Club Junkie Review: Graphite Design Tour AD VF wood shaft
Graphite Design has been a legendary brand in the world of premium golf shafts since the company was founded in 1989. Graphite Design has had some popular shafts over the years, but they are probably most well known for the Tour AD DI that was released in 2010. Today we are talking about the newest shaft in the Graphite Design lineup, the new VF. The letters do stand for something, Victory Force, and according to Graphite Design every victory requires force! For a more in-depth review, please check out the Club Junkie podcast below or on any streaming platform. Just search “GolfWRX Radio.”
Out of the box, the VF has a very familiar look with a red handle section and a black tip section that are separated with the traditional 10 silver rings. The color combination is definitely more subtle than some of the other Tour AD shaft combinations. Graphite Design doesn’t make too many low-launching shafts, so the VF is filling that need. The VF will suit players looking for low/,id launch and low spin shaft to put in their driver or fairway wood.
The shaft profile is a firm+ handle section, it matches the stiffest handles Graphite Design shafts, with a stiff midsection, and finally a very stiff tip. Exotic materials are used along with MSI Design to maintain stability and consistency. Graphite Design uses Torayca M40X carbon fiber in the handle section to make it stiffer and enhance control of the shaft. Ultra-high modulus Torayca T1100G is used in the middle and tip section for added stability without losing that smooth feel.
I built up the VF shaft using a universal tip system that allows me to use the shaft in any driver head. The building went extremely smoothly as every Graphite Design shaft I have ever installed has a consistent tip diameter and I have never had any issues with a sloppy fit. Once the VF was cut to length and installed, the shaft has a great look that doesn’t jump out as distracting or eye-catching. If you are playing a TaylorMade Stealth 2, then the shaft blends in naturally and they look to visually be great partners!
You would expect a smooth and responsive feel from any Graphite Design shaft and you will get just that with the VF. For me the shaft was exactly as Graphite Design describes, being mid/low launch and offering a very penetrating ball flight. The Tour AD XC might launch a touch lower, but I like the feel and consistency I get from the VF just a little bit more. No matter what driver head I used, the VF seemed to offer ball flight in a similar window, slightly lower than the Fujikura Ventus TR Blue I was using. Even shots into the wind showed no real signs of rising or ballooning. Spin was also lower than I expected with the VF shaft. On the course, I noticed a penetrating, boring flight no matter where I hit the ball on the driver face. Shots struck low on the face held a good amount of distance and even the low heel strike seemed to launch lower and carry further.
I even took a couple of driver heads out to the range with a launch monitor and noticed that I rarely saw a spin number with a “3” in front of it. Almost every shot, good and not so good, seemed to spin around that 2,600 RPM number. With many fittings and shaft tinkering, that is usually on the lower end of what I find with my swing. As I said with the shaft being mid/low launch I was seeing an average of around 11 degrees while using a couple of 10.5-degree driver heads. On course, the VF was very straight and consistent and while it seemed easier to square up than I expected, it did not want to go left as easily as some other shafts. I would consider the flight just slightly fade biased but if you release the club properly you will be rewarded with a straight shot down the fairway.
Overall, the Graphite Design Tour AD VF is a really solid mid/low launch and low spin option with a smooth feel. It is starting to gain some traction on the professional tours and could be a great shaft for your swing as well.

You mentioned the Tour AD GP was one of your favorite Graphite Design shafts (same here). How did the VF compare to it? Do you think it’s the GP replacement essentially?

To me the VF launches just a little lower and definitely spins less. I also find that I have a little less draw, more straight, ball flight with the VF.

Why rory mcilroy will likely use the new taylormade brnr mini driver copper at the rbc heritage.
Although we spotted Rory McIlroy testing the new TaylorMade BRNR Mini Driver Copper last week during practice rounds at the Masters, he ultimately didn’t decide to use the club in competition.
It seems that will change this week at the 2024 RBC Heritage, played at the short-and-tight Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head.
When asked on Wednesday following his morning Pro-Am if he’d be using the new, nostalgic BRNR Copper this week, McIlroy said, “I think so.”
“I like it,” McIlroy told GolfWRX.com on Tuesday regarding the BRNR. “This would be a good week for it.”
View this post on Instagram A post shared by GolfWRX (@golfwrx)
According to Adrian Rietveld, the Senior Manager of Tour at TaylorMade, the BRNR Mini Driver can help McIlroy position himself properly off the tee at the tight layout.
Here’s what Rietveld told GolfWRX.com on Wednesday:
“For someone like Rory, who’s that long at the top end of the bag, and then you put him on a course like Harbour Town, it’s tough off the tee. It’s tight into the greens, and you have to put yourself in position off the tee to have a shot into the green. It kind of reminds me of Valderrama in Spain, where you can be in the fairway and have no shot into the green.
“I’m caddying for Tommy [Fleetwood] this week, so I was walking the course last night and looking at a few things. There’s just such a small margin for error. You can be standing in the fairway at 300 yards and have a shot, but at 320 you don’t. So if you don’t hit a perfect shot, you could be stuck behind a tree. And then if you’re back at 280, it might be a really tough shot into the small greens.
“So for Rory [with the BRNR], it’s a nice course-specific golf club for him. He’s got both shots with it; he can move it right-to-left or left-to-right. And the main thing about this club has been the accuracy and the dispersion with it. I mean, it’s been amazing for Tommy.
“This was the first event Tommy used a BRNR last year, and I remember talking to him about it, and he said he couldn’t wait to play it at Augusta next year. And he just never took it out of the bag because he’s so comfortable with it, and hitting it off the deck.
“So you look at Rory, and you want to have the tools working to your advantage out here, and the driver could hand-cuff him a bit with all of the shots you’d have to manufacture.”
So, although McIlroy might not be making a permanent switch into the new TaylorMade BRNR Mini Driver Copper, he’s likely to switch into it this week.
His version is lofted at 13.5 degrees, and equipped with a Fujikura Ventus Black 7X shaft.

Spotted: TaylorMade P-UDI driving iron
It seems like the RBC Heritage is full of new gear to be spotted, and you can add TaylorMade’s P-UDI utility irons to that list.
We spotted a 17-degree P-UDI 2-iron in Nick Dunlap’s bag yesterday, and now have some photos of both the 3- and 4-irons. Nick has his P-UDI 2-iron setup with a Project X HZRDUS Black 4th Gen 105g TX shaft.
From what we can tell, this new P-UDI utility iron looks to have some of the usual TaylorMade technology as we can see the Speed Slot on the sole of the club for additional face flexibility. A toe screw is usually used to close off the hollow body design that will probably be filled with a version of TaylorMade’s Speed Foam that is present in the current iron lineup. This hollow body, foam-filled design should offer additional ball speed, soft feel, and sound, as well as an optimized CG for ball flight.
“Forged” is etched into the hosel, so we can assume that either the face, body, or both are forged for a soft and responsive feel. The club looks good from behind and at address, where we can see just a little offset and a topline that I would consider medium thickness. We don’t have the full details on what is under the hood or how many loft options will be available yet.

I just got fitted for a 910 F 17 degree and ended up getting the 'ilima in a stiff flex. This was the last shaft I would have picked for myself just based on ego and looks (the ahina looks sexier.. haha) But I couldn't argue with the launch monitor and ball flight. You can check out my post in the equipment section. I just posted. Went for a hybrid, left with a FW, the 910 F is awesome!

Tour AD DI Hybrid Shaft Review – Specs, Flex, Weight
The Tour AD DI Hybrid shaft boasts some of the same technologies as shafts produced by more well-known brands.
It has a lot to offer…for the right kind of player. Are you a good fit for this hybrid graphite/carbon fiber shaft?
Find out as I tell you about my experience testing the Tour AD DI.
Tour AD DI Shaft Overview
I have tested one or two Tour AD shafts in the past and the Tour AD DI Hybrid has the same visual effect as the others.
To put it frankly, the Tour AD DI Hybrid looks very busy. It has a metallic white/orange color scheme but it’s the labeling that really stands out.
The brand name, model name, flex and weight indications are all in different fonts which gives the shaft a rather hectic look.
But I loved the feel of this shaft so much that I was easily able to overlook its rather noisy look.
The Tour AD DI has a progressively stiff bend profile: it’s stiff in the tip, a bit lighter in the midsection and soft in the butt.
This creates a very smooth transition even when you really load up on it. I particularly loved the stiff tip section because it allowed for accuracy that you don’t often get in such an active shaft.
The Tour AD DI Hybrid comes in four weight classes: 75g, 85g, 95g and 105g.
The range of weights makes this shaft a good option for players of all skill levels. After all, who couldn’t benefit from superb smoothness and accuracy akin to much stiffer shafts?
Why is the Tour AD DI So Popular?
The Tour AD DI feels fast even if you don’t swing fast.
It feels fluid through transition and through the ball so you don’t waste a drop of swing speed energy.
And my numbers were the proof. During testing, my smash factor stayed between the 1.3 and 1.4 range.
So I would reckon that part of what makes this shaft so popular is its uncanny ability to transfer swing energy into the ball
How Does the Tour AD DI Hybrid Perform?
I tested the Tour AD DI Hybrid 85g in stiff flex.
The first thing I do when testing any shaft is bend it between both hands. Surprisingly, this gives me a good idea of how it’s going to perform.
The Tour AD DI Hybrid didn’t bend so easily under the force of my hands so I thought, at first, that it would play a bit stiff and boardy.
Well, it might be time to re-think my hand bend practice because it did not indicate the performance of this shaft.
The Tour AD DI Hybrid, even in stiff flex felt remarkably smooth but gave the accuracy of a stiff shaft.
I plugged the Tour AD DI into my 4-hybrid and my spin rates stayed in the 3500 and 400 RPM spin range. This allowed me to thread the needle on narrow fairways and deftly avoid hazards.
The torque was perfect for me but you can get less or more torque just by choosing a higher or lower weight class.
So we know that the Tour AD DI offers great club head speed (smash factor), keeps spin low and allows for straight flight.
Now let’s talk about distance. My average carry with the Tour AD DI was 164.5 yards. The rollout was pronounced due to the low spin so my average total distance was 180.9 yards.
Tour AD DI Hybrid Shaft Specs
What flexes are available what swing speeds do they suit.
Regular is a good flex for 70-80 MPH swingers.
Stiff is good for about 81-95 MPH swingers and extra stiff for 96-105 MPH swingers.
What Weights Are Available? What Swing Speeds Do They Suit?
The 75g and 85g weights should cover players in the 70-90 MPH swing speed range while the 95g and 105g weights would work for players in the 91-105 MPH swing speed range.
Why is it So Good?
The Tour AD DI Hybrid is a good shaft because it combines distance with accuracy.
It feels fluid and pliable which also helps when you need to finagle the shaft in order to dig the ball out of the rough.
Tour AD DI Hybrid First Impressions
At first, I thought the Tour AD DI would be too boardy in stiff flex.
But that was not the case at all. The Tour AD DI ended up being exceptionally fast without sending the ball spinning off-line.
Key Features & Performance
The Tour AD DI features a carbon/graphite design that allows for incredible stability in a lightweight package.
The tip has been stiffened to offer better club head control at impact as well.
Tour AD DI Hybrid Review
I tested this shaft with my 4H but I actually think it would work better in a 3H when you need that extra distance. It offers a nice, mid launch that can easily be worked a bit higher.
Tour AD DI Hybrid Pros & Cons
- Great smash factor
- Smooth transition
- Offers straight flight
- Great distance
- Workable in the rough
- Stopping power isn’t great
- Busy graphics and lettering
Overall Score: 97/100
Check out more reviews here:.
Who Should Buy it?
To be honest, I might have given this shaft a perfect score if not for the lack of stopping power.
This isn’t the shaft you want to plug into your hybrids if you’re attacking a lot of greens with them.
But for the rest of us mortals, the Tour AD DI Hybrid is fantastic for garnering extra distance.
This is more-or-less a point-and-shoot shaft as well so it will help anyone who is struggling with accuracy.
Plus, it comes in a wide variety of weights and flexes so it is viable for many different swing speeds.

Graphite Designs Tour AD TP Shaft Review
More in reviews:.
50 Words or Less
The Graphite Designs Tour AD TP shaft is a high performance shaft that’s a little more stout than the AD DI. Great for the big hitter who still wants some feel in the shaft.
Introduction
It’s often said that it’s not hard to have a hit; the hard part is backing it up with a second hit. Graphite Designs had one of the most successful shafts of the last few years with their Tour AD DI , but none of their subsequent offerings have created the same buzz. The Tour AD TP, which has a profile similar to the AD DI, should be the follow up smash that we’ve been waiting for.
Graphite Designs stuck to recipe of low key graphics with the Tour AD TP. The branding, though slightly bolder than past efforts, is minimal, and the color scheme – black, white, and grey – won’t turn heads. If you want an all-business look without any distractions, the AD TP is for you.
As I’ve mentioned before, one of my favorite things that Graphite Designs does is explain the feel of each of their shafts on a chart on their website. They use a simple scale – Very Stiff to Soft – and rate the butt, mid, and tip of each shaft.
The AD TP is rated as tip stiff with a firm butt and mid . The butt and mid are both one notch stiffer than the AD DI, and this is a perfect description of how the shaft feels. Where the AD DI has a pronounced kick, the action in the AD TP is more subtle .
Performance
The new technology used in the AD TP is Graphite Designs’s “Fast Taper Technology” or FTT. This design makes the shaft taper faster through the lower mid section to the tip. Its purpose is to give the player greater club head control at impact .
For me, the AD TP was a very consistent performer, just like the AD DI. The stiffer mid and butt sections did translate to some noticeable ball flight differences. Where the AD DI kicked more and produced more draws, the AD TP was more solid and produced straighter shots . I felt like I had to work a little more if I wanted to produce a draw, but I could also swing hard without fearing a hook .
The Graphite Designs AD TP is available in 40, 50, 60, 70, and 80 grams and flexes ranging from R2 (senior) to X.
If you loved the AD DI but longed for something a little stiffer, your prayers have been answered. The Graphite Designs AD TP has a similar feel, but with a little extra muscle to stand up to those aggressive swings.

I have the TP-7 X flex in my Callaway Epic Sub Zero and the TP-8 X flex in my Callaway Sub Zero 3W and they are amazing shafts. Great feel and consistency! I highly recommend them. Also the Callaway Epic line is amazing….
I have the Tour AD TP-6 S Flex in my 2017 TaylorMade M1 driver. I tested a heap of shafts on the launch monitor: Fujikura Pro, Speeder Motore, Kurokage, Hzrdus – the AD TP-6 delivered the best numbers out of them all; in fact they were very similar to yours. It’s a superb shaft. I also have a Graphite Design AD DI-7 S flex in my TM 3-wood; it is similarly superb.
Hi Matt, thank you for your review. I have been following your website for a long time now, but never got around to posting a comment.
I am currently gaming a Tour AD DI 6X. I love the shaft, but I feel I may be losing some distance with the stiffer profile. Would you say the TP 6S would be similar to the DI & 6X considering the TP is somewhat stouter? Also, I’d really appreciate if you could do a review of the Oban Kiyoshi Gold. I’m also considering that as a replacement. I am looking for a high launch shaft, as my spin numbers tend to be low with standard drivers (non-LST versions).
I understand that fitting would be absolutely necessary, but unfortunately, I live in a country that does not have fitting facilities. It is a handicap for us avid golfers here, but it is what it is.
Looking forward to your reply. Thank you.
I think you’re on the right track in going “down” a flex with the TP vs the DI. I would be happy to review the Oban Kiyoshi Gold, but we have not had much success working with Oban. If you can let Oban know through social media that you value our reviews, that tends to help things move forward.
I currently play a 90g tensei ck pro white stiff flex in my titleist 3 hybrid. I am seeking a shaft that will provide better dispersion. I have found that even in the fade setting and fade weighting that there tends to be a draw bias when I attempt to put a stronger swing on the ball. Seeking your advice in respect to a shaft that will help to accomplish this. I have been leaning towards the GD AD-IZ until i read the post about the AD-TP. Thank you.
In terms of fitting by numbers, I would suggest that you play the stiffest shaft available, particularly in the tip. In reality, I would suggest going to get fit to find out what combination of profile and weight helps you to stop hooking the ball.
Hi Matt, Firstly, well done on your website / reviews / feedback, this is a good resource for avid golfers. I am in the process of deciding between Ventus and Tour AD shafts for D & FW. Unfortunately where I live I don’t have access to somewhere I can test all shafts but I have read a lot and have a fair idea about what might suit me. I currently use a UST Attas 6X driver shaft, probably about 105mph ss. I am leaning toward TourAD TP and VR. Have you had any experience with using TourAD (or Ventus red & blue) in driver and fairway? If so what factors do you consider when choosing which is more suitable for driver and fairway?
I’ve tested several Tour AD shafts and the Ventus Blue in a driver. You can find all the reviews on the site. I’m not sure how to answer your question outside of suggesting that you get fit. Because I don’t recommend that people buy equipment they haven’t tried, I don’t have criteria for that process. I hope that doesn’t come across as rude or unhelpful, that’s not my intent, I just strongly believe in the value of fitting.
I currently have the 6sDI in my tsi2 3w and love it. unbelievably good feel. I just did a round with the new UB 6s in my epic speed and it just felt a little too tip stiff. Do you find that this TP model might be closer to the feel of the DI I love, with just a shade less kick? Unfortunately I don’t have much in my area to demo so I have to work with what I can get my hands on….and that’s about it.
“The AD TP is rated as tip stiff with a firm butt and mid. The butt and mid are both one notch stiffer than the AD DI, and this is a perfect description of how the shaft feels. Where the AD DI has a pronounced kick, the action in the AD TP is more subtle.”
In your opinion, would the DI 6TX vs the TP 6X play similar given that the DI would be playing a stiffer profile?
On paper? Yes, I think they could be viewed as similar. In reality? Depends on the golfer.
Hi, I’m having DJ 7X on my 3 wood for 10years. Wanting to move to stiff shaft 60 grams. What would you recommend?
My recommendation is always to get fit. No one can make a credible recommendation over the internet.
Hi Matt I was wondering if the AD 5S would be similar to the Di 6S in stiffness but with less weight Let me know what you think Thanks Steve
That might work, but it’s always a matter of fit. Dropping those 10 grams might mean that this profile doesn’t perform as well for you anymore.

Golf Powers
- F-55 R2/59g R1/59g S/60g トルク 5.0
- F-65 SR/68g S/68g X/70g トルク 3.3

The Tour AD F-Series uses 40-ton carbon fiber, however, instead of the 50-ton that's used in the Tour AD TP shafts. According to Bill McPherson, VP of Sales at Pro Choice Golf Shafts, the different material results in slightly higher torque, which is necessary to help golfers create optimal height when hitting fairway woods from the turf, and ...

Graphite Design has been a legendary brand in the world of premium golf shafts since the company was founded in 1989. Graphite Design has had some popular shafts over the years, but they are probably most well known for the Tour AD DI that was released in 2010. Today we are talking about the newest shaft in the Graphite Design lineup, the new VF.
titleist 910going to be ordering 2 910 fairway woods and can't decide between the di 8 or the titleist ilima 71. Most fairway woods I struggle to hit high enough so I'm leaning towards the ilima but the di keeps calling my name. How does the di play in fw woods?

The Tour AD TP, which has a profile similar to the AD DI, should be the follow up smash that we've been waiting for. Looks. Graphite Designs stuck to recipe of low key graphics with the Tour AD TP.
