Islamabad to Skardu via Road

Skardu tour starts from the Capital city of Pakistan, Islamabad. If you opt for a road trip, you will experience a rich culture with a beautiful landscape as the road spirals across some of the most beautiful valleys and small towns, which makes it a lifetime road trip experience for you. While going to Skardu via road, you can take the marvelous Karakoram Highway, traveling along Indus and surrounded by high rising mountains, taking up to 20 hours.

Islamabad to Skardu via Air

However, if you feel like you want to directly get to Skardu and skip the scenic views that you experience along the way, you can go to Skardu via air. Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flies to Skardu daily, depending on the weather conditions.

The flight takes off from Islamabad Airport after crossing the Potohar and Haraza region it will fly above the Himalayan and Karakoram range to reach Skardu in the heart of Karakoram. Furthermore, if the weather is clear, you catch a glimpse of the Nanga Parbat , which is the 9th highest mountain in the world, and the K2 , which is the 2nd highest mountain in the world. Skardu-Islamabad is one of the scenic routes in the world of aviation.

This was the only flight to reach Skardu before but today we can go to Skardu from Lahore and Karachi as well, as PIA has started operating Flights to Skardu from Lahore and Karachi on weekly basis.

How Skardu look like?

Baltistan valley is synonymously known as Skardu valley located in the extreme north of Pakistan along the border of China and India. Skardu is also known as Little Tibet because most of the inhabitants are descendants of the Tibetian cast. Skardu is the capital of all-mountain adventures in Pakistan. Skardu is the epitome of serenity, wilderness, and beauty. The mountain vistas, high rising peaks, Lakes, Rivers, and even high-altitude deserts made Skardu a dream place for tourists.

The logistics and roads to the big mountains of Karakoram; K2 / Chogori, Broad Peak, Mashabrm, Gasherbrum, and many other prominent peaks originate from Skardu. Skardu is an epicenter of the whole Baltistan region, a modern city with all immunities is the base and passage to all valleys including Shigar valley , Khaplu valley , Kharmang Valley, Basho Valley and Asotre valley via Deosai is from Skardu. Skardu Tour at a Glance

Our Skardu tour package includes a detailed visit of each valley and tourist spot of the Baltistan region. We will start our tour from Islamabad via Karakoram highway to Chilas or Naran Kaghan to Chilas city. The very next day we will drive to Skardu from Chilas City. On our first day in Skardu, we will visit Upper Kachura Lake and Shangri la lakes and will go to Kharpocho fort and the organic Village. In the coming days, we have Khaplu valley the famous places in Khaplu are The Fort and Chaqchan Mosques, the valley is located at the bank of the Shyok river. Shigar Valley is also known as the adventure land of Pakistan because more than 90% of mountain adventure takes place in Shigar valley, four 8000m mountains are located in this valley. Prominent places to visit in Shigar are Blind Lake, Shigar Fort, Amburik Mosque, and Hashopi Garden, the cold desert is also on the way to Shigar valley.

The next Destination while the Skardu Trip will be Kharmang Valley the famous places include the Manthoka Waterfall and Khamosh waterfall, this valley is located on the bank of the Indus river which originates from India.  DAYS ITINERARY

Skardu tour packages itinerary, day 1 islamabad to chilas.

On the first day of the Skardu tour, we begin our journey by road from Islamabad. The entire journey is 9 hours long via the Hazara Motorway and the total distance between the two cities is around 212 km, but we’ll have to cover around 367.5 km to reach there. Along the way, if we go over the Babusar top, then we can stop there and enjoy the scenic views. However, passing over the Babusar Top is highly dependent on the weather, as it is covered in snow during winters and the roads are closed off. In case this road is closed, we’ll have to go through Behsam which is a longer route but gets us to where we want to go.

Day 2 Chilas to Skardu

The distance between Chilas and Skardu is 256.9 km and we will take the Karakoram Highway from Chilas. It will take approximately 6 hours and 18 minutes and that may vary depending on the weather and other such factors. However, if you plan to stay a night in Chilas then that, too, is possible but keep in mind that there isn’t much to do in Chilas other than the Indus River that flows through the city. For the most part, Chilas is a dry, rocky, mountainous, and rigid area with not a lot of sights. However, it does make for a wonderful one-night stay under the stars.

Day 3 Skardu Valley

Kharpocho fort, organic village.

A unique little village in Baltistan, known as Organic Village Skardu, north of Skardu City, which is also known as Nangsoq. It is located only 3 km away from Skardu town. This beautiful little village is renowned for its pure flora and climate. Because of its purity, the organic village has a unique identity throughout Baltistan. The lifestyle and agriculture here are still old-fashioned. Here, the watermill is still in use

Shangrila Lake and Upper Kachura Lake

The twin lakes are one of the best places to visit during the Skardu tour. Shangri la also known as Lower Kachura Lake, the lake is renowned for its majestic views and supply of fishes. In addition to this, on the banks of the river, Shangrila Resort is located which was built back in 1983 on the sight of a plane crash. The hotel was named after the book titled Lost Horizon by James Hilton. While Upper Kacura late is 3km ahead of Shangri la lake.

Day 4 Kharmang valley

The beautiful valley is located along the river of Indus river. Famous places are Manthoka waterfall and Khamosh waterfall and the Indus river.

Day 5 Khaplu Valley

On this day of the Skardu tour, we will drive to khaplu valley. Khaplu, which is a beautiful landscape with high peaks, flowing blue waters, and waterfalls, is the central location in the district. The people of this tiny settlement on the bank of the Shyok River are warm and loving, as they were centuries before, when travelers first arrived here, wandering through Yarkand and Saltoro. A narrow, paved road with poplar trees lined up on both sides provides the travelers with a soothing shade as they make their way through tiny specks of sunlight filtering through the leaves, casting shadows on the darkened road, leaving an aesthete spellbound as soon as one leaves Skardu.

Day 6 Shigar Valley

Watered by the Shigar River and located in the middle of Shigar town, the valley extends from Skardu to Askole and is approximately 170 km. Despite being isolated and remote, the valley houses multiple villages. On the far edge of the valley, is Askole, which is located significantly away from the mountains. In addition to this, the valley is a stream from the Indus River, which is located in close proximity to the town. The valley is famous among adventure seekers who come here for trekking, hiking, and mountaineering, despite the fact that the conditions are quite tough. Lastly, the valley is a pathway to the Karakoram mountains, which house the highest peak in the world which is K2. Places to visit while shigar tour is Shigar Fort, Shigar Polo Ground, Hashopi Garden, and the famous Cold Desert.

Day 7 Deosai

This is the ideal destination for adventure and nature lovers during the Skardu tour. The combination of the two words 'Deo' (giant) and 'Sai' is Deosai (shadow). It is thought that this place has been haunted by giants for centuries, so the name 'The Land of the Giants' came into being. The weather here is quite unpredictable, and sometimes it begins to snow in the summer. There seems to be sunlight and clouds playing hide and seek, with the sun shining for a minute, and overcast for the next. Due to the abundance of varied wildlife here, this area remained uncrossable for ages. Icy winds, thunderstorms, and the presence of wildlife make it impossible, even at this age, to dwell here, which is why Deosai is mostly uninhabited. For centuries, nomads from Kashmir have been passing through the Deosai plains with their herds, their path of choice.Deosai has a deafening silence, a silence that spans hundreds of years. The silence is so deep that, unless a marmot's whistle fills the valley, one can hear his own heartbeat. Deosai is situated on the border between the Karakoram and the western Himalayas, and it is not less than 4000 meters above sea level at any point. For 8 months, it will be covered with snow. It hosts a variety of beautiful flowers of all shades and colors for the rest of the year, but not a single tree is found on this plateau spread over 3000 sq. Deosai is included only during the summer season. Skardu tours excluding summer season, Deosai day is excluded. It is important to note that winter, autumn, or spring tour to Skardu does not include Deosai. Because as mentioned earlier it is covered with snow during most of the year except summer season.

Day 8 Basho Valley

Basho Valley Skardu is located in Gilgit Baltistan, Roundu Divison of Skardu District. One of the favorite places to visit during the Skardu tour, Basho Valley with its extreme beauty, majestic snow-capped mountains, and primitive charm. Basho meadow is one of the splendid places to visit and camp. One of the most unique things about Basho Valley is that from the valley, you can view the world’s top two mountain ranges. In addition to this, there are many things to do here such as fishing and the wide variety of fruits that grow here such as apricot, grapes, apples, to name a few

Day 9 Back to Chilas

Today we will conclude our Skardu tour and set out towards Chilas and get on our way back to Islamabad. We’ll most likely go through the same route that we took to get to Skardu, obviously, it all depends on the weather conditions. We’ll take the Karakoram Highway to get to Chilas. And from Chilas we go over the Babusar Top and come across Lulusar Lake, which is another lake that is known for its glimmering waters, which is surrounded by mountains on all sides.

Day 10 Back to Islamabad

On the last day of the Skardu tour we leave for Islamabad from Chilas, we’ll take Karakoram highway or Naran Kaghan road to Mansehra and continue the journey on Hazara Motorway and Peshawar motorway and we’ll be back in Islamabad in approximately 8 hours.

Tourist Attractions in Skardu Valley:

• Kharpocho Fort: Kharpocho Fort was constructed by Ali Sher Khan Anchan, who ruled over the land in the 16th century. In addition to this, if you walk along the Indus River, you will find white sands, which is a fantastic sight to behold. This the best monument to discover the history of the region during the Skardu tour.
• Sadpara Lake:  If you are more in the mood for fishing, then you can go about 5 miles North of Skardu and about a half an hour jeep ride, you’ll find yourself at Sadpara Lake. The lake is like something straight out of a fairytale because it is clear as crystal and is surrounded by mountains. You can take the boat ride to reach this lake while constantly in awe of its beauty.

• Shigar Fort: The old fort of the king of Shigar is one of the best places to visit while Skardu tour. The fort is built on a rock (Phong Khar is the Balti name of the fort here “fong”  stands for a big rock and “ Khar ” means palace or Fort).
• Shigar Polo Ground: Polo is the famous sport in the region. Shigar Polo ground is the largest polo ground in Gilgit Baltistan. You can have a chance to watch polo matches during the Skardu tour if you are there on a festive occasion.
• Hashopi Garden: Hahopi garden is a 30 minutes drive from Shigar town. It is a flower and apple orchard along the Shigar river.

Pricing & Payment

• The prices of tours and services provided by Travelling Ventures are subject to change without prior notice. The final price will be communicated to the customer at the time of booking.
• Payments can be made through the accepted methods specified by Travelling Ventures. All payments must be made in the specified currency.

Skardu Valley Tour Package Itinerary

Day 1 departure from islamabad.

We’ll pick you up according to the decided point in Islamabad for Skardu valley tour. Then, we’ll straight away leave for Naran and Kaghan Valleys in summer or the Besham route during winter for Skardu trip. Also, we will be taking short breaks from time to time at good spots to enjoy the view of beautiful valleys.

Day 2 Stay and Visit Naran & Kaghan

Enjoy your stay at lush green Naran & Kaghan Valley . You can roam around and do the shopping at the Naran Bazar. Moreover, if you want to hike and enjoy the best view of the valley, it is also possible. 

However, it is open only in summer, so if your tour is in summer (April-Oct) then we’ll use the Naran route if we’re traveling via car for Skardu tour. Otherwise, we’ll be using the Besham route with KKH (Karakoram Highway).  Rozefs Tourism makes it easy for you to stay at hotels in Naran during your tour.

Day 2 Visit Babusar Top

Babusar Top is a marvelous tourist attraction point, with 4,170m height above sea level. However, it is open only in summer, so if your tour is in summer (June-Oct) then we’ll use the Babusar route for Skardu Valley tour if we’re traveling via car. 

Arrival in Skardu

After breakfast, we’ll be continuing Skardu trip and leave via Skardu Road. It takes around 5 hours to reach Skardu from Hunza Valley via Jaglot Skardu Road . You will be visiting Satpara Lake, cold desert Skardu, and historical forts/places. We will be having a stay at hotels in Skardu valley . 

During summers, it is also possible for to add Deosai plains in Skardu valley tour. It goes through Astore Valley, then Deosai National Park. You can roam in Deosai, then continue to travel towards Skardu. 

Day 3 Roam in Skardu Valley

We will be roaming in Skardu today. This is a highly mountainous region and is very beautiful. The main town in Skardu is called Skardu city. This is a very popular tourist destination for people who love nature and the outdoors.

Best Places to Visit in Skardu

We will be visiting the following places in Skardu according to tour plan:

The Shangrila Resort:

Shangrila Resort is situated in the heart of Skardu city and provides stunning views of the town and the Karakoram mountain range. The resort has a restaurant, comfortable rooms, and many services.

Satpara Lake is a natural fresh water lake located in Skardu valley with 1.4 Km width and 3.5 K length. It is a popular spot for picnics and trekking.

• Upper & Lower Kachura Lake

Both Upper & Lower Kachura Lakes are in the Kachura village upper lake is in the upper region of Kachura and the lower lake is in the lower region. However, their famous lake of them is Lower Kachura Lake.

Kachura is located in Skardu Valley at a height of 8,202 feet above sea level. It is a safely preserved beautiful lake with amazing scenery. There are many hotels and resorts located around it which makes it the best place. Kachura Lake is which is located about 30 kilometers (19 mi) from Skardu City. It is popular for boating and fishing.

There are two Cold Deserts in Skardu, Kathpana and Sarfaranga. Due to high elevation, both receive snowfall during winter. 

• Deosai Plains

The Deosai Plains are located in the vicinity of Skardu. They are the second highest plateau in the world and provide stunning views of the Himalayas.

• Shigar Fort

Shigar Fort is a historic fort located in the Shigar Valley. It was built in the 16th century by the local ruler and served as his residence.

• Skardu Fort

Skardu Fort is a historic fort located in the center of Skardu city. It was built in the 16th century by the local ruler and served as his residence.

Day 4 Departure from Skardu

After exploring Skardu we will be going back to Hunza Nagar resort for a stay to prepare for the departure to Islamabad. In case you want to visit the Astore region of Gilgit Baltistan, then you can find more information about the Astore valley tour . As we can come back via Deosai plains, which also covers Astore valley. 

Stay at Naran

Next day, after breakfast, we will get back to Naran for an overnight stay. 

Day 5 Return to Islamabad

The next day, after breakfast in Naran we will continue driving to Islamabad.

We’ll pick you up from Skardu Airport with your hired car!, You will be visiting Satpara Lake, cold desert Skardu, and historical forts/places. We will be having a stay at hotels in Skardu valley .

Tour Itinerary of 7 Days Group Tour to Skardu 2024

Skardu Tour Package from Lahore departure at 10:30 pm & Islamabad at 3:30 am. Pick up the guests and travel to Naran, short break on the way to Balakot for breakfast. Stopovers at Kewai Waterfall, Kaghan, Batal. Visit Lulusar Lake, one of the largest bluewater lakes in the town. Passing through Babusar Pass which is located at an elevation of 13,691 feet connects KPK with Gilgit Baltistan. Arrival Chilas in the evening. Overnight stay and dinner in Chilas.

Note: Babusar pass route remains open from June to October and gets closed in other months due to heavy snowfall. During the closing of the road, we travel to Skardu & Hunza via Besham, KKH route.

Breakfast in the hotel and get ready for departure for Skardu. Stopover at Nanga Parbat viewpoint (9th highest mountain in the world). Break at the meeting point of 3 greatest mountain ranges and Confluence of Indus & river Gilgit. Break for rest and lunch at Astak Nalla. Breakfast in the hotel and get ready to Departure for Shigar Valley. Detailed visit to Shigar cold desert and blind lake (Distant View) Brief visit Shigar Valley and Shigar Fort, Photography and Sightseeing. Travel back to Skardu till evening. Overnight stay in a hotel in Skardu

After breakfast departure for Khaplu, (Khaplu was the second-largest kingdom in old Baltistan) short visit to Manthoka Waterfall on the way. A brief  visit to Khaplu fort & famous Chaqchan Mosque in Khaplu . Drive back toward Skardu city till evening. Dinner  and overnight stay in Skardu

A Complete Travel Guide To Skardu, Pakistan

If you’ve been planning to travel to the northern areas of Pakistan, you’ve likely stumbled across the name Skardu. This important city in Gilgit-Baltistan may be slightly less popular than the Hunza Valley to the north or Fairy Meadows to the west but is nonetheless one of Pakistan’s biggest tourist destinations thanks to the unique natural sites in its vicinity. If you’ve been dreaming of visiting a cold desert or an alpine plateau, Skardu is the perfect destination in Pakistan. And if you’re dying to sample some delicious Balti cuisine as well, it’s certainly time to pack your bags and plan a getaway to Skardu.

Where Is Skardu?

In the east of Pakistan’s northern Gilgit-Baltistan region at around 2,230 meters altitude lies Skardu, one of the region’s most important cities, It’s situated right along the Shigar River and the Indus River, which separates the Karakoram Range from the Himalaya Mountain Range, This location blesses the region with a unique landscape and ecosystem, which can be found in few other places in the world.

Weather In Skardu

Skardu’s climate is relatively mild compared to other places in northern Pakistan. The warmest months are June to September, when temperatures can get as high as 30°C, and the coldest months are December to February, when temperatures frequently drop in the minus degrees. Expect temperatures around 10°C during the months in between. Rainfall is highest from December through May.

Best Time To Visit Skardu

The best time to visit Skardu is summer from June to September. It’s the optimal time to enjoy lush green landscapes at comfortable temperatures without much rainfall and escape from the suffocating heat in other parts of Pakistan. October is another great time to visit Skardu in order to experience the region in golden autumn colors. Winter turns the region around Skardu into a beautiful white wonderland but it will be more difficult to access the city during this season.

How To Get To Skardu

Getting to Skardu is both a blessing and a curse. Luckily, you have more options than with most other places in northern Pakistan since Skardu actually has its own airport.

Here’s how to get to Skardu:

There are daily direct flights from Islamabad and Karachi to Skardu airport. The flights are operated by national airline PIA with small aircrafts. Despite their relatively short durations, flights to Skardu tend to be quite expensive, ranging around $80 – $200 per one-way flight. The (very scenic) approach to the mountainous region is extremely difficult for pilots but flying into Skardu is still significantly safer than reaching the city by road.

Getting to Skardu by road is a lot cheaper than flying but good luck ! I thought I traveled on the world’s most dangerous road near Naran but that was before I experienced the scariest drive of my life from Gilgit to Skardu. The road that connects Skardu with Gilgit (a.k.a the rest of the world) is in such abysmal condition that near-death experiences are almost guaranteed on the way. I’m sparing you from some horrendous details here but it’s no wonder that terrible accidents do happen . In addition, frequent landslides will almost certainly delay your journey by a couple of hours. Our bus got stuck in a small village for over five hours because of this and our six-hour journey turned into a 16-hour journey.

That being said, if you’re broke like me and still decide to visit Skardu by road, there are a couple of options. You can take a public bus from other cities in Pakistan, join a group tour, or hire an experienced private driver. Please don’t attempt to drive on these roads yourself.

Hotels In Skardu

There are many hotels in and around Skardu. If you’re looking for a high-end experience, you might want to consider staying at one of the famous hotels near Skardu. This includes the Serena Shigar Hotel inside Shigar Fort and the Shangrila Resort around the Lower Kachura Lake.

If you’re looking for something on the lower end and still desire a central location, I suggest staying near the actual city. I had a great experience staying at Graceland Resort near Skardu city.

How To Get Around Skardu

The best way to get around Skardu is with a private driver or a tour guide. I personally had a wonderful experience with Kamil Tours . You can also ask your hotel for help.

Best Places To Visit Near Skardu

The region around Skardu is full of amazing tourist destinations.

Here are some suggestions of places to visit near Skardu, arranged in an optimal order:

Skardu City

Starting off with the city itself. Despite its regional importance, Skardu is a relatively small city, meaning it can easily be explored in a couple of hours. Visit Skardu Fort and shop for local crafts and textiles at the city’s souvenir market. Don’t forget to haggle!

Deosai National Park

Ranging from 3,000 to 5,000 meters altitude, the Deosai Plains near Skardu are the second-highest alpine plateau in the world. Deosai National Park was first established to protect the Himalayan Brown Bear and other endangered species and is currently on UNESCO’s tentative World Heritage list. Visit Deosai National Park to enjoy incredible wide and empty landscapes as well as the waters of Kalapani , Barapani , and Sheosar Lake , The drive south from Skardu to Deosai National Park takes one to two hours up a mountain pass.

Manthoka Waterfall

Manthoka Waterfall is a beautiful waterfall about an hour southeast of Skardu. Surrounded by a serene green valley, Manthoka Waterfall emerges from the mountains so tall and majestically that it’s hard to believe the waterfall is actually manmade! Shower yourself in the waterfall’s pristine water, take photos of silky streams and rainbows, and enjoy a relaxing picnic in one of the most beautiful places near Skardu.

Shigar Valley

About one hour northeast of Skardu along the Shigar River lies the beautiful Shigar Valley. Follow the scenic road down to the beautiful village of Shigar, where you can not only witness local architectural gems like Shigar Fort or the ancient wooden Khilangrong Mosque but also traditional Balti village life.

Sarfarangah Desert

Sarfarangah Desert is one of the two famous cold deserts around Skardu. It’s located in the Shigar Valley along the Shigar River is therefore the perfect conclusion for a visit to Shigar. Leave behind your shoes to enjoy the smooth sand and enjoy jumping into the tall dunes with a bunch of friends. But beware, there might be thorns hidden under the sand in some parts!

Katpana Desert

Significantly closer to the city lies the Katpana Desert, Skardu’s other cold desert. Surrounded by tall mountains and with a beautiful lake in the center, the Katpana Desert is especially stunning in winter when its sand is overed by a smooth blanket of snow. In addition, its proximity to Skardu Airport makes the Katpana Desert easily accessible in all seasons.

Upper Kachura Lake

Kachura is a settlement about one hour northwest of Skardu and famous for its two lakes: the Upper Kachura Lake and the Lower Kachura Lake. The former one is accessible through a 15-minute trek through a small forest. Popular activities at the Lower Kachura Lake include swimming , fishing , and motorboating .

(NOTE: Swimming is not recommended for ladies, unless you have a modest swimsuit with you)

Shangri-La Resort

The Lower Kachura Lake is located within the majestic Shangrila Resort, which is hands-down one of the most beautiful places in Pakistan, if not the world. Spend a relaxing afternoon surrounded by the greenest garden in this literal Heaven on earth and make sure to enjoy some organic apple juice in front of the heart-shaped lake. And if you feel extra fancy, consider staying a night at the resort .

Bonus: Manthal Buddha Rock

Just a short drive south of Skardu lies Manthal, home to an ancient Buddhist monument known as the Manthal Buddha Rock. The rock is believed to be around 1200 years old and contains depictions of Buddha. Although I didn’t have the chance to visit Manthal myself, it’s a great addition to your Skardu itinerary if you have some time on your hands.

Food In Skardu

Balti cuisine is perhaps the most under-appreciated cuisine in all of Pakistan. Balti flavors and seasonings are very different from what you might be used to from other parts of Pakistan, featuring a lot more carby comfort foods than spices. Because it’s so hard to find Balti food in other parts of Pakistan, you should try to eat as much as possible when you’re in Skardu.

Some popular Balti dishes include:

• Papu: flat buckwheat pasta resembling Korean tteok in a creamy pesto-like sauce
• Mamtu: steamed wheat dumplings filled with beef, mutton, or yak meat
• Balti lentil soup: a thick and mild lentil and vegetable stew that closely resembles German lentil soup
• Namkeen chai: spiced milk tea with a small dash of salt creating a mindblowing taste

Safety In Skardu

Generally speaking, Skardu is a very safe travel destination. However, there are a few things to keep in mind to ensure a smooth trip.

Road Safety

As mentioned earlier, the road connecting Skardu with Gilgit is THE WORST. If you decide to travel by land, make sure to:

• Hire a very experienced driver
• Only use vehicles that are in good condition and avoid big buses
• Avoid traveling in the dark and during landslide season
• Budget A LOT of time for this drive

Usually, this is not too much of a concern in the city but avoid getting too far from your vehicle when you’re out in Deosai National Park in the unlikely event that you run into a Himalayan Brown Bear.

Health Concerns

As everywhere in Pakistan, food safety is your biggest health concern, which is why you should avoid tap water and sketchy food.

In addition, it’s a good idea to carry some altitude sickness drops with you in case the height is getting to you.

Female Safety

Female safety is a major concern in all parts of Pakistan. To stay safe as a woman in Skardu, it’s advised to not travel alone, avoid dark areas, keep a distance from strangers, and only go with trusted guides. Unfortunately in places like Skardu, every other man calls himself a ‘tourist guide’ but not all of them have certifications and reviews. And if you happen to watch a traditional dance performance, ALWAYS decline if a performer is asking you to join their dance. (This only applies to women. For men, it’s usually no problem.)

• K2: Skardu is the gateway to the mighty K2 peak, the second-tallest mountain in the world, and other eight-thousanders. While the summit is reserved for the world’s top mountaineers, you can do the K2 base camp trek individually or with a tour.
• Fairy Meadows: Fairy Meadows is the beautiful mountain paradise surrounding the Nanga Parbat peak. The trek to this remote piece of heaven begins near Chilas, meaning you’ll pass the region when exiting Gilgit-Baltistan by road.
• Hunza Valley: Hunza Valley, Pakistan’s most iconic tourist destination , is a place you mustn’t miss when traveling through Pakistan. The beautiful mountain valley is located north of Skardu on the Karakoram Highway.
• Islamabad : If you travel to Skardu by plane, this will likely be the beginning and ending point of your journey, so it definitely wouldn’t harm to spend a day or two exploring Pakistan’s capital city .

Round 1 action from the Zurich Classic of New Orleans gets underway Thursday from TPC Louisiana. The Zurich Classic of is the lone two-man team event on the PGA TOUR schedule and boasts plenty of the game’s best, with five of the top 15 players in the Official World Golf Ranking heading to Avondale, Louisiana. Davis Riley and Nick Hardy will defend their 2023 title, looking to become the first players to go back-to-back at the Zurich Classic. Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele, who have both the Foursomes and Four-ball scoring records at this event, will try to reprise their 2022 win here. Rory McIlroy will make his tournament debut alongside Ryder Cup teammate, good friend and Irishman Shane Lowry.

McIlroy’s proposed return to boardroom ‘incredibly positive’ for PGA Tour

The newly installed chief executive of the European Tour group, Guy Kinnings, has urged the PGA Tour to seize the opportunity provided by Rory McIlroy’s willingness to return to the boardroom to help heal divisions in the game.

The Guardian revealed on Monday that McIlroy will assume roles on the PGA Tour’s policy board and the PGA Tour Enterprises board, subject to a vote on Wednesday. McIlroy is motivated by a strong desire to end the current split in elite men’s golf, where the PGA Tour, DP World Tour and Saudi Arabian-backed LIV Tour are essentially operating independently of each other.

“I would welcome it wholeheartedly,” said Kinnings, who succeeded Keith Pelley this month, of a McIlroy return to a position of power. “It would be an incredibly positive move for the PGA Tour to take but it would be great for everyone.”

Golf’s key constituent parts now involve various tours and the Saudi Public Investment Fund, which backs LIV. McIlroy enjoys positive relations with Yasir al-Rumayyan, the head of the PIF.

“He takes an interest in so many aspects of the sport,” Kinnings added. “I have known him for a very long time and he is so thoughtful. You think you know what is going on in the game and then you listen to Rory and say: ‘Wow, he has put that so well.’

“You want to have people who are ready to apply that kind of knowledge, experience and thinking. He is very well connected with people at the PGA Tour , the DP World Tour – we rely on him hugely – and also the PIF. He is the right person with those connections [and] would be a huge asset.”

Kinnings is adamant that a “united, global” route is necessary for the sport. “I see this as an amazing opportunity,” he added. “We truly have that, with the right people and voices to help shape it. Tiger [Woods] is involved, I am delighted Rory is looking at this. These are the people who should be helping to shape the game they have given so much to.

“I think it needs to be addressed and it needs to be addressed quickly. You need the right people round the table, giving it thought because this is complicated.”

McIlroy would become the only European voice on these PGA Tour committees, which itself is notable. The PGA Tour and DP World Tour have a strategic alliance but there has been general concern about European golf being left behind, with focus on the US. “I was always delighted to have European representation,” said Kinnings. “I think it is far better to have a global view and Rory truly has that.

“It is such an important time and he is passionate about reaching this solution that we all agree is in the best interests of the sport globally. So I think he would be so valuable, so constructive. Personally and on behalf of this tour, I would be delighted if he was back playing a very significant role in the important discussions that are ongoing.”

K-Pop group ITZY showcases individuality on second world tour

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Members of the K-pop supergroup ITZY are looking to show a new side of themselves as the band takes its “Born to Be” tour to fans around the world.

The tour, which sees the girl band perform in 18 countries across Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Latin America, Europe, and North America this year, takes its name from the group’s third studio album, released in January.

“There are our solo songs (on the album). So I think that’s a very big difference (from the previous world tour) … we have our own song (on) stage,” band member Ryujin told Reuters, in an joint interview with fellow members Yeji, Chaeryeong and Yuna.

“(Working) on our own songs … really helped to express ourselves.”

ITZY debuted in 2019 and has built a loyal fan base – called MIDZY – with a blend of vibrant pop, hip-hop and EDM influenced songs and messages of self-love and empowerment.

“Every K-pop group has their speciality… Our group’s… is, first of all, performance and also, we have a main message that (is) to love ourselves,” Ryujin said.

One of the band members, Lia, has been taking a break for health reasons since September, the group’s label has been quoted saying in media reports.

“She’s trying hard to come back really, really soon and she’s doing great nowadays, we meet each other and hang out,” Ryujin said.

The “Born To Be” tour began in Seoul in February and wraps in Hong Kong in August.

Pga tour lays out how the player equity program will work.

In February, PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan introduced the rough outline of the Player Equity Program, a vesting plan for the circuit’s new for-profit arm that will carve up a hefty portion of the initial $1.5 billion investment from Strategic Sports Group. On Wednesday, players were given a more detailed version of the program, PGA Tour chief competitions officer Tyler Dennis confirmed on “Golf Central.”

The initial player equity grants will be approximately $930 million distributed to 193 players via four categories, starting with the game’s stars. Monahan informed players on Wednesday via a letter of their individual grants.

“There’s no other sports league in the world that has this significant number of their athletes as owners of their own sports organization,” Dennis said.

“We want to grow the PGA Tour in many different ways and having the alignment of players as player-owners with the organization is going to allow us to drive that quickly forward.”

The first group includes 36 players receiving $750 million in equity based on the last five years of play. “Career Points” will be awarded based on how many years a player has been a Tour member, how many times they earned a spot in the Tour Championship and how many times they have won, with extra points awarded for high-profile victories like the majors, The Players Championship and the FedExCup.

Group 2’s share of the initial equity will be much smaller ($75 million) and will be granted to 64 players. The group is considered “steady performers and up-and-comers” and will be based on FedExCup points earned over the last three years.

Equity to Group 3 will be $30 million going to 57 players based on career earnings and how many times a player finished inside the top 125 in FedExCup points.

The final group will include “past legends,” like Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson, with $75 million going to 36 players based on the “Career Points” formula. Those grants will only be awarded to “past legends” that are living.

Perhaps most important to players will be the program’s eight-year vesting period. The grants will be worth 50% of their value after four years, 75% after six and 100% after eight years, when a player will be able to sell their equity in PGA Tour Enterprises, the for-profit arm the Tour created for the program. At each vesting benchmark players will be responsible to pay taxes on the grants.

The program has been created to encourage loyalty to the Tour in the face of ongoing challenges from LIV Golf, and the requirements of maintaining membership (which includes a minimum of 15 starts each year) would mean players who join LIV Golf would not be eligible for the program or would give up any unvested equity if they were to join the rival circuit.

“We want the players to be fully aligned with their organization,” Dennis said. “It’s something no other sport has done before and we’re seeing an incredible amount of excitement about that.”

SSG valued the PGA Tour at $12.3 billion when the group, which is led by Fenway Sports, became a minority investor and the assumption is that valuation will continue to increase like most professional sports franchises in the United States.

The remainder of the initial $1.5 billion investment (roughly $600 million) will be awarded in recurring player grants of $100 million each year, beginning in 2025 through 2030. These grants will be awarded based on performance and Player Impact Program results with an eye toward young talent, like Ludvig Åberg or Nick Dunlap.

Rock trailblazer Heart reunites for a world tour and a new song

NEW YORK (AP) — Heart — the pioneering band that melds Nancy Wilson’s shredding guitar with her sister Ann’s powerhouse vocals — is hitting the road this spring and fall for a world tour that Nancy Wilson describes as “the full-on rocker size.”

“I’ve been strengthening. I’ve got my trainer,” she says. “You go one day at a time and you strengthen one workout session at a time. It’s a lot of work, but it’s the only job I know how to do.”

The Rock & Roll Hall of Famers who gave us classic tracks like “Magic Man,” “Crazy on You” and “Alone” will be playing all the hits, some tracks from of their solo albums — like Ann Wilson’s “Miss One and Only” and Nancy Wilson’s “Love Mistake” — and a new song called “Roll the Dice.”

“I like to say we have really good problems because the problem we have is to choose between a bunch of different, really cool songs that people love already,” says Nancy Wilson.

Like “Barracuda,” a sonic burst which first appeared on the band’s second album, “Little Queen” and is one of the band’s most memorable songs.

“You can’t mess with ‘Barracuda.’ It’s just the way it is. It is great. You get on the horse and you ride. It’s a galloping steed of a ride to go on. And for everybody, including the band.”

The tour kicks off Saturday at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina, and will hit cities including Atlanta, Boston, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, Cleveland, Detroit, as well as the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, Colorado. International dates include stops in London, Oslo, Berlin, Stockholm, Montreal and Glasgow.

The band’s Royal Flush Tour will have Cheap Trick as the opening act for many stops, but Def Leppard and Journey will join for three stadium dates in Cleveland, Toronto and Boston this summer.

Ann and Nancy Wilson will be filled out by Ryan Wariner (lead and rhythm guitar), Ryan Waters (guitars), Paul Moak (guitars, keyboards and backing vocals), Tony Lucido (bass and backing vocals) and Sean T. Lane (drums).

The tour is the first in several years for Heart, which was rocked by a body blow in 2016 when Ann Wilson’s husband was arrested for assaulting Nancy’s 16-year-old twin sons. Nancy Wilson says that’s all in the past.

“We can take any kind of turbulence, me and Ann, and we’ve always been OK together,” she says. “We’re still steering the ship and happy to do it together. So we’re tight.”

The new tour will take them to Canada, which was warm to the band when they were starting out as what Nancy Wilson calls “a couple of chicks from Seattle.” She recalls Vancouver embracing Heart, and touring in one van across Canada in the dead of winter on two lane highways.

The Wilson sisters broke rock’s glass ceiling in the ‘70s and Nancy Wilson says they only had male influences to look to, like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and the Moody Blues.

Now she says she looks out and loves seeing generations of female rockers. “You have boygenius and you have Billie Eilish and you have Olivia Rodrigo and so many amazing women — Maggie Rogers and Sheryl Crow, who calls us her big influence. And then Billie Eilish might have Sheryl Crow as her influence. So it’s a really nice legacy to pass along. I like to say we’re the OG — the original gangsters — of women and rock.”

Heart has made it into the Rock Hall, won Grammys, sold millions of albums and rocked hundreds of thousands of fans but Nancy Wilson has one place she’d still like to shine.

Next year will mark the 50th anniversary of their debut album, “Dreamboat Annie,” which was the same year that “Saturday Night Live” started. “So we’re actually kind of putting it out there — Heart never played on ‘Saturday Night Live.’ But what about the 50th birthday party with Heart?”
