Steve Hackett has announced his latest tour in support of Genesis’ 1972 album Foxtrot . Hackett’s ‘Foxtrot At Fifty _ Hackett Highlights’ will take place in September and October next year. Tickets go on sale Friday December 10 at 10am .

Hackett joined Genesis in 1971, making his band debut on the Nursery Cryme album which enjoyed a greater commercial success in Europe than the UK. After extensive touring, the band were encouraged, by audience reactions, to further experiment with ever longer compositions and develop their ability to incorporate strong narratives. This, in turn, allowed frontman Peter Gabriel more opportunity to indulge in the theatrics which helped to raise the band’s profile.

“I think Foxtrot was a terrific achievement for Genesis at that time,” says Hackett. “I think there is not one weak track on the album, they all have their strong points and I’m really looking forward to doing the whole album live.

The 13 best rock band trios ever, ‘three friends’: behind gentle giant’s first ever concept album.

Originally released on 6th October 1972, ‘Foxtrot’ was the second Genesis album to feature Steve Hackett after he joined the band a year earlier.

“I think Foxtrot was a terrific achievement for Genesis at that time,” says Steve Hackett. “I think there is not one weak track on the album, they all have their strong points and I’m really looking forward to doing the whole album live.”

Reflecting on the time the album was created, Hackett adds: “We were a young, struggling band at that time. By the time we were doing ‘Foxtrot’, the band was becoming more ambitious.

“‘Foxtrot’ is a must for fans of the early Genesis work. Fifty years ago? It doesn’t feel like those ideas are fifty years old because it was-genre defining, rather than following trends. It still sounds current, now.”

‘Foxtrot’ culminates with Genesis’ longest recorded song ‘Supper’s Ready’, which Hackett played on his recent Second’s Out tour across the length and breadth of the UK.

“’Supper’s Ready’ was a sojourn, an odyssey and something that goes down very, very well with audiences now.” Hackett comments. “As part of ‘Second’s Out’ I’ve been playing the whole of that again, it really has stood the test of time.

18 rock albums covers that look similar to other album covers, including Genesis and Phil Collins:

Scott weiland – ‘12 bar blues’ (1998).

The late-great Stone Temple Pilots singer's debut solo album features a blue-tinged image of Scott on the cover.

John Coltrane – ‘Blue Train’ (1958)

From the image to the font, Scott Weiland's '12 Bar Blues' is a homage to jazz legend John Coltrane's landmark 'Blue Train' album from 40 years earlier.

Anthrax – ‘Kings Among Scotland’ (2018)

The thrash metallers' 2018 live album 'Kings Among Scotland', which captures their 2017 show at Glasgow's Barrowland Ballroom, came with this visually striking animated sleeve.

Kiss - ‘Rock and Roll Over’ (1976)

The Anthrax sleeve is an overt parody of the aesthetically vibrant animated cover to Kiss's fifth studio album 'Rock and Roll Over'.

The Clash - ‘London Calling’ (1979)

The seminal cover to The Clash's 'London Calling' features a black-and-white image of bassist Paul Simonon smashing his Fender Precision Bass at the Palladium in New York City. It was created by designer Ray Lowry.

Elvis Presley - ‘Elvis Presley’ (1956)

With its pink and green lettering and black-and-white photo, 'London Calling' pays direct homage to Elvis Presley's self-titled debut album from 23 years earlier.

Iron Maiden - ‘Powerslave’ (1984)

The heavy metal legends' long-term artist Derek Riggs designed the Ancient Egyptian themed cover to their fifth album 'Powerslave.' Truly one of the best sleeves in metal history.

Earth, Wind & Fire - ‘All n’ All’ (1977)

Visually, Iron Maiden's 'Powerslave' is extremely similar to Earth, Wind & Fire's album 'All n' All' from seven years earlier. Maiden artist Derek Riggs has dismissed the idea he copied the funk band, saying: "Somebody somewhere said it was inspired by an Earth Wind & Fire cover, but that's just crap. Because of the song Bruce wrote it had to be Egyptian, so I went back to the tomb of Rameses 2 and copied the idea from that (just like Earth, Wind & Fire did) but mine is better. It's also got a hieroglyph Micky mouse in the bottom left corner. Ha! Earth Wind and Fire don't have a Mickey Mouse. Obviously inferior." Well said, Derek!

Mötley Crüe – ‘Too Fast for Love’ (1981)

The artwork to Mötley Crüe's debut album features a close-up of a rock star's crotch area.

The Rolling Stones - ‘Sticky Fingers’ (1971)

Mötley Crüe's 'Too Fast for Love' is, of course, a tribute to The Rolling Stones' infamous 'Sticky Fingers artwork from a decade earlier. Created by legendary artist Andy Warhol, the visible outline of the model's manhood caused quite a stir upon the album's release 49 years ago.

Deep Purple – ‘Deep Purple’ (1969)

The dark and macabre cover artwork to 1969's self-titled 'Deep Purple' is adorned with the right-hand painting from Hieronymus Bosch's 15th Century triptych, The Garden of Earthly Delights. It depicts the horrors of hell.

Pearls Before Swine - ‘One Nation Underground’ (1967)

Deep Purple weren't the first band to use The Garden of Earthly Delights on their album sleeve – Floridian psychedelic folk act Pearls Before Swine used a slightly different part of the painting for their 1967 debut album 'One Nation Underground'.

Manowar - ‘Fighting the World’ (1987)

Manowar enlisted fantasy artist Ken Kelly to create the 'Fighting the World' sleeve.

Kiss - ‘Destroyer’ (1976)

The 'Destroyer' cover art was also designed by Ken Kelly and features Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss standing atop some rubble with destroyed buildings in the background.

Led Zeppelin – ‘Physical Graffiti’ (1975)

Led Zeppelin's iconic 'Physical Graffiti' depicts two side-by-side tenement buildings located at 96 and 98 St. Mark's Place in New York's East Village. JFK assassin Lee Harvey Oswald, astronaut Neil Armstrong, Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra, King Kong, the Virgin Mary, Judy Garland and Led Zeppelin themselves are among the faces peering out of the windows.

Jose Feliciano - ‘Compartments’ (1973)

The concept for Led Zeppelin's 'Physical Grafitti' cover was allegedly inspired by the sleeve on Puerto Rican guitarist Jose Feliciano's 1973 album 'Compartments', which features different faces peering out of windows.

Genesis – ‘Land of Confusion’ (1986)

Just like the hilarious video, Genesis' 'Land of Confusion' single artwork features Spitting Image incarnations of Tony Banks, Phil Collins and Mike Rutherford.

The Beatles - ‘With The Beatles’ (1963)

Genesis' 'Land of Confusion' is a hilarious pastiche of the artwork on The Beatles' second studio album 'With The Beatles.'

The Who – ‘The Who Sings My Generation’ (1966)

The US edition of The Who's debut album 'My Generation' not only featured a different title and track list but also alternative artwork of Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend, John Entwistle and Keith Moon stood in front of the Big Ben clock tower.

The Rockin’ Berries – ‘In Town’ (1964)

Two years before The Who's 'The Who Sings My Generation', Birmingham beat group The Rockin' Berries released their debut album 'In Town', which also featured an image of the band standing in front of the Big Ben clock tower against a blue sky. A minor hit, the album dented the UK album chart at no.15.

Tom Waits ‘The Heart of Saturday Night’ (1974)

Gravelly voiced singer Tom Waits' second album features an illustration of a tired Waits being observed by a blonde haired woman as he exits a neon-lit cocktail lounge late at night.

Frank Sinatra ‘In the Wee Small Hours’ (1955)

Tom Waits' 'The Heart of Saturday Night' is based on 'In the Wee Small Hours' by Frank Sinatra, which depicts the singer on an eerie and deserted street awash in blue-tinged streetlights. Tom Waits listed 'In the Wee Small Hours' as his favourite album of all time in a 2005 interview with The Guardian.

The Mothers of Invention - ‘We're Only In It for the Money’ (1968)

Frank Zappa's art director Cal Schenkel and Jerry Schatzberg photographed a collage for the 'We're Only In It for the Money' album cover that directly parodied The Beatles' 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band', which was released a year earlier. Zappa's good mate Jimi Hendrix appears on the sleeve on the right hand side where the wax sculpture of Sonny Liston appears on The Beatles' sleeve. Much to Zappa's dismay, Capitol Records issued the album with an alternate photograph and the Beatles parody was demoted to the inside cover.

The Beatles – ‘Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band’ (1967)

Here's the iconic sleeve to The Beatles' 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' designed by pop artists Peter Blake and Jann Haworth.

Lordi - ‘Beast Loose In Paradise’ (2008)

The monstrous Finnish metallers, who won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2006 with their song 'Hard Rock Hallelujah', released a single called 'Beast Loose In Paraside' in 2008 for the soundtrack to their film 'Dark Floors'. The artwork features a very blue photograph of Lordi.

Kiss - ‘Creatures of the Night’ (1982)

Lordi's 'Beast Loose In Paradise' single cover pays tribute to the sleeve to Kiss' 10th studio album 'Creatures of the Night'.

12. Uriah Heep – ‘Live at Shepperton '74’ (1986)

Released 12 years after it was recorded at Shepperton Studios in Surrey, 'Live at Shepperton '74' features a bootleg LP style brown paper sleeve with a stamp of the Uriah Heep band name and album title.

The Who - ‘Live at Leeds’ (1970)

Uriah Heep's 'Live at Shepperton '74' is clearly highly reminiscent of The Who's seminal 1970 live album 'Live at Leeds'. It could be argued that 'Live at Leeds' is in fact a homage to The Rolling Stones' bootleg LP 'Live'r Than You'll Ever Be' from 1969.

David Bowie ‘The Next Day’ (2013)

The cover to David Bowie's 24th studio album 'The Next Day' is a tweaked version of Bowie's 1977 album "Heroes" and features a white square obscuring the music legend's face. It was designed by Jonathan Barnbrook, who also created the 'Heathen' and 'Black Star' sleeves, and is meant to signify wiping out the past.

David Bowie – “Heroes” (1977)

Here's the "Heroes" cover from 1977 featuring an iconic image of David Bowie taken by photographer Masayoshi Sukita. The pose was inspired by German artist Erich Heckel's 1917 painting Roquairol.

Slade – ‘Till Deaf Do Us Part’ (1981)

Slade's tenth studio album featured a lovely image of a nail being hammered into an ear canal. Delightful stuff.

Manfred Mann's Earth Band – ‘The Roaring Silence’ (1976)

Slade's 'Till Deaf Do Us Part' is highly reminiscent of Manfred Mann's Earth Band's 'The Roaring Silence' from 15 years earlier, which features a huge outer ear with a mouth inside it. It was created by artist Derek Goldsmith.

Thee Oh Sees / Paul Cary – ‘Thee Oh Sees / Paul Cary’ (2010)

San Francisco alternative rock band Thee Oh Sees released a self-titled split 7" single with musician Paul Cary in 2010.

Rush – ‘Rush’ (1974)

Thee Oh Sees' single is of course a carbon copy of Rush's eponymous debut album from 1974.

David Byrne – ‘Grown Backwards’ (2004)

The Talking Heads frontman's sixth solo album features a photograph of Byrne gazing into the yonder.

Phil Collins – ‘… But Seriously’ (1989)

Genesis drummer/vocalist Phil Collins also gazed pensively into the yonder on his fourth solo album.

STEVE HACKETT ANNOUNCES UK TOUR DATES FOR 2022

steve hackett tour uk 2022

Hot on the heels of his most successful solo tour ever, Steve Hackett announces his Steve Hackett Genesis Revisited – Foxtrot at Fifty + Hackett Highlights tour for 2022.

The tour will mark the 50th anniversary of the legendary Genesis album Foxtrot which, in 1972, was pivotal in establishing the band as a major force in British rock. Tickets are available from 10am on Friday 10th  December via myticket.co.uk.

Guitarist Steve Hackett joined Genesis in 1971, making his band debut on the Nursery Cryme album which enjoyed a greater commercial success in Europe than the UK.

“I think Foxtrot was a terrific achievement for Genesis at that time,” says Steve Hackett. “I think there is not one weak track on the album, they all have their strong points and I’m really looking forward to doing the whole album live.”

For a taste of what’s to come, check out ‘Supper’s Ready’, the epic 23 minute track that made up the majority of the Foxtrot B side! The below performance is from Steve’s Genesis Revisited Albert Hall show, filmed a few years ago:

Foxtrot was critically acclaimed and became the first Genesis album to make the UK album charts. The first track, the sci-fi influenced Watcher of the Skies became a fan favourite and perennial live set opener while Get ‘Em Out By Friday was a cutting slice of social comment about concrete tower blocks replacing aging slums, driven not by concern for communities but by the greed of developers.

Hackett was the lead writer of Can-Utility and the Coastliners, featuring some particularly strong musical ideas, and also contributed his classically-inspired solo piece Horizons. “The original version was a rough mix but there was something about it. A rough monitor mix can have things that something more considered won’t necessarily possess. I liked the sound of the rough mix, so we went with that.”

The album’s highlight was the 23-minute epic Supper’s Ready which remains a concert favourite and featured on Hackett’s recent Second’s Out tour. “’Supper’s Ready’ was a sojourn, an odyssey and something that goes down very, very well with audiences now.” Hackett adds. “As part of ‘Second’s Out’ I’ve been playing the whole of that again, it really has stood the test of time.

“We were a young, struggling band at that time. By the time we were doing ‘Foxtrot’, the band was becoming more ambitious. ‘Foxtrot’ is a must for fans of the early Genesis work. Fifty years ago? It doesn’t feel like those ideas are fifty years old because it was-genre defining, rather than following trends. It still sounds current, now.”

The Steve Hackett Genesis Revisited – Foxtrot at Fifty + Hackett Highlights tour also promises more Genesis favourites and highlights from Hackett’s extensive solo catalogue.

In September and October 2022, Steve and his band will once again play an extensive UK tour - this time with the motto: Foxtrot At Fifty: Genesis Revisited & Hackett Classics . We can expect the complete Foxtrot album, other Genesis classics and tracks from his solo work.

The dave grohl of prog graced us with his presence in the heart of the uk last night (18th) and having seen mr hackett multiple times in the past, what can i say at the age of 72, he just goes from strength to strength with a touring schedule that would put the fear of god up a band 50 years younger , only last year we witnessed the entire “seconds out and more” tour with a first part dedicated to his solo material and after the interval, the whole of that great live album. well, this year was much the same except we had an extended first part and with a huge back catalogue i was keen to hear what tracks he’d picked from his extremely impressive history as a solo performer ( but as he said during the show, it’s not really a solo performance as he always attracts an impressive band to accompany him and this year was no exception ), not going to spoil the surprise by revealing the set list for the first part of the show ( although i suspect it is probably available somewhere online lol ) but what i will say, it was a “safe” setlist. if you are particularly familiar with his first four and latest albums, you won’t be disappointed. fan favourites and a leaning toward his spectacular debut album were highlights and as usual we had the usual flourishes and wonderful meanderings we’ve come to expect from this extremely inventive and creative musician. so many highlights, it would be difficult to pinpoint one track that stood out, but “a tower struck down” did it for me (there you go, i’ve given it away….) a superb instrumental interlude that give every member of the band (nad sylvan excluded of course) that chance to shine. we had the obligatory drum solo courtesy of drum-meister craig blundell, albeit short and sweet, jonas reingold impressed us with his bass skills, but this tour we weren’t given a demonstration of his bass balancing ability (you need to see it to believe it lol)., there was some nice interplay between keyboard wizard roger king and master of all things blowable rob townsend and overall, the first part of the show was over far too quickly, where does the time go when you’re enjoying yourself. worth the asking price of the ticket for this alone, but with a 20 minute interval and the entire “foxtrot” album to follow in part 2, nobody here tonight could complain about value for money., no need to hide the setlist for the final part of the show as i suspect every self-respecting genesis fan is totally familiar with this standout album, which obviously features probably the greatest prog epic of all time “supper’s ready”, which was covered on the last tour as part of the seconds out set list. nice to hear “time table” which was never played live back in the day and of course, to kick it off we had the mighty mellotron intro for “watcher of the skies”, always guaranteed to put the hairs on the back of your neck standing to attention roger king totally nailed every keyboard part tonight and recreated not just note for note, but the original sound of the classic keyboard parts of this masterpiece of an album. if you’d closed your eyes, it would be extremely difficult to not know you were listening to the original band in all their glory back in the 70s and with nad sylvan adding his unique and impressive presence and vocal skills to the mix, the whole experience was mind blowing to say the least – honed to total perfection, this was (and is) a band at the peak of their performance., throughout the entire foxtrot experience, there were no vocal interludes between the tracks, the music spoke volumes and needed no introduction and as the dying strands of “supper’s ready” faded away, the entire room stood as one and erupted with applause, whooping and whistling their total appreciation and as the band stood together to take a bow, it was inevitable they would return for “ just one more track ” and they did not disappoint. not giving anything away, but let’s just say, it was a fitting finale to an evening that will live in the memories of everyone who attended tonight. still a number of uk dates to go before the tour leaves uk’s shores, so do yourself a favour and get your ass to the nearest show when it rumbles into town and if it means you have to travel a few miles – do it , you’ll be glowing all the way home, impressive doesn’t come close mr hackett (and friends) – we salute you., steve gould   , full credit to andy shaw for his top notch camera work..

Steve Hackett Announces

Genesis revisited foxtrot at fifty, + hackett highlights tour.

steve hackett tour uk 2022

“I think Foxtrot was a terrific achievement for Genesis at that time,” says Steve Hackett. “I think there is not one weak track on the album, they all have their strong points and I’m really looking forward to doing the whole album live.”

Steve Hackett and his touring line-up of Roger King (keyboards), Jonas Reingold (bass, backing vocals), Nad Sylvan (vocals), Rob Townsend (saxophone, flutes, additional keyboards) and Craig Blundell (drums) have recently completed the 31-date Genesis Revisited Seconds Out +More UK tour plus additional European dates. Hackett’s most successful ever solo tour, this tour sold out most of the dates and received stunning reviews:

“raising the audience fever to near delirium… celebrating what has been an imperious performance… We’re a lucky bunch of fans to have Steve Hackett on this form.” Prog Magazine

Steve Hackett – Genesis Revisited

Foxtrot at 50 + hackett highlights, fri, oct 13, 2023 | 8:00 pm.

Check out this recent CT POST INTERVIEW with Steve Hackett

Hot on the heels of his most successful solo tour ever, Steve Hackett  announced his  Steve Hackett Genesis Revisited – Foxtrot at Fifty + Hackett Highlights tour. The tour marks the 50th anniversary of the legendary Genesis album Foxtrot which, in 1972, was pivotal in establishing the band as a major force in British rock.

Guitarist Steve Hackett joined Genesis in 1971, making his band debut on the Nursery Cryme album which enjoyed a greater commercial success in Europe than the UK.

Now, for 2023, Steve brings Foxtrot at Fifty to North America for a string of eagerly awaited dates following the huge selling UK 2022 tour.

“I think Foxtrot was a terrific achievement for Genesis at that time,” says Steve Hackett . “I think there is not one weak track on the album, they all have their strong points and I’m really looking forward to doing the whole album live.”

Steve Hackett's emergency hospitalization: What it means for his tour and ticketholders

Steve Hackett was supposed to have revisited "Foxtrot," one of several classic albums he made as a member of Genesis, while also showcasing highlights of “The Circus and the Nightwhale,” a solo album he released in February, at a concert on Saturday, April 13, at the historic Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix.

But 10 minutes after the show was supposed to have started, Danny Zelisko, the local promoter, walked onstage to tell the fans the famed guitarist wouldn't be performing after all.

He'd just been taken to the hospital by ambulance due to a last-minute adverse reaction to medication.

Start the day smarter. Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning.

Here’s why Steve Hackett's Phoenix concert was canceled and what's next.

Why was Steve Hackett hospitalized in Phoenix?

Hackett shared a photo of himself in a hospital room  on Facebook  Sunday to accompany a post about what happened.

"I’m so sorry for the scare," he wrote. "I’d hoped to power through the Phoenix show but I had a bronchial infection and a last-minute adverse reaction to medication.

"Consequently, the medics took me to hospital. I am now recovering and glad to be feeling okay. I was very sad to miss the show and I will return to play in Phoenix as soon as possible. My thanks to you all for your understanding and support."

The post was signed, "With warmest wishes, Steve."

When will Steve Hackett reschedule Phoenix concert?

"Steve Hackett and the band will return to Phoenix in 2025. We are sorry the show in Phoenix can’t be made up any sooner," Zelisko said on Tuesday, April 16.

"We will send you a notice when we get a new date so that you can have first crack at the tickets for the new show. We are very, very sad and sorry for the trouble caused, which couldn’t be helped due to medical reasons."

Steve Hackett ticket refunds

If you bought tickets to Steve Hackett in Phoenix at celebritytheatre.com your credit card will be reimbursed automatically.

If you bought Steve Hackett tickets through a third-party outlet, you will need to reach out to them to arrange a refund.

What to expect when the Steve Hackett concert is rescheduled

In an exclusive interview with The Arizona Republic , Hackett talked about the tour.

“I’m keeping the museum doors open in the revisited sense of Genesis,” he says, “but also doing new stuff to keep it vital so I don't entirely pension myself off into a glorious past with all those lovely exhibits, beautiful though they are, but they are of a certain time-warp value.”
