An absolutely amazing group and one I've followed for years. I was and American in Manchester courting my "wife to be" way back in 1989 when I stopped in a small record shop to ask the owner if they were playing anywhere; his response: "Sorry, mate, they've just broekn up". Fortunatly, I was able to hear Mark and his "Chameoleon Vox" in Los Angeles a few years ago. So I am so pleased and excited that they are still touring - and definitely going to see them at at least one of their U.S. tours -either Mesa, Arizona or San Diego, CA. Stand Fast, boys - we love you!

Awesome show. I'm gonna miss them when they supposedly break up after this tour. Burgess voice was on point. The guitars were shimmering and clear like the Ocean. I was so happy when they played PS I love you in the encore.

Opening bands sextile and soft kill were great openers too specially Sextile.

First of all, it wasn't The Chameleons, it was ChameleonsVOX. But it might as well been the official band, as they were awesome!

The place was packed. Luckily there was a balcony with a few stools which I made use of.

Absolutely amazing. The band were incredibly tight and polished. Song lyrics from the heart and they deserve way more recognition. Mark and band should be up there with all the Manchester greats. Please tour again.

Great band, brilliant night. Perfect antidote to the post-election blues. Most audience clamour for an encore that I've heard at any gig this year. Lots of happy people left at the end with a smile on their face!

the chameleons tour 2024

Pioneering post/punk band – CHAMELEONS – will be embarking on one of their biggest UK tours in decades this Winter.

Formed in Greater Manchester in 1981 by singer and bassist  Mark Burgess , Chameleons have remained one of the city’s most revered bands among musos ever since their inception. With notable fans including the likes of Noel Gallgher to Interpol, The Charlatans to Moby, their music has been passed down through the generations like an elixir of eternal inspiration. And here in 2024, a growing fandom of their immense canon sees Chameleons finding immortality as something of a cult phenomenon.

With their dedicated advocates finding awe in the “ sonic  cathedrals” in which they have constructed over the past four decades, Chameleons have released  four iconic studio albums  (‘Script of the Bridge’ (1983), ‘What Does Anything Mean? Basically’(1985), ‘Strange Times’(1986) and latterly ‘Why Call It Anything’ (2001)), plus many Peel sessions, live records, compilations and an EP (‘Tony Fletcher Walked on Water…. La La La La La-La La-La-La’ (1990)). Shimmering, shadowy, and shrouded in deepest mysteries, their distinctive and towering post-punk songs sound as vital today as the moment they were built.

Acknowledging their supporters with an annual homecoming every December for the last nine years, a typically breathtaking pre-Christmas celebration of their music entitled ‘ Home Is Where The Heart Is ’, demand for the Chameleons on the live stage has surged to all time high. And with word spreading across the UK, in 2024, the band are set to embark on their  biggest UK tour in decades .

Venturing beyond their native  Manchester  this December,   Chameleons will be sizing up venues in  Bristol, Glasgow, Newcastle , not to mention a momentous appearance at  London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire , as they look to extend their annual celebrations nationwide.

With something special up their sleeves as ever for their loyal hometown following, Chameleons will this year be hosting  ‘Home Is Where The Heart Is’ 2024  from  Manchester’s Albert Hall . While it will be the 10th consecutive edition of the HIWTHI series, the upcoming show will be the band’s first ever time playing this majestic venue – a guaranteed sell-out.

Stepping-up to this tour with an incendiary setlist in mind, expect a broad, career-spanning collection of classics and opalescent deep cuts at these unmissable Chameleons December shows.

Support across the tour will come from Athens-based, Gothic post-punk heirs  Vision Video . Very special guests for Mancester and London will also be announced in due course.

Post-Punk Legends The Chameleons to Embark on UK, Europe and USA Tour This Summer

The tour will take them to cities like London, Edinburgh, Paris and Berlin, before heading over to the US later in Fall.

The Chameleons, featuring original members Mark Burgess and Reg Smithies, have announced a series of UK and European shows this summer, along with a full USA tour this autumn alongside The Mission and Theatre of Hate. This news has been eagerly awaited by fans of the band, who have been craving the chance to see them live again in this setup.

Formed in Manchester, England in 1981, The Chameleons quickly became one of the most important and influential bands of the post-punk era. Their sound was characterized by atmospheric guitars, intricate rhythms, and introspective lyrics.Despite the fact that they were never as commercially successful as some of their peers, such as Joy Division or The Smiths, their music has continued to resonate with fans over the years. Many of their albums, such as “Script of the Bridge” and “Strange Times”, are considered classics of the post-punk genre, and their influence can be heard in the music of countless bands that have followed in their footsteps.

Looking back on The Chameleons’ legacy, it’s clear that their influence has only grown over the years. Their music has become a touchstone for fans of alternative and post-punk music, and their unique sound continues to inspire new generations of musicians. In many ways, The Chameleons were ahead of their time, and their music still sounds as fresh and innovative today as it did over thirty years ago.

The band’s upcoming tour will take them to cities throughout the UK and Europe, including London, Edinburgh, Paris, and Berlin, among others. Then, in the autumn, they will embark on a full USA tour alongside The Mission and Theatre of Hate, hitting cities from coast to coast.

This tour offers the perfect opportunity to discover their timeless sound and experience the energy and passion of their live shows. So, for those lucky enough to attend one of The Chameleons’ upcoming shows, prepare to be transported back in time to the golden age of post-punk, and to experience the magic of one of the most legendary bands of the era.

Seemingly "Nice" Man with Two Missing Wives Discovered To Have "Chilling History" By Investigators

After two of John Smith's wives were found to have gone missing, Janice Hartman and Betty “Fran” Gladden Smith, family members took on a decades-long quest for justice.

John Smith, Dateline: Chameleon

John Smith was described by some who knew him as a “really nice” guy — but he was hiding “dark secrets” from his past, including two missing wives, according to Dateline .

How to Watch

Watch Dateline on NBC and Peacock .

Smith’s chilling story and one family's relentless journey to bring him to justice are the focus of an all-new two-hour e pisode of the newsmagazine, titled “Chameleon," airing Friday, April 26 at 9/8c p.m.

“When a New Jersey woman goes missing, investigators uncover her husband’s chilling history, including dark secrets about another missing wife,” reads the episode's synopsis. “Would he be caught before he put another woman in danger?”

RELATED:  Killer "Suddenly" Confesses Four Decades After Shocking Canadian Murders of Two Women

Dateline correspondent Andrea Canning   told NBC Insider that she hopes the episode will show viewers “the power families can have when they are determined to get justice.”

“The victims' loved ones refused to give up on catching her killer,” she added. “They chased him for decades in an effort I’ve never seen on Dateline before.”

Janice Hartman, Betty "Fran" Gladden Smith, Dateline: Chameleon

Who was John Smith?

From the outside, Smith appeared to be the perfect gentleman.

“John was great with my mother and my grandmother,” Sherrie Davis, the sister of victim Betty “Fran” Gladden-Smith told Dateline , as seen in a  preview  of the upcoming episode.

Summer Hathaway, the daughter of Smith's third wife, Diane Smith, told Dateline : “He was really, really nice.”

But when Gladden-Smith, who mysteriously disappeared in 1991 from New Jersey, her daughter, Dedy Childers, began to suspect that her mother’s husband wasn’t telling her everything he knew.

"I said, 'John, where's my mom?' He said, 'I thought she was with you,'" Childers told Dateline . “I was absolutely panicked because I knew something was really wrong."

As one investigator explained, things started to “snowball” when they learned that Smith’s first wife, Janice Hartman, had also disappeared years earlier, in 1974, from Ohio.

Dedy Childers and Sherrie Davis, Dateline: Chameleon

Just as authorities were putting the pieces together, they learned that Smith had taken a new wife, Diane, putting the unsuspecting woman in danger.

“How long before the evil side struck again?” Canning wondered in the Dateline preview.

The shocking twists and turns in the case took Dateline from West Windsor Township, New Jersey to Wayne County, Ohio and Escondido, California.

“The most surprising moment for me was finding out there was a second missing wife," Canning told NBC Insider .

In addition to the interviews with Childers and Davis, t he episode will also include discussions with Det. Dave Mansue, and former Supervisory Special Agent Bob Hilland.

Covering the decades-long quest of the victims' family members brought its own share of challenges.

“This was a very layered story with multiple families and victims," Canning told NBC Insider . “Decades passed ... and a number of law enforcement agencies ... all eventually came together."

Rolling Stones announce 2024 tour openers: Tyler Childers, KALEO, more

The Rolling Stones have decided who will “Start Them Up” on tour this year.

However, unlike most tours, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers are mixing things up and bringing different opening acts to each city they’re hitting on the spring and summer ‘The Stones Tour ’24 Hackney Diamonds.’

Just a few of the big names joining them include Gary Clark Jr. (April 28 in Houston), Joe Bonamassa (May 15 in Seattle), Tyler Childers (June 3 in Orlando), KALEO (June 11 in Philadelphia) and Lainey Wilson (June 30 in Chicago).

As for their MetLife Stadium gigs, pop-soul outfit Lawrence is slated to kick things off at their Sunday, May 26 concert ; no opener has been announced for the Thursday, May 23 show .

And if you’ve been on the fence about catching Mick, Keith and Ronnie live because you fear exorbitant ticket prices, we’re happy to report that some shows have cheaper seats available than one might imagine.

At the time of publication, the lowest price we found on tickets was just $21 before fees on Vivid Seats.

Yes, you read that right. Just $21. We couldn’t believe it either.

Other nights have seats starting anywhere from $44 to $109 before fees (excluding festival dates).

Curious how much tickets cost and who will be opening for the Stones at the show nearest you this year?

While we can’t guarantee we’ll give you what you want, we promise you’ll get what you need.

Our team has all the details you’re looking for and more about the Rolling Stones’ 2024 ‘Hackney Diamonds Tour’ below.

All prices listed above are subject to fluctuation.

A complete calendar including all tour dates, venues, opening acts and links to the cheapest tickets available can be found below.

(Note: The New York Post confirmed all above prices at the publication time. All prices are in US dollars, subject to fluctuation and include additional fees at checkout .)

Vivid Seats is a verified secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They offer a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and your tickets will be delivered prior to the event.

The musically diverse New Orleans Jazz Festival — they don’t do just jazz, contrary to popular belief — returns to the Big Easy on April 25-28 and May 2-5 next year.

At the two-weekend fest, Mick and co. will be joined by fellow Rock Hall of Famers Neil Young , Earth Wind and Fire , Heart , The Beach Boys and Foo Fighters .

Many of the big names joining the Stones on the road have quite a few more shows lined up this year.

For a clearer picture, here are all the Rolling Stones opening acts who are on tour these next few months.

This 16-concert run will be the group’s first official North American trek since 2019’s ‘No Filter Tour,’ which concluded two years later due to COVID-related postponements.

Here’s what the band played at their last run, courtesy of  Set List FM .

01.) “Street Fighting Man”

02.) “Let’s Spend the Night Together”

03.) “19th Nervous Breakdown”

04.) “Tumbling Dice”

05.) “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”

06.) “Living in a Ghost Town”

07.) “Start Me Up”

Most recently, the band surprised New Yorkers when they performed a set at  Racket  in the Meatpacking District with Lady Gaga.

You can find their seven-song set list from the October 2023 one-off show  here .

On Oct. 20, the Stones released their 26th American studio album,  “Hackney Diamonds,”  featuring special guests Paul McCartney, Elton John, Lady Gaga and Stevie Wonder.

Comprised of 12 hard-rocking tracks that wouldn’t be out of place alongside their singalong stadium anthems of yore, “Diamonds” shows that Mick, Keith and Ronnie still have their sticky fingers on rock and roll’s pulse.

“We wouldn’t have put this album out if we didn’t really like it,” Jagger, 80, told Jimmy Fallon. “We must say that we are quite pleased with it. We’re not big-headed but we hope you like it.”

If you’re looking to sample the record, we suggest starting with the fierce lead track “Angry” and the wistful ballad “Dreamy Skies.”

Prefer to listen in full? You can find “Hackney Diamonds”  here .

No joke — the upcoming tour is sponsored by AARP.

Ozzy Osbourne, Cher and Mary J. Blige are among the acts in this year’s class of inductees at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

The Rock Hall entries, first announced during Sunday’s broadcast of “American Idol,” include Black Sabbath founder Osbourne, pop chameleon Cher and R&B titan Blige among its performer category. Folk-rock adventurers Dave Matthews Band, ‘80s hard rockers Foreigner, guitar hero and singer-songwriter Peter Frampton, funk and R&B mainstays Kool & the Gang and the influential rap group A Tribe Called Quest round out the Class of 2024.

Four of the eight inductees in the performer category are first-timers on the ballot — Cher, Foreigner, Kool & the Gang and Frampton.

The musical influence award will go to the pioneering American blues and R&B singer Big Mama Thornton (who first recorded “Hound Dog,” later recorded by Elvis Presley) and influential midcentury British blues guitarists Alexis Korner and John Mayall.

Jimmy Buffett tribute: Dave Grohl, the Eagles, Paul McCartney and everything that happened at the Bowl

Months after Jimmy Buffett’s death, stars including Paul McCartney, the Eagles, Jon Bon Jovi and Jackson Browne gathered to pay tribute at the Hollywood Bowl.

April 11, 2024

This year’s musical excellence awards will honor two recently deceased performers, beloved country-rock singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett and proto-punk guitarist and MC5 founder Wayne Kramer , along with rock and R&B legend Dionne Warwick and the late Motown songwriter Norman Whitfield. Buffet was recently feted at the Hollywood Bowl with a medley of performances featuring the Eagles, Paul McCartney and many others.

This year’s Ahmet Ertegun award, given for music industry achievements, will go to Suzanne de Passe, a producer and executive who for decades worked with Motown and its Motown productions arm, which produced film and TV projects, and the live performance series “Showtime at the Apollo.”

To be eligible for the Rock Hall, an artist or band must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the nomination year. The 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place Oct. 19 in Cleveland and stream on Disney+.

R. Eric Thomas

On the creative process, empathy engines, and nancy meyers kitchen parties..

R. Eric Thomas on the creative process, empathy engines, and Nancy Meyers kitchen parties.

Ten years ago, Brené started the Daring Interview series on her blog. It quickly became one of our favorite features. Now, we are relaunching the series and adding in a few new questions, including some from the late James Lipton, host of Inside the Actors Studio, and Smith Magazine ’s Six-Word Memoir.

R. Eric Thomas is a creative chameleon who seems to pop up in pop culture when you least expect it. And when he does, his voice might sound familiar. Many met him through “Eric Reads the News,” his much-shared, popular, Elle humor column that he wrote daily for four years. He’s also a best-selling author, playwright, screenwriter, and humorist, known for his captivating storytelling and sharp wit; through television shows Dickinson (Apple TV+) and Better Things (FX); and as a long-running host of The Moth .

He’s currently developing multiple film and television projects, including a half-hour comedy based on his memoir, here for it: or, how to save your soul in america . and his latest book, congratulations, the best is over , is about facing his intersecting identities and going home. whether he’s crafting essays that provoke thought, penning plays that ignite imaginations, or delivering stand-up comedy that leaves audiences in stitches, thomas is a master of versatility and vulnerability. there’s humanity in his humor. he’s outspoken about his depression and struggles with mental health, and his work often explores themes of identity, relationships, and personal growth — all delivered with that distinctive voice. .

A scene from R. Eric’s first book tour with a dust buster on the table. "It's because when I came out I threw confetti everywhere and then felt bad about it and vacuumed it up.”

Vulnerability is . . .

Acknowledging the unfinished parts, the rough edges, the bittersweet, the things that will never be resolved, the places where our hopes didn’t match our reality. Vulnerability is the truth, which is to say it’s beautiful and it’s sometimes hard and it’s worth it.

What role does vulnerability play in your work?

It’s got to be the cornerstone of everything I write, fiction or non-fiction, screenplay or stage play. Stories are empathy engines — when you share a story about what you wanted, what you thought would happen, what you tried so hard to get — it opens up a pathway to the listener and expands their worlds. But that doesn’t happen without vulnerability. Vulnerability is what gives me empathy with my characters, it’s what allows me to turn the hard parts of life into essays, even comedic essays. Vulnerability is what elevates a story from the level of anecdote into something that can touch another person.

The cover of R. Eric Thomas' most recent book, Congratulations, the Best Is Over!

What’s something that gets in the way of your creativity, and how do you move through it?

Anxiety is a big one. There are a million little things to do and they crowd my mind and make me anxious. My creative work is how I make a living so when I worry about money, which I do all the time, my creativity suffers. Perfectionism and even near-perfectionism (and even just-okay-ism) make me anxious and make me fearful of writing and block my creativity.

My best antidote for all of that is to remember that writing is so much more than putting fingers on keys — it’s conversations about ideas, and weird things that happened to you on an errand, and a poem that you read repeatedly or a song that plays in your head. I break down my creative process into bite-sized chunks sometimes, allowing myself the grace to listen to that song or to run that errand or to connect with someone else for a bit and it always gets my mind going.

Vulnerability is the truth, which is to say it’s beautiful and it’s sometimes hard and it’s worth it.

It’s often difficult to share ourselves and our work with the world, given the reflexive criticism and mean-spiritedness that we see in our culture — especially online. What strategies do you use to show up, let yourself be seen, share your work with the world, and deal with criticism?

I’ve tried exposure therapy — reading every negative thing people have to say about me — and that does *not* work for me. So I always go to empathy. As a consumer, there are things that I don’t like, creative projects that weren’t my cup of tea, things I read or saw that outraged me with how much I hated them. I never want to be that for someone else. But no one is going to be everyone’s cup of tea. There are people out there who don’t like Beyoncé, which is incomprehensible to me.

When I allow myself the grace to be another non-Beyoncé out here trying his best and extend empathy to every person coming in contact with my work, knowing that they want to find something that they connect to or that hits them right where they needed it, I right-size my work and my efforts and my critics. I tend to only invest in critique from people who know me and are able to engage with me thoughtfully, with an awareness of what I’m trying to do and what the best ways to do that might be. With other critiques — online and the like —  tend to use the “take what you need and leave the rest” philosophy.

R. Eric during a night of LGBTQ storytelling he organized at Baltimore Center Stage.

Describe a snapshot of a joyful moment in your life.

I was on vacation in Provincetown recently. My husband and a friend and I rented a house and the minute I walked into the house and saw the Nancy Meyers-esque kitchen, I knew I had to throw a dinner party there. This place had a stand mixer and more giant silver bowls than I knew what to do with. It demanded to be cooked in. Over the week we were away, we collected friends by happenstance and kept inviting them over to this party. On the night of the party, I stood in the Nancy Meyers kitchen, my hands tearing salad greens in a big silver bowl, as people who had very recently been strangers filed in through the screen door. It filled me up so completely.

Stories are empathy engines — when you share a story about what you wanted, what you thought would happen, what you tried so hard to get — it opens up a pathway to the listener and expands their worlds.

Do you have a mantra, manifesto, or favorite quote for living and loving with your whole heart?

I have to go back to Mary Oliver: “If you suddenly and unexpectedly feel joy, don’t hesitate. Give in to it.”

What is your favorite word?

Extraordinary.

What is your least-favorite word?

Every word seems to have its use, but I get an ick from the word squee. I also get an ick from the word ick. Maybe it’s just the “internet language” of it all. IDK lol.

What sound or noise do you love?

What sound or noise do you hate?

Brakes squealing — always costs money.

A selfie portrait of R. Eric Thomas on top of Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh.

What is your favorite curse word?

A song/band/type of music you’d risk wreck and injury to turn off when it comes on?

There’s not a lot that I’m not going to listen to at this point. I grew up Evangelical and wary of hard rock but then I spent a decade waiting tables as a young adult, much of it at the Hard Rock Cafe, and I realized that much of what I’d been afraid of was just the soundtrack to every car and truck commercial. I’d already heard Metallica and didn’t know it! That said, death metal is a no-go for me. I like life!

Favorite show on television?

Too many to list, but Ugly Betty came into my life at just the right moment.

Favorite movie?

My Best Friend’s Wedding or Sleepless in Seattle .

Another scene from R. Eric’s first book tour.

What are you grateful for today?

My health; I don’t take it for granted.

If you could have anything put on a T-shirt, what would it be?

I wrote in my first book that I was obsessed with the Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood character Lady Elaine Fairchilde and her catchphrase “Toots!” Since then, so many dear people have given me custom “Toots!” t-shirts and tank tops. I would take so many more.

Favorite meal?

A talent you wish you had?

Favorite song/band?

What’s on your nightstand?

Books and headphones.

What’s something about you that would surprise us?

I died once! (I’m fine now.)

Your six-word memoir . . .

The best is not over yet.
