more tours with them. Going to Nagaland Hornbill Festival with 50+ Voyagers in December. Hats off to 50+ Voyagers Travel and Adventure Club for catering to us 60+

It was my 5th trip with 50+ Voyagers, when I went on a 8 day trip to Sri Lanka ! My first international! Everything was taken care well - My safety being a single lady, the company that I want, to share my views and experiences while travelling together with like minded, same aged men and women who are relaxed with no hassles of not getting leave from work place, and with relaxed mindset to enjoy life after finishing duties towards children.. what more you want? In the last trip to Srilanka, I found myself climbing 1700 steps to top of lion rock fort at 200ft height which I thought was unbelievable!

Best Singapore Tour Packages in 2024

One of Asia’s most sought after destinations, Singapore is a definite world-class city with a modern sky-line. As a country it is a tale of re-invention, which is a key feature of Singapore travel. The currency of this country is the Singapore Dollar . The best places to visit in Singapore are those that have successfully combined the ancient and modern facets of this country’s culture. Holding its own in global gastronomy, Singapore stands out for its food which forms an interesting and essential aspect of Singapore sightseeing.

The vibrant Singapore nightlife that keeps the city on its toes even in the wee hours of the day will make your Singapore travel experience even more exhilarating! Whether you are a solo traveller, a family looking for child-friendly activities, or a couple looking for a memorable honeymoon, Singapore never fails to leave its visitors spellbound! With a Singapore travel package, you really can’t go wrong.

The small tropical island nation of Singapore is a combination of a modern city center, and mushrooming residential areas in the periphery. 50 % of the country is wrapped in green cover with natural parks and nature reserves, earning it the tagline of ‘garden-city’. Surrounded by the sea on all sides, Singapore is a very busy port city and one of the most prosperous countries in Asia. This urban island country is a perfect meeting point of modern architecture and international cultures with a medley of Chinese, Indian and Malay cultures which makes Singapore travel extremely enriching for the visitor.

Best time to visit Singapore

Being a tropical country, Singapore is generally hot and humid all year round which accordingly determines the theme of Singapore tourism. Located in Southeast Asia, the island state is thronged by tourists all throughout the year. As such, any time is the best time to visit Singapore. The high heat and humidity makes the Singapore weather fairly consistent.  However, there are certain events and holidays which can lead to a particularly high influx of tourists in Singapore from all across the world.

Summer (July to September) is the festive season in Singapore, which makes it a very favorable time for a Singapore trip. This is the time when famous Singapore tourism events like the Singapore Food Festival and the Great Singapore Sale showcase the cultural pluralism of Singapore.

Spring (February to April) bring pleasant Singapore weather, making it a fairly good time for Singapore sightseeing.   Winter (November-January) has its own beauty and attraction if you wish to plan a Singapore holiday during your kid’s winter vacation.  The festive holiday dates of Christmas, New Year’s Eve, and the Chinese New Year, are the busiest days in the year for Singapore travel, as many tourists visit Singapore, making the airlines and hotel prices soar. If you wish to book a low-cost Singapore package, you this may not be the best time to visit Singapore.

How to reach Singapore

In addition, one-stop or connecting flights to Singapore are also available from all major Indian cities.

By Train Singapore is connected to Kuala Lumpur and other Malaysian cities as well as to Indonesia and Thailand by rail. The Tanjong Pagar MRT station in Singapore is the busiest train station receiving a lot of traffic every day.  By Sea Being an island country, Singapore is quite well-connected through its waterways. Being a really busy port, Singapore is used as a base for cruises throughout the Southeast Asian region. There are also regular ferry services to ports in Malaysia and Indonesia.  By Road There are regular bus services to Singapore from Malaysia and other parts of mainland Asia. Two causeways connect the island country to other parts of Asia.

Singapore Visa for Indians

Indian nationals planning a Singapore holiday require a Singapore Visa for their travel. You can apply for a 30 Day Multiple Entry Visa through MakeMyTrip. This Singapore visa is valid for 35 days and usually takes 7-10 working days to get processed. You would need to submit certain documents like leave certificate, NOC, covering letter and original passport along with your passport size photographs for the Singapore visa application process.

Sentosa Island : Sentosa Island is Singapore’s golden paradise, popular with tourists as well as locals. Sentosa has all the best Singapore beaches such as

Siloso Beach, which is a good spot for water sports like kayaking, or Tanjong Beach. The various Singapore beaches are all man-made; they were created to encourage Singapore tourism, using sand imported from Malaysia. That said, the beaches are all lovely. Sentosa is also home to many popular Singapore attractions in the massive Resorts World . Visitors can get around Sentosa island using free buses and the free monorail service. Some popular family-friendly Singapore tourist attractions within the Resorts World include the Adventure Cove Water Park with 7 different water-based rides and slides and other water activities, and the Sentosa Nature Discovery with a variety of jungle habitats and forest trails. Sentosa is one of the most popular inclusions in a Singapore travel package for families.

Marina Bay Sands : Singapore is known for its famous and grand Marina Bay. It is a luxury resort location in Singapore with a hotel, a mall and a canal running through it. The Marina Bay Sands Skypark offers a vantage point from which you can enjoy panoramic views of Singapore and major Singapore tourist attractions. The Art Science museum is another attraction here with multiple exhibits on art, science and their inter-relatedness.

Singapore Flyer : The Singapore Flyer stands out in the Singapore skyline as a giant observation wheel that takes in the entire city. Standing 165m tall, this is the second-largest observation wheel in the world and offers brilliant views of the cityscape in a 30 minute ride. From the Singapore Flyer you will be able to enjoy unforgettable views of various Singapore tourist places like Marina Bay, the river, the Colonial district, the tall glass skyscrapers of the CBD etc. On a clear day, you can even see ships on the South China sea. The Flyer looks particularly wonderful when lit up at night.

Gardens by the Bay:  Arguably one of the most popular places to visit in Singapore, Gardens by the Bay are Singapore’s futuristic botanic gardens established on reclaimed land in 2011. Popular sights here include the Flower Dome , showcasing exotic plants from five continents, the Cloud Forest with misty tropical mountain environs, a 30m high indoor waterfall and a Treetop Walk, the towering Supertrees and vertical gardens, and many more fabulous spots.

Universal Studios:  This Hollywood theme park on Sentosa island is an extremely popular Singapore tourist attraction. Divided into various zones, Universal Studios offers something for everyone irrespective of age. Younger children will enjoy the Sesame Street and Lost World themed attractions, while thrill-seeking adults would love Sci-Fi City where they can enjoy themed rollercoasters and 3D rides, Ancient Egypt’s dark Revenge of the Mummy rollercoaster, and more.

Singapore Zoo : The Singapore Zoo is a really impressive rainforest with an interesting range of animals. The Zoo is especially known for its Orangutans, but also houses Zebras, Polar Bears, Giraffes, African Lions etc. Hosting a wide range of animals, especially the exotic ones, the Singapore Zoo is definitely one of the most famous places to see in Singapore! A trip to this Zoo is one of the best things to do in Singapore if you have booked a Singapore package for families.

Jurong Bird Park:  One of the main Singapore tourist places to visit with your family, the Jurong Bird Park is a huge bird sanctuary that is home to about 400 different species of birds, many of them endangered species. Visitors can explore the Park either by walking around, or by taking the tram that travels through the Park. The Park is divided into different zones according to the habitat of the birds. Thus you can visit the penguins and even feed them at the Penguin Coast, visit different aviaries to see guinea fowl, hornbills, and colourful lory birds, watch the flamingos at Flamingo Lake, etc.  The Park also conducts regular fun activities for children, making it a must-visit place for families on a Singapore holiday.

The Changi Chapel and Museum : A World War II memorial, the Changi Chapel and Museum is a display of the country’s role in the War. It displays the letters, photographs, and personal artefacts bearing testaments to the thousands of civilians and soldiers affected by War.  The museum is earmarked by murals recreated from the original works by Stanley Warren. The Changi Chapel stands graciously in the museum’s open-air courtyard.

SEA Aquarium: Located on Sentosa Island, the SEA Aquarium is the world’s largest aquarium with over 100,000 sea creatures in 49 different marine habitats recreated painstakingly. You will find lionfish and lobsters in the South China Sea, Nemo and eels in the Bay of Bengal, fire shrimp and boxfish in the Red Sea and colourful reef fish in the Caribbean Sea. Watch sharks swim over your head in the Shark Tunnel, and marvel at jellyfish and deep sea octopus at the Ocean Journey exhibit. Children will love the daily feeding sessions and the huge Open Ocean tank with its sharks, stingrays and other fish. Add this Singapore attraction to your plan if you are travelling with children.

Madame Tussauds:  Strike at pose with Taylor Swift, Johnny Depp, Madonna, Serena Williams or David Beckham. Get your picture taken with Narendra Modi or Queen Elizabeth. Walk down the IIFA Awards red carpet and take photos with Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma, and Amitabh Bachchan. Enjoy a Marvel 4D Experience, the only one of its kind in Asia, and then hop aboard the “Spirit of Singapore” boat ride. All this and more is possible at Madame Tussauds, one of the most fun-filled Singapore attractions you can visit!

What to eat in Singapore

Singapore being a melting pot of cultures and traditions has a varied cuisine. Food makes up for a major Singapore attraction. A rich heritage of foods steeped in Indian, Malaysian, Indonesian and Chinese cultures, make up for the food scene in Singapore. Here are a few authentic dishes in Singapore which are a definite must-try during your Singapore holiday

Laksa: Laksa, being a mash-up of Chinese and Malay elements, is the perfect dish to try in Singapore. There are two main types, the curry laksa and asam laksa. It is traditionally made with vermicelli, coconut milk, fish slices, shrimp and cockles.

Chilli Crab: This is the national dish of Singapore and also featured in CNN’s list of the World’s top 50 most delicious foods. The dish is a simple one consisting of stir-fried crab served in savoury tomato-chilli sauce. If you enjoy seafood, this is one dish you must try on your Singapore trip. Hokkien Mee: This fried noodle dish is one of the most popular street foods in Singapore. It consists of a mix of yellow and white noodles, combined with bean sprouts and fried along with egg and sometimes seafood. Some hawkers serve it dry, some add a gravy.

Carrot Cake (Chai Tow Kway): This popular Singapore snack is made using radish, not carrots! Shredded daikon radish is mixed with rice flour, formed into rice cakes and fried along with eggs.

Wanton noodles: The Singaporean wanton noodles are influenced by the cuisine of Hong Kong and are typically eaten dry, with slices of pork char siew and wonton dumplings and served with a bowl of soup on side.

When in Singapore, trying out its unique food scene is a necessity to experience its varied culture!

Indian Food in Singapore

If the urge for home food strikes you while you are on your Singapore holiday, do not worry. There is an entire region called Little India in Singapore where you can find a huge variety of Indian restaurants offering dishes from various parts of India.

Some recommended Indian restaurants in Singapore are:

  • Riverwalk Tandoor, Farrer Park
  • Tandoori Restaurant, Kitchener Road
  • Sitara Restaurant , Serangon Road
  • Jewel of India, Park Royal on Kitchener Road

Cool things to do in Singapore

Now that you know all about the important places to visit in Singapore, we would also recommend that you take out some time for some authentic and offbeat experiences during your Singapore trip.

Here are some cool and interesting things to do in Singapore, which will elevate your Singapore itinerary beyond the normal to the extraordinary!

Explore authentic local neighbourhoods

No country exemplifies cultural and religious fusion better than Singapore does. Learn a little more about some of these cultures that contribute to Singapore tourism by exploring some of the ethnic neighbourhoods. Explore Chinatown , the vibrant neighbourhood characterized by red Chinese lanterns, scores of eateries and shopfronts, ancient heritage homes and upscale boutiques all co-existing cheerfully. The key Singapore tourist attractions here are the Chinese Heritage Centre, the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and the Sri Mariamman Hindu temple. Walk around Little India and the Arab Street areas, colourful neighbourhoods known for their celebrations of traditional festivals. The Sri Veeramakaliamma Temple and the Sultan Mosque are important places to see here.

Take your kids on the Night Safari

Nightlife of a different kind! The Singapore Night Safari is the world’s first nocturnal park, and is open only at night, every night. It is one of the most awarded Singapore tourist places and is very popular especially with children. The park can be toured conveniently via tram, and offers the opportunity to see nocturnal animals from different continents such as the Malayan Tiger, Asian Lion, Nile Hippo, White African Lion, Leopard, Giant Flying Squirrel, Tapir, Pangolin, Loris and more. If you are booking a Singapore package with your family, do ensure that you include this place in your Singapore itinerary. Children will also love the “Creatures of the Night” show.

Pick an adrenalin-pumping adventure

This destination offers a ton of options for the thrill-seekers looking to add an element of adventure to their Singapore holiday. At iFly Singapore on Sentosa Island, you will find the world’s largest wind tunnel for indoor skydiving. Also at Sentosa, you can try Bungy jumping with a view of Siloso beach, or enjoy the Giant Swing that takes you 40m high at speeds reaching 100km/hr. For those who love cars, Singapore offers the opportunity to drive Super Cars like the Lamborghini Huracan or the McLaren 12C on the Singapore F1 race route! Water sports enthusiasts can pick from knee-boarding, wakeboarding, and cable skiing at Singapore Wake Park , or enjoy stand-up paddling at Tanjong beach . Snorkelling and Scuba diving are also available at various island sites around Singapore. Add an adventurous twist to your Singapore honeymoon package by picking from any of these experiences!

Go on a Street Food exploration

Singapore is a true haven for the foodie. The Hawker centres here are a Singapore attraction in their own right. Hawker centres of Singapore are essentially groups of street food stalls arranged like food courts, offering everything from snacks to entire meals. A Singapore holiday is incomplete without experiencing at least one of these. Try the Chinatown Complex or the Old Airport Road Food Centre to eat like a local. The Hong Lim Food Centre and Golden Mile Food Centre are not only amazingly good, they also offer some vegetarian options. Alternatively, explore Bugis Street for its various street food options.

Admire the colourful Ann Siang Hill

If you’ve seen the film “Crazy Rich Asians”, this is the place with the gorgeous pastel coloured shopfronts that was featured in the movie. Ann Siang Hill used to be the residential enclave of the wealthy in the 19 th century; it is now famous for its insta-worthy coloured shophouses and its happening cafes, boutiques, clubs and restaurants.

Take a river cruise

Starting from Clarke Quay, a River Cruise is a great and relaxing way to see some of the Singapore tourist attractions. You will experience a ride on the iconic Singapore bumboat – traditional wooden boats that were originally used to ferry cargo and people across the river. Enjoy views of Singapore attractions like the Merlion, Marina Bay Sands, Clarke Quay and the Singapore Flyer. If you take this cruise in the evening you can watch the attractions as they get illuminated. This is a great activity to include into your Singapore tour package.

Go shopping!!

Apart from Singapore sightseeing, a popular aspect of any Singapore travel package should be retail therapy! Visit Orchard Road for the latest in branded clothes and accessories, be it high street brands or haute couture. Alternatively, go to Haji Street to pick up unique finds at the independent designer stores and handicraft shops here. Bugis Street offers a lot of wallet-friendly street shopping for the fashion lovers, while the IMM Outlet Mall offers highly discounted outlet shopping for a range of fashion brands. In Little India, the Mustafa  mall is famous for offering cheap prices on a range of products.

Click your picture with the Merlion

The Merlion Park in Singapore is where the two most famous Merlion statues in Singapore can be seen – the main Merlion and a 2 metre tall Merlion “cub”. However, did you know that there are a total of 7 officially approved Merlion statues in Singapore? You can see a giant Merlion in Sentosa, and another one at Mount Faber.

Visit the world’s largest Orchid garden

The Singapore Botanic Gardens are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the best places to visit in Singapore if you are a nature lover. This huge garden houses over 10,000 plant species and is Singapore’s oldest existing garden space, a perfect location for a picnic or just a morning out in nature. One of the highlights of the Botanic Gardens is the National Orchid Garden , which has the world’s largest orchid display with over 60,000 plants and orchids available for visitors to marvel at. Another highlight of the Botanic Gardens is the Childrens’ Garden, where children are invited to play and learn about plant life. For a Singapore travel package with kids, this is definitely a fun thing to include in your plan.

Singapore nightlife experiences to add to your itinerary

One of the highlights of Singapore holiday packages is the vibrant nightlife of the city. Here are a few things to do in Singapore, without which your Singapore itinerary is incomplete. If you are looking to book a Singapore honeymoon package, pay special attention!

Sip on a cocktail

Singapore is known for its cocktail scene, replete with unique creations by some of the top-rated mixologists. The very famous Singapore Sling is a classic cocktail - a medley of gin, cherry brandy, benedictine, grenadine, and Cointreau, mellowed with lime and pineapple juice. The best place to have this drink is of course where it was invented – the Long Bar at The Raffles. The Raffles is set to reopen after an extensive renovation in 2019. Another cool version is Nutmeg & Clove’s Barrel Aged Singapura Sling , designed by the Taiwanese bartender Kae Yin. This is a spiced hibiscus-infused Tanqueray London Dry gin with Cherry Heering, a definite must-try! When in Singapore, don’t forget to taste the Benedictine Dom , which is a mix of goji & red date syrup, orange cream citrate and aromatic bitters in a wooden cask. Served out of a porcelain cup, perched on a rattan rickshaw, its serving style adds up to its authenticity!

Spin the dice at the Marina Bay Sands

An oasis of chic, the Marina Bay is one of the most iconic amongst the Singapore attractions.  Dotted with bars along the waters and a few out in the roof, Marina Bay Sands is quite a sight at night!  The Casino here is a huge gambling space spread over 4 levels. There are over 600 table games and 1,500 slots. The Marina Bay Sands is billed as one of the world’s most expensive casino properties. Take your Lady Luck along to try your luck here!

Enjoy the high at a rooftop bar

A drink in one of the rooftop bars around Singapore with a view of the Singapore night skyline is a must-do experience on your Singapore honeymoon package! Enjoy panoramic views from the world’s highest alfresco bar on the 63 rd floor at the 1 Altitude Bar , or head to the Lantern rooftop bar at the Fullerton Bay Hotel for unobstructed views of the water and the light show at the Marina Bay Sands. You could also visit Ce La Vi, the rooftop restaurant and bar at the Marina Bay Sands, one of the most popular places to visit in Singapore for a drink thanks to its amazing views. For something more unique, how about the Supertree by IndoChine – imagine having a drink while sitting atop the tallest Supertree at the Gardens by the Bay! If you are looking for a casual night out, try Loof for local flavours, happy hour deals and DJ music.

Go Bar hopping at Clark Quay

The party hub of Singapore, Clarke Quay is known for its nightlife, earmarked by dazzling lights and a kaleidoscope of night-clubs, pubs and bars along the Singapore River. Post sunset, there is a heightened sense of excitement as the area comes alive. Of all the bars in Singapore, Clarke Quay has some of the best in the business!  The Bar Cocoon, Bamboo Bar, the Forbidden City, Bar Opiume at the Empress Place along the river, and Attica deserve special mention!

Dance the night away at a club

If you enjoy dancing and partying, then Singapore has a lot to offer you. Enjoy the vibrant and colourful party scene in Singapore along with your friends or partner. If you are on a short trip to Singapore then don’t miss Zouk , the best nightclub in Singapore. For beach parties on the weekend, you cannot go wrong with the Tanjong Beach Club on Sentosa Island. Cherry Disco offers hip hop and disco for those who want a change from the usual EDM. For a premium experience, there is the Pangea , a super luxury club at the Marina Bay Sands.
