Due to Overwhelming Demand Eagles Extend the “Hotel California” 2022 Tour Including Stop at T-Mobile Center

Aug 11 , 2022

Kansas City, Mo. (Aug. 11, 2022) – Due to overwhelming demand, the Eagles - Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit, with Vince Gill – extends the “Hotel California” 2022 Tour in the U.S. with November shows including a stop at T-Mobile Center on Nov. 23.

Each concert will feature ‘Hotel California,’ performed live in its entirety from start to finish, accompanied by an orchestra and choir.  After a short intermission the band will perform a full set of their greatest hits. All shows will begin at 8 PM.

The Eagles kicked off the “Hotel California” concerts in 2019 in Las Vegas to rave reviews and critical acclaim. To date, the Eagles have performed more than 60 sold-out shows, including five nights at the famed Madison Square Garden in New York City, four nights at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, four nights at American Airlines Arena in Dallas, Texas, three concerts at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, three nights at the Forum in Los Angeles, and multiple nights in Austin, TX, Denver, CO, Nashville, TN, San Francisco, CA, Phoenix, AZ, Seattle, WA, and St. Paul, MN.

“From the title track — a 6 1/2-minute flamenco-reggae ballad— to the elegiac closer ‘The Last Resort,’ it’s consummately performed…”  - Los Angeles Times

“The band performed the album from front to back, following with a blazing greatest hits set that had the audience at the sold-out arena constantly on its feet…With no exception, the songs have aged well, but how could they fail with the Eagles’ five-part harmony and five guitar-approach… (Henley’s) voice sounded as strong and pliant as it ever has, easily hitting the highest of notes, while retaining his trademark huskiness.”  - Billboard

“By now the orchestra has been joined by a choir. The Eagles’ sound, with its glowing harmonies, barely needs them, but they add to the sense of occasion – and the delight of the crowd. I’ve never seen so many songs receive a standing ovation.”  - Daily Mail

“…the Eagles spent more than 2 hours and 40 minutes on stage performing most of the best-known songs in their oeuvre, their voices sounding as robust as they did half their lifetimes ago. And the show was all the best adjectives you can think of — exhilarating, breathtaking, stunning, magical, triumphant.”  - Charlotte Observer

“It was a soulful, technically brilliant concert, with state-of-the-art sound engineering, wonderful performances and beautiful visuals presented on a giant screen behind the musicians.”

-Buffalo News

And it was…sublime. Eagles have long had a knack for precise, recording-perfect performances, and playing “Hotel California” was perhaps the finest exposition of that. The sound mix was pristine, the vocal harmonies were rich…”  - Oakland Press

“Everyone in the arena seemed to leap to their feet and start applauding at once. For a split-second I actually felt my eyes start to mist up. It was just so overwhelming, the power of (Henley’s) voice, the beauty of the song, the majestic-ness of the symphony, the thickness of the nostalgia hanging in the air.”  - Charlotte Observer

“What made the “Hotel California” portion of Thursday’s set so stunning was just how airtight the Eagles sounded… The “Hotel California” portion of the set was near perfection – a tight, 50-minute showcase of musicality that would have been worth the price of admission alone. But the night was far from over.”  - Cleveland Plain Dealer

Hotel California is the third best-selling U.S. album in history, certified 26-times Platinum by the RIAA. After its release in 1976, it topped the charts and won two GRAMMY Awards for "New Kid in Town" and "Hotel California."  Several of the songs from the album have never been performed since the original “Hotel California” tour.  The band’s Their Greatest Hits 1971-1977 is the best-selling U.S. album in history, with the RIAA certifying the collection at 38-times Platinum.

In today’s faddish, fractured, rock landscape, the Eagles retain an appeal that transcends both generation and genre, cementing the band’s role as enduring musical icons. As the best-selling American band of the ’70s, and one of the top-selling acts of all time, the Eagles have sold more than 150 million albums worldwide, scored six #1 albums and topped the singles charts five times. They have won six GRAMMY® Awards, were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, in their first year of eligibility, and received the Kennedy Center Honors in 2016.

Tickets for Eagles in Kansas City go on sale Friday, Aug. 19 at 10 a.m. at T-MobileCenter.com. For more information about Eagles and other upcoming events at T-Mobile Center visit here .

The Eagles Give Kansas City a Night of Nostalgia Journeying Through Decades of Hits

IN Kansas City Magazine

The year 2022 signifies two significant milestones for the Eagles : the 50th anniversary of their debut Eagles album and the 45th anniversary of their most successful album, the classic-rock mainstay Hotel California .

To commemorate that, the band announced a transcontinental tour—one that will continue well into 2023. On Thanksgiving Eve, the band checked into the T-Mobile Center , where, for three hours (including an intermission), they gave a full arena something to be thankful for: a nostalgic and euphoric voyage through nearly 30 songs.

The evening began ceremoniously: a blond woman in a dark gown emerged to cue up a copy of Hotel California on a turntable. Then came the unmistakable guitar intro to the album’s title track, and the Eagles appeared. They would play the entire album from start to finish, pausing once to ceremoniously flip the album from Side 1 to Side 2 after Wasted Time .

Only three members of the band remain from the recording of that album: Don Henley, Timothy B. Schmit, and Joe Walsh. After the death of Glenn Frey in 2016, Vince Gill became a touring member of the band—adding more elite vocal and guitar firepower.

They and four other touring members, including guitar ace Steuart Smith, had no trouble re-creating, note-for-note, the sounds and moods of a lyrically dark and introspective album. Henley’s voice hasn’t changed much, and Gill seamlessly filled Frey’s vocal vacancy on New Kid in Town and other tracks.

Hotel California is the band’s blockbuster album, reaching sales into the 20 millions. But it’s not their most consistent. Some of the deeper cuts are ballads that—when performed live—lack the verve and inspiration of favorites like the title track Life In the Fast Lane and Victim of Love.

But the Eagles wisely fortified some of those deep cuts with the help of a large ensemble of violinists, violists, cellists, and other string players, plus a 24-piece choir—all some of the best musicians and vocalists from the Kansas City metro whose contributions to the evening cannot be overstated. They transformed The Last Resort , the album’s finale, into a dynamic, transcendent anthem (think of Foreigner’s I Want to Know What Love Is .)

After the dust had settled from that gust of elation, Henley addressed the crowd. He apologized that the first set was short, but reminded everyone: Albums could only be about 40 minutes long back then. “And based on what I hear today,” he wisecracked, “they should be even shorter.” Then: “Forgive me; I’m a bitter old man.”

He then introduced and praised the string orchestra for its contributions: We could have re-created those sounds synthetically, he said, but “nothing replaces the sound of wood instruments.” Amen.

Everyone would leave the stage for a 20-minute intermission, then the Eagles returned for a whirlwind two-hour set of greatest hits, starting with a stunning rendition of Seven Bridges Road. The band’s multi-part vocal harmonies sparkled all night, but these were impeccable.

For the next song, Deacon Frey joined the band, son of Glenn, who was a full-time member for the previous tour but a guest this evening. The only thing stronger than the physical resemblance between father and son is the vocal resemblance. He stayed for two songs, both timeless: Take It Easy and Peaceful, Easy Feeling .

And from then on, the crowd, its attentiveness and its reactions were full-throttle. The orchestra returned to elevate Take It to the Limit into the stratosphere. Gill’s lead vocals were stirring, and the crowd sing-along was loud and joyous.

Witchy Woman was given a slower, grittier bluesy vibe, and Walsh’s guitar solo was feverish. Gill commanded lead vocals on two more Frey classics: Lyin’ Eyes and Tequila Sunrise. Then Walsh took over. He announced proudly that he’d turned 75 two days before, that he was from “across the river, Wichita.” After a few one-liners and goofy crowd-participation exercises, he led the house into the novel, auto-biographical travelogue Life’s Been Good to Me .

Henley, who jumped from drums/percussion to guitar throughout the show, then delivered one of his own hits, Boys of Summer , and the line “you can never look back” felt a bit ironic. That was the point of the entire evening.

The set ended with Walsh’s extra-jammy version of the James Gang’s Funk #49 , then a rousing, up-with-people, clap-along, sing-along rendition of Heartache Tonight.

But 14 greatest hits wouldn’t nearly be enough. There would be more looking back: a four-song encore that opened with Rocky Mountain Way . Then, with the orchestra behind him, Henley reprised a version of Desperado that everyone there will always remember—at least the several thousand who sang along and, on cue, roared back the song’s signature “let somebody love you.”

Deacon Frey returned to take lead on Already Gone , which featured some zesty dueling solos between Gill and Walsh. They closed with Best of My Love , during which the large video screens broadcast slow-dancing or embracing couples in the crowd. After that, the band with Frey, lined up, some with arms around another’s shoulder, and took a bow.

The Eagles have been somewhat infamous for a stage presence that always seemed arid, aloof, and detached: a little conversation with the audience and weak connection among band members. This night, things were different. It wasn’t a deep-warm Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers vibe, but it was adjacent to it. Perhaps there was a reason for that.

Before the final song, Henley addressed the crowd again, thanking everyone for all the support they’d received over the past 50 years. This was something like their 16th or 17th concert in Kansas City, going back to their first, at Municipal Auditorium in June 1972, for the Eagles tour. He, like Walsh and Schmit, is 75, so when he implied that this could be their last show here, you could feel and infer the sentiment and sincere gratitude in his voice.

If that turns out to be so—this was their farewell to Kansas City—they can all walk away satisfied, knowing they performed as it could be.

Eagles add six additional US 2022 Hotel California tour dates

Shows run this November

The Eagles featuring Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit, with Vince Gill have extended the Hotel California 2022 Tour in the US. The six new dates start November 15th in St. Louis with stops in Des Moines, New Orleans, Birmingham, and Kansas City before wrapping November 25th in Ft. Worth.

Tickets for the November concerts go on sale Friday, August 19th at 10 am local time via Ticketmaster .

The show will feature a Hotel California  set accompanied by an orchestra and choir, followed by an additional set of the band’s greatest hits.

They resume the trek next month with six shows in Canada before embarking on the fall US run.

The Eagles kicked off the Hotel California concerts in 2019 to rave reviews and critical acclaim. To date, the Eagles have performed more than 40 sold out shows in 26 major US arenas, including five nights at the famed Madison Square Garden in New York City, four nights at American Airlines Arena in Dallas, and three concerts at the Forum in Los Angeles.

Earlier this year, Deacon Frey, son of the late Glenn Frey, left the legendary group after nearly five years. Deacon joined the group after his father, who co-founded the band in Southern California in 1971, passed away in 2017.

Hotel California is the third best-selling US album in history, certified 26x Platinum by the RIAA. After its release in 1976, it topped the charts and won two GRAMMY Awards for “New Kid in Town” and “Hotel California.” Several of the songs from the album have never been performed since the original Hotel California Tour. The band’s Their Greatest Hits 1971-1977 is the best-selling US album in history, with the RIAA certifying the collection at 38-times Platinum.

In today’s faddish, fractured, rock landscape, the Eagles retain an appeal that transcends both generation and genre, cementing the band’s role as enduring musical icons. As the best-selling American band of the ’70s, and one of the top-selling acts of all time, the Eagles have sold more than 150 million albums worldwide, scored six No. 1 albums and topped the singles charts five times. They have won six GRAMMY Awards, were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, in their first year of eligibility, and received the Kennedy Center Honors in 2016.

The Eagles - and me - at 50

Their 50th anniversary, my 50th concert and a lifetime following america’s greatest band.

The Eagles.

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Sitting alone in a 15,000-seat arena, waiting for a band that has long bypassed the term “favorite” to take the stage, has gotten different over the years. It’s gotten more reflective.

After 50 Eagles concerts, a near-lifelong endeavor that began in 1994 and hopefully never ends, some of them start to run together. I can’t necessarily articulate – or remember – the difference between the two St. Paul shows or the four Dallas shows or the five concerts in Tulsa.

But I do remember the feeling, because that never changes. It’s the same in Oklahoma City as it is in Philadelphia. The same in Denver as it is in Indianapolis.

So as I sat last Sunday at Simmons Bank Arena in North Little Rock, Ark., at Eagles concert No. 50, that indescribable feeling returned. With the Eagles’ preshow playlist cycling through songs such as “Doctor My Eyes” and “I Am The Walrus,” I could have just as easily been sitting in Omaha in 2004 or in Louisville five years ago.

I keep going back because every time feels like the first time. Because there’s no replacement for hearing Don Henley sing live. Because it’s fun to tell people I’ve been to 26 or 37 or 41 or 50 Eagles concerts. Because I can’t get that feeling anywhere else.

The show goes on

The first thing that came out of my mouth on Jan. 1, 2017 was something I’d been thinking about for nearly a year.

“This is the first year,” I told my wife, “that begins with no possibility of an Eagles concert.”

I wasn’t so much as telling her as I was examining how those words sounded coming out of my mouth. Whether they felt real. Whether I could accept them.

Nearly one year earlier, on Jan. 18, 2016, six months after I saw him for the final time – ironically, in North Little Rock, concert No. 30 – Glenn Frey, the leader of the Eagles, died at 67 while battling multiple illnesses.

I got the news from my dad, who was scrolling Twitter moments before our daily radio show went on the air. Needless to say, that was not an enjoyable two hours. The following days weren’t a lot of fun, either.

In the aftermath of Frey’s death, Henley went on record multiple times saying the Eagles were finished. It was Glenn’s band, after all – he emerged, with Henley, as the leader in the years following their 1971 formation and served as charismatic, joke-telling front man during live performances. How could it continue without him?

Henley began softening his stance as time passed. He said the band could only continue if Frey’s son, Deacon, who’d impressed Henley with his performance of “Peaceful Easy Feeling” during his father’s memorial, would help fill his dad’s shoes.

And that’s what happened. Deacon Frey joined country superstar Vince Gill – along with mainstays Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit – in a version of a band some fans called Eagles 3.0 and others refused to acknowledge.

I not only acknowledged this version of the band, I embraced it. There is no replacement for Glenn Frey. But if Henley and the band’s manager, Irving Azoff, were set on continuing, they couldn’t have chosen two better contributors.

As for that assertion, back in 2017? It proved false. The Eagles reformed for The Classic West, a festival at Dodger Stadium on July 15, 2017, and I was there. As Deacon blared out the opening notes of “Take It Easy,” I turned to my dad and exclaimed, “He can sing!” And man, can that guy sing.

I’ve seen them 19 more times since.

Glenn Frey performs at the 12th Annual Starkey Hearing Foundation "So The World May Hear" Gala...

A moment for Glenn

Let’s talk about Glenn. He was introduced by Schmit in live shows as “the man with a thousand jokes,” but it seemed he had only four.

He dedicated “Lyin’ Eyes” to “my first wife, Plaintiff” and called “Take it to the Limit” “the credit card song” after his wife’s alleged propensity for maxing out her purchases. He said he was from Detroit, “where ‘mother’ is half a word.” And he quipped that his hometown was the city “that gave us Ted Nugent and won’t take him back.”

Sure, the humor was repetitive. But Glenn was the perfect front man for America’s greatest and most popular band. He set the tone for live performances, and his band introductions were an event unto themselves.

Last but not lost, a man who needs no introduction. He is familiar to law enforcement and hotel staff around the world. He never met a man he didn’t like, never met a room he couldn’t wreck. The Master Blaster on the Stratocaster, from the great state of New Jersey…

Glenn was dedicated to writing hit songs and being part of a legendary band, and he willed it to happen. Working mostly with Henley, he wrote classics such as “Desperado,” “Tequila Sunrise,” “One Of These Nights,” “Lyin’ Eyes, “The Best Of My Love,” “New Kid In Town,” “The Long Run,” “Heartache Tonight” and “Hotel California,” among others.

It can be difficult to quantify the impact a stranger has on your life. But anyone who loves music probably understands the emotional void Glenn left – and the massive hole he filled during his time here. It’s not unlike losing a loved one. You never truly get over it and you feel it at times you might not expect. I revisit Glenn’s memory often. I sing his songs louder now. Their meaning has changed.

And I find solace in the fact that Glenn lived exactly the life he wanted. Playing guitar, singing songs everyone knew, being admired. Telling jokes. An incredible life that just didn’t last long enough.

Making memories

I’ve traveled to see the Eagles alone 25 times, exactly half of my total. I’ve driven to places such as Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Columbia, Mo., Sioux Falls and Omaha without a companion.

I’ve called Eagles concerts a religious experience; you might share it with many others, but it’s a personal journey and no person’s relationship with the band or the music is exactly the same.

As I’ve gotten older, though, I increasingly value the memories made with others before, during and after Eagles concerts. Singing “Hole in The World” with my mom and sister, Sarah, on the train back to our Washington, D.C. hotel after Eagles concert No. 5.

Walking way too fast uphill in the cold to see the band in Springfield, Mo. with my dad – that was show No. 12. Enjoying the first show of the History of the Eagles tour, in Louisville back in 2013 – No. 21. Driving to Philadelphia with Sarah, eight hours from Columbus, Ohio., without cruise control in the summer of 2003 for show No. 4.

The two shows with my daughter, who recently said her love for the Eagles was a 9 out of 10. Talk about a proud parent moment.

When the music starts, the company is basically inconsequential. I’m lost in the moment, singing along with every word – except on “Desperado,” that one belongs exclusively to Don. Playing drums on my legs, replicating guitar sounds with my mouth.

But I have to admit, having someone to talk to afterward enhances the experience. It beats walking to the car alone, driving back to the hotel – alone -- and waiting hours to come down from the natural high. Alone.

When you’re in the same space as Don Henley and Joe Walsh, you can never be alone. The moments before and after, though, are better when you’re surrounded by those you love almost as much as the band (just kidding. Mostly).

Eagles FAQs

When you tell people you’re approaching 50 Eagles concerts and have a lifelong obsession with the band, they have some questions. Usually, they’re the same questions:

Have you ever met any of them?

Oh, man. Yes! And how proud I am to answer this in the affirmative. I paid a lot of money to quiver in the presence of Don Henley during a concert/Q&A/photo op near Dallas. And a little less money to be too afraid to say anything to Joe Walsh in Kansas City. I often wonder whether we would be friends to this day if only I’d had a little more courage.

What was your favorite show?

I have a five-way tie here:

  • The Millennium Concert in Los Angeles on Dec. 31, 1999 at Staples Center.
  • The first show of the History of the Eagles tour, in Louisville on July 6, 2013.
  • The first Eagles 3.0 show, with Deacon Frey and Vince Gill, at Dodger Stadium on July 15, 2017.
  • My first Eagles concert, in Denver with my dad at Fiddler’s Green in Denver on June 15, 1994. This was not long after the Eagles reunited after 14 years for the “Hell Freezes Over” tour.
  • My second Eagles concert and the first one with my mom, at Polaris Amphitheater in Columbus, Ohio on Aug. 13, 1994.

What’s your favorite Eagles song?

It changes often between “One Of These Nights,” “The Long Run,” “Train Leaves Here This Morning” “Lyin’ Eyes,” “Wasted Time” and “Waiting in the Weeds,” a little-known but incredible ballad from the band’s Long Road Out Of Eden album in 2007.

In live shows, my favorite song is Walsh’s “Life’s Been Good.” There’s nothing quite like screaming “HE’S COOL!” along with 15,000 other people.

Have you ever sat in the front row?

One time. It was in Sioux Falls on June 4, 2015. Eagles show No. 29. I needed to do it, and I swear I made eye contact with Don Henley at least 16 times. I did everything I could to make sure he knew I was his biggest fan.

Who’s that guy playing guitar at the end of the stage?

That’s Steuart Smith. He replaced Don Felder back in 2001 and has been their touring guitarist for the last two decades. He deserves to be an official Eagle, but that doesn’t appear to be in the cards.

While we’re at it, Scott Crago is the second-string drummer, behind Henley, and Will Hollis and Michael Thompson are on keyboards.

Don’t you get tired of hearing the same songs over and over?

The Hotel California tour

An Eagles-filled life

My 50th Eagles concert was the Eagles’ final show of 2022, their 50th anniversary. The band got together in 1971 but released its first album the following year and hit the airwaves for the first time with “Take It Easy” on May 1, 1972.

This was the 15th time I’ve seen the Hotel California tour, which began in 2019 and resumed in late 2020 after the pandemic. The Eagles play the legendary 1976 album in its entirety, with Gill picking up two lead vocals, followed by a greatest hits set full of singalongs.

The Eagles are a huge part of my life, but at the same time, they’re not real life. In a lot of ways, their concerts are like traveling to a different dimension.

Like a whirlwind, a dream. Multiple times throughout every show, I remind myself that I’m looking at Don Henley, and it feels … strange. Unreal. This man’s voice has filled my many houses and many cars for the last four decades, and here he is singing in front of me. How does that happen? How is that real? How does it happen 50 times?

If you know, you know.

I’ve left many Eagles concerts feeling as though I’ve just seen my last one. The principal band members – Henley, Walsh and Schmit, turned 75 this year. For the last 10 years, at least, I’ve begun to come to terms with the fact that it can’t go on forever.

Except it can. Whether I see one more concert or 50 more, I have memories to last another 100 years. Of Henley, Frey, Walsh, Schmit, Felder, Gill, the other, younger Frey and Bernie Leadon, an original Eagle who rejoined the band for the History of the Eagles tour nearly a decade ago.

The Eagles are more than a band. More than a couple dozen instantly recognizable songs. More than a group of talented musicians who turn out to be far greater than the sum of their parts. More than a night in North Little Rock and more than a milestone.

They’re the best parts of me. Loyalty, love, commitment, exuberance, participation in a community bigger than myself. They’re a feeling I can’t find anywhere else. They’re a life well-lived.

Deacon Frey departs Eagles after filling in for late father

In this May 4, 2018 photo, Deacon Frey, left, and Cindy Frey pose for a portrait at Dog House...

The son of founding Eagles member Glenn Frey is calling it quits with the band.

Deacon Frey, who filled in for the band after the death of his father in 2016, is leaving the Eagles, the band announced in a statement Wednesday.

The younger Frey took over for his father when the Eagles returned to the stage in 2017.

"Deacon Frey has devoted the past 4 ½ years to carrying on his father's legacy and, after some weeks of reflection, he now feels that it is time for him to forge his own path," the band's statement said. "We understand, completely, and we support him in whatever he wishes to pursue in the years ahead."

The statement praised Deacon Frey's "admirable efforts" fulfilling his father's legacy and said he "is always welcome to join us onstage at any future concerts, if he so desires."

Bernie Leadon, from left, Don Henley, Timothy B. Schmit, Jackson Browne, Joe Walsh and Steuart...

"We hope our fans will join us in wishing Deacon the very best as he moves into the next phase of his career," the statement concluded.

Deacon Frey, 26, was noticeably absent when the Eagles began their "Hotel California 2022 Tour" in February. The band said in a Facebook post at the time that he wouldn't be performing because of an illness and would rejoin the band "based on his recovery and doctor's recommendations."

Glenn Frey died from complications of rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis and pneumonia in January 2016. He was 67.

The Eagles, who performed without Deacon Frey in South Florida in February, will resume touring Tuesday in Columbus, Ohio.

2024 NFL draft: How host cities have fared afterward

T he NFL draft , in the ninth year of its tour across the nation since leaving its longtime home of New York, is making its 2024 stop in Detroit.

The draft was held in cities such as Philadelphia and Chicago dating back to 1936, but in 1965 the Big Apple became its home for 50 years. As the years went by and the draft began to expand, it evolved from one day to two in 1988 before eventually becoming a three-day event in 2010. The expanded event grew out of the New York City site in 2015 in an effort to engage with more fans nationwide.

In 2022, the NFL announced that the draft would land in Detroit. The Detroit Lions  went on to a historic 2023 season, going to the NFC Championship Game for the first time since 1991, where their bid for the Super Bowl came up short in a 34-31 loss to the San Francisco 49ers .

Detroit set a Day 1 record for the NFL draft on Thursday with over 275,000 fans in attendance.

Here is a look at other NFL draft hosts and how they have fared the following season.

Kansas City, 2023

Wide receiver  Kadarius Toney couldn't grasp multiple dimes from Patrick Mahomes , and the Kansas City Chiefs began their season on a down note by dropping their opener to the Lions. Travis Kelce stepped up in the receiving room to lead the team to a six-game winning streak, but offensive struggles triggered Kansas City midway through the regular season.

The Chiefs still made an appearance in the postseason in freezing cold temperatures, and their journey to the Super Bowl looked like a breeze.

The Super Bowl appeared to be going the 49ers' way, but San Francisco's 10-3 halftime lead morphed into an overtime thriller. In the extra period, Mahomes connected with Kelce for a walk-off touchdown and back-to-back Kansas City Super Bowl victories.

Philadelphia, 2017

The Philadelphia Eagles made franchise history in the 2017 season, winning their first Super Bowl.

After the Eagles finished the 2016 season 7-9, Doug Pederson changed the offensive game plan to let their string of quarterbacks maximize their potential. Philadelphia got off to a 10-1 start before losing to the Seattle Seahawks as  Russell Wilson had three passing touchdowns.

The Eagles completed the season with a franchise-record 13 wins. Quarterback Carson Wentz  threw for 3,296 yards before suffering a season-ending torn ACL, leading Nick Foles to anchor Philadelphia in its Super Bowl victory over Tom Brady and the New England Patriots .

Nashville, 2019

The Tennessee Titans hadn't been to an AFC Championship Game since 2002, but 2019 was a turnaround after missing the 2018 playoffs. The Titans drafted wide receiver A.J. Brown in 2019 as the No. 51 overall pick. He made an immediate impact by leading Tennessee with 1,051 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.

And  Derrick Henry was unstoppable during the Titans' playoff run, leading them to the AFC Championship Game, but they failed to get past Kansas City for a Super Bowl berth.

Arlington (Dallas), 2018

The Dallas Cowboys hadn't had a playoff victory since 2015. Though their season had a rocky start defensively, the offense sparked a five-game winning streak. Dak Prescott' s 80% rate completion in Week 16 helped the Cowboys beat the Buccaneers 27-20, clinching the NFC East Division title before losing to the Los Angeles Rams  in the postseason.

Las Vegas, 2022

The Raiders began their season 2-7. Though Las Vegas running back  Josh Jacobs led the league in rushing yards that season with 1,653, it didn't add enough momentum to help the Raiders do a 180 from the rough start. Las Vegas finished with a 6-11 record, missing the playoffs.

The following season, the Raiders got off to a 3-5 start under Josh McDaniel, which led to a coaching change. Las Vegas appointed Antonio Pierce as interim head coach, immediately boosting locker room morale.

Cleveland, 2021

The Cleveland Browns had earned their first playoff berth since 2002 in the 2020 season. Though Cleveland lost to the Chiefs in the divisional round, the Browns were expected to carry their momentum over into the 2021 season and be Super Bowl contenders.

That didn't quite happen.

In Week 2 against the Houston Texans , then-quarterback Baker Mayfield suffered a shoulder injury that would ultimately lead the Browns to finish the season 8-9.

Chicago, 2015

After kicking off their season at Soldier Field, the Bears suffered a three-game losing streak against the Green Bay Packers , Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks. Their 26-0 loss to Seattle appeared to help the Bears build character, leading to wins in their next two games and close competition the rest of the season.

Quarterback Jay Cutler had one of his best seasons with Chicago. After throwing 18 interceptions in 2014, he cut back in 2015 with 11 picks even though the Bears' wide receivers room was decimated by injuries.

The Bears finished the season 6-10.

Chicago, 2016

After taking a couple of steps forward in the 2015 season, the Bears took multiple steps backward in 2016 -- posting a record of 3-13.

In their second season under John Fox, the Bears faced a number of health challenges with 19 players on the injured reserve list. Cutler was in and out during the season, causing Matt Barkley and Brian Hoyer to step up.

The following year, the Bears earned the No. 1 pick in the 2017 NFL draft.

The Philadelphia Eagles have used the final pick from their 2022 NFL Draft trade with the New Orleans Saints.

NFL: JAN 01 Saints at Eagles

A massive NFL Draft trade from two years ago is finally complete.

The Philadelphia Eagles’ road to the 2022 Super Bowl arguably began in 2021, when they gained an extra first-round pick courtesy of a trade with the Miami Dolphins. Philadelphia moved down from No. 6 (where Miami chose Jaylen Waddle) to No. 12, then moved up to No. 10 in a separate deal with the Dallas Cowboys to take DeVonta Smith.

With a pair of 2022 first-round picks in his pocket, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman pulled off a major swap that eventually led to the Eagles landing one of the game’s best receivers in a separate trade.

Howie Roseman on the trade with the Saints pic.twitter.com/lAbmiQWuq1 — Philadelphia Eagles (@Eagles) April 20, 2022

The Trade Terms

The New Orleans Saints received

  • 2022 NFL Draft, pick 16
  • 2022 NFL Draft, pick 19

The Philadelphia Eagles received

  • 2022 NFL Draft, pick 18
  • 2022 NFL Draft, third-round pick No. 101
  • 2022 NFL Draft, seventh-round pick No. 237
  • A 2023 first-round pick (No. 10)
  • A 2024 second-round pick (No. 50)

What the Eagles did with their picks

A.J. Brown Roseman’s blockbuster trade with New Orleans led to a blockbuster trade with the Tennessee Titans, who sent wide receiver A.J. Brown to Philly for the acquired No. 18 and No. 101 picks. Brown ranks 9th in the NFL in receptions, 3rd in receiving yards, and 6th in receiving touchdowns since joining the Eagles. Brown just agreed to a three-year, $96 million extension that will put him under contract through 2029 .

The Titans, incidentally, used the No. 18 pick to select Treylon Burks as their Brown replacement. Burks does not yet have 50 career catches.

Kyren Johnson The Eagles traded their sixth-round pick and the Saints’ seventh-rounder to the Detroit Lions to move up seven spots to No. 181. Kansas linebacker Kyren Johnson was limited almost exclusively to special teams as a rookie and was released in the middle of 2023. Johnson is currently with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Jalen Carter New Orleans’ 7-10 season gave the then-NFC champion Eagles the No. 10 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Philadelphia swapped No. 10 and No. 9 with the Chicago Bears (giving up a 2024 fourth-round pick in the process) to take ex-Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter. One of the few bright spots on an incredibly disappointing Eagles defense, Carter finished second in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting behind Will Anderson Jr.

Cooper DeJean The Eagles used the Saints’ second-rounder (number 50), their native second-round pick (No. 53), and a fifth-rounder to move up to No. 40 overall for Iowa cornerback Cooper DeJean. He was one of several projected first-round defenders who slid down in the draft order after a historic run on offensive players . Considered the most versatile defensive back in this year’s class with the potential to convert to safety, DeJean will be part of a revamped Philadelphia secondary that already includes 2024 first-round cornerback Quinyon Mitchell. DeJean could also be a factor on special teams as a punt returner.

What the Saints did with their picks

Chris Olave New Orleans used the higher Eagles first-rounder (along with third- and fourth-round selections) to move up to No. 11 in the draft in a trade with the Washington Commanders. Former Ohio State star receiver Chris Olave has been as good as advertised, catching 159 passes for 2,165 yards and 9 touchdowns. Only ex-Buckeyes teammate Garrett Wilson has more receptions among 2022 draftees, while Olave is tops in his class in yards and first downs gained.

Trevor Penning The Saints kept the Eagles’ other first-round pick (19 overall) and selected Northern Iowa tackle Trevor Penning, who hasn’t panned out as the would-be successor to Terron Armstead. He only played one game as a rookie after tearing a ligament in his foot, spent much of the 2023 offseason rehabilitating a Lisfranc fracture, and was benched for poor performance in his second season . Penning is trending dangerously close to “bust” status.

At the time, former Eagles president Joe Banner believed that Philadelphia won the trade in a landslide .

“One of the most lopsided trades we have seen in a long time,” tweeted Banner. “The 1,2 & 3 saints gave up for 16 was enough that they could’ve used it to trade for almost any nfl star player not a QB and had picks left over. Instead they got a mid first round pick. Crazy.”

When using the trade value chart modeled by Pats Pulpit’s Rich Hill , it looked like an even trade.

Per Rich Hill trade chart... #Saints get: 588 points ~1.16 (305), 1.19 (278), 6.194 (5)~ #Eagles get: 595 points ~1.18 (287), 3.101 (36), 7.237 (2), 2023 R1 (200), 2024 R2 (70)~ Good trade, objectively even trade, fascinating trade https://t.co/3kizOc7JfK — Thor Nystrom (@thorku) April 4, 2022

Of course, the picks are only half the story. Now that all of the picks have been made, we have a clear picture on how both teams have fared. In a few years when the young players’ careers have been more fully established, we can look back with an even keener eye.

2024 NFL Draft trade tracker: Live updates, grades, analysis, draft order changes, Round 4-7 picks by team

Follow every 2024 nfl draft trade live with results, analysis and grades.

If Saturday is anything like the first two days of the 2024 NFL Draft, fans will certainly be in for a treat. A whopping 16 trades were made during the draft's first three rounds, with many more expected to take place during Rounds 4-7.

Despite various reports, there were no immediate trades during Day 1 of the draft. There was one trade that involved a top-10 pick, and that was the Vikings moving up one spot to select quarterback J.J. McCarthy. Minnesota then traded up six spots to select Dallas Turner, who was arguably the best pass rusher prospect in this year's draft.

Lions fans who were still in the crowd in Detroit roared when their team traded up with the Cowboys to select Alabama cornerback Terrion Arnold with the 24th pick. Despite trading back, Dallas was still able to draft Tyler Guyton, one of the draft's top-ranked offensive tackles.

Not long after that, the Chiefs decided to move up four spots (taking the Bills' first-round pick) to select speedster Xavier Worthy, who ran an NFL Scouting Combine record 4.21 second 40-yard dash. Buffalo then traded picks again, swapping picks with the Panthers, who used the 32nd overall pick to draft former South Carolina WR Xavier Legette. The Bills used that pick to select Florida State WR Keon Coleman with the first pick in the second round.

Night 2 of the draft included 11 trades, with seven taking place in the second round alone. Three of the biggest first-round snubs -- wideout Ladd McConkey and cornerbacks Cooper DeJean and Kool-Aid McKinstry -- were selected in the second round after their respective teams traded up to acquire them. McConkey was selected by the Chargers with the 34th pick, while DeJean and McKinstry were taken by Eagles and Saints, respectively, in consecutive picks early in the second round.

We've got one day to go, but if Saturday is anything like the previous two days, trades will be flying like hotcakes. In order to keep up, check out our live blog below, where we'll continue to keep tabs on every trade that goes down during each round.

Jets trade up for QB

  • Jets receive:  171st overall pick
  • Eagles receive:  185th overall pick and 190th overall pick

The Jets have invested in getting QB depth behind Aaron Rodgers, and they traded up to do so. New York moved up 14 spots to take Florida State signal-caller Jordan Travis.

Packers trade up with Bills

Eagles Sign A.J. Brown to Record-Setting Contract Extension, per Report

  • Author: Karl Rasmussen

In this story:

The Philadelphia Eagles have rewarded star wide receiver A.J. Brown with a record-setting new contract extension that will keep him with the organization through the 2029 NFL season, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported Thursday.

The 27-year-old will earn $96 million as part of his new three-year extension with $84 million guaranteed.

Brown's previous contract, a four-year, $100 million deal he signed in 2022, was set to run through the '26 season, but the Eagles managed to lock up the star wideout well beyond that with his new extension.

Sources: The #Eagles and star WR AJ Brown agreed to terms on a new 3-year extension for $96M, the highest for any WR in NFL history. He’s now under contract thru 2029 & his total guarantee of $84M is also the highest. The deal, his third at 27, was done by Tory Dandy of CAA. pic.twitter.com/F7BCT7EqTI — Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) April 25, 2024

Brown has emerged as the favorite target of quarterback Jalen Hurts ever since Philadelphia acquired the receiver via a draft day trade with the Tennessee Titans in 2022.

Last season, Brown made his third Pro Bowl appearance and racked up a career-high 106 receptions on 158 targets while tallying 1,456 yards and seven touchdowns. Since being acquired by the Eagles, Brown has totaled 194 receptions, 2,952 receiving yards and 18 receiving touchdowns across two seasons.

Brown is the second wide receiver to get a new deal in Philadelphia this offseason, as DeVonta Smith signed a three-year extension earlier in April.

Best available players for Eagles in NFL Draft: Brenden Rice, Christian Mahogany

The Athletic has live coverage of NFL Draft Rounds 4-7 . Follow along with our picks tracker , best available and The Beast .

It’s hard to imagine the first day of the NFL Draft going any better for the Philadelphia Eagles. General manager Howie Roseman explored trade possibilities earlier in the week to move up in his front office’s hunt for a cornerback. Turns out, Roseman didn’t need to pick up the phone at all. Two of the top cornerbacks fell to No. 22 overall, and the Eagles chose Toledo’s Quinyon Mitchell, the No. 11 overall player in the draft, according to The Athletic’s Dane Brugler .

Roseman and the Eagles then aggressively traded up in the second round to take Iowa’s Cooper DeJean , a versatile defensive back who is also productive as a return man. Philadelphia has addressed arguably its biggest weakness from last season by selecting two defensive backs with its first two picks.

Cooper DeJean joins Quinyon Mitchell as new Eagles DBs hoping to shore up secondary

The Eagles, who were busy making trades on Day 2, also took edge rusher Jalyx Hunt out of Houston Christian in the third round.

They still must address their vacancy at right guard and could bolster their depth in spots like linebacker and wide receiver. The Eagles currently hold seven selections entering the final day of the draft. With that in mind, here’s a look at some players who could interest Philadelphia once things resume on Saturday.

(The Eagles have three picks in the fourth round at Nos. 120, 123 and 132; three picks in the fifth round at Nos. 152, 171 and 172; one pick in the sixth round at No. 210 and no picks in the seventh round)

Ja’Tavion Sanders, TE, Texas:  The Eagles don’t have many proven options behind starting tight end  Dallas Goedert , and offensive coordinator Kellen Moore frequently deploys 12 personnel packages. Sanders lacks reliability as an in-line blocker, but his upside as a dynamic receiving threat (he had 12 catches of 20-plus yards in 2023) makes him an intriguing prospect.

Brenden Rice, WR, USC:  The son of NFL Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice, the 6-2, 208-pound Brenden Rice caught 12 touchdown passes in his final season with the Trojans. Like his father, Rice is an efficient and skillful route runner, but he’ll need to improve his ability to separate from defenders.

Christian Mahogany, G, Boston College:  The 6-3, 314-pound lineman missed the 2022 season after tearing his right ACL while at home in the offseason. He thrived in a gap-scheme run system, and, per Brugler, “plays like a bouncer outside of a club, looking to bash heads with power and forceful hands.”

Eagles NFL Draft picks 2024: Grades, fits and scouting reports

Xavier Thomas, Edge, Clemson:  After battling injuries, COVID-19 and setbacks across six seasons, Thomas only managed to total 18 sacks in his career at Clemson. He’s another slender pass rusher (6-2, 244 pounds) who wins on speed and explosivity, but he’ll need to develop as a defender who can create separation once engaged with blockers.

Johnny Wilson, WR, Florida State:  An Arizona State transfer, Wilson at last capitalized on a 6-6, 231-pound frame that helped him log 1,514 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in his final two seasons at Florida State. Brugler: “He doesn’t always play up to his frame and currently lacks consistent focus and route precision for what the NFL requires.”

Gottlieb Ayedze, G, Maryland:  Ayedze, a transfer from Division II Frostburg State, draws comparisons to the Australian-born, rugby-playing Mailata. Ayedze was born in the United States before relocating with his parents to Togo when he was 5. When he was 15, he returned to live with his uncle in Maryland. Ayedze first began playing football as a senior in high school.

Ainias Smith, WR, Texas A&M:  A five-year starter for the Aggies, Smith lined up on the outside, in the slot and in the backfield in offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino’s scheme. He led the team in receiving as a fifth-year senior and showed promise as a special teams asset with an 82-yard punt return touchdown.

Travis Glover Jr., OT, Georgia State:  Glover offers versatility having played 35 games at left tackle, 18 at right tackle and four at left guard. Brugler: “Glover isn’t an explosive athlete, and achieving leverage will be a constant battle for him, but he also isn’t a slug and looks for ways to unleash his power in all areas. Given his experience at both tackle and guard, he can provide depth at multiple spots on a team’s depth chart.”
