Thailand EcoTours

Thailand EcoTours with Wildlife Experts

Many travelers are familiar with Thailand's magnificent islands, beaches, Buddhist temples, massage, and colorful cuisine, but Thailand's rainforests are also home to many bird and mammal species: elephants, tigers, 13 species of primates and 900 species of birds - perfect for Wild Planet's wildlife expertise!

Our 11-day and 15-day Thailand & Laos "Ultimate Wildlife" eco-tours have been named one of the " 50 Tours of a Lifetime " by National Geographic Traveler. These exclusive itineraries include Thailand's best wildlife destinations plus exotic cultural experiences at a cooking school, Buddhist temples, floating markets, and more! The climax of the trip is one of the most unique eco-tourism projects in the world - the exhilarating treehouses and ziplines of the Gibbon Experience.

A Wildlife Lover's Paradise The national parks of Kaeng Krachan, Kui Buri, Sam Roi Yot, Doi Inthanon and Khao Yai harbor some of the most diverse and fascinating wildlife on earth, including populations of wild elephants, gaurs, tigers, gibbons, langurs, macaques, barking deer, flying foxes and unique birds such as hornbills and Indian rollers. You'll also find wildlife experiences that are uniquely Thai, such as an elephant camp where you can bathe elephants in a river. And of course Thailand's famous islands, beaches and karst. Choose from a variety of itineraries including the single most unique eco-tourism experience we've ever encountered: a system of ziplines and tree-houses where you can see gibbons sing duets to each other. The Gibbon Experience is offered either as part of our award-winning 15-day Ultimate Wildlife eco-tour or as a 5-day tour by itself.

Hidden Thailand: Remote Rainforests and Islands Our Hidden Thailand program is perfect for travelers who love finding spellbinding places no one knows about. These remote destinations include a floating aqua-lodge on a 185 sq. km lake with 3,000 ft. tall limestone karst mountains. You'll explore the lake by long tail boat and sea kayak which allow sightings of rare animals -- including clouded leopard, slow loris, smooth-coated otters, 6 species of primates and more -- all without scaring them away. You'll also enjoy safaris by jeep and foot in the largest and least-visited national park in the country, for the best chance to see wild elephant, gibbons, leopard and more. Our Hidden Thailand program also includes a cultural segment in Chiang Mai and a remote island archipelago near the Malaysian boarder where you can still snorkel amongst colorful soft corals!

The tour as well as the guide were very good and very well organized. I would just suggest to review the Chian Rai part by replacing the Blue Temple with an historical one. Thank you

Trip was fast paced with some varied experiences. More accurate dress information prior to attending temples would have been useful but pre holiday research could have found that out anyway. Another day in chiang mai would have been 4 as elephant trip was practically a full day and the optional tours limited opportunity to explore. Great trip... Although I am templed out now!

Had a fantastic time with Geckos! Our tour guide Pui was amazing and organized a lot of fun activities for us. Really enjoyed meeting people from all over the world and had an amazing holiday!

Chiang Mai & Elephant Experience Tour

Chiang Mai & Elephant Experience

Once again the Intrepid guides were fantastic. Knowledgeable, helpful and friendly - experts in what they're there to do! However, I was disappointed with the package tour. It was a 3 day tour, but all up, guides assisted for a total of maybe a day and a half. Much of the time was spent self-exploring, which I don't mind, but to pay an amount for 3days seemed a bit extreme. The accommodation was lovely, perfect in fact, even though they were unaware of any of my tour details. I had to do a lot of extra research to ensure I was getting the most out of my time in Chiang Mai, with no suggestions of places to visit or how to get there from Intrepid. Love Intrepid, but could've done this one on my own.

Babysitting an Elephant at River Kwai Tour

Babysitting an Elephant at River Kwai

I highly recommend this tour for those looking for a great opportunity to explore Bangkok, learn about the history and culture of Thai People and spend an incredible day spending one on one time with the Elephants at Elephant world! Tui our tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable about the Thai culture and people. The Elephant world sanctuary was one of a kind. Its always been my dream to be with the elephants and play with them, feed them and bathe them. My dreams came true on this tour package. The accommodations were hotels and resorts that all provided breakfast which was awesome. My first impression was “This is too good to be true” but no this tour is legitimate and delivers everything as promised. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a bit of help touring Thailand. Its a great priced for hotels, accommodations and food. Thanks Tour Radar and ETC Travel!

Wildlife Tours in Thailand

Explore our tour destinations, below., our tours in khao yai national park.

By:   Tontan Travel Wildlife Tours

Khao Yai national park is without a doubt the best park in Thailand for wildlife watching. Our tours in Khao Yai have varied itineraries with primary focus on wildlife, and include scenic highlights along the way. These trips are suitable for young and old. If you are traveling to Thailand, a trip to Khao Yai is a must!

Our video will give you a better idea about our tour activities and the wildlife in Khao Yai national park.

Khao Yai national park is without a doubt the best park in Thailand for wildlife watching. The park is home to impressive stands of primary forest, beautiful waterfalls, good wildlife populations, and offers easy accessibility & good tourist facilities. The wildlife viewing is great, both along the roads and on the trails. Click here to find our tours in Khao Yai national park

Our tours in kui buri national park.

Kui Buri national park is THE best park in Thailand to see wild elephants. Our tours in Kui Buri have a very high success rate with elephant sightings, and with luck you might see some other wildlife like e.g., Gaur, Oriental Pied Hornbills, and more.

Our tours in kaeng krachan national park.

Kaeng Krachan national park is the largest national park in Thailand. Finding the wildlife can at times be a bit more of a challenge compared to e.g., Khao Yai national park. But for those who appreciate the smaller, feathered and scaly creatures just as much as the large animals, the tours in Kaeng Krachan will not disappoint. The park certainly has a wilder feel to it.

Click here to find our Kaeng Krachan national park tours

Kaeng Krachan national park tours

Our tours in huai kha khaeng wildlife sanctuary.

Huai Kha Khaeng wildlife sanctuary makes for a great addition to the other parks we offer. Especially, for those who wish to see more of Thailand's wildlife. On the tours in Huai Kha Khaeng we spend a lot of time in wildlife observation towers, but we will also search for wildlife by car and a bit on foot.

The park is famous for protecting the largest wild tiger population in Thailand, though sightings of the big cats are next to impossible.

However, there are some amazing other creatures like e.g., the endangered Banteng, and the stunning Green Peafowl that are fairly commonly seen here and make it worth to visit this wildlife sanctuary.

The forest in the accessible part of the park is very different from the other parks. More open and dry deciduous forest. Probably not the image people have about the Thai jungles.

But that's exactly why this place is perfect to be combined with the other parks for a longer wildlife holiday. That way you will see more of the diversity of both wildlife and landscapes of Thailand.

Our tours around thailand.

Thailand has a lot to offer when it comes to nature. And to get the most out of it, visiting various regions throughout the country will significantly increase the chance to see a wide variety of wildlife. This page lists our tours around the country on which we visit multiple destinations. Generally, the trips listed here have a specific focus on a certain group of animals. For example, tours focused specifically on reptiles & amphibians.

We have not listed all possible tours around the country that we are able to arrange. We can organize tailor-made trips around Thailand with focus on all kinds of specific target species. If you do not see what you are after, feel free to contact us to find out what we can arrange for you.

Kui Buri national park is the only park in Thailand where you are virtually guaranteed to see wild elephants. But there is more. The park is home to a large Gaur population, and with luck these might be seen on our wildlife safari. By joining our tours in Kui Buri, you are directly contributing to the conservation of the park and the elephants. Local farmers are hired to drive and assist us through the park, which offers them an income from elephant watching which compensates the almost daily losses of their crops eaten by these same wild giants. Therefore, your visit helps protect the wild elephants! Click here to find our tours in Kui Buri national park

Not only our experience in touring these forests keeps increasing. Also our excitement for Thailand's wildlife is only growing. And we can not wait to share that with you.

Wildlife watching in this region is certainly not as easy as on a safari in Africa, but therefore - in our opinion - the more exciting!

Thailand has a great biodiversity. And even though it is not so well known for it, Thailand is actually a great country for wildlife watchers. It might not be as easy as the savannahs in Africa, you actually have to put some effort in it, but in our opinion that makes Thailand more rewarding. And in the right national parks you have a good chance to see a fair bit of animals.

These wildlife watching tour packages have a more general focus on wildlife. We basically look at everything that moves, from mammals to insects, reptiles to birds, everything!

Our herping tours in thailand.

Thailand has a great diversity of herpetofauna. Over 230 species of snakes, almost 200 species of amphibians, and more. Some of the most charismatic snake species in the world like the King Cobra ( Ophiophagus hannah ) and the Reticulated Python ( Malayopython reticulatus ) occur in Thailand. Herping in Thailand can be challenging, but very rewarding.

Some packages are solely focused on the nighttime, others include both daytime and nighttime herping. We primarily go out on foot to search for reptiles and amphibians, but sometimes we might search by car too.

We have experience in every corner of the country and can organize tailor-made herping trips well beyond the tour options we mention on this page. Tours of one or more weeks also belong to the possibilities.

With well over a 1000 bird species, Thailand is an amazing destination for birders. With help of our expert birding guides you significantly increase your chances to see some of the feathered beauties.

It is also possible to focus these tours on bird photography, taking more time to get the perfect shot.

Our photo tours in thailand.

Thailand is a beautiful country with stunning nature and a great diversity of wildlife. Photographing especially the wildlife is challenging. But our tour guides are experts at finding the animals for you.

We need to add that our guides will help you finding the subjects, but are not photography experts that can give you photo technical advice. All our private tours are flexible enough to give you all the time to get that perfect shot!

Our tours in thailand suitable for kids.

Introducing your children to the wild, especially the biodiverse jungles like in Thailand, is extremely valuable. The excitement of walking in the dense jungle amongst huge fairytale-like, strangler fig trees, hearing all the jungle sounds, seeing gibbons swinging around like acrobats, massive colourful hornbills flying over your head sounding like a steam engine, and stepping their feet in the huge footprints of an elephant, or standing next to a big pile of elephant dung, is something that all kids should experience at least once in their life. They will have good memories about that for many years after.

All the tours listed on this page are suitable for families with children. These are generally private tours, so it will be just your family, which allows our guides to adapt the itinerary fully to the abilities of the kids. To be honest, anyway most tours are typically not physically challenging in a way that the average child would not be able to follow along. Not rarely we see the parents struggling more than their kids, haha. But of course if they are very young, cutting a hike a bit shorter might be a wise option, unless you have a backpack to carry your kids. Also, starting the day a bit later, or finishing a bit earlier is no problem if you think the days are too long.

We would specifically recommend Khao Yai national park for families with children, due to the wide variety of tour activities ranging from the usual jungle hikes and game drives, to options like night safari drives, bat caves, and waterfalls. Not all parks have such a wide range of options. Besides that, Khao Yai national park has from our extensive experience always been the most consistent in wildlife sightings.

We have had kids on our tours of all ages. Sometimes even babies of just a couple months old. It is all possible.

Wildlife watching is the largest national park in Thailand. Finding the wildlife can be a bit more of a challenge compared to e.g. Khao Yai national park. But for those who appreciate the smaller scaly and feathered creatures just as much as the large animals, the park will not disappoint. Kaeng Krachan national park certainly has a wilder feel to it. What is the largest animal in Thailand?

The Asian elephant is the largest animal in Thailand. Elephants enjoy a high status in Thai culture as a symbol of strength and grace. The Asian elephant's main habitats are in tropical rainforests, monsoon forests and forested ravines, mountain slopes, savannas, bamboo forests and wide areas in Southeast and South Asia. It is the largest surviving land animal in Asia, reaching over 1 meter in length.

Where can I see a real Thai elephant?

Elephant sanctuary park is a friendly alternative to play wiith the elephants in Chiang Mai, where you can really get in touch with these lovely elephants, feed them, play with them, bathe in the river together, walk in the jungle together, and really feel the harmony between man and nature and animals. You can find those elephant sanctuaries in Kanchanaburi, Chiang Mai and Phuket.

What are the two main parks in Bangkok Safari world?

There are two parts in this safari world, one is a wildlife park, and the other is a marine park. The two parts are ticketed separately.

Safari World

Safari World is not accessible on foot, so you can drive or take a ride (45 baht) (takes about half an hour) to see the animals. Thousands of animals, mostly birds, walk on the road and fly in the sky, and you can see cows, sheep, rhinoceroses, zebras, giraffes, lions, tigers and other animals up close.

Marine Park

The name suggests that it is all about underwater animals, but the Marine Park is a park that can actually be visited on foot. There are many shows inside, including orangutan Muay Thai, sea lion show, elephant show, western cowboy show, dolphin show and bird show, etc.

Khao Yai National Park , the first national park established in Thailand, is also the third largest national park in Thailand. The park is home to a wide variety of wildlife. Common mammals include Asian elephants and gibbons, and the park is home to two rare Siamese crocodiles. Khao Yai is also the national park with the largest population of hornbills in Thailand.

Which natural park is suitable for families and children?

Chiang Mai Night Safari is located at the bottom of Sukhumvit Mountain. This park covers nearly 100 acres of beautiful landscapes with gardens, waterfalls and lakes, in addition to a variety of rare animals.

The park is divided into a herbivore area, a carnivore area and a walking tour area. It is famous for its unique rare animals and the service that allows visitors to get close to wild animals . Whether you are traveling with children or you are naturally fond of animals, you will always find endless fun here.

The highlight here is Night Safari, a nighttime game viewing that starts every night from 18:30 to 22:00.

How to arrange a trip to Khao Sok National Park?

Located on the mainland between Phuket, Krabi and Koh Samui, Khao Sok National Park is the most popular destination in southern Thailand. Up-close encounters with elephants, jungle trekking and canoeing will give you the experience of a lifetime.

It is generally recommended to take a bus from Krabi or Phuket to Khao Sok and then join various one-day, two-day and three-day tours in Khao Sok town. Because of the long distance, it is generally recommended to take more than 2 days trip. This place is too pristine, so you have to join the local group led by a guide, you can not walk blindly in the jungle by yourself.

Khao Sok National Park has the oldest rainforest on earth, over 1.6 million years old, and scientists have found that the rainforest here is not only older than the Amazon rainforest, but also has a richer population of plants and animals.

One of the most interesting areas is the beautiful Cheow Larn Lake in the center of the national park, where there are floating raft houses and luxury tents offering a unforgettable staying experience in the jungle, not to be missed!

What are the special spices in Thailand?

  • KAENG KRACHAN National Park Tours: It is the largest park in Thailand. Mountain areas in this region make hiking bit tiring so your fitness need to be alright. • KUI BURI National park: In this park, only safari lovers or tourists are allowed to see wild elephants. Apart from this, it is home to a large number of Gaur Population that can be seen on a wildlife safari. The good thing about this place is that local farmers play the role of a local guide. They take people into the wilderness of this place and they keep on assisting throughout the safari through this they earn some money which helps them to compensate for the daily loss of their crops eaten by elephants.
  • KHAO SOK National park: It is in the Southern part of Thailand which contains dense virgin forest. This park can be explored by sitting on the back of elephants as here you will find huge tower-like limestone crust formation which gives a different experience of Natural Architecture, and also CHEOW LAN Lake which is manmade. This place is home to some rare species of the world like giant parasitic Rafflesia flower, gibbons and hornbills.

Best time to visit Thailand

The climate of Thailand varies throughout the year but the best time to visit Thailand is from November to April, when the season is cool and dry; whereas in the southern part of the climate varies between eastern and western coast. If you are visiting Northern and central part of Thailand, the best time to visit is from October to January during the summer season. One should avoid visiting Thailand during the rainy season, especially for safari as there might be dangerous insects or flies and additionally, the track gets difficult to walk along.

Thai National Parks

Khao yai national park, private tour | 1-day wildlife tour with night safari in khao yai.

Besides what a 1 day tour offers, combining one day tour with a night safari well after the dark will give you a chance to see both diurnal and nocturnal wildlife of Khao Yai National Park.

A 1-day tour will start in the morning and end well after the dark. Activities include hiking in the jungle, safari driving among the roads in search of elephants and other exciting animals, safari drives in the morning and later afternoon, visiting a viewpoint and one of Khao Yai's impressive waterfalls and finally ending the day with a night safari.

The itinerary below is just an example and can easily be turned upside down due to the length of different activities. We adapt to mother nature and customers' interests.

We will meet you at your hotel or other pick-up location we agreed on.

The tour always starts around 8 to 8:30 am with a slow drive through jungle and grasslands in search of wildlife. Once we arrive at the first hiking point we continue the trip in the rain forest between huge trees in search of any type of animal.

After lunch the first stop will be Haew Suwat Waterfall, known from Leonardio Di Caprio's "The Beach" movie, possibly continuing the tour to one of the best viewpoints of the national park. Last couple of hours before dinner will be an ideal time for searching for elephants.

After the dinner break our tour will end with a night safari in search of nocturnal wildlife, thereafter you will be returned to your hotel or other location we agreed on around 8 to 9 pm.

Where & when?

Khao Yai National Park is around 2.5 hours from Bangkok, easily accessible with public transportation with minivans being the fastest way. Our private guides will meet you in your hotel in Pak Chong -which is the nearest city- or anywhere between Pak Chong and Khao Yai National Park.

We can arrange a taxi from Bangkok on request. It takes 2.5 hours, it costs 2,200 Baht one way or 3,200 Baht for a round trip within the same day.

The park is open and accessible all year round but for night safaris we strongly recommend to avoid week-ends and public holidays when there are too many vehicles on the roads, reducing the chance to see animals significantly. The weather can be pretty cool during the cold season around November to February, so a sweater is a must!

Important note

Please confirm with us before booking a hotel in Khao Yai area as we don't offer pickup if your hotel is too far away. Or because some hotel owners don't like their guests to be picked up by tour operators.

Hello, this is Marco - let me add a few more compliments about this National Park tour as well:

• Our tour guide is not only knowledgable in the nature and animals, but also has a great understanding of different cultures - he often relates the plants and animals to the local stuff in Europe and rest of Asia, so the 6 of us (2 Germans, 2 from HK, 2 from Taiwan) would understand in our own context.

• He also drives very carefully and thoughtfully - we didn't get bumped around on the twisty roads and speed humps, and when we return from night safari, he manages to spot two animals on the road and stopped for us to see them clearly.

Both Donna and I agree - this tour is definitely the highlight of our trip in Thailand! Thanks for the great tour service :)

Early start, 6:00 am, arrived back in Bangkok at 22:30. 2.5 hours drive each way but the car was very comfortable (we slept very well each way). Our guide was great, making an effort to show us as many animals and birds as possible and taking the time to explain various parts of the jungle. The sounds of the gibbons are the definition of jungle sounds and we have heard and seen plenty of them. Beautiful hornbills too, cutting the air with their swooshing sound. We were lucky to see an elephant too! All in all a remarkable experience, perfectly organised and we fully recommend it!

Seeing these incredible animals in their natural habitats , made me realize the importance of preserving and appreciating wildlife in their natural environments.
